(00:26):
Find Kevin Ramy joined by Dwayne Rawlinsas we break down Day five with our
booting Wood, Bronze, silver andgold medal moments of the day. Busy
day today when a proverbial passing ofthe torch took place on the short track
side for Canadian short track speed skating. We'll talk about that, We'll talk

(00:50):
about the shortcomings of the short trackand more on this very fun show.
Dwayne, how are you today?I'm Welcolvin, how are you? I'm
pretty good, Pretty good. I'mquite excited. I've been watching some luge
double getting ready for this show. And as much as I love other sports,
the sliding sport, the striking ofmy imagination when I was young still

(01:15):
prevail us to this day and it'salways exciting, surprising, dangerous, risky,
kind of fun to watch. AndI've been enjoying the luge competition today
was a men's double, which isalways fun to watch because first of all,
get like, how is the bottomguy not get crushed by the top
guy? And second of all,it's always fascinating to see how a heavier

(01:37):
luge with two persons actually goes downso quick on that ice sheet. But
I've been enjoying the big battle ofthe day, which is between every luge
and turned thirteen. I was gonnasay, as long as you're not turned
thirteen, we're gonna be fine,Kevin, because turned thirteen has become well,
they all say it's it's unlucky, right, thirteen, that's an unlucky

(01:59):
number. It's been particularly unlucky forall these losures today. But yeah,
I also learned that the heavier luseris supposed to be on top. So
that's something I learned today. It'ssomething it's very counterintuitive, and I really
enjoy it on the CBC and hername escapes me, but she brings a
lot of great information about the luge. He's from our athletes for the team

(02:23):
Canada, and she's saying, oh, the heavier pretty much the bigger of
the two athletes is on top becauseiro dynamically, he just basically covers the
whole thing and makes it easier forit to cut through the air fair enough.
I mean, look, I actuallywas thinking about this today when I
was watching the luge competition. Isthat we make fun of it a lot,

(02:45):
and too much really, because theseare world class athletes and the fact
that it looks a little funny tous, we shouldn't be doing that.
They're incredible what they do, They'reall incredible, everyone's incredible. This entire
Olympics is making me realize just hownot cool I am. Not in shape
where maybe, but the two Toby's, especially from Germany, there's three,

(03:06):
the third straight gold medal for Germany. Germany dominates the entire sport of luge.
The seconds were also Germans that they'vebeen trying to beat the top forever.
Two they were never able to andthey were got close and it was
fun to see what we call Germantwo. Let's call German two in German
one. One is the what arenicknamed the two Toby's because their two first

(03:28):
names is Tobias, so Tobias oneand Tobias two, and they're the two
Tobias and the two Tobiases or theToby's. Three straight gold medals. German
two god like a perfect exit ofof thirteen and they're like, oh,
we figured it out just to seetheir compatriots do the exact same thing but
faster still get that gold medal. It's an interesting aspect. The two or

(03:53):
lose doubles is two run compared tofour on the singles, and it does
make worry very limited margin of errorsfor the sliders. And look, the
Germans are so spectacular of that sport. I think we talked about this the
other day. They're they're incredible atit them. Congratulations to them. I
mean it's it's they're insane. Likeeveryone in the Winter Games, Like the

(04:17):
Winter Games is entirely about someone goinghey, that's the Winter Games, right,
Like can I do that on ice? And if so, how how
safe will I be after? Wellthat doesn't matter. Actually really yeah,
no, no safe safe. Noneof them are safe. But they're amazing.
You know, we talked about shorttrack and I don't know if if
misknew this year, but the audiois being captured in the way that you

(04:41):
hear the blades, like the clickingof the blade on ice so loudly,
and I'm like, wow, thisreally feels like a sharp blade, just
say it sounds sharp And I'm like, oh wait, they're actually like turning
left and they're like ten of themon the ice because there was a final
with ten skaters. How dangerous wasthat. I'm just happy everyone got out
of there safely, fair enough.I mean, yeah, there weren't knives

(05:03):
on their feet, but yeah,it's it's they're all nuts. They're all
nuts, keating, every single oneof them. And we're gonna talk about
the short comings of the short trackin a minute, but let's start with
our medals of the day. Let'sstart with the wood metal, Dwayne,
your wood metal for Day five?Russia? Who's that? I haven't seen

(05:24):
that country in the Olympics yet.Yeah, you know they are oc the
rock whatever, you know, small, what you're cooking, all that sort
of stuff. I just just wantto give them the figure skating. I'm
talking about figure skating. And suddenlythere's a emerging about the r Okay,
the facts are there's an emerging legalissue that has delayed the metal ceremony for

(05:47):
the team figure skating event. Canadafinished fourth, Russia finished first, followed
by Japan and the United States. And I'm mistaking yes, and Canada would
get them the podium. If there'ssomething it was rumored to be maybe a
doping case. No confirmation on that. What is confirmed that it's a legal
issue that could take some time tobe resolved, we hope not. Some

(06:12):
of these athletes from The Rock arescheduled to compete in the single events of
the Men that starts tomorrow, andit will be interesting to see the outcome
and the fallout of what happened inthe team event. Right now, as
things stands, the Metal ceremony hasbeen delayed indefinitely, which means there's something

(06:35):
big happening, and that is withthe terminology used by the IOC and emerging
legal issue. Look, Russia, that's my wood Metal, because you know
what, I just want to enjoythese games. I just want to enjoy
the people that are participating, thatare that are inspiring me. And then

(06:56):
they come around and remind me thatthis is part of the world too,
and yeah, it's not not thatgreat. So The Rock, I'm for
the only time in this entire podcast, I'm going to save their name Russia
because you know what, sometimes youearn your name. Yeah, they're they're
just frustrating me with this this stuffand emerging legal issue. What come on,

(07:17):
it's you know what it is,and it's just sad. It's just
sad. Chorus, watch chorus. We'll see what is the ramification of it.
But fortunately the next sport I'm goingto talk about, it's a sport
that rock. There's not figured reallyquite highly in it. And I'm going
to give my wooden metal to theshortcomings on the short track that we're saved

(07:38):
by one of my metal recipients thatwe'll talk about later today, the proverbial
passing up the torch, one ofthe favorites. Kim Boute fell into heats.
It's unsure right as of now,if this was caused by a moment
of losing your balance on the ice, which can happen a maybe a nick

(08:00):
in the ice that made her loserbalance. It's the last corner of the
heat. She is number one,She's gonna go through the semifinal no problem,
one of the fastest heats too,and coming out of the last corner,
she either took a wrong shock inthe ice. Maybe sometimes there's nick's
happening and she lost balance. Shefell by herself, unfortunately and did not

(08:22):
finish this race and did not moveon. Shanamlay was able to move on,
but in the semifinal he did hemove he did he overtaking that I
actually caused contact that caused some chaosand havoc and he got the pen He
got the penalty and was disqualified.Pascazio also tell had difficulties and did not

(08:45):
make it through after the sumis andso the heat even I believe this,
but which that only one Canadian inthe final Stephen Duba, who was a
young unknown Canadian before today, Sowe'll talk about that later on his moment
of glory. But the shortcomings ofthe short track is my wooden medal for

(09:07):
day five, and it's unfortunate,and it's not a personal aspect. It's
most of them. It's not theirfault. Deal actually cut a bad track
in the ice two that medium losesbalance. But dion Amla and Boute were
favorites respectively and unfortunately it did notpan out for them, and that is

(09:30):
unfortunate for Canada's medal chances at theend of the day too. No,
the short track is a very frustratingsport. Sometimes to water it's exciting,
there's no doubt it's very exciting, you know it is, but it can
be very frustrating too, And it'sbeen particularly frustrating for me this Olympics because
it seems to me every race happenswith something going on. And I'm not
sure if that's the ice or ifit's just random luck, but it's just

(09:54):
you know, I'd rather just watcha race and watch it finish in its
own natural course, right, andit hasn't happened a lot. And yeah,
if the Canadians get knocked out, that's sad, but just in general,
I just want to see them racefairly and without less men, older
men looking at them, you know, a tablet. The one guy yet,

(10:18):
the one guy who's been really busythe judge of the charge, and
judge was that I always feel likehe's gonna fall on the skates. He
never seems quite secure going from pointA to point B on his big skates.
But you know, it is whatit is, and at the end
of the day, that's part ofthe sports. Not we're not we don't
watch like religiously every single weekend shorttracks, but it is a bigger part

(10:41):
of that sport than it is inother sports. But I guess our biases
of other sports comes into play there. Yeah, I don't like the var
The other day, Dwayne loves ourto be something that is non existent,
so that does its existing. Yeah, it shoot it into the sun.
I do enjoy the act that thereferees that these older men there, I

(11:03):
shouldn't stay older because they're pretty muchmy age. But anyway, or wearing
skates themselves, that that that doesamuse me. So and they and you
need to wear the similar skates becauseyou can't just wear like hockey skates because
then you're gonna destroy the ice ina different way. So they have to
wear those big skates that I wouldnot wear. I would be very scared
to cutting my achilles tendon wearing theseskates. Yeah. If I was the

(11:26):
referee, I would absolutely wear mylike thirty year old hockey tacks. I
would wear them. I would wearyou know those uh those anti slip spikes
that you are to walk outside whenit's icy. Yeah, we wear those.
Just make sure that I don't slide. Then I'm gonna stand up right
and no one's gonna put the videoof me falling on YouTube. This is

(11:46):
very Canadian conversations. We're having here, so there you go. But yeah,
no, I do do enjoy that, but I don't enjoy the VR.
I do not enjoy watching people lookat a little tablet all the time.
It's yeah, not what I want, But I did enjoy. Today,
though, is the start of thecurling tournament on the men's side.
The women will start tomorrow and themen's will continue tomorrow. We've seen Canada

(12:07):
start their journey to what could bemaybe their first team gold medal since since
twenty fourteen, which feels like forever. Well, that was fun, and
I do intend to talk to youabout curling from now on almost every day,
just to keep track of what's happeningon the men and the women's side
of the curling world, because Iknow it's something you really enjoy. Time

(12:30):
to move to the gift Trounami portionof today's show, Poutine Medal. Let's
talk about the pootine metal. Dwayne, what is your poutine medal for day
five? You know what my favoritething in the who says Kevin. My
absolute favorite thing is the surprise, brod do we have Do we have the
same metal? Do we have thesame pootine? Yeah? I mean you

(12:50):
tell me is it misso? Isthat who it is? Oh, we
don't well, we're talking about food. It's a great place. It's a
great time to have a dining up. Optunity and Marietta, oh Dine.
Bronze medal in snowbird Cross, unexpectedbronze medal for Canada, and an amazing
course that starts with the Woo Tangsection. Yeah you heard that right,

(13:13):
the woo tank section. Yeah, you know, it's a great part of
every every snowboard cross, every crosstrack. But let's track. It's a
race that was fun to watch, exactly Wu Tang. I'm thinking of asking
my Google to play something after this, but anyway, No, the surprise

(13:35):
Mount Bronze is the absolute highlight ofany of the games. You're watching something,
You're going, this is fun, this is good. You know,
we're all chairing for something, andthen all of a sudden, Canadian wins
a random metal and I love that. I love that so much. It's
my favorite thing ever. So thatthat's my poutine. The entire competition was
awesome too, sort of the witchcompetition. The entire competition was absolutely I

(13:56):
love the head to head race.Say it's what you want to see,
like I mean I get it,like I grew up watching, you know,
one newess down the track, theother goes down the track, and
you're looking at the times and you'relooking to see whether they're having that and
all that technical stuff. Like Iget that may appreciate that, but to
me, when you watch how thehead, it's just so much better over

(14:20):
it, just especially the way thesnowbird cross does it. And we'll talk
about more snowbird cross later intent inmy medals. But for Marietta oh Dyne,
this bronze medal, she now becomesa non name in this country.
She'll become a even bigger name inher sport. And she's twenty four years
old from Prince George, British Columbia. It's her first Olympic medal, it's

(14:43):
canada seventh of the Games, andthat does help her move forward with this
sport, which is a sport thatCanada did well in the history of the
sports and X Games another and thisjust continues, but I have also the
same poutine medals. We can justcontinue a little bit here. For me,
this shows also that even if oneof Canada's metal hope happens or falls

(15:11):
short or a bit low of expectation, just like Test Kritchlow, who finished
just a bit lower than she wouldhave loved to what's what me and passes
this pointing. Anyways, Test Critchlow, who was from British Columbia, also
and she finished sixth after finishing asa runner up in the small final.
But to me, this is agreat competition that shows the new Olympic Games,

(15:35):
the new movement moments moving forward.Absolutely, Yeah, it's spectacularly These
games have been fun, Kevin,I, I'm really enjoying them. These
are great. But yeah, thesurprise bronze is absolutely going to always win.
My poutine metal metal, I wouldI'd like some poutine right now.
I'm actually kind of hungry. Butanyway, that's that's that's that's QUI.

(15:56):
All right, let's go on.We'll take a short break. When we
come back, we'll go through ourbronze, a silver and gold moment for
day five, and we're back onthe five mins podcast talking about Day five

(16:23):
at the Beijing twenty twenty two OlympicGames on a bronze, silver and gold
moments of the day, Dwayne,Let's die with your bronze for day five.
Yeah, this is gonna seem alittle weird when I when I say
it, because it actually could bea wood medal if I really wanted to
be mean about it. And Idon't really like being mean because these are

(16:44):
all incredible people. But I'm goingto give you a bronze medal that it's
not someone who's had a performance hip, someone who's had a career. It's
had an amazing career. And thefact she's still out there and she's still
driving and trying to win medals,it's amazing to me. And I I
don't see this lightly. It's youknow, not a country I cheer for
easily. But nonetheless, I wantto give my bronze medal to MICHAELA shift

(17:07):
ciplon the great skier of the Alpline. Skier. The Alpline events haven't always
been the highlights of the Games tome, and this woman has had such
a great Olympic career. She hasn'thad a result yet, but she's still
out there, she's still driving.Yeah, and if you don't know,
this year has been difficult for MICHAELAschiffriend. She has two DNFs in two

(17:30):
starts. Would they combine ten gatesof slalom that she has gone through.
It has none worked out really wellfor her. She fell and missed the
gates, not even six gates inlast night, you know exactly, And
look that that sucks, is whatit does. But it's been a few
moments like that for the US.Even a cross country skier a couple of

(17:51):
days ago she said, Okay, the gun starts one stride, two stride,
it hits the deck, like allright, goes well, great great
Gays Olympics. Well, you knowprecisely, like, look, she's a
great athlete. That's why I wanteda highlight her, and I wanted to
highlight her in a way that givesher the positive praise that she deserves.
But it's this is the worst gamesfor the US I've ever seen in my

(18:15):
wife like irrelevant, I'm looking forthem. I'm like, all right,
wait, wait a minute, whereare they? That's not going to change
too, because well Red Gerard wasnowhere to be found when it was come
time to see the big air competitionslopestyle too, he was nowhere near the
top. And the little Red we'llsee if he can maybe be the big

(18:36):
Red, which I guess is isSean shan Way, who doesn't want to
be called but you know what, well, you know, he's he's he's
We're gonna talk about Sean Wright alittle bit later, or we might not
because he might not do that.Well, you know, I'm surprised that
I just hope his knees and sohe comes out of there. Okay,
it's the last competition. I guaranteeyou we're gonna talk about Sean Waite a

(18:57):
little bit later. But okay, perfectly, all right, all right,
So Dwayne is talking about MICHAELA.Shefferd and unfortunately he is having any difficult
games. But at least to consoleherself, she can know that Dwayne is
giving her the bronze medal for day. There you go. Which is the
most important medal that exists is clearlythe Five Briggs podcast bronze medal. Sure,

(19:18):
why not? My bronze medal goesto a great moment in the Nordic
Combine. Rarely do we see somethinghappen that we don't expect and Learwi Combine
you never really see like big surprisesat the end. But Norway's Jurgen nyland
Grabac I did practice out a coupleof times before the show was dominating the

(19:41):
ski, well, the jumping eventand he was dominating the ski and you
know, he thought he was gonnahe was gonna do it. Game time
for the last climb of the dayand Vincen's Geiger from Germany. He decided
to not be beats and decided tosurprise everyone with a come from behind moment

(20:04):
on his keys, overtaking the Norwegianand crossing the line in front of mister
Nylon grabak for a Geiger winning andbringing the energy of the stadium all the
way to the red of that Geigercounter and we have a gold medal for
Germany, an unexpected gold medal,a come from behind, walk off type

(20:27):
of home run situation. Good jobGeiger, there you go. Yeah,
walk off. That's that's that's goodanalogy and everyone loves that and loves the
drama of it. It's a greatevent. That way, I would have
thrown my poles, take this keyout and do like a bat flip.
I would do a ski flip.Get at me. That's the type of
moment I want to see. IfI want to go medal, yeah,

(20:51):
i'd be dead. I run,I get naked and run. I don't
know what that tells about me.Damn right, oh wow, that that's
a lot. But anyway, No, that's a great moment for sure,
and I appreciate that a great deal, Kevin. Yes, Um, look,
I mean Germany is always so subtlygood at the Winter Games. Like

(21:11):
you don't expect Germany to be goodat anything, except they're good at everything.
They don't they don't boast, right, they don't brush. They just
just show up to the Winter Games. They're professional about it and they just
get the job done. Yeah.Well, I mean they did boast once
many years ago and oh that's yeah, we're not gonna go there. Well,
yeah, that was a very differenttype of boasting. A right,
Yeah, they tried to boat.Okay, we're making we're not gonna make

(21:36):
that type of jokes and we're gonnamove on to the silver medals, all
right, Dwayne, your Solvern medalfour day five Big Air. I'm just
my silver medal is just did thebig air competition in all of its forms,
because it's so inspiring, it's soamazing, and I love it so
much, and I just I justlooked there every night, going, oh,
while there's people jump, there's peoplestanding at the top of the mountain

(22:00):
and going I'm gonna throw myself downand I'm gonna try and do flips and
stop after I'm in the middle ofthe era, after I go off this
jump. That doesn't make any sensethat no humans should ever, ever,
ever try to go down, AndI just I just want to. I
love them all, They're They're amazing, the big Air people. I just
wanted. Big Air is my silvermedal, Kevin Bigger, all right,
big Air is Dwayne silver medal. My silver medal is an actual silver medal.

(22:23):
I talked about a proverbial passing ofthe torch. Well earlier today,
sure tract be skating. The onlyCanadian in the final of the fift for
the men's. First of all, there's ten skaters, so I was like,
all right, brace for impact.Ten skaters. Who's gonna finish in

(22:45):
the boards? Well in the matshere? Luckily nobody did. I guess
they were all worried of that situation. Stephen Dubras from Canada took the second
spot behind the favorite Day who Longfrom Korea, South Korea, and he's
first nicking in second and the paceis really high, so hig that no

(23:07):
one can actually like overtake anybody ofthe first two, and they're trying,
and there's a Dutch in there whogets like fourth, and they're trying,
but the Joost thing never goes allthe way to the top two, and
Huang and Dubois are just one andtwo, one and two, and then
there's the third which his name iskates Me. But the third one really

(23:29):
gets closed and there's a photo finish. It takes a while to know if
Canada gets a medal of bronze ofsilver, but it turns out that young
Stephen Dubois from Laval, little guyfrom Laval, he was unknown before the
Jay and today he ends up witha silver medal around his neck, probably

(23:52):
the keys to the city in Laval, and becomes the new face of skating
Canada. The short track short trackwas in need of a new male face,
Kim Boute and Charles there's a lotof great short track on the woman's
side. Dione with his shortcoming thisyear. Harmony is retiring after the World
Championship next month in Montreal. StephenDubois has become today the new darling of

(24:18):
short track Canada and easternal val.So there he goes, so I appreciate
that, Kevin. But yeah,no, look, the short track is
always going to be a moment. It's always gonna be exciting. It's it's
gonna frustrate me a little bit becausewe talked about that already today. But
but yeah, that's a great momentand I congratulate him one hundred percent.

(24:41):
That's a that's a that's a goodmedal, Kevin. Should I talk about
my gold Let's talk about your goalfor day five? Dude, dude,
dude, dude, dude, dude. I'm gonna I'm gonna give my goal
to the ultimate dude. And Idon't think he's gonna win anymore today,
but I want to talk about him. And I'm frustrated that this man is
thirt five years old because it makesme feel really old. But my gold

(25:03):
medal is the fact that this thisold man went down the half pipe and
laid it down on his his finalrun where he had to do it.
It's Sean White man. Like I'vebeen watching so much Olympics for so long
with Sean White there and he's stilldoing it. He's four right now.
I remember when he showed up witha skateboard. I'm like, wait,
wait, wait a minute, he'sthere in the summer, now, dude,

(25:25):
why not might as well do it? Yeah, no, look it's
Sean White man. He's He's theultimate sort of American millennial in my mind.
Did I just go like, howare you thirty five? Yeah?
I want to stab myself. AndI think I can even do what you
think about Tony Hawk because I likeSean White from my generation, like even
Tony Hawk is known from my generation, but like Sean Wait's just a bit

(25:48):
younger than me. But I canonly imagine. Yeah, so I guess
then the two thousands version of TonyHawk is definitely Sean White. Uh did
you see the Tony Hawk video wherehe did the trick on the on the
half pipe when he was like sithbirthday, when he did this amazing trip.
Yeah again, he's like, I'mnever gonna attempt it again. That's

(26:10):
the last time I've ever gonna doa ten eighty. Yeah, thanks,
thank you for that, Jim.Yeah, no, it's amazing. I
remember when you're trying to lend thenine hundred, So that's a long time
ago. Things have changed a littlebit. Nine hundred was supposed to be
undoable, but that's like two thousandand five. Here. Two thousand and
five was like yesterday, right,Sure, A thousand and five was great,

(26:33):
Xbox came out, you know,PlayStation two was all the rage.
I don't know, I'm just I'mjust sped, bawling. I don't remember
the PS two. Yeah, I'mlooking at I can actually see one if
I turn my head a little bitright now. So anyway, I know
how older people feel now, becauseI think I've peaked with PS four.
Like the PS five draws zero zeroattention to me. I'm like, I'm
good, Like how better can itreally get? Like? How much better

(26:56):
can your graphics really get that? And uh, this is a current conversation.
I haven't seen an Olympic game worthyof that name attract me to these
games. Anyways, there you go. Yeah, I mean I take a
PS five if anyone wants to giveme one, but sure, dms are
open, but you know you're notgonna Sean White is my gold medalist because
I don't think he's going to medaltomorrow. But the fact he's still there

(27:19):
and he's still doing it and whatis such a youthful sport is incredible to
me and good for him, andyou can see the joy in the other
competitors faces when he went down, like they're taking selvies with him because he's
strong, bloody white. See's thereason why they're doing it exactly. But
that's a very good medal and verysimilar to mine because mine is also American.

(27:42):
Is also to an extreme sport ofsome sort, also to anixt game
champions, multiple ex game champions,a career and it spends decade now and
this is our one, two, three, fourth or fifth Olympic and she
was still looking for her gold medal. The closest she had she had came

(28:04):
before today. Dwayne was a momentthat had been played in the Sports Center's
Top ten for decades, a momentthat she was characterized, identified and labeled
as a hot dog, someone who'sjust having too much fun and doesn't take
anything seriously because of one moment inher career, just because in two thousand

(28:27):
and six she was ahead of everybodyelse and a three second lead over the
second, who was Tanya Frieden ofSwitzerland. Lindsay jacob Ellis was first of
the snowmag Cross in the first timethis event was taking place at the two
thousand and six Winter Olympics in Torino. That was on February seventeenth, And

(28:49):
on that day, when she wasfirst in the last jump, knowing there
was no way she was going tolose this race, she decided to have
fun and grab her word and shemissed the landing, fell and finished second.
And since then this moment has reallybeen a moment she was labeled as

(29:14):
and you know what, yesterday shewas able, she came the closest and
she was able to overcome that momentwhen a thirty six years old Lindsay jacob
Ellis was able to win the goldmedal in a Young persons sports in the
snowboard cross. She beat Wootang, she got the wooting section, she dominated

(29:38):
the rest of the course, shedominated everybody else, and she finished first
in front of up and comers andknow who's who of that discipline. Lindsay
jacob Ellis not letting two thousand andsix dictate her twenty twenty two experience.
Look, I can still remember thatmost even an Olympic freaks like us,

(30:02):
he can remember that because you knowyou're winning me grab your barden. Follow
in every top ten moment of celebratingtoo early or call it whatever you like.
You see that you see, ofcourse the university cross country race where
the guy stops running twenty minutes beforeand almost and just waves everybody and gets
pipped to the line. Well,it's kind of like that same scenario here.

(30:22):
Well look, I mean it's alsolike what two thousand and six,
so like this is the peak ofthe millennial lifestyle where people are starting to
understand what that generation was and isand all that sort of stuff, and
they like the fact that she felta lot of people like the fact that
she fell there that that's not kidherselfs right, like, hey you you
did that be screwed up? Andof course it happened between two gold medals

(30:45):
of the World Championship, right. She had won the World Championship in Whistler
in two thousand and five in thesame discipline nobody cross, and won it
in two thousand and seven. Shewas going to win it too, So
that's the whole thing. And it'skind of like, I'm sorry, pretty
defec I made fun of you ifyou a few shows ago, But that's
the Americans version of dec even worse. You know, imagine if you don't

(31:06):
fall on the first hurdle, butthe last one when you're actually winning.
It's basically that's what happened here.So I can feel the weight, the
weight of sixteen years of carrying thatburden coming off her shoulder with that victory
yesterday. It was pretty bad likethat, let's be frank about it.
But at the same time, likethe fact that you continue on, you

(31:30):
keep driving forward, and now you'renot a twenty year old anymore, like
I mean two thousand and six.As much as we've been joking about it
was quite a while ago. It'sit's it's it's pretty good. It's incredible.
Yeah, so that's a great goldmedal. That's a great way in
the show. And yeah, absolutelyI agree. Don't don't grab your board,
although it would have been funny ifshe had. You know what I

(31:52):
would have I would have freaking Donnagrabbed my board and landed, you know,
make it go full circle and shutthe haters. But you know what
I'd imagine if she grabs it andthen she falls, no no, no,
no, the side by side comparisonforever like to no, no,
no, she had to do whatshe did. It's like it's like you
kick a field goal. In footballin the playoffs, you just don't go

(32:14):
for it. She thinks, exactlywhen it's really when it's really go time,
you gotta take what you give.Have to try to imagine that if
she'd fallen again, would so whatwere you thinking? No comment? Can
I just not talk to the media? Thank you? I'm out, got
done. Here you go, here'smy here's my apron, you go,

(32:36):
here's my skis, Here you go. Congratulations to Lindsay jacob Elas and let's
have a quick look Dwayne at themedal table before we say goodbye. Because
of Norway and Germany a great performancein day five, they are not equal
on top of the medal table withSweden. So we have Norway, Germany,

(32:57):
Sweden all with four gold medals.Netherlands three, thank you, speed
Skating Republic, People's Republic of Chinathree, Austria too, thank you too.
Skiing once again, but this timethe downhill version. Italy Islam them
also Italy rock Slovenia. USA hasa gold medal. Now it's first of

(33:20):
the Games, thanks to Lindsay Jacobelliswho also rescued the entire country because they
had no gold medals. And weknow how that feels as Canadian because it
happened to us a few times.Just ask Alex Bido in Vancouver how the
pressure of an entire country can comequickly when it's been a few days.
Understand local medals. France eleventh thanksto their one gold medal in Biatlon and

(33:45):
Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, Czech Republic in New Zealand and the
last gold medal Slovakia so far gota gold medal in these games. Yeah,
well, thank you ski Jumping forthat one. But yeah, call
me that golds are more important thanbronzes. Had the conversation we had yesterday's
Yeah, it is lying to meexactly. CBC is lying to you.

(34:07):
It doesn't matter if Canada has seventotal medals and five bronze. We're not
fourth in the order by total.Canada is twelve, which is fine.
You had a couple of curling medals, you had maybe a women's golden medal
in hockey and probably not on themen's side, and maybe you have yourself

(34:29):
a better a true feeling of whereCanada is. Yeah, I'm embarrassingly cheering
for the Canadian meant when hockey itmakes me angry at myself a little bit
with that, but I kind ofwanna you know, it's it's kind of
fun. You know, who's thebackup goalie for Canada. Who is that?
I'm not sure, so tell meJustin Pogy, former Maple Leaf superstar,

(34:54):
Justin Pogy. So in the nextfew days, and by the way,
here's a a primer. We won'tdo it daily, but in the
next few days I'll finish the creatingof the video aspect. We'll have a
couple of video shows for the endof how the Olympics will do. Dian
and I and Well, we'll talkabout hockey and we'll break down the roster.

(35:14):
Some of you know, I'm asports edition now, so I've been
working for over a year, andI would for almost a year with the
aspas. I've been working on hockeyand I've been perfecting my knowledge and hockey
and of course all the other sportshave been working on. So i will
look statistically speaking, a team Canadaand I'll get some quirky facts on this
team. You can get all thestats and all these things anywhere. But

(35:37):
we're gonna have some fun with theseteams because that's the beauty of this tournament.
The NHL players are out there,so I'm going with like funny stories
and maybe a little upsettled there hereand there, and maybe it's good for
your betting account. Who knows, there you go. I mean, look,
it wasn't good for my betting accountlast night when I took the over

(35:58):
on Rush. Yeah you shouldn't.You should one one one Nothing's imagine Rock
is same as Canada. They don'thave any tel players, so men's side
choose the under until it corrects itself. Okay, that's my that's that's my
advice to any betters who actually wantsto bet on the Olympics, which by

(36:19):
the way, is a very riskysport. Oh no, it's completely random.
It's kind of fun to just youknow, if Canada's not involved.
I just been randomly picking a Norwegianin the cross country and then cheering for
them. It becomes very inspiring whenyou have money on the line. So
for some reason, Liechtenstein is reallyinteresting. Tomorrow, Tomorrow of February tenth,

(36:43):
Day six will be medals in men'soutpine and combined, which is always
fun, Women's ten kilometers Classic,in the cross country, skiing, curling,
has started tomorrow. The women's starttoday was the man There was four
games in the men's event of curling. We can even talk about those results
if we want. Canada destroying Denmarkten to five with two ends to go,

(37:05):
Denmark's like we had enough. Here'sour wet flag. Good game and
good luck is my new my newand my new favorite nickname. Good name
and good luck. That's what Denmarksaid exactly. You know, I'm just
very excited that an Olympian that isthree years older than me is going to
kick off tomorrow. So so goodfor you. Jennifer Jones starts tomorrow.
She's going to have fun. Othergames. The USA did beat the Rock

(37:30):
six to five, and you knowit's funny. They call the Rock and
they play a sport with stones.Hurry, hurry hard. Norway over Switzerland
seven four, and Sweden over thePeople's Republic of China. We'll keep an
eye on the scores of curling everysingle day to hype up the end of
the games. Curling, hockey arethe sports that are finishing at the end

(37:52):
of the game. We'll keep aneye on these sports, on these great
team sports. The biggest moment ofthese games are also these sports, so
let's kick a quick look at therest of the day. Figure skating,
the men's single will take place tomorrow, medals will be ordered. Keep an
eye on Keegan Messing from Canada. We're not expecting a medal, but who
knows what's going to happen with theRussian people, so the who the rock

(38:15):
people exactly. Freestyle skiing, themixed team aerials starts tomorrow, lose the
team relay. Germany favorite to winthis one easily. Snowboard, men's snowboard
cross and also the women's snowboard halfpipe. Medals will be given in those
two competitions, and also competition inthe women's five thousand meters speed skating on

(38:40):
the ice ribbon. Absolutely, I'mlooking forward to it. These games have
been spectacular, Kevin. I'm Itweeted this out last night. I actually
think these are my favorite games already. I don't know why. I think
it's maybe the pandemic has affected me, but yeah, it's it's incredible watching
these people and I'm we're not evenhalfway through, so that's that's watched more
