Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, it's not Mindy this afternoon, but it's another m
you know, and love and we're on Facebook linee. You
better get on there because yeah, you heard that voice.
Maria Durant is in the studio. I talked her into
coming in today.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Love it. I love being able to join you, so no,
whenever you need me.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
I texted her. I was in Georgia and Mindy tells
me I'm not going to be back.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I'm going to be on a plane and I was like,
who am I gonna ask?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I know, you know your clutch people in your life
for this, Maria is one of them, and you're in
very good company because Gail Hogan is another one.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I talked to you first.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I did not text Scale okay, because you know, as
a grandmother of many, it can be hard.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, she's probably got a lot on her plate.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
She does, but Maria said, let me check with my
hubby and I'll see if I can do it, and
then voila, you could.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Many's so happy.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Plus I'm just down the street from you anyhow.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
You are literally we run into each other, or I'll
run into her husband walking their dog. Now, because we
have two new puppies, we are out more. They survived.
Gays were away for like seven or eight day seven
or eight days, okay, yeah, so they went to pet Palace.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Okay, that's where we bring our dog to.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Do you like it? I think I had a really
positive experience.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
I do too. I mean, yeah, so he goes there
when we're away. Yeah, but it's hard to go away
when you have pets because you don't want to do that.
You don't want to send them to the puppies spall
or whatever. I keep trying to tell myself that.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
It's called and they when you tell them that too.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, because we had someone who used to come watch
our older dogs. But I just felt like it would
be a big responsibility with puppies, with two puppies who
little like six month old.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Dogs, but they survived.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I'm pretty confident Marcus paid more so they could have
their own little room.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
And their treats. You know. But everything, you know, everything
you do extra is ten dollars twenty dollars here, and
it can yad up well.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And you are technically I mean, Donovan's at school, he's
finishing up and we'll talk about that in a minute actually,
but you're technically an empty nester. So you can go
on trips, but you do have to think about the dog.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yes, so we're not an empty nester.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Not yet yet, not yet when you think about the dog.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
No, when I had a teenager, I could leave him
alone for a weekend. But you can't leave the dog alone.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
No, you can't.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
They cannot fend for themselves. Now, what's your dog's name?
I don't even know if I know your dog's name?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Cruiser?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Cruiser.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Cruiser's really cute, too old, Cruiser fourteen cruiser.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Wow, Like up there? I like it, I know.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
And he's slowing down taking a walk takes extra time and.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Patience, right, Yes, I do see you guys kind of mosying.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
If I'm driving, you're kind of mosying along.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
We're going at his pace, which is is how you
do need to treat an elderly dogs, and absolutely is.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
You know, this is the first dog I've ever had.
I never grew up with a pet.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Why, just out of curiosity?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
No, my family we traveled a lot as as my
dad was in the military, and you know, it just
wasn't something that you know, my dad always had had
a pet when he grew up, but because of traveling,
they were just like, no, you know, we don't. We didn't.
They don't want to do that.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
That's really nice. Has been a blessing.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yes, and a challenge and everything above.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
So Donovan, your son. I cannot believe it. I cannot believe.
I remember when he went to college.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yes, and I think we talked about that too, and
you know, him going away and how hard that was
for me and coming home and literally going into his
bedroom and laying down on his bed.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
You're like, what I know, but the house was so
quiet these four years though he's.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
By fact, he's about to be done in May. Yes,
May nineteen, he graduates.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Did it feel as fast as it looks to me?

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yes? Okay, it did?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Okay, yeah, extremely, And I mean, as you know, he
was in school in Boston and we kept thinking, oh,
you know, next year, we're going to spend more time
in Boston. Next year we're going to spend and yeah,
next year is no longer right because next year he's
going to be here.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I think you have to share this news. This is
just such exciting news.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yes, So he got into dental school at the Ohio
State University. I am so excited for him. It was
his top choice. He wanted to come back. So I
have such a We're so excited.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
They have such an amazing dental school, Maria. I mean
like one of the top in the country if I'm
not mistaken.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Well, and the fact too is you know, just being
here and the connections that he'll be able to make,
I think it'll be incredible. So we're really excited for him.
And I said, oh, are you going to live back
at home?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Okay, what's the answer to that question?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
No? No, what the no came for my husband?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
He said, I like it quiet.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I like being able to drive over maybe to the
campus area that's where he is. But now he has
to start thinking about finding a place to Oh oh no.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
So this is what is I don't know, is he
my son because he doesn't wait till the last minute.
He's all set. He's already set. He has an apartment,
he's all good for next year. Yeah, and he'll be
rooming with three other dental students.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
And how did he meet them.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
He hasn't met them yet.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
They just got connected online.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Instagram whatever it is. Yeah that the kids do now
these days. But yeah, he's all set. Yeah, he's gonna
he's going to try to meet them during Easter break
when he's here.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I cannot believe you're gonna have a kid in dental school,
you know.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I mean that's and is it dental schools four years?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
It's four years and then if you want to go
on to like oral surgery or specialize in something like that,
it is I think three to four more years after that.
Does he want to do a special initially, yes, but
we'll see what happens after, you know, getting into this.
And I mean, that's a long time in school.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
It really is. I'll see.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
I mean for those folks going that specialty direction, whether
it's dental school or you're a doctor or anything anything,
I mean, it is. It is a long commitment. But
I know how hard he studied to do this.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Wait, did he take what did they take to get
into organic chemistry?

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Which I would not do so well?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
And I don't know what organic chemistry is. So we
went to we went and saw him, you know, up
at Boston, and they had, you know, in one of
the study rooms, you know, those those white boy words
that go across the room, someone had put some kind
of organic chemistry problem on the board. It was only
one problem that covered the entire board and it looked

(07:11):
like alien hieroglyphics or something, because it made no sense
to me.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Is your husband good in that area?

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Not really?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
So you attorney as he is, so you're very you're
both very like linguistics in these things, you know, communicators attorneys.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
And then you're like, oh, did he take the m cat?
Am I remembering that correctly.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
So they don't take the m CAT. They take the DTAT.
It's a dentistry stuff. It's it's something similar.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I remember running into you when he was getting ready
to take that. Wasn't Didn't he study the whole summer?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yes? That I studied the whole summer, And oh there's
a there's a big story about that too. He almost
didn't get to take it.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (07:55):
But he brought in you have to have all these
identification cards, all these things that say who you are, okay,
And so he brought in his driver's license, I think
his passport. I don't know, several pieces of information that
clearly if you were traveling or getting your license, you

(08:16):
could or not getting your license, but I don't know. Yeah,
if you were traveling, it would it would get you
to where you needed to go getting married.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Maybe you're getting.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Married like that.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yeah, But they told.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Him he didn't have the proper papers. He calls me
in a panic, and I'm like, call your father, he's
the attorney, Call your father. Point And so I don't know.
He decided I don't to write his to I guess,
I guess what he didn't have was he didn't sign something.

(08:49):
You know, he didn't have his signature on maybe his
driver's I know, our credit card, something that he brought.
He didn't have a signature. So what he did was
he went back into his car, took out his college ID,
signed it with a sharpie, and then showed it to him.
And they said, oh, come on in, take our test.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
That's all that's it took.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I mean, I know that they're really worried about other
people taking tests for individuals.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
This seems a little much. It was.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I mean, he had his passport, he had, he had
proper identification that allows you to travel.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
And the mind set that puts you in getting ready
to take a test, I can only imagine.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
But he passed. Everything went well.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
And he's coming back, and he's coming back. That's such
good news.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Well, congratulations Mama, because I know you have to be
super excited and excited and now.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
We have somebody to watch the dog when we go away.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
There you go, Cruiser, Cruiser, you are set. So if
you guys want to talk to Maria, because we love
to give you this opportunity.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Please do call. Yeah, We've he got Zach back at.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
The station and Chris producing here at the Jermaine studio
six one four eight two one nine eight eight six
six one four eight two one WTVN. You can call now,
you can call the next segment. We'll have some spots
throughout the show. First of all, one of our partners
that's on today, I find them very interesting given your

(10:23):
work now running communications for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
We're gonna have Brian Hess who's the founder and CEO
of Tattletale Portable Alarm Systems on and it's always interesting
to talk to see what new technology he has that's
out there keeping community safe.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
And I'm sure you hear about this kind of thing
all the time.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Oh yeah, And what I'd like to ask ask him too,
is I wonder if you know AI or anything like
that plays into any of his work whether it's good
or bad.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I cannot wait to hear his answer to that question.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
So, yeah, that would be the very interesting to find out.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, so we'll talk to him this hour, and then
a group that Marie, I'm sure you worked with over
the years, I've done some work with to the Center
for Family Safety and Healing at Nationwide Children's Hospital. They'll
be in a little bit talking about home visits, maternal
infant home visits, and some of the work they're doing
throughout Central Ohio, which I know is a really important

(11:23):
topic because our infant mortality rate is not great.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
It hasn't been over the years at least.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Well and for a lot of times too. I mean,
you have, you know, women, couples that have never been
parents before, and just to have somebody, you know, say
you're doing a good job, everything's good, or you know,
giving you some advice. I mean that helps.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
It does.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
And then those little course corrections that you write may
not know of because to your point, you've never been
a parent before. So we'll have a conversation with them,
and then the contemporary theater, which we were talking before,
and Maria said, I think I know who this is,
but I'm not sure, and then you said.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Cato or Petco.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Yes, CatCo rebranded as the Contemporary Theater. Within the last
couple of years, Christy Farmbach with cat Co was in
and there's a giveaway.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
I think I think.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
The last five years might have been a book, and
I think I may have read it. And it's the
next show that's that's coming up.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Oh, I'm excited to hear about it.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
It has a strong following among millennials apparently, so.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Well, I'm quite not quite there.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
No, your gen X are like me and so I
have millennial sisters. Well one of them is officially a millennial,
the other one is like, definitely on the line.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Let's just past millennial. Put on her glasses.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah right, I mean so you can read it.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Why didn't you put this in tiny prints.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Chris, Oh my goodness, Like this is ten or eleven
font what's going on for us older ladies here?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
It's just it's just what the printer did.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
What the printer did.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Well, we have our glasses to help us today. We
both pulled them out. But we'll do a ticket giveaway
then and then we're just going to talk good news,
hot topics, all the things.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
I'm just really glad to have you here today.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm so glad that you're back from your vacation to
this wonderful weather that we're having here in Columbus.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Yeah, you'll get a weather reporter or too from Zach today.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Okay, Oh my gosh, this is what matters with Mikayla
and Maria this Sunday here on six ten WTVN
