(LISTEN) City Of Orillia Warning Residents About This Type Of Scam

Earlier in the afternoon, the city of Aurelia put out
a message letting city residents know about a scam that
has been making the rounds, a text message scam. Yes,
City of Aurelia says watch for text messages pretending to
be from the city of Aurelia. They are aware that
some residents have received these suspicious text messages claiming they

owe money to the city.
And the city of really also says that these messages
often include links. Please don't click them. The city does
not send text messages requesting payments. So if you receive
one of those suspicious messages, you know what to do,
delete that sucker. And if you'd like to learn about

how to actually make a payment for city services, you
can visit the city's website, Aurelia.ca.
Payment methods do vary by facility, they say, but again,
it will never be via text message. So I wanted
to share that info with you because the city shared
that uh on their social media earlier this afternoon. Any

whiff of any scam that happens anywhere in Simcoe County
or in Muskoka, we're gonna talk about it because raising
awareness is the best way we can keep not only
ourselves but our uh family members and friends safe from
these types of scams.
