Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello men. Today we're gonna talk about Vikings. Vikings were
great warriors, they were great seafaring men, great explorers, and
we've seen kind of a resurgence in popular culture and
the popularity of Vikings. But I'd say in a kind
(00:24):
of perverse, twisted kind of way. So if we're gonna
look at Vikings, let's do it the right way, the
proper way. That's what we're gonna talk about today on
the podcast. Now, I should say I don't have a
PhD in Nordic studies. I do consider myself an amateur historian.
(00:46):
I love history. I love looking into history. I think
most people, if they knew how many books I ever ad,
will call me a voracious reader. If you want my bio,
there'll be a link in the show notes. Also, I'm
mostly of Northern European descent, northern northwestern European descent. Kind
of a cool backstory on myself. My last name is Melido,
(01:09):
which is not Scandinavian, it's Italian. My family came here
from Italy, specifically, I know from Sicily. My last name
is Melito, which means warrior, which means soldier, which is
a pretty cool last name. I'm not gonna lie if
you look it up in the Latin dictionary. My last name,
Meledo is Latin for warrior, is Latin for soldier, So
(01:33):
that's kind of a cool last name, but kind of odd, right,
you wouldn't meet an Englishman named John Warrior. But when
I got my DNA results back and saw that I
was mostly Scandinavian, I looked into how can this be
since I know my family came from Sicily. Well, it
turns out, in the year around one thousand, the Church
sent Viking mercenaries to Sicily to kick out the Muslims,
(01:57):
and they must have done a pretty bang up job,
since I a thousand, over a thousand years later, almost
entirely Scandinavian, blonde hair, blue eyes, my family blue or
green eyes, blonder, red hair. Still to this day now
there's a lot of Italians with blonde hair. That's a misnomer,
especially Sicilians that are blonde or red haired. But I
(02:19):
thought that was pretty cool when I found that. No,
of course I don't know exactly if that's the exact
reason why, but that's what makes the most historical sense.
We're Viking mercenaries sent to Sicily from Scandinavia to kill
the Muslims. And with my DNA and my last name,
it kind of makes sense if they were mercenaries that
(02:39):
my last name would be Milita. That's what you would
call them when they got there, and that just became
a last name. Also, I've been making my living this
way long before I found this out. I am a
mercenary by trade. I am a private security contractor. I've
been military law enforcement and I've done many private security
contracts in modern day mercenary. Pretty cool. Brief aside, established
(03:04):
some Viking street credit with you guys again by will
be in the show notes. But why do we as
men look up to Vikings? Well, they're awesome warriors, much
like the Samurai, much like the Romans, like the Spartans,
the Visigoths, the Mongols. Right, you could go on and on.
(03:26):
They were great warriors. There were great explorers. Right. There
is almost unrefutable evidence, hard evidence that they came to
America long before Christopher Columbus. What they called Vinland but
is North America. They were here a long long time
before they established settlements in North America, and they went
(03:49):
all around. They had a vast trade network helped formed
not only the nations, but also the languages of some
European countries that you might not think of. Places in France.
The English language is mostly a Germanic language, as are
(04:11):
the Norwegian dialects, but there are still some Viking words
in there, some places in England, many place names that
we still use today. Viking in origin were great explorers,
great seafarers. And that's all well and good, all well
and good. I think as men to look up to that,
(04:32):
brave men of the past, great warriors of the past.
There is nothing wrong with that. That would be looking
at Vikings the right way and learning lessons from them
the right way. But there is this other insidious, nefarious,
I would say, kind of counterculture thing of neo paganism,
all this Viking pagan garbage. And yes it is garbage
(04:57):
that you know, the Vikings. We're a pagan, So I'm
gonna be pagan. I'm gonna bring back being a pagan.
That's garbage. I think a lot of men do it. Oh,
I'm gonna be edgy, I'm gonna be cool. I'm gonna
be a pagan. You're not edgy or cool, you are pathetic.
And I'll tell you why. From the Viking perspective. When
(05:22):
the Vikings saw the beautiful light of Christ, they became Christian.
So if you want to be a good Viking, be
a Christian. The vast majority of Vikings became Christian. So
stop trying to be cool and be some neo pagan
when even the Vikings themselves dropped that pagan garbage like
(05:44):
it was hot. You And here's the thing, do you
really think that Viking paganism is cool? Do you really
buy into that philosophy. I'm gonna almost guarantee that you
don't because you're not doing the things that they did.
Do you believe in using a woman without her consent?
(06:04):
Is that the kind of man that you are. Do
you believe in kidnapping? Do you believe in child ritual sacrifice?
Because that's what they did, That's what Vikings did, the
pagan Vikings, that's what they did. So don't tell me
you're some neo pagan Viking unless you're doing the things
that they did, which are abominations, which are horrible, disgusting things.
(06:29):
Do you believe in ritual child sacrifice? Please? That is
vile and disgusting, to mention many of the other things
that they did. The Vikings themselves were smart enough to
see when they were presented with the beautiful Gospel of Christ,
when the beautiful good news of Christianity came to them,
they embraced it. Oh maybe we don't have to sacrifice
(06:52):
our children to pagan demon deities. Maybe there's a better way.
Maybe there's a beautiful truth that we have been missing,
and now we haven't preached to us, and we're going
to accept it. And they did, and they did. The
vast majority of them accepted it. There were a few
(07:13):
holdouts that went to Iceland who converted later, but the
vast majority converted passionately to Christianity. And they stayed great warriors,
they stayed great seafarers. There are many, many great Christian Vikings.
(07:34):
If you doubt any of this that I'm saying, do
some brief restarch instead of going to Hollywood for your
Viking ridiculousness, actually look at who the Vikings actually were
and how they embraced the beautiful light of Christianity. Case
in point, look at these Scandinavian flags. They're crosses. They
(07:57):
were so passionate about Christ they made the cross their
flag game set match. Now, there were a few holdouts
that still wanted to be pagan They went to Iceland.
They did convert later when it'd be hard to when
you're still sacrificing your children and practicing paganism and you
(08:18):
see all your other Viking brethren prospering in the beautiful
light of Christ. They eventually converted to And some of
the only reasons we have their sagas written down and
their practices written down, to what they believed written down.
It's not from the Vikings themselves, but it's because of
the Christian monks and missionaries that went to Iceland and
(08:40):
recorded it. Without Christians, you wouldn't even know about that stuff.
You wouldn't even know about it. You wouldn't even know
about the sagas, you wouldn't even know about what they
believed because they themselves abandoned it. It was recorded by
Christian monks. So thank the Christians if you even think
that that stuff is cool, but don't embrace it. They didn't.
They've rejected it for the beautiful light of Christ. When
(09:04):
they realized the horrible things that they have been doing
and said, Wow, there's a better way we can be
better men. Is this a revelation to you that Vikings
almost entirely became Christian, not by the edge of the sword,
because they saw the beautiful truth in it. Well, are
you getting your history from history books, from actual history,
(09:27):
or are you getting it from Hollywood. It's like getting
your tactics and gun knowledge from video games and Hollywood.
It's ridiculous. It's entertainment. What do you think they're gonna promote.
Satan is the god of this world. You'll find that
on Second Corinthians four. But Hollywood is worldly. It's like
the definition of worldly pop culture. Stop stop getting your
(09:54):
worldview from Hollywood. Really is that the best we can do? Men?
Stop it with them. That's why you think it's cool
and edgy, because they want it to be shocking. All
the crazy pagan stuff that they did. But they became
Christian almost entirely, and they were still great warriors. Do
a quick a quick history deep dive for yourself. Look
(10:16):
at vikings like Harold Bluetooth, Aloft, Tribes, Vinson. There are many,
many more great Christian Vikings, just like there are great
men of war in the Bible. David who was sung,
he killed his tens of thousands, slayed man and beast,
(10:37):
slayd giants. Look at Gideon, Joshua, Moses, great military commanders
that led men in battle. Man not get that in
popular Christianity. But again with the popular culture, do your
own history, deep dive or actually read the Bible. They
slayed men, they drop bodies. There have been any great
(11:00):
Christian warriors throughout history. Look at the Romans. They also
converted to Christianity and became one of the major spreaders
of it in world history. Look at Constantine. He was
a military commander when he converted and continued to be
so after he converted. Much like the Vikings, they converted
(11:21):
to Christianity, they were still great warriors. They were still
great seafarers and explorers. Didn't make them worse Vikings. That
made them better men. You also be a better man.
If you really want to be a Viking, do what
the Vikings did and embrace the light of Christ. Give
(11:44):
up silly pagan ways. You probably don't actually believe that
garbage anyway, and when their ancestors had practiced it for
thousands of years, abandoned it for the beauty that is
the Gospel. If you want to be a good Viking,
be a Christian. Thanks for listening today, guys, this is
(12:06):
a little bit different. Gonna drop this on Alpha Male podcast.
I'm also gonna drop it on Gunfighter Life because I
think there's a lot of crossover. I want people to
listen to this that aren't just into guns, but I
know a lot of the gun community has this like
Viking subculture in there, so I want to drop it
there as well. I appreciate you guys for listening. I
appreciate all that you do, like subscribe to share with
a friend, and have a blessed day. I'm gonna give
(12:31):
you some tactical verses of the day to close this out.
So I'm one forty four. Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
Exodus fifteen. The Lord is a man of war. Thanks
for listening, and have a blessed day.
