But wrap your minds around this.Gentlemen, come on, you know I
hate I hate. Your sisters cangive each other a kiss and make up.
Man, the guys thought about it, so it's not funny. The
guy needs help. Nice is wrong. I get you don't like me.

(00:25):
I explode. I award you nopoints, and may God have mercy on
your soul. Welcome to Adam Sandler. Please stop. A complete retrospective of
all the Adam Sandler's movies past, present, and unfortunately future or maybe fortunately
for us who knows. Today I'mMarie Bloney and with me, as always
are my co hosts Caleb George RobertBacon. Today we are watching Spaceman's Starry

(00:51):
Adam Sandler and Bill Burr. Wait, is that's weird? Let's free?
Why I'm mess that up? I'mSandler period. Okay. It was released
on Netflix March first. Yes,it was released to select theaters in February.
Yes. The plot of this movieis half a year into his solo

(01:12):
mission on the edge of the SolarSystem, an astronaut concerned with the state
of his life back on Earth,is helped by an ancient creature he discovers
in the bowels of his ship.Wow. Yeah the bowels, eh,
bowlswel such a great word. Ye, such a great word. I think.
I hope the whole films in thebowels. Yeah. Yeah, man,

(01:34):
me too. I love I lovecreature bowels, towels really best creatures
you can find. Yeah. Iwant to go on Wheel of Fortune so
I could buy a bowel. Somefacts about this movie us on track.
Yeah. It is based on thetwenty seventeen book The Spaceman or Sorry Spaceman

(01:55):
of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kulfar. Igot that right, I think, huge
call fan. It's directed by JohannRink, he directed the Chernobyl mini series
on HBO. Due to mixed reactionsfrom test screenings, the film was in

(02:15):
post production for almost three years.Wowiezowie. Wow. See now this is
from IMDb. Don't know if it'strue, right, So according to that,
that's the most thumbs up. Okay, okay. And then our final
fact is that Carrie Mulligan, whois in this and Bilburr is not,

(02:36):
was eight months pregnant in real lifeand early to mid twenty twenty three when
she filmed supplemental scenes for Spaceman withLena Olin as her mom. Wow.
Wow, so keep an eye outfor that. Yeah. Really pregnant,
no prosthetics? Are those all thefacts? Those are all the facts.
Hi, everybody, Hi Marie,Hey, how are we doing? How

(03:00):
are you doing? How is everyonedoing? Marie? You came in with
a hot, hot story? Youwere, I do have a story.
I'm so excited about Rob Schneider joint. I just met someone recently while I
was on vacation. I'm not gonnasay her name is. I don't want
to dos her. Yeah. No, I met someone while I was on
vacation whose dad grew up with RobSchneider and their childhood best friends. And

(03:27):
she's like, yeah, Rob isgonna be at my wedding in September.
God. And we were talking.I was like, I just watched his
most recent movie that he filmed inScottsdale. And she was like, oh
my god. She's like yes,She's like that's so embarrassing. She's like,
I think my dad might have goneout there, like for the premiere.
But she said her dad is likenot a fan of Rob's like political

(03:51):
beliefs, but what about the movies. He's like, the movies are bad.
We talked about him getting absolutely roastedand Adam Sandler won the Mark Twain
American Award for Humor American Award forHumor Or Something Humor and Satire. She
was like, yeah, like thatwas so cringe, but like my dad

(04:13):
totally agreed and I was like,oh damn, that's so funny. But
yeah, this gal is great. It's I really need to check in with
her after hell yeah in September,so I will check back in with her
at that time. But just trulywild chatting with her about rab And just

(04:36):
like no, She's like, yeah, I've like known him since I was
a kid, Like I know him, like met him, hung out with
him multiple times. Did she sayhe was a nice guy? Like what
was her impression of him? She'slike he's generally a nice guy, but
like she said, he's like kindof you know what we would think.
She's like he's weird. Yeah,he's weird, Yeah, and like very

(04:56):
full of himself, Like yeah,we were both just giggling about him making
a movie in Scottsdale. Like yeah, I will check in with her to
see if she wants to like makea recording, But any any questions for
her? Did he ever want tobe called unkie schneidy about her experience with

(05:21):
Robert Rob in general, Like isshe relaying this question to Rob in the
wedding? No? No, nono. I mean like if if we
want to ask her questions about Rob, oh my question, Yeah, like
what was like growing up with him? Like I would love to know if
there was a carnival in town andshe saw Rob doing something like what what

(05:41):
where does he gravitate towards in thecarnival? I would love to know.
Okay, says a lot about aman. Yeah, I got a question
for I would like to know amoment that, like a genuine moment from
Rob that she remembers that either madeher laugh or like really made him an
affable person to her. You know, does that make sense? Like I
really won a moment of Rob that'slike a humanizing moment because all I see

(06:06):
is just the ship on screen. So I would really love to know,
Like what's a really memorable moment forher? That's a great point. And
you know what, I will,I will take these and I will yeah,
I'll shoot her a text. Okay, carnival and when when it was
Rob a genuine yeah? And ifthere was no carnival, if there's like

(06:27):
a sporting event. I just that'swhat I'm kind of looking at too.
I'm kind of looking at like peeringthrough the window and seeing what kind of
person he actually is. You canalso tell me he's my most watch actor
on my letter. There we go. Yeah, I hate that. But
if we crash this wedding, wecould have a great episode. We'll take
a break every thirty minutes, giveyou an update. Oh my god,

(06:51):
live recording from someone's just as ona hill, just like seeing the wedding
binocular. Rob is on his thirddrink, third drink already. He's only
drinking Heinekens. Yeah, it's openbar. That's weird. That's strange.

(07:13):
Stop card too many, that's funny. You guys, are you excited to
watch this? Was? This wasone of my like the one that I
was looking forward to. Me too. The reviews I have seen the reviews,
they are mixed, So that isI'm a little scared. I'm a
little I'm a little scared as well. This seems like my vibe type of

(07:35):
movie. So I'm a little probablymore excited than you are. I will
say this. I saw an adorableinterview with Paul Dano, who's in this
film, and Adam Sandler. Theyasked Paul Dano, what are some of
his favorite films, and the secondfilm he brought up was Punch Drunk Love.
Oh wow. And I have tosay Adam Sandler like was really a
little giddly giddy boy about it andwas like, really, that's one of

(07:58):
your favorite films. He's like, yeah, it really truly is. I
would say it if you and ifyou weren't here, and he like put
his hands in his face and waslike really like really, and it was
like a really really sweet moment. Then I also read that Adam Sandler made
seventy three million dollars and was thehighest paid actor last year. I got
angry again a little bit. Well, it does help that he's the executive
producer and sets his salary totally becauseit ain't close. I read the list

(08:22):
of like highest paid actress and itain't close, Like he's double Manx closest.
While Yeah, that's insane, that'swild, that's crazy. I mean
it kind of sounds like the movieMoon, Yeah right, yeah, and
that was a fun movie. Nota fun movie. That was a fun
fun but it's what a fun Rot. That movie was spoiler. I'll beat

(08:43):
that out. Okay, Yeah,we usually save Adam Sandlers we have to
break it up thirty minutes, butI think it would really deter from this.
That's why I was thinking too.Like the flow of this movie.
I feel like interrupting it every thirtyminutes might kind of take away from the
vibe. Yeah, the thirty minutething was great for grown ups. Grown
ups Tolus six, which, bythe way, we haven't watched. We

(09:07):
have so many more poa to watchif we want to watch them all.
Putting my foot down. You guysready to watch this? Yes, let's
go to space. It's jam. We're just here listening to that all night.

(09:30):
I find the vibration so thing. At first I answered your thoughts with
you, but I felt uncomfortable.Your kind carries a great deal of guilt
yours doesn't. No, why shouldwe? The universe is as it should
be. I am removing your banon this room, Hanush for soothing purposes.

(10:03):
Don't go away, don't go away, don't go don't go away,
don't go don't go away, don'tgo don't go away. Oh spider with

(10:26):
a thick walking around my shoes. How am I not supposed to tap it?
Don't go away, don't go oharound, don't go away, don't

(10:56):
go on the turn that's father around, spin space anything goes to the tenor
mouth on the spoder with a bigfat ass supper lips, big fat ass
fucking egg u are we recording record? Put it out a spot as six,

(11:33):
don't go to go away? Goaway? You go away? As
to go away to tap as spinsome some webs with that ass around my
dick, go to mass spin itaround zero gravity. Tell me which I

(12:00):
looking? Oh my gosh, thatwas the last song wild We have watched
all of Spaceman. Oh yeah, wait, very Caleb thoughts feelings. I

(12:22):
thought it was pretty good. Yeah, I feel like I'm coming out of
a massage or something. Yeah,I don't know. It's a weird feeling.
It's like coming out of a spaceSpider therapy session. Truly truly is
right of the mind, Yes,it truly is. I agree. Well,
I don't know. You want tostart at the beginning of this of
what this is to do for.Yeah, Adam Sandler is a spaceman who

(12:50):
you know makes a lot of sacrificeswith his life and kind of just basically
abandons his wife and child to goaway on this space mission. And as
he's on his space mission, herealizes that he misses her and he needs
her and this was wrong and hedoesn't want to be doing this. He
doesn't want to be exploring. Yes, he runs into a space spider.

(13:13):
Yeah, but it's also a worldand where there's like this pink misty area.
Oh, yes, that's what. That's a main plot point where this
like pink missed galaxy shows up onthe edges of our galaxy. A bunch
of countries are vying to figure outwhat it is, and there for four

(13:35):
years, yes, but there forfour years, and there's basically like a
space race to go find out whatthe heck to stuff is. It's really
interesting, yes, and that's interesting, but that's not even what. Really,
it's not even close what the movieis about. The movies of relationship
movie. The conceit of space makesit a little more compelling because it's so

(13:56):
drastic with the space asp. It'slike, oh, this takes like in
this world, it takes like ayear minimum to get back, to get
out there and then to get back, so which is really fast. But
think about the miles he racked upfor the family. Yeah, incredible space

(14:16):
miles to Mars for free. There'ssome silly side stuff with like him having
to do like advertisements in space reallyaccurate. Yes, it feels really real.
It feels extremely real. It's veryclose, like this is very close
to like you could see this inlike seven years, like being feasible,

(14:39):
Like NASA has to be like allright, we have to say something about
Doritos. And then because they gaveus a ton of money for this,
so we could go do this thing. So that But the main plot point
is this spider that shows up onthe ship. Yeah, like, so
is this spider real? Do youguys think I think it is. I

(15:01):
think I think it's a spider alien. I think it's real. It's using
some alien tomfoolery to like not bedetected, for like when he goes back
home, like he can't prove youknow that he had a little spider friend.
Oh yeah, I think he's kindof like I think he's kind of
like an inter dimensional type of being. Yes, like you know, and

(15:26):
so that was kind of interesting andtexturized. But I think the moment they
said he said like I'm real.Yes, I would have been really upset
if they go back on that.Like I felt like it was a very
intentional like Nope, I'm a realthing, right, I'm not an imagination
and not any of that. Iexist, Yes, And so that was
the moment I was like, Okay, then I'm going to buy into that
idea and if you hurt me later, I'm gonna be really mad. And
I feel like it was real.Yeah, Like the what's the movie really

(15:50):
about though, It's about Adam Sandlercoming to grips with that and him talking
to this space spider who is likethe best therapist in the world, the
best man and really can go Iwouldn't to his mind. And when we
go into like Adam Sandler's memories orthoughts about it, the camera does like
it has this lens on it thatthe edges get super distorted and stretched out,

(16:11):
and to me, that's like lookingthrough an astronaut's helmet. Yeah,
it's exceptionally well shot. Yes,I think it's a very pretty film,
and I will say like maybe spaceis getting easier to do, But like
I was pretty bought in in termsof the space aulent pretty quickly. I
thought it was really well done.I thought there's only like two parts where
I was like, I kind ofsee where like Sandler's dangle in here more

(16:34):
than floating. But it was overallgreat. The graphics of him going into
the cloud, Oh yeah, thatwas really beautiful and well done. And
the sound design and it's great listeningto it. The surround sound they really
used aspects of that. It's awell made movie, like it's Yeah,

(16:55):
it's really just technically very well done. And I love the aesthetic of it.
This weird star warsy sort of junkiefuturistic style to it. Yes,
that was really nice. It feelslike something that could exist, right,
it's not too distant from where weare now, it feels like, so

(17:15):
it's a good leap to make.Yeah, And if you couldn't tell by
her song, the Spider has alittle kissable mouth and a thick thick ass.
It might be thickest ass on thepodcast now, I'm going to have
to it might have beat out Kevin. Actually no, it didn't, did

(17:37):
it. I remember do the shabbytournament who has the juiciest, fattest as
the thickest, thickest survival of thethickest. I'm posting this spider's ass along
with photos of Kevin James's ass andthat lady from leoh yeah, he ass

(18:00):
all together a row of sipable asses. I'm telling you, I think Kevin
still has probably probably probably his furrythough. You know, the spiders Spider.
I thought that anybody's was the designof the spider creepy with its tiny

(18:22):
little lips a little bit, butthen after a while it strangely became comforting.
I mean, I think that's probablyby design. I think that's good
filmmaking because it wasn't It wasn't trulylike a spider spider. It was spider
like, but it like the legswere more like tentaclely. Yeah, they

(18:45):
also kind of like cralled. Ohyeah, it's mouth. Yeah, oh
yeah. He loved nutella or hewas watching him eat that nutella was like
watching that guy lick a bathtub andsaltburn. Oh my god. Yeahle same

(19:07):
energy, same energy, same energy. For sure. I'll put that on
Instagram back to I won't. We'llget banned instantly for that sucking. This
movie feels like a very faithful adaptationto the book too. I haven't read
the book. I know nothing aboutit, but I do feel like this
feels like so really close to thebook, just because there are moments that

(19:32):
I'm like, I mean, Idid feel the time did start to weigh
on me a little bit, andthat was something that's like, oh man,
there's a lot. I feel likeyou could cut if you wanted to
make this an hour and a half. But but it feels like a faithful
adaptation. The subtle Eastern block ofit was really interesting, and I appreciated

(19:52):
that they like didn't force Adam's accentthat hard. I was just like Carrie
mulgan had her accent and her namewas just like And it's like I much
prefer when films do that and likejust let people use their own goddamn voice.
Then like have like have them doingaccents that they're terrible at just takes
you out. It takes you allthe way out. If Adam Sandler could

(20:15):
do it, then that would bea different story, right, But he
can't. I don't think he could. It would just be doing one of
his like bit characters, and thenthat would degrade like the seriousness of this
film. He did it enough towhere it felt like he was like,
Okay, I believe you're from thiscountry, but that accent probably just dissipated
as you became an astronaut, rightand you had to communicate with languages.

(20:40):
Yeah, and so I bought intoit. It was enough, it was
faint enough that I was like, yeah, I buy it. I wrote
down Adam Sandler's outfit he gets evenAdam Sandler in Space to wear the same
he gets his basketball. You canalways tell how dedicated Sandler is to the
film by whether he literally looks likehe gives a ship, you know what
I'm saying right, then the clothes, Like even Murder Mystery, it was

(21:03):
like, oh he dressed up ina suit. He kind of gives Yes,
It's always funny to me. Also, Adam Sandler's daughter does show up.
She only has like two lines SonnySandler, Yeah, Sonny Sandler's siding.
Yeah, yeah, that that washer in the very beginning where it's
like, what's what's it like tobe the lone Yeah, yeah, loneliest
in the world. It's so lonelyup there. It must be really bad

(21:26):
to be my dad, especially withmy mom leaving him. Shin that's the
stoy. Don't go don'tn't go away, don't go away to us host faa,
why to leave me for space Spataenough, don't go away, don't

(21:47):
go away? That's that song isdefinitely gonna be like my most listened to
song of the year. You know, I guess it shows how good the
movie is that we didn't use ourstop card and we basically saw Adam Sandler's
penis, We saw his oh yeah, and we saw a space spider sneeze
in his face, well not inhis face. I guess it's on.

(22:10):
It was disgusting, But no stopcards, no, no need no was
it ride? It was a ride? Yeah. How do we feel Adam
Sandler's acting was in this? Iguess his his character's supposed to be subdued.
Yes, yes, I think so. But at the same time,
it didn't. I didn't get thatloneliness. I don't know what do you
How do you guys feel about it? It was giving me shades of punch

(22:33):
drunk love, like channeling his PTAseriousness. I like his performance. I
like his performance. It's not myfavorite performance of his, but I think
he does a really good job andI think that he you can tell he
cares like this is an investment forhim, and I think he's really going
for it. That sounds bad,but it is. He does a good

(22:55):
job, I think. But Ido think that this is like a moment
where it's like not getting quite tothat next level though like to me,
it's still Uncut Gems is like thedream, but that feels almost like he's
playing a character more. Yes,and so he's able to separate himself a
little bit, but this feels likeit's not quite at that level for me,
I'd say this is okay. Ithink I like where you're going,

(23:18):
Caleb. I think the difference isUncut Gems. He is playing such a
specific character, and I think it'seasy to dive into that person and just
like fully be that. But thisis like close. This person is closer
to real, right, and thatis harder and more subtle to do.

(23:44):
So I think both are good, they're just very different, and especially with
like Adam's comedic chops, not thathe has been using them that recently,
with his level of like knowing comedyand immersing himself in characters, I get
that he was able to be fromUncut Gems. I can't remember the main

(24:06):
character's name, but I get thathe that was like kind of a stronger
yeah, quote unquote stronger performance.Yeah, but it almost feels like certain
actors would be able to pull offmaybe both or great like truly great actors
would be able to do kind ofplay that leading man. But I just
think that they're very different. Butit's an interesting performance. It's an interesting

(24:29):
performance. It's not a bad performance. It's not like, oh my god,
he should be nominated something like that. But what we should all be
coming away from this film thinking is, hey, everyone needs therapy, but
especially men desperately need there. Yeah, guys, don't don't wait until you

(24:49):
start seeing space yea with tiny littlekiss lips and the thick let's get too
much into it. Why does ithave your mother's lips and the gas?
You could talk to it the spacespider about that. And it's got like
Laurence fishburned teeth. It was noticeable. Yeah. I was like, it's

(25:12):
got a little gap. He's gota little gap in there, laur like,
what is this spider eating where ithas teeth? Yeah? Truly tell
apparently you don't need to tell. Also, who is the voice the voice
of the spider? Oh, Imean he did a good job. Can
I get to just be a therapist? Yea, his voice relaxing, don't

(25:37):
get scared human. That could beso scary. Yeah, that could be
so scary, but he's able todeliver it. I really got lost in
his character, which was like Ithink a testament to like C g I.
And also his work, voice work, which is good. He did
a good job. I'd really liketo know more about his character. Yeah,
I know that it's that's it's notthe point of the movie. That's
but they the writing was so goodthat I really enjoyed, yeah, all

(26:00):
of it. I mean, God, have we just watched so much bad
movie we have and this seems sogreat? Is that what's going on right
now? Because this movie is good. I mean it raises stuff that has
often problems in relationships with men.Yes, but in like the through the
lens of like the Spider raising itand it's like you never asked me about

(26:22):
myself like I had, Like theSpider has this like storied history as from
this insane world and all this whitedude I can think about as his own
fucking problem. Yeah, you know, like that's crazy. He becomes disgusted
with him at one point and it'sjust like you are an asshole, totally

(26:44):
calls him out to his face likea good therapist would. Yes, and
like that changes him a little, right, and it shakes him. It
shakes him. Yeah, it reallyis like a he's a total I mean,
they do a good job of peppering, and other really important details that
kind of heighten it, like thefact that his dad there's a whole backstory
with his dad being like part ofthe socialist breakup or whatever it is,

(27:06):
the communist break up, and sohe has he feels like he has to
live his father. He has tolike the father that's why actually yeah,
like party members, So he feelslike he has to do this for his
dad, and like there's kind ofthat realization of like no, why do
I have to prove that to anyone? Right? And so like that's really

(27:27):
interesting. The fact she had amiscare is the first time, so going
through the second time, she doesn'twant to be alone again when it happens,
like it dry, It's such importantthings that kind of really gives so
much weight and texture to their relationship, so you kind of understand them in
a really three dimensional way. Yes, yeah, I agree. I mean,

(27:47):
it sounds like we all enjoyed this. I did enjoy it. I'm
pulling up my list because we gotto put this on the Adam Sandley list.
Baby, Maria, do you knowwhere the yours is going? I
think so? All right, yougo first, you tell me where it
goes on the list. Okay,I don't think that other people will agree
with this. Oh wow, thisis your list, in yours list.

(28:07):
But I, as as the listenersknow, I did not like Punch Drunk
Love. Yeah you didn't. Imean, it's it's not that far down.
It's in the top ten, butI was not. It was not
my favorite. It's not a moviefor you, Like you don't like his
style of film, No, Idon't. And I've tried a few pta

(28:29):
films and I don't enjoy them. And the fact that it's top ten that's
pretty high. Yeah. So butto me, so this is better than
Punch Drunk Love, But it isnot better than mister Dan no Way,
really madness, no way higher thanno Way, no way, I can't

(29:08):
mister fucking John Turo's Cold Dead Foot, as we is better than this,
as we have recently talked about.I feel like mister Dean's is a banger.
I got to rewatch mister Dean's.I'll bring I'll bring the fucking thick

(29:36):
ass spider. Can't do can't dothat? Wow wows, Wow wows.
You've heard it here first? Sowhere does it? Where does that?
Your list? Spaceman is now numbereight and Punch Drunk Glove is now number
nine. Would you knock out ofyour top ten fifty first dates? Got
knocked out of my top ten toeleven to eleven? Wow? Wow?

(30:00):
Wow? So your bottom what areyour bottom five? They stay the same.
Obvious bottom five stayed the same, and those are eight Crazy Nights,
Jack and Jail grown Ups two theDouve over Duber and that's my boy.
And your top five stay the same. Go from five to one. From
five to one are the Myerwitz stories, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison on cut

(30:23):
Gems in the Wedding Singer. Wowdidn't our lists are so this are so
similar? So I'm looking and Isay it's not as good as Punch Drunk
Love for me, I did enjoythis one. I do think it's better
than you are. So not invitedto my bottom mitzvah. So that slaps

(30:45):
it in at number seven. Wowfor me. Uh, and that bumps.
Mister Deed's out of my top ten. Wo. No, but I
want you to know I'm looking atthis Murray. I might need to cause
my ten is spanglish. Oh waiteleven as mister Deed's. I'm now seeing
that I don't have so not invitedto my bot mitzvah here. Oh you

(31:08):
