Speaker 1 (00:00):
Men today, I want to talk to you about pursuing
passions in life, pursuing talents and gifts that you've been given.
Welcome to Alpha Male Podcast. The podcast we talk about
what it means to be a man in this time
and place, strong, dominant, in control. We don't apologize for that.
(00:25):
Do you have a talent in life? A passion could be,
you know, from working on cars to complex mathematical algorithms.
Could be training dogs or horses, could be gardening, farming,
could be one of the arts, from oil painting to
(00:47):
being a musician. That's a good thing to have a passion,
to have a drive, to have a talent. I want
to read to you the parable of the talents. You'll
find this in the twenty fifth chapter of the Gospel
of Matthew. Realizing that chapters and verses are very new
additions to the Bible, but the text is there. For
(01:09):
the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man traveling to
a far country, who called his own servants and delivered
his goods to them, And to one he gave five talents,
to another two and to another one to each according
to his own ability, And immediately he went on a
journey Then he who had received five talents went and
traded with them and made another five talents. And likewise
(01:31):
he had received two gained two more. Also, but he
received one went and dug in the ground and hid
his lord's money. After a long time, the lord of
those servants came and settled accounts with them. So he
who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, Lord,
you delivered to me five talents. Look, I have gained
(01:53):
five more talents besides them. The lord said to him,
well done, good and faithful servant. You are faithful over
a few things. I will make you ruler over many things.
Enter into the joy of the Lord. He also, who
had received two talents, came and said, Lord, you delivered
(02:15):
to me two talents. Look, I have gained two more
talents beside them. His lord said to him, well done,
good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a
few things. I will make you ruler over many things.
Enter into the joy of the Lord. Then he you had
received one talent, came and said, Lord, I knew that
(02:36):
you were a hard man, reaping where you have not sown,
and gathering where you had not scattered seed. And I
was afraid and went and hid your talent in the ground.
Look there you have what is yours. But his Lord
answered and said to him, you wicked and lazy servant.
You knew that I reap where I had not sown,
(02:58):
and gathered where I had not seen scattered seed. So
you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers,
and at my coming I would have received back my
own with interest. Therefore, take the talent from him and
give it to him who has ten talents. Four to
everyone who has more will be given, and he will
have abundance. But from him who does not have even
(03:23):
what he has will be taken away, and cast the
unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping
and gnashing of teeth. Now a couple of things here.
A I think interesting this is about money, as the
parable the talent is a form of money. I think
it's interesting that a unit of measurement of money is
(03:43):
called a talent. Oftentimes use our talents to make money.
I just want to be clear about that, and also
I want to be very clear that this is about
the Kingdom of God and our number one passion in life.
Our number one thing should be to serve God, and
a number one driving passion should be odd. If it's not,
then that's an idol and you should smash it. God
(04:05):
should be the number one desire and passion in our lives,
the number one thing in our lives. But God gives
us talents and abilities and skills. Its Exodus thirty five
where he talks about the gifted artisans, gifted in all
manner of work, that was a gift from God to
do beautiful craftsmanship. I also want to be clear that
(04:28):
it can't be something evil or wicked. Right. You can't
be like, well, I really have a passion for committing adultery.
You shall not commit adultery. You can't have a passion
to be attracted to other men. It's an abomination. It
has to be something good. It can't be malimance. It
can't be evil by nature, but a good talent. Right.
(04:50):
If God give you a passion of talent for fixing cars,
you know there's nothing wrong with fixing cars. If God
gives you a passion and a talent for oil painting,
the nothing wrong with oil painting in and of itself.
Now you could paint some pretty wicked stuff. It could
be a car mechanic can cheat somebody. But if you're
using your talents right, that's a good thing. And notice
(05:15):
the one here who doesn't use the talents as taken
away and for to everyone who has more will be
given and he will have abundance. But from him who
does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
If you're not using the talent you have, why would
God give you more? And all knowing, all powerful, wise God,
if you're not doing anything with what He's already given you,
why would he give you more? Use the talents you've
(05:37):
been given. It's good to have a passion for some things.
I'll tell you what sparked this me. I started competition
shooting at a very early age, probably around fourteen, and
I still do it from time to time. I've done
a couple of outlall matches recently. I've done it less
(05:57):
since COVID, moving around a lot being a nomad. But
and I've done a few outlaw matches here. They're not
outlaw meaning like against God's law, like outlaw meaning A
lot of competitions have like a formal national governing body
or international governing body outlaw match would just be like
that local club makes up the rules and they don't
follow any larger jurisdiction. It's got a few of those.
(06:21):
But I recently got back into steel challenge. I used
to love steel challenges. You don't really need to know
what all about it, but it's like a drag racing
with epistol. It's you know, going fast, balancing speed and accuracy.
And I started doing it again and I realized how
much I love it. I've been blessed with a talent
for that, and I should use that talent. I should
(06:42):
use those gifts that I've been given. I still shoot
quite a bit my like, my main income earning job
is not podcasting. It's a private security contracting a gun
as part of my day to day life, you know,
jungle boots, war belt, body armor. But competition should like
its own thing. It's just and I have a I've
(07:03):
always had like a thing for guns and shooting. And
if you're a pacifist, that's fine. It could be a
passive physical competition shoot. But I've always loved hunting and
shooting and competition shooting. For a long time, kind of
neglected it, to be honest and I shot first couple
of weeks ago, and I just realized how much I
really really enjoyed it and how much I'd been missing it.
(07:26):
Make sure that if you have a talent, a gift,
a good one one that's not evil by nature, that
you're developing that skill, that talent and find a way
to give glory to God in it. You don't have
to just talk about God in church. You can talk
about him on the firing line. You can talk about
(07:48):
him when you're fixing a car. You can talk about
him when you're playing the piano. Somebody gives you a compliment.
It's not humility to be a liar. If somebody says
you're really good at that, like, oh, no, i'm not,
but you know that you are good at it, that's
false humility. I would submit. A proper thing to do
is say I'm very blessed. That's what I try and do,
(08:10):
and somebody says, oh, you're good at that, I'm a
very blessed man. God has given me those talent skills
and abilities because you wouldn't have anything. Don't be cocky,
but you wouldn't have any talent, skills or abilities if
it wasn't given by God. The source of all good
things is God. Any talent you have, any skill that
you possess, any resources that you have to develop those,
(08:30):
that's all a gift from God. Every breath and heartbeat
is a gift from God. So make sure you give
glory where it's due. But that doesn't mean false humility.
That doesn't mean never doing anything and being good at
it because you don't want to be good at it.
Let your a light shine in the world. You know,
lots of things can be a mission field, lots of
things can be used for evangelism. It doesn't just have
(08:55):
to be a pulpit. So is there something you were
really into that you're passionate about, that you're talented in.
One of the great things my wife and I talk
about sometimes it saddens me is that some people may
have a passion or a drive they don't even know about,
Like they just may go through their whole life with
something they're naturally good at, and they don't try a
(09:18):
lot of things, and so they don't know if they
really like them or not. So if you think there's
something you might be passionate about, hiking, fishing, hunting, I'm
talking about stuff that I like, but you get the idea.
You already know what you're passionate about. You've had like
a lifelong passion for something you know. Don't put God
(09:41):
on the back burner. But he should always be the
number one driving force in our life. He's the reason
we have breath in our lungs, eternal spirit. He's the
reason we exist and love and have passion. But that
doesn't mean not to use those things. I would submit,
use those develop the talents you've been given. So just
(10:06):
some thoughts, hopefully some encouragement thereon pursuing talents, using talents, skills,
and abilities. They're a gift from God, a beautiful gift
from God. Thanks for listening, and have a blessed day.
