Speaker 1 (00:05):
Boom, boom, boot.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Let the dogs out.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Normally, Michayla's always barking at me. But today if you
hear a dog barking on the air with us, that's
because we've got dogs in studio, Mikayla, we do.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
It's been a minute since we've had dogs in studio actually,
now that I think about it. But these are two
wonderful ones. I was getting a little story about one
or two of them earlier.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
So we're excited. Rico pet Recovery is here and you're
the owner. Yes, is the owner.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I started it.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
That's a Marcy welcome, and you brought along with you.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
This is Chris, and tell us first a little bit
about Rico pet Recovery.

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Mindy's been following you for a while, but everybody else
wants to hear about it.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Ah, So a little bit about Rico pet Recovery.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
We started as a recovery service for lost, stray and
abandoned dogs. We have highly specialized equipment to recover dogs
that no one else can catch.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
If you lose your dog and they're hiding.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
Well, what happened is we started, you know, capturing these
strays and we needed places to take them. Rescues are full.
Sometimes county shelters are full. So we actually then started
the rescue side of the organization where we not don't
just recover the dogs, but we actually put them into
foster homes. We provide medical care and get them placed
into their forever homes.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
So, these two sweet ones have quite the story. It
sounds like they tell us about this.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
So this is June and Benny.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
So they were found in a house in Delaware where
they were actually being starved by the owner cars.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Somebody happened to visit that family and see the dogs.
And we always say, you know, see something, say something.
They actually did. They actually went to the authorities. They
were able to get the dogs turned over to them,
but the dogs were in such poor condition that we
immediately took possession of the dogs and took them straight
to one of our vets. It was probably a three
month rec process to get these dogs back to normal health.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Right. So I'm on my Facebook Live personality page and
I'm showing both of these dogs. Their disposition is wonderful. Great, Now,
what nice dogs?

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You think?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
How can you be so nice after you were treated
so poorly?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:18):
I know, The one thing I love about dogs is
they have the ability to just move forward.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
So, Chris, I do want to bring you into the conversation.
Christopher Oulm right, Yes, so I noticed on Rico's page.
I thought it was so cool because you had a
picture with people there at Rico and you had donated
two thousand dollars.

Speaker 7 (02:36):
Absolutely, yes, So was this just.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Your own money?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Did you just collect money? What made you want to
do this?

Speaker 6 (02:41):
Well, I started, Well, I've lived with a pack of
dogs for the last twenty five years.

Speaker 7 (02:47):
I'm not married and have no kids to my knowledge anyway.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
And except your for babies, that's right.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
That's right, and I can put them in cages with complaining.
But I started my own long care business and one
of the things I always try to do is give
back to the dogs, and so I made a promise
to everybody that donate ten percent of all my sales
to no kills, animal shelters or rescues.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
That's amazing. What's the name of your lawn service company?

Speaker 7 (03:18):
Omega Window. I'm sorry going through a name change.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I didn't have seen that happen for what's the name
of it again, Omega Reliable Services.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Omega reliable services. Okay, what I'll do?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
You do?

Speaker 6 (03:31):
I do lawng care, garden care, clean gutters, clean windows,
and I also repair screens.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
So I take it you expanded your business because you
called the Omega Windows something at first.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
You're doing a little bit more y.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
Yeah, I'm trying to do I'm trying to do the
chores that nobody wants to do around their home.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
And that so many people need done have the ability
or older and can. I love that.

Speaker 6 (03:53):
I also offered ten percent discount to anybody over fifty
five and.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
And anybody who owns a dog.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
That'd be about almost everybody.

Speaker 7 (04:05):
Military veterans.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Oh good for you, Chris. That is awesome when you
come across people like this who just out of the
goodness of their heart wants to donate to your organization,
Rego pet Recovery. What does that mean to you, Marcy?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Oh, you know, it's it's how we keep going right.
You know.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
It's people like Chris and organizations that support us that
allow us to keep moving forward and to take cases
like June and Benny, and to take in litters of
puppies that need medical care. I mean, it's everything to us.
I mean it's those people that donate can actually see
the progress that the animals make with the care and

(04:44):
the with what they give us.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
These two have come a long, long way. Couple questions
for you, first of all, about them. I think it's
probably hard for all of us to hear about a
dog being starved.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
What are conditions? You know?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Are people doing this intentionally? Is it part unintentionally? They
just don't have the money? Like, what do you see when.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
This was this particular case was intentional. I cannot believe
that was intentional.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yeah, why that is a mental health issue.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
We only know the story and.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
The boyfriend apparently the dogs were given to his girlfriend
by the ex boyfriend and he didn't want the dogs.
And like I said, fortunately the young man that came
into the house and saw the dogs didn't let it go.
So but they were charged with multiple counts of animal abuse,
which is a big deal that they actually were able

(05:40):
to get them charged.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Well, penalties in Ohio have been on the rise for
animal cruelty, and they should be right, it really should
make a difference, exactly right. But yeah, mackaylne with you,
what the heck? How can you intentionally starve dogs and
just to have that whole background. How ridiculous. And right now,
I know there's still so many any missing dogs because
of the July fourth celebration fireworks, They run, they get scared.

(06:05):
How many or how much of an increase have you
seen because of that after the fourth?

Speaker 5 (06:09):
So usually, you know, the first three or four days
after the fourth, our calls are increased quite a bit. Well,
a lot of those dogs find their way back home
through you know, just neighbors or you know, the public
finding them and bringing me in. And then the others
is where we kick in and we have to get out,
you know, our cameras and start tracking these dogs down

(06:29):
through you know, other means because they just aren't surfacing
back out into the community. So some dogs are just
too scared and they only come out at night and
they won't come out during the day when when when
they see humans and traffic and things of that nature.
So like again, that's that's how we got started.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
You mentioned cameras. How does that work?

Speaker 5 (06:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, So we have cellular trail cameras that
we actually will place in areas where we have had
sightings for dogs that are lost. If your dog got
lost and somebody says, Hey, you know what, I think
I saw them in my backyard or I think they
ran into my barn. We set cellular trail cameras that
are motion activated. We set bait stations per se, and

(07:08):
then we can kind of track those dogs through cameras
and kind of watch their behaviors and monitor their locations.
And then we have you know, specialized traps that are
custom designed for.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Dogs of this size.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
You know you've seen a raccoon trap right Ours are
big enough for a great Dane.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
So, oh my gosh.

Speaker 5 (07:27):
So we bring in specialized equipment where we can then
trap that dog and take it back home to their family.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Chris, what do you think I mean? You're in here
in the studio. You're like Mikayla. He told us this
is gonna be my fifteen minutes of fame.

Speaker 7 (07:39):
Oh yeah, you're here, You're here, I'm here. I'm in
it right now.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
So we love to give credit to people who care.
And you have a great heart, so you're just going
to keep doing this.

Speaker 7 (07:48):
Absolutely. I give back to dogs because they give so
much to me.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
When I walk home, I'm I'm always welcomed with open
arms and wagging tails, and.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
They give me my joy.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
So, out of all the places you could have donated to,
how and why did you pet? Did you pick Rico
pet Recovery.

Speaker 6 (08:09):
Well, it's been my experience, personal experience that they're very
easy to deal with. You call them, you message them,
they will contact you back. They don't leave you hanging
because they're overfilled. They do everything they can to help,
and they don't charge for this. You know, it's really

(08:30):
a great service that they provide and I support them
all the way. It's hard to They are a great
name here in Columbus, Ohio. They're well known, and it's
hard to get yourself that well known by doing, you know, being.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Just doing your thing right, doing your thing. Well, we
got to get these two adopted. Mikayla, what do you say?

Speaker 4 (08:54):
Yeah, we do.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
So tell us their names again and tell us a
little bit about the mom.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Anddy has them on facepook live.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
So if you go to Ricopetrecovery dot org, you will
see june Bug and Benny.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Which one is which?

Speaker 3 (09:09):
So june Bug is there is the more like a
chalk little like chocolate brown, I would say, kind of,
and then yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
And then Benny is kind of brown and white I
would call him like a chocolate and white june bugs,
more like a mousey gray.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
To Okay, yep, and tell us about their personalities.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
Oh, I mean, as you can see, I mean, they're
they're they're just great dogs. They're just they're they're good
with other dogs, they're good with kids.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
And here's the deal. They spent so much of their
life being starved. This is your chance to step up,
do the right thing, give them a great home, and
show them that not all humans are jerks, because there's
a lot of us out there who have people love dogs.
And I always say, Mikayla, if there's room in your heart,
you can make room in your home. So do you

(09:56):
want these two to go together?

Speaker 5 (09:57):
They do not have to be adopted together. So they
aren' not a bonded pair per se. They do love
each other, but they are not bonded. So we could
in meaning that we can take one of these dogs
out of the room and the other dog will interact
and be just fine with that about them. So okay,
So they do not have to be adopted as a pair.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Okay, And how does adoption? You talked about the website,
but how does adoption work? What if people need to
do to be able to adopt.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
So if you put in your application, we actually just
have to make sure that all of the other pets
in the home have have all their vaccines and up
to date on betting.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
We actually, you know, just look.

Speaker 5 (10:32):
At the family, big picture of the family, right, is
it the right placement for the dog, you know, is
it going to be an environment that they'll they'll do
well in? And then we do some background checks, you know,
just to make sure you know, no history of animal
abuse or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
So got to cross your t's.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And your yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
We're looking for volunteers.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
We're always looking for volunteers who are always looking for fosters.
So you know, I think you probably can see on
Facebook that the need is greater now than ever, where
there's a lot of abandoned.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Litters of puppies.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Shelters are full, there are rescues closing their door right
now because they're a capacity.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Their their donations are down.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
So anytime we can get volunteers, we need fosters, we
need drivers. You know, we have a group of volunteers
where if we have any needs at all, we put
requests out to that group and then we are volunteers.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Just sign up and help us out.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Well, I'm gonna volunteer, yeah, I mean I would do that.
I want to be a driver and help.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Out in retirement.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Do it now we're doing retirement, Mindy, I can totally
see this happening.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
There's no retiring and animal rest. Now there's an abstract.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Well you know what. Thank you McKayla and I thank
you guys so much from the bottom of our hearts
because oh, I always say dog is God spelled backwards.
They are God's greatest, greatest creation. And if we can
find these two homes, then it will be well worth
having you guys in studio. But come back, keep us updated.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
You guys.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Look up Rico pet Recovery and they do a great job.
And Chris, thank you, thank you so much for your donation.

is time, let's bring them all in and it was
great to have you in today.

you need andy handyword work around your yard.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
