be around mental health. Yes,I think, as we may all be
aware, the rise of the mentalhealth topics have been on the rise,
I think especially the last two tothree years, Like there's a lot of

there's been a lot of more likeexpression, people be more vocal about mental
health, and I thought, wellwhen not talk about it to this day
and so I'd just like to puta disclaimer that today's the topic for today
the podcast. It being about mentalhealth is nothing to do with medical purposes,

So I'd just like to share afew experiences and maybe thoughts from the knowledge
that I've gained from It's a personalexperiences and evaluations, reading books from psychologists,

some papers, and also particularly particularlylistening to doctor Caroline Lief. So
please take that name down and ifyou're able to find some time, look
this woman up. So, doctorCaroline Leaf is a neuro psychotherapist near psychotherapist,
is it neuro psychologists forgotten neuro psychologists. Yes, so doctor Carolyne Dave

is in your psychologist. She's basedin America, but she was born in
Zimbabwe, raised in South Africa,then moved to moved to America. So
she also has a book titled CleaningUp Your mentor Mess, A very good
book. I only listened to likereviews of it. I haven't yet read

it. I've bought it, butI haven't read it. But if you're
able to get it, please getit and read it. It's a really,
really good book. And she alsohas an app called the Neurocycle.
This app can be found both oniOS and andreid. You can download it
and just see what it can do, how it can help you to just
clean your mentor mess. And it'sfree. She explains a lot, especially

it comes to the brain and themind. How many people find themselves mistaking
the brain and the mind, saying, oh, my goodness, like my
brain is not working, or mymind is confused, or my brain is
confused, making such statements, youknow. But I think that once she
gets to listen doctor Caroline, ifyou will get to really understand the relationship
between the mind and the brain.And for me, it's really really been
helping. Most of the times Ijust feel like I'm going to get a

mental breakdown. Of course, afterpraying, I just go turn on doctor
Caroline Leave something to do with whatI'm feeling. I just get to listen
to her, just some things down, calm myself down, and I just
get to do some real evaluation andget my try to get myself back on
track, you know. And soaccording to doctor Caroline Leaf, like mental

health, the phenomenon of mental health, it has always always been there,
like it's been there years and yearsbefore, but then for the past years,
I think, especially during the pandemic, especially yes during the pandemic.
According to her, she says,it is not the awareness of mental health
that has actually been that has actuallybeen what can I see that has been

talked about the most, But ifyou look in depth, it's more of
mismanagement of mental health. Mismanagement ofmental health. And so it got me
thinking, you know, sometime beforeI got to really understand that well,
struggles of mental health are actually real. Because the day I sat down and

I was asking myself, what isthe difference between someone being lazy or somebody
going through a mental like a mentalhealth crisis. Maybe like depression or anxiety,
And where do you draw the line? Because I got to understand that
most of the times we get toeither judge ourselves or people are so fast

thinking that they're just being lazy ornot wanting to do something, when the
actress is what they're going through couldactually be more deeper than the listeners that
we may be perceiving or thinking thatthey're having. Because is it possible they
could be going through a mental healthcrisis, you know, And so where
do we draw the line between leazinessor somebody going through a mental health crisis?

Maybe you could help me answer thatquestion, even I don't know,
so I will quickly read not astory, just like anyway. Yes it's
a story, but just a descriptionof somebody who was talking about how they
got to realize that they were goingthrough a mental mental health issue, mental

health breakdown. And so the personsaid, I read, she said,
I I started. This is howshe started. I started like this.
It was all slowly, but Ialways picked myself up. It was always

slowly, but I always picked myselfup. Month after month, the cycle
continued until eventually I just couldn't doit anymore. My body started experiencing weird
symptoms, and one that got meof the hook was partially was a partial
diagnosis sory of neural of intercostal neurausia, at least according to the doctors.

I just started feeling in a darkback pain. It became sharp until I
said having until it led to breathingdifficulties. Initially, I just eventually sorry,
I lost interest in doing anything.I started experiencing episodes of agoraphobia.

wanted to do was be in myroom and do absolutely nothing. It was
the simple things that I could nolonger do, not the big things,
like for example, people who knowme can attest to the fact that I
never got to bed without brushing myteeth. Well at this particular time about
six months, I honestly couldn't evennotice I didn't brush my teeth until I

was in bed and reflecting on mymind day. This really really caught,
like caught my attention. Like thesimplicity of this description, you know,
it doesn't talk about how the personwent to do drugs and no, like
these are things that they will bringit down they'll bring it home. If
I should like, they will bringit. They will bring it to you.

They'll bring it to your heart,They'll bring it to your soul,
They'll bring it to your spirit,you know. And this is so true.
Honestly, this is so true.And I just I was evaluating,
and I just I just came tothis point, this resolution that we all

have to understand and learn that peopledon't just settenly lose interest in doing the
things that they've always loved to do, you know, But with careful analysis,
you find that there could be anumber of reasons they could be behaving
the way they are doing the thingsthat they're doing, or not doing the
things that they should be doing,you know. And I been away from

home has taught me a lot,you know, despite of course, I've
gotten to really appreciate my continent andmy country. I've gotten to appreciate it
so so so much. But thenwith that also you get to see that
the flows that we have they arealso very visible, especially with regards mental
health. I don't know about otherAfrican countries, you know, but for

my country, for the time thatI was growing, if you hear anything
to do with like mental health issuesor somebody has gone crazy, you know,
like before somebody goes crazy, andif they're just having like a mental
breakdown, it's like, oh,these are bazoom good diseases. You know,
these are problems for like white people. It cannot be for us.

So if you have a mental breakdown, you've gone crazy, you've gone mad.
Either it's a curse or something isjust wrong your village people have come
for you. I don't know,you know, that was the only thing
that was around it. And Ithink I used to I remember I used
to watch a lot of South Africanmovies. Also, it's Syndego and generations.

I don't know if anybody remembers,if you ever watched like most of
the terms when anybody was going throughlike a mental breakdown. In Syndego,
they'll bring like a sango mar andthey'll throw like stones on like a carpet,
and they'll be reading things and blahblah blah, all those kinds of
things. And it just took meback, like you know, for the
longest time, for the longest time, we have trusted so much in like

to treat them, and of coursenot just to paint like Africa. You

the end of the day, depression, anxiety, or any sort of mental
like a mental health disorder or crisis, it's none of these. It is
none of these things. Mental healthis not a disease. It's not an

you. Because in accepting that thosethings are part of you, if you

is just as important as how physicallyhealthy you are. Mental health advice demonstrates
