Speaker 1 (00:01):
Before we get into our deep conversations on what matters,
We're going straight to the phone lines, which we normally
don't get a chance to do right off the bat.
But apparently Teresa was listening to the show before Deraw
and heard Doctor Cohen and I talking about wanting to
create a softball version of Savannah bananas. How cool would
that be? So, Teresa, do you like that idea? I

(00:22):
love it and it sounds like in coaches the varsity
softball in West Jefferson, and I think the name could
be that's Columbus coconuts. Oh my love cocu, I said,
the Columbus crazes.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
The Columbus Crazies has a ring to it too, But
the Columbus coconuts.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Could really compete.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Against the Savannah bananas.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a great idea, And I can't believe
that it hasn't been done yet because the Savannah bananas
have been around since twenty sixteen and no one has
had the gumption to say, wait a minute, baseball players
can do that. But look how much more fun girl?
Remember this song girls just.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Want to help us want to have fun.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Think of how much fun that would be in sun
It would be so much fun.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Teresa. I think Mindy is onto something. I heard about
this as I was walking in I have done. I
think that there's something here.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I do too. I'm so excited Teresa.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Your need to take the bull by.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
The hornsny, I think you're right, or the bowl by
the coconuts. But there you go, Teresa. If we don't,
somebody else will, and then I'll be like, gosh, darn it.
I knew we should have done that.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Savannah Bananas, don't they tore all over the country.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
It's just two teams. Savannah Bananas plays the party animals.
The yellow team plays the Pink team. They were in
Columbus last year. They were in Cincinnati. This year. You
couldn't get tickets in Columbus. We tried. Yeah, it's a
lottery system. It's a big deal. So yep, we're going
to try to get that thing going. Teresa, thanks for listening.
I hope you continue to listen because Mikayla and I
have so many.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Giveaways today, Oh my gosh, so many giveaway it Christmas
in July.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Oh, I love it. I promoted on my Facebook pages
of Christmas in July. We're giving away so much stuff
to do. Oh my gosh, we have.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
A pair of tickets to picnic with the pops. Is
that right?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
It's a pair.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
We have two family four packs to the Ohio State
Fair which starts on Wednesday, and then it start on Wednesday.
Does we are already at that point of this summer?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
And then we have all kinds of cap of stuff
to give away too, So really keep listening for the
next two hours and hopefully you'll call up and win.
One of the conversations that we're going to ask about
to win those fair tickets is if you've ever had
a son or daughter who graduated from college and then
after college they came back home. They were a boomerang kid.

(02:37):
I was talking to Cammy about that. She's like, what's
a boomerang kid? I'm like you, because she's about to
move back on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
She is, and so we'll have an opportunity.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
So, Chris, are you a boomerang kid?

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, how long when you graduated college and you moved
home with your mom? How long have you were you there?

Speaker 3 (02:54):
So I was there for about six months when then
we got a I got in apart with the old
friend for a year and then I've been back at
home since. But when I moved back, COVID happened the
next year.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Oh yeah, so you're back. You're one of those kids
that you can't get rid of you. You come back
home and you can't you never leave.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well, I'm as from an Italian family, no more.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I never knew that.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Oh yeah, what's your mom's maiden name?

Speaker 3 (03:25):
To Petro.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Family would nope.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
To Petro's. Chris, I never knew that about you, because
I'm half a time. I'm Benedetto to Petro's. They're so
oh my gosh, we got it. We got to talk.
We got to talk, Chris, I was a Boomerang kid.
How long did you move back? I think I was there.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
For about a year or two years.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
It can be a really good thing, and then sometimes
it can be like, okay, alright, already I was a
Boomerange kid as well. But it wasn't an after college.
It was when I because I got a job living
in Lima, yeah, and then in Youngstown, and then when
I got my job here in Columbus, I moved back
home and stayed there until I got married.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Who was asking me about? Somebody asked me today or yesterday. Well,
and we're going to get into all this, so I
won't say too much why Cammy is doing this, and
I think it was Christian and I.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Told him why.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
But we'll talk about it what I think it is
when we get to that segment and conversation.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
But we did bring up the fair and listeners, you
get to win two chances to win family four packs
and Mikayla, you have really cool news to share with
our listeners. Oh yeah about the fair and Christian, please
tell everybody what happened. This is so cool.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah, so many of you know Christian got involved in
four h And sometimes people think four h is just
about you know, livestock, but there's so much more to
four h th just that. And I really do think
it's been so good for his community of friends. Right,
And so he competed in a couple of different things
this past week at the Franklin County Fair which ends
this evening, and he ended up when for public speaking

(05:02):
and he got State Fair selection, and so all of
a sudden, you know, I'm already the State Fair for work.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
It's a big deal for us.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
But we're gonna go again next Sunday morning at nine
am to be there for public speaking for Franklin and
a few other counties are that at nine and they
go throughout the day. All the counties have people coming
for public speaking.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Mikaela was so darn toote. She called me up the
other day to tell me this and she's like, the
way Kristen told her was, Mom, get ready, we're going
to the state Fair and you say something like it
was like, it was like, guess who's going to the
state meeting?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Mom, You're going to need to meet me at the
state That's what he said, because he knows we've been
working on it at work. So yeah, no, it's super
exciting and he is super excited. I love it when
their little brains and their little personalities find something that
they love and that they're good at. So yeah, that
was a really exciting moment.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
I have a really big deal. So I asked Mikayla.
He was giving a speech about something you had to
teach people something, and guess what he chose?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
To teach people how to dance When you can't dance
on the dance floor, I'm not I mean no shot, right.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Like not a shot?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Teach what you know? Right? You know and the kid
knows how to dance, and so that's what he did,
three fail safe moves to make sure. I don't know
if I would do those moves on the dance floor.
I think I'm a little old for them, because like
you were on the floor, like you're doing a coffee
grinder and a cracky demonstrate.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
When he was giving his speech, he had to demonstrate it.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Oh that's I think that's probably what got him over
the top because a lot of other kids had him
power points. You you are allowed in this age group
to use like a powerpointer or a poster. He had
a poster, but he was actually demonstrating it while he
was presenting.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
And he wins. And that's so outside the box. Cool.
So what your kid is dancing and teaching people how
to dance and winning first place and now gets to
represent the county at the state fair. My daughter was
trying to hit home runs with football players. But now
it was a really good It looked like it went
really well.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I just saw one post last night.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
It's just so funny to see her because you have
these two big cardele Jones, former football players and current
football players playing each other in softball and they had
this home run derby. If you remember, my son Kylin
won it two years in a row, and then they
blocked him. They kicked him out. They're like, you can't
come back because we need a football player to win this,
so they always ask a Cammy to be in it
as well. She's the only girl. So all these big

(07:22):
dudes cranking these balls out of Huntington Park and then
Cammy made it to the finals. I think the second
round she hit ten out. I think the round before
it was either twelve or fourteen. And you have a
minute the first round and then forty five seconds, so
she was right in there with the big dogs hitting
them out.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
I was very happy, only girl and ride in there.
How did they make it so easy to hit? I
guess I've not seen a home run derby in person before.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
It's a really good question. They use jacked up balls,
like they use really harder balls that it's easier to
hit them out, And if it was, they don't use
those same balls for the game. Got it?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Okay, that makes a lot more sense.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
I've always wondered, but I didn't know. See home runs right,
it's fun to watch. So they do use a different
core of a ball hit for the home run derby.
But still you're hitting these balls out and it was
cool to watch. She was representing the Ohio States softball team.
Even though she's graduated now and not on the team anymore,
she will always be a Buckeye at heart and she
will always love that program and represent them whenever possible.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
And she started her new job this week, did so.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
We can talk about that coming up in five o'clock hours.
She's very happy, she loves it. Randy and I met
her for lunch on Heartiday. Boomer story, part of the
Boom of Rang story. But we have so much to
talk about today. Four point thirty five is a great story.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, you actually discovered this this week, and you're like, Mikayla,
we got to do this.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, because I love anything dog related and I know
you do too, and most of our listeners they're very
dog friendly people. And I follow Rico pet Recovery on Facebook.
They do amazing things with rescuing dogs, helping them find
new homes. Just that they're all in it for all
the great reasons. So I noticed this post. This man
named Christopher Olm donated and it's not just going to

(09:02):
stop there. He wants to continue to do this. It's
part of an effort just to give back. So many
people get back. Like I said that home run Derby
and Cardill Jones's celebrity softball game was a benefit for
cancer for the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer. And people choose
different people to donate to your organizations. I always love
those who donate to animals because sometimes we have to
speak out for those who can't. Yeah, we do.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
So I can't wait to meet him. I saw their
social media and so I'm looking forward to that story.
We're also going to talk to Open Arms Counseling and
that's later in the show. And this is an interesting topic.
You guys must have been doing something at Spectrum on
teenagers and youth violence. Is there something popping with that
kind of subject matter.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
It's on the rise big time. And it's not just teenagers,
it's youth. It's it's younger than teens that are and
it's not just here in Columbus, but it's across the state. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus.
All of these numbers of violence are just spiking this
summer every.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Time out like gun violence or beyond that.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And everything fighting, gang related activity. Guns, not everything, but
it is exploding this summer in Ohio and I'm sure
in other parts of the country too. So why, you know,
what is going on at home or not going on
at home? What can we do as parents to kind
of put an end of this or communities?

Speaker 2 (10:17):
So we'll talk to Open Arms Counseling in the next
hour about that and the mental health aspect that Mindy
was alluding to. And then Kappa's coming in also, and
whoo lots going on with Kappa.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
What aren't they going to talk about? You know, some's
a great time to go see a Broadway show or
just get involved with the arts.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yes, I was kind of bummed you didn't get to
see Hamilton. I talk with Robert Cooperman about that when
I saw him, but you were on vacation. That was
the end of the current right, they'll start the new
season with You're going to hear about it?

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Yeah, tour in October. Yeah, I have never seen Hamilton.
This would have been one chance because it was right
here Columbus. I would have liked to have seen it.
But the one I was really bummed about that you
got to go to because I was also on I
think a softball weekend, and what the High State was
playing somewhere was the Neil Den timeline, which was wonderful.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
It was excellent. But Kapa always has something amazing, so
they're going to have stuff in store. So a lot,
a lot to happen this next couple of hours. Thanks
for staying with us. We're on Facebook Live too. Get
ready to win some things along the way. This is
