Top ten items for the apocalypse. My top ten items
for the apocalypse. That's what we're gonna talk about today.
I'm gonna double dip on here. I'm gonna put it
out on Alpha Male podcast and a Gunfighter Life. Now,
you can be a man without guns, and you can
use guns without being a man, But in my world
they go together quite nicely. Welcome to the podcast. I

(00:25):
am blessed to serve you as host pullout points for
the bio or in the show notes. But I will
say first and foremost, I am a Christian, a follower
of God, and a servant of Jesus Christ. All right,
let's get into it. My top ten list for the Apocalypse.
Number one should come as no surprise to anybody who

(00:45):
regularly listens to any of the podcasts. A Bible. If
I only had one earthly possession, I hope that it
will be the Bible. Is there any other greater possession
that a man can besis besides the Word? And we
take the Bible for granted. I think nowadays because it's

(01:06):
so accessible and so affordable, Think throughout history how valuable
having a copy of Scripture was. I don't need you know,
some priests in fancy arraignment to read it in Latin
and then tell you what it means. You get to
read it for yourself and understand it. It's a beautiful
gift from God that we live in a time and

(01:27):
a place where we can have easy access to the
Word of God. Having access to the Word of God,
is there anything else more important in life? So that's
my number one A Bible. I prefer New King James
just for a go to read, but I read many translations.
I only had to pick one, it'd probably be New
King James the next one. A knife. A knife is

(01:51):
perhaps the most useful of all tools. It can be
a weapon. Lots of things can be a weapon. Can
probably pretty easily make a bunch of weapons that are
more effective than a knife with a knife, which kind
of the point of why a knife is so important.
I can do many other things with a knife. I
generally EATC a fixed blade knife, and I kind of

(02:12):
have two rules for my DC fixed blade knife to
carry day to day. It needs to be big enough
to butcher a deer or an elk, which I have
done with my DC knife. And I don't mean you
could do it like I can smash an old spent
three eight case on a rock and sharpen it and
do it. Talking about you wouldn't feel handicapped using this

(02:36):
knife to butcher a deer or an elk. And it
needs to be big enough and long enough to be
used as a defensive tool. Now there are hundreds of
knives that fit into this category. Another wrong if you
carry a folding pocket knife. Most people do, but I
would say make sure it has a good lock and

(02:56):
make sure it fits both of these tasks. But a
good robust fixed blade knife with a good steel doesn't
have to be a super steel right ten ninety five
that's coded is okay you want to go magna cut,
I certainly wouldn't fault you or any other super steel
as THIRDV. I don't think you need supersteel for this,

(03:18):
but I would say don't make it a gas station,
you know, made in China. Whatever. Those things are right,
like a good quality fixed blade knife. The next one
fire the ability to make fire. And I know you
can make fire primitively. I know you can rub sticks together.
I know you can make a bow drill. I know
you can make a hand drill, but you know, try

(03:40):
that when you're injured. And you're wet and everything is
wet and you're freezing to death. A way to make fire.
I would like to have three or four different ways
to make fire heading into the apocalypse. But if I'm
making it my top ten list, I'm gonna pick a
faralh rod because a lighter is a bit big, hefty
fera rod is gonna last a long long time, be

(04:03):
not my lifetime, but a long long time, and work.
If I get it wet, it'll work, If I go
swimming with it, it'll work pretty much any time. It will work,
big hefty pharriseum rod as a way to make fire.
And again, I would like to have a lighter. I
would like to have a blowtorch while I'm at it,
as long as I don't have to carry it. But

(04:25):
if I'm gonna pick one item for fire, it's gonna
be a farah rod. You can strike it with pretty
much anything metal. You can strike it with a knife
I just talked about. You can strike it with a
really hard rock. So yeah, a fararo rod. That's definitely
gonna be in there. The next one, probably, no surprise. Water.
Water is important. Water is important. Clean water is important.

(04:48):
Dirty water kills a lot of people today and historically,
and you had better imagine that it's going to kill
more people, and a big disaster. Oftentimes hurricanes things like that,
tropical storms, tsunamis might kill people, but oftentimes more people
will die from dirty water that gets contaminated. But even

(05:10):
if that's not the situation, right, I got giardia, but
last year I could see how that could literally kill you,
and I didn't take anything for it. I didn't go
to the doctor, healthy, strong by God's grace, man just
toughed it out. If I had been dehydrated and I
had already been you know, rocking for three or four
days and not well hydrated, I could see I would

(05:31):
kill you. Not to mention dysentery in all manner of
other discussing things. You might think you're super cool with
your plate carrier and your night vision load out, and
then you die of dysentery. That's not too cool. So
clean water is important. So my thing that I would
pick is my grail titanium water filter water bottle. I

(05:52):
specify the titanium because it's also if I'm doing water,
I want a metal container, even if the filter out
or whatever, or I need to cook in it. I
can cook in the titanium container. But it's just an
easy way to get water. All just boil water, Okay,
do you know how? And you could if you had to,
but you do, you routinely do that. Do you know

(06:13):
how much energy it takes to collect wood and make
a fire to boil water, and how much let's say
energy energy on your part and energy in wood or
other fuel, you know, buffalo chips whatever, wherever you're at,
you know how much work that is to boil a
gallon of water? And what if you're in a non
permissive environment, if making a fire is gonna get you killed.

(06:36):
So I like the real water filter. It's kind of
a push down piston system. You fill the container with water,
you push it filter down, it gives you fresh water.
Filters are supposed to last a year. Wouldn't do this
in normal times, but there are ways to back pressure filters,
so it lasts longer, but it'll last a good long time,
will last forever. No, but I mean, a knife's not

(06:56):
gonna last forever. Nothing's gonna last forever, but it lasts
a good long time. So if I'm picking one, it
would be that I wasn't picking that because it's a
pretty spendy. I would just pick a good I prefer
titanium to save weight, but a good stainless steel or
titanium water bottle. But I'd pick the grail. There have
the water filter and the metal container. Alright, the next one.

(07:19):
You probably thought it was gonna be the number one
on the list, but it's not. I generally need water
every day. I can survive for that, but I want
water every day. I want food every day, which means
other things. But a firearm, and I'm gonna lump this
all into one thing. Right. You could be picking and
be like one bullet is one thing. Okay, I'm gonna
call a firearm load out and get crazy and be like,

(07:44):
I want a full gunsmithing kit. No, I'm not talking
about that, talking about I want a firearm, and I'd
like to have several obviously, but a firearm. And you
can debate this, and we do all the time on
Gunfighter life. If there's no other caveats. No, it's not
like it's a battlefield and Zombie North three and paratroopers

(08:05):
are coming down and it's like Red Dawn Version three
or whatever movie. We're on right. If it's not a battlefield,
and I've been on battlefields, I get it. That's not
that this is not the gun I want for a battlefield,
but if it's not a battlefield, even me h professional
gun fighting. Most of my adult life military, law enforcement,
private contracting. I've had to eat a lot more times

(08:28):
than I've been in gunfights. So if I'm picking a gun,
it's gonna have to be better at getting food. And
for that, I don't think anything rival is a shotgun
twelve or twenty gauge shotgun with an assortment of loads,
easy maintenance. I can reload it. I can't make my
own black powder and prim and compound. I can reuse

(08:48):
the shells if I have to, and I don't need
a precise projectile. If we went so far down that
rabbit hole. Some people are like, oh, you're not gonna
use guns. Like ammunition lasts a long time. You can
still buy sir plus ammo from World War Two that
people are still shooting. That's what eighty years old works fine,
and most things not everything, Like I wouldn't want to
reload an AR with black powder, an a R fifteen,

(09:10):
but many things A bold Action three await, you can
reload it with black powder. It's not gonna be as good,
but it's gonna be a lot better than a person
that thinks are Gonnadu on The Apocalypse with a cricket
bat or a crossbow as dumb as dose are, but
you see them on every post apocalyptic movie or whatever. No,
I want a gun because guns are the best tool
in twenty twenty five and long after, if we have
a major disaster, they're still gonna be the go to
tool for a very long time during that time. I

(09:32):
would like one a firearm. Load out the next one
and this is maybe not a lot of people's list,
but it's all mine, and that is a fishing string
and monofilament would be okay, but I'm talking about braided

(09:55):
fishing line, like the old spider wire. There's other brands now,
but that was kind of one of the og they
use when I was a kid. Spider wire. They used
to have the ten fifty I think they still do.
One of my favorite go tos, that real thing. It's
like the same size as ten pound monofilament, which is
already very strong for its diameter, but fifty pound test

(10:16):
that is what I would pick most people would pick
para cord, I think, but it's a lot easier if
I'm taking a giant spool of this, it's a lot
easier to make a big thing of cordage. This make
really small, fine cords, and I find that coming in
handy a lot. You could use it for stitching. I've
got stitches in me right now now. I didn't stitch

(10:37):
myself up, but if I needed to, I could really
strong it would be okay for that. Not the best,
but we're picking top ten items, so it needs to
be multifunctional. You can use it to make bird snares.
I don't know if I've used braided fishing string to
make bird snaries, but I've certainly used fishing string to
make birdsnaire successfully. Also works well for stitches. If you're
heading out into the apocalypse, the gear you have is

(10:57):
probably gonna break at some point, so really strong, very
small braided fishing line comes in handing a lot stronger
than regular thread, and a plethora of other uses that
you use string for. You could, you know, braid it,
braid the braid and braid it as many times as

(11:18):
you want, and to have thicker, stronger braid. You braid it?
What three strands? That's one hundred and fifty pounds, not
to mention the actual use it was made for fishing.
The next one a good pack. Now I can improvise
a pack, I could probably find one, but a good
pack is definitely on the list. I just got done
this morning three and a half hour rock behind the house.

(11:40):
I ruck pretty regularly. Whatever your plan is for really
hard times, you should have a plan that it goes
to a man portable system, and the best way to
do that is a pack, A very good pack. Now.
I am a fan of everly Stock packs. I've just
used them a lot, hunted with them a lot. Probably
my old time favorite is the everly Stock gun Runner,
but I also like the RMEF pack. It's a really

(12:03):
big pack. Though, unless you're actually packing out on Elk,
which I have packed out Elk, I'd go with the
gun Runner. A lot of people fall into the mistake
of putting too much stuff in their pack, and they're
not mobile. I'd rather be fast and mobile than have
a bunch of crap that weighs me down. But a
lot more than this top ten list, But again, I
think more people error on the side of putting too

(12:24):
much stuff in their pack. That everly stot gun runner
pack is a nice pack, but whatever, A good quality pack,
take your pick, but a good quality not like made
for school, like made for hard use of pack the
next one. Boost Now almost didn't put this on the
list because your footwear that you wear day to day

(12:44):
should be good for this, like you should make it
a point to edc footwear that's going to get you
through the apocalypse, because you never know. But I know
many many people don't, probably the majority don't. A lot
of people wear dress shoes, a lot of people wear
you know, shirt and tie, business casual people still working cubicles.
I get it. So this would definitely be on the list.

(13:07):
A good pair of boots for your environment, right, the
boots that I would pick for central Florida would not
be the boots I would pick for Central Alaska. Boots
I picked for central Alaska would not be the boots
I picked for coastal southeastern Alaska. So a good, appropriate, quality,
long lasting pair of footwear for you wherever that is.

(13:28):
But boots, probably boots. Probably don't want to head into
the apocalypse of crocs. Now, if you got an extra
pair of crocks. They're probably good camp shoes, but you
get my point, probably gonna be boots of whatever is
good for your environment. The next one goes right with it. Socks,
really good socks, not good cheat and put those socks

(13:49):
and shoes into one. But socks are super important, really
good socks. Marina wool. I'll pack a wool, but I
would like a variety of socks, many many socks. Feet
are important. In order for your hands to fight, your
feet have to get you there. Socks are super important.

(14:13):
Now the last one I get down the list, it's
really really tough. I'm going to pick antibiotic ointment, like
triple antibiotic ointment. We may take the everygranted here too,
with sanitation and stuff, but just a small cut. Look
at how many people die from just small cuts in
the past that got infected. But I like, also, you know,

(14:33):
a massive dose of doxycyclan and a bunch of other antibiotics,
and a bunch of you know, a suture kit, trauma kit.
I would love all that. But if I'm picking top ten,
like I edc eterniquet, I encourage you to e D
see alterniquate, but eternicuate is not on here because I've
improvised tunic before and I'm here to tell you about it.
I live through it. You can make it with a
pack strap or many other things, but I can't really

(14:59):
improvise an biotics. I don't know how to make my
own antibiotics. Pretty confident I can make decent black powder.
I can't make these antibiotics. But I hate to die
from a small cut that got infected waiting to a
stream or something, or I cut myself gutting an animal,
just many things. Any little thing could be a mosquito

(15:19):
bite that gets rubbed raw and it gets infected and
kills you. That happens, it happened historically before antibiotics. So
I would pick triple antibiotic ointment that would make the list.
Now that's ten. There's a bunch of other stuff I
had to fight in that last place. Fish hooks would
also be very good, But I live in the Greater
Yellowstone ecosystem. I live somewhere a lot more aquatic. I

(15:40):
would probably put fishchooks higher on the list. If you
live in Florida, probably fishooks are going to be high
on the list. These are my top ten, don't have
to be your top ten. But if I'm giving advice,
giving guidance, these would be my top ten for where
I live. Now again, that could change. Now, that's gonna
lead me to the tactical verse of the day, Proverbs thirty,

(16:04):
at least part of it. Every word of God is pure.
He is a shield to those who put their trust
in him. Do not add to his words. Least he
rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Two things
I request of you. Deprive me not before I die,
Remove falsehood and lies far from me. Give me neither
poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food allotted to me.

(16:27):
Least I be full and deny you and say who
is the Lord. Or least I be poor and steel
and profane the name of my God. Thanks for listening,
and have a blessed day.
