Speaker 1 (00:01):
So we always talk about hot topics, and before we
get into that, we do have to tell people what's
coming up this show, because we have in our five
o'clock hour an amazing opportunity. If you've never been to
an Ohio State football game, obviously this season just kicked
off yesterday, if you've never been, Ben Jay, who's done
this before with us, Mikayla. He's now the president and

(00:22):
CEO of WARM. He's a director, I guess I should say.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
The director of such a great organization. And he'll talk
a little bit about that.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
The Westervial Area Ministry, Westernal Area Ministry Resource Center something.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Like that.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Is a resource ministry. Yeah, it's a reres ministry.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
WHRM, Restural Area Resource Ministry.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
But he used to work at Ohio State in the
Athletic department. So he gets tickets and he graciously and
generously donates them to us so we can give them
to someone who's never been and we want to hear
your stories.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, so five oh seven we'll start talking with Ben
and taking your stories and we'll explain a little more
how we'll do the giveaway. Then, you know, I thought
it was really wonderful many teams did this over the weekend,
but at the Ohio State game, they held a moment
of silence. Michel de Gudroux Brothers. Yes, I mean, Mindy,
you know, we'd had a tough week. But when I

(01:17):
woke up on Friday morning and I saw the buzz
before the announcement was happening because we are such a
hockey family, and I said, please let it not be true.
What what what's going on? Because there were a couple
people on Twitter on X who had called it and

(01:38):
it ended up being true. I can't think of a
more horrific situation for a family. I really can't, not
at all.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
I said.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
We were talking about it on RAW and I said,
out of all the stories I've heard lately, this is
one of the most horrible, heart wrenching, tear at every
single soul in your body. Just and you don't know
who you feel worse for. You know, Johnny and Matthew's parents,
their wife who just lost their father of two little kids.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
The sister who just lost both of her brothers.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
She's got another sister, but just lost both her brothers
the day before she's supposed to get married.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
All the way around, it is just horrific.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
And then what makes you even more sickening and sick
to your stomach is.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
That it all could have been avoided, could have been
five or six beers. Is what did this? And someone
who chose to drive, And I hope there are some
people who make that choice on a regular basis that
are following this story and are saying to themselves never again.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I hope.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So they had to be based on the way this
guy was maneuvering back and forth and trying to pass
this car in front of them on a county road.
They were in the middle of nowhere. This guy had
to get in front of this car and was going
to the left and to the right. They must have
been hit head on the full story yet, but we

(03:02):
do know they were dry and they were biking home
from the rehearsal dinner for their sister. Matthew's wife is pregnant.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Just to say, and.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
You wonder, you know, Mark Sny were talking about where
is where is God? In this moment we were having
this conversation. I want to say, yesterday, well, God didn't
cause this to happen.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
He didn't.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
The world has evil, We have free will. And when
you make choices that could lead to something like this.
This is what happens. We have choices, and this guy,
this piece of you know what, was upsetting court and
sat back inside because he had to stay in jail
till Thursday because it's a holiday weekend. That's how that

(03:51):
court appearance looked.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Gross When you ask where is God in situations like this,
and it's a fair question, right absolutely is God will
be there for them to continue on with their lives.
Because I have learned froll firsthand and for so many
different tragedy situations where I've interviewed people, it's the people

(04:16):
who are strong in their faith, who have the total
belief in God. That's what gets them through situations like this.
Because there's adversity in everybody's life. There's heartbreak, there's devastation,
there is all throughout the Bible, but you can overcome
it through the power of God.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
And I do believe that well, and they have.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
You know, Blue Jackets Nation is lifting them up. Everyone
is thinking of this family.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
There are so.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Many prayers and that's hanging them right now. That helps,
but it has to be just terrible, horrific and we're
all just thinking them and you're right, of it is
one of those stories. You haven't heard anything quite like it.
In a minute.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
No, I listened to the sports commentator on ESPN read
it that morning it happened, you know, the night before,
so the morning after, and just was beside himself, and
he even said at the end, I hate to even
read this next part. And that's where he announced that
they were home celebrating their sister's wedding, which was supposed

(05:18):
to happen that day when he was giving the report.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Yeah, so Columbus hearts are heavy.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
But you're years right. He was going in was third
year year. Yeah, he's eleven years with the NHL.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
And just like an amazing one of those athletes that
is more than just an amazing player, talk.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
About giving back and just someone.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
They had this picture of him at the glass with
his wife and his little baby, and oh it's just
like you know what times that's just one of those
times that are just wow.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
But in his thirty one years, he gave so much
back and so he had a life of purpose. And
I keep trying to think that's true.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
That's a good way of looking at it, because people
can live eighty one years and not give the way
he had already given.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, and not tapped into the possibilities.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
And his brother played hockey two he was a little younger.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yep, they played for a little bit together. I want
to say at Boston College. Maybe one year they played together.
But keep them in your thoughts, keep them in your prayers.
You all are amazing for what you're doing outside of
nationwide arena with the flowers, the candles. Thank you for
honoring his life. And let's challenge our friends to make

(06:27):
better choices. I think that's a really important thing coming
out of this.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Absolutely, Absolutely, there's that picture. Yeah, so sweet. Well, that's
something we had to talk We had to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
It's a thing that Columbus is talking about. Coming up next,
we're going to talk about protecting yourself at home, one
of the most important things you can do for your family.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, you can't always protect yourself from a drunk driver,
but you can absolutely take a stand and protect the
bad guys from coming into your home or business.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Brian Hess with Tattletale Portable Alarm Systems is in next
here on what matters
