YOU, yes YOU are alive and hopefully well for the historic & legendary 200th Episode of An Honorable Mention as Jeff & Shane board the Honorable Plane of Honor and head to Tokyo for The Tokyo Summit, which was also Ring of Honor’s 200th Show. DDT, NJPW, Kensuke Office, Pro Wrestling NOAH, & Ring of Honor agreed to a Summit, in Tokyo in September of 2008.
We talk show origins, The FABULOUS FORUM, Hagadorn getting no trip to Japan for his birthday, and a lineup with a little something from every flavor of the wrestling pallet. This show comes to you from Differ Ariake and features everything from a young Tetsuya Naito to the legendary KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji on opposing teams with Kota Ibushi & Katsuhiko Nakajima as their partners! Kensuke Sasaki battling Roderick Strong, an ROH World Title Match with Jimmy Jacobs challenging Nigel McGuinness and the match that gets lost in the sands of greatness that is Bryan Danielson’s career as Dragon challenges GHC Junior Champ, Pro Wrestling NOAH staple Yoshinobu Kanemaru. This show has a something for everyone!
Special thanks to Jeff’s Mom for helping curate this idea back in the days where there was only one wrestling podcast.
It’s The Tokyo Summit on this week’s edition of An Honorable Mention, brought to you be Patreon.com/AnHonorablePod, and presented on The Creative Control Network of podcasts!!

This is an Honorable Mention with JeffSchwartz and Shane Hagedorn, part of the
Crani Control networking podcast. It's Tuesday, and you know what that means?
Happy two for Tuesday? In thiscase, I guess two hundred for Tuesday?
And what's the chapter of an HonorableMention? The Essential Ring of Honor

(00:22):
retrospective podcast covering the most successful independentwrestling promotion of this generation. I'm your
host, Jeff Schwartz. I'm delightedto be here, and alongside me is
my co host, our expert analyst, the head of logistics, all elite
wrestling content provider and operation specialist, the Mayor of Merchandise, the warrior of

(00:42):
the way Back Machine, King ofCage Match, and the author of the
upcoming book Code of Honor. Ringof Honor alumni Shane Hagenhorn Loos coming because
you're a heel, say, Kingof Cage Match, as I'm literally looking
on Cage Match right now and constructingthe best of best in the world pole

(01:07):
as we talk. Yes, yes, the best in the World pool will
be coming in several weeks after wefinally get the pole's gonna go up and
like ten minutes from when we're recording. But when you hear this, people,
the pole will already be up togo vote. I'll be I'll be
in California or Vegas. When youhear this, the pole will be on

(01:27):
Twitter. Yeah, hey, isgonna be at the Fabulous Forum in Los
Angeles. Yeah, this bad boyis gonna go take a Laker mark pictures.
I already I got permission. Ihad this conversation with a Laker fan
in our locker room. Hey,I grew up a bad boy living in

(01:49):
Michigan. Is it cool to takeshowtime pictures? I was given them.
The answer should be hell yes.First of all, and they don't even
sponsor this show. But John cRiley as Jerry buss on Winning Time is
among the best shows HBO has everdone. I love it, still need

(02:12):
to watch, and it's actually likeI know, the running joke has been
that I against the Lakers, andthen I have declared them the twenty twenty
two NBA champions for missing the playoffswith the great Lebron James and Anthony Davis
and what's left of Russell Westbrook andI don't even know anybody else on the
team, not that it matters butoh Carminal Anthony, his ghost is still

(02:38):
there. But I just think it'ssuch a cool building. And after watching
the HBO show, I'm very veryjealous. So you know, I don't
get jealous about buildings necessarily. I'mexcited about that, you know me,

(02:58):
I don't get excited for billings. No, I'm excited for this one.
This is this is one that I'mreally bummed not to be at. Um
maybe next time, Um, I'llget out there. But this is uh
not about the Fabulous Forum. Uh, this is episode number two hundred for

(03:22):
us and I when I was typingout the format, so I have kind
of like a basic you know formatthat I copy and paste and then insert
pertinent stuff every week. And whenI typed it two instead of a one
for the episode number, I kindof got a little emotional. Um,

(03:44):
you know there there is a prettyinteresting origin story to this podcast. UM.
I don't know. Initial thoughts onepisode two hundred, some favorite memories,
maybe a favorite episode. I don'tknow if I have a favorite episode

(04:05):
off the top of my head.Eight hours of Samoa Joe, hours of
Samoa Joe before we had eat anyidea to do this, probably any rational
fashion, or in our first twoepisodes and we were recording like forty five
minutes and then have to take abreak for whatever child related reasons I'm sure

(04:27):
on my end, and then fourrecord another hour and then by the time
we were down to realize, fuck, we have a four hour show,
as we recorded it in five parts. Yeah, those were, you know,
the the late night, one o'clockin the morning recordings, or the
fun stuff of when Nathan was atiny little one, and recording around that

(04:51):
nap schedule, my bartending schedule. You're I don't know, job chaos.
Yeah. Yeah, I mean I'velost both my grandparents, my grams and
Pops since we started this. Iknow the one I think when my grandmother
died, we did this show andI was plastered on a bottle of wine.

(05:16):
Yeah, because I could not handlethings I didn't know how to process
at all. The murder of CarnalSledge, my dear friend. All that
was all within the span of likefour months. So none of those are
part of my favorite memories. ButI will say like reconnecting with so many

(05:41):
people has been like kind of thehighlight for me for this show. Just
I guess kind of keeping this historyalive and you know, recognizing and respecting
it for what it was and whatit still is, but also realizing introspectively

(06:09):
my behavior is a ring of honor. Person in the early days may have
not been the most mature or handledthe best. So I don't really have
like a favorite episode. Usually myfavorite episode is the next episode, on
and on and on. But Imean, the origin story of this show

(06:34):
is my mom. Of all peoplewho hates wrestling, like for those that
they don't know, my mom isvery much, you know, the hardest
worker I know for sure. Butshe introduced me to Howard Stern when I

(06:55):
was a child and thinking about seventhgrade, so weird, I mean,
to school. She just had himon. Yeah, and my mom goes,
this is disgusting. I can't believeyou're listening to this. Isn't there
like a wrestling show you can listento? And so well, there's like
one wrestling podcast that that comes out. It comes out on Fridays. So

(07:16):
I already listened to the last week'sepisode. And this is right before Tony
and Conrad started. At the pointwhen we started, he was only Conrad
only had one podcast. He hadshow, had one show when we started
doing this, so you know, like, yeah, I mean think about
Conrad is On doing a podcast sevendays a week. And my mom was

(07:43):
like, yeah, you should startyour own podcast. And I was like,
I don't know. I was goingto the Duke Miami game that night,
and which Duke one as they shouldthanks to the great Gary Trent,
and it just, um, Idon't know, the thought kind of festered.
I talked to my dad about it, who was a newscaster in the

(08:03):
early eighties, and he was like, I have a microphone I'll just give
you. So you know, mymom is the one that gets credit first
saying, oh, why don't youtalk about that Ring of honor quote unquote
that ring of honor. It's notcalled the Ring of honor, the Ring
of honor or, the row rowof Honor. That was another a lesson.

(08:35):
You just made me think of howa ridiculate, a more ridiculous cretics
he would have made him change hisname to Raymond Row. Yeah, yeah,
they would have. Uh. Imean, it's just there's an a
wrestler name that I'm surprised your cardnever came out with a Row bot.

(08:56):
I mean they did, CP Monkand money. Yeah, I'm not a
robot. Robot that would have beengood. I get to ask Bryce about
that this week to what he says. Which yesterday was the twentieth anniversary of
Chakara Too So Crazy. U jigSaw put up some great photos. But

(09:18):
we have so many people that weneed to thank, you know, for
helping us get to this point,to two hundred shows. Obviously, you
know, thanks to my mom forthe idea, the microphone, to my
dad. That microphone I think lastedabout ten episodes. But nevertheless, we

(09:39):
got to thank Zach Johnson for makingus sound so good every week, Joe
Finie for hosting us as part ofthe Creative Control Network, all of our
patrons that are over Patreon dot comback slash an Honorable Pod, the regular
listeners to get the show every Tuesdayand don't get any of the cool bonus

(10:00):
stuff that they could get if theysigned up at Patreon dot com back slash
an Honorable Pod, and um,you know from for me personally, partner,
I gotta thank you for tag alongfor two hundred episodes. I don't
think I could could ask for abetter partner. We've had some substitute partners

(10:22):
Uh, Sugarfoot tagged in for anepisode, so a couple episodes. Actually,
he's been on Grizzly And you dida show together when my grandfather passed
and you had some so you didyou did several with our you know,

(10:45):
friends and associates. Yeah, fans, Tree and Bobo and Zach Jacob Cohen
and there'll be more of those downthe road. Um, hopefully do some
some more interviews. We've had Jigsawand Jimmy Rave May rest in peace.
Um, Monster Monster Mac Jacob,Jim Jacob's Dave Lagana. Um, we

(11:13):
need to get a female guest, how David Kyle, David Yeah, Ernie
Yeah, Alredy Arnie Like, yeah, we've had a good assortment. It's
been a good group and it's beena lot of fun on this journey.
So if you have anybody else youwould like to thank, uh, go

(11:35):
ahead. Um, I'm wonderful.I sorry, I just thought of my
favorite episode, our Sweetey tribute.Yeah, yeah, that's gotta be the
best one we've done. Um,and we had Bryce and Eddie and OC
and Chuck Taylor and uh, somany people will help contribute for that.

(11:56):
I know I'm missing people, butyeah, just they're so so many people
helped make that just emotionally powerful tome. Yeah. Yeah, and it's
hard to think of that as likethe favorite episode, but because it was
such a just an awful topic tohave to talk about, because we should

(12:20):
be seeing him on television every Wednesday, great Friday. Just random coincidence.
I opened up my Twitter to makesure the poll went through, and the
first thing I see as a tweetfrom our our friend Peter Melnick that just
says, Hey, remember Bluetooth earpieces. As we're talking about Alex and I'm

(12:41):
wearing a shirt right now. Heis everywhere. He's everywhere. I've got
his blue one of his bluetooths inmy car. It's it's there with his
business card. He's with me atall times on the road, watching over
me. And yeah, I mean, we've we've lost so many people during

(13:03):
the course of this show. Todayis actually the one year anniversary of my
uncle Marvin's passing. Um, mygrandfather's second oldest brother but the oldest of
the Schwartz boys born in the States. And yeah, I mean, it's
just it's crazy. We've gone throughso much, um doing this show in

(13:26):
two hundred episodes, it's it's prettyincredible. So anybody else to send thank
yous to? Just anybody? Iguess I have just everybody who is who
is uh who was supported, listenedand giving us feedback and uh yeah,

(13:46):
so thank you all. Also Mary, we should thank Mary. Yeah,
I definitely should thank my wife fortolerating our bullshit at all hours of the
day and night, depending on ourdaping schedules. I kept throwing you.
Anybody else, anybody else bueller yeah? Mary? Oh yeah, my wife?

(14:09):
Yeah, yeah, Please thank youRodney m we uh. We've had

All right, let's dive into itnumber two hundred for us and bring of
honor. I think it's a worthyand honorable mention. It is September fourteen,

(17:12):
two thousand and eight. We arein Tokyo, Japan at differ Ariacky
for the Tokyo Summit. Probably presentedby Patreon dot com Backslash an Honorable pot.
Yeah, two hundred shows is it'skind of like us. You know,

(17:33):
it's two hundred ish in reality becauseyou know, Frontiers of Honor,
the Jersey Lpro Collision Cores Show,Door Dies, you know there the this
is two hundredth show of the OfficialCannon. I suppose much like you know,
I was compared to UFC. Youknow, the fight might be might

(17:56):
might be UFC two hundred, butthere's been three hundred and fifty seven shows.
It's uh. I imagine like aroundthis time, you know, getting
to two hundred. Maybe it's notthe milestone. I'm thinking it would be
like this something that was celebrated. No, no, I think it.

(18:18):
Uh. I think it was kindof one of those things that it was
just like, oh, hey,did you realize this is our two hundredth
show. It wasn't like Gold orthe one hundredth show, where it was
you know, very aware that itwas the fiftieth show or the one hundredth
show. I recall this kind ofbeing more like, oh hey, this
just so happens to be our twohundredth show. Interesting. Yeah, um,

(18:45):
I always think back to like onthese round the big round numbers.
I remember I wa mid South therethree hundred show was called the three hundredth
show, and it was supposed tobe Ian Roton's retirement show the next night,
and then it ended up just beingcalled three zero one, and then

(19:12):
Ian retired for five minutes and thencame back. But it's always an amusing
story to remember when we get intothese round numbered shows. But you know,
obviously r waights going over to Japana second time is important in the
grand scheme of things, but thisis one that particularly you were not fond

(19:34):
of because you didn't get to gofor your birthday. No, it's bullshit.
It was bullshit. But you know, my birthday September thirteenth, the
day before the show, and somebodyhad to stay behind in the office and

(19:55):
and you know, make sure y'allgot your DVDs and your T shirt.
And now I'm curious, what's onthe three hundred show by demand itself,
so I'm actually looking at it.Somebody had to be bigbody had to be
there to mail at all your shit. So yep, Harley Race was a
keeper of a k win a cagematch involving Ian Rotten and Bullpain Okay,

(20:18):
Jerry Hero, Nate Webb and NickMondo an interesting, interesting show, Um,
shark Boy and Mitch Ryder okay,oh boy? Uh yeah, man,
So somebody had to stay behind andyou know, mail out stuff.
I had to be you know, the guy whose birthday was who literally asked

(20:42):
I had to be able to goto this and like nope, So now
I didn't get to go to thisor the previous Japan show or the UK
shows because somebody had to stay behindand make sure you guys, ungrateful message
board Fox got your T shirts andyour DVDs on time. Ungrateful, he

(21:11):
is still a heel. He hasnot given up. He has not come
you to realize. Call yes, calling you ungrateful as you as you purchased
things that made sure I had employmentfor a decade. Yes, and and
in full circle brought you back, brought me back. Yes. Yeah,

(21:33):
So this was not I was madabout this weekend in particular. Honestly,
I don't blame you, because II'm not like somebody that wants to travel
the whole world, you know,I just I don't know. There's nothing

(21:53):
that really sounds super exciting to meabout like going to Greece and seeing the
policy that I've seen or whatever, the big building thing is there. Yeah,
you see it on Google and it'slike, oh, all right,
looks cool. Seeing in person goingto really change my opinion on it.

(22:14):
I don't know. So, youknow, Japan is like the one far
destination that I would be curious togo. And I would say the wrestling
component is probably a large part ofit. The sneakers component also a large
part of it. You'd have topack like three extra bags just for shoes

(22:37):
if yeah, in your case,Yeah, But I just I don't know.
There's always been something about Japan thatintrigued me visually, like they were
a futuristic society. I guess kindof you know, based on what I
would see in movies appealed to me. And this show has this kind of

(23:02):
like a DVD cover that kind oflooks futuristic. Oh you want to talk
about that DVD cover? Did youtake a close look at it? Yeah,
it's the poster slammed in the middle, but it's it's it's the actual
poster. Like we took a pictureof a poster, you can see the
crease lines from how the poster wasfolded instead of just taking the fucking gift

(23:26):
or jabeg or whatever it was andbeing like, here, sal use this
image. No, it's like wetook a picture of the poster and put
it on the front of a DVD. You can see the crease lines.
So for those that are not followingon my Facebook, I'm presently redoing my
basement and I guess, you know, I have to have a little bit

(23:52):
of special help doing it. Andthis poster I actually found framed in my
basement and I go, oh,there's Tokyo Summit poster that we're doing for
the podcast this week. And uh, my friend that was with me,
she uh, she just looked atme like the fuck are you talking about

(24:18):
and said, the show is calledthe Tokyo Summit. That's the poster that
was sold so that they could notcome back completely broke. Yeah. But
the the imagery on the side, like over by the the font like that
looks futuristic. Um, it's uh, it's the one place in the outside

(24:42):
world that I would like to goat some point. It's it's it's a
font that's like how do I makeEnglish look like kanji? Yeah, that
that is what this font is.Um, and the fucking image has creases.
That's soap leak, it's so bushI don't know. Well, we're

(25:04):
not done with bush League stuff yet, not yet, because we do have
to talk about the August twenty ninevideo wire. It doesn't exist, not
in a public space. In apublic space, it only exists if you
have this DVD or if you area part of the twelve dollars and up

(25:27):
tier on Picture on dot com backslash an old pod you can see this
historically disgusting, horribly timed video wirethat we will be discussing today here on
episode two hundred, the Tokyo Summit. Now there's a new ROH videos dot

(25:48):
com intro that starts, so it'snice this finally got updated. Um.
But then we go from the introto something I actually did not watch in
full because I was so disgusted. The Briscoes are here, they have guns,

(26:11):
they have beer, they start talkingage of the Fall, and then
they start shooting guns, and Isaid, fuck this, I don't know.
So if you want to elaborate onthis nonsense, go ahead. I
am very much anti gun, antiSecond Amendment. So take your guns,

(26:33):
shot them up your ass. Thisuh let's just suffice to say this video
wire did not last long. Wepulled it pretty quickly, and I have
a vague recollection that its existence mayhave cost us something. Yeah, he

(26:57):
had a figure. We're just shotI of Gabe being fired. We're not
too far removed from ht NET beingannounced. Um uh it um, yeah,
I feel like this was you knowthat this may have actually screwed us
over in some way, shape orform. And I'm just I have a

(27:18):
vague recollection of it. Not nota specifical like, oh, we had
a deal worked out with so andso, and then this video wire aired
and no, nothing that's specific, just like this vague recollection of, Um,
this hurting something that yeah, likesid or was sid and carry were

(27:38):
trying to some sort of deal theywere trying to figure out. It was
just very It was very Um itis literally just the the Brisco's cutting a
probe on the edge of the fallas they shoot guns at um, watermelons

(28:00):
and other things. Well while yeah, and still so yeah, it's nice
to say it. Um, you'renot going to find this video wire online.
Um and yeah, pulled pulled veryquickly, so I which kind of

(28:22):
shocks me that it made it tothis DVD and to Battle of the Best
DVD, the show that was thenight before this. Um. So it's
very surprising to me that there it'son the DVDs, considering how quickly it
feels like we took it offline. But here it is. Yep, Um,

(28:45):
don't worry, there's more brisk goes. Later we see Claudio Castanoli eliminated
by Brian Danielson and then he doesa great heel turn with a big boot
to the face on Danielson. Thecrowd flips their ship. Boo Claudio.
Um, he gets a chair,he attacks Brian with the chair, and

(29:08):
then Sugar Dad, Alex Payne andthe rest of bring them on our student
security make their way out and theyseparate the two, saving Danielsson from pure
doom, not until Claudio throws grizzgut wrenches the ship out of Grizzly.
Yeah, it's amazing to see Claudiowith some hair. It's still kind of

(29:37):
like one of those you're so usedto him just being bald. Yeah,
like, oh there he has hair. Look at that. It's it's a
the existence of hair and people. Was that a top free of conversation on
Renee Picat's like the last podcast withSam Roberts and they said they conclude was,

(30:00):
uh, you know how you meetpeople, that's kind of how they
it sticks in their head. Likethey're discussing specifically meeting Triple H and whether
he had hair when they met himor not. So we're Sam Roberts.
It was like the long hair, you know, very very well conditioned locks,

(30:21):
name meeting him with the more shaven, you know, closer cropped hair
and which version sticks in your head. You know, We've talked about it
with bj with Claudio, you knowBryce Bryce head hair when I'm at him
for the first time. Yeah,Todd Sinclair is another one. Yeah,

(30:51):
No, Daniels did not have hairwhen I met him for the first time.
Oh, Chris didn't have a hair. Not really, it's the start
of ring of honor. Seeing picturesof like people who you met with hair
without hair, like Pierce when Ifirst met him, or Carrie or Carry.

(31:11):
It would be another example. Seeingpictures of Carry with hair throws me
for a loop. But yeah,Pierce had had the expoc bingg where he
covered up with the bandana several yearsI mean indies when he was still living
in the Midwest. M But wethen go to the new at rowa Dressling

(31:37):
dot com commercial. You can getBedlam in Beantown, which is actually called
Bedlam in the Boston area. AndInjustice you can also think that one actually
took place in Boston. It wouldactually be in the center of the Boston
area. Yeah. Injustice and TagWar two thousand and eight also available for

(32:01):
you to purchase. Then we goback to the Briscoes and more Guns,
and I said, nope, Ithink this is the part where they just
punched each other and then I turnedit off. I don't remember. Yeah,

(32:21):
I mean, there's not much moreto say. We've discussed the contents
of what they provided for the videowire. Who who actually filmed this?
Do you know the video wires? At this point it probably would have been
Gabe himself. Gabe went down tothe Briscoe farm. Oh, the Briscoes.
I don't know. They might haveI mean, that's small possibility where

(32:45):
they filmed it themselves and nailed itto us. Camera looked nice, I
mean, the quality of the footagelooked nice. It wasn't like a two
thousand and eight cell phone video oranything. Yeah, New Horizons coming to
I pay per view very soon,so I think that was a July pay

(33:09):
per view, So maybe it wasactually fairly close to this show. Necro
Butcher, he gets whacked by AustinAis in a chair in the three Way
with Jimmy Jacobs and Aries says theEddie Guerrero spot. Necro turns around.
He sees it's Jimmy with the chairand they kind of meander around and brawl.

(33:32):
This looked like that was a goodidea on paper, and there was
just too much standing around for itto really like. I think they wanted
the fans to soak in the turn, but it felt like it was too
long for me. I don't remember, like, I don't remember it day

(33:57):
of what it was. It justit was like maybe ten or fifteen seconds
too long of them just standing aroundwith never like looking confused. What to
do. I beat up Jimmy Jakes. He was deciding what to do that

(34:19):
Austin Ais is sleeping over there. What do I do? I don't know.
Let me ask the people, butI'm in the age of the Fall.
I can't ask the people. I'magainst it is he So that was
the end of the video wire.Um, there's a ten minute long Jimmy

(34:39):
Jacobs promo, which I thought thiswas really good. It was nine and
a half minutes, um, butit was. It was very well executed
and spoken. He talked about howthis is the one year anniversary of Age

(35:05):
of the Fall, that the Ageof the Fall mission and the revolution begins
as they go to Japan to defendthe tag titles and then challenge for the
world title, and we all knowtitles equal power. So you know,
you're we're seeing more of Jimmy Jacobsin the main event, which, as

(35:28):
we know, we referenced it onGabe's Book of Secrets. Gabe was tired
of putting Jimmy Jacobs in the mainevent and realize that maybe it had been
a little too much. Yes,let's have him main event this show.
Yeah. Now, the prom wasfine, It's just long because he covers

(35:52):
like everything, everything, but thehey, let's talk about the entire month
of September right now. Yeah.Um, I did pop because for Project
one sixty one, like that wassix one, nobody called it one sixty

(36:16):
one on at six one. Here'swhy I refer to it as one sixty
one because really what it says Projectone sixty one. Well, no that,
and so when I go to theCleveland Airport to fly out for that
show, the exit that you taketo get to the road that the airport's

(36:38):
on, Snow Road, is Exitone sixty one. Gotcha. So every
time I hear Project one sixty one, which is really Project one sixty one,
I think of the exit and Ithink of that trip. So I
there was just so much to coverbecause it's basically a history of the age

(37:01):
of the Fall. It's a historyof the age of the Fall, but
that it's also okay, well, now we got to talk about both japan
shows. We need to talk aboutthe pay per view that's Pink Film,
and then we get back and weneed to talk about the show at the
arena. Like there's four things tobe tries to dump into one ten minute
promo, so you know, well, it's fine, yeah, I mean

(37:23):
for a bonus promo whatever, like, yeah, it's it's content filler on
a a relatively short show. It'snot. Yeah, it is a three
hour It is a three hour timelinebecause it's basically complete entrances and exits and

(37:45):
a ten minute which we'll get toBrian Danielson UM media scrum for lack of
basically, so there's also a bonusdark match it's on this this year,
which features some very interesting things, and I learned some stuff about a couple

(38:07):
of these competitors here. Um,So, first of all, we have
this dark match. This is inthe bonus features on the DVD. It
is Team No Limit of somebody calledTetsuya Nito you may have heard of him
and his partner Yuji Ro who youmay have heard of as Yujiro Takahashi,

(38:32):
and they're gonna take on the teamof Genba Hiriya Nagi and for a venerable
red ass Kataro Suzuki, And Ifeel like, if your last name is
Suzuki, you have to be areal just shooter boy like you gotta have

(38:54):
a mean streak here, Usuki,do you know anybody named Suzuki that isn't
just like not personally now. Ihave no idea if there's a relation between
Qataro and Manoro. I don't thinkthere is. But there's no commentary on

(39:17):
this match. The lights are up, everybody's walking in, and I learned
that Nito and Ugero were in DNAyep for a cup of coffee. Yeah,
so that was one of those. And they're obviously representing New Japan here,

(39:44):
which is interesting. But then Ijust went TNA, huh the more
you know, Okada was there,Tanahashi was there. How it managed to
do nothing with these people and theywere there as part of the World X

(40:05):
Cup. Is that what it was? I didn't look specifically, I just
kind of reading around them on theinternet. I'm just I'm trying to recollect
off top of if that's what itwas, I'd have to look. I
may look in a second, butthat's what I remember. That's what I
was thinking. Um. Obviously, like and we know Quitaro Suzuki from Noah

(40:28):
and he's been around for ages. He's you know, kind of like the
the solid hand in the junior division. Um. You know, I had
a team with Ricky Marvin for awhile. Um, but I'm not super
familiar with Harry and Agi. Umyeah, that's just ask pain about him.

(40:57):
I will. It was not theNo Limit X Cup. It was
just random fucking matches in two thousandand nine, including US. I do
remember this Steve, he was inthe cage match at Lockdown through it with
the machine guns in Lax. Yeah, I do remember that because I actually
watched that on Impact sixty or whateverit was they anymore, but yeah,

(41:25):
they did, like a one ofthe specials might have been I'll kill a
cage match specials or whatever, andI remember watching that Machine Guns Lax and
Team No Limit. Well, theyhave a solid dark match. Obviously,
there's nothing really that they're gonna dothat, um makes this like a must

(41:47):
see or anything. But it's coolto see like early NIGHTO and you Jero
still just about the same, andyou get to see some nice like peel
work, you know. The attackat the start was nice. Um.
And it's one of those things whereit's like, you could have this is

(42:07):
a kind of match that could haveused commentary to explain to the uh,
the audience, you know, theDVD product buying audience of what the fuck
was going on here and who thesepeople were. Um, but it's a
nice little you know, excuse metrying to a nice little bonus. Yeah,

(42:30):
I mean, and even like downto the finisher, you could clearly
see who is being showcased here.Uh. Nujuro hits a really nice spinebuster.
U Suzuki grabs him and launches himinto the crowd. Uh Nito Nujuro,
then uh puts Suzuki out of thebuilding and Team No Limit have the

(42:57):
two to one advantage. NATO heads. It's a beautiful corkscrew moon Salt and
pins here and Nagium at eleven minutestwenty seven seconds. I don't know,
Like, to me, Nito wasthe star of this match. You could
see there was something there and veryclearly we weren't wrong. Yes, he

(43:24):
he actually took off his T shirtfor this match. Yeah, yeah,
I think that's the gauge nowadays ofNaito's investment in a match, if he
takes off his shirt forward. That'sactually a fair point. I never really
thought about that. I'm trying tothink. I watched him in Okada from

(43:50):
a bigger show. It was thefinals of the New Japan Cup. I
think he did have his T shirtoff. I can just go watch one
of the six man eight man tagsand yeah, yeah, I don't care.
But dude, looking at this theimpact thing here, I'm like going

(44:10):
down this lane of like, Idon't remember this ship, I don't remember
lethal consequences. They've got Xavier Woodsand Jay Legal that's right, or that
Davari was named Abdul Bashir. Iremember that? Or try do you remember
Trevor Murdoch's name? Uh, Itry to throw a holiday. Oh wow,

(44:37):
I would have never gotten that one. Not at all, good Lord,
not at all. That's gotta bea Russo thing. Or that Naido
and your wrestled Kevin Nash and ahandicapped match. They went two minutes.

(44:59):
You look like that's the thing.I'm looking at all these matches like,
oh, that sounds cool. Oh, the machine guns and no Limit got
four minutes. That sounds cool, excepting at four minutes, Bro, nobody
wants to see these guys for fourminutes. I meant the three way steel

(45:20):
cage match got all of twelve, got twelve on pay per views, so
that's pretty good. Anyway, Oddto the main show, Well, the
main show it is is uh,it's starting out. We see the fans
entering in different Ariaki. Uh.They get to walk right by the Noah
Bus, which is pretty cool.Um. And I would assume this would

(45:42):
just be considered the Japanese version ofthe Lex Express, sure or the Nightmare
Express or Big Show Bus. Youknow, it's on the drive to Body
Slam Moreshila, Yes, yes, exactly. Um. Then, speaking of
Morishima, we go to Sweet andSour Larry Sweeney and Davy Richards and their

(46:07):
backstage, and boy, they pissedoff about last night. Sweeney is so
furious with the Briscoes. They've ofcourse turned down his offer to join Sweet
and Sour inc. And thus hisacquaintance with Ghoshia Zaki pays off, as

(46:28):
he has recruited to Keshi Morishima, the former Ring of Honor world champion,
to team with Davy Richards to takeon the Briscoes later this evening. Sweeney
offering the brisco is a spot thingsI did not remember ever happening. I
actually remembered it, and I wantto say it was in like that maybe

(46:55):
the Tag Wars show. No,it was the night before it was,
That's why it wasn't the night beforethis. But I feel like it had
been an ongoing thing. No,no, no, not not at all.
It is literally just like I thinkit was just something done for this
weekend here huh so at Battle ofthe Best, I guess then just yeah,

(47:25):
I thought there was more to itthan that. Maybe I'm wrong.
I don't think it. I don'tthink it was something of substance. I
think it was just a through linefor the weekend of In these two shows,
well we go from from the announcementof Moreshima and Richards versus the Briscoes,
later the Bobby Cruise. He's inthe ring and he announces that tonight

(47:49):
working together, there are five wrestlingpromotions. Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling,
Noah DDT, the Kent's k Office, and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
He gets into hyping up the mainevent match and that's the Ring of Hounter
World Title Nigel and Jimmy Jacobs, when Austin Aris interrupts and he wants a

(48:10):
fight with Tyler Black. Right now, real quick, you notice what name
is missing from that list? Yes, that'll be dragon Gate. And did
you do it? I suggested,And look at the lineup for Battle of
the Best yep. And what wasit all? Well, it was all
over that show dragon Gate exactly politicsof Japanese wrestling right here. And you

(48:37):
go look at the two japan showsfrom the previous year and there is both
dragon Gate and Noah talent on theshow. There is you know, some
of our other events we did Borshemaversus Shingo for the Ring of Honor title,
you know, in America, inAmerica. But by this weekend,

(48:59):
I think it's very evident by thehard delineation of no dragon Gate Town on
this show and no anyone else onthat all the best that there was no
working together this time around. Yeah. Um, without knowing like the specifics
of the politics involved, it's justI imagine it's kind of like, you

(49:23):
know, the Forbidden Door thing, where you know, oh, so and
so is gonna you know, comeinto aw but you know, now it's
like there's but nobody from Ring ofHonor was coming to a w until Tony
saved the day and then that openedup their access. It felt like very

(49:50):
much dragon Gate was not willing togo walk through the pro Wrestling Noah Forbidden
Door and progresling Noah had said, yeah, we're gonna stay on our side
of the door. Yeah. It'sone of those things I like to my
recollection that was never it was morecordial, you know, a relationship.

(50:10):
Uh. But yeah, by thispoint, obviously there was not any two
very distinct shows, you know, which to me I think is ideal,
um in the long run, whereyou have two very different shows in Japan.

(50:32):
But yeah, when I think, well, that's why I think made
it nice with this show with whatprobably said, I guess the new he
says, New Japan. I meanwe're being generous. One team, it's
what one team from a dark matchwas from New Japan. But still it's
you know, it's it's it wasa cool thing, and I don't think,

(50:52):
yeah that it's very cool that thatthat that's what happened, especially when
you get to the you know thatthat tag match. Um yeah, the
mid the midway of the show, the tag match, that's what it's really
noticeable. Yep. Um so Arisis in the ring. He wants Tyler

(51:13):
Black, he wants to fight. And I know, like I've made fun
of Austinaries and deservedly so on thisshow in the past, and I'm not
a huge Tyler Black slash seth Rollinsfan in the ring or from a personality
standpoint, uh you know, characterpersonality. I thought this was like super

(51:38):
disappointing, and it just adds tothe list of super disappointing matches that they
had together. I don't I don'tthink they had any chemistry. And that's
not to take away from the individualperformers here. It's just they were on

(51:59):
two different pages. I think,Um, I'm just trying to think,
like I just you know, offthe We've watched a couple of the matches,

(52:19):
you know, in doing this,we watched the sixty minute draw.
We watched the sixty minute draw inthe snow. Yeah, I graduated college.
I feel like their first time everhaving a singles match funck was that
well the Age of Insanity as well. Yeah, but I feel like their

(52:45):
first match was like a good showing, and I feel like the title change
when Tyler finally beat him was agood showing. But yeah, it's it's
definitely a feeling of like they're wantingmore, or that they both have more

(53:09):
in them. Yeah, and it'salmost like they're they just couldn't meet in
the middle to make the make thesandwich, I guess, you know,
like Har's wanted you know, wherewere vegans put on a sandwich? And

(53:30):
Tyler was like, give me aburger. M h, I don't know.
Uh. This was a prime exampleof me just not being able to
get into a match. And evenit had it had a more brawl type
element, and even that felt wonky. Yeah, it's just hey, yeah,

(54:00):
there's something that just doesn't click yeahwith with them in this one.
Uh. And and I think andI think it's because a part of me
that feels this is something that kindof permeates the whole card is that.
And this might be playing to theidea that it is a DVD product,

(54:22):
that there is a continuing story,um, going across to all these shows,
but it feels there's a I thinka disconnect between in the matches that
are playing off of the ongoing storiesof bringing them honor and the matches that

(54:44):
are just here's the fucking match,go out there and like do cool shit,
uh and entertaining stuff. Um.I feel like there's a disconnect too
with the audience unmatches like this themain events even U there's just a disconnect
between the fans and because it's notthe usual audience, you know, this

(55:07):
is the reactions yeah yeah. Um. Definitely the one thing too with Tyler
in this match, he's not doingthe flashy stuff that he is known for
at this point. Um, he'sdoing a lot more like slow plotting stomps

(55:28):
and choke and chokes and kicks andum he's a hero. Yeah. I
mean, it's it's not that flashshe Tyler Black that we we yet and
eventually aries is more kind of justno, he's not entering Age of the

(55:50):
Fall, but he's entering Age ofthe Fall adjacent. He's in the Age
of the Fall area. I don'tknow, but I mean, yeah,
as we're heading towards the end ofthe year and there's in whatever the fuck
was going on, you know, where Gabe was headed versus where Adam would
take it, like, um,but I think there's a there is an

(56:12):
intensity to their work and what theydo, Like in their brawling. You
know, it's not the walk andtalk fight, you know that it's just
kind of tedious and boring. Likethere there there is intensity to what they
do, like there is that thatthat conveying that genuine feeling of dislike for
each other. And I would saythat like, as this match wraps up,

(56:39):
the finish was actually pretty cool too, um, but I don't think
it. I think it would havegotten a greater reaction somewhere else. Well.
I think that's like I said, that's uh, just take what you
that statement and blanket it over somuch out if it would have been you

(57:01):
know, the hammer, the ManhattanCenter or Frontier Field House or you know
the Case Gym or Mount Government CountyFairgommery County Fair Round. That's what I
was going with. Next it wouldhave been. It would have been a
very different vendor. You need togo check it out because I was told
the rebuilding I have that's a fourhour drive. I don't care. Do

(57:24):
it for the do it for thepeople, Yes, the people? All
right, maybe one day in thenext couple of weeks I had an excuse
to drive out that way, belike, I'm gonna anybody, We're gonna
riding for toys there you go,anybody want to ride and dating with me?
No, I just want to takea picture of a parking lot.

(57:46):
Yeah. Uh well, I don'tthink people realize we'll get some Shatocks Pizza.
Shout out to Shatocks Pizza, bestpizza in Ohio, even though security
Sam hates it. Um. MaybeI'll take him to lunch on there,
but uh no, in all seriousreason to go to Dayton. Go see

(58:07):
Sam see salmon truck. I knowthe truck is out of Dayton, right,
I don't know where he is now, I forget anyways, shouldn't break
back superlex into the ieed Brainbuster getsto count, Tyler gets to his feet
looking triumphant and uh. Right beforethat, Aries sets up for a four

(58:28):
or fifty splash Sunset flipped out ofthe corner kick of death. Brainbuster followed
with the last chancery and Tyler blacktaps out. All of this eleven minutes
five seconds. Yes, there wasa big crammed out. I mean,
eleven minutes is a good time, but they crammed out. They did.

(58:49):
They maximize those eleven minutes as well, and it did make like you know,
watch watch it, and I hada focused on Haries watching this match,
and part because his hair was glorious. This era of Marri's hair.
Since we've been talking about hair today, this era of Ari's hair was glorious
looking. I was very envious of. You know, I wish my hair

(59:10):
looked like that when it grew long, instead of duct tailing up and looking
stupid. But how who the malaywould be great? Now I had one,
I have like a fifth grade Nowthat's a rat tail. I think
that picture, I think fifth gradepictures. I'll send you the uh I

(59:31):
think I'll think you should post iton the internet on Paton. Yeah,
uh see nice. The explosiveness ofaries was just something that jumped off the
screen at me, you know, and and it's and it's a little things

(59:52):
like if I compare and contracts,it's like, okay, Ari's doing the
drop kick has this explosiveness to it. Conversely, Tyler and his I was
just called the stompy stomp elbow hasnone and it never did. And it
was just one of those things thatit's just like, I love the idea

(01:00:12):
of like this because it's you know, one get the crowd engaged with the
stomp, stop stomp before he takesoff runs. But it was just always
that like slow down and right beforehe hit the elbow as suppose like jumping
into it or something like that. And I was just like, those are
my contrast of the two, likethe way areas does that dropkake versus the
way til it does that elbow ofthe way somebody can just explode out.

(01:00:39):
It's it's noticeable too, because theareas that we would see about two years
later, that explosiveness was h well, how shall I say, well,
now you can find that explosiveness washears no, but it was but yes,

(01:01:00):
but it was a choice. Itwasn't a I can't do it anymore
or I don't know how to doit. It was a choice, a
character choice for a better or worsehowever you whether they you know, however
you look at it, and Ithink I look back on it more sympathetically
now than I did living in it. Understanding the whys and how like why

(01:01:23):
it was being done. Um yeah, I'm still trying to figure it out
twelve years later. Well, it'sthe TV heel, the heel that was
unlike any champion Healing of Honor haddone. It was trying to do something
different. I get it. Whetheror not I agree that it liked it,

(01:01:44):
it's a different story, but Iunderstood it. I understand it better
now than I Yeah, the thoughtprocess of yes, exactly exactly. Yeah,
I see what you're saying. Um, but this, you know,
as we're heading towards the kind ofbeginning of that arias that he'll areas at
the end of two thousand and eight, and you know, the two thousand

(01:02:05):
and nine like it was just likedamn, how fun. It was just
one of those reminders of how fuckinggood he was at this time frame.
Even though it's you know, it'snot their best match, it's not his
best match, but you still seethose things like fuck that that that's why
he like you know, you questionedlike why, and I don't think you

(01:02:28):
would have been happy no matter whowant to find about a two thousand and
four, there's nobody that couldn't tobe eachhow that would have made you happy?
But if these things that make yousee that make you go, uh,
that's why. Well, I I'mcontent with this one. Like they
just I don't know, it's justtwo really talented wrestlers, but square peg

(01:02:52):
roundhole for me. Um Jimmy Jakosruns in, he chokes out Arias with
the end time and he's continuing hischaos that he's hyped up. Yes Scay
yes, say yes Scay. Yes. They're suffering chaos, ugliness and mayhem
here, and the crowd is veryappreciative of what they're seeing. So I

(01:03:17):
think it's it's it feel it's it'smuch more of that, like oh polite,
like we're responding to this, butit doesn't feel engaged the way because
they're more engaged in the match thatthey just saw than in the angle stuff
here. Yeah, yeah, thatthat angle stuffs for the home audience.

(01:03:40):
That's for the DVD audience. That'snot for the people in attendance. I
wonder how many of these people actuallyare DVD. Well, you gotta figure
at this point we were, Imean, you gotta figure. It's minimal.
Like we had our Japanese orders, you know, and we did our
our whole sailing out to to toTaka Nakayama for free birds, um.

(01:04:05):
But even still those weren't mass quantities. It would be like, you know,
here's twenty five to you know, fifty copies of a single DVD.
So it wasn't a huge you know, we didn't have a huge I mean,
aside from Canadians, we didn't havea huge international buying audience anyway.
It was most primarily US based Canada, I know, Australia, Australia,

(01:04:31):
the UK. Yeah, but eventhen we had you know, wholesalers in
the UK, you know, betweena one merchandise mark Sloan, I felt
there was one other one. Butlike you know, we had our whole
salers that we that we dump too, but we had our own UK orders
and some to Ireland and Germany.Trying to think if there's anywhere idea mean,

(01:05:00):
sure these places I did not. There's plenty of places I did not
send it or like, I can'ttell you I ever shipped anything to anywhere
in in Africa, you know,I don't remember ever shipping anything to like
Prince Nanna and God no, no, he think he's now he's got bootleggers
and hackers. Come on, youknow it's true. Yeah, um,

(01:05:23):
I don't know. You know. And we and we aired stuff. You
know, we would send stuff overto to Samurai TV. Mhm, but
anything that we would send would beyou know, behind um, same thing
with stuff we sent to like theFight Network or or um. It was

(01:05:45):
all behind. It wasn't you know, the most up to date events the
wrestling channel in the UK Wrestling channel, I know, mm hmm, what
a great come. I don't Idon't know what the uh what the the
cat is staring at the wall, just staring at the wall. So I
don't know. I don't really knowhow engaged or up to date they would

(01:06:10):
be with the angle side of things. That's I say. It was definitely
just that was something played for theDVD buying audience to continue the storylines.
Well, something not for the DVDaudience and for the live crowd only comes
next and it's Eddie Edwards with sweetand sour Larry Sweeney. And on paper,

(01:06:31):
that sounds awesome until you realize theman on the opposite side of the
ring is Kazushi Meamoto making his fourthappearance and Ring of Honor, one of
which was never saw the light ofday. I don't believe, Thank God,
I don't think the great Kazushi versusSean Davari saw the light of day.

(01:06:59):
I know the Fourway did from SaintPaul, but I don't think the
second match of us all wated there. I mean, this is just this
is one of those things where Iread the name on the card and I
go, huh, all right, and you know obviously it was a part

(01:07:23):
of Final Battle Steven three. Uh, you know, I I don't know
this just he falls on the turnbuckle. He and Eddie seemed like they are
in two different pages. Sweeney isyelling and you know, screaming at ringside.

(01:07:46):
But for whatever reason, maybe itwas the way the building was.
You can't really pick up what he'ssaying well, and I was trying to
recall what the camera situation is here, because, as I'm sure you can
see when it cuts to floor cameras, we're not using Jimmy's footage here,

(01:08:10):
we're using the other floor camera, which I was trying to discuss it with
pain of like did we use theSamurai TVN TV whatever footage for the DVD?
Like we're trying to recall what reasondid we not use our own footage
there? Because then that essentially meanswe'd have to go back and walk,

(01:08:34):
you know, you'd have to goback and check Battle the Best and see
if it's the same situation there,Like why did we not use our own
camera footage? If Jimmy was therefilming, I'm sure, what's what's the
reason for that? If the footagewas bad, if something happened to it,

(01:08:55):
I don't recall, but I wouldbe curious to check Battle the Best
and see if it's the same thingI'm there, if it was or if
it was just the show specifically.Well, this one goes five minutes eight
seconds. The two K one bombis blocked by Miamoto. He hits a

(01:09:18):
lariat on Eddie, Sweeney distracts him, and Larry accidentally hits Eddie and Miamoto
scoots in there for a pin.I just wrote this was very man Yeah,
I agreed, I just man.Um, the fans are at least

(01:09:41):
into the post match where they're channingfor Eddie to to go after Sweeney,
but then they hug and they leave. I suppose some of that. I
mean, there's a familiarity with Eddiefrom his time in Noah. But yeah,
the match itself didn't really do anythingfor anybody. It wasn't the kind

(01:10:01):
of match you can go to pointback at in Eddie's Ring of Honor career.
Is like anything that was important tohis Ring of Honor career. Well,
I feel like if you asked himso, I remember when you wrestled
because of humian motto and differ Ariaki, Eddie will just go no no.

(01:10:24):
Must have been good though. Um. Up next is the Brian Danielson promotion
Eventum, he you know, putsover Ring of Honor and what he and
Ring of Honor have achieved together andindividually. Um, He's dreamt of winning

(01:10:45):
a championship in Japan, which hehas not done up until tonight, and
he's gunning for Connor Maru and theJunior heavyweight title and Proreus I know tonight
on the card and I I thoughthe won like some date him and him

(01:11:09):
and Chris Daniels had the nude hadthe junior titles. Yeah for n zero
Yeah, oh, I would sayingI was thinking it's zero one. But
yeah it was a new Japan.Yeah, sure, yeah, they were
the I They were i WGP JuniorHeavyweight Taggy champs in two thousand and four.
Technically I guess with curry Man,not Chris Daniels. But yes,
two totally separate people, two totallyseparate people, So we'll just go with

(01:11:32):
it. But my assumption immediately mybrain just went, oh he means singles
titles. Yeah, and technically BrianDanilson didn't win that belt. American Dragon
did. That's right, that's right, Um, completely different people, even
though at this point he did nothave a mask. I'm i'm I've heard
that Curryman is actually um any confirmationI heard that Curryman was Venom from t

(01:12:00):
Way Oh interesting, Yeah, Idon't know, that is my other The
other room I heard was Joey absAh, that's a good one. M
Venom was actually uh Paul Diamond,Okay, so gotcha. Um, So

(01:12:23):
we've got uh the Daniel something that'skind of wrapped up. Um, the
match itself will get too later, but pack a lunch and uh right now,
right now, I would say,is the time that you can start
putting on your helmet, buckling yourseat belt and getting ready. As this

(01:12:43):
show takes off into the stratosphere,We've got Tigi Morey making his ROH debut
taking on al Jenarico, and Uh, I'm gonna be honest here this Uh,
this one is quite the show.It was chaos like in the best

(01:13:05):
way. This is If you're abig proponent of selling, change the channel,
change the channel. This match isnot for you. If you're a
big fan of fucking craziness and justtwo wrestlers going balls to the wall for
ten minutes or whatever it is,this match is for you. Yeah,

(01:13:29):
this is This is one of thoseones where I just like, a couple
of minutes in, I go,oh, it's gonna be one of those
all right, yeah, and thenI I'm able to enjoy both like this
style of match and then a matchwhere there's a lot of selling and psychology
and crowd work and there's a verybig delineation between the two and I do

(01:13:56):
feel like there are people that wouldsee this match and oh no those ships.
Yeah, but then there's other peoplethat would sit there and go,
wow, this is awesome. Iwant to see more of this. Yes,
and both of those are okay, correct, both of those are acceptable
responses the crowd on hand, thisis the first match that they really come

(01:14:17):
up for. Yeah, they're vocal. They're very vocal. So you know,
I remember once upon a time peoplejust had this assumption that, oh,
Japanese audiences are are quiet and respectful, and they just now, I'm
motherfucker, what's the what's the Twittersaying? Tell me you've tell me you've

(01:14:40):
never watched something without telling me you'venever watched it. Yeah, yeah,
damn you out yourself as a lablabel. Yeah, draping that label on
Japanese professional wrestling audiences right there.Um, this this crib, This is
the match that really like gets themfired up. If anything, I think

(01:15:01):
the one thing I've always taken awayfrom Japanese crowds is that their physical reactions
as opposed to vocal they're physical, like, you know, hands in the
air and hands on their head. They do that more than American fans do.
American fans will yell and chant, and you know, have these organized

(01:15:24):
more. I won't say organic chants, but like you know, the this
is awesome or fight forever or whateverother goofy are organic anymore? No,
they just they're there. But I'msaying in Japan the reaction is more organic.

(01:15:45):
Where it's it feels natural and realand authentic. Fight forever. Please
don't stop, you know, godown the list. The American fans chant
and a match that's m yes, yeah, Like did you have to earn

(01:16:06):
it from the Japanese fans. Americanfans are willing to just kind of chant
along because it's a thing to do. It's a shiny object to chase.
Yes. Yeah, And they saida low bar and the bar switches depending
on who's in the ring. Yeah, or you still got it. That's

(01:16:27):
another one that I absolutely hate.I think that's the one I hate the
most. Yeah, you still nomotherfucker? He never lost it, that's
right, or she never lost it? Like just stop think think you're insulting
them. Like if you get inthe ring and you start bumping and doing

(01:16:49):
your heel stuff and then I go, you still got it? No,
that means you lost it. Atsome point and you sucked. I thought
I lost it, yeah, andthen you were found again. This crab.

(01:17:09):
This match match awesome. Yeah, gives us a crowd plenty of excitement
and action and dives and fun stuff. I will tell you there's one point
in this match where I reacted audiblyhere in my office when ishi Mori does

(01:17:32):
the running head scissors and Jenercho goesto the floor. Then ishi Mori does
the moon salt press and then ahandspring like back kick with just there's like
a ferociousness behind those kicks and thecrowd is completely insane at this point.

(01:18:00):
Um. Then I the female contingentfor Isshimori, Yeah, like is so
loud and I mean think of Isshimori. Now he's fucking jacked here, not
as jacked but shredded like he's allabs. But it's that very vocal,

(01:18:27):
very loud, high pitch like everythingfor that Isshimori like does he walks and
he gets that he like there's somuch energy behind you know, Isshimori from
this crowd. But you know Jenericohas his share of of love as well.
But that is a so much louderthan that. Fishimoi the pump handle

(01:18:47):
meets you know who driver. Theygot the hot to count Eric a humongous
reaction. Um. These guys bustout literally everything you could think of,
and the crowd just gets more andmore into it as the match comes to

(01:19:08):
a close. UM. Twelve minutes, twenty two seconds. Ishi more blocks
the turnbuckle brainbuster uh, and hehits a top probe tornado DDT, which
was fucking awesome, nasty, nasty, and then Ed Generico gets the two

(01:19:28):
count from a Yakuza kick um,which someone say that it wasn't quit.
I don't think it was quite ahell of a kick yet, um.
And then was a heck of akick at this point. Yeah, Ishi
Mori comes back with a two countfrom the crucifix driver and then he does
the hammerlock cradle DDT and his uhpatented elbow. This is the superstar elbow.

(01:19:59):
Um, thank you, Mary CatherineGallagher and he she Morey picks up
the win here twelve minutes, twentytwo seconds. Um, I just gave
you a terrible idea for an SNLS GETT meeting of the Gallaghers. Oh
yeah, Gallagher Gallagher shameless and MaryCatherine, Yeah, she's like the distant

(01:20:26):
cousin. This could be a newshow for could be a new show or
Mary Catherine Gallagher comes in and shemarries Frank and then they realized they were
related, and Hi Jinks erupts.I feel like, did Yeah, that
would be a thing that would happento Frank. That would be a thing

(01:20:47):
that would happen to Frank, butyou know he's dead. So spoiler alert
for a show that ended two yearsago or whatever it was a year ago,
I forget I missed that show.Yeah, I mean yes, so
I love I love that the HammerlockCradle DDT thing and as a as a

(01:21:10):
button and the Superstar elbow is aamazingly impressive thing to watch. But it's
it's like the difference though between thethe the Cradle DDT is the rock bottom
and the Superstar elbow is the people'selbow. One is a much better finisher

(01:21:32):
as a move. The other oneis much more of a oh that's cool.
Yeah. The Credible DDT is afar more impactful looking visual. The
Superstar elbow is just really fucking coollooking. And that's I think the flashy
junior heavyweight style that was in vogueat this point, especially in Noah,

(01:21:56):
their junior's division was loaded loaded, mum, and it just gets it's gonna
get even more loaded here shortly. But Ishi Moriy was somebody and and Mick
Axel made this point um in hisnotes on the show that I think a

(01:22:16):
lot of us wanted to see himget an extended Kenta Marefuji style run,
and it just never worked out.I would have been fun, um,
I mean, think of the rosterlike obviously Jennerico, but I think him
and Davy would have been fun.Him and the partner versus the briscos mhm

(01:22:39):
him and go just to see whatthat would look like. Yeah, h
Ishi Mori and Roddy Mori and amotivated aries. I mean, you could
go on and on and on,but nevertheless we have to go on and
on. Ladies, it's time toget those summer looks ready, and you

team match where Davy Richards and tocatch you more Ashima unite with Larry Sweeney

(01:24:15):
at ringside to take on Jay andMark Briscoe and so and I'm right.
It was Death before Dishonor where Sweeneyoffered to sign the Briscoes. Well,
you said tag Wars, Yeah,I was wrong. On Tag Wars.
It was Death Supports Honor. Itwas the second night when it started in

(01:24:41):
Philly because it was right after Siddellhad been sold up the River. Gotcha,
you had me looking at You hadme looking to see if Fishimore went
Isshue Moore main done in the Statesreal quick. I mean that roster.
He had a few, uh fewmatches in the GW GFW you know Impact

(01:25:02):
World. Oh yeah, in twentyseventeen. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's only his only Ring of Honorinteraction after this was the was from the
g One Super Garden. Mm hmm, yep. That was the first time
I got to see him in person, and he just had a good man

(01:25:25):
had a pretty fun match with aleXane Um with during the Super Juniors.
I'd like two or three shows behindon the Super Juniors as at the time
we're taping this, but he was, you know, he did the good
match with Alexane on there that Isaw. I haven't seen any of it
yet, but how is uh,how is Desperado watch? You didn't Desperado

(01:25:45):
big thumbs up? Just in general, you just stuff has been really good
for the for the tournaments, soI recommend, I mean you know me
uh and and old utes uh veryyou people over this period of time.

(01:26:08):
I mean, I remember when hewas driving Cleveland for AIW and just buy
himself in the car hustle and andhaving probably the best like technical wrestling matches
on the show, but going youknow, not in a central storyline or
anything. And then just to seewhere he's at now, that mean streak

(01:26:30):
that's in him. Oh man,It's just it's one of those great things
where I'm just like, I lovethis. It makes me I've enjoyed most
of what I've seen from the fromthe Super Junior so far. I'll have
to give it a look at I'mnot I don't think I'm gonna have too
much going on this weekend until Sundaynight, so maybe I'll give that a

(01:26:53):
whirl. Its big big pay perview on the if you're listening in the
regular feed, we had a bigpay per view to watch this past Sunday
if you're on Patreon of course tomorrowby w double or Nothing. But speaking
of double or Nothing, we havea double match here. It's daveyan Moreashima

(01:27:16):
against the Briscoe's in Tag Action, and man, I am so disappointed with
this match. I would say, this is the most disappointing match on the
show. And I watched me Amotoversus Eddie Edwards and that match was not
Eddie's fault. But wow, thisthis was like low effort Morrishima combined with

(01:27:49):
like Davy didn't want to do anythingversus like Briscos who were just there.
I don't think you ever getta we'rejust here from Davy in the brisk.
I don't know what this was then, but yeah, Moreshima not so much.

(01:28:11):
It feels like this match was bookedtwo was put together with how do
we get Moreshima as literally involved aspossible? Um their debut is definitely the
work course for his team. Ican say that I really didn't get the
finish um because the alarm clock isusually just I'll move in Davy's repertoire,

(01:28:41):
even once the Wolves come together atthe end of the year, like it's
just a double team move in theirrepertoire. So to see it used as
a finish was kind of like thatthat doesn't work for me at all,
But yeah, yeah it was.It was. This was for going twelve

(01:29:02):
minutes. It was quite disappointing.Yeah, yeah, to me, the
highlight of the match was the stereobutt splashes from Davy and Moreshima. Oh
yeah, because that's like the oneredeeming quality to me about Davy Richards from

(01:29:27):
kind of the maybe like three orfour years down the road is like the
comedy Davy, Yeah, when hestopped taking himself so seriously, I like
that, uh because it felt real. I can I can picture like a

(01:29:47):
childish sense of humor about a spot, a childlike not childish, childlike sense
of humor about doing the spot. This is hilarious, um, you know.
And there's some Sweeney involvement, whichis fine, but I mean more
human does a boss man slam. But we go to the finish here at

(01:30:13):
eleven minutes fifty eight seconds, backbreakerspringboard knee combination hits, Davey has to
fight free out of the doomsday device. We get a year Naggi suplex from
Mark, death value driver from Jay. Sweeney tries to jump in again.
Mark hits a tumbling sent on thatgets a two count cutthroat driver into the

(01:30:35):
alarm clock. Davy gets the pinon Mark because of course, and to
me, this just never got outof the station now, not at all.
And this felt like very much feltlike a moment who you know,

(01:30:59):
it's it's not it's the to putDavy under in this situation, I would,
because he's just with some random person. You know, it's more asma,
Yes, but it's just some randomIt's not you know, the wolves
aren't together yet. You know,we've still got a couple more months till
the wolves are together. So whythere's a very clear, simplistic way to

(01:31:23):
do that too. I mean, look at the size contrast between Moreshima and
Davy and then tossing you know, some sweeey shenanigans. You very easily could
have a miscommunication and then just aroll up even if you don't know that
did that well, just did whatyou just said already with the Eddie match,

(01:31:43):
just the tag version of that.Yeah, I just that's that's all.
Just Yeah, this is a thisis a miss unfortunately. Yeah,
but what they do is perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with any of the
action. It's just you know, there's better in there. Yeah. The
lack of more stream of being involvedwas disappointing and very apparent. Yes,

(01:32:06):
yeah, stood out. Yes.So then we go to Jimmy Jacobson,
Tyler Black attacking the Briscoes after week. We haven't had enough age of the
fall yet. I mean, there'slet's just all get everybody together. And
of course this is building to Glorybown Or seven in Steelcage Warfare, which

(01:32:31):
I mean, I was too busycrying in the back with a fucked up
shoulder. I don't I don't evenremember watching the match well, so similar
mindset other than the broken shoulder.U I. The only reason I remember
this steelcage Warfare happening was because Isat next to Mom and Papa Briscoe during

(01:32:58):
this show and they were very intosteelcage warfare while I was not, and
I was sipping on my bud lightor whatever it was that they had at
the arena, and that was it. I just casually looking down at my

(01:33:19):
phone, seeing what's going on inthe world. I think I literally wanted
to be anywhere but the arena atthat point. Fun fact that I just
found out maybe in the last week, but the famous title belt photo with

(01:33:39):
all the various titles that were onthe Glory Brown Or Seventh show was taken
after Steelcage Warfare, like right asthe match was ending. That was when
the photo was taken. I hadno idea when the photo was taken,
just that it was from that night. Yeah, so we've got Jimmy on

(01:34:01):
the microphone. Jimmy's in the ring, Nigel McGinnis is on the microphone,
his opponent for the evening. He'seasier said than done, I guess m.
He congratulates the clamdigger Brian Danielson onhis victory yesterday, says he was
lucky, and he says the Ageof the Fall have also been lucky,

(01:34:26):
but their luck has run out becauseNigel McGinnis is here to put an into
Jimmy Jacobs and the Age of theFall of Shenanigans later this evening. Yep,
I'm I don't remember. Was thisthe timeframe when he had like all

(01:34:47):
sorts of silly nicknames for people? No, this isn't tired Championship. He
could have had like a really goodone for Jimmy Jacobs because been like he
didn't bother Jake Jimmy's or something Idon't know could have but no, no,
nothing, Well and Adrian, therewasn't a program. This was just

(01:35:10):
a here's a match between two guys. Watch. I've saved it for the
main event. Let's talk about somethingI was excited to watch. Yes,
literally the match that led my fascinationsto watch this show. It is the
GHC Junior Heavyweight title match, YoshanovuKanamaru defending against the American Dragon, Brian

(01:35:38):
Danielson. Now, if you've listenedto this show for two hundred episodes,
or you know, maybe half ofthat or even twenty five percent of it,
you've probably heard us talk about ourlove of pro Wrestling Noah and our
love of Pro Wrestling Noah heavyweight matches, but also our our love for the

(01:36:02):
junior division of Noah, especially aroundlike the two thousand and three, the
two thousand and seven eight time.Yoshinobu Kanamaru is probably the most criminally underrated
junior heavyweight of that time period. He never vented, never ventured out of

(01:36:25):
Japan. He could be flashy,He had a mean, nasty streak to
him. He still does to thisday, still going strong. He is
in the super juniors that weird,we're just discussing like he's He is one

(01:36:45):
of those guys that just is thecomplete product as a professional wrestler. And
I always go back to Kinnamaru andKenta as my favorite kind of Marrow match.
Um, I don't have a dateon that one for you, but

(01:37:08):
I want to say it was inlike two thousand and five or six.
Um, they went like forty twominutes. Um, it's on. It's
on one of the things we've puton Patreon. Yeah, but this might
might have topped that match. Idon't think there's ever been a bad Brian

(01:37:31):
Danielson match. Um, Like,he even dragged a pretty good match out
of Kane. So um, ifyou can do that, you might as
well just give him a broomstick andlet him go to town. Because this
this one was just off the fuckingchart. Yeah. Yeah, it's us

(01:38:02):
superb Just everything about this match likeauthentic Noah match here, and you know,
they lock up and Brian gets outwrestled by Conna Marrow, which I

(01:38:26):
thought was really important from a Ringof honor perspective to show that the so
called best in the world, BrianDanielson has some work to do. It
as a layer as the DVD buyingfan. It adds a layer for them
to say, oh, even ifthey don't know who Connamorrow is, now

(01:38:49):
they know this guy is right atBrian's love. Yeah, yeah, No,
it's a it's just not even thefact that he's like David Lenny can
sell him on commentary. They cantalk about he's, you know, the
first GHC junior heavyweight champion, thefirst you know, and have this the

(01:39:15):
second junior tag champions. Um.You know, they can praise all his
accolades, but the fans need tosee him. So, like we talked
about in the Ishi more generical match, there's two different polls here. There's

(01:39:35):
the no psychology, let's just doa bunch of crazy stuff and get a
reaction, and then there's the let'ssell, let's use ring psychology. Let's
do our best to you know, formulate this story around the body part.
And that's what this is. Um. The story here is that Brian is

(01:40:02):
after Kanna Marrow's arm. He's youknow, wrenching it, throwing it over
his own shoulder, and Kinna Maruis trying to work on Brian all over
you know, he's running his legyou know, into the guard rails and
um it's the tempo is kind ofup and down too, so you're getting

(01:40:28):
that variety of styles that they knowa junior division presented in this time.
UM, I guess kind of giveme your perspective on like Kinna Maru and
and where this ranks. Well,I think with this match, yeah,

(01:40:49):
we had some technical glitches. Soif I'm repeating myself, forgive me.
I don't know what recorded and whatdidn't. UM with Kunnamaru, I think
it's you know, Lenny, Lennyand Dave can sing his praise is all
they want, Like they can sellhim as the first jate C Junior Champion.
They can talk you know, secondever Junior GC Junior tag champion.

(01:41:13):
Um, you know, essentially thefoundation of the junior division in pro wrestling,
Noah. And but what needs tobe seen is that you can be
told it, but now you needto see it. And so the fact
that he's in there with Brian, who is on a pedestal in the Ring

(01:41:34):
of Honor landscape at this point,Um, he's on a pedestal in the
Ring of Hour landscape. Like andeven in general, you know, it
wouldn't be too far off a stretch, even in two thousand and eight to
say that Ryan was Brian. Brianis one of the best wrestlers in the

(01:41:55):
world at this point, if notthe depending on your tastes. For me,
yep, I will yeah, Igot that label on. There's close.
Yeah. So the fact that whatfans need to see who are not
familiar with the product of mill productsis indeed to see kanamar in there with

(01:42:18):
him as an equal, if notslightly better, and Brian's got to level
up to be able to beat himand win this championship. And that's what
we get. You know, it'slike the entire sequence over the catal mutilation,
in the back and forth of fightingfor it and uh you know eventually

(01:42:40):
into the elbows and tiger suplex likeit just there's so much goodness in this
match and intensity that I think islike the hallmark of Brian's matches that everything
you're watching has this like this rolefeeling that you know, this is this

(01:43:02):
is a struggle. This is nota you know, complimentary working together their
sort of situation. It all feelslike a fight. And this this is
no different than than those matches. You know, it's without a a specifically

(01:43:24):
personal issue between the two of them. It's personal in the sense that you
know, you're trying to take achampions title. That's that's pretty personal.
Um So it's bad and it's Brianwanting to achieve his goal of finally winning
a singles title in in a Japanesepromotion though, and it's against you,
like I said, the foundation ofthe Junior division and pro wrestling. No

(01:43:46):
who's like on his I don't knowthird title run at this point, and
it's it's imagine it allows both peopleto showcase like their skills. And also
I think the fact that Brian ison the this is this These Um bring
about shows are at the end ofa Noah tour that was the NTV Junior

(01:44:09):
Tag League more or less, soBrian had been teaming with Davy of all
people on this loop of the shows, and had just wrestled Um. The
last match of the tournament for himwas katurus Zuki and kind Ofmorrow against Brian
and davey Um. So it's likethey've also had plenty of time with each

(01:44:32):
other in those you know, tagmatches six man tags you know that are
a staple of the Japanese companies onthe tours, to also get familiar with
each other. The one thing aboutthis that stood out to me, and
you hit right on it, wasthe words struggle. So I had a

(01:44:56):
conversation the other day with somebody thatis a pro wrestler and we're talking about
the best types of matches, andhe said, it has to feel like
a fight. And I said, but sometimes even a good heavyweight boxing match
seems easy for somebody. I said, it needs to feel like it's a

(01:45:19):
struggle on both sides for something tohit me. And he kind of turned
his head and just he actually waslike, Wow, I've never thought about
it that way. And I'd liketo think that that's something that future generation

(01:45:43):
should think about in their matches,is that it's not necessarily about how many
moves you do or what you do. You can do that style, but
if you're going to have something different, something that stands out, trying build
your match around a you know,a struggle, like make it a tug

(01:46:04):
of war. And that's what thismatch felt like to me, because just
when you thought Brian was inching ahead, kind of mar pulls him back.
Well, I think the tug ofwar, the struggle is can't be for
every match, No, it hasto. It has to be that difference.

(01:46:25):
Yeah, it's a situational you know, Brian, Brian would not should
not be going in there having astruggle with with Shane Haggett, and you
know, um he might be likeyeah, for all the wrong reasons,
the struggle to not look like shit, um where to stop. He's just

(01:46:46):
gonna have a giddy, dumbass lookuh it. But yes, like to
a degree, you know, doesn'tit doesn't have to be a fifty fifty
struggle, but like you know,it's there needs to be a dead element
of that element of this. Thisis a fight. It's not a cakewalker.

(01:47:09):
It's not damn the dance. Um. You know, sometimes sometimes that
that works for me. But myoverall preferred uh frame is this match and
the next match as well. Yeah. Basically I think I can some up

(01:47:30):
my my my take on professional wrestlingin four words cribs from eminem Do you
like violence? I mean I couldjust sum it up and just say,
you know, like two thousand andfive pro us like Noah, I'm good,
give me that. Yeah that's fine. I'm eighty nine. Nwa oh

(01:47:56):
five, nollah, I'm good, teen ninety WWF. The King's Road stuff.
That that that arc of stuff, you know, as I've become increasingly
familiar with that over the years, like yeah, that that is that is
the sweet spot. Of pro wrestlingfor me, just violent, violent,
violent looking pro wrestling. Yeah,it feels real, feels feels like a

(01:48:20):
fight. Mm. That was this, That was absolutely this, and that
when Brian finally, like you know, at the end, it finally all
comes together and he, you know, gets to achieve his dream of being
a singles champion in Japanese promotions.Yeah, yeah, I mean the catam

(01:48:44):
mutilation finishes off Knnamarrow twenty minutes fortyone seconds. Um. The fact that
he's satisfying twenty one minutes too,The fact that he got Connamarro to tap,
to be willing to tap out,I should say civically, um,
is important to note, you know. I mean, you could lose like

(01:49:06):
a flashpin or just a regular pin. But you want to give me a
whole different rant about the fucked uppsychology of American wrestling fans versus like everybody
else, or tapping out is likethis huge humbling like, oh my god,
you tapped out where like it's afinish like, but it's it's it's

(01:49:32):
choice. I don't want any understandI understand why it has beat, why
it is sold that way, Iunderstand it, but it's just did an
amusing thing to me, how thethe idea of the tap out and the

(01:49:54):
submission I think is treated how itis treated in American pro wrestling versus like,
I don't know literally everywhere I don'tknow. Let's go Japanese progressing,
because I'll just use that as mytouchdown because this is what made me think
about it. Watch I can't rememberspecifically what I was watching, and it
was a tapot that was the finish. You know, it wasn't treated like

(01:50:15):
this moment of humiliation or you know, anything like that, whereas I think
a lot of times it's more that'show it ends up being. When you
know, a lot of times itends up being that I don't view it
necessarily as humiliation. I kind ofview it as like the viciousness was just

(01:50:36):
too much. The responses afterwards areusually like the encourage the fans of Jenny,
you tapped out, nobody chance, you got pinned. You got pinned.
True, because the mentality behind itis the submission is far worse than
the pin That's fair, um,but just it's an interesting to me.

(01:51:02):
It's the way that fans look atfinishes. You got counted out, you
got counted out. Okay, yeah, I've never really thought about it that
way. I always view a submissionwith somebody, you know, submitting to

(01:51:26):
the hole they're tapping out, orhowever you want to phrase it. Like,
I always put that on a pedestalbecause anybody that has the submission as
their finish is a more they haveto get into the move, so technically
they are more versed in the styleas opposed to just picking somebody up and

(01:51:48):
dropping him on their head. Youknow, Sid, for example, Sid
is not going to use the sharpshooter. Sid is going to use the power
bomb because he is six ten andstupid. Don't you say a bad word
about Sid, or listen late Ningwill he will come get you. I

(01:52:12):
went to the toy store the otherday, Hastall Toy shout out to Mitch
and Hastall and Tony. I boughtSid. Okay, I don't know.
If you can see him on theI can see half his body there.
He is there. You go Elitethirty seven. Sid costs me fifty dollars.

(01:52:33):
Yeah. I love this figure.I had to have it. I've
been wanting it for years and theyfinally had it. It was out when
I was not collecting and I madesome exchanges and I got sid so things
coming out when I wasn't collecting iswhat has led to these two detos on
the side of me and Goddamn toyHuts Ethan paid shout out. I can't

(01:53:00):
wait so much, but I can'twait till Ethan is uh and I probably
if you get him, we'll haveto talk about this off the air.
But Midge once appearances from certain people, and Ethan is on his list,
so be happy to pass his informationalong to you. Um. But yeah,

(01:53:21):
I mean it's just for me.Um, the match of the night
so far, and there's no question, Like I'm not there was no question.
This is the match of the nightperiod. Yeah. I like singles

(01:53:41):
match for sure. I love thetag match that's coming up. Um,
yeah, you know for different reasons, Um, I think, uh,
you know. Noah giving Brian theGHC Junior title shows a lot of faith
in him, which is super important, and now he can take the belt
to America. Um, Joeho Guccigives him the belt. Brian has just

(01:54:08):
got that giant smile on his faceas it falls on my desk. It's
like him real he would care abouthim I mean he's standing stable, but
he felt he's got his arms up. He's ready to give somebody the power
bomb, but Brian and Joe Hooguccitake photos. Um, he's got the

(01:54:32):
trophy as well, And yeah, this is a cool, cool moment.
And I probably haven't watched this matchin you know, real time since the
DVD came out, so this wasa really really fun hidden gem. Yeah

(01:54:53):
yeah, yeah, definitely. Thenwe go backstage to Brian Danielson, where
I even I got kind of emotionallistening to him talk. Um. You
can just hear the passion in hisvoice. Yes, of like finally climbing

(01:55:15):
the mountain to being the GHC Juniorchamp. And he apparently has figured out
that being the champ means power veryfast because he declares that facing Nakajima UH
in Philly um is going to bea GHC Junior title match. I mean

(01:55:36):
he requests it. He doesn't demandit, he requests it. Are you
gonna tell Brian Danielson, no,no money, power, respect, but
you need in life titles miles youneed in life A number is more of

(01:55:58):
of ring of honor, at leastthe number one staple in UH the honorable
mentioned podcast is uh hagan Arn singingat least once in episode, if not
several times. I need In life, it's more a tag matches, like
what we've got next? That's right, Nao MEETI Marafuji teams with Katahiko Nakajima

(01:56:20):
to take on Kenta and Coda Abushi. Yeah, look at this on paper,
you know, fuck, this isa real thing. And this is
a very young Nakajima who looks verydifferent than he does now. Yeah,

(01:56:40):
and this is very young Abushi withonly six abs instead of sixteen M and
I think, yeah, I know, ramissed and not mentioned. It sounds
like that the Abushi the person that'sgoing through a lot right now. I
mean, just read about his hismother and Jesus, it's a lot of

(01:57:02):
Yeah, it's it's an incredibly youknow, tough story and um, without
getting into too much detail, I'vekind of learned what it's like, UM
from a close friend. To growup without a mom and and to have
to lose a parent is incredibly difficult. UM in areas that you just don't

(01:57:31):
recognize until you hear it from someone. And thankfully you know, Abushi's mom
is okay. But the mere thoughtof it. She died. I thought
she'd found my wrong. I thoughtshe did attempt. Okay, no,
I didn't know if there was somethingafter that got in the bid, but

(01:57:57):
um, just the mere thought ofit. His hunting, and he seems
to be going through a lot,and obviously we wish him nothing but the
best going forward, um in hispersonal and professional life, but most importantly
his personal life. Get that inorder and then worry about the programs later.

(01:58:19):
But yeah, you know, lookingat this show, this was the
match that stood out to me becauseI just thought to myself, well,
if we're gonna throw these four namesin a hat, we picked the proper
teams, and uh, sign meup. I mean, generally speaking,
you would think it'd be Kent andmar Fuji on the same team, but

(01:58:43):
I want to see him. It'sno fun. Yeah, we've seen too
many times. Let's see them beatthe shit out of each other. Yes,
yeah, really may have a wholelot here, dude, Let the
young boys do. Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely a Kent and Marfuji have
their spots, and it's not likeMoreshima where they just kind of are like,

(01:59:04):
yeah, we're just gonna go I'mgonna stand out stand on the floor
for twenty minutes. Um. Now, they put in the work here,
so you know, even because likethe last five minutes of the thirty minute
time limit is basically a showcase fora Bushi Nakajima. But damn it,

(01:59:25):
fuck, this is I just definitely, Uh, do you like violence?
Then this is for you? Becausedo you make violence? Do you like
people trying to kick the souls outof their opponents. There's one point where
Nakajima kicks Aboushi and you literally seeAboushi just kind of like the shape of

(01:59:49):
Abushi just fall out of his back. Yes, you ever seen he?
Just you knowing? The ancient onetouches doctor Strange on the head head and
the forehead and his third eye,and his astral form goes through all of
the astral plane and then bounces backinto his body. That is what I've
been visioned every time any one ofthese four kick the other one. Is

(02:00:15):
that out of body experience? Becausegood lord, it's glorious, glorious violence
spectacle. And yes, damn it, I am entertained. I want to
run this match back in twenty twentytwo somehow. Yeah, I don't want
to navigate the politics to make thathappen. But no, no, not

(02:00:40):
at all. I would definitely liketo see this one run back. I
mean, it's just Nakajima to me. I don't think he's ever going to
get the credit he deserves like theother three guys. M but man like
talk about it complete package. Ithink it's it's that unfortunate, like he

(02:01:02):
was the top guy in Noah whenit was you know, when New Japan
had all has had all of thespotlight, and now Noah's spotlight is for
bad decisions and a lot of thespotlight Noah's kidding right now is not for
positive reasons, it seems. Umbut like not Kajima so much, so

(02:01:26):
much they just look up anything notKajima has done in like the last ten
years, and uh like not Jimaand Go in particular, or um the
new young kid who I fuck becauseI haven't kept up with it religiously,
I'm forgetting his damn name. Ah, it'll come back to me or I'll

(02:01:49):
look it up. But there's there'sa there's a wealth of very very very
good promussing Noah stuff that's the modernmore you know, modern stuff they've gotten
back from the little that I haveseen in recent years. Of Um,
they've got more of the traditional likeKenta, kobashi and massala style heavyweight matches

(02:02:15):
that kind of were absent where thejuniors were on top and it was you
know, Kenta and Mara Fuji isthe top guys. Um, it's it's
just enjoyable. I'm not entirely youknow, invested in the great Muda in
twenty twenty two, but no,uh, you know that's fine. Everybody

(02:02:38):
needs an old savvy name. Butthey do a kick duel here, um
not ge Gino by the way, twenty years old. When this match is
happening, Yeah, and uh yeah, I mean it's it's incredible. The
athleticism from Aboushi, who I thinkI can make the argument that he might

(02:02:58):
be the most athletic professional wrestler thatI've ever seen. Just like his body
balance is so fluid. Um itlooks effortless. Um. You know,
and having seen him in person,it's even more impressive up close. Um.

(02:03:20):
Then you've got you know, someof these kicks and bumps on the
apron um like Na Kajima boots hMarafuji or Kenta on the apron after Marfuji
drops him head first and just yousee Kent's head just snap back. Um.

(02:03:46):
I mean that clearly is just ridiculous. Mary Fuji would end up putting
a submission hold on Kenta. UmSo Abushi decides I'm gonna save my tag
partner and they all forget in thering and do a battle over a suplex
and Marfuji and Nakajima landed on theropes and then they eat double flying knee

(02:04:10):
strikes only to get a two countfrom Kenta. There is the name I
was thinking about. Oh yes, yeah, uh so this this match goes
on. There's a matrix type spotwhere Abushi does a he needs a tag
and he has to duck back tomake the big tag he gets in he

(02:04:38):
hits uh you know, the stffrom Kenta. Um Nakajima breaks up that
pinfall go to sleep his counter sureNaya's countered. Mar Fuji stomps him on
the face, hits a super kick. Kenta Nakajima battle again over kicks,
Naka grab, Nakajima grabs the anklelock Kempta selling the leg but still blocks

(02:05:03):
the springboard attempt with a drop kick. And this crowd goes pop. Yeah.
This is is it much like theNakajima Brian match. This is a
match that knows its audience. Thisis yeah. I mean it's not even

(02:05:25):
the the the trope that I've usedis the playing the hits. This is
just let's just go out there andjust bang one out. That's really good
and then let's see where it goesfrom there. And they go third to
a thirty minute draw. M reallyawesome finishing sequence to the first thirty minute
stands a dragon suplex by Bushi. That's no sold, German stuplex from Nakajima.

(02:05:53):
Guess what, that's no sold. They both get back on their feet.
They start kicking each other. Ibelieve he is coming out of the
rectal or not the rectal regions, but the the groinal regions. I was
trying to think of a better wordthan groineal regions, but pisses is emanating

(02:06:14):
out of their groinal regions. Nakajimathen kicks Aboushi in the face. Yeah,
in the face, yeah, atthe ninety second mark, and Abushi
gets up. He gets in theair for a missile drop kick and the

(02:06:35):
cross on breaker is locked on Nakajimagrabs the ropes, he turns around,
he puts the ankle lock on,and Aboushi holds on just barely until the
thirty minute time limit expires. Andmuch like after somebody wins the Ring of

(02:06:55):
Honor world title, Carrie Silken justteleports into the ring. It's like ding
ding ding yours, Carrie. Um, you're cheap to have five more minutes.
That was basically, Oh, thatwas another moment where it's like,

(02:07:19):
you know, obviously the cultural audiencedifferences in the American audience, as soon
as that happened, they're gonna startchanting five more minutes, um, Whereas
here it's more just match going toa draw happens. There's all the fucking
time when it's like the Young's Lionsmatches ten minute draws on. You know,

(02:07:41):
the opening shows were not an uncommonthing. And fuck, I don't
not get my ritz oreo. Uhoh oh, there's only a thousand and
I clearly you know I shows andones. You can make a ritz Oreo
yourself, I know, but it'sjust I wanted to win the official deal.

(02:08:03):
But yes, so, like youknow, I don't think that's an
expected thing in front of you knowthis Japanese audience or as opposed an American
audience, it's just immediately, orwhy wouldn't we get five more minutes?
They went to a draw. Ofcourse we're supposed to get five more minutes.
Well, like there's none of that. But there's none of that,
will they won't? They bullshit likethe heels, I say, nope,

(02:08:24):
I got paid for thirty minutes.I'm only giving you thirty minutes, like
there is just Nope, We're justgonna go kick each other in the fucking
faces again for another five minutes.Well, and we talked about it on
Conquest Hopkins the great heel work byLethal of just saying no, you're not
getting five minutes. I'm out ofhere and then ruining a title match that's

(02:08:46):
not happening here. No, there'sjust five more minutes of violence party.
So the fact that I have toask you to save the line again,
but here have five more minutes.Yeah, the Homestar Runner reference in case,
No, I have no idea whatthat is, but that should look
it up. It tickled me.Look just look it up. Look up

(02:09:09):
Homestar Runner. Send you a link. Yeah, okay, I uh,
I have some some things to lookat when I go to the gym later.
But yeah, that that's fucking hilarious. So the violence party continues for
five more minutes and only five moreminutes. Um. We got an elbow

(02:09:30):
smash uh exchange between Kenda and Marafuji. Uh. Marfuji is put on his
neck in just the most disgusting waypossible by Kenta. Hilariat um, and
eventually he hits the sheer nie ashbreaks up the pin and Kena catches Marfuji

(02:09:54):
on top. We had a handspringbackflip from Koda Bushi rope run top falcon
arrow by Kenta knock. Kajima makesto say phoenix splash from a booshee,
which looked just as beautiful in twothousand and eight as it does in twenty
twenty two. Mirafuji then starts hittinghis stereo super kicks, one after the

(02:10:18):
other after the other on Kenta.Kenta comes right back with a boot cycuni
kick. All four men are downand overtime expires. We have a thirty
five minute draw. Oh my fuck, yes, give me more, just
more, keep more, five moreminute? Yes, yes by just yeah

(02:10:39):
this is this, this can havea fight Forever chance. Yeah, I
just sent you a link and it'sliterally a minute and thirty second video clips.
So you're just gonna watch it onthe air while I talk about this
match. Yeah, dude, likethis. They're so it's like the Generico
match. Like there's no there's nolike underlying lim work or slow building story.

(02:11:05):
He fin man, I need tobe kicked in and hey, I
can do it. I will doit. Shut it up? Youtt it
up me? He do she havea trophy? I was saving that one

(02:11:33):
part about two seconds ago. Perfecttiming. Here have a trophy. It
tickles me. Graded cartoon in thewhole world have a trophy? That's where

(02:11:56):
I have a trophy? Game fromYes, yes, Um, well maybe
I don't know. Actually I don'tknow. I don't know. If it
did, it wasn't intentional. I'mtrying to think of timing of when Homestar
Runner came in. If it wasbefore after I uh started just yelling I

(02:12:22):
have a trophy. They might theymight not be connected, or it might.
I don't really remember. If ifI did, it wasn't a intentional
thing. Yes, Now now youknow the goal the goodness of Homestar Runner.
Have a have a trophy, sogreat, I'm gonna just do that
from now on, I get newmaterial. Now, uh, you should

(02:12:46):
watch plenty of Homestar Ride. Thenyou can learn about trog door Burnonator like
all right, brakes, you know. But yes, as I was saying,
like this match, like it's it'slike the Generico, the Generico match
where it's just let's accept instead oftwelve minutes or whatever, it's you know,

(02:13:07):
thirty five of just balls to thewall, fucking action and there's the
hard hitting stuff. Is what Ipersonally like. So to me, like
I love Kinnamorrow and Brian, Ithink is the best match quote unquote like

be worthy of an honorable mention. We follow that up with guess what a
suprise? It should have just calledthis show, not the Tokyo Summit,
the AOTF Summit. I thought TokyoSummit was a fast and furious I don't

(02:15:05):
know when Tokyo Drift came out,though, I don't know if that's I
highly doubt that's guy I don't imagine. I can't picture Gabe watching Fast and
the Furious movies. Um, Imean he's spelling. And also I also
have no idea, and I alsohave no idea when that movie came Orald
tip to this show. No,it's a summit. It's a meeting,
you know, like the like theg One Summit, Like it's is that

(02:15:30):
what? It a g One summit? Um the political thing, the political
thing for the climate. Yeah,my head goes right to the wrestling.
Yes, I know, I knowthe client is the climate is fucked?
Yes, uh yeah, with thecoming together of all these different promotions,
it's a summit and it's taking placein Tokyo. That's why. That's why

(02:15:52):
the name and the smatch is thebest example of that because you have Proressing,
Noah, um Ken's Gale Office andddt All in one match. So
this is this is the best matchas an example of that summit idea.
Fair enough. I never really thoughtabout it that way, but yeah,
um well, so from one gOne Summit style match to Ages of the

(02:16:18):
Fall, Tyler firing, Jimmy Jacob'sup for the world title match. Jimmy's
excited. Why do you need fired? Up for a Ring of Honor World
title match. It's the most importanttitle in wrestling. It was, yeah,
right, yeah, yeah, itwas at this point. Yes,
it was now we go, gogo, let's now we go to the

(02:16:43):
next match. That just continues theJapanese always win, yeah obsession that the
message board had. But Brian actuallythe only exception. So I'll provide a
little bit more context on that, especially to the more modern Ring of Honor
era. Was fans got to thepoint where they were viewing the talent as

(02:17:07):
lesser than because the Okada's and Tanahashi'sand you know, Omega and Suzuki and
whoever would come in and they wouldwin every match they were in. So
you go back to the Noah periodand Sazaki and uh Nakajima came in,
and you had Moreashima and Kenta andMarafuji and so on and so forth.

(02:17:37):
Ghoshia Zaki was not winning every matchnow, definitely not winning every match.
Is the win percentage for the foreigntalent higher? Yes? Is it higher
because they come in and they're beingpaid lots of money and there a draw

(02:17:58):
as to why you're buying ticket tothe show. Yes, we're not bringing
in the great mooda to put himunder to to to moth, you know,
like, yes, so starting infucking whining. Yeah, in retrospect
about the fact that the Japanese mustwin. We are bringing in Liger,

(02:18:20):
you know, for for you know, Joe and Keata beat him. We're
evening out for World War two.Term Okay, get over it? Wow,
good lord? You know mar Fujidid not Fujie had four title matches
and lost all of them. Yeah, yeah it was. It was a

(02:18:45):
lost the world title match in theMad Centers two lost two of them.
Yeah, it just its upstairs. When was downstairs now one of those?
Yeah it was it now they're bothupstairs. No, Nigel and Kenta downstairs?

(02:19:09):
Was it? Yep? I thoughtwe had retreated by that point,
not yet the white flag was out, but it just hadn't been waiting Wait
wait wait yeah waved yep. Heshould have thrown the white flag. Roddy
should have thrown the white flag rightaway. Yeah, no, I mean

(02:19:33):
this is I read two are acouple of views that called this match a
squash, Like it's not a squash. Roddy gets all his shit in,
like I think calling it a twelveminute match, a squash where one person
gets all of their shit in iskind of not understanding what it squashes,
and they need to go watch themselvessome fucking nineteen eighty Superstars matches to really
understand what squash means. Um.By the way, or did you see

(02:19:54):
Ernie's thread post he shared of likeall it's like a screenshot of all of
the job guys from like over theyears from w WFTV Facebook. Yeah,
yeah, yeah on Facebook. Ohhere's some he banished me from being that.
That's right. I don't blame him. I'm fine on Facebook. Uh,

(02:20:20):
but it's just it's get It's aglorious look at like seeing you know,
some guys who would go on tolike do stuff and just like the
guys like higher profile stuff, rightthat just the journeyman guys or you know,
seeing a Freddy Joe Floyd pop upin there speaking of completely as of
completely going off the rails in this. But my so, I my kid

(02:20:43):
gat we got him like a wrestlingbook or bought a wrestling but like the
book fair or whatever, and it'slike probably six or seven eight years out
of date in terms of what's inthe content of the w w F book.
But one of the book, oneof the pages is about Barry Horowitz
because it's like a longest losing streaksor longest winning streaks stuff like that.

(02:21:03):
So the fact that my kid isreading about Barry Horrowitz amused me. You
should tell him that the song thatBarry Horwitz came through the ring too,
the play every Jewish Festival embar mitzvahHagia. Yes, but my my,
So my point of all this beingthat this is not a squash no no

(02:21:24):
means what a squash match is?Is it roddy like looking like the future
world champion that he is. Imean, he's in there with fucking power
Warrior. He's in there with, you know, a former world champion,
a former US champion, former USchampion, and he's like, he's in

(02:21:45):
there with somebody who's I think isHe's not on the level of Massawo's,
Kobashi's Kawadas. But I feel likethat next tier down I would get.
I would say the Tawa tier, but I mean I think two now two
is a four? Two is apillar homie. Yeah, it's like the

(02:22:09):
Ogawa Tier, the Oceanario Ogawatier, the the the tier with um, this
would be Annotta Tiergata Yeah yeah, then Negatta tire and that's perfect. Then
the goat attends on Kojima tier.Yeah, now where it's like he's he's

(02:22:31):
a big deal. He's not likethe the the aside from his own promotions
like the one you're building everything around, but you know he's you bring him
in, put him in the domeKabashi. Yeah, you're gonna get You're
selling. You're selling some fucking ticketsand putting some masses in seats. Yeah.

(02:22:54):
And and people are still gonna betalking about that show seventeen years later,
yes, um, which I meanto me like I always looked at
South k as like the guy fromWC again, right, and then Ken's

(02:23:22):
k office opens and he's gonna gote and he's got this, you know,
ginormous chest and he's huge, andI'm like, whoa, he grew
up. Yeah, he looks likean old man now, yeah, except
he was a young in Yeah,he was probably twenty one or twenty two

(02:23:46):
in in like the early nineties, you know when I would have been first
exposed, like ninety two ish ninetythree, Um, so you know,
and he was totally different than like, huh, who's I can't think of
what the hell the guy's name ofthinking of the okay Intensia, thank you.

(02:24:16):
Massira Chono was over there like hein in Uh. Ken's K had
a match on Darcade ninety two maybefor the quote unquote NWA title one version
of it. Um you know, because Flaira was still up north, so

(02:24:37):
like he was a star to me, like you know, a childhood star.
Um. So to see him mixit up in the Ring of honor
the world was was really cool. And to go against Roddy, I thought
was perfect because to me, Roddyis the polar opposite. He's a hard

(02:24:58):
hitter, yes, much like Ken'sK, but Roddy is so fast and
Ken's K is just gonna make Roddypinball and balance and no, like it's
it's not Roddy versus Samoa Joe.It's it's different. And that's kind of
what I was expecting going in waslike a Roddy versus Joe match, But

(02:25:24):
sas K is a kind of astatue here in this match, like in
a good way, like he's he'sstable and and Roddy can do all of
his stuff. And try to hithard with him, and these guys are
just beating a shit out of eachother's chest. Um. I would say,

(02:25:46):
you know, this is like onebig, meaty man slapping a smaller
man. But Roddy is he isjust eating every one of the shops from
Ken's Skate and it's it's unbelievable,like they're they're giving it as good as

(02:26:07):
they're getting and it's just awesome.Um. And it's also too like all
right that this match is definitely yeah, I seventy thirty, you know,
sixty thirty five, it's it's obviouslyKen's Gate dominated, but put it also
in the context of where I thinkwhere they're at as well, like and

(02:26:30):
you know, as we're talking aboutKen's Skate's history and who is Cache,
Like Roddy has wrestled and Dragon Gatea couple of times. He has no
Japanese like resume at this point. So the fact that it's even that like
this is this is you know, there's a perpetually constant this is a showcase

(02:26:54):
for Roddy to like, you know, put him in there the ring with
one of these you a someone ofyou know, the stature of Ken's Kay
and Roddy takes as good as hegets. It's just most of it,
you know, It's as it probablyshould be. Uh know, it's a
Ken's Sky dominated match. But Roddydoes not. I don't think it.
Riddy does not come out of itlooking any worse, No, not at

(02:27:18):
all. In fact, I thinkRoddy actually comes out of it winning by
losing m h in this because hehung in there physically with Sazaki and who
I mean Or's for having them heavyhands. Yeah, I mean those those
stone hands, I you know,go and Sazaki and Eric Stevens and Roddy

(02:27:48):
like just throw them all in afall away and Eddie and Eddie, Eddie
Edwards, Eddie Edward, yes,all those versions of Edward Edward Edwards Eddie's
um like throw them on a fiveway and then like I don't know,
for ships and giggles, throw JackEvans in there to see what happens.

(02:28:11):
I don't know. I don't knowwho the sixth greatest chopper in all the
world is. Um the homie fromAIW Josh Bishop. He's he's got allowed
shot gun that he attaches to hisarm. Um. I think it's a
quarterback thing that Harry's overhand was alwaysone as well. That I y,

(02:28:35):
Yeah, that will be for sure. The left handed overhand chopp Yeah look
beautiful, sounded awful. Oh yeah, but these guys do a twelve eighteen.
Roddy does get death by Roderick andthe sick kick in and that gets

(02:28:56):
a two count Sazaki hits the lariatin the Northern Light's bomb signature finishing move
and gets the win. Um Ken'sk office is come into the States for
glory by honor. So that wasanother legend I got to check off my
bucket list, which was super cool. And after the match is over,

(02:29:18):
there's a mutual showing of respect andthis was probably the first time I recall
seeing Roddy showing more of a humanisticemotional side to him as a because like
there's there's wrestling Roderick Strong, andthen there's like party boy, frat boy

(02:29:43):
wild Roderick Strong that we've come toknow and love, and this was like,
oh the shoot name actually a littlebit a little bit humbled, I
think, yeah, And that thatmoment by Ken's Gay's response to him,
you know at the end, itwas a nice, a nice moment.

(02:30:05):
And then he came to the backand talked about how he carried him to
the match, carried him to agood match and the old match. I'm
kidding, I'm completely kidding, carriedhim Bro, bring me a rock Star
Kansky Blue Blue. It was.It was good stuff. It's not it's
not a blowaway match. You know, you're not getting Joe Kobashi out of

(02:30:26):
this ship, but you know it'sa solid match, entertaining, entertaining enough,
continuing the violence, uh, thecelebration of violence that has been the
last two matches prior to as well. Yeah, a nice little three piecer
uh in the middle of the showhere and then um, you should have
just ended the show now, Yeah, I mean now it guess and no,

(02:30:50):
I'm so. The first thing Iwant to say is is our main
event is the Ring of Honor Worldtitle match, not just McGinnis defending against
Amy Jacobs. And unfortunately, Idon't believe there is any way to address

(02:31:11):
this directly without just kind of talkingabout the elephant in the corner of the
room. In this show is bookendedby both members of Age of the Fall
that made this trip, and itsucks because the opener didn't click as we

(02:31:35):
talked about with Aries and Tyler, and it just didn't seem like it was
something that that audience was familiar with. Now you fast forward to the main
event. You have Nigel, whoNoah fans recognize, but you have Jimmy
Jacobs who's small and has a verygothic style look to him, and he's

(02:32:03):
going to be fighting this bigger, you know, strong style British strong style
heavyweight, and it's kind of amismatch on paper, But then you look
at this card and you look atwhat they're following, and you feel bad

(02:32:24):
for both Nigel and Jimmy. It'svirtually impossible for these two guys, no
matter what kind of match they have, to even just fall into the category
of standout in positioning here, It'sreally like, this match on paper sounds

(02:32:50):
appealing to me, but they're gonnafollow Roddy and Ken's k that tag match
Brian and can Maru. Maybe thiswasn't the show for a Ring of Honor
World title match. It definitely wasnot, um I can tell you that
it was not. This being themain event was not looked upon finally by

(02:33:16):
anyone certain parts of the office.I'm not sorry. Within the office oh
yeah. The one person said itwas embarrassing to have this as the main
event, which I thought was harsh. Um. I think it just now.
You know, at the time too, I was a great agreement that

(02:33:37):
it was not the right match forthis. I think it was looked at
as you know, we're going toJapan for these two shows, and it's
more putting, more like, Idon't know, we this is where you
put Brian and Nigel, but wealready did it the night before, all

(02:34:01):
right, Nigel in areas or Nigelagainst it, Morishima or more Fuji again,
like one of those. This isthe show that can kind of show
where you put the world title matchout there as something special. Maybe they
can't be done any other time.Like this match is perfectly fine in front
of you know, our traditional, our typical audiences, because they're far more

(02:34:26):
invested in this than the audience herewould be. You know, they're more
invested in the age of the falsestory and what's been going on with that,
and as opposed to this crowd whois virtually might as well not be
there. Aside from the last fewminutes when they finally start to get sucked

(02:34:50):
into it. The fact that youhave, you know, also for the
sense of like you know, we'retalking about the DVD buying audience and that
being a product for that Like,Okay, well, in that world,
this is a uber heel champion againsta uber heel contender. You know,

(02:35:11):
there's just not a a there's nono, neither character here is in any
kind of gray area. They areboth the bad guys. Yeah, so
there's not that either. And Ithink part of that too was you know,
I think part of that was also, at least from certain members of
the office was probably also just ageneral like what's what's the That's what I'm

(02:35:35):
looking for the Sizest award? Yes, like that, uh, you know,
looking at you know, at Jimmyis is that you know, the
same person who said it was embarrassingwould have been the one who would have
been talking about it in that regardslike makes sense, you know, I
it it just was the wrong manevent whether even though it made even though

(02:36:01):
it made sense from a story standpoint. You know, Jimmy had beaten Brian,
you know, tapped out Brian. We talked about that when we interviewed
Jimmy about Nigel's promo. In relationto that, kind of bearing Jimmy after
the fact, knowing he's going tohave to wrestle Jimmy. Um. But

(02:36:26):
like so this match had had hada reason for existing, just wrong place,
wrong wrong time. Yeah, andin the match itself, I mean,
they tried really hard. It's justI was not I worn't their fucking
asses off for sure. I wasnot in the mood for this kind of

(02:36:50):
match. After I think, Ithink you kind of had to use the
plunder or in the cheating and thereal heely tactics to level the playing field.
I mean you, I mean,it's not this is not an insulting
way at all, but there's adrastic difference. We are talking a light

(02:37:11):
a light heavyweight versus a true heavyweighthere. Yes, if we're gonna go
into weight gases, six two fiftypound Nigel versus you know, five eleven,
five ten, five nine whatever,Jimmy was about the same height as
you and I, uh, youknow, five seven eight, maybe two

(02:37:33):
hundred small pounds, maybe two hundredpounds at his heaviest at the heaviest,
Which isn't this not that you knowyou think this was the heaviest. No,
No, that's what I'm saying, which is not not okay, saying
at his heaviest I could ever evenvisualize in maybe two hundred pounds legitimately,
Like there's a huge difference, youknow, in the two And I think

(02:37:56):
part of that is also going backto the audience is playing in front of
I've the they're very clear, especiallyin two thousand and eight delineations of weight
classes. You know, in asingles match, it wasn't it wasn't a

(02:38:16):
common thing for the juniors to wrestlethe heavyweights in a singles match. You'd
see it sometimes like Jim, that'sI'm saying, that's I'm saying, like
you would see it like Kents Trialseries for example, where he basically wrestles
nothing, almost nothing but heavyweights. She's you know, but I think it's

(02:38:41):
yeah, it was this head matchhad everything working against it for nothing working
for it. Aside from the actualwork the two guys are putting in anywhere
else this match, they played farbetter, far better. Yeah, I
definitely say if this was in theStates, I think people would have definitely

(02:39:03):
been talking about this one for awhile. It's just after the way this
card was structured, I maybe wouldhave considered putting this to open the show.
Now, I would have finished withsomething while swaps the swaps the two
title matches. It would be myfantasy rebooking Raleoda died. Holy shit,

(02:39:28):
it's unfortunate. Sixty seven years old. That's sad. I don't is it
a Dominican Republic shooting a movie anddied in his sleep is all it says
at this point. Damn. Unfortunately, this match dies at the twenty one

(02:39:50):
minute in two second mark after ajob breaker lariat from Nigel to Jimmy Jacobs.
And to be honest, I meanthese guys got a little bit of
noise from the crowd and a littlebit of physicality from the crowd at the
end after all the weaponry and violenceof a different variety. I don't know

(02:40:18):
this, This is just a it'sa weird main event. I felt really
bad for Jimmy and Nigel for wherethey were placed on the show. Yeah,
I mean this is I hate tolike say all the show ended with
a dud. It didn't but liketo go from the highest of highs and
that tag match to no offect LikeI love Nigel and I love Jimmy and

(02:40:45):
it's a huge drop off and clearlythis crowd needed something too. And you
know, and the night on andRoddy and Ken's k was kind of used
as a buffer. That didn't help. Yeah, people were more into that
than this. M hmm. Ijust yeah, I just saved this match

(02:41:11):
for the States. I don't knowwhen you have done it. I mean
you had time. Nigel's is achamp for another Uh well no, but
I mean you have those months, you have glory by honor, with the
Steelcage Warfare coming, you have youknow, the eventual blowoff with change it

(02:41:33):
will you have the title change it? Driven m when it's the first show
coming back to the States, like, yeah, it's so yeah, maybe
maybe is just flipping Brian and Nigel. Yeah yeah, but then I mean

(02:41:54):
you're gonna do Jimmy Jacobs and Yoshinobukanamorrow on this. No, no,
no, no, no, I'mnot talking flipping Brian. I'm talking flipping
the matches like the JC match goeslast. H No, I'm not fucking
now now, Okay, Yeah,I could get with that. Noah,

(02:42:15):
and they're on a positive roh note. Yeah, but we're just a guy
and you and you and you haveyou have to do. I feel like
you're obligated into a title match becausethey didn't. You know, Gabe did
not book a title match on thefirst night on the dragon Gate portion of
events, which, by the way, I was wrong. Aside from the
main event of Live in Osaka doesshows that weekend, we're also very clearly

(02:42:39):
delineated um of of the Noah Showand the dragon Gate Show. That's uh,
but I mean you had to giveone one of the nights had to
have a title match. Fair Sosince they did Brian and Nigel non titled
the night before, I think, you know, Gabe had to put something

(02:43:00):
of title match, yeah, orelse you're gonna do it, I guess,
And I don't know if maybe theI don't know if maybe the also
the oversaturation of Jimmy on this show, like both in front of the live
audience and if you factor in theDVD portion of it too, there's what
two backstage promos on top of theyou know ten three from all well the

(02:43:22):
ten minute promo on the DVD.But what I'm saying, just in the
timeline of the event, you have, you know, multiple backstage promos,
you know, multiple run ins beforeyou even get to his actual match.
Ye. So there's there's a definitelyoversaturation of of Jimmy on the show before
you can get to the title match. And I think that was kind of
the way of like introducing him tothe audience and kind of trying to give

(02:43:45):
him some credibility heading into the mainevent. But I don't think it worked.
Um. But on the whole, this was a really good show.
Um. I think it's a fineshow with some really good match with it,
with two really exceptional matches. AndI would say like four things or

(02:44:09):
must see. I would throw RoddyKensk the tag kind of Maroon, Danielson
and Ishi Mori and Jennerico's must see. And then if you're not watching any
of those and you want to watchsomething from this, then go watch Nigel
and Jimmy. Yeah. On itstone, um, and imagine that people

(02:44:31):
are making noise the whole time fightsor wherever. Yeah, there you go,
please don't st and you're both theseguys, both these guys. Oh
yeah, that's another fuck that chant. Yeah, none of these guys,
how about that one? None ofthese guys, None of these guys.
I could definitely think of some matchesI would have enchanted that for the show

(02:44:54):
just in general. Yeah, I'vegot several off the top of my head.
Yeah. Um, but that wrapsup Tokyo Summit. Final thoughts on
our two hundredth show partner two hundred. Um, we were about six hours
shy, we should have gone anothersix hours. I don't know. House

(02:45:15):
stretches into another six hours. Butyou know, I gotta run some errands
before I go to my flight toVegas, um, which leaves in three
I have to leave at the airportin three and a half hours. Um.
Yeah, and I need to goto the gym and then I gotta
do real work. Um. Ihave to go get my My gym sells
a little individual, single serving proteinpackets, which are perfect for travel because

(02:45:39):
I never can't take a whole jugof protein on the road of the airplane
too big. Um. GNC justsent me almost GHC GNC rhet sign me
up for like a box every coupleof months that they as send you.

(02:46:00):
This came with like a little miniprotein packets. Yeah, gummy worm powder
protein. So I'm gonna try thatand see what it does. There's no
gncs anywhere near me anymore. Idon't even know where there is one,
it's still in the mall driving thereis no mall store. I have two
malls, there's not one in eithermall. The freestanding stores that as far

(02:46:22):
as they know, we're gone.So I'm vitamin in the world guys.
It's right by my gym anyway.Yeah, so we've got Vitamin Shop here
too, but umatamin different things.Um, but the GNC is the second
most profitable store in the mall.Given the general states of malls, that

(02:46:43):
probably doesn't mean much. Our JDSports is the single largest revenue driver of
any retail like mall store in thestate of ohiole Um, it's nice.
It actually got promoted from finish lineto j D Sports. I don't know
what that means. Do think oflike um Target and then like Super Target

(02:47:09):
just as groceries. Yeah, butlike that's what I'm saying, Like they
have extra stuff now, so good? Yeah they have They have clothes instead
of groceries and then to shoes. All right. So that wraps us up

down Jericho Cruz circa twenty eighteen,UM. So we'll talk about that,
we'll talk about Bird having to comefind me, and we'll talk about my
conversation with Gary Jester that night, which elicited me actually doing the garry and

(02:52:26):
right in front of him and himhaving absolutely no clue what I was talking
about. So survival will finish. It's on this show. Yeah, you
just sources on the shows. Yeah, the f I don't know who Guerrero
Maya Junior is. Um jagaloon theyfound from Mexico. Andrew Everett's on this

(02:52:48):
show. Not good. You knowwho does commentary on this show? Oh,
Rhet Titus instead of Guerrero Mayo Junioror whatever his name is. Rhett
is doing commentary and the Triple aFella or CML or whatever. He's in

(02:53:13):
a match. It's ridiculous. Hangmanversus Colin de Laney and Dalton Castle.
H he has some interesting matches. And this was brought to you by Marijuana.
The favorite product of the Ring ofHonor. Booker at the time,

(02:53:35):

There was a Columbus Toledo one yeah, twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen and
