Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's okay for me to retire now I can call

(00:02):
it quits from my broadcast in career. I'm not going to,
but I could because I'm satisfied right now. Before we
get into that that, Kayla, let's set up your questions
and maybe the calls will come in.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
No, I'm just curious if anybody is saalegated yesterday, which
salegating is you do it instead of tailgating. And it
was a big deal at the Ohio State game yesterday.
So maybe you know somebody who did and you can
talk about it, or maybe.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
You're you did it in your back I don't know.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Six one four one nine eighty six six one four
eight two one at WTVN. I mean you could sailgate.
Does it require a TV.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
On your boat? This is what I want people to
tell me.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Like to tailgate, Well, when you tailgate, it's most of
the time it's before the game, but you.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Have like a radio or you have some people have TVs.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
A lot of people have to because they're going to
watch other games during.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah, So I'm just I'm curious. So that is my question.
So we'll set that up to see any of you
guys call.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
But Mindy Salegating, Tailgating. It's all funny the way you
look at it.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
The experience of a lifetime in journalism the other day.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, yeah, my number one entertainer in my entire life.
And literally started listening to Barry Manilow when I was
seven years old because of my mom. My mom went
to his very first concert here fifty years ago at
Vett's Memorial, and she couldn't get anyone to go with her.
She saw this guy on one of the shows and
she heard this song me Andy, or maybe it was

(01:24):
right before, No, it was right after Mandy, and she.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Coun't get anyone.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
She couldn't get anyone to go with her. And then
the next time Barry Manelo came to Columbus it was
sold out.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
So she was a fanolow from the very beginning.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
I had of ahead of her time with him, right.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
And so because Mom and I were always so close,
she got me to listen to Barry, and I was
hook line and sinker from the very beginning. I just
I would sit on my little rocking chair and all
I would do was listening to Barry manlo songs and
knew all the words to all of the songs. So
the opportunity came.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
To something that's never changed, the rocking chair or the manelo.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
The rocking chair. This has been my life for fifty
seven years. So then the opportunity came up where they
actually reached out to me. Barry's people reached out to
the people at Nationwide Arena. They said, we wouldn't want
someone to interview Berry, who do you recommend? Well, Dave
David from Nationwide Arena reached out, I know the perfect person.
So they reached out. One thing led to another, and

(02:21):
I literally got to interview through satellite and before we
did the actual recording interview, we talked a little bit.
And I'm sitting there when this is done, you guys,
it's like a zoom call and I'm sitting there and
i can see myself on half of the screen and
I'm waiting for the other half of the screen to
pop up with Barry's face. And when it did, I'm like,

(02:42):
oh my gosh, Barry Ferry, I can't believe we get
to talk to you. And he was so funny. He's
like why. I'm like, because I've been a fan of
yours forever. This I told him, I said, I've interviewed
so many people in my career. I think I'm more
nervous for you than I've ever talked to anybody.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
So one of the questions that I have some sound
for you one of the questions that I had, and
he was so heartfelt and so sincere, and I asked
him why Columbus Because he's only going to five states
and he's coming to Columbus on January eighteenth. Five states,
Ohio is one of the five. Columbus is one of
the nine cities. Because he's going to perform I think

(03:16):
three or four cities in.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Florida, never in a ten or five city tour, never
ever for anyone.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
And Berry mene Low, at eighty two years old, is
making this trip his farewell tour, And so I wanted
to know, out of all the cities in our country,
in the States, why Columbus. And this was his answer.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Oh, I wish I could give you a deep answer
to that, but really it's just about all the going
from one city to another on the buses and how
long it would take them to get to the next city,
and we're outing and stuff like that. However, when I
see what they've put together I do like these cities.
For instance, here we are in Columbus. I got my

(03:58):
cheat sheet. Here it says the last time we played
Columbus was two years ago. Okay, that's okay. But the
first time we played Columbus, okay, are you ready for
this was already five oh five, fifty years ago? Pulling up,
We played at the Varians Memorial Auditorium. I can't tell

(04:18):
you I remember it, but that was a long time ago.
And so why know I know Columbus. So that's why
it's moving to me to say goodbye and a farewell tour,
because I've known these people and this place, Columbus is
so long, and that's why it really is so moving
to me.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Can't wait for you to come back to Ohio in January,
and looking at your schedule, we are at your last
stop on this farewell tour. Anything you want to say
to everybody watching right now, to all of your fans
who have loved you for so long here in the
Buckeye see.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Of course, thank you from the bottom of my heart
for this career, for sticking with me all these years.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Very manelow the very man, such an honor. Thank you
so much for your time today.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Thanks Mandy, you're great.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Chrissy almost got out of that sound at the end.
Did you hear that very many?

Speaker 4 (05:19):
He's great?

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Oh gosh my yeah, that's my epitome, my highlight of
my career. I loved it talking to him. So when
is this concert? January eighteenth? And that's it, the last
stop on the tour, and he has a new song.
Are you ready for this? Yeah? It's called Once Before
I Go. Here's just a little sample of it. Go
ahead and listen. This is Barry's latest song. At eighty

(05:42):
two years young god, it's so.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Goodbye when there's so much that left one spoken in
your but unless I spread my wings again, I'm afraid
I never saw so kiss me for the last time

(06:11):
and hol me close.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
One small.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
One small one's face before I go. I wan't you know?

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Love you? I can't get over how buddy sound?

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Were eighty two?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Your living in love?

Speaker 1 (06:41):
So that Spary's the new song? Wow, Once before I go,
Once before I go?

Speaker 4 (06:48):
So I take it you were going, I am going.
Who are you gonna take with you?

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Ammy? Oh man? I think it's the nat thing because
Mom and I always went yes, and one time it
was so funny because he was performing. I was working
in Youngstown and he was performing up in Cleveland, and
I got tickets through the TV radio. I forget how
I got tickets, but we got four tickets. Yeah, So Randy, myself,
my mom, and Vicky all, my friend Vicki, Vobi all

(07:12):
went and Randy was like, that was the best concert
I've ever been to because he could get right in
to go to the bathroom. There was no line, but
the girls bathroom had a big.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Olong line down the hall and around the corner.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
So that that's my hot topic because he is coming
back at eighty two. And I put this on my
Facebook page. It exploded with people who have been following
him for years. Someone had saved a Columbus Dispatch clipping
or maybe back then it was a Citizen Journal CJ.
It was here, Yeah, of Barry's concert from fifty years
to fifteen years ago. Yeah, and my mom was there

(07:44):
fifty years ago at his very first concert and I
took her. You remember, I did doing very well, And
I told Barry about that in the part of an interview.
Part of that interview about what it meant to me
to be able to bring her one more time, which
at the time we thought this is it. He's not coming.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Back, coming back, So this time I thought, I'm gonna
bring Cammy. That's such a great idea to do that.
I love it, Minnie.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
I'm so glad. I was so happy for you when
I heard about this happening. Where were you shooting it?

Speaker 3 (08:09):
That was a question I had for you, like you
had some bookshelves behind you and what in my basement?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Because I don't work on Mondays. So we recorded that
on Monday.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
That's how you did it, okay, because it was a
beautiful thing.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
We use WebEx Spectrum so you can.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Just get on through your laptop.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
You can get in.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
When I first was told I was going to have
a chance to interview Berry me and I thought, I'm
not going to meet him. He's to come to town
for something. But it wasn't. It was a satellite interview.
But it's still I got to talk to him, right, Yeah,
you did and said I was great.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
He said you were great, And your basement.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Looked really good. Like I say, all the legos and
stuff for.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
The I thought it was book I thought it was booked.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
There was some books, but you could really see all
those legs.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
No, your mom, that's going to happen. No one called
about sale Gating. It's okay, you know, maybe they're on
their way back.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Why were you so intrigued by it?

Speaker 4 (08:54):
Because I actually have never heard of it before. I
don't know. I mean kind of like you never heard
of upside down pineapples.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
I never heard of sail meeting. Yeah, I've met a
lot of these stadiums have there on the river and
so you can pull up to the river right next
to the stadium.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
I'm not that savvy. Have you done that before?

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I have not, No, okay, I mean when I watched
the buck guys, it was always here, or I covered them,
you know, I would cover the National Championship, or went
up to ann Arbor, which like about puked do I
saw that big old stadium. I'm like that m is
not for Michigan.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
You drove up with Marcus and it was a lot.
I remember him saying that trip is a lot, a.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Lot to see all that mazing blue in your face.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
And it's just so massive right by the way.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Since no one called on sailgating, Dave Portnoy, which I
know everybody loves, not Michigan fan. But the barstool guy, right,
you know, he's been raiding pizzas. There's a little tiny
place here in Columbus that he loved and went bonkers.
So he was in He was in Champagne this weekend
and a pizza that I ate all the time growing
up called Monocles.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
He rated it and I I can't wait to see it.
I don't haven't seen the video yet.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Well, the one that he visited here in Columbus, You're right,
it went Boker's bonkers. So many people went there. Their
ovens broke.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
M hmm.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I'm like, Dave Portney needs to give them money to peix.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Does need to give them money to fix there.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
It was just an explosion of people wanting to try
their pizzas. That literally their oven.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Makes me sad for the business owner. That's no good.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
But I'm sure something Hopefully he came to the plate and.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Like and did something we're gonna have.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
He could buy an oven.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yeah, he could buy a couple of ovens.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
I think, well, okay, there you have it, guys Bury
a little bit of pizza, you know what have you?
We have tickets to give away for COSI we do
We have a four pack for Kosai after Dark and
a four pack of pe tickets.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Which includes Pixar.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
So all about that, What's going on with Pixar and
a sneaker ball on top of it?

Speaker 4 (10:53):
