As the City of Ottawa addresses the ongoing housing crunch, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is promising a significant shakeup into how today’s homes are being built. On Friday, he unveiled the municipality’s Housing Action Plan, chopping fees and speeding up construction efforts. In other words, he wants to build homes faster, but also make them more affordable. And as the municipality builds upon its LRT roadmap, Sutcliffe is also encouraging developers to get shovels in the ground near transit hubs. Seems like a good plan on paper, but what potential drawbacks should we keep in mind as the crews start digging? Katie Burkholder-Harris is the Executive Director of Alliance To End Homelessness Ottawa. She joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Live.
