daytime and the kids don't be sleep, so we gotta give y'all an addition.
Where the children are sleeping, y'allcan just let loose and cut loose,
but yeah, shout them out. Also, you guys know how I
(03:42):
like to do. Let's show someof those TikTok videos and see what's popping?
(04:47):
Okay, that one, that onemade me cry, like the first
two. I had to watch itlike three to five times, but each
time it made me cry. Soready, you gotta appreciate these next TikTok
videos because it's kind of thematic towhat we're going to be discussing about your
film today. So you'll love thesenext ones. But that one just made
(05:12):
me cry. It was so sweetand endearing. Imagine, you know,
randomly at the mall, coming downthe escalator and someone hands you a man
first of all, hands you abouquet of flowers and a note. And
also the fact that they were liketeenagers, young men that probably don't get
to express themselves in that way.And you know, I love the way
(05:32):
God works. I love the waythe universe work. God is the God
of the universe, so I lovethe way it works, you know,
And how just randomly he knew topick this young man to give this beautiful
note to like let it go.And then what was more enduring endearing was
how his you know, his Idon't know if they were his friends or
(05:53):
Frother family, but how they know, how they supported him. Yeah,
and it's interesting when things like thathappen. As you said, God knows
our story from the end to thebeginning. We only know our story from
the beginning to the end as we'regoing through it, right, So when
he places people in your life todo something like that, and it speaks
to you in that moment, youknow, because it was confusion and then
(06:15):
it all hit them. I don'ttalk I could see as he was reading
it. I don't talk about this. I have no one to talk to.
That's right. I'm too embarrassed totalk about it. That. You
just opened the door for me toheal right now in the mall. I
loved it. I loved it.I thought it was sweet. And again,
just other young men was able tocomfort him. They're like, oh,
(06:38):
buddy, like, you know,if we would have known, you
know, I love it. Whodo we have to think for that submission?
Dot roshan Roan shout out to you. I love the content. You
know, keep you know, keepputting that type of content out. We
love that. Who we got next? Tony? She calls me, talk
(07:00):
to her hang up, Jelan said. She they'll call you for everything.
Huh yeah, because she feels likeI saw that. And here's the thing.
This is crazy part, bro.If you're not really in tune with
the dynamic between you or your woman, you would think that it's annoying and
your perspective will be like, yo, it's annoying. She keeps calling me,
(07:20):
asking me for something that I can'tdo nothing about. But then if
you shift your perspective, bro,I look at it like, Yo,
I'm the one person that she's lostthe call for anything. That's a privilege,
bro. Yeah, it's a privilegeto be that for a woman,
you know, and me as aman, I welcome that because how pointless
and worthless would I be if Ihad a woman and she wasn't doing that
(07:42):
for me? He said, Howpointless and worthless would I be if I
wasn't able to really provide that formy woman? Man, that's a perspective
that in this day you don't getto hear a lot coming from the young
especially. Yeah, come on,and they a lot of them have these
(08:03):
podcasts, and it's to me untila lot of other women, it seems
like they get these podcasts just sothey can gripe about women. You know.
So that was very refreshing to me. What would your take on it?
It's a beautiful thing, especially havingsons to hear a man express the
need for men to be accountable towomen, to uplift them, to encourage
(08:26):
them to not exploit any levels ofself esteem or insecurity and to mention as
a man I got you and comingfrom something. I don't know his age,
but he ain't right right right right, you know, he younger,
So to hear him speak on thatat that level, at that age,
hopefully it will resonate among others inhis age and they won't be you know,
(08:50):
tanked by some of the music.Don't speak to that, speak to
that. Yeah. I said toa friend of mine today or no,
a couple of days ago, thatthe disrespect for women or men that disrespect
women, they're a dying breed.Literally. Wow, it's not it's not
as It's not what we put inmusic anymore these days. That's not what
(09:13):
you want to go in the studioand write about. Like, you know,
let's get back on that love frequency. I believe that's why everyone loved
the nineties because we were on acertain frequency, you know what I mean
of love? So yep, andyou know we're gonna be talking about your
family, We're gonna be talking aboutsome of these things. So, like
I said, these these TikTok videosare just a little thematic, you know,
towards what we're going to be talkingabout today. What else we got
(09:33):
Oh, who was that? Tony? Who do we have any nice podcast?
Nice and neat the podcast? Allright, y'all, good job,
good job so far, don't okay, we're watching y'all. Exactly what do
we have next these young boys today? What does she bring to the table?
(09:58):
The hell you mean? Man?What do your ass bring to the
table? You got a woman thatcan come to the table, that can
make another you what else you needsto slide up to the table with?
What about your job? What happenedto men? Who is supposed to be
responsible? Do you know that it'sour job to take care of a woman
and some children, to have afamily. That's our damn job. But
(10:20):
what happens to it when the womantell you I don't need a man's deed?
Well, they need to work.Okay, if you don't how that's
working, you know how that's working. Who don't need no man? I'm
independent, I can do for myself. Yeah, but what do you want
to Yeah, okay, you candrop a transmission, you can say and
blast your house, But hell doyou want to know if somebody could get
(10:43):
out there and drop this transmission foryou and saying blast your house, why
don't you gonna get your nails done. I'm not trying to reduce a woman
to nothing else. Be all youcan be. But damn, who don't
need a man? That's a lie. What man don't need a woman?
I tell you, I'll tell youwhat. I'll tell you what. Try
(11:03):
to live without them. Try tolive your life without women. This ain't
about a lot of dull man. This is some bullshit without women. If
it wasn't for what would you hesaid, if women did not exist,
all the money in the world wouldhave no meaning. Women is everything that
it catch me out. They thelicked man. But these young boys don't
forgot it because these women out herethey trying to be They've had to be
(11:26):
independent because they ain't got the rightman. But this system of marriage is
still good, this system of aman taking care of a woman. That's
really how it's supposed to be.All the rest of us bullshit man,
And y'all need to quit tricking yourselfwith this new way of thinking, because
there's no way to think. Thisnew way of thinking. It ain't getting
y'all no damn where I'm sorry,Yeah, tell us how you really feel?
(11:50):
Right. I like the fact thathe's direct My favorite line was this
system of marriage is still good.Yeah, A lot of us question that,
you know, especially if you've beenthrough some things as it regards marriage.
So I feel like him putting itout there like this, it's still
(12:11):
a good thing. It is.And it's interesting the institution of marriage takes
a hit because in many cases peoplealways looking for the grants. That's screening
on the other side, without givingrespect to the person that's right in front
of them, what they bring tothe table, what you bring to the
table. One interesting thing he saidis what we're going to do in this
world without women? And that's areal thing I tell my sons. Women
(12:35):
are the first teachers of children, you know, even if dad is living
in the crib, even if dadgot a pH d and doing his job,
a woman is still the first teachersteacher, you know what I mean.
And there as a respect level thathas to be given to that.
And there is an understanding and therespecting of yourself as a woman to know
(12:58):
I'm the first teacher. You puttingme down should not put me in a
place where I don't have a beliefin my yes in that, And then
we as men, if a womanhas been put down on any levels,
can continue to keep uplifting and andencouraging. So a great point. And
you know, a woman, Idon't need no man. Why would you
(13:18):
not want a man? Okay exactly, that's the w Yeah, why you
wanted to buy yourself? Exactly? But you know I used to say,
you know, that was another oneof my favorite lines that he said,
because I used to say, well, I know how to take out the
garbage and moller line, but whywho wants to? Like I don't want
to do that for breaking my nailsand all kind of like, right,
right, if we don't want todo it, we're just going to,
(13:39):
right exactly as the man your life, that's right. But I don't think
I just don't want to take up. I'm just going to. I'm going
to. That's wonderful. I thinkwe have one more. Okay, oh
this one. This is a nicemessage and it's uh, it's a message
that's given to us entertainers. Ibelieve I call it the gift. The
(14:00):
gift. Listen, let's hear thisone. And that one was Street Conscious
TV. Oh oh yeah, shoutout to you street Conscious TV. Thank
you. Keep listen, you guys, keep posting this content. We love
it. We love it here.We love showing your content here on twenty
twenty vision. As you guys know, I peruse uh TikTok trying to find
content and I love it when youguys send me videos. Keep doing it,
keep you know, putting them inmy inbox, and I'll keep showing
(14:22):
them here and hopefully we can justhelp each other. But I love it,
So keep doing you all right.Well, it's not your game.
You didn't make the rules, soeverything comes hard. As long as you're
signed to a contract. You're goingto take a minority share of the winnings
(14:43):
so that the few of us willdo well the majority will not, so
as a people will be considered aminority. But stop, let's take a
moment and look at yourself. There'snothing minor about you. You are blessed
(15:07):
people. You're the most talented onearth, and you are still grateful.
That is why upon winning in theirgame, you always thank God. Tonight,
I would like to ask one favor. Imagine what we'll all be like
in our own game. Peace, love for one another. Yay Prince That
(15:35):
was his message today, Like forme, like that was his message.
So I said, well, let'sshare that message. And I think it
speaks to what we're gonna talk abouttoday. Being in your own game,
you know, playing your own game, creating, you know, so we're
here to do we were created tocreate, right, so. And ownership
you know, yeah, I alwaystell people like you know, yeah,
(15:58):
saying you're independent. It's a littlewell, you know, you know,
we get a little kick out ofsaying it, but it's not really that
glorious. It just means you payfor everything, but yet you do own
everything, So you know, what'syour take on it? One thing he
said, you know, being minorities, Like, we're not minor you know,
and that meant something to me.And one philosophy that I have in
life is live your life with passion. You know, wake up every day
(16:22):
ready to enjoy a great day, knowing that it's going to be a great
day, and knowing that you areenough, yes to accomplish whatever it is
you want to accomplish, and youcan accomplish that with faith. And faith
is taking the first step towards yourgoal without seeing the staircase. Ooh,
now, I might take that fromyou. It's definitely going to be adopted
(16:44):
as one of my new philosophies.I'm probably writing on my notes and sticking
on my mirror. Say it onemore time. Faith is taking the first
step towards whatever your goal is.Faith is taking that first step without seeing
the staircase. Oh my god,I love that because I've been trying to
run past the stick. You know, like you know what I mean,
(17:04):
you know, but but I tryto run past it. Oh my god.
You know you guys, you've beenlistening to the one and only Reggie
Gaskins. I'm so proud to havehim here today on our show. He's
a comedian, but he's also acomedic actor, a director, and a
writer. He's also in a doubleACP Image Award nominee. He's been giving
(17:29):
us more than twenty years of histalent and service in the entertainment community.
I love this story, this compellingstory that you're going to hear today,
because he's an example of someone thattook, you know, the bull by
the horns, and he decided tocreate like we love here on twenty twenty
Vision. He just decided to createhis own way, his own path.
He said he wanted to do moviesor be in the movies. He started
(17:52):
creating them. He started writing them. He said he wanted to be on
stages across the world. He madesure that that's where he placed him self.
He woke up every day and sawthe vision that he created for himself,
and he walked in it with theblessings of God. You guys,
give a warm help me give awarm Welcome to Reggie Gaskins. Thank you
(18:18):
very much for yes, yes, yes, Now we'd like to get to
know you all about you. We'regonna definitely talk about your accolades, but
first we want to dig into yourstory. And at the risk of sounding
minor, where are you originally from? I'm from Philadelphia. Yeah, so
(18:41):
growing up in Philly? Did youborn and raised or did you move when
you're you know now, born andraised in North Philly twelfth and master shout
out to North Philly. Went toDobbins Tech. I was Hank Gathers in
Bull Kimball's point guard. Okay,I played basketball at Dobbins Tech. And
I went to west Chester University andcoming up raised by my she raised me
and my brother part of the towncalled Yorktown, which is North Philly.
(19:03):
Great people in Yorktown. I loveYorktown and Philly is a working class town.
So the work ethic that I havecame from growing up in Philly,
where every day it was a grindto go get what you want. You
can either get caught up in alot of things that was going on back
in the day. It was athing called the JBL, which was the
Junior Black Mafia, and drug dealingwas huge back in the day. And
(19:26):
you can either get caught up inthat or you can aspire to do something
different. How can I be better? And my mom wasn't going for it,
you know, good for you.Mom kept me in all kinds of
clubs and everything. I'm like, why am I on a swim team?
I can't swim? To keep youoff the street, You're going to drown
(19:47):
me? Like, look, youcan breathe on the street, Okay.
So she kept me in various clubsand then various things, and it just
taught me a work ethic. Yeah. And but I went to West chest
University major in business first and inmy accounting class, I kept falling asleep,
(20:12):
And I remember one time I fellasleep and the teacher woke me up,
are you sleeping? I was aneat in my eye, you know,
just over to log and I'm like, oh, I want to be
a lawyer, and I fell asleepin law I switched over to psychology.
All your friends want to talk toyou. Then you're like, okay,
because people like to talk to me, like, just major in psychology and
(20:34):
I start majoring that and people wantedto talk to me more. Y'all.
All my nerves talking too much, you know, all these problems. And
I was a little militant, youknow, so I would like to speak
for the Black student Union and don'thave feelings about it. And I did
a play for one of the communicationsmajor, you know, like you're always
(20:56):
speaking and saying stuff. Did aplay. Play was cool. I enjoyed
it, but I wasn't necessarily hooked. Came home. It was the end
of my junior year and my grandfatherwas ill, and so came home to
help my mom take care of mygrandfather. He ultimately passed away. Okay,
so, oh were you by thistime? I'm eighteen eighteen, Okay,
(21:18):
all right, I'm sorry, I'msorry. I'm twenty one, twenty
one. So you have been intocollege for three years? Yeah, okay,
and coming home and I said Okay, I'm taking a semester off and
then go back to college. Okay. During that time off, I would
play basketball, go to work, okay, and I would walk by a
place called Freedom Theater, Freedom Theater, and I would hear them saying,
I hear all this noise, buta lot of singing and a lot of
(21:41):
yelling. Okay, but it's rehearsingplays, you know, But I don't
know. And I'm standing out infront of Freedom Theater. I'm just standing
in the front. And the securityguard came out. What are you doing
out in front? I'm tired ofyou all casing this joint. You're trying,
you're trying case this joint, drawingRoberts. I'm gonna kill you,
you know. Wow, Okay, because he didn't. Yeah, I'm literally
standing there like a stalker, youknow. And either come in or get
(22:06):
out. And I went in,signed up for a class and been hooked
ever since. He said either comein or get out or get out,
and you opted to come in.I went in and had to take you
had to take acting, singing anddance. Okay, Okay, I'm cool
with the acting, right right.I ain't no singer, but I'm a
(22:29):
I'm a Luther Vandros fan. Letme see what I see what you can
do? Right, But when theycame to the dancing. Now, back
in the day, I did mylittle you know, pop locking and all
that stuff. You know. Iwas a DJ, you know, with
my crew. It was a DJin the dancer, you know. And
I used to wear the spikes andeverything, and we had our gear like
(22:51):
Beach Street. In this dance class, they had us put on leotards.
I don't know what kind of dancing. This my not working for me,
right, You realize I played ballin North Philly. Playing with me right
now, Why y'all got me?I don't be whistling. I'm tainted by
(23:11):
that whistle because I heard it afew times. It made me nervous in
my life. I still jump whenI heard it. You ain't trying to
get jumped on the way home fromthe right. I got no beef.
If you're a man that like aman in leotards, no beef do your
thing. That's just not for you, right, you know. But we
had to do it. We hadto learn classical dance, jazz, African
(23:33):
dancing, and it helped me becauseI never stretched you know. Even I
was an athlete, played down stretchingit. Just give me the ball,
Let me shoot a couple of Direcs. Right. Even when we run track,
I do the hurdle. Stretch, okay, can we run now?
Dance? You got to stretched andit helped, you know. I had
(23:55):
heard of it when I was akid, But now that I'm older,
now I know what it is.I have a good sciatica. Now what
because I stretched when I was twentytwo years is great that I got a
great Let me tell you all littleyoung boys right now, stretch your psiatica.
Now, it'll bless you twenty yearsto tell you what I know.
(24:17):
You know lessons right, and fromthat and from Freedom Freedom Theater, it
honed every aspect of discipline for thearts. Yes, that I had that
came from Freedom Theater. My firstteacher was h Jermy Wilson and Johnny Hobbs
were my first two teachers. Andit honed the discipline needed to be in
(24:41):
the entertainment industry. And I amthankful for that, yes, yes,
And we're grateful that you came andshared it with us. When did you
actually come to Hollywood, LA?When did you get here? I came
out here in ninety seven. Okay, I didn't want to go wow.
I was doing theater in Philly andNew York. That's all I wanted to
do. I didn't want to befamous. I didn't want to be a
(25:02):
star. I had so much respectfor the craft, that's what they talked.
And I had understudied for fences, that two trains, running my Brainy's
black bottom piano lesson, you know, sophisticated gents, all these deals,
and it wasn't about fame. Itwas about the art being you know,
(25:22):
the craft. My mom was like, I don't know if you want to
be famous or not, but youneed to get out of my house and
pay your rent. You know.I don't even know about this day or
stuff, taking care of the dad. The jig was up. It was
like yeah, you know, andI moved, I mean moved out of
seventeen, came home for that oneyear, but then I moved out again,
you know, and support myself withmy day job. But I loved
(25:44):
acting so much and in Philly.Philly was rough. I don't know actor
ready Joe and I say that Phillywas rough. And my mom raised us
right, you know it was stilla rough town, and I knew.
I was like, if I don'tleave Philly soon, I feel like I'm
gonna die in a hail of bullets. That's how I felt. And I
had wrote a play called we CanDo This and two of my actors that
(26:07):
were in the play had moved tol A. They caught the bug out
of here. You know, theywere from Westville. They're like, you
know, caught the bud. Theymoved to la And he's like, Red,
you got to come to l A. Don't want to. I don't
want to do all. You know, everybody know they want to be stars,
famous, that's what we do.You're not about the craft. I've
seen certain television shows and I canhelp circles around these people. I'm not
(26:30):
going you know one of those Yes, that was one of those people.
And they said, I'm trying totell you you need to come out here.
And I came out here on amission. I was like, all
right, I'm coming out. I'mgonna write because I started writing plays.
Okay, wrote a play, I'dwrite a movie, come out cast my
movie, and that's that's what it'sgoing to be about. So all this
time I thought it was the comedyfirst that played into the acting. But
(26:52):
you're actually an an actor first andthen a writer and obviously a director.
And in his comedy, is itthe last thing on the bility or it
was take the story? Yeah?Yeah, who told you you was funny?
Here we go. Let me movethis mic here talk about here.
I came out here on the mission, wrote there's a dramatic movie too,
(27:15):
right, drama, you know, intense moments, and I'm pushing that.
I'm trying to, you know, work. I found the church first thing.
I was like, I gotta finda church when I got out here,
you know, went to Bishop Blake'schurch. But if you weren't on
the guest list, you couldn't getin Bishop Blake, Yeah, he had
it going on West. What washe driving? I don't know. I
(27:37):
couldn't get on the guest list.I couldn't get in. You know,
you couldn't get in West angels back. You had to you had to be
in the line, like brot know. But I ended up at Bishop Mclinton's
church church at the Harvest. Foundmy church. Now I'm right going after
all this stuff, auditioning on andon, getting an agent, getting manage
them Okay, now we're going Myagency is wretch. You're a funny guy.
(28:03):
No, No, I'm not notreally funny at all what you talk
about. You know, I'm fromNorthfiler. You know I'm against an easter
exactly. And even when I saidthat, he starts laughing. He's like,
see that's funny. No, it'snot, dude, I'm not funny.
He said, you should do standup and I can get you more
auditions. Wow, why I needto stand up to get more auditions?
(28:27):
Do better at your job? Right, you should be able to get me
a job, whether audition, whetherI'm sitting down or standing, you know.
And I was totally against it.And I used to hang out.
I played ball just way back inthe day, but little teams, and
I played on the team with KevinHart, God Rested Soul, my boy,
David Arnold, you know, shoutout to Chris Spencer, Corey Houlkom,
(28:49):
Yeah, all of them. Yeahright. And I went to groundings
in Second City. So I haveimprov background. So I'm doing sketches stuff,
but I still want drama. Manjust says I can get you auditions
if you do stand up. I'magainst it. I book a show with
Earthquake niece, Nash and Ricky Smile. Okay, you booked like you from
(29:11):
no Comedian to the Legends. That'sit just happened. Yeah, okay,
I'll back up. I got married. I gave up acting. Acting life
out here was so hard. Itest you on those dreams. I gave
it up and all I would dowas playball and go to church. That
was it. Met my wife,We get married. She's auditioning the actress
(29:33):
in the model. I'm not goingto tell you all. Y'all know who
she is if you know me,but I'm not gonna tell your name because
you know who she is. Letme keep your name out of it.
But two auditions for this thing, right, she auditions for a show,
and you know how they have youneed male auditions they need so they'll have
(29:55):
male actors audition with the women. They didn't have enough men. And the
the casting director said, do youyou know, do you think your husband
would mind auditioning? Like, okay, I auditioned, booked a part.
It became this huge ABC pilot thatbecame huge. I mean it was this
thing was major and from that, you know, I got what I c
(30:18):
M and a great manager, andso now I'm in the circuit. And
that's how I booked the shows. It was called The Job. It was
the television version of the Kings ofComedy. Wow. It was a sketch
comedy show. Wow. And I'mstill against doing stand up. I'll do
sketch because to me, that's stillacting. A friend of mine named Earthquake
(30:40):
says, because I'm telling you thestory, and he's like, wait,
wait, wait, your manager wantsyou to do stand up so he can
get you more jobs. I said, yeah, I don't want to do
stand up class Quake fences, dude, Victoria, look at two trains running.
Look, you know, I dothe real thing. He was like,
I don't give a damn about allthat. He said, Nigga,
(31:02):
if they want to pay you tobe funny, okay, be funny.
And that's when it cleared. Iwas like, you are a genius.
Quake, You're a genius because itnever crossed my money. And you know,
that's what I like about your story. You're just stumbling into it,
and you know you know that that'sto me, that's an indicative of the
(31:25):
God. I know, like Godis always setting you up and exactly and
spirit thinks it's so funny, likehahha, watched this, you know what
I mean. But you just happenedto walk past a theater called Freedom Theater,
like here's God to say, here'syour freedom, right now, here's
your ticket to freedom. And thenthis old, gruffy old man come out
and threaten you, threaten your life. Pretty much life had to be threatened
(31:48):
to walk in there. But that'show Philly was ain't playing. Then you
get here and you know, likeit's almost like they're holding up these big
cards, these big Q cars sayinghey, go this way, go this
way. You're fighting it to theNAT fight like Jon on the boat,
Like I'm not getting off the boatuntil God saves me. But I sent
you away, sent you a ship, and sent you these things, and
(32:12):
you sent all this stuff. Ithought it came from Fred. No,
I ain't come from Fred. I'mGod, you know exactly. I'm fighting
it and the most simplest thing,I want to pay you to be funny,
be funny. And from then andI still didn't. I would.
I started doing stand up, butI still would stay grounded in acting,
(32:34):
you know. And then that whenI learned Meisner and began to teach Meisner,
I got even more grounded. Okay, but it helped me with acting
stand up because there's always there's alot of comedy in the drama you go
through. Anybody that's getting evicted rightnow, I guarantee you were going through
an eviction. We didn't mean tolaugh at you, but when you tell
(32:55):
us the story of how you're gettingevicted, were gonna be cracking out sometime.
I'm sorry. Is somebody going througha divorce right now? It's a
painful things, But when you tellus the story how you got to this
divorce, I was like, dude, I'm so sorry, but that's fun.
That's hilarious. Can I take thatto the stage. Well, speaking
of that, we're going, well, no, not that one yet.
What we want to do is wewant to highlight your film, your new
(33:19):
film. Yes, yes, yes, yes called yes yes yes, And
and when we come back, wewant to get into the writing. And
you got it, you know, got into doing the writing and directing and
things of that nature. But let'sshow uh first, show them your pilot
for your new film that's out ont B. Right now, there we
go. Do you believe that aperson should tell their future spouse everything about
(33:46):
themselves before marriage. Why are youbeing so dramatic? Dramatic you want to
see dramatic, I'll show you dramaticnow. I don't want to know everything
about my dude because people can't handlethe truth. Yes, you should tell
everything about yourself. When I wouldn'tmarry some fool if I thought he would
lie to me, so you wouldn'thave been upset. I would have been
(34:09):
upset, but I wouldn't have walkedout. So I want to know everything,
how many men, how many times, how many different places? Everything.
I'm checking everybody out before I getmarried because I don't want to have
to mortgage our house to get hisbrother out of prison. And then you
(34:30):
wait till the day before I wantedto tell me. Really, what's the
point of being honest with women ifthey can't handle the truth? Monica,
you're the only woman I ever toldbecause I believe you. Yeah, I
mean, I didn't even know that. There was just too much information for
me. Wow, by y'all.Yes, So to me a little bit
(35:00):
about the inspiration to write this film. Okay, here we go, t
M. I started a teacher actingclass and I write scenes for my students.
Tm I started as a scene thatI wrote for my acting students,
and it was a scene of conflict, you know, and as a writer,
I learned how to write and thankgod the WG strike is over.
(35:24):
But as a writer, you're writingconflict and how do you play that conflict?
And so as they were performing thatscene, I was like, this
is really good. Let me takeit further. So I took it further
and put it into a script formand you know, giving the characters,
the dynamics, the controversy what shouldsomeone do? Should I do this?
(35:47):
Should I do that? Not dothat? Should I tell this? Should
I not? And it just evolved, evolved and evolved. Did a table
reading for it, and at thetable read, and it was, you
know, it was funny in it. You know, there was moments of
comedy. There was moments where it'slike, oh wow, that's like that's
deep. It's a deep subject matter. And then it posed the question.
(36:10):
After the table read, there wasabout a two hour conversation amongst the actors
and some people that were there.Should you tell your future spouse everything about
yourself before you get married? Yeah? I remember that question. And during
the table read, I'm just sittinghere listening. At this point, a
friend of mine task he said, rech you gotta hit you gotta shoot this,
(36:30):
wow. And I was like,I don't have no money to shoot
that. I barely had enough moneyto make the last trying to recoup from
that. He's like, you haveto shoot this. You gotta figure it
out. It's gonna come. Andthe blessing of Cloudy Blue Sky's her name
is Silver, executive producer and shecame on board Red the script came on
board, and between she and Iwe financed it and got it shot.
(36:53):
But you know, I wish Ihad bigger production value. It's gonna come.
But I never believe in waiting becausehe was like, wait till you
get the money. Wait. AndI don't believe there's ever a time to
wait for anything anything. Do youknow if you if you have the opportunity
to do and the opportunity to presentitself. And that took a long time,
(37:14):
about almost a year when that opportunitypresented itself. So I'm not gonna
wait. I'm gonna get it done, get it done now. And it's
been streaming on to be folk havebeen enjoying it. So as we continue
to talk, I want y'all toponder this question. Would you tell your
future spouse every little thing about yourselfbefore you get married, all the little
(37:35):
things you did, your little fetishes. You're gonna tell your future spouse that,
or you're gonna hold it in asa secret. Yes, yeah,
you proposed that question to me too. I mean, I would like to
think, like, if I thinkabout who I think I am, I
would like to think that I'm theperson that's can you know, just be
(37:59):
one hundred percent honest and wouldn't haveany problem with it. But experience is
a good teacher, you know, you know, And so I feel like
some things that I was so openand revealing about kind of been used against
me in certain relationships. And that'shappened, you know. And so now
(38:20):
I was like, I don't know, somewhere in the Bible doesn't say you
never let your left hand or whatyour right hand is doing. All the
Bible. The Bible says don't letthe love hand know what the right hand
doing. So if I'm not lettingmy own body know what's doing, I'm
definitely ain't telling you anything. Butit's an interesting thing, you know,
(38:45):
I clown. I call it.I call it the Deacon Jones theory.
Deacon Jones. Okay, there's acouple of Deacon Jones out there. Deacon
Jones, beautiful man, deacon ofthe church, about to marry his intended
But Deacon Jones like beautiful big blackwomen. Always had got gotta fetish for
beautiful, big black women as soonas they walk by, smelling like hot
(39:05):
dog water. Deacon Jones can't handlehimself. To the point, Deacon Jones
go to the strip club on thesecond Sunday, not the first Sunday,
but the second Sunday every month. He got to go to the strip club,
get a lap dance from that big, beautiful black woman. But don't
nobody know about it? To DeaconJones live in Inglewood. He go to
strip club in Calabasas. Oh mygod, don't nobody know about this?
(39:29):
He go to the Boogie Street. Now, I don't nobody know Dacon Jones
out there, you know, ButDeacon Jones, you're gonna tell your wife
about this fetish that you got.Should he tell them? You know,
right? Because will you marry anddon't give it up? He don't,
you know, he can't give upthe fetish. But nobody know he going
to Calabasas. They just think you'regoing to prayer meeting. You know,
(39:50):
should he tell her? You know, he's one for the wives. There
was a time in college was thedead girl, you know, and the
football team run like you and you'relike, I can't sleep with the whole
team, but I can sleep withthe offense. See the whole offense,
don't come. I mean, youknow it was one time. You're young.
It's like little experiment, one time. They never did it again ever.
(40:15):
Never you tell that. I don'tthink you tell that when you were
sixteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, you know, you're in college,
you know, I don't think wouldyou tell that? You know, should
you tell it? You're gonna breaksome man's like, you know, I
think that many of you guys Eaglesare very fragile, even more fragile than
(40:35):
ours. Wow, Okay, I'mlooking around, like who said that?
I'll yeah, I do, Ido. Huh And same could be for
a man. You know, whatif you was one of the dudes,
right and before you marry your wife, are you going to tell her that
(40:58):
you was on the offense and youwere one of six dudes just slept with
a woman, You're about to doit? Should he tell her as a
woman, would you want to know? Like how much information is too much?
Where you say to your man?Because I did not need to know
that, because I feel like, just as much as you think a woman
(41:20):
is a whore for doing certain things, I have those same rules for a
man me personally, I have thosesame rules for a man. So I
would probably be a little disgusted ifI knew that this man took participating in
taking turns on having sex with oneright with one woman. I was like
(41:42):
it, So you sharing with yourhomeboy, like at the end of the
day, have you seen what heeat? Have you seen what he do
with his hands? Have you seenwho he been with? Me? And
you're okay with all that, Buthere's the thing, check this out.
Here's the thing. It happened whenhe was eighteen years old. He's forty
now, tell me done it?Since he got to tell me that that
was maybe experience he wanted to have. And you know, after that,
(42:06):
he was good as long as hedon't have to see that was eighteen and
he's for you as long as hedidn't do it like repeat those actions throughout
his ok here's a question. Ifhe didn't tell you about the first time,
why would he tell you about thesecond or the third? Now that's
a that's a mess right there.That is a mess right there. This
rabbite Holk gets deeper and deeper anddeeper. I want to I do want
(42:27):
to show that. I want toshow off the cast members. Yes,
your new film. Oh my god, I went and we're going to show
them and you can you can talkto me about each one of them,
okay, as they had pictures popup. Yes, let me go and
tell you about Jacqueline Fleming. JaquelineFleming is a great actress, y'all know.
Y'all know Jacqueline Fleming business business fora minute. Y'all might remember her
from the movie with Bernie Mack andOh Mister three thousand right and and and
(42:52):
Love Jones. She played the otherlove interest to the Wren's take when Nia
long, Oh you with her? Now, so Jack and she came with
it when you watch the feeling likeJaqueline came with it. The ladies,
y'all know who Aaron D. Spearsis. Y'all looking at the picture like
right now, like, let's talkabout him. I don't care about Jacklins.
I mean, let's talk about Aaron. You know, Jacqueline was for
(43:12):
the fellas you know and all theThesbians who respect actors. Aaron D.
Spears is a consummate professional. Itwas great to work with Aaron. When
I speak of someone who's prepared, who's diligent, who is giving, like
he's giving of himself to a director, you know, and I come up
with ideas on the spot, likeAaron, let's try this. He's like,
(43:34):
let's do it, let's try that, where some actors are like,
I don't know if I could dothat. Aaron was very open and I
appreciate that. Angelia Smalls is anew actress to me. I did not
know anything about her the audition. She came with it. She brought something
to the table that other actresses didnot by exploring, by experimenting, let
me try this, show me somethingas a writer director that I didn't even
(43:59):
know that that character had, youknow, and she did that that's our
main cast and they came with it. Wow wow wow, Yeah, I
thought so. Her name is Angelina, said again, Angelia Smalls. Angelia
Smalls so we thought maybe it wasporsia from one of the oh yeah,
yeah yeah, from a like okayAngelia, small man. Mister Fitzgerald is
(44:23):
hilarious. This dude, he tooka lot of people. I did n't
think a lot that's improv I wrotea lout of that, all right.
He took those lines and made itseem like this is all improv Wow.
Then I said, you know what, do what you do? You know?
And he came up with some stuffoff the top of the dome.
(44:44):
I was like, this dude ishilarious, you know, mister Fitzgerald,
look out for He's a great dude. Yes, Yes, Danielle Nicole watched
Philly in the House, right. She and I tore the acting class together.
Another consummate professional. When I say, in terms of prepared ring a
character, building a character, developinga character, that's exactly what she's very
(45:05):
capable of doing. Y'all need toholler at her. She came with it,
shout out, Danielle, don't knowwell the Philly, right, And
I didn't know even from Philly, you know, until afterwards. That's how
life goes though. Everything comes toyou right there exactly. Dawn did not
sing another. The one thing aboutall the cast is that everybody came in
(45:30):
very professional, but they brought somethingto the table that set themselves apart.
And Dawn knows how to do that. She set herself apart in the way
she was going to play her character. Okay, all right, what else,
Lucia? Okay, So when youspeak of someone that understands comedy that
(45:51):
you would not think is a comedicactress, when you meet her, you
don't think comedy at all. Whenyou have a conversation with her, you're
not thinking comedy. You know, you're thinking, she about to help me
get my taxi straight. She's very, very man She started doing these lunes.
We was cracking up. This chickis hilarious, you know, and
(46:12):
was able to take the script runwith it. She she she's a mom,
you know. And her boyfriend's famousby the way, I forget who
he is, but everybody knows aboyfriend. But she came with it.
Was It was great working with her. My boy Al Whitley, so al
Ol, I'm I've been friends withover twenty some years. Al Whitley is
(46:37):
one of those actors who says,I can give you what you need.
One take all right, come onin and we did the one take and
I had it. I was like, you gave it you for real?
You know. I said, let'sdo another one for play and he was
very oldly like, sure, wecan give you another one. I said,
Doude, something different got you completelydifferent, came with it. This
(46:59):
is one of the most pfessional actorsyou'll ever want to meet them. He's
serious, serious about it. KendallMcCrae. So, Kendall McCrae stars in
my film Our Christmas Love Story. She carries the film. This is a
wonderful actress that the moment she whenyou look at the screen, you're like,
(47:19):
God, I can't stop looking atthat, you know, And it's
like watch her act stop looking ather. When she begins to speak in
character, you are mesmerized by thecharacter. It's no longer about the looks
beautiful. She can take the characterand say, focus on what I'm going
through, focus on what I'm feeling, what I'm talking about. And that's
(47:40):
what makes a great Meryl Streep hasthat Angel Bassett has that when they speak,
you're invested in what they're talking about. As an actress, that's what
Kendall does no joke. Shout outkindle Kenda McCray. Elliott was It's hilarious
everything. The only it was yeah, okay, and he took my lines
(48:05):
and he said, reg can Iplay? I was like, dude,
I'm the king of play. Okay, That's what I do. I play
all the time to have fun withit. This boy went off with the
and his quick wittedness. This isone of the most quick witted actors that
I've ever worked with. And thisdude is hilarious. Y'all gotta watch just
to see him do the question andanswers with the with the it's a psychology
(48:29):
room, you know, he's interviewingpeople. Y'all gotta watch him just for
this. This dude is hilarious.Y'all gonna love it. Yes, shout
out to all of the wonderful actorsthat has gracial stage and been on film
with you and shot the Thank you. Thank you for expressing them on your
on here on this show. Reallyquick, do we have any chatters anybody
(48:52):
saying anything? I did see someoneon YouTube saying great show, Reggie,
love you. Who Jeff I'll justsay hey because I can't pronounce his last
name. Thank you, Jeff, appreciate you, bruh. Behind the behind
(49:12):
the scenes on Instagram that we haveGeno music checking in, Ice, Baby
Sellers, Poor Shout Lout Something, the Baby j Pablo, all of these
people, they're just chiming in andsending love. It's a lot of them.
Oh, thank you guys for youknow, chiming in. T J.
Jones, Thank you guys. Thankyou guys. You guys are always
(49:32):
watching. Who is this? Seven? One four, Cali Boy, MJ,
the Real Tyrone. Yeah, wejust got you know, everybody's chiming
in. Say hello to the peepost. Hey, well, did you
tell your future spouse everything about yourselfbefore you get that's my question. Okay,
okay, I have a quick game, really quick because I still want
(49:55):
time to show a little bit ofyour comedy. So but I have a
quick game really quick. Uh namethat comedian? It's basically who line is
this? Right? So I'm gonnagive you I know there's probably one hard
one, definitely one easier one,and one might be you know hard,
Okay, all right, mee meokay. So the first one is what
(50:20):
have you done for me lately?I can't say. The rest is that
that's that's my cat? Is thatcat? Oh, my gyp. You
gotta dig. See, this isthe only hardest one. You gotta dig,
like backing your comedy archives. Sohe's one of the greatest that ever
did it Richard close? If Isay that, if I say the whole
(50:45):
line, it includes his name.Okay, so are your hint? So
he was talking about getting a womanfrom Africa and wait and you bring her
over and she get Americanized, andin turn it went from Google too.
What have you done for me lately? Right? I can't think of the
name. I couldn't. I knewit and I saw it, and I
(51:10):
was like, I was thinking ofeither Eddie or oh, that's my man
that passed away baby's kids. Oh, I can't even think of his name
either, just because you said it. But I know you're talking about dang.
Yeah. Okay, real quick, another one. Oh she knew it
on here? Okay, this isthe easiest one you're gonna have, all
(51:32):
right, all right, all right, come on, that's Kevin. Yeah,
so long, I thought you saidthat was your good friends. Interesting
As a comedian, I don't alwayswatch I watched certain communities, but I
don't always watch too much. Youknow, classic lines. Yeah, but
those were a classic. I'm hopingto get to a point where I have
a classic. I have a showcoming up for anybody in l A tomorrow
(51:55):

I got you back. Sit backand enjoy the rath. There we go,
There we go, I got yourback. Okay, and then the
last one. See, come on, you gotta get this one. This
is also a classic. Okay, around here we call it a twenty twin
(52:16):
twin nigga. No, you saidit earlier. You actually said this is
your hint. You said his nameearlier. No, No, you didn't
say his name earlier. You didn't, You didn't. I don't know.
It's from the classic movie Friday MikeUh before him, before Mike Gap.
(52:43):
It was a between him and Bertiemac Yes, in the covey. I
was stuck on sketch instead up.Okay, we're gonna get to what's next
for you and where they can seeyou at. But first, let's show
that little clip of his comedy.I want them to know what they're coming
to see. What clip is tendsand I appreciate father did cause my mom
(53:07):
raised me and she was both motherand father. M she was, you
know, and a lot of womenunderstand that, you know. And I
thought my mom growing up though,I really thought she was a functioning space
of friend because she had to playfor pro So if I fell down and
hurt myself, you know, she'slike, oh you okay? Do you
want me to bandage it up?And I'm like, yeah, it hurts
(53:28):
a little bit. What you meanit hurt a little bit and you better
suck it up, little nigga.Did you just call me a little nigga?
That's why you hurt me? Getit get up? My bone is
sticking out up a little bone. You want something to cry about? I
(53:50):
already got something to cry about. My bone is Why don't you want to
say that? The kids do youwant something to cry about? Why don't
we say that? They already praying? Obviously it was something like crying out.
No. You know, my momfrom North Villa, you know,
(54:16):
rough town, you know, andin my neighborhood. You couldn't be seeing
there's no pomp. So something godown. You gotta stand up for yourself,
you know. So one dude,I one day I'm playing walk out
into a little scuff for the dude. You know, he stepped to me
and you know what it is,and he stepped to me and stepped to
him and like an ultimate lighting fromthe sky. My mom just jumped right
(54:36):
in the middle, like really, how did you come from? And she's
like, hey, you step intomy son. And I'm like, Mom,
you can't do this. She's like, step up. I'm on the
ground. Just got beat up bymy mom. Dude that wants to beat
me you and I'm not supposed tobe. So that's true story too.
(55:05):
We love it. We love it. You make us laugh out loud.
So tell the people now what's next? Where you're gonna be and let me
see you? So what's coming upnext? Friday night? Tomorrow night,
I will be in Marina Delay theMarina Delray Comedy Club forty two eleven Admiralty
Way on their eight o'clock show. And then Saturday night, I got two

weekend, we got laughs. Andif you could show his imd IMDb page
so that they'll know where to gocheck them out and get more information about
him, Can I say one thing? Sure? Here we go. I
(55:50):
have a new television pilot that Iwrote, okay right. It's called Commandment
X okay, which is the tenthCommandment show, not COVID okay, and
it's basically about what happens when youcheat? Okay right. I am in
the process of trying to raise fundsto shoot this podcast. Yes, So
if you know any investors, seriousinvestors that work with a serious filmmaker,
(56:14):
as you can say, I havefilms right now on TB, I have
a film on Peacock, I havea film on Apple TV and a film
on Amazon. So we're done.Because we're done. Yep, our Christmas
Love Story and the line truth.Okay, this project is a series that
will be great. I would loveto speak to someone that can help an
(56:35):
African American filmmaker continue to tell greatstories. That's all right, give them
a handclap for that, Tony.We put out the call, you know,
and everything manifests has a way ofmanifesting on this show, So you
just say it or you name it, you claim it on this show and
before you you're in it. Sothank you, thank you for that.
(56:55):
While we're showing your IMD page, what we would like you to do is
leave us with some last comments, anything that you have as encouragement, advice
or someone that wanted to take therole to success like you have. Just
what would you tell the people? We have people on Facebook, YouTube and
Twitter listening. This is the people. This is what I would say,
(57:16):
and I say this to my kids. Life is a war between those who
want it and those who want itmore. And you got to ask yourself
every day, how bad do Iwant it? So you got to identify
what it is that you want, and then you got to wake up every
day and put everything you have intogoing after what you want. Yes,
(57:39):
because you don't want your day toend and you're still full with energy to
go after what you want. Comeon, you should go to bed at
the end of the day. I'mdying, I'm sleepy. I really went
after it today and tomorrow I'm ango after it again, you know.
And that's everything from career, family, friends. How good of a friend
(58:02):
are you? How good of aboyfriend? Are you? And how bad
do you want to be a goodfriend, a good husband, a good
a good father, a good actor, writer, a good accountant? You
know, well, I'm sure there'ssome accountant's watching, you know what I
mean? Listen, no dish? How good do you want to be at
driving the bus? I know thatPrius is on your nerves. It's like
I got to get to this stop. I'm the bus driving this damn Prius
(58:23):
is taken too long. But howgood do you want to be at the
bus driver? You're gonna have alittle patience and you're gonna get fired running
over the prias. Yes, butask yourself, how bad do I want
it? That's right? That's right? Where's the live by? Also?
Can you give them your handles wherethey can get a hold of you at
everything is Reggie Gascons on Facebook,X and Instagram and even what's that Reggie
(58:50):
Gascons at Reggie Gaskins on all ofthem. Please come through, check me
out, come to my page, you know, like a couple of stuff,
and we'll go from here and havesome fun. Yeah, yes,
you know, it has been apleasure having you here. I tried to
