Tonight, Mike, Kat & Matt are joined by Chef Mike Wisdom (@_cookwithwisdom) to discuss the 1988 cult-classic, Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

The film follows, well...a bunch of Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Let's not overcomplicate things. And while not a huge success when first released, KKfOS has gained more notoriety from being featured at Halloween Horror Nights, a recently released video game, and grumblings of a long-awaited sequel.

BUT FIRST: RIP David Lynch, RED ROOMS, THE CREEP TAPES, THE THING REMASTERED video game, and much, much more.

that we have that out of the way, I feel
like it's been a couple weeks since we've been here
in the studio, and I'm very happy to be here
talking about this movie, this time topic, and this whole situation. Tonight,

(03:03):
I have a couple of usual suspects here in studio
with me. Catherine, Hello, Parah, Heiro prize.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Can I do that again?

Speaker 1 (03:10):
That's okay? And Matthew is back, buddy, I know. I
think the last time you were on was our Top
ten of twenty twenty four. Episode mentioned you'd be taking
a little bit of time off, but I'm happy to
report that you are back. You are actually here in
person here. Yes, love, love to hear it, and I

(03:31):
shall say, as Andrew is off tonight's I do have
a very special guest in studio with us here tonight.
Dare I say this man is a chef about town,
that town being America's hometown, Plymouth itself. Anthony Bourdain might
call him a chef at large. He calls himself a
free agent chef. But you may know him from the

(03:51):
tasty downtown the mir Beau spa and restaurant at the
Pine Hills, Baldy's in Lakeville, which is a phenomenal place
by the way, the law Sure Trap and born. He's
the creator of Wisdom Ferments and most recently, the head
chef at Chicku Hot Pot in downtown Plymouth, and one
hell of a model American please welcome, friend of the
show and purveyor of some seriously tasty food, our good friend,

(04:14):
Mike Wisdom.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
Hello, Hello, is it a proper yea perfect I was
opening to te you up nicely out of the park, beauty, beautiful.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, we're happy to have you here. As I mentioned
to you before we started recording, it's not very often
that we get guests that are able to come in
and actually record with us in the studios. So it's
very nice to have you here live and in studio,
in front of a live studio audience, here at Nickelodeon Studios, right,
Universal Studios or seriously right to be so cold and

(04:48):
disgusting upside sucks. But so, Mike, I have to say,
so our relationship I think first kicked off at least
me and you.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
You and Matt know each other. Yeah, okay, so I
knew that that seeming blacked out probably yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah. So everybody's comfortable with everybody here, which is great,
and it's automatically puts us in a place that I
love to get from the get go. Right, But you
and I started talking initially when when Andy Driscoll from
Anebriart and I were working on trying to put together
the first Hants and Hops horror convention, and we approached
you about putting together a an exclusive hot sauce. Still

(05:28):
one of my favorites. Yep, I love that one. Sam
Haynes sauce I believe was the title. I still have
a bottle upstairs in my pantry.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And activated charcoal chili, black black garlic, black garlic.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, it's so good. And I remember, I think it
was two nights before we actually had Haunts and Hops
the first time we went to Mayflower and we did
like a little he needed like a live stream thing
where we were tasting the hot sauce, and I think
I think he was expecting it to be like burn
your mouth hot, yeah, and it wasn't actually, but it's
just it's so much flavor is so good. Yeah, it's

(06:01):
really really good. So this guy knows what he's doing sauces,
cooking food, and uh, you should absolutely follow him on
Facebook and Instagram because some of the photos of the
food I've seen you putting out recently. Matt, my god,
thank you. The color like very very nice, beautiful, everything
looks awesome. Artwork very much says Yeah. The plate is
the canvas exactly. Yeah, I love it. But obviously we

(06:23):
wanted to have you on the show because we know
each other and it seems like you're a fan of
horror in general, horror movies, right, so always horr. Yeah, beautiful,
And you brought this topic to the table tonight, which
is a killer clown from out of Space.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I you know, if you said you had already done
this one, I wasn't quite sure where I was going
with it because this was like all I wanted to
talk about. Yeah, I had to like think back too.
I was like, so here's what I'll say. I was like,
oh wow, so before before you.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Were Eve Run on the podcast Matt during COVID Barrett's
Haunted Mansion. Instead of being able to do their Haunted house,
they did a what they call that like a screens
and screams thing where they had a dry then where
you could go and sit in there parking a lot
and they had like a driving in theater and they
had actress come up and scare you while you were
watching movies. And we went to the double feature. It

(07:09):
was it the and the most recent movie, the first one,
and a double feature with Killer Clowns from out of space.
It was. We did not dress appropriately at all, but
it was a hell of a time.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Order food from the house, like from your car.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Get drinks, oh yeah, well actually no, we stuck. We
stuck drinks. It wouldn't deliver drinks here.

Speaker 6 (07:34):
But they didn't really see anything. They were just like whatever,
And like COVID times, there were there were some strict
rules and then there were no.

Speaker 7 (07:44):
Everything was as long as you were.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
You could do whatever you wanted with the mask. We
we definitely we brought some edibles and stuck a few drinks,
and but the food was great and it was really
cool to be able to see those two movies. So
Killer Clowns was the first movie that we saw on
the big screen, and then it after that. It was
just a lot of fun. So we did a review
of that event, and we talked about both those movies briefly,

(08:09):
but we've never had a full review of Killer Clowns.
So I felt like this is definitely a movie that
deserves a full review because I think it's a great movie.
It's very fun, it's a class and it was one
that you brought to the table. So I was like,
you know what, hell fucking yeah, let's do it. I
love it. So I'm always happy to meet and talk
with a fellow fan of horror. And I know that
you kind of watch a lot of stuff because I'll

(08:30):
post stuff on my Instagram page and you'll send me messages.
So did you, just in the spirit of our most
recent episode before actually Smile Too, did you have a
favorite horror movie from last year that you liked? H
I really liked The Substance a lot, lot lot see it.
I watch it with you again.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Terrifier three, was Terrified three. Yeah, but it was fun, No,
it was it was great.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Yeah, I saw it in the theaters. It was great.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
But I think, like we're talking about like a movie
being good, I would say The Substance.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Was definitely the best picture really, Yeah, amongst other things. Yeah, yeah,
it's I believe the seventh. They're calling it the seventh
horror movie to be nominated for Best Picture.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely just,
you know, over expectations.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, it was great.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
I feel like, yeah, Margaret quality is also fucking babe.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Yeah, yeah, it doesn't hurt. Yeah, I was, I was.
I was very surprised by that particular aspect because I
remember Matt was championing that and I was like the
girl from with the Harry Armpits from Once upon a
Time in Hollywood. Yeah, yeah, the one yelling at Brad
Pitt's Yeah, Ranch, he's crazy. Yeah, she's crazy, but she
looks very good. So wait, wait do you see the song.

(09:44):
It's a good one. Yeah. But I honestly, like Matt
and I talked about this, it's just so funny because
that movie, I feel like I didn't like going into
twenty twenty four. I didn't really know anything about that movie,
and it came out of left field and it was
just absolutely phenomenal. When I saw it, I was like, oh,
my fucking movie goes not And it's just so different.
It's just different, you know, it's in your face. The

(10:05):
fact that the old crusty assholes in the Hollywood Academy
are recognizing this as one of the best films of
the last year, I think is just a huge step forward.
It's incredible because I mean, this is now alongside movies
like Jaws, The Exorcist, I believe, get Out, Sounds of Lambs.
So they said this, so I can look it up
right now. But there are seven. What are we missing?

(10:27):
I keep going no, no, but it's just it's so.
The substance is just really good and it should be seen.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
That best Director, best actress, with them anymore, best original screenplay,
great move makeup effects, best which it's probably I mean,
good chance it gets the best makeup because of it.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
So horror loosely right, But I do think I would
agree that most of these movies are actually horror. Most
let's see hold on one second. I can't get this
to actually go because my service, thank you Verizon, who
I used to work for, they suck. So the Exorcist,

(11:10):
Jaws is two, Silence of the Lambs three, the Sixth
Sense for black Swan a Substance six, and get Out
seven good company, good company for the substance, and I
think it's clearly better than the sixth sense. I like

(11:33):
it better than get Out, even though get Out it's
a great movie. Yeah, but I mean again, in very
good company.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
This is definitely the craziest horror movie to get nominated.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
For Oh my God, and the ending at the very
the ending is bananas and kat.

Speaker 7 (11:49):
Just I convinced Sarah that she should watch it because
once it got nominated I told her, I was like,
this movie might.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Actually get nominated for an Oscar.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
She's like, it's it's super weird and like listen. I
was like, it's going to just wait. I was like
that anymore, just want to fucking golden globe? Yeah, and
she's like okay. And I showed her like the speech
and she's like wow, that was like really cool. And
so I was like, you got to watch this movie.
So I think I convinced her that I gotta. I
want to get the Blu ray of it. So once

(12:19):
I do that, we'll watch it.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Maybe I'll get it. I'll pick it up on the
way home Friday and we can Watchday Nice Nice.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Well.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Usually golden globes are a good indicator of what's going
to be nominated, might win stuff for the Oscar. You
know what, dude, I think that Anora movie. I like
that as well. So I still I still haven't seen that.
That's up there for me clean House. I heard, I
heard it's phenomenal. I know you recommend it highly. I
still haven't seen it.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
What's that? I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Mikey Madson I think her name also for a Yeah,
she plays the real fucking crazy bitch and that to
get on fire and then falls in the plays like
a stripper falls.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
In love with a Russian kid who's tied to the mafia. Yeah,
all time.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Laugh when she's lit on fire and she falls into
the pool with DiCaprio and just get his headphones off
and she falls in and he just goes, Holy die
that every scene insane, dude, Brad Pitt high on sequence
cigarette and skipped in what is an acid? Yeah? I
love that movie so much, so good and just awesome,

(13:20):
awesome stuff. So, okay, cool, it's the substance your favorite?
Did you have anything else that you liked besides the
substance that you considered? You don't have to answer that.
If you don't have anything, I'm just off the top
of my head. Yeah, I can't. I can't really recall
it fair enough. That's all right. I ask I like
to ask guests this question, do you have what are you?

Speaker 7 (13:42):
What are your That's a two part What is your
all time favorite horror movie and what is the scariest
movie you've ever seen?

Speaker 1 (13:50):
All right?

Speaker 2 (13:50):
So my all time favorite horror movie is the Original? Yeah,
just like Tim Curry the Crazy Spy, and.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
I think it's just like more than nostalogia. For me,
it's like my childhood. You know.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
One of our friends was really afraid of clowns, and
we would put it on and fuck with her.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
Yeah. But the scariest movie I've ever I don't know
about that question. Yeah, that's tough.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Let me think about that while we're doing this, and
let's let's go back.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, because I'm not sure. Yeah, Yeah, I'm always curious
what people's scariest movies are. Yeah, that's okay. It takes
time to think about it while we pour a little
bit out and raise our glasses to rest in peace
for one David Lynch, who did pass away between now
and the last time I recorded, which obviously probably one
of the most influential directors of all time. Yeah, and

(14:48):
has directed some of the weirdest and most esoteric horror,
if not if not completely horror horror Jason movies of
all time. I am a big fan of David Lynch.
The only David Lynch thing that we've covered on this
podcast was a Raserhead, which is a fucking insane movie.
Great movie. I'm also a big fan of Twin Peaks.
I love Maul Holland Drive. I also love Lost Highway,

(15:11):
Blue Velvet.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Velvet watched it was on TV and it just started
ye and I was like.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Yeah, I I've I've kind of made it my mission
to go back and rewatch a lot of David Lynch
stuff now that he's passed. Hard to work.

Speaker 7 (15:24):
Yeah, it's it's you can't do you can't like hammer
it all on a weekend. No, No, you gotta like
kind of space it out a little bit.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, It's one of those things like you either you
either like it or you don't, or you love it
or you don't. And I feel like for most people,
like the kind of the entry to David Lynch is
Twin Peaks, which so like you guys Twin Peaks fans.
I've watched it like one time.

Speaker 7 (15:46):
I've watched it through and I was like, it's a
lot stoned and drunk living with Mike Bennetti and yeah,
I didn't really grasp.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
It's certainly a lot. I would say it's definitely like
a precursor to shows like The X File and others.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Me, it's one of my favorite shows all the time.
So like, I love Mi the mics are Michael.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
I love that beautiful. Yeah. I mean I can talk
about the X files all day. So we're talking about
the x file whenever. Whenever we do X files, will well, well,
I mean.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
You guys on your own abouts if you guys the same.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
So obviously David Lynch visionary, very smart guy, very funny
guy too, like in a lot of the interviews that
he'd done. And it's just, uh, remember like when you
texted me, Matt saying rip David Lynch. I was like,
wait a second. I googled it and I saw nothing.
And I saw on Facebook like his family had updated
his Facebook page to be like, hey, listen, this is

(16:41):
David Lynch's family unfortunately passed away. That sucks. I mean,
lifelong smoker, you know, yeah, you know. So it's he
was old. I don't know how old actually he was.

Speaker 8 (16:50):
I want to.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Say he was like early seventies, okay, either early said
I don't.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I think he was like at least seventies, okay, so
that's not that old. I could be wrong. He could
have been like late. He didn't look bad for the
age that he was. Great, great head of hair, great
head of hair, Yeah, beautiful. I would not have that
head of hair when I age seventy eight. Okay, all right, cool,
that's good. Well, either way, take this as a sign

(17:18):
deal listeners to go out and watch some David Lynch
stuff and remember him for the visionary filmmaker that he was.

Speaker 7 (17:25):
And I got to get some more of his A
lot of his movies are on the in the Criterion
collection yep. So anytime a movie if I'm buying them
and they are available as a Criterion movie, I like
to get those because they come with a lot of
cool shit. Ye come with a book about there's essays,
there's everything.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
I like that.

Speaker 7 (17:42):
I have a racer head on Criterion. But I know
like Mulholland Drive is on that Lost Highway is on that.
I think Elephant Man is on that.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
I thought about Elephant Man. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
Yeah, So like I want to try and grab the
rest of those at some point. They're always up for sale,
and I'm just like, I don't want to spend thirty.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Yeah, Okay, Well, David Lynch rest in peace and go
watch some David Lynch stuff, all right. With that being said,
I felt it'd be as good of a time as
any since we haven't met and talked in a few weeks,
that if anyone has watched any interesting stuff, maybe we
could do like a little roundtable here about some of
the stuff we watched, Red played, et cetera, et cetera.

(18:24):
I have a few things I know Matt. Usually it's
going on Instagram and seeing Matt's story. I know Matt
is always watching stuff. I was actually gonna offer to
grab that. So you didn't do that, Okay, that was
one of the things I was going to talk as
well as you didn't knock the beer over, Matt. Do
you want to start? Uh? Yeah.

Speaker 7 (18:42):
So I've been working my way through my like folk
horror like box set thing that I got, and so
I have these you know that.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
I have a huge like yeah, yeah, I love it.

Speaker 7 (18:55):
And so I have these two box sets from Severn
Films that are like it's called the folk Who Compendium,
and it's like fifty something movies between the two box
sets of just like all different countries folk horror movies.
So I've been kind chipping away at that because I'm like,
all right, let's let's get into this. So I watched
a couple of those movies and each one, like each

(19:18):
disc has like a couple like but like short films too,
which like they're really short and like, yeah, some of
them like that.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
That's fine, it is what it is.

Speaker 7 (19:26):
But one of my watch was called Eyes of Fire,
and it takes place like way long time ago, like
period in era, and this family and kind of like
sort of commune almost forming, get kind of outsted from
where they were. One of the daughters they think is
possessed or a witch or something.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Yeah, and she's just kind.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
Of like nuts and they send them out and they
go to find kind of a safe haven in the
woods and they realize.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
That there's like demonic spirits in the woods.

Speaker 7 (19:59):
Kind of was like not stoked about it, and I'm like,
you know what, I got to watch these movies. I
want to kind of like work through them. And I
was like, wow, this movie fucking rocks. So it's the
late eighties, it was it's called Eyes of Fire. Wat
I own it, but I think it's probably on TB
or YouTube.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
You love to be is great. That's where I watched Killer.

Speaker 7 (20:26):
And so I did watch that and that was a
lot of fun. Ma Mia, make sure I got all
my fucking ducks in a row here.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
This is why I take pictures of everything that I watched.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
I have to take notes to, Like, if I watch something,
I'm like, I have to take notes because otherwise.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
I'm like, I.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Like that because I was getting a little stone myself,
so I don't want to forget everything that I was.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
I did watch.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
A movie that just showed up in the mail yesterday,
so Barnes and Noble did a sale on Area.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
I ordered it.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Barnes and Noble did a fifty off errow Video Releases,
so I got a couple of movies from that, and
one of them is called Incubus from nineteen sixty six,
starring It's very instagram William Shatner.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
I saw that, Yeah, I saw on your Instagram.

Speaker 7 (21:15):
Yeah, someone on the wing, so he knows some he
I forget the name of the language. It's some sort
of like dialect of French, but it begins with an
E and it's like kind of an outdated language.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
And so what it's about is about this. It's like
a seventy five minute movie. It was a nice quick watch.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
It's in black and white, and there's like a Sucubis
who is kind of like taking down, taking down, yeah,
and she's she's kind of taking down like losers like
people that are like bad people.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
And sending them into hell and killing them.

Speaker 7 (21:49):
And she has a lust to corrupt a good man
and her.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Like reminds me of something I read recently her Yeah though.

Speaker 7 (22:00):
Hot too, and so the I don't know what to
call her, but her like overseer basically is like, you
can't do that because they have a more powerful thing.
It's love, and you're gonna fall in love with them,
and it's going to corrupt you.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
And that's what happens.

Speaker 7 (22:14):
Like, she goes and sees this guy while they're together,
and it's William Shatner. There's an eclipse and for them
that's considered they spent a night together, and that's like
not good for a succubus.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Does that mean? Oh you know what I mean?

Speaker 7 (22:28):
So, so in the meantime, William Shatner's sister like gets
kind of like hypnotized to stare at the eclipse and
she goes blind.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
And so while that's.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
Going on, like he's running away with her and they're
having like a great day and he ends up taking
her into an altar to like marry her on the spot,
and everything goes to shit. They summon the incubus up, like, dude,
seventy five minute movie did? This movie went fucking nuts
for a movie from the sixties. It's apparently one of
the most cursed. Multiple actors killed themselves and murdered and everything. Yeah,

(23:04):
it was pretty legit. It seemed to be an episode
of Cursed Films on shutter but honestly it could be.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't so. But I saw that,
and I saw something about it, and I was like,
you know what, this is.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Twenty dollars, I'm just gonna buy it.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Yeah, yeah, So yeah, I got that, and I got Alice,
Sweet Alice.

Speaker 7 (23:20):
When I got my little Hall from that, I watched that.
I watched a movie called Necromantic.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
This movie is fucking gross.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
So it sounds based on the title, I can imagine
what the director his name is like your bout.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Geese and yeah, fucking sure.

Speaker 7 (23:47):
So this dude directed another movie I've seen called The
Death King, where it's like kind of an anthology series
about different ways people die.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
But this movie is about a woman and a guy.

Speaker 7 (23:58):
The guy's a corner and they're just like obsessed with
like keeping body parts from the people that die, like
they have jars of like from Albahydro really.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Keep organ through.

Speaker 7 (24:06):
This movie is disgusting, and so she's she's obsessed with
banging the corpses and so yeah, very yep.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
She puts like five hours long movie.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Apparently, No, dude, it's pretty fucking over the top.

Speaker 7 (24:24):
So but I got that like in a hall that
I got like a few weeks ago, and I'm like,
all right, let's like try this out.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
And I was like, oh, yeah, this movie.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
The Yeah, I mean, if you're trying to watch some
extreme horror, that's definitely up there. For sure.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
It is hell.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
It is repulsive and disgusting. So if you want to
have at the beach with.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
That, I'm like, where would one probably look that one up?
On the dark web? Yeah, you gotta find that on
like uh.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
I forget the there's like a movie website that you
can look stuff up.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
I forget what it's called. But it's not all no.

Speaker 7 (25:04):
It's definitely not too But there's a movie website that
has like all the like really brutal like the like
the Japanese like Guinea Pig movies and like ship like that,
Like we can find all that Serbian film is probably
on there.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, so those are my most recently instead of a
widespread Chacuterie board, seriously board of.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Don't. He's always very pressive. Yeah, I always curated. I'm like, Matt,
what movie am I watching? If I love people ask
me that? Yeah, I give you a recommendation.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Did you ask him for the New Year's Halloween?

Speaker 1 (25:50):
Halloween?

Speaker 7 (25:51):
I did it, So I didn't. I got a few
people to do it this year, but last year I
probably made like close to thirty lists for people. So
that was, how.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Like can I give you? I'm like, just watch every movie? Yeah,
do it? Mike and or Cat. Do you have anything
you want to talk about? I have a few things.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
I know, I don't really anything besides the British baking show,
great British baking show.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
On Netflix called Younger.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
It's about terrible, oh bad from Hillary Duff. Yeah, how
you do? Got me there? Hillary Duff said it, she
is speaking of aging like a fine wine. Hilly Duff,
What did I watch that?

Speaker 4 (26:44):
I watched the thing?

Speaker 1 (26:45):
What was it? Come back? I was gonna say so,
like not horror, but a really really good show, especially
if you like if you're Irish out there and you're
like Irish stuff. We started watching a show called Nothing,
which is about people that are in the I r
A and throughout this like the sixties, seventies and eighties
and nineties. Like it's a it's a time spanning story,

(27:08):
multiple timelines. It's about not about like people around the IRA,
it's people in the IRA and how they do fight
against the like you know, the the British government and
the crown and all that. And it's actually really I
think we're what three or four episodes into it out
of yeah, eight, it's it's awesome. I'd recommend it if
you're an Irish American or if you don't like the

(27:29):
British patriarchy at all, watch I don't know. It's it's
on Hulu, so it's it's an FX show, so like
it's doing like the the FX exclusive on Hulu thing.
It's actually on FXX has the movies. Sounds like a
TV show. FX also has say Nothing, it's a show
definitely a TV show. Yeah, it's like it's I think

(27:51):
it's like eight or nine episodes.

Speaker 6 (27:52):
We're like halfway through, but the interview story it's like
it's the big hitters that were in the IRA.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Like undercover people.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
It's coolers all the people. So it's it's basically the
stories about the two women. They're both sisters that became
bank robbers or the liberate funds for the IRA is
what they call themselves. So they'd go in and rob banks,
dress like nuns or whatever else and they'd say we're
liberating we're liberating funds for the IRA. Ah exactly, they're

(28:22):
liberating their living funds. It's important because before that point
it was just mostly men doing that. But everyone in
it is a character and real people and check it out.
It's one of the main characters and this is Jerry Adams,
who is now a politician in Ireland who always always

(28:47):
denied his ties to the IRA, despite the fact that
he's a major Irish politician right now. But he's a
major character in the show, so it's like widely known
that he was in the IRA, even though he's never
actually admitted that he was in the IRA. So it's
it's a really cool show. Yes, your hands up.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
The lisakudro oh.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
And I forget what no good deed, No good deed.
We watched the whole thing of that are not run. Yeah,
that's my one one cast all right, so not horror,
but let me tell you on this ensemble cast. Okay,
Ray Ramano, Lisa Kudro, Dennis Leary, Luke Wilson.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Uh uh, Lisa uh no, Linda Cardellini, how are you
ye uh, and then a bunch of other.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
People from freaking gee freaking.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yeah, yeah, yes, exactly.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Good show, good show. Dennis there is looking Yeah.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
I feel like he was on and I was like, oh.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
You I feel I feel I think the intention was
to make him look old, but because he's supposed to
be out of prison and like you know, he.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Was just on a Jimmy Fallon thing and he looked
kind of the same.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
He's also almost seventy eighty. I drank like a fish
is still smoking eight thousand cigarettes too, Death Loved, Loved
Dennis Leary and Rescue Me Too. That was a great show.
He was He's an awesome actor, but he's definitely like
he's looking like he's.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
Been a lot of stuff in a while.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
I feel like he's always been a very good TV
actor and some movies. Yeah, So that was great. That's
my only good stuff, all right, So I get a
few things. I will say. Finally, saw Red Rims, Matthew,
what do you think? So? I thought it was incredibly
fucked up, and I won't I won't spoil too much

(30:52):
for you. It was an awesome movie. I think it
was the most David Finder movie that David Fincher is
never directed. And I am probably one of the biggest
day David Fincher fans on planet Earth. So if you're
a fan of like seven or Zodiac or you know,
so like yeah, anything like that, this is going to

(31:12):
be right up your fucking alley. The only thing, don't
be a dumb American. It's in French. The whole thing's
in subtitles, so pay attention to it. And I remember
you said this on the topisode. It's it's a very
slow burned movie and it takes a little while to
figure out what exactly is going on. But once you
figure out what is going on, there are times I

(31:34):
my jaw, there was one time where my jaw dropped
with what the main character was doing. It is fucking insane.
Red Rooms. It's on Shutter right now. It's finally it's
on Shutter now. You don't have to rent it if
you have a Shutter subscription, which again the best subscription
that you can buy right now is shutter whever they
have this year. It's fine, So check out Red Rooms.

(31:56):
I'll say awesome, very fucked up, very disturbing, but already good.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
The first twenty five minutes is a like almost a
single shot long shot.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Of like a court deposition. What Yeah, and so.

Speaker 7 (32:11):
You absolutely have to pay attention because what it's about
is a trial where this guy kidnapped and killed like
three young girls, and it gives a lot of detail
about what happened, who they were, and then the main
it's about the main character's obsession with this case.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Okay, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 7 (32:27):
And so but that opening sequence, like I'm not kidding,
it's like twenty twenty five minutes long and it's just that.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
But it's so disturbing too, because it's.

Speaker 7 (32:34):
Like fucked in half dude, Like it is like you
and it just gets them. You think that you're like, Okay,
this is gonna go one direction, and it is. You'll
never imagine where this.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Movie ends up going. I'm gonna have to watch it.

Speaker 7 (32:48):
It's it's This was my number two pick for the year,
and it was yeah, it was number one, and then
I rewatched The Substance and I'm like, I can'tnot pick
this is so good. Red Rooms arguably a better movie
than The Substance. Really, it's it's it's it's close. It
definitely would have made my top ten.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
I'm not sure which movie I would have booted out
if I had seen it before we recorded our Top
ten episodes. This was Top ten movies. Excuse me, but
it was great. I really really enjoyed it. And dude,
it's like I would I would like it too, Like
do you remember remember the scene in seven where after
the Lust kill the guy is in the interrogation room

(33:29):
and he's describing how he had to put on the
on bladed dildo and the girl to death and he's
talking about it and he's hyperventilating. Like it's very similar
to that, Like you don't actually see very much. The
descriptions and the sounds are so distinct. It's like it's wild.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
It's absolutely it's the most fucked up movie I've ever seen.

Speaker 7 (33:54):
And there's absolutely zero on screen violence. Yeah, that's actually accurate.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
What nothing? No blood? Good for them? I mean they
did a good job. That's yeah, that's what I mean.

Speaker 7 (34:06):
Because you get into it and you get some pretty
other things, but it's what the characters are doing and
how they're going about doing certain things.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
It's just it's so fucking twisted.

Speaker 7 (34:18):
Yeah, it was like one of the darkest wese I've
seen in a long.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
Moral of the story the dark Web that place. Yeah,
so don't in the dark Web. So, speaking of Shirt,
I also checked out the first few episodes of the
Creep Tapes Someone pretty good. So were you a fan
of like the Creep movies like Creep one, Creep two?
So I like them. I love them too. This is
kind of like a light version of little short Stories

(34:48):
in the Universe with the same character Louis episodes of
Creepy and it's like, yeah, it's good. It's like a
little anthology series about the killer from Creep and it's
really good. I would I would recommend checking it out.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
It's on shutter from the Leagues, it's just right, so, yeah,
isn't always it's a guy from the league. And then
you're like Mark, Yeah, Mark Duplas was in the league
with like what's what's the guy's name?

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Nick Nick Roll?

Speaker 2 (35:23):
And uh yeah, the guy that played Taco and I
forget all.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
The other the musician he's married to the girl that
was his wife and that show too.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
She's actually like, yeah, fuck whatever, but I like I
like that show a lot, and that I liked The
League a lot, and this show is actually pretty worth
checking out if you like the first two Creep movies.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Absolutely, I think it's a good continuation of the series.
So with that being said, two other things that I'll
report on really quick. We have the Thing on in
the background while recording right now, which I think it's
now over. It's over, and it's movies. And uh, back
when I was about sixteen years old, there was a
Thing video game released on PlayStation two that I rented

(36:08):
from Blockbuster, and it was so fuck hard I couldn't
figure out how to get past the first like ten
to fifteen minutes. And now it has been remastered and
re released on next gen consoles, so I now have it.
Oh you have it on my Xbox one? What? And
it's phenomenal. How's it look? It looks great. It looks

(36:28):
like truly remastered and great. It's great to watch. So
like we actually so the TV behind you, Matt, I
know the listeners can't see this. We just mounted a
new TV that's about twice twice the size of the
tea that we had down here before. So it's good
to play video games on. And I fully wanted to,
you know, check this out and play it. It looks awesome.
It's a really fun game, and it kind of takes

(36:50):
the theme of the Thing to a different level, where
like you're playing as it picks up immediately where the
first movie leaves So like John carr and Or for
a while called this an actual like what he would
have considered to be a sequel to the Thing in
terms of story. But basically you're picking up immediately after
the first movie leaves off, and you're a different military
team that comes in to try and value a situation.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Again.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
You're you're you're examining the American base, the Norwegian base,
and so the entire time with you, you have a team,
and you can control the entire team at whatever time
you have like one at any point, Yeah, so pretty
much at any point you have an engineer, a medic,

(37:35):
and a battle guy with you, and you you are
like the main guy. So you like you have to
monitor your team the entire time to see if they
trust you enough or not. So, like the trust factor
is a huge thing, and there are different things that
you can do to either bring your trust up or
things that you can do to uh like lower your
trust with all every every member of your team. So

(37:56):
it's a really cool uh function of the game. Very stressful,
but like you know exactly, so like you the entire
time you ring around outside trying to find where where
you're trying to go next, and if you're outside for
too long, there is a meter that basically goes down.
If you're outside too long, everybody will go crazy and
kill you, and then you have to get inside. And

(38:17):
then there will be times when it doesn't even sound
like sounds like like it's crazy, thing crazy, right, because
you'll get attacked by things, right, You'll get attacked by
things with your team and then all of a sudden,
one of your team members will just explode into a

(38:37):
giant thing at the same time, like it's wild.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
It's absolutely it's so much fun. It's actually not fun,
it's stressful and crazy, but it's like, if you like
the thing, it's absolutely worth checking out.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
So that is the Thing remastered, which you can now
purchase on any of the remaster and any of the
new consoles. So I have I have a I don't
have an Xbox X. I have an Xbox one. I
don't have the new four. Have a switch.

Speaker 4 (39:05):
And a PS two, that's great.

Speaker 7 (39:07):
I have an Xbox three sixty that's in the basement
shipped away with a bunch of games.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
I may I have somewhere a Super Nintendo. I'm missing
one of the chords.

Speaker 6 (39:17):
It's a crucial chord, and now I don't even know.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
I can probably get it.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
I know.

Speaker 4 (39:23):
I've also find super Intendental. It's over there.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
In a box to get the certain things that hook
up to the new TVs. Yeah, what do you mean
you can't just plug in the there's a red white.

Speaker 4 (39:34):
On some well.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
I mean I think on that TV you can really.

Speaker 6 (39:37):
Yeah, there's some well, because that TV is from so
that TV that we just took down that was up
here was from our old apartment when we lived in
Mark Drive, what like ten years ago. So it has
it's got the color, it's got the color hookups. So
and that's why I'm almost like kind of hesitant to

(39:58):
get rid of it, because I'm like, I mean, there's
nothing wrong with it.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
It's next to TV. I don't even know if this
one has the colors.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
I don't it? Does it? Does? We do? We do? Yes?

Speaker 6 (40:11):
That was me.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
Actually that's the newest. No, I lied the one on.

Speaker 6 (40:14):
Then that's the second one.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
You have to save up to one. Yeah. No, yes,
I think a huge TV for like two seventy it's insane.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
I think when we first went into this house and
we bought the TV that's now mounted down here, seven
say yeah yeah.

Speaker 6 (40:32):
And then now the one that we have the same size,
better TV new we just bought less than a year
ago was like three hundred.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Well, I remember, so my dad came to help me
mount mount this TV uh in the living room right
after we moved in the house, and it was finally mounted,
all hooked up, and the first thing I put on there,
I mean and my dad watched like The Stranger Things
to trailer and I was just like, oh my god,
this is the coolest thing I ever seen in my
entire life. So it was awesome. Now they're all thirty yeah,
now the new season is coming out supposedly this year,

(41:00):
and they're all like, you know, they're all adults. Yes,
last thing I'll report on real quick because I do
want to say I do want to give a shout
out real quick. So I have made a point this
year to read more books. And this is a book
that Matt gave me last year, holding my left hand.
It's a book called Come Closer. You recommended it to

(41:21):
me a while ago. Matt and I listened a podcast
that I listened to all the time and is a
big influence on this podcast, Colors of the Dark, which
is on the Fangoria podcast network. When they were talking
about their top ten horror movies and top ten horror
things of the year, Elrick recommended this book and I
was like, you know what. I was like, you know what,
Matt gave me that fucking book. I'm going to read it.
This book is one hundred and fifty seven pages and

(41:45):
I read. I read it in pieces for about a week,
and then at the end of it, I probly finished
the last one hundred pages in about forty five minutes left.
That's almost exactly how I got it. It's awesome, it's
so good, and it's such a unique take on an
a possession story. Yeah pretty big, Yeah, yeah, I know.
It's definitely. You can blow through it really quick, and

(42:07):
it's the pros. It's very easy follow it's it's kind
of just like this happens, This happens. It's like, you know,
it's not really like hard to follow.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
When you when you read so much Stephen King, you
read other authors and you're like, what the fuck.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Oh you just wrote a book.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah, I'm like, it's like, dude, you just wasted two
hundred and ninety pages on just describing people's fucking genes.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
Like it's like you.

Speaker 7 (42:33):
Really get into other authors and you're like, wow, this
is like fucking right to the goddamn point.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
So, but the new version that you gave me has
like so basically during throughout the story, she's reading a
book where she's trying to figure out if she's possessed,
and it has like a questionnaire that she continually reads,
and it's like on a scale from one to ten,
if like one through four, you're not possessed. If if
you know, if you have more than five, you're possessed.

(42:59):
If you have more than six, you need to seek
help like immediately. So like throughout the book, like those
things pop up continually. Yeah, and it's it's it's it's
it's really fun. I like this is like the first
book that I've the first actual book, not an audiobook
that I've actually read from cover to cover in like
a long time, and I really really liked a lots
of work. Thank you back. I still have your copy

(43:22):
of The Ruins. That's fine. Yeah, that's that's actually that's
a really good one too. So yeah, Come Closer by
Sarah Graham. It's I think that book's like almost thirty.
It might be over there years old. When when I
was reading it there were no cell phones. Yeah, I
think it's from like two thousand and two. Yeah, so
it's cool. It's like two thousand and two thousand and
three something like that. So man, I'll give that book
back to you. Look at the look at those things.

(43:44):
It's like, are you possessed or whatever? It's weird. How
do you like? The first page of the book is
how how to know if you're possessed? This questionnaire? It's
really cool. Yeah, So immediately, like I was like, I
think I was giving my daughter a bath and I
like had it with me and I was like, you
know what, I'll just read for a few pages here
while she gets pretty theresh around. It really does, and
it's like a different take on how somebody can become possessed,

(44:07):
like little problems at home first, like little noises, and
then all of a sudden, she's like she's fucking other
men and then chilling like yeah, killing people and killing killing.
It's wild. So it's really really good, really good. So yeah,
that's called Come Closer by Sara Grant. And yeah, so
that's those are the things that I've been watching, reading,

(44:29):
playing over the last couple of weeks. Uh, Mike, anything
anything else before we move into Penguin.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
That's not horror, but it was great, dude. I thought
the Penguin was awesome too. I love that.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
I really thoroughly enjoyed it. Yeah, eight episodes, it was
a good show. So Kat loves Colin Farrell. He was amazing.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Yeah, I forgot it was him and then did you know.
I was on the second episode and I was like,
holy shit, that's Colin I know.

Speaker 1 (44:56):
Yeah, Okay, So yeah, he's awesome in that too, and
I think he this is definitely expansion on that character.

Speaker 4 (45:01):
So you're talking about a series.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Yes, it's TV. It's on it's on HBO. We should
we should watch.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:08):
I love to watch Colin Farrell in a series.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
I mean, it looks nothing like Colin fat Load.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
He looks like a fact. It's like Tony soprano pretty much.

Speaker 1 (45:20):
Yeah, like spot Off. It's a good show though. He's
so good, active, phenomenal actor. Do you ever see the Banes? Oh?
Did we? Yes? We did? I don't think I've seen
that fantastic movie. Yeah, that one him and for him
and Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keegan.

Speaker 4 (45:41):
Right, I remember, I was like, I remember we watched
it one night.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
But it's like Island Forever. All the Irish people. I'm Irish.
That makes sense, all of us slash slashed your peeps,
all right? What you said? Absolutely? There we go with
that being said, Do we have anything else that we
want to talk about before we jump into tonight's topic?

Speaker 2 (46:07):
Say we get into it? Yeah, let's do it all right?
So before we jump into night's topic, why don't we
take quickly second break here from word from our quote

all of our little fake sponsors that we have in
our little promo lad that we do every single time.
I mean, they're not actually our sponsors. It's just a

(47:41):
little promo reel that I put together. Thank you, Thank you, Mike.
I appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (47:47):
Thank you, Matt.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
Anyway, so we are back and we are here to
talk about a little movie from the year nineteen eighty
eight called Killer Clowns from Outer Space And if you've
never heard of Killer Clowns, about of space. It's a
nineteen eighty eight American science fiction through the comedy horror
film Total Producing produced by the Kyoto Brothers, who also

(48:09):
created the practical effects and makeup, with Steven Kyoto directing
from a script he co wrote with Charles Kyoto. It
is the only film written or directed by any of
the Kyoto brothers. Say that five times fast, I dare you.
The film features an ensemble cast including Grant Kramer, Suzanne Snyder,
John Ann Nelson, and John Vernon, who plays Officer Mooney,

(48:30):
and it concerns evil extraterrestrials that resemble clowns arriving on
Earth and invading a small town in order to capture, kill,
and harvest the human inhabitants for sustenance. Currently streaming on
tub Although I will say, Matt, you will appreciate this.
I had it on my DVR in this past October
during AMC's Fearfest, So I watched it that way the

(48:55):
Fearfest commercials, and I was like, you know what, I'm
kind of gonna watch most of these and it was
really cool to watch fun editor.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
No, it wasn't that I haven't had everything in there.
I didn't know this was only PG thirteen movie. Yeah,
for some reason I thought it was like more gory.
There's a lot of kills, but they're not gory.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
They're getting covered. Inn Here's what I'll say. So they
in the A m c. Fearfest version of this movie,
they edited out edited out all the swears, but all
the gore was still there, which all the swears aren't
barely anything at all. You get a couple of fo
couple of ships, a couple of goddamn. I don't even
think you get any fox. I think you do well,
you only get But also, what what year was.

Speaker 3 (49:38):
This I.

Speaker 1 (49:40):
Was born? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (49:41):
Yeah, Polter Guys initiated no Poulter Guys eighty two after
Poulter Guys Guy came up.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
With PG thirteen. Oh yeah, because they were like, this
is Josh Pga. Poltergeist, Gremlins and uh Indiana Jones and
the Temple of Doom were three of the most influential
beas to get to get the PEG.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
But I feel like when movies are.

Speaker 6 (50:05):
There's so many movies that are older, that are rated
so much less than they would be now if they
came out now then exactly.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
Yeah, yeah, so many.

Speaker 4 (50:15):
I mean there's tons of them. So you're kind of
like looking at things that are PG thirteen and you're like,
h that wouldn't fly today. No, and half of this
movie also wouldn't fly today being released anywhere.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
So there's that. There has been an update, a couple
of updates to the Internet Movie Database, which I really appreciate.
And if you click on a particular movie that if
you scroll down on a particular movie, I should say,
there is if you click on, like you know, the rating,
it will show you specific categories as to you know
whether or not it's mild or moderate. So the first

(50:50):
one is sex and nudity, violence and gore, profanity, alcohol, drugs,
and smoking, and then frightening and intense scenes. That's what
they d it on. And according to IMDb, for profanity,
there are two uses of fuck, thirteen uses of ship,
eight years of hell, two uses of son of a bitch,
two years of goddamn, four use of damn, one use

(51:13):
of bastards, two us of Jesus, and one use.

Speaker 7 (51:16):
Of boobs and eleven uses of kunt yeah, but always
knuck those ones.

Speaker 1 (51:24):
Just threw them right. Yeah, pretty funny, pretty funny.

Speaker 4 (51:26):
But do they still have that M A L A TV?

Speaker 1 (51:29):
Oh? Yeah, that's so like when I when I watched that,
that's not going away.

Speaker 6 (51:34):
I feel like I don't Maybe I just tune it
out now if I see it or adult I don't
really no, I mean yes, I mean I eventually.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
Will have to.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
I just watched a movie about a lady bang the
dead guy. Yeah, that's five that's r that's not it is. Yeah,
it might be, to be honest, maybe. So Anyway, this movie,
if if you don't have it on your d V
R R yeah, will be born. If you don't have
it on your DVR. From AMC Fearfest, you can watch

(52:03):
it on two B right Now, which continues to be
one of the best free streaming services out there, does
have an eighty six percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes
and an eighty one percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes,
way higher than I thought. Same, Yeah, it surprising to me.

Speaker 7 (52:18):
Audience lower than I thought. Yeah, critics substantially.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
I did not think critics would even fuck with this
movie whatsoever. Has a budget or had a budget I
should say, of one point eight million dollars, and I
was not able to find any box office information because
it was certainly not a hit, but it was first release,
but it certainly has gone on to become one of
the biggest cult classic horror films of the eighties, if
not of all time. And also worth noting that sequels

(52:46):
have been in development hell since the film's original release.
One of the Kyoto brothers stated in twenty sixteen that
he hopes to produce three additional films, possibly a TV series,
and the latest update on this was in twenty eighteen
when NBC Universe in sci Fi announced that they were
in talks to license the rights to make one or
more sequels. So I believe it went down. Yeah, we'll

(53:09):
see Disney down. So I think Disney does not an
NBC Universal, So I don't know if that's actually accurate.
I read something about Disney shutting it down. One man. Yeah, dude,
all right, all rights fuck so they can seriously, they
can fuck off. But what I will say so Killer
Clouds Am Out of Space also had a huge shot

(53:30):
in the arm when it was announced in twenty eighteen
that Uh, they would be featured in a quote unquote
scare Zone at Halloween horr Night's twenty twenty eight in Orlando,
Florida were basically so basically, instead of one of the
haunted houses, one of the scare Zone areas outside in
the park would be themed to kill a clown swax Space.
I'm going to be so easy to do at Disney

(53:52):
Universal where it's so like, yeah, they're not shooting people,
it's popcorn.

Speaker 7 (53:59):
Yeah, And I'm like, they look, they look so goofy
that it's like, for sure, it's not you know what
I mean, it's not anything over the top.

Speaker 2 (54:07):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (54:07):
The scare Zone did so well that the following year,
Killer Clowns from out of Space returns a full fledged
hot house at Halloween Hard Knights in Orlando and Hollywood.
It was also turned into a hot house in Hollywood
Halloween haller Knights back in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 7 (54:21):
So I almost was like, do I just let layload
just fucking right, would have fucking killed yeah, ye.

Speaker 1 (54:30):
Scared the ship out of me as a kid. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (54:33):
And also the most recent thing is that there was
an online a CEME what they call an asymmetrical multiplayer game,
officially titled Killer Clowns from Outer Space of the game
was released on June fourth of this past year, twenty
twenty four.

Speaker 1 (54:46):
Does a game you can go on and play right
now where you can play as either the Clowns or
the like they do that.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
Oh, I did see that. Wait, so that's out.

Speaker 1 (54:54):
Now, it's all right. Now everything is online. So basically,
if you have an online online subscription and you have
an Xbox or the four five.

Speaker 6 (55:04):
Or whatever else, I will drop my Lord of the Rings,
not Lord Harry Potter, no host the Dragon.

Speaker 4 (55:12):
Game I have on my phone, and I got Hogwarts on.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
My thing and yeah, you got Hogwarts on your things.
I don't want to get that checked out.

Speaker 4 (55:21):
And really I'm really trying to do all my side.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
Thank you for saying that, And I have to say it.

Speaker 6 (55:27):
I only have one quest left and it's like the
end of the Doctor and I haven't off I'm just
flying around balloons now.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
This is like so anyway, what I mean to say
by all this is that Killer Clowns at the time
it was released not a huge movie, has since come
on to become a huge thing, and I think deservedly so.
Might be one of the epitomes of camp be cheesy
eighties horror comedy, and uh, it's well deserved as being
cult classic. But with that being said, I feel like

(56:01):
I should defer to our guest, mister wisdom here yea,
as to why you picked this movie. And I know
that you have a special affinity for this movie, So
talk about kill a coofs, Motor Space, why you picked it,
why you like it, and everything in between. My general
discussion this.

Speaker 2 (56:17):
This movie, I remember just being one of the first
movies as a kid that I watched where I was like,
what the fuck is happening? And you know, it wasn't
like a Latin or whatever, like Leaves or some shit,
because as a kid you don't like, you don't really
control what's on the TV that much. But yeah, when
you get the chance to see something like Chucky or
something like this, you know you're gonna take it.

Speaker 1 (56:39):
But yeah, I remember ending and I just was like,
I like clowns, I like this, like whatever. That just
was I fuck with that. I like it a lot. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (56:47):
The music, the music's amazing, Music's fantastic. Just just the
kills in it, you know, all the kills. Uh, there's
like shadow puppets on the wall and the monster eats people,
the acid pies that like melt the cop great just
you know over the top kills but again like no gore.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
And you know, it scared the ship out of me
though I was a kid and I just remember like
having nightmares of clowns and uh. But for some reason
wanting to watch it again. And I guess that's kind
of what horror does, especially when you're a kid. But yeah, scared, no, no, yeah,
because it's one of my favorite movies. Well that is
confusing to me, but yeah, what are they gonna do? Yeah,

(57:25):
like they gotta honk your nose or something like you're fine.

Speaker 1 (57:28):
I just I find it so interesting, like watching this
movie again, and the more and more I watch it,
just the I guess it's like a campy, stupid movie, right,
but like the people that are just like all of
a sudden, the clowns just show up out of nowhere,
and people like it's normal and they're like just like
what the Yeah, it's a clown delivering pizza, is a

(57:51):
clown doing puppets, And I'm just gonna like, bad ship
happens to all these people. That reminds me of like
you have like the opening have you ever seen the
movie The Stuff? Yeah, I love the opening scene of that.

Speaker 7 (58:03):
You have this thing crashed down and there's all this
white gel on the ground and the dude just dips
his finger in it and puts it in his mouth.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
I would probably do the same thing though.

Speaker 2 (58:12):
But it's just like, damn, it's just that that eighties like.

Speaker 1 (58:19):
You see me in the woods, you turn around, I'm
eating something, like I'm taking you.

Speaker 2 (58:22):
Know what I mean. The eighties horror mindset is just
it's so what's that? Yeah, Yeah, it's just that always
cracked me up in the Stuff and my guy just
immediately just dips his finger and shoves it down his
Stad'm like, what the.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Fuck is wrong with you? Like what a weird star?
So Matt Killer clowns a out of space your thoughts?

Speaker 7 (58:43):
This this is like a weird one for me. It
always like I've seen it a few times back in
the day, and I always never was like okay, like
I was just it's this is fine. And I think
it grew on me more as I got older, because
I think it's like how you look at it, how

(59:03):
it's kind of a nostalgia thing. Yeah, I will say
it is like it is like quintessential eighties horror though yes, yeah,
it holds a space in at least like the top
five of like if you were to make like a
thing of like what is eighties horror?

Speaker 1 (59:22):
You know it's it's in there. It's with it's with Reanimator.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Yeah, and like Return of the Living Dead and like
American World from London, like it's there's certain movies from
the eighties that are like these are like your Bullet
Points and Killer Closs from Out of Space has that
spot in it.

Speaker 7 (59:41):
It can't be it's goofy. It's creepy enough, it's not
over the top. It's gateway horror.

Speaker 2 (59:49):
It's it's a movie for kids, like you know what
I mean, Like it's like this, this is a horror
movie that like younger kids can watch and be like wow,
I need more.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
Of thatah, Like what what's going on this movie? Yes?
What are more things that are like it?

Speaker 7 (01:00:02):
And it was funny like watching because I we watched
it after the Haunts and Hops Fest this year we
went to Dirty Water. We had the party afterwards, and
it was like there was no sound, but it was
playing in the background.

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
While like the band played and everything.

Speaker 7 (01:00:19):
And just watching it it's just like cracking up being like, yeah,
like I haven't watched this movie a long time, so
I like watched it again like for this and it
just was like, yep, nope, this is still exactly what
I remember it being.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
So it's good. It's fun. Yeah. So but it's like
this is a movie when Layla's like seven or eight,
I'd be like, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Oh yeah, well they don't have like serious.

Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
No, there's nothing crazy.

Speaker 7 (01:00:42):
I just I I absolutely think this is like it
needs to be in the conversation of like what makes
up eighties horror and what it was all about, which
eighties horror is an endless plufferra of fucking so much stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
But it's it's it's right up there.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
So even with how it starts, you know, the big
uf foe comes down and they're like, let's go check
out what's in here, which is like, are you doing yeah,
the movie exactly yea, but the uh no, I was
I was happy to kind of check this one out again.

Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
So it's a funny one. So I have to say
so based on what you guys just said, so many
of the characters in the film based on my research,
including Mike Tobacco, which is the actual name of the
lead character. The Tarenzi brothers and Joe Lombardo were real
names and based on real childhood buddies of the Kyoto brothers.

(01:01:32):
Mike Tobacco was known for bringing girls to the makeout
point in their town with champagne in this glob compartment
and a rubber raft in his back seat. And the
Tarnsi brothers really did rent an ice cream truck with
the hopes of getting girls a bold move. Wow, dare
I say.

Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
My first thought is like, can you actually fit a
bottle of champagne in your glob?

Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
I thought that too. Yeah, probably the whole front seat really.

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Been a whole bottle. I mean, yeah, maybe back then, what.

Speaker 1 (01:02:05):
If it gets shooking up while you driving? There's just
so yeah, so much potentially.

Speaker 2 (01:02:11):
You're just trying to have a good time. The paint
everywhere it's of course called make up, of course.

Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
Of course. Also like when when the Trenzi brothers roll
up and they're trying to sell ice cream just lick
on a stick or whatever else they're saying, it's like, dude,
come on, like really, and they're with the two. Like
most beat chicks, they're like, now we're not going to
get the girl. Yeah you won't, like you know that

(01:02:40):
is anything wrong with this, But they're with two hefty
chicks and they're like, like, you said, we get up
all the ice cream we wanted and there wouldn't be
any repercussions. And they're like, well, well no there would.
And he's like, well, you know, keep your shirt on.
We'll take you home. I'm like, well, yeah, my god.

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
The chick clowns like towards the end, they're like, oh
my god. Then they have the lipstick all over their faces.

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
It's like the boobs just like blow up and you're
like are you are you whatever the names of her friends, Yeah, yeah, exactly,
Like oh my god. All right.

Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
It's like okay, cool, settle down, settle down, guys. So anyway, Cat,
I know you like this movie a lot too. This
is one of your one of your favorites.

Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
Yes, no, I I do really like this movie.

Speaker 6 (01:03:20):
I haven't seen it in a long time. I didn't
recently rewatch it for this podcast. Apologies, I'm offended.

Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
I know, I'm sure. I feel bad.

Speaker 6 (01:03:30):
I tried, but I should be honest to be honest,
I didn't. I love though the whole way that they're
just like the entire movie, they still are just clowns.
They're doing like balloon animals, like weird random things, even
though they're you know, killing people as they go.

Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
The gimmicks are hilarious. Yeah, the sniffing dog if my
mate real quick, just before you continue, Like I don't
mean to interrupt, but like the fact that not only
they're doing clown stuff the entire time, but the whole
town is amed too clown stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
Yeah, like the burger joint is called like Big Top
Burgers or whatever else, and there's like a carnival in town,
like it's always yeah exactly. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:04:09):
That the music, like all of it's awesome in this movie.
It's a great it's a great watch.

Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
I like it.

Speaker 6 (01:04:15):
I do want to watch it soon now that I
didn't actually watch it for this episode, but now I'm like,
oh no, I do, because I kind of did like
the Top Kill. Actually I tried to watch the whole
kill count. They have it on YouTube. Oh yeah, I
got to like twenty eight or so for like fifteen
minutes in and it was like a half hours.

Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
So I don't do you know the kill count in
this movie?

Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
Uh, when I looked at it, it was over forty
people as well. Okay, yeah, I love that. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
So it was all like all of them, and it
was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
What we call the Welcome to Die count yea which
only certain people understand if you're a fan of the
X Men arcade game.

Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
It was the like Dumpster and then the Shadow Guy.

Speaker 6 (01:04:54):
And but the Shadow Guy was really cool the way
that they did that, because it was like he made
this yeah, like the Shadow t Rex.

Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
And yet I do feel like they killed a lot
of like elderly people in that movie, like the majority
of people that I were like, oh, what the fun Like, well,
I mean, who are who are the most likely people
to trust class? I guess the older people because they're like, oh,
they're also dementia, Like you didn't order pizza, lady, that's

(01:05:23):
not you obviously didn't order this pizza.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
So the funny thing is so all of those kills
where it's like, you know, pizza delivery and a couple
other things where the clowns just like show people's doors.
That was all studio interference because they actually went to
the Kyoto brothers and said you need more clowns killing people.
So that was actually like that was not in the
original script. That was actually them saying to the Kyoto brothers, like, hey,
you need more clowns and more clowns killing people. But

(01:05:49):
I think like the one of the things about this
movie is that the clowns. This is just a master
class and practical effects and props and all that, right,
because the clowns look awesome totally the entire movie like this,
it's there's no cgi here, it's all practical. They all
look really obviously, yes you can tell they're fake, but

(01:06:11):
they look weird. Other worldly, great way of putting it,
and they look weird, which is just like you just
accept that that's what they are and that's what they
look like. Yeah, like yeah, and it makes you think
about questions like what makes the aliens think that looking
like clowns would be a good decision to come to Earth?
But also it's a good decision. It's also really cool,
so it's like, what the fuck you, Like, I don't

(01:06:33):
think they give a fuck. Yeah either way, they were
going to function it up. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So it's
it's just a it's a really good movie and I
think the music we we mentioned, I think originally.

Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
Stuff this play is like it's a fifties it does
like is that when it takes place. I think it
takes place in the eighties. Reminds me of a movie
like The Blob though.

Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
Yeah, that's what I mean. The fifties movie.

Speaker 7 (01:06:58):
Yeah, like or like Invasion or Invaders from Mars or
something like that. Like it just kind of has that
like old timey b movie feel from like the fifties.

Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
Oh for sure. Yeah, it has to be what they're
fucking going for. I think that's something that's definitely in
this movie's corner is the fact that it's not taking
itself very seriously, and you know, like throughout the entire movie,
like this is they're in on the joke. They have
fun with it. Yeah, they have a lot of fun
with the entire thing. Like it's not too serious. Like
there's some parts that are like I guess if you're

(01:07:30):
a little kid, could be kind of scary, like the
old Like the only.

Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
Thing that I find like, all right, I was terrified
as a kid, but okay, so like I get that,
but like the only part, like watching it again that
I found particular to be creepy.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
Particularly to be creepy, excuse me, was the ventriloquist puppet
scene with Officer Mooney. I thought that was that will
forever to me be very creepy because the clowns holding
him up and he's got like the makeup on his
face and on it stuff, and like his voice is
just distorted enough where it doesn't sound like him, but
it does sound like him, and I love that part.

(01:08:06):
And obviously, like, you know officer, you know, Doofy, whatever
the fuck is he's in there. Different movie, Deputy, Yeah,
Deputy Doofy, he's in there. He's like, what the fuck.
But yeah, the characters are clearly archetypes, and all in
all of this, it's it's just really it's one of
those movies where you have to kind of suspend disbelief,
take it for what it's worth, and he's taken at

(01:08:26):
face value, and just enjoy the ride. So I love
this movie. One thing I will say so it was
originally supposed to be titled just Killer Clowns with ks
on both ends. However, the Kyoto brothers did fear would
sound too much like a basic slasher movie, so they
they'd add from outer Space to acknowledge the humor, which
I thought was a go go perfect right good move.

(01:08:50):
It's a good move for them. If you guys had
a guess, what do you think? The most expensive prop
in this entire movie was the spaceship spaceship okay, anything else,
Catherine one of.

Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
No the little noise maker thing noisemaker?

Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Okay, all right, good guess so what I will say? Uh?
The majority of the budget on this film was spent
on production locations. Because the Kyoto brothers had such experience
in doing all of the you know effects themselves, they
actually were able to do that for next to nothing.
The most expensive prop in the entire movie was the

(01:09:38):
popcorn gun. Popcorn gun included a compressor inside that would
fire real popcorn. It was the most expensive prop in
the movie, costed costing nine asking to be costing seven
thousand dollars, and it took shit six weeks to build.
Damn wild.

Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
But I mean, nowadays you could probably find a pretty cheap.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
You could probably if you go to well again, it's
not the same exact thing, but if you go to
Spirit Halloween every you know, starting every August, you can
go there and buy a popcorn gun because they have
all kinds of killer clown stuff there and.

Speaker 4 (01:10:12):
Does it actually wow, yeah, does it actually shoot right?

Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
Well? The guns? I had the bag and when you
pull it back, and.

Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
So does it actually shoot? Like I'm actually curious.

Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
It actually did shoot popcorn? Not that movie, No, I
mean like the one that you're the one, the one Halloween.
I'm not sure. I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (01:10:34):
Maybe I'm going some inwebs research real quick for sure.
How do I how do I pop popcorn from my gun?
Can I do that?

Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
That?

Speaker 9 (01:10:45):
Is that a thing?

Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
So Spirit Halloween actually is a year round business. If
you go to their website you can buy stuff from them.
So they could probably tell you on their website.

Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
Killer Clowns from outer Space popcorn gun?

Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Would you pay one hundred dollars for a popcorn gun
from Killer Clouds day? And I would say, yeah, this
is cool, this is very cool.

Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
And it even was like that, oh, yeah, this is
really cool. It's from Yeah, it's it's cool.

Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
It's I don't even need that for Halloween. I just
want that popcorns. So let me let me ask you this,
what did you think was the coolest aspect of the clowns?
The alien clowns arsenal. Was it the popcorn gun, the
circus tent, spaceship, or the cotton candy cocoons? What do

(01:11:33):
you guys think was the coolest part? The cotton candy
cocoons I think have to be there. If I'm going
to pick out of those, I would say that, I
would say the acid pies. I would say that was
really cool too. Also, I forgot you mentioned the balloon
dogs were also really cool. The dogs are terrifying, really cool. Listen,
it was scary, okay, guys and traumatized. You're laughing at me, now, No,

(01:11:55):
it's okay. Here's another thing for you. So the the
jeep at one point where what's the police officer's name,
David David something right? Whoever? Deputy Dewey, let's call him
for saying the argument. The jeep that is covered in
and filled with cotton candy webbing was loaned to the
production by a local car dealership. They were told by

(01:12:17):
the effects department that if they sprayed the jeep with PAM,
the webbing would not permanently stick and could be wiped
right off. However, the solvent in the webbing caused major
damage to the inside of the car. Particularly to the
seats in the finish. This necessitated three thousand dollars in
repairs and a different car dealership before the production could
return the jeep to its owner. I mean, either way,

(01:12:38):
it's going to be all greasy, even if that works.
Spray it with PAM Yam. Spray your whole car with PAM.
Have a seat, that's crazy, Yeah, gross, your entire your
entire car with PAM. Gross butter flavors.

Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
Yeah yeah gross.

Speaker 1 (01:13:00):
Also, originally the clown Zilla, the big clown at the
end Terrifying, was supposed to be made with stop motion animation,
but due to production cost and limited time to shoot,
they made a suit instead, and there was a person
inside of that, and you did actually get a Wilhelm screre.
I always like to note when there's a Wilhelm scream
when somebody actually because you can hear it. When the

(01:13:22):
King Clown or clown Zella throws Rich and Paul's ice
cream truck apparently as a Wilhelm screen. You know, Wilhelms.
He just picks up the truck, right, yeah, throws it. Yeah, awesome,
that's a band I know that. Yes, love that. Wilhelm
screams are fun to keep track of because it's in
so many movies and it's so much fun to look at.

(01:13:42):
So yes, and then and then let's see, do you
guys want to talk about some other nineteen eighty eight
horror movies? I Do's Okay, also released in nineteen eighty eight.
This is now the third movie that we've covered from

(01:14:03):
the year nineteen eighty eight. Two good year. We've covered
Child's Play, Terrifying, and they Live Great mo.

Speaker 6 (01:14:14):
It is funny when you were talking about like how
when you're a kid you watched like I'm like, Chucky
was totally a movie that.

Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
I couldn't sleep I watch.

Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
Yeah, I had slippers that I thought were gonna literally
come to life and kill me, Like they had to
not be in my room if I was sleeping.

Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Yes, you know that was like last week, but like whatever,
you know, it makes it more funny because I've seen
the pictures of you as a little bit. This is true. Yeah,
this is very true. Terrifying.

Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
It's now adult trauma.

Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
Now now I feel like I'm not a psychologist, Like, yeah,
what's going on? This is indetention, isn't it. Yeah, sh
ruined his life way to go. I share that way
to make it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
I come back in the well if we're going. You know,
it's like you said, you know, what's your what's the
scariest movie you've ever seen?

Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
I think you know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
I saw it as a kid, and it's just it
was stuck in my head and I had nightmares Hell
Raiser with Nice as a kid, and it's like seeing
it as an adult, You're like, this is so dumb,
Like it's great, I love and it's yeah, it doesn't
hold in terms of like kind I would wake up
with cold sweats just like I want to sleep. Yeah,

(01:15:27):
the chatter got come on.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
The whole dynamic of like what is scary when you're
a kid versus what scaries your adult is actually a
really big thing. Like I remember, like, for instance, I
told Matt about this a couple of weeks ago. You're
also around NAT's age, so you might not remember this.

Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
No, he's here younger than me.

Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
So Zeke the Plumber the episode, the Zeke the Plumber episode,
Salute your Shorts Man, one of the scariest things. Put
it on YouTube. Yeah, search for it. It's about five
minutes long and it's so creepy. It's so it. But anyway,
Also from nineteen eighty eight, we also got and I
wasn't done.

Speaker 4 (01:16:05):
There was someone else I was gonna say. Now, I
forget what I was gonna say, though, if you.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Remember, we get back to it. All I'm sorry, was
it my fault? Was okay? All right? Also in nineteen
eighty eight, we got Beetlejuice, the original Beatle Juice. Great
great film, great movie film. Yeah, nice film. Yeah, I
thought you would have more to say.

Speaker 6 (01:16:28):
Yeah, I just watched you yep, because I'm trying to
think of what I was trying to just say it.

Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
I know, I'm all messed up.

Speaker 1 (01:16:34):
It's okay. Now you're just like why, I know, right White.
Possibly my favorite film from the year nineteen eighty eight
was The Blob remake. Yes, Matt, that's so good, so good.
The it is the like the glorious fucking movie. Yeah,
ever since, I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
So that's that, Sarah argues, that's one of the reasons
she doesn't like movie. Right there, the guy getting pulled
through the drain so good. I can understand that that
that would get Johnny Smith scare.

Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
So I might watch that when I go home. I
have not seen the it's not streaming anywhere right now
when I have it on my watch list on Google. Yah,
so I have it, so it's it basically set to
send me a message whenever it's I don't think so
wow the Blove. We also got Brain Damage, which they
head the latter movie in nineteen eighty eight. We also

(01:17:23):
that's a fun one.

Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
Ye.

Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
Also we already talked about Child's play Dead Ringers. I've
seen the nineteen eighty eight Kronenberg movie Elvira Mistress of
the Dark, which is absolutely fatal attraction. Good movie.

Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
Matthew Friday The Thirteenth Part seven, The New Blood. Great,
we got Fright Night Part two, Halloween four, The Return
of Michael Myers.

Speaker 1 (01:17:51):
That's a good movie.

Speaker 7 (01:17:52):
It's a really really good health underrated, under love, underappreciated.

Speaker 1 (01:17:58):
Also would argue that I'm bad. Yeah, oh dude, that
one though, That one holds a special place. Man. That
was a nostalgia movie for sure. That always is the
epitome of Halloween season. Okay, yeah, love it good? Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
Also hell Bound, Hell raisor Two Very Eyes also great movie.

Speaker 1 (01:18:17):
Arguably better than the first one.

Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Maniac Cop in nineteen eighty eight, Campbell Knight of the Demons,
Banger a Nightmare on Elm Street four, The dream Master
phantasm to shout out Andrew.

Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
Not bad, that's a good one. Poltergeist three, The Girl
you know the girl died and you're like, mm hmm
yeah ye speaking spoiler alert, banger yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
Actress yeah, speaking of bangers, Pumpkinhead Yes, oh love that
movie phenomenal. Speaking of dead kids, God yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
We also in nineteen eighty eight a Return of the
Living Dead Part two. Mm hm, I loved it. It's
not it's terrible. Up next, shout out to uh, the
Pride of You, mass Amherst, mister Bill Pullman, The Serpent
in the Rainbow. So good, so good. We talked about

(01:19:22):
they live with the whole episode on that. That movie
rocks John Carpenter forever. We also got.

Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
Sleep Away Camp Too, Unhappy Campers Until Death Matthew, which
is a Lamberto Bava movie.

Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
I've never seen that, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
Also got Witchery, which is a shallow movie featuring David
Hassel often.

Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
I know, I know that.

Speaker 1 (01:19:47):
Sounds great. Ye did not see this, uh, followed by
Zombie z O m b I three, directed by Lucio Fulci,
was my last one for nineteen eighty eight. Yeah, so
decent year for hor I would say, yeah. And winding

(01:20:07):
down for sure from the eighties author of Madness Guys
interested to hear exactly what was very successful at the
box office for the year nineteen eighty and okay, any
guests for what the number one movie the year was
nineteen eighty is any genre? This is one of my
favorite movies of all time. Nineteen It's not ET, right,

(01:20:29):
ET was before ET. I'll give you a hint. It's
a movie that is a combination of animation and live action. Labyrinth. No,
it is who framed Roger Rabbit? That is yes, I
went one of my favorite movies of all time. I

(01:20:50):
don't know what's the great movie? So friend, Roger Rabbit
number one of the box office in the year nineteen
eighty with one hundred and fifty six point four million dollars,
followed by Common to America at number two. Motion that
was like cartoonive action.

Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
I thought you met like a never mind, I'm getting
all the mixed up.

Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
Good Morning Vietnam at number three with twenty two million.

Speaker 4 (01:21:12):
I love that movie. Robin Williams is the I Know
You O. Robin Williams my favorite.

Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Actor at number four Big from Tom Hanks one hundred
and fourteen point nine mil.

Speaker 4 (01:21:24):
What a good year?

Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
Movies Number five Crocodile Dundee two one hundred and nine
point three million dollars. That's number six three Men and
a Baby ninety and a half million dollars. Number seven,
die Hard eighty three, Number eight Moonstruck eighty million dollars,
Number nine Cocktail seventy eight point two million dollars, and

(01:21:48):
at number ten Beatle Juice seventy three point seven million dollars.
A good year. Also an eighty eight fish called Wanda, Rambo,
three Bull Durham, Great Movie Nightmary and elm Street four
dream Master. We already mentioned that. Let's see what else
was good that year. Bambi re release. Obviously you got
so excited about.

Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
That rain Man number thirty three Office great movie. Earnest
Saves Christmas. I want to go back to watch Ernest.
They used those killer clown masks in U right there. Yep,
stupid So.

Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
Brothers did actually design all those masks. Another fun fact too,
since we mentioned the fact that killer clowns kind of
regained notoriety at Universal Orlando when they did Halloween har
Night stuff there. The Kyoto brothers also designed all of
the ghosts and monsters for the Ghostbusters show that was

(01:22:51):
at Universal Studios back in the nineties.

Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
So they're still kind of are they They're not doing
it now, but they're not doing it now because there's
no more Ghostbusters thing there.

Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
But it's actually a really cool thing to think.

Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
There's a band named Kyotos that's named after I've heard
brother yep, I look, I came.

Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
Ever I never got to see them live because my
girlfriend at the time made us late. The Silverstein Loves
Over two thousand and seven.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
They played at the Palladium with like from First to
Last and the tray Yeah Dead I think so. I
saw Tray You one time with Deaftnes, Story of the
Year and uh god who else.

Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
It was at the Worcester Plays first show. Yeah, I
love to play it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
You hate it? But do you know.

Speaker 1 (01:23:37):
I have stepped on so much vomit at the It's
Great Taste of Chaos Tour.

Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
The first show I ever saw that I was Deaf
Tones with the headliners tray You, Yeah, that was awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:23:47):
Thrice thrice was there there under Great Band also forty
eight Fatal Attraction, Wall Street Gorillas in the mist Eddie
Murphy Raw, that's pretty rare. A bunch of stuff. Yeah,
good good Good year for the film, Good Good Year.
Faddle Attraction, the one with the closing the legs. Yeah, yeah,

(01:24:08):
that's that one with Sharon Stars opening and closing her legs. Yeah.
All right, guys, that's what I got on Killer Clowns
from Outer Space and the Year in Film for the
year nineteen eighty eight. Is there anything that I have
not covered or anything that anyone else would like to
get out there before we sign off and say good
evening to anyone that might be listening to go ahead?

Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
Did anyone have a favorite clown?

Speaker 1 (01:24:30):
Ooh, that's a really good question. So I don't have
names memorized.

Speaker 6 (01:24:36):
No, what I mean, you could be like the one
with the thing that you know, the one that goes
to this I think I like the bigger one clown Zella.

Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
Yeah, like the big big one at the end, or no,
like the bigger one that's like on the cover of
the movie and yeah, like.

Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
That's like, oh, so the bigger one at the end
is clown Zillo.

Speaker 7 (01:24:52):
Like I don't yeah, not that I don't know their names,
but the one when they the one that like tries
to hop on their car when they're trying to get away.

Speaker 1 (01:24:59):
Yeah, okay, that's to me, that's the one like that.
He's like kind of the seemed like kind of the ringleader.
I think I have to agree with him.

Speaker 2 (01:25:09):
Yeah, Like the little guy is kind of funny, but
you could just kind of like ge him a little.

Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
They do a good job. Yeah, they do a good
job of making all of them kind of different though. Yeah.
Oh they all look great for sure.

Speaker 6 (01:25:20):
Kat Oh No, I don't really have a favorite I
like honestly, but yeah, I just I thought that I
thought maybe someone else had.

Speaker 4 (01:25:28):
I do want to watch it again. I actually we
have drawings that we grew.

Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
Years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
Like it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:25:40):
I just think it's fun. Like I think my favorite
sequence of the entire movie is when the clown shows
up at the police station and is kind of baiting
Officer Mooney and he goes into the cell and officun
and he hits him with the billy club in the
back of the head and he turns around. He's just like,
what the fuck you are I'm gonna Yeah. A sudden,

(01:26:04):
the other officer walks in the footprints all over the
ground over the walls everything, and then he turns Officer
Mooney into the venture of his puppet. That that that clown.
To me is that that's the scariest Pocket Schools part
of the entire movie. I love that part. That's for
me the best.

Speaker 4 (01:26:21):
I like when the officers on the radio and he's like.

Speaker 1 (01:26:25):
Fuck over, very good, very good. That's one of the
but yeah, one of the box. Also, the t rex
hand puppet shadow eating all of the boom Or idiots
is great.

Speaker 4 (01:26:39):
It's just cool that they did that.

Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
Like that.

Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
It's that and the pies. The pies get the pie
pie the cop and you're like.

Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Oh, what's happening that he just turns into a puddle
and then the guy thinks it's ice cream and he's like, oh,
ice cream Sunday, kind of like what.

Speaker 1 (01:26:53):
You're talking about? Yeah, yeah, I love like that is
a person. I love up because that is definitely one
of the best part of the entire Movie's underrated. It's
just what are you guys gonna do with those pies.
It's weird at the end though, because the pies.

Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
You know, I don't want to spoil anything, spoil it,
but yeah, you know when the pies fall on them
at the end, like what happened?

Speaker 1 (01:27:22):
Yeah, this is why we need the sequel. Yeah, well okay,
so I guess I'll end it with this. There's been
talk of a sequel. Do you guys feel that we
need a sequel? Do you want a sequel?

Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
Interesting? Exactly what are going to do it?

Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
Yeah? Yeah, if it's the same people directing it.

Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
It's not like this was like such a monumental, like
serious movie in the first place.

Speaker 3 (01:27:46):
Go for it.

Speaker 1 (01:27:47):
Well, it does seem like at least the creators of
these characters do own the rights to the characters. So
there is going to be a sequel made. It's going
to be made by the people that want to make
the sequel, which I think is a really good thing.
So I'm on board.

Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
Also, yeah, I think absolutely why why not? I mean,
I we'll say, example, a Beetle Juice, the new to
Beetle Juice. Beetle Juice came out the same year.

Speaker 1 (01:28:11):
I know, you really love Bee.

Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
And it it carries like it totally makes sense. It's
definitely not. It is a sequel.

Speaker 9 (01:28:24):
It is a sequel, right, it is a sequel, clear, Okay,
But there's all these other movies on now that are
like redoing originals but not really.

Speaker 4 (01:28:37):
There's a weird crossover things. Now I'm like, is this
a sequel?

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:28:41):
It's called the same thing, but it's not.

Speaker 1 (01:28:43):
But it's weird. But whatever.

Speaker 6 (01:28:44):
So Beetlejuice, Beetle Juice coming out now, if there was
another Killer Clowns coming out now, I would be pumped.

Speaker 9 (01:28:51):
I would be.

Speaker 1 (01:28:54):
I think it will be a lot more intense and scary.

Speaker 6 (01:28:57):
It should it should be, yeah, because like Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
was an amazing, huge gap sequel to the original.

Speaker 4 (01:29:07):
It was perfect.

Speaker 6 (01:29:08):
It was like, I mean, you kind of go in
with the lowest expectations because you're.

Speaker 1 (01:29:13):
Like, totally it's a sequel, so I don't know, it's some.

Speaker 4 (01:29:17):
Of the same actors but not all of them.

Speaker 6 (01:29:21):
I don't know how this is going to translate with
such a big Like you have no expectations and you're
just blown away because you're like, this is this This
was kind of awesome, This was kind of perfect.

Speaker 1 (01:29:32):
I can kind of actually see what you're saying with
that particular movie, because I feel like that's an interesting
template for this Harris. Just but yeah, The only thing
that this movie does not have going forward is that,
like so they have I guess when I write about it.
They have talked about bringing some of the original actors

(01:29:52):
from the first movie back for a sequel, but none
of them are famous, like in Beatle Juice, right, so
Michael Keith and then right. But I think a lot
of people that are in this movie were in this movie,
I should say, are not are no longer acting, so
they'd be brought out of retirement for it. I don't
even think that. But I mean, if you have, I

(01:30:13):
think you can just have a whole new crew in
the same town. I'd like to say in this movie,
if the.

Speaker 4 (01:30:20):
Like this loogan for anyone or just available, this.

Speaker 1 (01:30:23):
Really weird thing happened in this town, like you know
how forty years ago and there were these clowns and
there was this circus tent and all this ship and
all of a sudden, like it's just happening again. That
would be really cool. People are on.

Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Social media going live, right, yeah, yes, but no, because
that in that job.

Speaker 1 (01:30:42):
Oh god, yeah, I guess why I didn't see it.
I think you told me not probably did, Yeah, because
I love Texas, I know that's my favorite. That's up
there original. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:30:54):
They did that on a bus scene where where Leather
faces on a bus and everyone is just sitting here.

Speaker 1 (01:30:59):
With their no we're going to cancel you, bro, and
then he just he just hammers them all down. It's awesome.
I mean, you should watch it because it's so bad.
It's awful. It's like a good bad movie.

Speaker 6 (01:31:15):
I mean, if you're ready to sit here and be like,
I'm going to watch some trash for however long it is,
I mean an hour and a half maybe, but.

Speaker 4 (01:31:24):
Yeah, that's literally it's trash.

Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
It's awful.

Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
It's very pretty recently, feel very That's another thing that
I do like about Killer Clowns.

Speaker 1 (01:31:37):
It's not fucking three hours long. It's not even.

Speaker 4 (01:31:41):
You can attribute to bitching about it.

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:31:44):
That's literally why you're like, watch this so that you
can complain about it with us.

Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
If I remember correctly, you did actually have that movie
in your top. Wow, awful.

Speaker 4 (01:31:57):
I hated that. Like the minute you did that. I
said that scene from that movie.

Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
I was like, I hate that.

Speaker 6 (01:32:04):
I hate that so much. I think I just hate phones.
And then I'm going to take a video of you
and I'm recording. I hate that whole thing just.

Speaker 1 (01:32:13):
Makes do you see? Also, this is newsworthy, but do
you see what Robert Eggers said recently a couple of things.
So he's not only now after the success of No Sfaratu,
which that movie is fucking phenomenal. Absolutely to see it.
Yeah it wait until it's not twenty dollars too. Yeah,
all right, So he's now going to direct a thirteenth

(01:32:36):
century set werewolf movie. What but after that, he's going
to direct a sequel to Labyrinth. Oh seewie movie. I
suck with the Labyrinth heavy man like my ba. It's uh, yeah,
I know a couple of people that really like that

(01:32:57):
movie that I don't really care for those people. So
Dark Crystals, We're gonna Dark Crystals crystal way better. But no,
but it's it's Robert Eggers directing a big movie like that.
It'll be interesting to see him. I don't know. Robert
Eggers is very hit or miss for me. I think
he Also he also said that it would make him

(01:33:19):
physically ill to show a phone or a car in
a in a shot, which I'm like, I'm like, I
get like, I get you.

Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
What you like?

Speaker 7 (01:33:32):
I just remember, like I really liked The Witch, and
then I really didn't give a ship about The Lighthouse.

Speaker 1 (01:33:39):
I didn't. I didn't. The movie is absolute insanity. That
is the most Lovecraftian movie ever made. I didn't bother
with the north Man.

Speaker 7 (01:33:49):
And then now I'm like, all right, like knows, I'm
telling you all, I have a feeling I'm going to
enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
But I'm just like, all right, because is it really long?
It's like it's like two and a half hours?

Speaker 7 (01:34:04):
Well no, that yeah, because That's what I'm saying, Like,
is it I figured it's at least two it's two
and a half hours, it is?

Speaker 1 (01:34:11):
It flies by. I will tell you all right, I
saw I saw it in theaters and it flew by.
It's no God, no, no, no, nothing about it. Boy,
It's like the Lighthouse for me, I thought it was
that was very long. It was a very long movie. Okay,
fair enough, all right? Are we about done with Killer

(01:34:31):
Clowns about his space Fox? I think so? All right, sister,
Well in that case, I will say this has been
another episode of America's hometown horror. I really appreciate you
checking in with us and listening to us. Thank you

Your eyes peeled. Like the kid makes good fucking food, dude,
I make good food, dude. Oh yeah, I can't. Can't
confirm after eating his food several times, so Kat, because
we saw.

Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
Some actual like beef tongue and.

Speaker 1 (01:35:34):
Oh yeah, also vegetarian, so it's up. Yeah yeah four years. Yeah,
I don't eat any of that, but I was yeah,
but you know, you know, and I know what I'm doing.

Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
Yeah, I for thirty two years, dude, you know, like yeah,
people get a little weird about that.

Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
They're like what, and I'm like, yeah, I don't think
but if.

Speaker 4 (01:35:51):
You preface that would like be like I yeah, but
then you're like, I know what it tastes.

Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
I didn't come out of the womb of vegetarians. You did,
you you had a homecome. I never won.

Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
No, No, we got me and Ryan at the Tasty.
We got to the finals and we lost to our
old mentor, Steve Coe. But hey, you know Steve, it's
it happens.

Speaker 1 (01:36:15):
It happens. But yeah, maybe they'll bring that back. Who
knows cut that up either way. What I'll say, this
guy's a phenomenal chef. His food's absolutely phenomenal. There is
a there is a specific reason that I did take
Cat to Chicu for our anniversary dinner.

Speaker 4 (01:36:36):
And you call it.

Speaker 1 (01:36:37):
I don't know if that's.

Speaker 4 (01:36:39):
I think it's just more fun than hot pot.

Speaker 1 (01:36:42):
Like yo, let's go p like words word twice. That
will work. That will work.

Speaker 4 (01:36:50):
It's way better. It's almost like a tongue, I.

Speaker 1 (01:36:56):
Mean, not really, rather like that's fine too. All right,
