Speaker 1 (00:07):
Football fans, it's time to go on the record with
this week's matchups in pro and college football. With just
one catch. We're only interested in underdog who can keep
it close, if not pull the outright upset. Time to
find out. It's three Dog Thursday. Now here's your host,

(00:27):
TJ Reeves.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yes, folks, we are back aboard here Wolf Wolf for
the third week in a row and new edition of
three Dog Thursday on the Winning Curs Everything platforms the
YouTube page as well as our podcast feed, etc. I
am the somewhat capable host TJ Reeves. He's back. Hello,
brother Powers, Jason Powers, as you see there on the

(00:50):
screen of the Powers on Sports podcast. Jason also talks
college football as well with the Florida Football Insiders college
football themed podcast. Good to be back with you, my friend.
We had a three, two and one week on the show,
one one and one for you. Good to have you back.
Ready to roll up the sleeves here in mid September
and go after some more underdogs, Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I got I got heartbroken last week in Lawrence on
the breakaway at the end, and then I almost beat
Iowa stayed out right, so I very easily could have
been three and oh but.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
It been, could have, should have. One of that Conrady
kid two weeks, two seasons in a row, kicks a
fifty plus yard field goal to beat Iowa. He never
has to buy a drink or a meal ever again
in ames Iowa beating the Hawkeyes twice the same kicker too.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Sure, maybe kickers. We love it.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You're big on the kickers. Jason's a former kicker at
UAB in Florida State. We love it. We'll get into
all that with the fun and games. Thank you for
finding us on Gary's platform or again on the podcast
platforms Apple, Spreakers, Spotify. We love picking underdogs, We love
having fun. Jason, indulge me for a second. I say again,
because this is September the eleventh. I've been doing this
all week on other platforms, other interviews, et cetera. We

(02:01):
should never forget what happened on September the eleventh, two
thousand and one. You and I are mindful of this,
the horrible tragedies at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon
in Washington, d C. And that open farm field in Shanksville,
Pennsylvania where those heroes aboard that American Airlines plane rushed
the cockpit and ended up crashing the airplane, costing them

(02:22):
their lives to save others. We should never forget the heartbreak,
the anguish for the families out of that tragedy, though
the resolve of this country and overcoming it. I can't
believe it's twenty four years later, but we should continue
to teach our kids this is history. Now I'm saying
a lot there anything else you want to add on
this nine to eleven as we released three Dark Thursday.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Now, I mean there's people all over the country. I
don't care where you live. You have I hate to
say eight degrees of separation, but somebody knows somebody who
knows somebody that was either in New York City that day,
in and around that whole area. And again you saw
the goodness of America come together that day after such
a terrible an event. And again, don't ever forget because

(03:05):
a lot of people lost a lot of a lot
of their life and a lot of their family members
and friends and colleagues and all the rest.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
When you go back to the investment firm Canter Fitzgerald,
that literally lost several hundred employees that day, all of
their families, some of them with little kids, some of
them with unborn children. And here we are now that
the unborn children would be college graduate age right now.
It's incredible to contemplate that. But a lot of heroes

(03:35):
out of that day, for sure, first responders that lost
their lives. Just horrible stuff. But again we are mindful
of that. We're about to joke around and talk college
football and funny games. But thank you to the audience,
thank you to Jason for indulging me on that, and
again I think we are ready to go. By the way,
as I mentioned last week, we were three two and
one on the show on three Dog Thursday, seven foreign

(04:00):
one now on the year, So you're making money at
this point, as we see there on the video screen
here as part of three Dog Thursday. So we're anxious
to get underway with everything that's gonna happen here on
the program today, including all the underdogs we're gonna we're
gonna crisscross the country. We'll go kind of chronologically here

(04:21):
with the picks, but certainly if it's a big enough game,
we're more than likely gonna touch on it. Depending here,
all we care about is underdogs, by the way on
this program, Gary's been letting us cohabitate. The last couple
of seasons. We hone in on the pooches, normally the
road team, certainly the less thought of team. In some cases,
there are some home underdogs that we're gonna talk about
here today. But by and large, we love the doggies.

(04:44):
We love we love the wolf Wolf. That's what we're
looking for here on the show. Shall we begin, mister
Powers here on the program, and let's begin with you
and a Saturday game that will be interesting for game
number one one that is Iowa State, a team that
we just touched on with the win over Iowa off

(05:05):
of their last second victory over their hated rival, now
traveling to Jonesboro, Arkansas to play Arkansas State, who was
beaten pretty decisively by the end State Powerhouse Arkansas last week.
The line is twenty that we see everywhere for three
dog Thursday purposes. Again, I say to the audience, if
the line goes up or down after Thursday, we've got
no control over that. The number is the number. As

(05:26):
we released the show, all right, what drew you to
Arkansas State against rock O Becked and the suddenly surging
Iowa State Cyclones having to play here on the road.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Yeah, a couple things. One, I don't know how many
Iowa State kids know where Jonesboro, Arkansas is, having to
play the sun Belt on at a road game. I'd
be curious to know when they're getting on that plane
tomorrow in Ames if they know where Jonesboro, Arkansas is
that I.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Have been there. By the way, I don't know about you,
but I have been there to Jonesborough about ninety minutes
depending on how fast you drive ish west of Memphis.
Not the easiest place to get to. That's a hostile
place to play. To your point, continue on, I.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Would hear a couple of things to be aware with
Iowa say they've played two very emotional games already this
year in Ireland where they beat Kansas State late and
then last week obviously the huge rivalry game in the
state of Iowa where they kicked the game winner and
the sy Hawk and win the sy Hawk. I just
think this is a spot here for Arkansas State, coming
off the emotional win last week in Iowa versus versus Iowa,

(06:25):
the Hawk guys having to get on a plane and
go to a Sun Belt team who we've seen these
Sun Belt teams over the years pull these kind of upsets.
Do I think Arkansas State's gonna win the game out right?
I maybe don't think that because I think rock O
Beck always finds a way at the end. Here's another
thing with Iowa State. They don't blow a lot of
people out. They win a lot of close games. They

(06:45):
keep the game close. Their offense is decent and ain't great,
but it's good enough, and Roco's kind of the difference
maker when they need it. Remember this name, Jalen Rayner,
quarterback for Arkansas State, through for three hundred and forty
five yards three touchdowns into Week one. They were overmatched
last week at Fayetteville, but he had a decent game.
He threw for a couple scores, was a leading rusher,

(07:07):
three year starter, Freshman of the Year in twenty twenty
three at Arkansas State, so he's not a transfer. He's
been there for three years. I just think this is
a spot for Arkansas State. Twenty is a lot road
home underdog getting twenty. I just think the emotional letdown
of Iowa State, Arkansas State will be amped up to
play a big twelve team. Give me the Wolves plus

(07:29):
the twenty at home.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Interesting that Iowa State goes back into conference play next
week with Arizona, who I'm about to talk about as
their opponent back at home. How much of a look
ahead is that really? You bring up the letdown maybe
from the rivalry hated win with Iowa and you start
the game plus twenty here on the scoreboard in Jonesboro.

(07:51):
We look forward to that one that is on what
ESPN two Saturday afternoon coming up for Iowa State and
Arkansas State. And they used to be the Arkansas State Indians.
Not in these politically correct times anymore. They're the Red Wolves,
he says. The Wolves will be out there for Arkansas
State and Arizona State. That's game number one. I'm gonna

(08:15):
back up on three dog Thursday and go to a
Friday night Big twelve game, same conference as Iowa State.
And as I mentioned, this is Arizona playing Kansas State. Now.
The interesting thing, as Gary was talking about this week,
and you know, I also do a Big twelve preview
show Big twelve Game Day on tune in. This is
not a conference game. This is a previously scheduled home

(08:38):
and home where Kansas State is paying off the second
game the road game at Tucson at Arizona. So these
teams are going to play ten games total against the conference,
but only nine of them count. This one doesn't count
in the conference standings.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Now.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
It obviously matters for strength of schedule, it matters for
your record, a bowl game, etc. But we should just
point out this is an out of conference game as
it stands now. For Arizona, they've beaten a couple of
lesser teams in Hawaii who was beaten up without their
star quarterback in Week one. Last week they played Weaber State,
a bad FCS team step up in competition with K State,

(09:18):
but K State has the aforementioned loss you talked about
in Ireland in the Week zero game. They came back
home and barely beat North Dakota by the way in
the final minute, had to come from behind the final
minute to score a touchdown to beat them. And then
last week Army just absolutely suffocated them with their defense,
wore them out, wore out the K State defense with

(09:41):
long drives, time of possession, wore them down, scored two
touchdowns on two long drives, and upset K State in
Manhattan to drop them to one and two. You got
any quick thoughts here on Arizona and k State. I
obviously liked the Wildcats on a Friday night.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
You like them to win out right, obviously too. They
only get one and a half, so you think they're
gonna win the game. It sounds like to me, yes, me,
the second time we've had kind of a two conference
teams playing. But it doesn't count. Remember last week it
was Virginia and NC State the same boat. That game didn't.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Crazy right, right, but official ACC teams, but let's call
it a non conference game, okay, whatever. And this game
is in Manhattan, correct, This game is at Arizona. This
game is in Tucson. And the interesting thing is we've
talked about this before. When this game opened, k State
was the short one point favorite, and initial money came

(10:34):
in right away on Kansas State, which flipped the line
around now to Arizona being a point and a half favorite.
Now it may be that this backs down again to
like a half point or even after three dog Thursday,
doesn't matter. I'm taking them as the short underdog. I
kind of go again here with the philosophy of why

(10:55):
would k State be favored on the road when they
haven't looked good in any of the three games games,
especially in the second half of any of the three
games on the road at Tucson, any final fought here
on a Friday night game at Arizona's stadium in Tucson.
Anything else on the Wildcats against the Wildcats here Arizona

(11:17):
in k State.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
It would be a big bloat. At Kansas State, they
go to one and three. A lot of people thought
they'd be in contention in the Big Twelve. Obviously, the quarterback,
Avery Williams is.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
The Namethel Johnson Avery Johnson. Correct, you know, a.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Lot of expectations at the beginning of the year. They
lose heart the tough game in Ireland. Again, Arizona's a
feisty little team. They got the Fvada. What's the kids
with Fita? Noah Fafita. Correct, yep, he's He's there and
they like to throw it around a little bit. But yeah,
Tucson has pulled some upsets over the years and again
building program back back to where they were at one

(11:49):
point under Jet Judd Fish Jetfish, good call. I'll take it.
You take the points at home.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
And Rich Rod was there before as the Arizona coach.
Also Rich Rodri Vegas there with a high powered offense.
Let's see a Fafita who's been pretty good at the
first two games. Again, level of competition not very good
at Hawaii and Weaver State. This will be tougher, Chris Climbs,
team is going to be desperate. Like you mentioned the
k State Wildcats here, they do not want to be

(12:16):
one and three. I think they will be. I think
Arizona beats them on Friday night. We rock on on
three dog Thursday, rolling through the underdog simply to cover.
You might believe that they might win outright all right.
A week ago we sat here on three Dog Thursday
wondering about the South Florida Bulls USF getting seventeen or

(12:36):
seventeen and a half at Florida. We were both apprehensive.
Is the word that I will use to jump in.
Even though the Bulls had beaten Boise State in the
opening game Florida at home, SEC team and USF went
toe to toe on the line of scrimmage with Florida
throughout the game, in the game the entire way. They
end up winning the game last week and for for

(13:00):
you it's too big to pass up. The USF is
once again getting seventeen plus points at Miami against the Hurricanes.
You're going there for three dog Thursday, tell me more?

Speaker 3 (13:11):
I am again do I I'm not sure Florida's USF
can win this game too, But I also think I've
been so impressed with that USF defense. The first two
week they steiny Boise State shut them down, and last
week they went toe to toe in Gainesville. Defensively with
a very formidable front five for Florida, you had Lagway,

(13:32):
you had plenty of weapons for Florida, and I know
Lagway didn't play great last week, but a lot of
that was because of the USF defense. They were again disciplined,
they were in their lanes, they didn't give up big plays.
And again, if they can make Miami go the distance
on these drives and don't give up thirty and forty
yard plays, I think Byron Brown and company will be
able to score a little more than they did last week.

(13:53):
With the running and pass option. You saw the long
throw in the game for the long touchdown. You saw
them the special team's mishap that turned into a safety
for USF. And I like the kicking situation at USF
with Nego Grammatic. If the game's close, if they need
a kick, he can make them. He's been pretty consistent.
And again, I worry a little bit because I know

(14:15):
Miami is on full attention now that they've won in games.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Absolutely yes, and.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
So I'm a little worried that. But I think seventeen
and a half is a little too much. I think
Miami wins the game, but I think it's a ten
to fourteen point game at most. I think Carson Beckel's
score some points, but I think USF will figure out
a way to keep the game within two scores.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
A couple of things we love the Grammatica family. Martin,
his brother Bill, his other brother Santiago. This is the
son Nico. I keep saying on all these shows, how
old am I that I've been covering the Grammaticas for
twenty five plus years and now I'm covering the oldest
son of Martin who kicked the winning field goal in Gainesville.
What an all time moment for them powers. I keep saying,

(14:56):
hopefully USF fans enjoyed the last time that Florida's ever
gonna will played them again in a series after the
Bulls beat them in Gainesville. They aren't gonna willingly sign
up for a series anymore to legitimize them as an
in state team that's not an SEC team. So give
USF credit in that regard. The only thing that gives
me a little pause follow up on this. They played
a year ago and I know last year is last year.

(15:18):
Fairly close game in the first half, but then Miami
absolutely blitz them in the second half physically and the
game became like fifty to fifteen in the end. One
other nugget, Not all of this is Mario Cristobal, some
of it's many Diaz, but the last and I think
even Mark ricked the last four meetings, Miami has won

(15:40):
straight up and covered all four against USF, for whatever
that's worth. Again, Alex Golish wasn't the coach for all
four of those for USF. But what about I mean,
a year ago Golish was the coach, Crystal Ball was
the coach different teams to an extent, But does that
concern you in the least that Miami wore them down
and blew them out a.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Little bit, Because as we saw what Miami did to
Notre Dame in the trenches, they were very good in
the trenches. In Week one, again, I do worry a
little bit about I think Carson Beck's better than Lagway,
so I think he'll play well. But again, USF's defense
has been really good these last two weeks, especially the
boys in the Florida game. They've been not getting gashed
and he's huge chunk plays. Again. Can Mario screw it

(16:20):
up on the end game, Absolutely, We've seen him do
that again. I think Miami's gonna win the game. But
I think USF. They didn't come out of the Florida game.
They didn't lose two and three guys to injury. From
everything I've heard, they're fairly healthy. From that perspective, I
think Byron Brown again, if goalish is not reckless. I
liked last week he played to his defense. He wasn't

(16:43):
going forward on fourth down all the time, he punted
when he needed to punt, played field position. If he'll
do that again and not be reckless, I think Florida
USF will stay within the seventeen and a half.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
I can tell you this. She's been smiling all week.
Missus Reeves is a bull. Let's see what they can
do in Miami. This is on the CW Network, by
the way, not on ESPN not on the ACC network.
The CW network gets select ACC games down the wrong.
This one's on the CW network. Find it, check the

(17:16):
local listing. Jason says, give me the USF Bulls out
of Tampa, down in Miami, down in South Florida. They
have won before in South Florida. I believe that was
Skip Holtz against Randy Shannon the Bulls. The Bulls have
now beaten Florida State at Florida State, followed by beating
Miami at Miami in program history, and now Florida at Florida.

(17:37):
There's something to be said for that. For example, UCF
does not have a win in any of those stadiums,
even though UCFS had a ton of success, had an
unbeaten season, et cetera. Something that USF fans can kind
of stick their chin out.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Again, if USF were to win this game TJ maybe
five in the country, you'd have to put them top five.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
You have to put them top ten at least, and
in these polls again, these voters, it's crazy while we
talk about USF, But if they get a if they
get a win against Boise State that was either twenty
four or twenty five in the polls, followed by a
win over Florida that was like, like they were seventeen.
I think in one poll Miami is now top ten.

(18:21):
How do you not put them in the top ten.
They got to be there, and now they're the lead
team for the Group of five entry into the College
Football Playoff. It would be control your own destiny at
that point, man, for Alex Gorge's program. If they can
get that, all right, let's continue here. I've got a
second underdog for you. Right around the same time that
game's going on in Miami. It is the one hundred

(18:42):
and eighth backyard Brawl with West Virginia and Pitt Did
we or did we not sit on three dog Thursday
and morn Everybody be careful about West Virginia at Ohio
on upset alert. Why in the world did they agree
to go play a max school on CAMPMPUS early in
the year at their place. Just stupid, stupid administration When

(19:05):
you don't have to do that if you're a Big
twelve school or a power conference. They elected to do that.
And rich Rod's team had a couple of injuries in
the game. They didn't run it nearly as well as
their opening game and Ohio beat them all right, now
we go to pitt that's gotten a couple of wins.
Pat Nardouzi has done a bunch of talking this week
about how West Virginia doesn't want to play them anymore

(19:25):
in the series, about how they came back last year
and beat the Mountaineers in Pittsburgh in the final minute. Again,
Rich Rod's a new coach with a new staff and
a bunch of new players. I don't know what that means.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
But he knows that rivalry. He knows that he.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Does Zi and Narduzi's won a couple of games against
West Virginia backyard brawl in Morgantown. Do you want a
couple of numbers here off of this game. Pitt by
the way, is zero to three in their last three
trips straight up into Morgantown, and a couple of those
are Nardouzi. They're one and two against the number in

(20:03):
those last three trips into Morgantown. Here, something says to me,
West Virginia is ready to potentially win this game. Obviously,
I just want him to hang in as they get
six and a half points here for this matchup. What
are your thoughts here on the backyard Brawl. As Rich Rodriguez,
he had some success and won a couple of games

(20:25):
against Pitt when they were both in the old Big
East back in the two thousands before Pitt took off
to the ACC. Now West Virginia ends up in the
Big Twelve. Any thought on the backyard Brawl, This is.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
One of those series where I don't care what the
records are and the expectations. They always seem to play
close games, kind of like Alabama and Auburn, you know
the backyard brawl. Here they burn do they will? They
be burning couches if they win the game. That's kind
of their big thing. They like to burn couches apparently
if they win big games. But again again I mean

(20:57):
Rich rod knows this rivalry, so that won't that won't
him at all. Nardusians again their fight for the same
kind of players. So this is a big recruiting game
for the air people kids in that part of the world, Pennsylvania, Ohio,
because a lot of these kids are being recruited by
both those programs. So, you know, home Underdog coming off

(21:17):
of a bad loss. I like the spot here for
West Virginia as well.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Again, Rich Rodriguez four and three in his career, most memorably,
though against Pitt. Most memorably was the two thousand and
seven game where they were number two in the country,
playing at home with Pat White as a Heisman candidate
with a chance to go to the BCS title game potentially,
and Dave wanstat Remember Dave Wan's dat had had messed
up his leg, broken his leg, torn his achilles. He

(21:42):
was there on crutches on the sideline. Remember for Jason
and the fans when Pitt won that game back eighteen
years ago outright as a double digit underdog at West Virginia.
Rich rod ain't forgotten that. West Virginia fans haven't forgotten that. Again,
it's a long time ago. It's his second tour of duty.
I say, Slayon walking through that door, or Slayton's not

(22:03):
walking through the door. He wishes he had him. Rich Rodriguez,
I say, WVU, let's go Mountaineers, drank all them beers.
Let's see what happens with the backyard brawl Saturday afternoon.
That is on ESPN, I believe three thirty Eastern time
for West Virginia and Pitt. That is my second underdog,

(22:26):
four underdogs, on the show. We do need to say
this on three Dog Thursday. If you're looking to get
into the Backyard Brawl or any of these big games
that we have been talking about or we're about to
talk about, We've got a sponsor, Gary Seegers is going
to tell you right now a lot more about it
right here on the Winning Cures Everything platform about how
to get into those big games. Love it and you

(22:47):
see it right there on the screen. Again that use
the promo code WCEE ten for any ticket purchase under
one hundred dollars and WCEE twenty for any purchase three
hundred dollars a more. Take twenty dollars off again for
a lower level seat, the better seats in Mylon Pusker Stadium.
If you were getting a pair of seats, you're not
gonna get away for under three hundred dollars. I don't

(23:09):
think for the backyard Brawl, good luck. Use our promo code.
Use it as much as you want. And Jason, we
keep saying this. It's good for anything that includes the NFL,
right the baseball.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Posts, Georgia flu Yes.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Any of these games we're gonna talk about, Notre Dame,
Texas a and M and South Ben use the code
as much as you want. The NFL that that Chiefs
Eagles game Super Bowl rematch coming up this weekend. Major
League Baseball October postseason concerts, any of it use ticket
Smarter the ticket Smarter mobile app promo code WC twenty
for any purchase of three hundred dollars or more. We

(23:43):
each have another underdog to get to. What do you
have for underdog number three? Are you going late night
all the way out West? I believe you are.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
I am taking a team that I have no empirical
data of why they should cover the game. I don't
have any confidence in what I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Is a hairy, flea infested dog kids, as we like
to say on three Dog Thursday. And that team is
the Stanford Cardinal.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
Yes we have Boston College, a classic ACC matchup handing
outs to the form to see Andrew Luck. And now
the interim coach, Frank Reich is now the coach for
this year at Stanford. We saw Stanford a couple of
weeks ago blow a game in Hawaii, the game they
should have won. They got beat soundly last week at BYU.

(24:33):
None of the data says why Stanford should be in
the game. But here's a couple of things. Boston College
loses a heartbreaker last week on the road at Michigan State,
double time, had to travel back to Boston. Now have
to get on a plane and go all the way
across the country again the next week to sleepy Palo Alto.
There might be four hundred engineering students in the building.

(24:56):
That might be it. That program has really falling off
the last four or five years. You had the coach
Taylor got removed earlier in the summer, Yeah, allegations. Andrew
Luck though, is taken over as the GM of that program,
bringing in Frank Wright. I just think this is a spot.
I don't know if they can win the game outright,
but I just think this is a late night spot.

(25:18):
What cross country trip give me? Stanford in the twelve
and a half to keep it close.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Well, they were able to run the ball against Hawaiian
Hawaii's not that good, and then they could not do
much with Brigham Young in a hostile place to play
in BYU's much better than Boston College. And again BC
and Michigan State went toe to toe deep into the
night and East Lansing into double overtime when Michigan State
won it with a touchdown and a two point conversion
to win forty two to forty after they had stopped

(25:45):
Boston College's two point conversion at the beginning of double overtime.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
All right, get quarterback changed too for Stanford. Could have
been a new quarterback.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
For My news is Andrew Luck can't come play for
Frank like he's got no eligibility left on what the
cargo they're going to do. But I kind of like
the hunch here double digits at home the home dog
ee here on three dog Thursday. We love that, So
Jason says, give me that ac. It's still bizarre to
say ACC matchup Stanford and Boston College, but that is

(26:18):
what it is on three dog Thursday. And also bizarre
is the one that I'm about to talk about earlier
in the afternoon. We got another Western team coming all
the way to the Midwest, and that is USC to
play Perdue on CBS. Jason, did I not sit here
last week and talk up the CBS road opponent Oklahoma

(26:38):
State at Oregon? And I kept talking about the thirty
points and about how Gundhy's never been a thirty point underdog,
at least recently. Too many points, too many points, they
had the number covered. In the middle of the second
quarter Oregon on the CBS Big Ten game with a
Western team, Oregon at home. That was me last week,

(26:58):
right confirmed, that was me talking that up. It was
not good. How about Mike Gundhy in the halftime interview?
Did we talk about this? Mike Gundhy standing there at
the half on CBS on Live TV with like a
blank look on his face and in all seriousness, while
down forty one to three, he says, we need to

(27:18):
put a drive together. He says, and I quote, we
need to establish the run. Establish the run. You're down
forty one to three. The only thing you want to
establish with the run is to run the clock more
and get out of there. It almost seemed like he
doesn't care anymore. He just he has a case of
the don't cares at Oklahoma State. Maybe he still does

(27:39):
some but it didn't look like it last Saturday. All right, Now,
I come back to this game. Southern cal comes all
the way to the Central time Zone to play Perdue.
Barry Odom is the new coach at Purdue and they've
won a couple of games against lesser competition. The first
couple of weeks, USC a blowout win over Georgia Southern.
Last week, they've got a high powered offens with Lincoln Riley.

(28:01):
A couple of interesting things though about this game with Purdue.
One of them is that USC has not been very
good in their first true road game. In fact, in
their first true road game in the last ten tries,
they are only three and seven ats Southern can. Some

(28:24):
of this is Lincoln Riley Southern Cal only three and
seven against the number Jason and audience in their last
ten true road games in there, how about let's go
next level in their last eleven road games out of
the Pacific time zone. That means not playing old pac
twelve opponents, not playing Oregon Washington, not playing UCLA, not

(28:47):
playing the Pacific time zone when they go on the
road at least one time zone over and here they
are two time zones over. USC just two to nine
on the road ats two and nine. I don't think
Purdue wins the game, but I think this is closer
than twenty points. Care to talk me off the ledge?

(29:09):
On three Dog Thursday Trojans at Purdue.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
No, Actually, I was very close to taking that. You
and I were talking earlier in the day. I was
thinking of taking that. Here's one more little nostalgia. It's
not gonna probably matter on the field, But Danielson the
CBS in the booth went to Purdue. He's retiring. Yes,
this is probably his last visit to Purdue on the
air as part of this whole the CBS broadcast. So

(29:34):
a little, just a little, one more little nugget there
for for the CBS screw when you're watching over the weekend.
Danielson don't have a vested interest in this game, and
Otam is a defensive guy, so he's typically a defensive coach,
so I would surmise he'd be able to keep this
game close.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Think would.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
At least USC's leading the country in per carry rushing
through three weeks, so so one thing to keep an
eye more running. Guess what happens when they run the
ball the clock runs?

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Well, of course, yes, they're not throwing.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
The ball fifty times a game like they were with
Caleb Williams. They're running the ball more. So I could
definitely see less a couple less possessions in perdue if
you make a couple stops, or if you can at
least get to twenty offensively. If they can score twenty,
I think you're gonna be good to go in this game.
I don't know if us he's gonna score forty, but
if Perdue can score twenty, I think you're golden.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
I like that Golden. Also one of the colors there,
the gold and the black. I just looked at this
because CBS in Week two last year had Notre Dame
and Purdue, and it was a sixty six to seven
game of kids, and it's part of why the previous
coaching staff got fired a year ago. So Barry Otam
now in there again. This is the CBS two thirty Central,

(30:52):
three thirty Eastern Time Big ten game. Let's hope for
Gary Danielson's sake, it does not become a blowout like
last week with his alma mater. I mean they were
into the blowout material forty five minutes into the game
last week for Oregon and Oklahoma State. They deserve a
better game here with purduing sc any final thought on this.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Little nugget too powers on sports podcast this week, I'm
gonna have David Moulton. Who's David Moulton. David Moulton works
with Danielson in Nestler as part of the broadcast.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
On both in the booth and he's also on the.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
Monday night broadcast with Aikman and Bucks. So we talk
about just all those skins that go into the broadcast.
So check out Powers on Sports. Got David Moulton, who's
a wide ranging media guy that's worked in that worked
with Danilson for twenty years now with Danielson, that's cb it.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
So again Powers on Sports. Wherever you get podcasts. And
while we're here, while we're doing all of this, let
me show you my savvy because you can also find
the Florida Football Insiders podcast as well, Everything Florida College Football.
What an upset for USF over Florida, whether you're talking
about the USF matchup with Miami UCF and the Big

(32:03):
twelve Florida State off to the great start, anything Florida
College Football, Florida Football Insiders. As we say on the
screen for the video audience, wherever you get your podcasts,
go find Jason and Florida Football Insiders with the podcast.
We love it. Keep up the good work there with
that job. All right, Shall we continue with a couple
more underdogs before we get out of here. We did

(32:25):
not select these as underdogs, but at noon Eastern time
in Atlanta, it's Clemson and Georgia Tech. Clemson losing for
the first half of the game to Troy out of
the Sun Belt, had a weather delay, came back and
won the game. They're playing now in Atlanta. In the
ACC opener, Clemson a short favorite. Any quick thought on

(32:46):
Clemson Georgia Tech.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
We saw Georgia Tech be Colorado a couple of weeks
ago on that Thursday night to open the year. And
Tech is a gritty, gutty team. I like this coach
Brent Key. Haynes King has been there. They run, they're aggressive,
they got a they're a hard nose. Be careful here,
Clemson club Nick has not played great so far. Nope,

(33:08):
you know, be careful here.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Uh. Georgia Tech the win at Colorbado week one. Haines
King was hurt at the end of that game, didn't
play last week. They saved him up for this week
and the matchup against Clemson. And that's an early game
on ESPN at noon Eastern time in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
This could be a tiebreaker situation to get to the
A SEC title game the winner of this game, because
remember Miami doesn't play either one of these teams in example,
so this could be a you know, got a nugget.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Dabo is nine and oh in the last nine meetings,
not all of those against Brent Key, obviously, he's only
been there a couple of years. Nine and oh straight
up against Georgia Tech seven and one in the ATS,
seven to one and one in the ATS in those
nine games. So let's see what that's worth for Clemson.
Georgia Tech up the road up seventy five in Knoxville

(34:01):
from Atlanta. That's Georgia and Tennessee on ESPN. Georgia was
kind of in another game that had a weather delay
of about ninety minutes with Austin p They beat him,
but they only beat him twenty eight to three. They
didn't put fifty points on the board. Tennessee has looked
out standing offensively the first two games. This is Tennessee
at home. Does it surprise you that this is not

(34:25):
more of a pick them? Or maybe Tennessee favored? On
three Dog Thursday, Georgia a three and a half point favorite.
That surprised me a little bit, but it didn't surprise
me enough to want to take Tennessee. Your thoughts, Jason,
I think Gunner Stockton has been underwhelming so far and
that offense has not been great.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
I think Georgia's defense is gonna be fine. But again,
Joey Aguilar has overperformed what we thought. You know, we
weren't sure he was even gonna win the job at Tennessee.
By the way, are they happy now that they no
longer have Nico and they have Aguilar and less money?
And you know, seems like he's he's a playton Nico.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Ayam mile Leva taking less money to now take another
loss last week with UNLV. We had that on three
Dog Thursday on the program last week. But yeah, Tennessee
hasn't missed a beat with Aguilar. To your point, Yeah,
I just.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Think this will be a good This will be a
hard fought game. I think Tennessee will be in the game.
Their defense is usually pretty good. Georgia again new wide
receiver corp can Scunn or Stockton make plays against that
Tennessee defense on the road. He really hasn't had a
true big time SEC road game that he's had to
contend with. So interesting, interesting game there in Knoxville.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Budd Yrby Kirby smart as won eight straight games against
Tennessee and the different coaches. I gotta see if it
continues in Knoxville, they're going to be hype. Georgia has
Alabama next week too good or in two weeks good
good Lord on the beginning of the schedule with playing
Tennessee and then playing Alabama. One more game that we

(35:51):
are not officially taking on three dog Thursday. But let's
discuss Notre Dame favored by six and a half with
Texas A and M. Notre Dame off the week after
losing the heartbreaker at Miami. A and M has won
a couple of games early on in the year against
lesser competition. This is in South Bend. This is Saturday
night NBC game. I believe seven thirty Eastern time, either

(36:14):
seven or seven thirty Eastern time. Any quick thought here
and I got a couple of nuggets. Anything from you.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Remember they played last year in College Station Hard fought
a twenty three to twenty game. It was a three
point three.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
That was the opener, right, That was the opener for
u Elko.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Elko's first game at A and M. Elko knows this
running this team well. But here's what I would say.
Jeremiah Love got very few carries against Miami. You are
going to see a lot of Jeremiah Love and that
running back corps against A and M, who gave up
some yards against Utah State. Ken Marcel Reid the quarterback
for A and M. He's played better these first two games,

(36:49):
but road game, big environment. Is he up to the
task against that good Notre Dame defense to score points
in the passing game?

Speaker 2 (36:58):
A couple of nuggets here. Again, they played the opening
game last year. That's part of Notre Dame now being
seven and three in their last ten games ats against
the Southeastern Conference. That includes beating A and M at
the beginning of the year at Kyle Field and then
beating Georgia in the College Football Playoff. So again, for
what it's worth, they're seven and three against the SEC

(37:20):
against the number the last ten times they've played them.
Marcus Freeman, heck of a coach about CJ. Carr, the
freshman quarterback, didn't look like a freshman in the game
at Miami. A fascinating matchup in prime time. To close
it out with Notre Dame in a and m we
gave you some thoughts and some info on that. One
more time. Let's roll call what we have here on

(37:44):
three dog Thursday, Jason goes first with Arkansas State getting
the twenty. With Iowa State that is coming Saturday afternoon
in Jonesboro, Iowa State willingly playing a Sun Belt team
on the road. Is this going to be dangerous like
it was for West Virginia at Ohio last week? Stay tuned.
I like Arizona backing up the Friday night to beat

(38:04):
Kansas State out right. I'll take the point in a
half to drop Kansas State. Holy count a one to
three already on the season, and Arizona would be three
to zero after a bad end of their season last year. Jason,
you take USF at Miami in the afternoon in South
Florida with the seventeen and a half points large number, obviously,
second week in a row. Does Miami whear him down?

(38:25):
Jason doesn't think so. He thinks they keep it close
enough for the bulls at Miami and my Lord brother
Powers we live in Tampa Bay. Quick comment. If if
USF wins this game, they I mean, it's not unprecedented
in the two thousand and seven season Jim Levitt's Bulls
with Matt Grothey at quarterback. There's a name knocked off

(38:46):
Auburn at Auburn who was a top fifteen team. Beat
rich Rod in West Virginia in that seven season, which
was West Virginia's only loss going into the very end
of the year with the backyard brawl, West Virginia was
in the top ten. They later beat Butch Davis and
North Carolina. North Carolina wasn't ranked, I don't think, but

(39:06):
USF got all the way up to number two in
the country with those wins, so it would not be
unheard of for South Florida to get into the top ten,
if not the top five. They win this game, they
got to be a top ten team one more time.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
Absolutely, there's no doubt about. They've had the hardest first
three game schedule in America and they're about to the
two and oh and have a chance to be three
and oh. And again, there'll be some South Florida people
there in the building at Harvest, so there'll be plenty
of people making the drive from Tampa down there, about
a four hour drive. Be careful Miami again, Miami's got
the better team. I think, but South Florida has shown

(39:42):
in the trenches importantly they can hold.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Up all right in the final games we're taking. I've
got West Virginia in the backyard brawl, getting the six
and a half with Pitt that one Saturday afternoon in Morgantown.
Jason goes Saturday night in Palo Alto the wine and
cheese crowd. Will there be five thousand people at this
game with Boston College? Jason dun't care. He cares about

(40:06):
Stanford keeping it closed. Plus twelve and a half in
that matchup, and we will wrap with one final underdog
from me that's produced Saturday afternoon in West Lafayette getting
twenty with USC. Just keep just hanging there, Barry Odam
and the Boilermakers hanging there with Southern cal I again repeat,
they've not been great in their road opening games against

(40:30):
the number. They haven't been great outside the Pacific time
zone when playing road games. Let's see if that works
in produce favor for Saturday afternoon. Any final thoughts from you,
my friend, as we close things out on three Dog Thursday,
anything we've left out or otherwise.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
A game I know we considered, both of us thought about,
but didn't end up taking it. Florida better come to
play Saturday, not in LSU, because if they get beat
soundly this week on the road in LSU and next
week at Miami soundly Billy going into a bus, there
could be some big problems in Gainsville with Billy Napier.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
This is the kind of game, though, where they keep
it close, they hang in. They beat LSU a year ago,
but let's see. Because LSU is riding high off the
win over Clemson to begin the year, they didn't play
very well LSU last week relatively against bad competition. And
again that game is coming up on Saturday night in
Death Valley. Let's see what happens with LSU and Florida

(41:25):
in that matchup. Again follow him at JPO Sports, the
Powers on Sports podcast, and again one more time as well,
find the Florida Football Insiders podcast. Wherever you get podcasts,
find Florida Football Insiders. Jason's got great stuff every week
with his guests, etc. Talking Florida, Florida State, Miami, usf UCF,

(41:47):
All the Florida college football teams on Florida Football Insiders.
We plugged for that one more time publicly again, thank
you Gary Seegers for letting us hang out. We sleep
on the sofa every week. As I like to say
on three Dog Thursday on the Winning Cures Every Day platform. Jason,
good luck with your underdogs. Have a blast this week.
Thank you for being here with me again. Brother, Let's go,
let's go get it with the underdogs. We thank you
