The Oxford English Dictionary added some new words last month, and now the U.K.'s SECOND snootiest dictionary has followed suit . . .
Cambridge Dictionary just added "SKIBIDI" to its list of official slang terms. They say they only add words they think have "staying power." (???)
Here are the best words and definitions they've added so far this year . . .
1. Skibidi. They define it as "a word that can have different meanings such as 'cool' or 'bad,' or can be used with no real meaning as a joke." Like, "What the skibidi are you doing" or "That wasn't very skibidi rizz of you." (???)
2. Delulu. Short for "delusional." Believing things that are not real or true, usually because you choose to.
3. Tradwife. Short for "traditional wife." A married woman who stays at home doing cooking, cleaning, and has children she takes care of.
4. Broligarchy. Zuck andMusk are both members. It's a term for tech bros who are extremely powerful, and have or want political influence.
5. D.Y.O.R. Short for "do your own research."
6. Cardboard box index. A way of measuring the health of the economy according to how many cardboard boxes are being produced or shipped.
7. Nanoship. A very short romantic interaction with someone, with no expectation it will lead to a real relationship.
8. Career catfishing. The act of accepting a job offer but then not showing up on your first day.
9. Chronoworking. Adapting your work schedule to when you feel most awake and energetic.
10. Smartphone face. When an actor's face looks too modern for them to be believable in a drama set in the past.
11. Burnt toast theory. The idea that a minor inconvenience . . . like burning your toast in the morning . . . might actually be preventing something worse from happening later in the day. (Y'all are crazy.)
12. Meta face. When photos are enhanced with filters and make everyone look similarly flawless, or unrealistically beautiful.
13. Manterrupting. Interrupting a woman when she's speaking, usually because the man thinks he has something more important to say.
14. Shelaborating. Explaining something in a much more detailed way than is necessary, often making the explanation more confusing.
15. Air jail. The act of lifting a pet into the air to stop or prevent bad behavior.
