This is the FCB podcast network.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Okay, mayn Christmas, everybody suck it. That's actually a million hours.
Starting this podcast, we were complaining, we welcome everybody to
Very Merry podcast. We were complaining about how both of
us have our sound panels out, our microphones are out,
we can't use them for some reason, and so we're
just on our yankie computer audio and we were salty

(01:11):
about it. So way to start off the season being salty.
But welcome back everybody. It's a preview episode. Hey Amelia,
good to see you.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Hi, Sarah, Merry Christmas. I'm so excited to be bag
Merry Christmas.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
We are back. So we we definitely ended without ceremony personally,
she's got in the way. Neither of us gets paid
to do this podcast, so it was what it was.
But here's the thing about this podcast. We love doing
it so much we couldn't just say goodbye to it.
So we're back for another round.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
We are we are sorry we unceremoniously dropped the ball
when real life got in the way last year. Though
you're left you hanging. We're gonna fix it, really got it.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah, and you know what, I'm sick of real life.
I'm sick of it.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Yeah. We want Christmas Lane life.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I want Christmas Land Life. Everything's good there. Everybody gets
what they want and you never have to feel nervous
about how things are going to end.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Yeah, it's me. And we kept thinking, well, we're just
gonna be back next week, and then real life just
kept being in real life.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
So yeah, but we're back. We're back.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
We're back now. No, it's next Christmas, back again.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
We're going to keep it super casual this season, just
because we don't want to stop doing it, but we
don't want to burn ourselves out. I'd love doing this podcast.
It's one of the favorite, my favorite things, and I
wish we could find someone to pay us oodles of
money to do it, but in the meantime we will
enjoy ourselves with you, dear listening audience. And so if

(02:43):
you're like us and you just love, you know, chilling
out with the Hallmark movies or the movies in Christmas
Land and just having a good time and not thinking
about anything, then you're in the right spot. So Amelia
is going to set us up for this season a
little and what we have, what we can expect to come.
But before we get started, I want to tell everybody

(03:06):
a little bit about this podcast in case they're just
tuning in the first time. So a Very Merry Podcast
is a podcast Amelia and I started through our mutual
love of Hallmark movies and we love how bad they
are and how good they are at the same time,
and we thought, wouldn't it be fun to just talk
about these things. So we started up this podcast, and

(03:28):
over the years we've expanded it to just Christmas Land
in general, because the Hallmark brand has really been sort
of infectious in that niche. And so we've moved over
to Great American Channel and we've done some Netflix where
we've got all kinds of fun things. So far in
our roster, and so that's why we do this. We

(03:48):
just we love cheesy Christmas movies. We love talking about them.
And even though sometimes it might sound like we're complaining
about them, or it may even sound like we're being disrespectful,
in all truthful honesty, everything we say here comes from
a place of absolute love and respect for the people

(04:10):
who make these movies. We want you to keep making them.
We want you to keep making them exactly the way
they're being made. We don't want you to change anything.
And we appreciate all of the work and effort that
goes into these projects, and we love that we get
to be sort of a part of it from the audience.
And so thanks to everybody who makes these movies, and

(04:32):
thanks to everybody who's listening to us talk about these movies.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Absolutely so, like I said, we had this is well.
First of all, congratulations to us season five. Here we
are so yes, round of applause, Thank you, Kiara, slow clap.
So we felt kind of bad that we dropped the
ball in season four. So we're going to finish season
four this year, which is one of the ways that

(04:58):
we are really even the pressure on ourselves because we
were always trying to squeeze in the episodes in the
middle of busy Christmas season. So we are finishing season
four this year, which is going to be great. I'm excited.
And we're also squeezing in some episodes from from last
year that we didn't get to and taking in some

(05:22):
viewer feedback of a movie that we didn't get to
watch last year that we're excited to get in. So
here's what we're going to watch this year. We are
starting with Journey to Christmas, which is a great American
film starring Brian Oh sorry, director Brian Brow, stars ash

(05:43):
Cy Tsai and Joey Hayworth. The storyline is in a
charity press tour, a model ends up stranded by bad
weather at the family home of the driver she hired
to help her during the week.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Okay, we've already recorded one, and so we're gonna get
this one out to you. And I just got to say,
if you haven't seen this one, go watch it. Go
watch it before this episode comes out. I actually really
liked this one and I think it's a perfect one
to start off the end of season four slash beginning
of season five.

Speaker 5 (06:17):
Yep, Yeah, definite winner and Amelia and I love a
road trip movie. We love the road trip formula. In
Christmas Land Chef's Kiss. It never fails.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Absolutely, It's one of our favorites. Second movie is another
one of our favorites, Secret Royal. So this is one
that was last year and we were slated to watch it.
We never got to it. Another American Family. So this
is Danica mckellor, one of our favorites. And Damon Runyon.
I don't know, do we know Damon Runyon? I feel
like he looks familiar. Do we know you, Damon Runyon?

(06:53):
He was on Digressive The Next Generation. Bella Sparks runs
Bell of Bella's boutique. Stephan needs to be outfitted for
a week of high stakes meetings. After his luggage goes missing,
she accidentally discovers Stephan is actually Stephan William Francis Brown,
the Duke of Tangford. Do I believe Tangford is a title?

(07:16):
I don't know about that one that I'm here for it.
We've talked a.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Lot about the names of countries on this show, but
Tangford really is that. It doesn't even usually.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Is a new one? Sure, all right? Now we're going
to want another one that Kira and I watched last
year but didn't get around to doing the episode. One
one thing director Jason Priestley Dear Santa. Now this one
we got into the CD under Belly of the Neighbor
of Christmas Land, Holiday Land. This was a lifetime movie. Yes,

(07:53):
Amy Acker and David Hayden Jones. I remembered loving this movie,
and it was a little bit sketchier that I remembered.
Still liked it, but it was a little bit, a
little bit it was like a little bit Peag thirteen,
you know, it wasn't quite so anyway, a young woman

(08:15):
from a privileged life falls for a soup kitchen owner
after discovering a Dear Santa letter written by his seven
year old daughter.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
This is a good one, and so I think you
guys will like this because it does take place in
Christmas Lands Sea to your sister city holiday Land. So
if you think about like West Palm Beach versus Tampa,
that kind of thing, like we're going to Tampa on

(08:45):
this one to fill so much to talk about really great.
And I had forgotten that Jason Priestley did that one.
We need to get him that episode so he can
listen to it as well.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
He might exactly. I'm sure he's been waiting since since
season four when we said we were gonna do it. It
never got to it.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I am so sorry, Jason. I know we don't have
a graphic. You are a hugely success.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Please call him, mister Priestley. I'm sorry, mister.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I'm so sorry. You are a hugely successful entertainer. And
we're very online Hallmark fans we have, we have a
great appreciation for what you did. So yeah, guys, go
watch that movie, but just understand, you're not gonna be
at the Waldorf Waldorf Astoria.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
You're going to beat Yes, absolutely. Next up, Great American
Family from last year Christmas on wind Mill Way. I
picked this one because it's starring Chad Michael Murray. I'm
still not over Tristan from The Gilmour Girls, to be
honest with you. So Mia Meyer expects that her ohm

(09:56):
Ann will when the Christmas market Fest Dutch Bakeoff come Petition,
which is a whole title with her award winning curse
Oh Oh Kurse do Stall. I'm gonna get some I'm
gonna get some emails about that. But her Alma has
difficult news to share then me as ex return and

(10:16):
brings problems for the mill.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Oh boy, Okay, well this one has some elements that
we really love. We love a bake off. We love
a bakeoff.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah, we love and we love when the ex boyfriend
comes and has problems for the family business. But I
have a feeling he's gonna end up saving it.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I don't know, Amelia. It seems like they've probably been
living very different lives up till now, and I don't
know if there's very different people.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
I mean, how he can get the picture and he's
wearing a tie and his hair is really nice, so
I think he's just a big city guy. I don't
I don't feel like he can be redeemed. But her
Olma Anne might see something in him and her cursed
all well, Lily of Pastry.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Well, we'll learn how to say it, and we will
find out if he does indeed know the true meaning
of Christmas. We'll find out.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
I just googled it and it is a traditional Dutch
oval shaped fruited Christmas bread.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
I should know this. I went to college in a
Dutch town with Dutch people, and I feel like I've
probably eaten it before and never known how to say it.
Just the bread thingy with the because I do love
that type of pastry. I love Dutch pastries. Actually, welcome
to Dutch pastry talk with Kira. All Right, well, yeah,

(11:42):
come up another one that we loved. A princess for Christmas, Bobo.
What's her name? Karen kN Karen Knightley is Katie McGrath,
Sam Ewan and Roger Moore. This one, this one was
a movie.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
It was It was really a movie. It was a movie.
This was from twenty eleven. At the invitation of an
estranged relative, a young woman travels with her niece and
nephew to a castle in Europe for Christmas, where she
unwittingly falls for a dashing prince.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I'm trying to remember. This one was called I believe
Castlebury or Winterbury. I think it was called Winterbury. Yeah,
I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
This is what I recall, Peoplesbury to watch this movie.
But if I recall, there is a very impressive hip
hop dance scene in this there is. And there's also
something a little fun about one of the stars of
this movie that we found out. So I think you

(12:54):
should definitely go watch this movie. And it's sam Ewen
before he had his glow up.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
He's still super cute. He's like he's but he's not like, yeah, yeah,
he's cute. And I have the IMDb page pulled up
so I could read the description, and there is it's
got like you know trivia the Castlebury Castle is actually
Pella's Castle, Palace of the Romanian Kings, you know Goofs soundtrack,

(13:20):
And it also has some fun quotes. One of them
is I thought butlers were extinct, and the response from
the butler is, oh no, we've made a comeback. P
Diddy has three, which just hits different in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Oh man, P Diddy in the Christmas Land universe.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
It was the crossover we weren't expecting.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
They cannot coincide. They can't. Those are two like separate organisms.
One has to die. There's no way Christmas lanquids are
vibe with you'd be like the White Witch in line
the Witch and the Wardrobe of like the Narnia. Yeah,
just like, yeah, that's hysterre if I have to go

(14:12):
in there and add some thing. Yeah, that's amazing.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Wow, yeah awkward.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
These days, it seems like everybody's talking, but no one
is actually listening to the things they're saying. Critical thinking
isn't dead, but it's definitely low on oxygen. Join me

Speaker 4 (14:58):
All right, and then Chris miss Incorporated. So this one,
I don't know. This is another one that we watched
last year or that we had on the list for
last year. So this is Shaney, Grimes, Beach and Steve Lund.
This is a twenty fifteen because we also we watched
the old Favorites last year, which was fun. So the
premise is Riley lands herself a new job via a

(15:19):
case of mistaken identity, and her first assignment is to
accompany her new boss on a trip to save a
failing toy factory. So this was sorry, go ahead, Oh.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
No, I was gonna say this. This is a scenario
that's always on our checklist, which is a situation that
could be easily resolved with one simple conversation mistaken identity
and Christmas Land could always be solved by someone simply saying,

(15:50):
at any given moment in time, oh, that's not.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Me, right, but yes you have mistaken me or someone else.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Yes, But that is part of that's that's on the
trope checklist. That's part of how we get these movies.
It's like it's like the white girl running upstairs instead
of out the front.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Door in the horror movie.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
We need these people to be absolutely mom about their
real and simple and non offensive attention intentions in order
for these movies to happen.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
So we're on board, absolutely absolutely. And then last year
we got so many emails about this movie, so we
had to add it to the list a builtmore Christmas.
Oh yes, and we cannot resist a Christopher Palaha movie anyway, because,
as you know on this show, we respect the Polaha.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
We respect the Polaha.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
So the premise is if this movie follows Lucy as
she is hired to write the script for a remake
of a holiday movie. She joins a tour of the grounds,
and when she knocks an hourglass over, she finds herself
transported back in time to nineteen forty I'm here for it.
I am here for Christopher Palaha as a nineteen forty
six gentleman. Lucy is played by Bethany joy Lenz. By

(17:09):
the way, we love her as well. She was in
one of our absolute favorites, the where they have the
bed and Breakfast. What's it called? Oh, hilarious one.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
I only know what we called it, which is hot
Sassafrass right, hot exactly, the Hot SaaS Fresh movie. You
know frass that I love that. I still love that.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Yes, So anyway, the Hot SaaS Fresh girl.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
I do like her a lot, and we love Christopher
Blah the time. We've done a couple of time travel
episodes and you love those because you're a history buff
and you're Star Christmas. There we go, but thank you God,
five Star Christmas. Go watch it, we love it, and
then listen to our episode on it Hot SaaS Fraus.
We had a good time on that one. But yeah,

(17:56):
I'm I don't hate them, obviously, I love everything. It
doesn't matter. But you particularly love the time travel episodes
because you're so big into history. So Amelia, I really
do expect you to see a lot of accurate historical
representation here. I'm looking forward to your analysis of how
they represented the period.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
I realized that I was insufferable for the episode when
they had to reunite the uniform with the I was rough.
I was absolutely no fun for that episode. I was like,
that's not fair, that's not true. We hadn't even entered
the door. The listeners were like, please make her stop,

(18:38):
so one cut her mind.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
You'll get to hear Amelia's wonderful historical analysis as well.
I would do it. I mean, I enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
So so I'm excited, definitely excited for Biltmore Christmas. Anyway,
that's the end. By the way, that's our last episode
of the year. But I'm really excited. We've got a
good mix of old movies and you know, old favorites
releases from last year. We're not going to do any
new movies this year because that's kind of what got

(19:11):
us mixed up last year, was trying to coordinate schedules
with yeah, life as we're calling it. So I think
this is going to work out better and hopefully we
will not drop the.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Ball and well, like maybe last year, like one new
movie in the winter. Sometimes that's actually a watch party.
We've always talked about doing a watch party, and the
technology so much easier these days. Maybe that's where what
we saved the new movies for something like that when

(19:42):
it's not in the middle of Christmas crazyess. Yeah, but
I mean, the thing about Christmas Land is it's always Christmas.
It's always Christmas anytime, and this year, Amelia, I'm thinking
I might pull Ruby into one of these because she
has She won't admit that she's enjoying them, but she

(20:04):
has begun to sit down on purpose and watch them
with me when I watch it, so and she's got
like the commentary, this dream of commentary. I've trained her
up water commentary is so we might I might invite
her in to hear some of her thoughts. But it's
infectious and that's why we love We love doing this

(20:26):
and it's just so much fun to watch a movie
that has no other agenda or no other intention than
in giving you what you want.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
No one ever gives me what I want anyfore, nobody,
no one but Christmas Land. I was at I was
at an event over the weekend and was just sitting
around with some friends and some new friends. I met
this couple for the first time, and the wife was
teasing the husband because he's a whole watcher and she's

(21:02):
not as into it as he is. And he was like, listen,
I've got a rough job. I work hard. Things don't
always go my way. He's like, but I turn on
a Hallmark movie and things are going to go my way.
And I was like, sir, I understand you. And he
he particularly loves the mysteries and he's like, I know

(21:23):
they're going to solve the problem. I know it's all
going to work out, right. I know they're going to
fall in love with each other. And he said, but
you know, a lot of the actors and stuff have left.
He's like, I don't know what's going on. And I said,
do you know about Great American? And I told him
about the podcast and he subscribed right there in front
of me. He's like, look at this, Look at you guys.
You got to He's like, I didn't know about the

(21:43):
He's like, you guys have all these Christmas movies. I said, well,
a lot of the actors have moved over to this
A two American family channel, and he was like he
didn't know. He's so excited we've got a new listener.
But it's the same kind of thing he said. He
said the same thing. He said, life can be stressful.
I turn on Hallmark movie. I know it's all gonna
work out. I know everybody's gonna be happy. The real

(22:05):
life stuff, all the like stuff in the news, all
the stuff in the real world. It's not gonna intrude.
It's just gonna be a nice story. And she said,
but you know how it's gonna end. I said, that's
the comforting thing, right, you know how it's gonna end.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
Right, that is the thing. And normally for me, I
hate finishing things like I don't finish books. I don't
finish it's the very where I finish, like a TV
show unless I really love it, because I hate things
ending because I don't know how it's gonna end. But
I love the anticipation of not knowing how it's gonna end.
But when it comes to the Hallmark where it comes

(22:39):
to Christmas Land, yeah, I absolutely do want to know
how it's gonna end. Of course, I know how it's
gonna end. That's the whole endeavor, that's the whole point
of sitting down and watching it. And I feel like
entertainment used to be that way. It used to be
We're gonna give the customer what they want, and I
don't feel like I get that. In most of modern entertainment,

(22:59):
it's I sit down to something and I feel like
was made for me, not me as a black woman,
or me as a suburban mom, or me as a
you know whatever, just me as an audience member that
wants to enjoy it. I don't feel like people are
making stuff for me to be happy watching anymore. And
in Christmas Land, it's always an only made for you

(23:23):
to be happy watching it.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Yep, I am so ready. I'm ready.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
So thank you to all of the people in Christmas
Land who have worked to make these movies for us,
and we hope you're out there doing great and doing
more projects for us to enjoy in the future. Amelia,
before we let people go, just do a rundown of
maybe where they can find all this stuff.

Speaker 4 (23:47):

Right, Amelia, Well on till we meet again. I wish
you days filled with.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
Toboggan sled contests, and I wish you the predictable endings
that make you feel comfort. Merry Christmas, Amelia, Ry Christmas, Kira.
