Speaker 1 (00:07):
Football fans, it's time to go on the record with
this week's matches in pro and college football. With just
one catch. We're only interested in underdog who can keep
it close, if not pull the outright upset. Time to
find out. It's three Dog Thursday. Now here's your host,
(00:27):
TJ Reeves.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, we are back aboard and ready to go with
another addition of three Dog Thursday as part of the
Winning Cures Everything YouTube platform and on the podcast on
all the podcast outlets. I am merely the somewhat capable
host TJ Reeves. Hello to Jason Powers, my wingman here
on three Dog Thursday. Always good to have you. As
(00:49):
Gary Segers, let's us cohabitate here on his platform. My friend,
it is always good to be with you, but especially
when we're off of a five and one week last
week on three Dog Thursday day holding to start the year.
How are you feeling, brother? For another week?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
My Stanford Cardinal two touchdown underdog win the game out
right on the West Coast, baby, to finish off a
great week.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
We had some hairy dogs last week, you said, Stanford.
I don't know how or why at zero and two
they should be in one of my underdogs, but they
were as a double digit doggie. They come through. Thank
you to Purdue plus the twenty with USC for me.
You also cashed with Arkansas State getting twenty some big
time long shot dogs last week, and we're ready to
(01:34):
do this all over again.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
We're looking for three of them each. Sometimes we might
overlap as the year goes on, but we do our
best to give three each in college football against the number.
Usually it's the road team. It's the last thought of team,
at least by the odds makers. And we have fun
doing this. So thank you for finding us. Thank you
again to Geary, who is just killing it with the
content on Winning Cures Everything dot Com. I had a
(01:59):
blast all day on Wednesday going through all of his
stuff and how educational it is with his analytics. I mean,
he's got two or three games where his analytics and
his numbers show the spread difference at like seven or
eight points. You know what that means when you start
seeing that, start playing the number that's currently out there.
(02:21):
If Gary's telling you that the number is six or
seven or eight points off, wow, that's crazy on his analytics.
So we love it, so thank you. One more time
to Gary. For that, you and I are going to
be ready to roll our sleeves up. By the way
here on three dog Thursday. Again, I will remind you
that the show here for the first three weeks five
(02:42):
and one, last week twelve five and one, Jason Powers,
I went to public school. But that's right at seventy
one percent picking games.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's called chechin cash in your pocket?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Should I mentioned that? On the three weeks of three
dog Thursday? The host I'm gonna mention this quietly is
seven and two. That's seventy eight percent against the number.
That means am I setting myself up for an over?
I could be setting myself up for an over three.
I don't want to be over for three, but seven
and two. To this point, we're making you money on
(03:13):
three dog Thursday. If you're utilizing this again, don't gamble
the rent money, don't gamble the house payment, don't gamble
the light bill. Just have fun with all of this
like you and I do on three dog Thursday with
the Doggie, simply to cover where do we want to begin?
Do you want to begin in the big ten. Let's
begin in the big ten? Shall we? With that traditional
(03:34):
Michigan Nebraska matchup in the newfound Big Ten. Although Nebraska
has now been in the Big Ten for over a decade,
it's becoming a little more normal than USC, UCLA, Oregon,
and Washington being in this conference. But what stands out
here about this matchup CBS National Television. It is at Lincoln,
so you have the home dog, ee Jason Powers. Why
(03:56):
do you like the Huskers for dog number one here
on three Dog Thursday?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
And foremost, I'm hoping our guys that CBS don't have
to endure like a four hour rain delay or whatever
it was at West Lafayette last week, like they had
to for your Purdue boys to cover the number late there.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I mean, there is filling time, and then there is
the Jerry Lewis telethon as a metaphor, because God did
they have to fill some time because the game did
not kick off until after seven Eastern time, three and
a half hours later, and CBS didn't have a backup
game to go to, and the last thing that they
want to do is leave and go to local news, etc.
(04:32):
So they just talked and talked and talked. But you're right,
they deserve to have it. And this is I mean,
this is a Michigan brand name, this is Nebraska. Who's
three and zero? What else drew you to this?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Remember No Sharon wore this week the second game of
his suspension. Biff Pogi, who's the He's been in that program.
He was a disaster at Charlotte. The return of Michigan.
He's going to be the interim coach. Remember what we
saw a couple of weeks ago with Michigan on the
road at Norman, Oklahoma defense was stifling and they shut
down that Bryce under you know, the true freshman Bryce Underwood.
(05:06):
They shut down that offense. What I like in this
game is Dylan Reyola similar to John Mattier experience he
played last year, right, and that Dana Holgerson is now
the OC at Nebraska. That that kind of wide open,
kind of similar to that Oklahoma offense. And again I
think this Nebraska defense year three of matt rule. If
you look at matt rules history, year three has been
(05:29):
a big year Temple Baylor, not so much with the
Carolina Panthers, but on the college world. I think this
is a great spot for Nebraska. That fan base has
been starving to get off to a great start with
a big win.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I think.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
I know they struggled at home against since the in
Week one they rolled against I believe was Akron last
week shut him out like sixty eight to nothing. I
just think I'll take the little more experience at quarterback.
Home crowd is going to be a factor in link
and I can promise you. And I think the Black Shirts,
they don't have to be unbelievable, but I think they'll
be good enough. Give me Nebraska going against Gary Seeger,
(06:08):
I'll take the home doggie. Give me Nebraska plus the
one and a half.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Gary was talking a lot about this game. By the way,
I just looked last week in our five and one,
all five of the winners were all home doggies. Jason's
going right back there when Nebraska. The only thing I'm
not trying to talk to you out of it. That's
a bit concerning. They've never beaten Michigan, and Michigan with
Harball in the Connor Stallion signs stealing days of twenty
twenty three demolished them for whatever it's worth. Beat him cheaters,
(06:36):
cheaterster cheater, cheater. They beat him like forty eight to
seven two years ago. Now that's two years ago. Harball's
long gone to the NFL. Sharon Moore now there coaching
this team, although he is suspended. He is suspended for
the third and the fourth game, which I still don't
understand wasn't suspended for the first two, suspending for the
Big ten opener here, So let's see what Bryce Underwood
(06:58):
looks like in Michigan. Run the ball. You don't think so?
You think this is Nebraska here in the matchup with
Michigan for underdog number one. That means I will go
next in the batting order, and that is the Black
Knights of the Hudson Army. When last we saw them,
Jason Powers, it was two weeks ago in Manhattan, Kansas,
when they absolutely smothered Kansas State and smothered the clock,
(07:22):
simultaneously holding the ball for over forty minutes in the game.
In the second half, they went on two drives of
more than ten minutes to score a touchdown and really
took the air out of the ball. The figuredive basketball
term like the four corners, their run offense and the
triple option is a problem. And for the life of me,
now they've had a bye week, I know North Texas
(07:45):
destroyed Washington State last week, but they have to go
to West Point. Wrong team favored here at noon Eastern
time on the Hudson in upstate New York. Give me
Army plus the two and a half. They had the
heartbreaker Jason in the double overtime loss to Tarleton State
to begin the year. They bounce back. They've had it
(08:06):
off week. Do you do you want to help me
on how North Texas? If this game is Army minus three,
I wouldn't touch it. I wouldn't touch it with North
Texas and I wouldn't lay it with Army. But this
is Army simply to win as an underdog. I gotta
have that. I gotta have it.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
And this is one of those scenarios where again high
flying North Texas. This is ball control central right here.
This could be methodical six to seven minute drives, less
possessions in the game, which favors Army again on the
Hudson River. You never know when could be a factor
up there.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I'm with you. I like Army. Monkett is a great coach.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
That's a guy to keep an eye on as far
as coaching hires in this offseason. With Virginia Tech now open, Yeah,
speak an eye on a guy like.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Monkin there right.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Interesting that it was a fourteen to three win by Army.
By the way, I was on the opposite side of
year ago. I took North Texas at home as a
home dog. And so now you know, like it's a
political season, I can change parties, I can change affiliations.
Let me go the other way. I'll go Army as
the home dog with North Texas at noon Eastern Time,
eleven am Central. So that is doggy number one.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Real quick promote our promote the podcast and talks about
the Service Academies.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yes, Yards and Stripes with our guys Pryce Atkinson and
Steve Carney. Go find Yards and Stripes wherever you get podcasts,
search it up, College Gridiron, Coast to Coast podcast feed again.
Army and Navy are both really good again this year
and Price and Steve are all over it with the
Service Academy Football podcast. Price and his guests and co
(09:42):
host have been doing this for about seven or eight years.
They'll have much more on the games this weekend with
Service Academy Football. The emphasis on Army, Navy and Air
Force Yards and stripes. That's an excellent plug wherever you
get podcasts and the college Gridiron Coast to Coast podcast feed,
which mister powers I we'll tell you more about that
in a little bit great college football podcast with all
(10:04):
kinds of different flavors from the South to the Big Ten,
to the West, to Texas to the service academies, etc.
Let's move on, shall we. All right? Speaking of service academies,
Bill Belichick long ago grew up around Annapolis and the
Navy football program, but he hasn't been a college coach
until this year. All right, we saw them very prominently
(10:24):
get annihilated by TCU, who at one point scored forty
one unanswered points on them, blowout laws for Bill Belichick
in the opening game. So since then, Belichick and company
now have won two games with Charlotte. Speaking of Charlotte,
where they weren't very good, they were okay with Geo
Lopez and the offense only won the game like twenty
(10:46):
to three, ten to three and a half. Now, they
were much better against an FCS school Richmond last week.
They should have been better. North Carolina is spending like
over fifteen million dollars in nil on players. They should
be better than Richmond. They won that game easily. What
has drawn you now to this out of conference matchup
against Central Florida UCF three thirty Eastern time on Fox.
(11:10):
Coming up. Why do you like North Carolina here? Jason
Powers A couple things.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
I think one.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
I think again, the further we get into this season,
I think you'll see a better fundamentally sound North Carolina team,
more chemistry and against I think seventy new players if
I remember seeing that number, somewhere around seventy new transfers
in and all that new system. I think again, Belichick's
never been one of those kind of guys. Even in
the NFL. He had a lot of those twenty three
(11:37):
kind of wins where they just got enough.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
They enough to win the game.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
He's been a tremendous underdog coach in his career in
the NFL. Very few times, I know the Patriots have
been underdogs, but when they have, they've been very live.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I think this is a spot.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Here goo Lopez getting a little better each week. He's
not great. Jordan Ship the running back, remember that name,
he's their lead running back. Yeah, I think he ran
for like one hundred and forty five yards last week. Again,
I know it was Richmond, but I think you're gonna
see Carolina get a little bit better. And here's the
other part is I don't think UCF is anywhere near
ready to be super competitive in the Big twelve.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
This is a rebuild year.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Scott Frost, Tavin Jackson, new quarterback, They're coming off a
bye week.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I get it, so that'll help them. But I just
think six and a half is too many.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
I could definitely see this being a twenty four to
twenty one kind of game, a lower scoring game because
of the Belichick defense and the lack of offensive explosion
out of North Carolina. But I'll take Belichick in six
and a half all day against a rebuilding UCF team.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
All right. Interesting now that they're going to get into
their ACC schedule where they do play Clempson coming up,
but they don't play SMU, they don't play Florida State
North Carolina.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
So the winnable game here, you gotta win these the
ones that are winnable.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Here is winnable game. You know.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
One of the footnotes, and we've always said this because
Bill Belichick was a below a fifteen game, below five
hundred coach with the Cleveland Browns and the New England
Patriots without that Tom Brady guy. The biggest keys for
him is keep it close in Brady will win us
the game. That isn't gonna happen on the college level. Here,
Let's see what happens. The other kid that's interesting, he
(13:11):
had a big game for whatever it's worth against Richmond
is Demon June. That's his name, like the month of June.
Juju June is his nickname. Is he gonna is Juju,
gonna have a big game. Stay tuned for North Carolina
at UCF, and you're right, they better go get this
game North Carolina because there's a lot of people still
skeptical about whether Belichick, and I'm one of them, can
(13:33):
get it done. I have said all along, three or
four wins, three or four wins while everybody else was
going gaga, and my phone was blowing up on that
opening touchdown drive Labor Day night about how stupid I
am and how wrong I am, And then they gave
up forty one points in a row.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
So four weeks later, I think you're gonna see more sounds,
more efficiency, And I don't think UCF's great at this
point by any means, so I think this is vulnerable.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Pick the spot we love this sp On three Dog Thursday,
Power says, this is too many points. I love the
spot with North Carolina here in the matchup. All right,
I owe you another underdog and you want me to
do it, don't you. You love the props for the
video audience the podcast audience can't see it. But da
da da da da da da Dad Go Tigers Go.
I will put the hat on and say Memphis Tigers
(14:20):
are my second underdog this game. Also at noon eastern
eleven AM in the River City at what was the
Liberty Bull It's now the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is
now what they're calling it. It's with the new sponsors.
They're still they're still renovating it. Capacity is even lower
than what it used to be. It used to be
like a sixty thousand capacity at the replica of old
(14:41):
Tampa Stadium. The Liberty Bowl was the original Tampa Stadium
was kind of the replica. So the Liberty Bowl finally
being renovated, like fifty years later. Over the last two
or three years, serious renovation going on. They're not done
with it yet. It's limited. The tickets Hot ticket because
Arkansas obviously has a huge fan base in Memphis a
lot of alumni. I like the Tigers and their ability
(15:02):
to run the football. They have run it well in
the wins over Georgia State and last week over Troy.
I know Arkansas has got Tavin Green, the long lanky quarterback,
duel threat, can run it, can throwit. He's their leading
rusher for Arkansas. Now, they were gonna shootout with ole
Miss last week Jason Powers and lost in a high
scoring game. I just think this is too many points
(15:23):
for the alma mater and it means everything to them
to try to get a win against the SEC. A
thought or two on Memphis in Arkansas early Saturday.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Again, one thing I'd be a little nervous about here,
this is a game Sam Pittman needs to win. You know,
there's a lot of talk about Pittman being on the
on the hot seat.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
You know this isn't This would not.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Be a game that would go well with the with
the Arkansas faithful if they lose in Memphis to to
a what they consider to be a lower level team
than they are. So uh but again, Taylor Green, the quarterback,
Bobby Patrino, the oc back to back road games I
think helped your Memphis Hires here again, the crowd will
be electric. Border war kind of game there for them
(16:02):
as well. And it's also the big brother coming to
down who they want to stick to the SEC.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
And is it a sandwich game for Arkansas who played
Ole Miss last week? They got Memphis, but then they
got notre game next week? So is it a let
down look ahead type thing here for the Memphis Tigers.
Couple of other numbers, Memphis by the way, eight and
two in the last ten games as a home underdog
(16:30):
against the number eight and two. It goes all the
way back to twenty sixteen, so that goes back to
Mike Norvel before the current coach, Ryan Silverfield. Sam Pittman
obviously wasn't around at Arkansas. Memphis and Arkansas have not
played since William Jefferson Clinton was the president in nineteen
ninety eight. That's the last matchup in the series. Arkansas
(16:52):
won the last two meetings in the series. Stay tuned.
Arkansas by the way, just two seven and one in
their last ten as a road favorite, two seven and one,
as they are favored on the road here. Not all
of that is Sam Pittman. Some of that is previous
coaches et cetera.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Get it with the hook, get it with the the
key numbers of six or seven were beyond a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
You're still good here with Memphis. Memphis has pulled a
couple of these upsets, beating Ole Miss not once but
twice in the early game, early in the season, early
in the day. It's early in the season, early in
the day. What a battle for Memphis and Arkansas coming
up on ABC? How about that at noon eastern eleven
(17:42):
AM in the River City. Our buddy Dave will Oshan
is the thirty five year voice of the Memphis Tigers,
and he said, listen, tough ticket, this is what it's
all about. Because you get this win, you now set
yourself up in the whatever it is group of six.
I guess they're calling on who's the team that's gonna
make the college football play a big credibility game for Memphis.
(18:04):
I think they get it done, all right. So I'm
done pimping and promoting the Memphis Tigers. Let's do this
here as part of three Dog Thursday. We always love
Gary Seekers telling you more about how to get into
all these games at Memphis, Arkansas game Nebraska and Michigan.
All these different games that we're going to talk about.
Let's find out more from one of our sponsors about
that right now. Yes, ind gonna be a tough ticket
(18:27):
in a lot of different places. We're gonna make mention
of Auburn and Oklahoma later on Miami. And good luck
getting the better seats again if you're trying to get
a pair of them in the lower level for these
bigger games. Good luck trying to get that for under
three hundred dollars. Use the promo codewce and use it
(18:49):
as often as you want. Use it for the NFL games,
the Major League Baseball playoffs, concerts, Use as many times
as you want. WCEE ten for a purchase of one
hundred and more, WCE twenty for a perch three hundred
or more. Think smarter tickets, smarter to get in the game.
All right, Where are we going next? We each have
an underdog to get it done. What do you like?
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Are you going back to the big chen here? My friend?
Once more? Is this Illinois as a doggie with Indiana?
Tell me more?
Speaker 4 (19:20):
I know I'm actually going against one of my alma maters,
my graduate school alma mater, the Hoosiers.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Again, this is a again.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
This was the team from last year that came out
of nowhere Indiana Kurt Signetti. Remember they have a new
quarterback this year, the guy from Cal for France, Fernando Mendo.
Is it Fernando, Yes, who did played really well at
Cal last year.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
He's now at Indiana taking over that for Nathan Rourke.
And you got Illinois. How many years has Luke Altmeyer
played college football? TJ Reeves?
Speaker 2 (19:51):
I think he's like he got a new two or
three year deal. I think he's gonna keep playing with
the twenty thirties.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Seems like he's been there. I actually saw a story
about a kid at Nebraska. This is his seventh year
at Nebraska, one of their linebackers.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
But Luke Altmeyer.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
A lot of people thought two weeks ago Duke was
gonna get them in Durham. And they went in there
and they smoked Duke. That game was closed for a
couple quarters to the halftime. In Illinois very impressively manhandled
Duke in the second half. I think that was a
very emphatic performance. Hank Baby remember that name wide receiver.
By the way, Luke Altmeyer through three games, eight touchdowns,
(20:28):
no interceptions throw over seven hundred yards, so he's not
turning the ball over. We know Belam has got a
background of offensive line play, running the ball. I think
this is a balanced team here. I think Signetti they've
got a good team in Bloomington. That'll be a tough environment.
That's a Saturday night night game. I believe Evil and
Blackledge will be there with NBC. They will be amped
(20:50):
up in Bloomington. I promise you that. But I think
this is a close game. I think this is a
tight game. Illinois's number nine in the country. I'm just
gonna take the point here. I believe in Brett Beilama,
a lot of experience on that Illinois team.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Give me Illinois and the six.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
They may not win the game, but I think this
is going to be a one possession game either way.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
A couple of interesting numbers depends on what you like
in the last five meetings in this series. And that's
not all Signetti. It is a lot of Beilama. Recently,
Indiana four and one ats against Illinois. However, Illinois, if
I got my numbers yet correct from Gary Gary going
(21:33):
through all this great stuff on the Winning Cures platform,
Illinois is twelve and three against the number as a
road underdog in the last fifteen tries twelve and three.
A lot of that is Beilama in the last fifteen
games as a road underdog, which they are here. Fascinating
(21:55):
matchup in primetime early on in the year for Illinois
and Indiana. And you say the ali and I are
gonna get it done on three dogs.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
This could be your fourth spot in the playoff, potentially
out of the Big ten here, the winner of this
game will have a tiebreaker advantage. Obviously, this could be
outside of Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State. This could be
the fourth team that could slide into the ten or
eleven seed in this playoff if they go ten to two.
(22:26):
Like I think they have a possibility of doing either
one of these teams.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
But I like the Aliini.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Luke Altmeyer been there one hundred years. Give me the
ali Ni plus the five and a half.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
All right again, you go second Big ten doggie with
taking Nebraska early on on three Dog Thursday. That's the
voice of Jason Powers. If you're only hearing us on podcast,
come find the video. As part of what we're doing
here on three Dog Thursday, we remind you again that
we're part of the Winning Cures Everything platform and you
(22:57):
can come find the show on video. If you're watching
us on video. A reminder that we're in podcast form Apple, Spreaker, Spotify,
wherever we get podcasts. Take us in your air, podge,
your ear budge, your bluetooth, etctera with three dog phare
us with your friends, share it with us. Yes, do
I need to put it up yet again here? I mean,
(23:17):
I don't know how many more times that we get
to brag about this stuff. But we make mention again
that we were five and one last week. We are
twelve five and one through three weeks, folks, so we've
been winning some games early on. Tell the peeps about us,
particularly you're interested in the underdogs and the cover simply
to cover, don't have to win. And by the way,
I make mention it again, if the lines go up
(23:37):
or down after Thursday, you and I are going with
a Thursday number. So if the line if Army suddenly
is even, or a pick them and I got them
plus two and a half such as life, I got
them plus two and a half, or a laid injury
right right, or if Illinois unfortunately for Jason suddenly is
getting seven or eight points because of an injury. By Saturday,
that didn't matter. You got them at five and a half.
(23:58):
It works both ways. The number is the number on
three dog Thursday. If it goes up or down, we're
taking what the number is on Thursday. I don't think
we've talked enough Big ten yet. Let's talk a little
more Big ten. Let's talk Purdue boiler Makers, boiler up.
You mentioned the long delay before the USC game last
Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening, three hour weather delay before
(24:20):
they finally got under way just before seven Eastern time.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
We were watching some of that, We were slogging.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Through that, and so as a result, I don't know
if it affected uscymore as the road team. Purdue was
in the game in the second half. Now USC got
out twenty to three, but Perdue got a couple of touchdowns.
They were in the game. But then you had the
big guy interception. You had the three hundred and eighty
pound defensive tackle, I mean every bit of three seventy
(24:48):
five tremendous play to grab the ball out of mid
air on a deflective ball and then rumble the other
way for about sixty yards for a touchdown, back breaking
play for Purdue is my point on that. Still they
stayed within the number. They stayed within the twenty against USC.
Now we have Notre Dame. Jason, I need your help please.
On three Dog Thursday, Notre Dame's record would be through
(25:10):
two games? What would Notre Dame's record be? How are
they still in the top twenty five? Besides the fact
that it says n d on the jersey and the
gold dome on the helmet and touched I saw you
looking over top of them down Jesus, who else is
OZ and two still in the top twenty five? If
it's not Notre Dame? What I mean? What's up with that?
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Uh? Here's what Here's what I will say.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
They've lost two games by four points against two top
ten teams in the country.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Okay, but I get it. I word lost. I can't
lost those two games. So what makes me think here
that Purdue can't hang plus twenty six and a half?
I again say too many points. If this number was
around like twenty, I'm not touching it. Notre Dame to
win by right around three touchdowns? But can I start
(26:00):
the game plus twenty six and a half with Ryan
Brown able to throw the ball perdue with Barry Odom
played with the motion last week and hung in the
game with USC.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Scre seventeen, TJ score seventy something like that.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
And I know CJ. Carr's been good at quarterback and
uh you love Jeremiah Love running the ball Notre Dame
at home, But they're shell shocked after the Texas A
and M comeback. What a finish? I mean, how many
bonkers games did we have last week? Between the Georgia
Tech last second field goal to be Clemson. You and
I were watching Georgia and Tennessee with the overtime game.
(26:37):
We were watching that together. Backyard brawl win we called
it on three dog Thursday for West Virginia in overtime.
Then the A and M comeback with Notre Dame epic
by the way, fourth down touchdown? Are you kidding me?
To win the game.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
By one and one of the worst, one of the
worst holes I've ever seen by the left guard on
the fourth down play not called in Notre Dame stadium,
I believe.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Remember they picked up the flag on the kickoff return
for the touchdown to give him a lead in the
first place, so they kind of balanced out or they
called they called the penalty on textas.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
How about this, you'll like this nugget, the holder for
Notre Dame who boxed the hold at the end of
the game, which would have made it forty one to
thirty four instead of forty to thirty four.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Tyler Buckner remember that name.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Oh you said started?
Speaker 4 (27:24):
He started a game at Alabama at quarterback, the USF
game that we that we were in the building.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
He started a game at Notre Dame as the starting quarterback.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
He won a national championship in lacrosse, national championship at
Notre Dame. And now he's like the seventh string quarterback
and the holder at Notre Dame. Again, that's a pretty
good little resume for the after career.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Told me he's a descendant of Bill Buckner, threw the
legs for the red side against the Mets in the
World Series. Another bucket, Tyler Buckner. All right, Perdue, here
in this situation, I'm looking for the boiler make to
hang in. This is three thirty Eastern times, Saturday afternoon
on NBC as part of their coverage with the Notre
(28:09):
Dame Broadcasting Company. Perdue and this is revenge, revenge for Purdue.
They were humiliated last year like sixty six to seven
different coaching staff. Now let's see if it will be
a different story. All right, a few minutes left on
three Dog Thursday. Let's run through a couple of other
prominent games. The Fox Big Noon game is Texas Tech
(28:30):
at Utah. The Mormons better get their sleep and get
up early. By the way, they don't believe in caffeine.
No coffee, no caffeine soda. They better be ready at.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Ten a m.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Central time. Hello for the I mean, I'm sorry, ten
am Mountain time for the matchup in Salt Lake Big
twelve game. Texas Tech has blasted three teams at home
in Lubbock. Now they play on the road. Did you know,
Jason Powers, these teams have not met since nineteen seventy three,
covered on three Dog Thursday in nineteen seventy three. They've
(29:03):
never met in Salt Lake, Texas Tech and Utah Utah
brand new member of the Big twelve. All right, your
thought here, Texas Tech the road dog. Utah whacked Wyoming
last week at Wyoming. Strong defense, good offensive line always
for Kyle Winningham thoughts Jason on Utah Texas Tech real quickly.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Texas Tech one of those expensive teams in America. They
spent a ton of money in NIL this offseason.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Over twenty million dollars in NIL money.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Crazy.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
Remember Utah brought over the new quarterback in the OC
from New Mexico.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
I believe, yeah, the mirrors.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
I think Damn Pier is his name here here correct?
Speaker 4 (29:44):
So they've always been a good running offensive line kind
of team. I think this game probably gets one in
the trenches again. Are you a believer in Texas Tech
with all the new players, all the money, I'm gonna
lean Utah at home. That's a very underrated building to
play in, A very loud stadium, eles Echeles Stadium, I
(30:04):
believe you know. Yep, that is a very underrated building
as far as crowd noise and such.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Give me the utes close over the over the Red Raiders.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
What shied me away is Texas Tech again has not
been away from home. By the way, in their last
six road openers, they're owen six straight up owen six ats.
That scares me. And three of those or two of
those are Joey Maguire, the current coach, So that scares me.
Utah only twenty five and sixteen the last forty one
(30:37):
games ats at home. That's a large sample size, but
all of that is Kyle Winningham only twenty five and
sixteen ats at all. I just stayed away from this
game again. Fox will do their pregame show. It's the
big newon Eastern time game. It's ten am Mountain Time.
Let's see if you Utaw is awake for that one. Hey.
Another SEC game that we're interested in is Auburn and Oklahoma.
(30:58):
This is revenge for Auburn. Hugh Freese's team lost at
home in a wild game where Oklahoma had a late
pick six touchdown to help them. Gary was giving out
some great numbers here on this that Oklahoma is only
twelve and nine against the number under Brent Venables in
home games. Twelve and nine ats. Any thought on Auburn
(31:20):
Oklahoma three thirty Eastern time.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Remember this Jackson Arnold, the former Oklahoma quarterback coming back
to Norman. He was basically run out of town by
Venables in that fan base last year. He's the starting
quarterback for Auburn. I like John Mattier here. I think
that Oklahoma defense, you saw them two weeks ago against Michigan,
I think Mateer in that offense will be too much
for that Auburn defense.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
I like Oklahoma here.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
A lot of people think our buddy Timmy b thinks
Oklahoma is a serious threat potentially to win the to
get in the playoff. This game they need if they're
gonna do that. I like Oklahoma at home in Norman.
I think Arnold tries too hard, turns.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
It over a couple times. Give me Mateer inventables against.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
The student and again venables and outstanding defensive coach. Previously
at Clemson with those national titles and now trying to
find his way to Oklahoma, he can make a lot
more friends. He already beat Michigan. If he beats Auburn.
Here he calms everybody down about his coaching, his game
day adjustments. Again, that's an SEC showdown Saturday afternoon and
one more game. Speaking of the SEC, the ESPN College
(32:23):
Game Day crew at Miami for the Canes and Florida.
When last we saw Miami, they were bludgeting USF in
the second half. A long ninety minute weather delay hurt
the Bulls as well. Miami handled it better. They're explosive
what's going on with Florida? DJ Lagway five picks last week?
Is it gonna get any better? Jason and Coral Gables
(32:46):
or actually Miami Gardens where they're playing the game north
of Miami. Is it gonna get any better?
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Here?
Speaker 2 (32:51):
The Gators getting seven and a half for three dog
Thursday purposes any thought very the scary.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Part of Florida's defense played really well and shut down
Nusmayer held them to twenty points in baton Rouge.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
So if the.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Offense can just not turn the ball over, you gotta
get the ball to you your playmakers. I know, La,
we run the ball more. They've got a good running
back corps Eugene Wilson. Get him some touches. Stop throwing
the thirty and forty yard bombs. Make the throws easier
for Lagway. And again, if you're the if Carson Beck
has played terrific for Miami, that's another team bludgeoning teams
(33:25):
in the line of scrimmage. The offensive and defensive lines
for Miami have been very, very good.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
They destroyed them in the opener a year ago. Miami
destroyed Billy Napier and Florida year ago, and the Gator
fans were after Billy Napier right off the bat a
year ago, and now they're after him again. And you
keep pointing to there is a bye week looming, and
if Florida is this pu for the I'm holding my
nose for the podcast audience. Yeah, if they're bad, could
(33:51):
it be eighty six for Napier off the third straight
loss when they're probably inevitably doing this at the end
of the year anyway, what do you think.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
They better not get blown out because there'll be some
serious phone calls Saturday night with the fellas, the boosters
and all the and the ad and all that. Because
after the bye home to Texas and I know that's
not as daunting as it maybe once was. Then you
go to Texas A and M, so it ain't getting
any better and you still.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Got to play Ole miss in Tennessee and Florida State.
Speaker 4 (34:19):
I mean, I mean, what might save Billy Napier is
I don't know, if there's a guy in that staff
who could be the interim head coach that could be
the one safe for Georgia.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
By the way, Georgia too later in the year.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
In Georgia, so other than having to play Texas, and
Texas A and M and Georgia and Tennessee and Ole,
miss and Florida the bye you know, there's nothing to
worry about on the Florida schedule.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
And Mississippi State, who just beat Arizona State. That's not
gonna be a layup.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
You know, Jason waxing poetically about Florida football. We tell
you about the pod Florida Football Insiders. It's wherever you
get podcasts. Check that out. Part of the college Gridiron
Coast to Coast podfeed. Florida Football Insiders covers everything with
the state of Florida in college football from Florida, Florida State, Miami,
(35:14):
usf UCF go in depth. Guess Great Gus, Great Insight
Florida Football Insiders. The podcast audience is seeing that right
on the screen there as part of three Dog Thursday.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Yes, you and I were together last Saturday and we're
watching a game up in Blacksburn, and I made a
comment to you. You called it, I said, Brent, Brent,
prize keys are going to be turned off tonight when
they get destroyed by old dominion.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
And guess what happened and old dominions beating them? And
he did not last the weekend unfortunately. So I mean,
is billying Apier next? Is Billy Napier next on some
of these moves that that might get made all right?
By means? Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
You know, you know some power brokers in this part
of the world with I know there's a big number.
You gotta write Billy Napier in the next thirty days.
But they'll figure it out if they want to be well.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
We guarantee ten million dollars within thirty days of termination.
But there are some people ready to pay that. So
that are over this all right, let's run through by
means of recap. Jason led it off and said, give
me Nebraska against Michigan in the Big Ten plus the
one and a half for three dog Thursday purposes. I
went army as a home dog, getting two and a
half with North Texas. Jason says, Bellacheck and North Carolina
(36:31):
at UCF plus six and a half, give me the
Alma Minor. I won't put the hat back on Memphis
plus the seven and a half with Arkansas could be
a huge Saturday for the Tigers if they get the win.
Jason rapped with another Big Ten team with Illinois getting
five and a half with Indiana, and I took yet
another Big Ten team with Purdue getting twenty six and
a half with Notre Dame. With that, my friend, we
(36:52):
have reached the end of another program here on three
dog Thursday. Anything else that we have left out here
at this stage? Or are we good? Are we ready
for another college football weekend? Are be good?
Speaker 3 (37:06):
I think we are good.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
You got the home opener with your Buccaneers and the fiftiethration.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
I have the throwback orange on. They're going to be
in the white with the creamsicle numbers and the Bucko
Bruce helmet. Sunday with the Jets that's coming on Sunday.
We love the NFL, but we're all about the college
football on Gary's Winning Cures Everything dot com platform, the
YouTube page, et cetera. Brother powers do well. They should
find you as well on the Powers on Sports podcast.
(37:32):
Follow him at JPO Sports. If you're only hearing us,
follow me at bucks Sideline Guy. Follow the show at
three dog Thursday, three Dog Thursday dot com. If I
gotten enough, plugs in again. Gary does an amazing job
with the Winning Cures platform where we're hanging out each
and every Thursday. Good luck with your underdogs. We were
five and one last week. We have standards, we have
(37:52):
expectation for next week. Jason Powers, good luck with the underdogs.
Thank you, my friend. Any time there is Jason Powers,
I'm merely TJ Reeves. Again, thank you for being with
us as part of three Dog Thursday on the Winning
Cuars Everything platform and on the Pot
