Back in May, Manitoba’s 2025 wildfire season got off to an early and devastating start, burning close to 9,000 square kilometres and fueling countless evacuations. Thousands of residents were uprooted from their homes, and some of them sadly didn’t make it out alive. Thanks in large part to satellite imagery, a new study has uncovered what has fueled such carnage, and there are multiple reasons at play. UOttawa associate professor Hossein Bonakdari is the co-author of this study, which recently appeared in an August edition of Journal Earth. He describes the key findings on CFRA Live.
