Speaker 1 (00:00):
Going to play at least they get a buy. They're
the second seed. But the big news in college football
right now just came out is Notre Dame is so
mad that they did not make college football playoffs that
they are not going to a bowl game. They said, nope, no,
thank you, thanks, but no thanks. We should have been
in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
What ball game were they assigned to? Who they assigned
that already? Or now?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I don't know which ball game they were going to
go to, but they're not going, Chris, do you know
which game they were supposed to go to?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
No?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Isn't that kind of against everything Marcus Freeman stands for? It, says,
He just gave a big speech on the Today Show,
like an inspirational speech.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
This year's a little opposite, says.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
The decision came as a surprise to many fans, but
was announced by the university after the college football Playoffs selection,
singling disappointment of the outcome of the reason. The primary
driver was the team's exclusion from the twelve team college
football Playoffs despite going eleven and two, so they only
lost two games. They're not in this year. They have
a huge fan base. If you're a Notre Dame fan,

(01:00):
do you think of this? Do you think it's the
right move or the wrong move?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Six one four eight two to one WTVN six one
four eight two one nine eight eight six.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
I don't know. I feel like if you're honored, you
shouldn't say no.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
And it's still somewhat of an honor to go to
a bowl game?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Why just say no? What am I missing, mindy?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
What is the I'm not not deep in sports person missing.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I don't know if a team's ever done this before, Chris,
do you know? I mean, at least since the college
football playoffs have started. I know some people will hold
their best players who are going to the NFL. They
sometimes won't play in a meaningless bowl game if they're
not making the college football playoffs, right, But he's taking
a stance because he's so mad that Notre Dame is

(01:43):
not in the playoffs. He's like, forget you people, we're
not playing. We're not going to a meaningless bowl game.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I mean, they would go to a decent mold sure
they was ten and.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Two that they wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
They would probably maybe maybe a New Year's Day game.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
But are bowl game's pointless? If you're not in the
college football playoffs.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I don't know. I mean in today's well, with how
recruiting works, they might be important because they couldn't the
first of the game too, depending where they're at.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
So the Iowa State and Kansas State both opted out
of college football bowl games today.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
As well, and the Big Twelve says.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
It's going to find the schools half a million dollars
each for our decisions.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Well, we do know. Ohio State got the second seed
and they have a bye, which is good. The top
four seams get a bye, Texas Tech, Indiana, Georgia, and
Ohio State, and then there you go. We will play
the winner of Miami and Texas A and m they
have it. I'm waiting to hear from a Notre Dame
fan and what do you guys think of this? I

(02:44):
know there's a lot of Notre Dame fans in central Ohio.
What do you think of your team backing out of
no bowl game this year? And I like Marcus Freeman.
I liked yet nine you two.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
We worked with his.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Wife for a hot second at Channel four, Very hot second, Joanna.
And yeah, I just literally watched that like pump you
up speech from the Today Show on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
You know, within the last few days, very interesting?

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Are we unofficially wearing like I've decided that every weekend
I am wearing Christmas fair lead it out.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
We didn't even.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Talk to each others are so fun, They're just so fun.
Christmas garb is just fun. Even if it's the ugliest
thing and the oldest thing. It doesn't matter if it
says Merry Christmas or something Holidays.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
So what do you got going today? Let's see? Is
that this is like a card again with some reindeer
on it. Yeah, Rudolf and I like it. In the middle,
I rang her bell earlier. It didn't mean to do
you have?

Speaker 1 (03:41):
You got Santa on?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
You got like Santa? What do you think this is?
Like California Santa or peace Love and Santa.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
With heart shaped sunglasses.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yep, and like a pink hat. And then I have
on the classic look this hat is. This hat has
made it through time, man, and no matter where you go.
I had to run an errand right before I came here,
and they're.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Like, I love that hat and it looks warm.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
It is, and I thought I really would need it.
It's actually warmer today than I expected it to, so.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I said, there's a whole lot of melting going on today.
Is your hat looks like something your grandmother or great
grandmother could have crocheted or knitted or something.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, it's and I probably got it at Target. So
like the several years ago, it's been clutch. But okay,
now I know we didn't talk to each other. We
will be sporting on Facebook Live the.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Next few weekends. Christmas fun fun.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yes, Dick from Dayton is on the line real fast, Dick,
what is on your mind? Do you want to talk
about those buck guys?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (04:38):
I want to salute Ryan Day for a great year,
and I want to say that he should stay. I've
been a Buck Eye fan. It just that something happened.
But we're gonna win it in the Bowl. But I
think you did a remarkable job. I was disappointed, but
you could count me as an Ohio State fan.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Oh, Dick, Oh wait, thank you for calling invity. We
appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
You know.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
One of the things I thought was interesting at that game.
It tells you everything about coaching and the profession. The
look of hope on Ryan Day's face as the fielding
was trying to kick that field goal, right, And then
if I were coaching, I would be like so mad
when it doesn't go in and his face goes to
nothing because he's already thinking about the next play, like

(05:27):
so much hope in his face. I kept looking at
that shot because they replayed it a timer.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Chow, and of course they kept showing him on the
sidelines after he missed the kick.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And the kids devastated.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Well, it's kind of a chip shot. Should have been made,
for sure, Yes, I mean, but you know, pressure does
so much to an athlete. That's why so many people
saying when it comes to sports, it is ninety percent
from your shoulders up. It's what's in your head. You
can be so physically fit, you can be the fastest
guy on the team, the strongest guy on the team,
but man, it comes to that mental part of the

(05:56):
game and pressure. Pressure does a funny thing, Especially in
that type of a moment in situation, all I thought
of was, oh my gosh, his poor family, his poor parents,
I know, oh heart wrenching.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I'm sure he's going to get some quote unquote hate
mail or whatever it is for that too.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
But it's so different with playoffs. Now, yeah, they lost
that game, they're no longer the number one seed, they're
no longer the number one team the nation, but they've
got playoffs and they can still win the whole thing
like they did last year.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Right, it is completely different.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Speaking of sports, how are those good old Christo Rey games?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
The last couple of days.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
You've been such a supportive wife and fan, which no surprise.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh. It's so different being
on this side as a coach's wife. It truly is.
You know, Randy has such a great winning record, came
the winning as coach at Bishop Partley history, just does
a great job. He watches so much film. He gets
these kids prepared. This is what the program he's taking
over is like none other. I mean, honestly, they are

(07:00):
up against It's when you have six guys on your
team that never played organized basketball, when you're taking over
a team that didn't win one game last year. They
actually did win one, but it didn't count in the
record books because it was a homeschool team and it's
not in the Ohio High School athlet Like Association. When
you ask these guys, what's your goal this year? They
just want to win one game. And when you I'm

(07:20):
watching the very first game of the season and Randy
calls for a sub. Subs go in, and you're supposed
to check into the scores table. No, they just ran
right out on the court because they don't know. It's
a whole big learning process. Yes, but watching they had
four games last week in six days, I felt like
you were stupid a lot. Yeah, I felt like because

(07:41):
what Randy likes to do between games, has the team
watch film what they did right, what they did wrong,
and prepare for the next team that they're going to face.
When you have four games in six days, you don't
get a lot of preparation. So I'm telling you they're
going to have some wins this year, you mark my words.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
They're getting better. And and the one kid, poor god
love him, lost his shoe in the middle of the game.
I didn't even know to go over and pick it
up because he was price so embarrassed. They were a
free had to stop the game. It happened twice, and
so the second game came, I said, you know what, Randy,
all your SuDS checked itto the score table the second
game and nobody lost a shoe. It's baby steps, Baby steps.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
But they will learn and they will get this great
foundation from Randy.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
They played on Saturday. The first quarter score CHRISTA. Ray
was up twelve to two. They ended up losing, But
you were up twelve to two. You were actually up
in a game. Yes, they were up at halftime. And
you know what, they're baby steps.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
And Randy is going to take care of the shoulders up. Yes,
Randy's going to take care of it with these kids.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
It's so funny because I would be like this and
when he was coaching before, please let's win, Let's just win.
And now I'm at these games thinking, please, somebody just
make a basket. Somebody please make a basket. Really on
time though it is.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
And on top of that, speaking of fun, we both
have had our holiday moments this weekend.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
I said, I've had a lot of holiday. You had
a holiday, you were with friends, but it was you know.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
If you had two nights in a row, you were
Christmas eng it up Friday and Saturday.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, you hung over it all. I'm tired, That's what
I'll call it. I'll call it tired. I feel like
when you have to like get on the stuff. And
last night, like I had on the Sparkle.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
You know, we went to.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
You should text CAMMI would laugh. We went to good
Night John Boyd. Do you know what that is?

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I do not.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Okay, So it's down in the Short North.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
It's definitely an OSU hang out, most likely probably older kids,
and it is a club that has turned itself into
a holiday bar for the next few weeks.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
And so there is a downstairs.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
There's a mini dance floor with red and green checkered lights,
and it's decorated all around the dance floor, and there's
like a tree, and there's couches, and then there's the
bar that has all.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
These specialty cocktails.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
And I heard that I was going to feel real
old when I went in there, like real old, but
because we went at six point thirty last night, it
was everybody that was our age or older, and so no,
it's just so much fun.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
So I think you hear about it. You do hear
about different things in town.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
You know what I think? I do you do? I
think I that's my algorithm.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
My algorithm is things that are happening in town, and
then I'll save them and then I'll talk to a
girlfriend about like do you want to go do this
and you know, everybody, it's a busy time of year,
but everybody's up for some fun.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
You need some fun this time of year. Yeah, and
it's the busyness.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
I love December's and all December's here. It's all in
everybody is. I always think every time Christmas season comes around,
I think people are just a little nicer to one another.
There is such a thing as goodwill toward men, especially
on this Christmas season and in the season. Agreed, people
are a little nicer in the stores, on the roads, whatever.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, so enjoy it well. Last in December, we you know,
speaking of peace and peace of.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Mind, We've got a good old Brian Hess from Tattletale
Portable Alarm Systems.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
He's coming in today.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
He loved the last segment last month when he was
just talking about what to be thankful for for Thanksgiving.
So he wants to spread some holiday piece and peace
of mind, because that's what Tattletale is all about. Because
you know what, there's a lot of porch pirates out
there that you can order all this stuff and they
get snagged.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
I've seen so much lately on social media, sat.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Right out of your porch or off your porch. That's
just terrible. But you want to stay safe over the
holidays too, Makayla.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, So he'll tell us how that can happen and
how you can find your peace of mind.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
And all month long, guys, we are giving away tickets
to Valley Dale. They have a huge, beautiful, awesome Christmas
dance party there, so you will be able to win tickets.
That's coming up in the five o'clock hour, and another
chance to win more tickets.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
To the classic play a Christmas Carol with the Contemporary Theater.
We'll talk to them about I think it started this
last week, but you have a chance to win a
pair of tickets to go see that. So we'll talk
holidays with them, and then we have some time with
the I almost said the Columbus, but the Ohio Chain
of Commerce.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Matt McClaren I swear he has one of the best
jobs in central Ohio. He gets to travel all around
the state finding the hidden treasures that we all want
to go and visit ourselves. So where do you want
to go to look at holiday lights or displays or events.
He has a list like none other. So he's going
to join us at five point thirty five to talk
about that.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
All right, So hot topics come up next. We always
love to hear from you. What is on deck for you?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I was at a Westerville City Council meeting a couple
of days ago and something happened there that's never happened before,
and I'm going to share it with.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
You, okay.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
And is there a family relationship crisis going on right now?
A couple of people, couple of researchers are talking that
there is. And I think it'll be interesting to see
if you guys think you find this true in your
family or not based on the research.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Are you estranged from someone in your family?

Speaker 3 (12:54):
There's actually like a decent statistical chance if you believe
this research that you might be. That's sad, though, It
is sad, especially around the holidays. So give us a
call six one four eight two one nine eight eight
six six one four eight two one WTVN to chime
in on hot topics.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
That's when we come back. This is what matters
