The province is moving ahead with plans for an overpass at Highways 1 and 5 near Carberry, the site of the tragic 2023 bus crash that claimed 17 lives. The design phase starts next year, and the project is expected to cost more than $100 million. Some people are asking why not just install traffic lights, but on a major highway with vehicles moving at 100 km/h, that could create its own risks. I’m no expert, but there’s always an inherent danger any time you drive, especially on highways. If an overpass can make this intersection safer and prevent another tragedy, maybe that’s worth the investment.
