Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm sure you're going to, but as you drive around
(00:01):
the neighborhood, I cant believe how many people already have
Christmas lights up. That means their trees are up, their
houses are decorated, and it ain't even December. It no.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
I mean, you have the lake house decorated. It's going
to be so cute.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
But that's only because I'm not there all the time.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
You have a little lake house with little lights and
whatever you have up. The rest of us, Melinda Peters
Elliott Fine Designs and Interiors, we need some help because
I still live in Thanksgiving mode with pumpkins.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Around my house, and you should be Yeah, well, when
you are in retail, you're thinking about Christmas in July.
So we are like, this is late, you know, this
is late season to be decorating. But we got our
store all decorated the last couple of weeks because we
had an open house last weekend and we we have
just enjoyed like having that. You know, you know, it
(00:51):
just makes you happy. I don't know what it is
about Christmas decorating, It just, you know, kind of lifts
your mood.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I don't know percent agree. In fact, I was decorating
the little place, which took about two minutes. That little
put the Christmas music on. You know, you can have
that crackling fire on your TV, you know to go
YouTube or a candle, oh I got candles going to
absolutely but it does lift your spirits. There is something
about the holidays, yeah, so why not decorate your home
(01:21):
for Christmas?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
And this this week can be kind of tricky because
if you have people coming in from out of town
and you're limited in space and your tree goes up
in a certain where area where the chair needs to be,
you know, wait till it's over. But once we get
in Black Friday mode, we are all all Christmas, you know,
as everybody else.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
But if you need ideas, we did some.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Really great things, you know that were really simple to
do on our tree, and I wanted to show you
guys something that you could do and it was super simple.
So what it is and this is a paper clip
and a piece of ribbon.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Right, if you guys go to Mikayla Hunt's Facebook page,
you'll be able to see Melinda and see exactly what
she's holding up. And she's going to teach us how
to make a bow.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It looks like it's it's I call it a potato chip,
and I don't know why I do.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I mean, it's it's ruffle.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
I did is I just folded it right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
So that's just a normal piece of ribbon.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, yeah, with wire on the bottom. So all we
do this is a trick and you can staple it
or our paper clip it. Yeah right here at the bottom,
by the way at the bottom. So and you can
you could also leave like a trail if you wanted to,
like at the bottom, like a tail. Okay, like a
(02:46):
tail or a trail whatever. Okay, but anyway, okay, so
I clip this right, or you can you can stay
it and then you stick it in your tree.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Oh that looks good.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
And once you stick it in your tree, you don't
see the back of it. H But this is good filler.
This is like an excellent filler A tree.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Professionals tips like when people go and decorate trees.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, okay, I like that idea because we all need fillers.
We do all sometimes we don't have enough ornaments, so
we need some fillers.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, so you put point settas you do berries. You
can do two or three different kinds of sizes of
ribbons from big wide ribbon down to really small ribbon. Yeah,
and then different ribbons so we can put this all
in the same tree. We could stick it together.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Oh lovely scarlet and gray.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Yes, exactly for Ischigan week because I'm always it always
seems like I'm watching the game and decorating for Christmas.
I don't know what it is about that.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
That's called timing.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yes, yeah, So next Sunday we're doing an old fashioned
Christmas downtown London and we do this every year. It
is from two to seven and the whole downtown of
London is It becomes a Hallmark movie.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
It is so magical and.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
They have carollers and sleigh rides and every store is
open and everybody has something you know that they're offering.
So we're going to be open and you can see
our beautiful trees and get some inspiration. But it is
it's just a fun time. I love old fashion Christmas.
We're going to be selling fudge and serving coffee and
(04:29):
just having a magical time. So is it Saturday and Sunday,
But it's just Sunday afternoon Sunday.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
That's why you're in studio right now. Yes, I'm looking
at the forecast for next Sunday and it says it's
going to be forty seven, but it's calling for rain.
You know that means yeah, it means it won't rain. Yeah, seriously,
when it's this far out, that's my rule of thumb.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Real.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Whatever the extended forecast shows, it's always the complete opposite. Oh,
I hope it's well. I like snow, it's not old
fashion Christmas, but.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Rain, rain and freezing rain keeps everybody at home.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
So I hope that doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
So Mindy have been doing something at the lake house.
She's used a dollar store finds to be able to
decorate some of the lakehouse, which makes so much sense
if you have a second property and you want to
be able to do things on a budget. Like this
is Mindy's world, and I get it. She's cheap and
I'd love her for it, and she but these I've
been seeing these what I've been calling dollar store dupes,
where you take some of this stuff, whether it's ribbon
(05:25):
or other accouterments and bring it together to make things.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Wait wait, wait wait wait other what what is that like?
An extra things?
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Michayla.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
This is a difference with I'd say just stuff. She
says it must be an. It does sound like sugarty board,
but with it.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Like I have seen this stuff and I want to
go in and do some stuff because it makes it
look like a pottery barn or maybe well you could
get a hobby lobby.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Do you think we.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Can go in? Are there certain things to get in
a store to help?
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, I guess absolutely.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
You know, you branches, like even if it's like a
pine branch, or maybe you have an old Christmas tree
that is, you don't have all the branches for like
you know how you used to like poke them into
the all the way around the post. Like if you
can find trees like that, get the branches and just
use those to put around your house.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Or stuff in the tree.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Yeah, that's yeah. So I also find the tree.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I buy like those six foot garlands that have like
the pine cones and the and the you know, extra
Christmas tree stuff. You know it looks like pine needles
or whatever. And I put three of those on my
tree and I go sideways with them and.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
It fills all the holes. I never thought it is beautiful.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Every time I do that, I think that's such a
good idea where I came up with this.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
You look off festive already, you got your feeling on.
You've got a green elvet blazer right there. Are you
looking forward to the new year because this is the
last time we will talk to you in studio, yes,
for twenty twenty five. Are you looking forward to find
designs and interiors for people and decorating their homes and
businesses and things idea?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
I am.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
I'm really looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
And I wanted to offer everybody a design workbook that
they could get. And this is a really nice thing
that we put together ourselves, and this covers all different
kinds of things. So this is a free book I
can send to you. And if people go if you
go to my website and you scroll all the way
(07:37):
down to the bottom and it says contact us, or
just go to the contact us page, then what you
can do is just put in your email and then
put design Workbook in the comments and we will send
to you.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
If you add your address, we can send it to
you that way too.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
So it is this is a great thing to have
on hand, and it is actually talking about different things
like what kind of expectations you need to have when
you are doing a remodel or you're going to decorate.
It gives you a budget worksheet, like how how can
you set a budget for yourself for your new home
(08:15):
and or your existing home if you're doing furniture or
just different things throughout the house. So I've worked really
hard on that book, and I think it's a really
helpful tool.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
So I but this is brilliant.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Yeah you put this together. Yeah, yes, goodness, look at
you doing and.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
I look at I look at your services. And we
talk so much about decorating, but you will analyze a
home floor plan. You guys do do accessories and things
and stuff stop get people ready to sell their home.
You do holiday decorate, build you custom bedding?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yes, what do you mean for custom be what do
you do?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
We make duvets and coverlets and pillow shams and bed
scarfs and dust skirts and table skirts and table runners,
and like I have my own drapery work room, so
we can make anything out of fabric.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Basically, it's a good skill to have commercial design green design.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yes, yeah, so she will send you this book. Go
to find designs and interiors. It's also on your Facebook page.
I mean, if you just comment on one of her
little Facebook posts.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Yes, or send me a message A damn yep, you
can put design workbook please, so.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Fine designs and interiors. Just say I want a free
book of stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
I just celebrated my thirty fourth anniversary.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I saw that and I'm sorry being a high school
football mom, you guys lost. I know you guys went
far though, but yeah, thing is your son Gavin plays. Yes,
and he's still young. His class is a pretty good class. Yes,
they're a Now.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Can they can keep them healthy?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yell can be hard like that.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
My mom heart can't take much more. You know. I
was kind of like, oh, you know, every game, I
would just pray that nobody would get hurt.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
You know they do. Yeah, and they kept getting hurt.
So that's football. But now back Kevin also plays basketball,
so now I can rev up for that.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
We start basketball on Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Get a break, no one day, one day, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
And they were into basketball season. I thought most schools
gave if you crossover sports, you had like a week
or two to take off the Nope. Not London. Why
that's why London's always so good at everything?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yes, consistent are consistent, Blinda, we love you. This is
a great I called a freemium. It's such a smart
thing to get people to you. Again, where can people
go to get it?
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Well? Facebook, you can go to Facebook and just find
fine designs and interiors. Oh and I have a decorating
style quiz that I posted earlier, this after what is
your holiday decorating style?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
So what are the choices?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
There are four different ones. Take it and it's like,
are you a traditionalist? Are you a lamb? Are you contemporary? Modern?
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Or I forget what the lost lamb?
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Like?
Speaker 1 (11:19):
What would be an example of the modern?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Like metals like mixing metals like gold and silvers, and
you know, something like glammy like super sparkling. Or are
you cozy cabin? Are you a cozy cabin decorator? Are
you a traditionalist? Do you like red? I thought I
knew myself and I took the quiz that I was
something else.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
So you can take this quiz and it'll tell you
what you are. Yes, I think you are maybe a traditionalist.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Yeah, you've been in my house for I thought it
was I was more of a cozy cabin person that
I was.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Well, that's for my own home.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
But you know, for different people, I have different vibes.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
But I think you are mindy, probably traditionalist, but you
might be minimal minimalist. No, she's not minimalist. Color. My
house looks like it pukes up Christmas every year. That
much stuff. It's so gaudy and it's so fun. But
(12:21):
that's okay. She's like maximalism because I won't get rid
of things either. Things can be so broken. I've glued
like so many Santa feet. I'm like, I can't throw
it out.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
She's a great story where her in laws always gave
Christmas decorations to that.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
That you would go to up in Michigan, Frank and
Move or Frank and Moose. Yeah, so they would always
bring us back. That's fun.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I give my daughter in law's snowflakes, like the Lenox
snowflakes every year. Ever since they got married. I've been
buying a snowflake forum further Tree every year.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Put your hands out there, you're missing a nail. Christmas
should break.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Designs at Interiors dot Com will be right back.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
This is what matters
Speaker 2 (13:07):
