Il nome di Luciano Re Cecconi è rimasto impresso nella memoria degli italiani non grazie alle sue gesta sportive ma a causa delle circostanze in cui è morto. Centrocampista della Lazio del primo Scudetto, Re Cecconi era rimasto uno degli ultimi superstiti di quella squadra meravigliosa che nel 1974 sorprese l'Italia intera realizzando un'impresa straordinaria. Idolo dei tifosi biancocelesti, in quel maledetto Gennaio 1977 stava recuperando da un infortunio che lo aveva costretto a mordere il freno per diversi mesi. Giovanni Scarlata ci racconta di cosa accadde in una fredda sera d'inverno, di come un campione amato dai tifosi e sempre pronto alla battuta di spirito venne ucciso all'interno di una gioielleria per quello che è passato nell'opinione pubblica come uno scherzo finito male.
