Speaker 1 (00:00):
Us. Welcome to what matters, Mindy and Mikayla here with
you this Sunday afternoon. But my partner in crime is
the one who's on the road, or maybe I should
say on the beach.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Have you been tired of saying that so much? Mikayla,
My partner in crime is on the road again. But
I can promise this is my last Sunday on the
road for the rest of the year.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
The rest of the year, Mindy, that's a big deal, don't.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I don't have plans to do anything else. But you know,
as you know, we take a family vacation with Randy's
side of the family.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Every single year.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Nine out of ten times, eight out of ten times
is to the Myrtle Beach area, or it's out to
Colorado to kind of retrace mister and missus Quardacras's legacy,
you know, which really started out there. She was from
the Kansas area, and even though mister k just passed
away a few weeks ago, you know, this was his
tree to everybody. He would always buy a big vacation
(00:56):
house every year, or not buy it but rent it out.
He would buy it for the week and you would
take care of all the food, all the drinks, everything.
He just wanted his family to all be together. So
it's kind of his treaties here to do that. Well,
everything was already bought and paid for. And it's kind
of hard because he's not here, but we still celebrate
his life and you still celebrate his legacy.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
And I think that's so.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Important when you know that head of the family leaves,
or if any family member leaves, that you still do
carry on traditions.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
I love that he.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Made sure that you all would still go on this
trip this summer. I did not know that until you
just said it. That is so meaningful.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Well, it was paid for a while ago. You have
to book these houses, if not a year before, at
least six months to a year. The plan was to
have him with us for one final vacation with everybody.
And you know that was really the goal, you know,
and it looked realistic up until just the baby a
month or a month or two ago.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well, I am so glad you are gathering. How many?
How many are there? How many here at myrtle?
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Do you say that with a laugh, because you know
the deal we're got. You know, any time within the
week people come and go right, but within the week
there'll be any when between fifty to sixty people. For example,
I'm in I think bedroom number twenty three making this
phone call. We're Brandy and I are saying in bedroom
number twenty one, are.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
You in out hotown?
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I mean, did you guys run out of a hotel at that?
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, you would think so.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
But when you have this large family, I mean you
got to remember when mister k passed, he had twenty
nine grandkids, nineteen great grandkids. So this house is huge,
and it's it's it's a street off the beach, and
it's been cloudy and rainy. There was a big tropical
storm that came through last night and when we got here.
(02:50):
The day before we got here, a twenty one year
old band drowned because the rip tide, the rip current
is so strong right now.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
And then I did a little.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Research for Kayla, like thirty six people have died in
riptides this summer.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I'm I don't mean right here, yeah, I mean, you
don't mess around with fast moving water, as we've seen
tragically this weekend and throughout the summer. To your point
and all these riptide stories, if it's moving fast, if
there's something odd about it.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Don't get in it, period.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
And you can't tell. I mean, even if you have
the best swimmer.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
So of course Kylon and Cameron and Kylin brought his
girlfriend Kirsten and Randy. They're all out in the waves
today and I'm thinking of what I just researched. And
I'm thinking of that poor young man. I think of
his family. No, you're down here on a vacation. He
was with a nineteen year old.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
But he went out at night.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
It was like eight thirty at night.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Yeah, and even if you're the best.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Swimmer, you can't see what's below you.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
And I'm just thinking of that the whole time. I might.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Please don't go out too far. Please don't go out
too far, because you just never know.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Well, while you are over in myrtle, what would I
call it, It's not a stake. If I call a
stay anniversary a stanniversary, does that work?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
I think it works and you've deserved it.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Are you talking about your twenty year?
Speaker 1 (04:10):
We finally got to celebrate over the weekend, you know,
we had it was in the middle of the week
last week, so we just did an overnight downtown and
we had so much fun.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Mindy. We went to the Juneto.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I've been wanting to stay there overnight. We've talked about
the Junior.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I know, yes, I know you have. So what was
it like.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
We hung out like the hipsters we want to be
reading books and having cocktails. And they call it I
can't remember the official name of it, but it's their lobby,
but it's more like a lounge for the community.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Really.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
We rode scooters around downtown. The not the scooters that
you think of that came to town first, but the
ones that are more like bikes.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Do you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I don't really know what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
You write them like a bike, and they almost are
like a vespa, like the little scooters that I've tried
before but haven't worked out.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Oh, I know what you're talking about, because when I
see kids on them, I get angry. I'm like, get
off that and ride a bike. Exercise, dude.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
So we rode those around downtown, around the Supreme Court,
around the Federal Courthouse. And you know, it was two
days after boom, right, so it was a little well,
it smelled a little interesting down there still, but it
was a beautiful evening. The sun was setting. We were
up at the Brass Eye on top of the June
(05:34):
Toe for a cocktail. After that, we had a late dinner.
We just really enjoyed it, and we played scrabble this morning.
They have these really cool I don't know what you
would call them. It's almost like a couch, but it's
built into a window. Marcus was calling them nooks. And yeah,
our window looked right out to Dorian Green and Kosai
(05:56):
like the hotel room window right out to it. It's
just such a beautiful hotel and just I don't know,
there's something about it.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
It's one of my favorite spots in Columbus.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
I'm so glad that you got to do that.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
What a great way to celebrate twenty years of marriage.
I don't know if enough people do that, you know,
take advantage of what Ohio offers. You know, we are
going to talk to Maut McLaren later coming up talking
about the best places in the state of Ohio that
you can actually bring your dogs to. But what you
do in Marcus, you explored not just the whole state
(06:31):
of Ohio, but you stay so close to home because
there's so much to offer.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
And then when you tell.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Our listeners about it. Then they're like, oh, I need to.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Do that too, check out.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
So we didn't talk about things that people don't know about.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
There are dogs at the Juneto. People bring their dogs
with them to stay, No, they Yeah, I saw some
of the cutest dogs French bulldog coming in and out
last night.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
So it was really appropriate that we were.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Going to have Matt on today because I think they
might be on the dog friendly location list.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
So did that make you miss your dogs?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Like, No, I'm kind of glad I got a break
from him.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
You know, you like a break.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Then they're the ones that are actually like sweet to
you in the house when you have teenagers in the house.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So I kind of missed it. I kind of missed them.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
But we got home this afternoon, and yeah, I was
looking forward to talking to you, And I know you
and I both have had a lot going on this
week and have a lot coming up on the show too.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
And how about you.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
You got to experience Red, White and Boom at one
of the best views in the whole darn city.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Joe Schmidtz peak retirement planning what And he just has
such a solid group of people that he surrounds himself
with yeah, and I'm so fortunate that you introduced Joe.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
And I and Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
We went to it was the thirteenth floor of the
building that's right there on Neil in Spring where he lives,
and it was just, uh, it was such a cool
sight of Red white and Boom. A lot different than
work in Red White Boom, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Oh for sure. But we watched fireworks on the fourth
on the beach here in North Myrtle Beach, and the
whole time I'm watching it, I'm thinking, this is nothing
like Red White and Boom. I mean, it's cool to
see fireworks on the beach, but really, Columbus and Earlberg
but on such a show, and the Columbus would be
so proud of Red White and Boom. But I will
say this, Yeah, this year, all the way around North Beach,
(08:26):
I don't care if you're driving through the streets, if
you're going to stores, if you're on the beach, like
earlier in the day we were laying out trying to
get the sun. There is so much American pride right
now here in North Myrtle Beach. I don't know the
part because I'm not there there's red, white and blue everywhere.
I mean, beach blankets, beach chairs, just seeing flags there
(08:49):
that are hanging everywhere. One guy was flying a big
old kite and on the middle of this kite is
a big old picture of President trumpet It says, I'm back.
I mean, it was just so much patriotism. It was
great to see so no, the fireworks weren't that great,
but to see so much country pride drought down here,
so much red, white and blue. You couldn't escape at Mikayla,
(09:10):
it was beautiful.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I love it. I really enjoy the Fourth of July too.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
You know, I'm someone who's always celebrated it. I basically
got married on fourth of July weekend. There is something
about celebrating our freedom. Did I really really enjoy And
it sounds like you did it in style and myrtle,
in your own way, and we did it here and
you can't ask for more.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
When you guys were planning your wedding, did you specifically
mean to do that? Like did you have red white
and blue napkins? And were the bridesmaids dresses in red,
white and blue? Are you just pick that weekend to.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
The weekend I think it was something.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
You know, it was funny because it was the start
of sweeps and that used to be a.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Big deal in TV news. Oh yes, as big now.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
But we picked it because it was the one available
weekend and I think that summer that worked for us
and wasn't too deep into July. And so we had
blue bride'smaid's dresses and I had hydrangeas, both very July things,
but we didn't.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
The only Fourth of July bit we did since it
was July.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Second was firecrackers, which I think I told you that
story with the sparks after we left, so that but I.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Was able to do that because it was the fourth
of July. So yeah, yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
That's kind of the story behind it. I love that
we're going to have matd and to talk about these
dog friendly businesses. He's coming up in the five o'clock
hour and coming up in a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
We're going to talk with Brian.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Hess Is this is this puck this hot product out yet?
That's what I'm trying to figure.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Out because when it does get out there, if it's
out right now or not, it is going to be
one of the hottest things when it comes to better
protecting yourself, your family, your home, your business, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, I'm going to say it might. I know it's
going to be better than an Apple air tag. We've
already know a little bit about it. So we'll talk
with Brian here in a little bit. And then the
Dublin Irish Festival, if you can believe we're about I
want to say, a month out.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
And this is such a big.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Production, mindy in central Ohio every year for years, for decades.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Right, Oh yeah, absolutely, and you've got to witness it
firsthand the other day, at least a taste of it,
I should say.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah, it was so.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Neat to see some of the things they're having going
on this year. And so we're going to have Alison Leroy,
who is the director of Events for the City of Dublin,
who you know the Irish Festival put event She's going
to be in and also will have a performance by
the Ladies.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Of Longford this afternoon. MIDI that's the oh so good.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I think that I'm not in studio for that, but
I'll still get to hear them and con work with
you guys.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
They apparently beautifully blended fresh present day Celtic band. Have
heard their daughters are amazing and it's a family affair,
which we all love.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
It's all that's awes.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
It's a mom and her two daughters kind of are
the framework of the band.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
So we will get that in the five o'clock hour
as well.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Awesome sounds good, and I know we have hot talkpics
coming up. And I learned two things. One thing I
had to learn when I got first day here on vacation.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Another thing I learned.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
While sitting at the pool. I cannot wait to share
them with both of you. They are must haves or
must do. Way do you hear this, Makaylain?
Speaker 4 (12:31):
I'm so curious what.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Do you know about him?
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Or not?
Speaker 1 (12:33):
All right, that's coming up next Hot topics right here
on six n WTVN. This is
