With the historic opening round in the books and Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas and Ohio State advancing we're back to look over the quarterfinals and make some underdog picks on the newest "3 Dog Thursday!"

Host T.J. Rives returns with guest Jason Powers of the "Powers on Sports Podcast" to go over what they thought of last week and look ahead to the Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowl battles this week.

Who really likes Boise State as the double digit pooch with Penn State in Arizona New Year's Eve? Which predictor takes the Sun Devils of ASU and their large points with Texas in Atlanta New Year's Day afternoon? And, do the boys like either Oregon or Notre Dame as the short hounds with Ohio State or Georgia in Pasadena and New Orleans?

The guys also wonder about Colorado and their stars Travis Hunter and Shaduer Sanders playing BYU in the Alamo Bowl? And, how will Alabama and Michigan fare in the Reliaquest Bowl for Tuesday in Tampa?

T.J. and Jason go over it all on our audio pod via Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc. and make sure to see the video on the Winning Cures Everything platform on Youtube!

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Football fans, it's time to go on the record with
this week's matchups in pro and college football. With just
one catch. We're only interested in underdog who can keep
it close, if not pull the outright upset. Time to
find out. It's three Dog Thursday. Now here's your host,

(00:27):
tj Reeve.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
All right, folks, welcome in. It is the latest edition
of three Dog Thursday on the Winning Cures Everything platforms.
I am the somewhat competent host post Christmas, tj Reeves Again,
Gary Seeker is getting a well deserved break to be
with the fam during Christmas week. Hello, Jason Powers of
the Powers on Sports podcast. Good to be with you,

(00:51):
my Tampa Bay brother from another mother. We're both right
here in West central Florida, but we're ready to handicamp
away in specific the College foot All playoff quarterfinals and
much more. Did you get enough to eat? Enough presents?
Is all good? My friend?

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Happy Merry Christmas. Happy Hanaka to our audience members and
for you TJ Reeves. Courtesy of my sister who I
know you know, The Iron Chic a shirt has a
present from my sister of the Iron sheet Good.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I love it From the eighties wrestling. Yes, it's all
it's all good here on the program. Listen. I love
breaking it down with you on all fronts. We're going
college football Playoff specific again. Thank you for finding us.
We cohabitate, we hang out, we sleep on the sofa,
if you will. Of Winning cures everything, the platform, Winning

(01:45):
cures everything dot com and the YouTube page, and we
have loved doing this throughout the college football season. We
have now narrowed down to eight teams remaining for the
college football Playoff. Just a thought from you. I've set
a bunch and I know you have your own powers
on sports podcast where you've said some stuff about the
college football Playoff. Right, So, we've had four home games

(02:08):
for Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas, and Ohio State, four
games in which Jason the visiting team, trailed by twenty
one or more at least at one point in the game.
At least Clemson sort of made it a game at
the end in Austin. But that's the only one that
was sort of a game. That's me saying all that.
What are your thoughts now that we've made history. We've

(02:30):
expanded the playoff to twelve teams. We've had four home
site games. What are your thoughts to get to this point?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Yeah, I mean I don't think there was any surprises.
Maybe a couple of surprises how big the margin was.
But I think most people probably thought those four teams
were going to win, you know, a little surprised how
Tennessee didn't put up a little more of a fight
at Ohio State. Give Clemson credit, they hung in there
at Texas that again they were behind the whole game,
but hung in there. A little disappointed in SMU Indiana.

(02:56):
But if you really looked at the if you really
looked at the x's and o's, those teams are outmanned
and outmatched. I think, in given the weather, in the circumstances,
not too surprising. You know, I think the committee will
make some changes to how they format this a little bit.
Maybe you don't guarantee a team like boys in Arizona
State a top four seed. Maybe you guarantee them a
home game which will make them a top eight seed potentially,

(03:18):
maybe in tweak some of that a little bit to
get the matchups a little different. But give give Ohio
State credit. They really showed who potentially they could be.
And boy, when we look at it, going moving forward,
what a rough road Oregon could have to run through
to win a national championship as the number one overall seed.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
I would agree, where was that at all against Michigan
from Ohio State? Where they just does this just confirm
that they were so tight, they were so panicked in
that game that their own fan base, the alumni, whatever,
talked them into a choke fest against Michigan. Michigan doesn't
have the talent that Tennessee has. It's the same setting

(03:57):
at the Horseshoe in Columbus. Heck, there were four twenty
thousand Tennessee fans there and they still got freight trained.
What do we make of that?

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Part of it is? I think I hate as much
as we don't want to believe this, they're college kids.
We all think they're robotic and they're gonna play great
every week. But like Lou Holtz has said over the years,
if you get lucky, your guys played great three times
a year. Really, I mean, it's just one of those
things where you're right, the mental pressure of that Ohio
State Michigan rivalry, whether it's the coaching staff, whether it's

(04:28):
the players, everybody, they're so that like you've heard people
on TV say they put too much into that to
my in my opinion, I mean, it's a big rivalry,
and I get it, but with everything you do for
a year is based on that three hours hard to
play your best when there's so much mental stress built up.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
And you're right, they're not professionals. We try to be
professionals on three Dog Thursday and handicap these games. Again,
if you're only hearing us on the podcast, we should
make mention, come see the video show, see what Jason
and I look like. I'm not sure that you want
to see what I look like. They come see what
Jason looks like. From the powers on sports podcast Winning
Cures Everything's platforms Winning Cures Everything dot Com, the Winning

(05:06):
Cures YouTube page. That's where you see the show. If
you're seeing the show, you can take us with you
in podcast form on the three Dog Thursday podcast outlet
through Apple, through spreakers, through Spotify, et cetera. So we're
gonna get to it here in just a moment. And again,
as a stipulation, there's only four games. We don't each
have to pick three of them. We don't even have

(05:28):
to total up to three. It will be interesting how
we're gonna go. I should say that on last week's show,
prior to the opening games, I did have Clemson plus
the thirteen, which had got up to I think thirteen
and a half. He got very interesting a couple of
times whether Clemson was gonna get that covered. But Texas
gets the win and the cover. Ultimately the Tiger's not

(05:50):
built for the explosiveness and then come from behind fashion.
There's a lot of questions about Quinn Youwers's health. How
healthy is he? He at times looks good and other
times there's awful passes, et cetera. But still Texas rolls on.
They've been year before, a lot of the same players
are back to be back in this situation with a
huge game coming with Arizona State. Any other any other

(06:14):
thought here, Gary, by the way, believed in Tennessee that
never happened. Any other thought there about how Penn State
looked or Notre Dame on the Funny Night with Indiana
as they smashed them for the most part. Any other
thought on those teams in victory.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
We have one thing I will say you saw, and
I think you'll see this moving forward through as we progress.
The best teams, the best coaching staffs figure out ways
to get the ball to their best players. In the
Ohio State game, Jerresmia Smith got touches early and often
in that game. He's their best player on offense. You saw,
you know, Tyler Warren getting touches for Penn State. You

(06:46):
saw Julian the running back for Notre Dame bust that
game wide open. That game was almost run. I mean,
get your best players the ball. I means, it's all
we know, Jimmy's and Joe's and x'es and o's, but
Jimmys and Joe's. Get The more times your Jimmies and
Joe's touched the ball, the better chance you're gonna have
to win these games. And you saw Texas lean on

(07:07):
that offensive line in that running game. They just kept
running it and running it and running it against Clemson.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
And you wonder if that's going to be a similar
formula against Arizona State. So why don't we roll up
the sleeves and get into this here It will start
actually and we have time now headed to the weekend.
It will actually start on New Year's Eve with Penn
State playing Ashton Genty, the All World running back and
Boise State, and that one coming at seven thirty Eastern

(07:36):
time on Tuesday night on New Year's Night five thirty
local time in the Fiesta Bowl. So again, Penn State
had an advantage in that they've played recently. Last time
Boise State played was on Championship weekend and the Friday
night win over UNLV. So by my quick map, that's

(07:56):
like seventeen days in between games. Do you believe that's
a factor that the Bois might be a little flat
at the beginning of this game because of that?

Speaker 3 (08:05):
What do you think what is a factor? I think
it's gonna give Ashton genty seventeen days to carry the
ball about forty times. He's going to be his I mean,
sends all seriousness. They are going to lean on him.
He's gonna have two and a half weeks to get
fully healthy, fully all the Nixon bruises out of there.
That he's going to probably get the ball thirty at
least thirty times. If this game's close, he might get

(08:26):
the ball forty times. The closer this game stays. You know,
you're right, Penn State's gotten a little bit of the
rust off. I think an interesting factor will be how
many Penn State people travel because I think the Boise
crowd will travel. It's their first game, it's fairly close
to where they live. You know, Penn State after having
to go to the Big Ten Title game host to
another game, how many of those Penn State people are

(08:47):
going to get on a plane to fly to the tenpee
in the Festa Bowl. I think you're gonna have a big,
big Boise crowd, so that that could be a little
bit of a factor. The weather won't be a factor
as well. I think you give a lot of a
lot of touches for Ashton.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
And again that's where they played the college basketball national
title that Yukon won inside a State farm stadium out
in Glendale. But you bring up a great point that
you almost had to pace yourself with some of these
fan bases. Do you spend the money on the Big
Ten Title game? In Penn State probably had you know,
a good twenty thirty thousand fans at Lucas Oil, but

(09:20):
Lucas Oil Stadium wasn't full for the Big Ten Title
game with Oregon because the fans were looking at do
we spend our money now and also spend it in
Oregon's case, we're going to talk about him in the
Rose Bowl. In Penn State's case, if we have another
game looming where we have to travel, and then you
win that one and you have to travel again, and
that's flight, that's accommodation, that's all of those things in

(09:40):
addition to game tickets. So I'll be curious how many
Penn State fans will be out there. This is new
in the dynamic because previously it was four teams, two
semi final games, and you're paying to go to that game,
and there's no guarantee you're going to be in the
championship game. This is different right now with that part
of it all right, a little background. I do like
Boise State. They've only been an underdog Jason Powers one

(10:03):
time the whole year. Was all the way back at
the beginning of the season with Oregon, they were an
eighteen point underdog eighteen at Alison Stadium, only lost by three.
Gent a little chip on the shoulder. He believes he
should have won the Heisman. You and I and everybody
else though, are saying Travis Hunter should have gotten the award.
Gent He still got three hundred votes out of nearly

(10:24):
one thousand votes. He got three hundred first place votes,
so a lot of respect for him, and I think
Boise State will have some respect in this game. That's
too many points. I love the too many points philosophy
on three dog Thursday. It's too many points on the
neutral field. I like them to keep it close if
not have the puncher's chance against Penn State. Do you
concur do you go along here? You're gonna stay away

(10:45):
with that Penn State punch.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
I'm with you. A couple of things that I did
the little research on Boise didn't know much about their
quarterback Maddox Madson twenty two touchdowns, three picks, so not
prone to throw in interceptions, genty h forty four carries,
twenty nine touchdowns. A guy you and I both know
well is the architect of that offense. Dirk Cutter. Yeah,

(11:07):
buccaneer head coaches the OC there. He knows how to
draw up you know, schemes, and he's good, you know,
multiple weeks to get ready for this. Penn State has
not shown a propense to be able to score a
lot on offense. Remember they blew out SMU, but remember
two of those touchdowns, the first two touchdowns were defensive.
They didn't score much on offense. They were not looking

(11:27):
very good in that game at home. Now you go
on the road, two boys, or to excuse me, to Glendale,
warm weather and all that weather won't be a factor here.
Fifty one sacks for Boise I didn't know that. Fifty
one sacks on defense. Drew Aller's not afraid to throw
it to the other team too. I'm with you. I
think this game stays very close late into the fourth
quarter here.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
All right, so you and I are on board with
Boise State. James Franklin. By the way, because Boise State
is currently ranked number eight, number eight in the eight
pe pole, they were seated here, what would they seated
third by the College Football Playoff Committee? But as the
ap number eight ranked team, that gives us a chance
to pull the stat out that with James Franklin straight

(12:09):
up losses late in the year to Ohio State and
then to Oregon, he is now three and eighteen in
his career straight up against top ten teams, of which
Boise State is a top ten team. They're number eight.
That's incredible. I know he's had a good record as
a favorite of at least a touchdown. He's covering it

(12:31):
like a sixty five percent clip if Franklin and the
Nipney Lions or at least a touchdown. But I'm getting
eleven here, and let's say Boise State keeps it close,
if not pulls the upset in the quarterfinal round in
the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday night, it is three Dog Thursday.
We're going over these different games in the College Football

(12:52):
Playoff quarterfinals. We'll have a little bit of discussion on
the bowl games on the backside. On the end again,
Gary Seekers is away well deserved Christmas and New Year's
break here. All of his content is still up on
the site with the videos, etc. He's just not with
me here. And Jason Powers is always good to be
my wingman on three dog Thursday for this. All right,

(13:12):
So let's move on to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta,
shall we. I've always said, when you're gonna have a
game in the heart of the Southeast in Atlanta with
the College Football Playoff hanging in the balance, it's got
to be traditional rivals Texas and Arizona State that are
gonna play in the matchup. This is the way that
it worked out. Texas As the runners up in the

(13:32):
SEC did win over Clemson. Arizona State same question. Jason
Powers is off of a bye since their win over
Iowa State in the Big Twelve title game. Again some
seventeen actually eighteen days off for them in between games.
When I mean, we saw this team roll at the

(13:53):
end of the year, huge wins over Kansas State, over BYU,
they destroyed their rival Arizona they win the Big Twelve
title game. About the momentum train being stopped for them
late in the year, The sun Devil's same kind of
question as Boise State. Does it affect him? What do
you think?

Speaker 3 (14:07):
It will be interesting to see how how it goes.
One of these two teams probably will not play well
with this much time off. It's a matter of is
it Boise Is at Arizona State, is an Oregon is
at Georgia. Somebody's not gonna come out and lay a
dud here the first quarter, quarter and a half of
this game and gonna have to come from behind, you know.
With Arizona State, obviously they're gonna lean on Cam Scataboo,
a bunch at running back, kind of the John rigginses

(14:29):
kinda guy of collball. The You know, if you remember
those are all of us old enough to remember John
Riggins back with the Washington Red.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
And I'll bring the comparison. I'll bring the comparison to
Mike Alstott. He's not as big as Mike Alstott at
purdueing with the Buccaneers, but he reminds you of Allstott
with the way he bounces off of people and the
quick feet. Some would say Jerome Bennett kind of the
same way at Notre Dame. Big guy, quick feet, bouncing
off tacklers. But they love to throw the ball to

(15:00):
Scataboo as well. What a weapon the guy has been.
He's been the biggest bulk of their offense. Sam Levitt's
a dual threat quarterback. Here we go again though with
the Texas physical offensive line, and again this game is
odd because Texas for so many years was a Big
twelve team. They're now the SEC runner up. Arizona State

(15:22):
for so many years was a Pac twelve team for
fifty years. They're now the Big twelve champions. It's just weird,
and it's in Atlanta. It's just weird how this has
worked out. Final thought here with again Arizona State getting
what thirteen and a half points on three Dog Thursday.
That's a ton for them. Final thought here, Jason Powers.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
This may be a game that Sam Levitt, the quarterback
for Arizona State, has an opportunity to shine. Clemson moved
the ball pretty well through the air with their wide
receivers and Kate Klubnick last week, So I wonder if
maybe just Arizona State come out to throw to set
up the run, or do they kind of lean on
Scataboo early and maybe try to play action because Texas.
We saw the goal line stand by Texas when that

(16:06):
game got a little interesting against Clemson last week. I
don't think Arizona State's going to be able to give
Scataboo the ball thirty times and win the game. I
think Sam Levitt's gonna have to be a big factor
in the passing game. And I worry about Arizona State's
ability to stop the run because we saw last week. Boy,
that Texas offensive line and that running back crew. They
ran for three hundred yards against Clempson and looked pretty easy.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
And they have been a very opportunistic defense.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Asu.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
They took it away from Iowa State in the Big
Twelfth title game like three times in the third quarter
to blow that game open. Let's just see Jordan Tyson,
the leading receiver is out for the year with an injury.
They played with that even the Big Twelve title game,
they won the game. If you want a couple of numbers,
three dog Thursday audience, how about this ASU eleven and

(16:50):
two not only straight up, but eleven and two against
the number this year, all of it primarily as a favorite.
The last large cover they had was that Kansas State
in mid November. They were a seven and a half
point underdog, won the game outright dominated Kansas State. They
lost two other times as an underdog in the Big Twelve,

(17:10):
losing at Cincinnati as a five and a half point underdog,
didn't cover, lost as a four and a half point
underdog to Texas Tech, and didn't cover. Other than that,
They covered the rest of the year, including a couple
of times as underdogs. Give me the Sun Devils and
at thirteen and a half, I'm going right back at
Texas here Jason Powers for this matchup. This again. It

(17:34):
will be the first of the tripleheader on New Year's Day.
They're staggering it this way on purpose. For the matchup
in Atlanta, it will go first at one Eastern time
for Arizona State and for Texas. Anything else on that.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
One sneaky little thing here again it's a little thing.
But ten o'clock East Pacific time for Arizona State bodyclockwise,
is that a factor? They'll probably get there a couple
of days early. I would think to acklam'll.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Be this weekend, right, they'll be there this No Wednesday, right.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
But but again ten am kickoff again. I think Sarkisian
will lean on that running game. We don't know the
status of yours is ankle injury. We saw a little
bit of arch manning, but not you know, he was
kind of a disaster last week. Fumbled a snap, was
not very effective a couple times he played. So I
would think you're gonna see mostly yours this week. And again,
I think they're gonna lean on that running game. They're

(18:25):
gonna try to hit him with the play action. And
again the Texas defensive line, if they can stabilize and
mobilize that offensive line of Arizona State, could be a
long day for the Sun Devils.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Voice of Jason Powers. If you're only hearing us on

up Ohio State again. Oregon has been sitting and waiting

(20:23):
with Dylan Gabriel and company having won the Big Ten.
Here we go again. Get used to saying Oregon Big
Ten champions. They won the Big Ten title game again.
They've had a lot of time off same kind of theme.
And are you looking the way of the Ducks here?
In the rematch with the Buckeyes on the neutral field,
in Pasadena.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
I am. I like the Ducks here. I think again,
the time off is gonna be good for I think them.
I think the I don't think Joha State can play
much better than they played last week, and they were
unbelievable for the first three and a half quarters of
that game. I mean they dominated. That first quarter against
Tennessee was electric. I don't know if they can play
that well on a neutral sight Again, I think you're
gonna see a lot more Oregon fans then you're gonna

(21:05):
see Ohio State fans in the building. Uh. In the
Rose Bowl, you'll see plenty of It's gonna be like
last week. It's gonna be seventy seventy thirty Oregon. I
think in the Rose Bowl. I think Gabriel's mobility the
last matchup, I know it was a one point game.
Denzel Burke, the Ohio State cornerback, they went after him.
I think that's I think I saw the stat they

(21:25):
completed like nine balls for like one hundred and eighty
yards against Denzel Burke, the Ohio State cornerback. They will
have him in their in their in their sight line.
For Dylan Gabriel, I think Gabriel's mobility, he wants to
throw the ball. I don't think he's as much he's
you're not gonna get the deer in the headlight. Look
like you had a little bit at a Nico last
week for Tennessee. Gabriel knows where he wants to go

(21:45):
with the ball. Six year player, he knows that offense.
I think that's gonna be a factor in this game.
And I think you see Oregon take the lead, put
the pressure back on Ohio State. I think both teams
will score a little bit, but I think I think
it's a great spot for Oregon plus the two and
a half.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
And again they did play in the regular season, as
you know, Jason, and that was a home game at
Eugene where Oregon was actually the underdog. We had it
on three Dog Thursday. I called the Ducks that night
as they won. Remember Oregon down what by a couple
of points? I'm sorry, Ohio State down by a couple points.
Couldn't get in field goal range. Will Howard would like

(22:22):
the vapor lock with the clock running out. Didn't get
the clock stop. They didn't get the field goal attempt
or a hail Mary attempt off Oregon wins the game.
Oregon finishes the perfect season, the only FBS program to
finish undefeated this year. That's the only game where Oregon
was an underdog, by the way, all year. That includes

(22:42):
the Big Ten title game. They were a three point
favorite and covered did the Ducks in the Big Ten telegame?
How about Oregon only six and six ats in the
regular season, seven and six overall with the Penn State win.
After it's over, this is gonna be some scene. It
has been for so many years in the San Gabriel Mountains,

(23:02):
right with sunset on New Year's Day and the winner
gets a spot in the semi finals of the College
Football Playoff. Point blank to you, has Ryan Day saved
his job? You don't believe they will, But has he
saved his job if they win this game at Organs.
There's still a lot of talk in Columbus he doesn't
win this Rose Bowl, he's fired. Do you think he
saves his job with a win? If they get it?

Speaker 3 (23:24):
Oh, if they win the game, there's no doubt he's
not getting fired, even if they lose in the next round.
I don't think he's gonna get fired at this point
because I think the way they responded against Tennessee. Had
they lost the Tennessee game, then I think we'd had
him having a different discussion. I think he's gonna be
okay again. I don't think Ohio State wants to pay
him fifty million dollars not to be the coach and
they and they did respond. Give him credit, they did

(23:45):
respond in the game they needed to respond. No, I
don't think he's I don't think I think he's squelched
those those rumors. And now if they lose by four touchdowns,
you never know, but I don't anticipate that. But yeah,
I think he's good.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Michigan fans, by the way, loved your take. They want
to keep him there as long as possible because it
was just like the old days with John Cooper. They
kept saying back in the nineties, don't ever fire John Cooper.
He can't beat us. I do think it's a bit
preposterous because the guy's got a tremendous record that we're
just going to base it on not beating Michigan. Specifically,
if you win this game and you're now in the

(24:17):
semi finals with a chance to win the national championship,
that's the bigger deal. That's the bigger deal as opposed
to the lunatic fringe in Buckeye Land. All right, so
we've covered three of the college football playoff games. One
more to go. That's the final one. That's the Sugar Bowl,
coming on New Year's Night around eight forty five Easter time,
seven forty five local in the Quata, in the French Quata,

(24:38):
they're gonna be hyped up. They're off of Bourbon and
Canal and Poidris at the Superdome. You and I are contemporaries.
We remember Harshall, Harshall, Herschel, Herschel Walker and Georgia beating
Notre Dame and the Sugar Bowl to win the national title.
Here we are. What forty four years later, we're doing

(24:59):
it again, Georgia Notre Dame not for the title in
a quarter final game. What do you make of this?
With Georgia off the SEC championship women and Notre Dame
again has won a home game with Indiana after being
off for a couple of weeks themselves. They look pretty
good against Indiana. What do you make of that? Even
if you're not going for the Irish Here for three
dog Thursday Jason Powers.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
I'll give you a Georgia point in Notre Dame port
for Georgia. What is Gunner Stockton? How do they create
the game playing around Gunner Stockton. He's a hyped prospect,
hype recruit. He played a little bit in that SEC
title game, seemed to spark them a little bit in
the second half after the Beck elbow injury. What can
he do that? Maybe Beck doesn't do well. We'll see

(25:40):
scouting report. Not much of a scouting report on the guy,
so we'll see how Notre Dame handles that. Notre Dame's
got an elite defense. I mean they can play defense.
The interesting can can Georgia run the ball with at
t N? They got the running game a little bit
going against Texas in the title game, which helped Stockton,
But what can Gunner Stockton do in the passing game?
And if I'm Notre Dame, you got to stay ahead

(26:01):
of the sticks against Georgia because if you make this
a Riley Leonard has to throw the ball kind of game,
big problems for Notre Dame long term. He can throw
the ball a little bit, but you don't want him
in third and seven. A whole lot on the New
Year's Night out in New Orleans. Can they establish the
running game. I think this is for Notre Dame to win.
This needs to be a lower scoring game. They don't

(26:21):
want to get into a track meet. I don't think
with Georgia, not that Georgia is gonna score a ton,
But I don't think Notre Dame wants to be in
a throwing game. They want to keep the down and
distance tight, run the clock, burn the clock, make this
a twenty to seventeen kind of game.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
In my view, you mentioned Jeremiah Love earlier in the
show with the ninety eight yard run. We can interject
all kinds of different references, cliches, the power of love.
All you need is love, excid There's gonna be a
whole lot of love, I would think for Notre Dame
in the super Dome. And isn't it funny and fitting
that Georgia wanted to make sure they got ranked as

(26:55):
high as possible before they told everybody, Yeah, Carson becks
out for the rest of the year with that elbow
injury suffered in the SEC title game on the sack.
He's had elbow surgery, by the way, since then. So
this is gonna be interesting with Kirby with the backup.
I was just looking for Notre Dame. They were not
great ats this year, only including this last game, only

(27:18):
now eleven well, they were eleven and two actually ats.
I'm looking for the opportunities where they were an underdog.
That was at Texas A and M all the way
back on Labor Day weekend. They won outright as a
three point underdog in that game. And I believe, if
I'm double checking, that's the only time Notre Dame hasn't

(27:40):
been favored all year. So you get them as a
two point underdog, but you say stay away against the
Georgia Bulldogs, and I you know, experience matters. I got
Kirby Smart as a defending as a former two time
national champion. He's been in this College Football Playoff over
and over again. Marcus Freeman has coached one CF game.

(28:00):
That's advantage Kirby Smart, is it not?

Speaker 3 (28:03):
No doubt about it. A couple sneaky little notes here. No,
one of Notre Dame's best defensive linemen out for the
year got hurt in the Indiana game. Out for the year.
One of their defensive tackles and the kicking game for
Notre Dame has not been great. They've missed a lot
of field goals and again this I think this is
gonna be a lower scoring game. So field goals and
field position are gonna matter here. You can't be missing

(28:23):
short field goals and makeable kicks if you're Notre Dame.
So I worry about that. Maybe does that make Marcus
Freeman go forward a little more on fourth and three,
fourth and four situations? So keep keep an eye on
those two things. This game is gonna be one in
the trenches. Neither team has dynamic wide receivers. I think
this game is gonna be one in the trenches. Running
back position in the trenches.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
It's Riley Mills. Of course, I have a daughter named Riley.
My twins. Riley Mills is the injured Notre Dame defensive tackle.
He's gonna have to have knee surgery. He's out for
the remainder of these playoffs. Let's see what the Sugar
Bowl brings. That'll be the four of the four games
coming in the college football playoff again. It will start
with Boise State and Penn State on Tuesday night. It

(29:07):
will roll through Texas, Arizona, State in the afternoon on Wednesday,
followed by Oregon Ohio State, and then Georgia Notre Dame.
Those games real quick jays. Those games gonna be massively,
massively rated.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
The Rose.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
He's easily what twenty million.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
May under, twenty two million over under.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
I think, I think for the I think for Georgia
Notre Dame, I take over the twenty two million in
prime time with the Rose Bowl as the lead in.
This is where college football cleans up. The College Football
Playoff cleans up on New Year's Day. Let's see. It
is interesting because there's some people that are going to
work the next day on the on the second, because
the second falls on a Thursday in this instance, not

(29:47):
close to the weekend. We'll see, but I think that audience,
especially in the West, will be growing and will be building.
Stay tuned, stay tuned for that. At a couple of
college bowl games of interest, I know you're interested. On
the weekend in Colorado in the Valero Texas Bowl, Dion
Sanders and Crew with Travis Hunter with the heisman, his

(30:08):
son Shador playing Brigham Young. They didn't play the regular
season in the Big Twelve, but this one's actually got
you interested on the weekend real quick.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
It does because they're playing Hunter and Shador are gonna play.
They've taken out a humongous insurance policy through the NFL,
which I applaud those guys for playing. I plawed both
those kids for playing.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
The easy and let's give can I interrupt, Let's give
Deon Sanders credit because he set the tone. He said,
these guys, we're not gonna accept this bull bit and
then not have these guys play, including my son and
his son is very likely a top five, if not
a top two NFL pick. So it started with him
setting the tone of we're not coming there if we're
not playing our best guys.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Jason, I agree, So let's give him credit for doing that,
and those guys credit for playing again. Be interesting. It's
a big twelve matchup. They didn't play in the regular season,
so you know, b Yu, we saw what they did
during the regular Seas's very competitive team, very good team.
But again, all the credit to Colorado and those kids
kids for playing in this game that they don't have
to play in. So kudos to those guys as well.
I would expect them to beat BYU. With those guys

(31:08):
going out with a bang going to the NFL, So
I would lay the four with the Colorado here again,
last game, last to off for those guys, So I
would take Colorado on the minus the four here. But
kudos to Deona and those guys are playing.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
He's not interested in the Cougars for three Dog Thursday purposes.
And you and I will be part of the Alabama
Michigan Relyonquest Bowl game. This is the former outback Bawl
renamed a few years ago with a new sponsor in
Tampa on New Year's Eve. In this instance because of
the expanded playoff, this will be coming at lunchtime noon
Eastern time on Tuesday. Alabama a near what they're thirteen

(31:45):
point favorites wow against Michigan, and we're curious. There's a
lot of talk. Will Jalen Milroe playing the game? Is
Alabama taking out and is Milro taking out the same
insurance policy because he's slated to be possibly a number
one pick in the NFL draft coming up? The Alabama quarterback, Well,
we'll see, but we're fascinated with that game. I'll be

(32:06):
on the local radio call. You'll be a wingman with
me on the local radio call in Tampa Bay of
Alabama Michigan, two traditional powers that could be kind of
a fun game. But the rest of the bull slate,
I'm just I'm kind of on the rest of the
Bowl games besides the playoff, Jason Ada.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
We don't know who's playing and which guys are trans
I mean, you got, I mean, here's another thing to
keep an eye on. Remember the Penn State backup quarterback
who was playing transferred is not on the roster anymore.
He's not a guy who was playing early in the
year and played some reps.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Means I had to get in there for Aler because
of injury exactly.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Is not a part of this mix here. So those
kind of little things. I know Alabama's had some transfer guys.
The couple running backs have left. The other guys, So
who plays in these games, in the non playoff games
are going to be the part that you need to know.
If you're gonna betting on these games, need to know
do some research who's playing and who's not because that
will affect a lot of things when it comes to

(33:00):
the number.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I do know this. We can't wait for this playoff
to unfold. We will be down to just four teams
that will plug into the Orange Bowl in Miami and
the Cotton Bowl in Dallas after all of this is
over with. On New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Jason and I both like Boise State on Tuesday Night
against Penn State getting the eleven well, Ashton genty have

(33:21):
the big breakout. Will Penn State's defense stuff him? Stay tuned,
and then I will go with Arizona State the upstarts.
I would not surprise me if they win this game
with Texas. I said before this whole thing began, the
one this whole twelve team thing began, the one wildcard
team that I would take to win the whole thing
that nobody's talking about as a wildcard, as an underdog,

(33:44):
not a favorite. It's Arizona State. Look out the role
that they've been on at the end of the year.
And Kenny Dillingham, a wizard with the offensive play calls
stand by for that matchup in the Peach Bowl where
they get what thirteen and a half of that game,
and you like the two and a half with Oregon
in the rematch with Ohio State, they got him the
first time in Eugene, Oregon. This is now on the

(34:05):
neutral field in the Rose Bowl and you and I
left it alone. I'm surprised that George is not favored
a little more. I guess the bait the Beck injury
is part of that, the quarterback obviously, but they're only
favored by two against Notre Dame. That's interesting to come
next Tuesday Night Final thoughts, Jason Powers, anything else?

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Remember this. If Oregon wins this title, they're gonna have
to beat Ohio State, Texas, Texas maybe there the state game,
and then Georgia. That would be the greatest gauntlet to
win a national title. And I know we've never had
this format before, but no team's ever had to do
that to win when they were the number one overall

(34:42):
seed in the tournament to begin with.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
I mean, but look, I mean, theoretically, Ohio State fans
saying this, we would have had to beat an SEC
team with Tennessee had to beat Oregon in a rematch,
theoretically possibly beat Texas, and then beat Georgia ourselves. It's
crazy on on whoever's gonna survive this gauntlet, because somebody
is gonna win in at least three games out of
the quarterfinals from the bye teams or somebody that wins it,
maybe wins a fourth game in the College Football Playoff.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
We're gonna have to come to to there's one of
these four games is going to the wire again, whether
it's upset, lakefield goal, whatever, we're gonna have. I know
last week was a bunch of dud games. We're gonna
have one or two of these games go to the wire.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
