Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, here we go. What's up Boots? You anything here?
Boots has a dog loose, so whoever let the dogs
out needs to let Boots know here. But this is
Joe Schmidz filling in for Minny and Michayla today. They've
got prior obligations. So I'm here with the marketing director
of Peak Retirement, Megan Castleberry. So, Megan, if you want
(00:20):
to say hi to everyone here.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hello, everyone, so happy to be here to be fun.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Yeah, we've got a fun agenda here today. We're gonna
have cosy in We're gonna be speaking of open arms counseling,
and we're gonna be sharing a lot about what we
do here at Peak as far as education content. So
kind of the theme of today's show is gonna be
all along the lines of just community and just helping others,
and so hopefully those that are interested in those topics
we're gonna be discussing today are excited to have some fun.
(00:47):
So all kind of started off. Just introduce myself and
have Megan introduce herself and then we'll get into some
conversation here today. But my name is Joe Schmidz. I'm
the CEO and founder of peak retirement planning based in
here in Coamas, Ohio, help those about you know, fifty
five to seventy plan for retirement. And we do a
lot of educational content, as I mentioned that we'll discuss
(01:07):
here today. And I've got Megan who is also a
friend of mine and we actually went to college together
at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and she runs a lot
of the marketing for us, and so that involves a
lot of the content we do on YouTube. We've written
three books that she's been a big help of. We
do a lot of educational workshops at our education center
at our office where we have you know, up to
(01:28):
forty people come in and hear a speaker speak there.
We'll talk about some of the upcoming ones we have
there as well. And so I'll let Megan kind of
introduce herself and fill her she can fill us in
a little bit more on our connection here.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well, yeah, Joe and I go back all the way
to college at Mount Vernon, and I remember just knowing
who he was, but didn't actually know him until my
junior year of college. His senior year, he reached out
to me. I was leading a Bible study for athletes
called Athletes in Action, and he was like, Hey, I
see your leading this group by yourself.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Do you want some help?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
And so we sat down and met about it and
became friends ever since that and just had a great
connection and stayed in touch over the years. And it's
actually really funny because I was able to help with
peaks marketing from the beginning, just with our logo and
branding and giving them some insight on different things and
getting to come full circle now and work with Peak
(02:23):
full time. It is an absolute dream come true. Can
it be a better fit for me? And just really
fun to do incredible things with incredible people.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
So I love it.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, that's great. And you know, our firm at Peak
is a family feel firm and we have you know,
I always tell people my mom quit her job to
come join me when I first started Peak many years ago,
and we've gone from just that to now over forty
team members and continuing to grow. And it's fun because
it's all family and friends. So we've got personally eight
(02:53):
people from the college that we graduated with that we
work with, and we even have a lot of family
members and friends on our team that work with us too.
We've got an advisor whose brother works with us. We've
got another advisor who has his brother, and then also
that brother's wife works with us. And we've got one
of our advisors his best friend from college works with us.
(03:14):
I've got a buddy from fourth grade that works with us.
And So when you can build something that is impactful
and meaningful to so many different people and do it
with people that you care about, it's a lot of fun.
And I always tell Megan and a team all the time,
I say, you know, what would this, you know, look
like in thirty years, or what will this look like
in thirty years when we all look back, you know,
(03:34):
because we're one of the younger financial planny firms in
the area and really the country, and just with being
as fast growth as we've been, it's exciting to say
we're going to be doing this together probably the next
twenty thirty plus years, and it's going to be exciting
to look back and say, man, look what we've done.
Look at all the impact we've had, look at all
the challenges we've overcame, and you know, all the lives
(03:54):
that we've we've impacted through the way. So it's going
to be a lot of fun, a lot of rewards,
and a lot of benefits. Megan, you've only heard me
say that like once or twice, so.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Right, Yeah, just a couple of times here and there.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
So but yeah, fun stuff at at peak there for sure.
And we can talk start talking here today. We've got
Cammi quarter Cracks. Senior Day is today, So that's why
Mendy is not filling in here. Megan and I were
both college athletes ourselves, and so we know what the
feel is of not having that continue on and obviously
(04:26):
it's a bittersweet feeling. It's part of it for me
was this was great because you know, now I have
more time. When you're a college athlete, I mean, you're
a full time job that plus classes, it's drooling on
your body, it's droolling mentally because you have to compete
every day and be your best every day. And I
think it helps people who are athletes be successful in
(04:47):
the world world for sure. But there's a lot but
also you're missing out on the relationships you built over
the years. Obviously that competition, you're not gonna be able
to find that same level of togetherness with a team
and with the competition and so that's always going to
be missed, and it's a season of life that you
can't ever get back, which is always hard to deal with,
but always grateful that it happens. So, Megan, you can
(05:08):
kind of share a lot of your thoughts playing soccer
at alvern and there and how senior day and senior
year was for you there.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, bittersweet, it's just the perfect word to describe it.
I mean, the memories that you make with your teammates,
it is so fun. You were in the trenches from
freshman year two a day's all of the bus rides.
I know, Joe has told me some crazy stories about
the basketball team bus rides at Malvernon, but no, I had.
It was such an incredible program at Malvernon's so grateful.
(05:36):
I had incredible coaches and you know, one of the
best pieces of advice and just biggest takeaways I had
from it, my coach would always remind us you were
going to be a person a whole lot longer than
a soccer player, and so he was trying to build
us up as women.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
And you know, you touched on it.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Everything that you learn being a student athlete, just all
of the discipline the time management that comes into it,
like that is going to play over into every aspect
of your life. You just have to find something else
to apply it to. And so you know, I look
at someone like Cammy just absolutely incredible. She comes into
the office and she just has such a bright future
ahead of her and just knowing you're applying everything that
(06:14):
you learned with sports into whatever is next for you
and it's just going to make you so incredibly successful
and just have such a bigger edge over so many people.
I mean, even we look at people in our hiring process.
We love hearing that people were athletes. It it helps
people so much to just set them up for success.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, and Megan knowl is a big part of our
marketing team, but also our HR and hiring team, which
we are you know, continually higher. So if there's anyone
out there that is looking for a great place to
work with great growth, you know, have them apply with us.
If you know a family friend or that's yourself. But
we do look for athletes in our hiring process. And
last year we had what twenty six hundred applicants, twenty
six hundred applicants and we only hired nine of them,
(06:55):
just because of how particular we are with ensuring we're
finding the right fit. But we tell people, we say,
we run fast, we work hard, and we make a
huge difference. And so if someone is not excited about that,
then obviously it's not gonna be the best place for him.
And that's okay. You know, we're not looking for everyone
uh to work with us, nor should everyone want that.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Plus we say, you know, we're we're running on the
treadmill at full speed. So if you're not an athlete,
you probably can't get on that treadmill.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Anyway, you can keep up. We're running at full speed
on incline.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
And sometimes Megan will put on some hiking boots and
put the incline all the way up and you know,
to put the sprint on. We actually have a treadmill
in our gym at our at our office, and you know,
Megan's caught down there sometimes, you know, running the treadmill
full speed with some some hiking.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Boots make goodness, Yeah, Megan mode, Megan Mode good stuff.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
So hopefully good luck to Cammy here today on senior Day.
And I know Mendy's balling her eyes out, but you
know she's well deserved. She's had an incredible career at
Ohio State, and what's so awesome with with with camiss One.
She's a client of ours and so we enjoy being
able to see serve her and and see all the
success she's had. But this is going to set her
up so well for after college. The amount of connection
(08:04):
she's had, the amount of opportunities she's had to work
with businesses, it's just she's just a very successful person
and just going to do really well. So some more
exciting news as well. This past weekend, the Cap City Marathon,
the half marathon was in town, and you've got two
runners on air here. So actually Megan and I actually
ran that. We ran it successfully. We finished. You know,
(08:27):
Megan hit her her goal time there, so she's feeling
pretty good. I think she's a little sore. She said
it's harder to come down the stairs and up the stairs,
So any runners out there may understand that concept. But
give your thoughts. Meghan on the on the Cap City
Marathon half marathon yesterday. I thought it was great. I
thought it was an incredible turnout. I think there was
over ten thousand people there. Great energy, great people, a
(08:49):
lot of fun. I always say, with with marathons and
running events like that, you never see people as happy
as that. And it's crazy because they're running, so you
wouldn't expect to be happy, but just a big running
you know. The community is very you know, just encouraging
and polite and nice and so a lot of fun
to be around that.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah. No, everyone was so fun, so positive.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
You know.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I was sticking actually with the pacer for nine minute
miles and he was just encouraging people along the way
who were walking and talking to us the entire time.
And Joe actually gave me a piece of advice before
the race. He said, hey, if you smile more, it
actually helps you run. And it was just so easy
to smile the entire time. There were people cheering along
the sides. I couldn't believe the amount of people on
(09:32):
the sides just cheering. I saw some crazy signs, let
me tell you, but they were making me laugh. And
I had actually done it half before, but I just
ran it on my own, and so it was a
completely different experience and it was so so much easier
and also just so much more fun doing like an
actual legitimate race. And I'm pretty sure cap City that
half marathon is rated like top five, number two in
(09:55):
the nation or something like that. So it's a really
great one and it's a great tour of down to
on Columbus. Oh my goodness, you get to see everything.
So the weather was good, wasn't too hot, got a
little bit of sun though still through the clouds, but
it was it was a beautiful day.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yeah. And Megan moved from Texas to come work with
us here at peak retirement. She's from Norwalk but came
to Coumbus and as very familiar with Columbus. So anyone
looking to get familiar with the city come to a
half bath on and get to see it all. And
we'll be doing the Coumbus nationwide one in the October
two so hopefully some listeners here are excited for that
as well. That's a fun just event and seeing all
(10:31):
the people come out. But that's all we've got on
this segment here. We're going to go on and we'll
go to ads here and we're going to come back
and talk about the Midwestern Millionaire event that we just
had Michaela speak at, and we're going to talk about
the fun we had on it. So we'll be right
back here on six' ten WTV n
