add free access, and be worthyof an honorable mention. Let's dive
into it. I think it's worthyof an honorable mention. It's quite the
seminal evening in a ring of honorhistory. It is March twenty second,
two thousand and three, and weare in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Fighting
City, at the historic Murphy RecreationCenter, for the Night of Champions two
(04:54):
thousand and three parality presented by Patreondot com. Backslash Honorable And in case
you don't feel like listening to thisshow, you can just look at the
graphic on Jeff's background if you're onPatreon, and the entire results of the
show can be spoiled for you byour wonderful DVD art that depicts Samoa Joe
(05:16):
with the roh not yet world title. Yeah, it's um, this is
this is a. This is theprecursor to Dethroned, where the show title
three years later would be the spoilerfor what happens. This one just flat
out puts the champ with the newthe new Champ with the belt right on
(05:39):
the DVD cover. Well, itwas interesting to me. So I had
ripped this DVD for for us towatch, um, probably a month ago,
and whenever I fucked up the schedule. Yeah, I mean, it's
been on my computer for a whileand I for out what the DVD cover
(06:00):
actually looked like. So I wasthinking it was the red box style,
and we were talking about this beforewe start taping, and just looking at
it, I'm like, why, like, just put both guys and put
the belt in the middle and bedone with it. I swear it was
like maybe Gabe just wanted to scream, Look, we have a new champion
(06:26):
on this one. We have areal like star on our hands. Here
he is with his pacifics on necklace, which I should have worned for today's
episode, but but it's being occupiedand it's other use right now. No,
(06:46):
it's not. Actually don't know whereit is. I think it's in
like a jewelry box or something. But I still have it. But I
mean, at the very least, like Xavier's wearing the Ring of Our World
title That is true, That istrue, but you know, it literally
looks like he's taking it off andJoe is putting it on his shoulder.
(07:08):
Yes, I think this is theDVD is a representation of the transition of
Beautifully two thousand and three photoshop cutson Joe's face that looked like they very
awkwardly tried to remove anyone from thepicture. Uh, the lines are very
(07:28):
hard and awkward. His the waythe belt sits on his shoulder looks very
unnatural. It is cool, Like, look at the old logo though,
the original Ring of Honor logo onthe DVD cover and just kind of that's
not the original logo. It's justa second logos is the original logo?
(07:51):
Times I'm making a joke about thetitle how the title belt never had the
act that the Ring of Honor timetitle belt never had the Ring of Honor
logo on it originally. Yeah,it just had roh where u WF was.
Yes, you know what one ofthe reasons again't play. One of
(08:13):
the reasons that it changed in twothousand and nine eight. Whenever we did
nine ten with Tyler right, Roddywas the first one the new belt.
Yeah, this is the the bestlooking belt ever as far as world title
goes. Um, this is mylike big gold belt. It's it's the
(08:35):
reason it's one of two replica beltsI own, yes, and uh,
the other one being the FTW title. I wish I probably should get that
one next um down the road.Sorry, tedist's feel this is natural.
It's freaky Starks title. Let's let'sall remember. But we are in the
(08:58):
Murphy Rex Center. It is Marchof oh three, so that means commentary
on today's show is by Ray Morrowand Chris Lovey, and I'd like some
clarification on something is Morrow, whetheryou or an Oh, it's m I
believe it was m u r row Morrow, otherwise it'd be Morrow.
(09:22):
Well, so I've seen it printednow multiple times in multiple different variations,
and I was pretty sure it wasan O. But I could be wrong.
But of course that's the gentry andGabe Sapolsky on commentary and or possibly
(09:43):
ex caliber if you're talking about thelow Key versus Jodi Fleish match. Gabe
Sapolski as he goes into hard sellTV mode Alah ex Caliber on Dynamite where
he's rushing through time promos up tothe commercial break. It's fantastic, but
(10:05):
we start off this DVD proper witha Steve Carino promo from a shower in
Japan, except not so. Thispromo is a wonderful example of how things
like Cage Match have changed reality becauseall you have to do is look at
(10:26):
Steve Karino's location on Cage Match onMarch fifteen, two thousand and three,
which is when it says this promowas done the same day as as as
Expect the Unexpected, and it sayshe was in SENDI for zero one.
The only SENDI show around that timewas February twenty eighth of two thousand and
(10:48):
three, and on March fifteenth,Steve was working for ICW in a eaeA.
Now I see W not IWC Ohyeah, I York. Yeah it
was called. The show was calledLord of the Rising Stars or or Land
(11:11):
of the Rising Stars, and it'sSteve and Mikey Whipwreck against the Christopher Street
Connection or no sorry, it's ahandicapped matchup Mikey and the Christopher Street Connection
against Steve oh all that how toput lots of butts and seats. It's
just an interesting but I'm saying that'show things, the existence of things like
cage match change this at all.Because I was just like, oh what,
(11:35):
oh okay, as I said,oh, I wonder what the show
the zero one show? What didyou do that day? And type it
in there's no fucking zero one showin March fifteenth and cast what shock of
shocks the show closing promo? Samething steveson New York. Now Steve was
the PWF or actually probably probably athome in between a pair of PWF shows
(11:58):
and in you know, Potstown,PA for the show. I mean when
with the date of this promo though, yes, the date of the art.
Yeah, the date of expect andexpected he was at i WC I
c W. Sorry, twenty fuckingit either starts with an eye and then
(12:18):
as a CW in some order,or an A and a vowel and then
a W. The alphabet soup ofpro wrestling names. That's where you're not.
There's twenty six letters expect the unexpected. There's twenty six letters in the
alphabet, and for wrestling companies uselike four of them except for a Ring
(12:39):
of Honor. Yea of Honor waslike the exception Ring of Honor and the
like House of Glory like DNA.Yeah. Um, So Karino talks about
in his promol Christopher Daniels and heaccuses Christopher Daniels the fallen Angel from the
prophecy of firing the first stone orcasting the first stone. I guess is
(13:01):
the phrase firing the first shot orfiring the first shot? Yeah, I
guess combining forces there Karina and Danielsis the kind of core issue of the
group versus prophecy feud, which we'llsee a little bit of here on this
show today. Sampling, I guessyou could say that that whole firing the
(13:26):
first shot thing is like the mostrepeated phrase from this time frame until like
February of two thousand and four, because then it becomes the second City States
fired the first shot of the prophecywhen they took Christopher Daniels, which you
can hear all about it. Battlelines are drawn available in the archives,
(13:48):
that's right, but from not todate in Ohio. But like that,
that phrase gets so that phrase getsused for like this year almost as much
as Donal's equal power titles do equalpower, which you know, one of
the things that also equals power accordingto the Special K contingent that's here is
(14:09):
drugs. Yes, drugs are bad, okay. And before the show,
Special Ku in full was trying topeer pressure Jody Fleish the Phoenix into trying
some of their special product. Andhe's got a big match with low Key
this evening, and Jody passes ontheir offer because he wants to fight Lokey
(14:37):
and he wants to make a markin ring of honor. And Jody passes
on, being the first international memberof Special K here to take a hit.
I think he was just, youknow, this is the way of
saying yeah, you know, sorry, you know, this is our make
good for that whole thing with Red. Yeah, we needed to bring him
(15:00):
back, just fix his last thelast thing. Sorry we fucked that one
out, or or really it's hey, we're bringing him back so he can
get his ass kicked for the Redmatch because Key spoiler alert, low Key
is low Key and he beats theship Jody Fleish. But we'll talk about
(15:24):
that one later. We go tothe prophecy they're standing by. This is
before the era of three two oneyready for this promo. Daniels is bragging
about his hot streak of late.He of course, has won the FWA
Heavyweight title from Doug Williams in Englandat an FWA event, and tonight he's
(15:48):
wrestling the Anarchist one on one andthere are a lot of stipulations involved in
this. It is an FWA heavyweighttitle match, a number one contenders trophy
match, and if Doug Williams loses, he can no longer follow the code
of honor and shake hands every Nowthat's already happened. The last time they
(16:08):
had a match, he wasn't allowedto shake hands if he wins, right
back to shake hands, Yes,yes, he can shake hands again,
yes again. But see, thismay not be the era of three two
one, and you're right for thispromo, but it is the era of
I'm just gonna keep recording, andpeople are I'm just gonna keep recording,
(16:30):
and we're talking private even though thecamera's still pointing at us promo yes,
um and because that's where the nextpart of this promo comes in. And
it's Xavier who is the Ring ofHonor World Champion. Uh he talks um,
He says he beat low Key indominant fashion, and he thinks he's
(16:51):
gonna be a pretty easy time withSamoa Joe tonight. Uh, I think
he's poking the bear, but whatdo I know? And then Daniels is
kind of under the impression that thecameras are quote unquote off and Daniels expresses
extreme concern that Xavier is putting thetitle on the line against Samoa Joe and
(17:14):
I just wrote, well, duh, well, he's got a concussion.
He's recovering from a concussion suffered aweek earlier. Another indication of the different
Philamp Pro Wrestling world of two thousandand three, and litly like he has
a concussion. It legit, ithappened a week ago, and it very
clearly happened in the tag title match. But we're gonna put him in there
(17:37):
with Ja Boston Area, I guess, and yeah, yes. Um So
the top five rankings at this point, we've got Samoa Joe number one,
Cmpunk number two, low Key numberthree, Brian Daniels number four, AJ
Styles number five. Um, Ijust think it's interesting. You've got a
(17:59):
lot of good build at the start. I mean, granted, you know
some of the time whatever you wantto call it, like time time warp.
Stuff with dates is a little oddum, and then you know some
stuff just doesn't age well, theconcussion um, the drugs with Special OK,
(18:25):
if only they could get off thosedrugs. I'm gonna be great.
Get off those damn drugs, man. So as I get like I just
watched, uh watch back some oflike the Special K introduction, like they're
very first because it was from HonorInvades Boston, was like the first official
Special K, Like that's who theyare, uh, and them forget like
(18:45):
the Elax was part of the groupto begin with. Then their debut promos
Elax coming out of a dumpster.Yeah, rich kids, rich kid ravers
and they're we're gonna put them inthe ring even though we know they're fucked
up. That's basically what the storylinewas. Jesus. Yeah, well it's
(19:07):
quite amusing. Speaking of Special K, we opened the show with a four
corner survival match. It is MattStriker, BJ Whitmer, Alex Arion from
the Boston Areas and Dixie with hijinksand litling and then false apart I got
(19:30):
you. You froze on my endfor a minute, but you were still
no, no, you were youwere be popping around. Yeah. Um,
year, Now it took you thirteenminutes to listen all of the Special
Game members. So no, Ididn't listen all the Special Game members.
I just I just said hi,Jinks and Lit and then I went.
(19:52):
But no, I mentioned that Whitmerand Striker started out with some good matt
wrestling, some good you know,it's just catch can hold for hold,
um, and that lasted all oflike two minutes, and then the whole
thing just falls apart. Um.Alex Arion is not a fit. Um.
(20:15):
Dixie kind of adds a little bitof color quote unquote to the match,
um, you know, doing someof the special k hijinks silliness.
Um, but this just was theit didn't didn't work. Um. I
(20:36):
mean they went eleven minutes in twentyfour seconds, and it just felt like
these were four guys that didn't knowhow to put together a four way match.
And I would have probably taken Strikerand Arion out and just put BJ
against Dixie and had a way betteropener. Yeah, just because it just
(20:57):
be essentially becomes a screw ramble match. It just eventually there's no remote bothering
of tagging in and out or who'sthe legal man. It just becomes a
a scramble sort of matching. Yeah, it doesn't, um, it doesn't
really work that well. I meanthere's moves. Yeah, BJ throwing out
(21:21):
some exploders is always a fun thingto watch, but on the whole just
kind of like, um, theexploder ninety eight gets to win at eleven
twenty four for BJ and U.I mean, but it doesn't get the
no, it does not get adangerous yet. You know, he hasn't.
(21:45):
BJ hasn't earned the uh, thethe screaming Gabe exploder ninety eight yet
that it will get in later monthswhen he does the move. There was
also it is also the it's thewrist clutch version, yeah, as Gabe
will freak out about even more solater on that in commentary. But because
(22:07):
of the camera angle, you reallycan't tell that it's the risk clutch version.
It's so he just calls a regularexploder instead of the most dangerous that
will come in later months of thesuper excitement of seeing it. The the
the Gabe signature, Yeah should havejust been there was an old WWF T
(22:32):
shirt and they might have been WWat this point for Rick Flair, and
it was just WOO with W anda bunch of os. They're sixteen of
them, so they have to makeit more or less. I have no
idea how many ohs I had theshirt, yeah, because it was before
I realized Claire is Ric Flair, and so I thought Gabe should have sold
(22:56):
a dangerous shirt and it should havejust been that. But with dangerous all
over the front of the shirt,I'd a bought it. Missed opportunity game.
You could open up a pro wrestlingtea store, yeah, or an
n FT either. Speaking of scramblematches, why not have one after we
(23:21):
just had a four corner one thatfelt like one. It's the tag team
scramble match, Quiet Storm and thesat of Joel and Jose Maximo taking on
more of Special K. It's Easy, Deranged and Angel Dust the Future Israel
with the newly turned Mikey Whipwreck.Oh it's so lad is that it comes
(23:44):
out of a promo where Mikey's supposedto like explain why he joined Special K
and turned his back on his studentsand dad datas don't even bother. It's
just like, Yeah, Mikey's herefor some inexplicable reason, like there really
is no and this is the forthe entire like few months Mikey's of Mikey's
(24:07):
existence, Ring of Honor. Itis pointless. Yeah, I mean there's
a whole lot of like crossover herein this little scramble like and we'll talk
about it once we get to theend of the match. But um,
there's a spot I wanted to pickout with the Maximus where they do a
(24:30):
double team ace crusher off the toponto angel dust possibly um where he nearly
divest The timing I think I mightnot. I think I don't know who.
I think it was easy, butuh yeah, the timing of it
is so bad because it's kind oflike they put you know, he's in
(24:52):
a wheel is he's in a wheelbarrowposition and they're coming off with like a
cutter. But the timing is sobad and coming off the ropes that yet
it's like, is he damnit? It just gets a bile driver for it.
Yeah, it's it's it was itshideously ugly. Um. I mean
it's innovative, but it is dangerous. It was that it was that mix
(25:15):
of man if that had worked,it would have been awesome. It could
have been could have been awesome, which kind of defines like two thousand and
two, two thousand and three indiewrestling. Hey, if that had worked,
it would have been awesome. Ifit doesn't work, you're gonna kill
somebody or just gonna make uh youknow the highlight reels of whatever Botcha Mania
was in two thousand and two.Yeah, the text based versions, I
(25:41):
don't yeah, but yeah, itwas. It was. It was not
not good and looked extremely frightening inthe landing. For for one, insane
Dragon or Dixie is he as asa real angeled us? They all have
a million names. I don't know, they're all drug related. Dixie did
(26:04):
not have a million names. Hewas Dixie. No, he was Dixie
everywhere. That was it. Thatwas the only one. YEA. So
obviously the big spot here in thismatch that the people were waiting for and
they pop big on is the stormcradle driver. That's where you do the
(26:25):
storm cradle driver pose. Unless yousay it too storm cradle driver, I
come on, put the base onyour point storm cradle exactly. Um,
So that gets hit on angel dustso u and then Joel he will hit
(26:48):
Izzy with the multiple power bomb spotwith kind of like Jericho used to do,
Wardlow's doing it now, um,and then ends the power bomb symphony
with kind of a I don't knowit was intentional, but the power bombs
symphony Warlos is entirely different. Well, okay, so the repetitive power bombs
(27:15):
uh that are not in any wayindicative of a great Wardlow h and it's
awesome, singulate him Mary. Um, So we've got uh this, I
don't know. Do you call ita gonzo bomb? Is that the proper
name? No? What I callit? Like like I call that up
power bomb? Fucked up power bomb? Because they didn't have it to pick
(27:37):
They didn't have it in them topick him back up, so it was
literally just dropped him. This isridiculous. If it was a gone if
it was intended to be a gonzobomb, I have no idea, but
it certainly to me felt more likeh. I didn't there was nothing left
to actually get him back up forthis last one, so it was get
him up enough enough store I don'tkill him and drop him him. Joel
(28:00):
was blown sky high here and thenand then make a big deal in this
matching commentary of Mikey Whippreck interfering andh you know, breaking a coat of
honor like it. It's fucking specialK. That's what they exist for.
But they sell it so hard.I can't believe Mikey whipp Brea is breaking
(28:21):
the coat of honor because Mikey issuch an honorable character in ECW at the
end with Jerry and the fucking sinisterminister. Yes you know we're not talking
baby face nineteen ninety five, mikeKey whipwreck coming in during of honor,
I'll clean cut and breaking the coatof honor. That's a big deal.
(28:41):
Fucking evil devil worshiping Mikey Whipwreck thatended ec W and is bled into here
breaking the coat of honor with therich kid ravers who would be so damn
good if they could just get offthose damn drugs they over They sell it
so hard Mikey breaking and then ittakes nine hours because it's like Mikey forgot
(29:02):
to get in the ring for hisspot, so special K is holding Paul
Turner for so fucking long so Mikeycan get in the ring and do his
double stunner whipper Snapper Ace Crusher,Diamond Cutter, r k oh stun Gun.
I was gonna wait until then, till the end of this match to
(29:23):
ask the question. But all thishappens in six minutes and twenty one seconds,
and I'll just cover the finish realquick and then I'll ask my Paul
Turner related question. Okay, UmHydro and Slugger Hydros j Lethal they make
their way out, they distract theref. Mikey comes in. He hits
all three of the baby faces withthe whipper snapper, and special Ka makes
(29:45):
the pin. Six twenty one afterthe match, Slugger gives the sat the
body bag and megay the body bagfor your information? Is um the same
issue as uh fuck uses it inWWEM Biggie Big It's yeah the big big
(30:07):
ending yes um. So Mega comesin and he has a stare down with
Slugger. So it's too tall. It's all giant guys from the East Coast
staring at each other here um butthen it led to nothing. Yeah yep
um, And then the camera goesinto the crowd. There's an altercation as
(30:30):
a couple of street thugs, oneof which was the future Julius J Tre
and the Devil's Side of Law smokesand they're kicked out. Not really,
No, just gave just yells atthem, So gavee on camera to give
it that shooty real feel. Yeah, as as we had. Remember we're
(30:53):
only a couple of two shows removedfrom the riot. Oh my god,
m so my. My Paul Turnerrelated questionnaire is, how does Paul Turner
look younger now than he did intwo thousand and three? Paul Turner here
does not look remotely Paul Turner nowbecause Paul Turner here is about one hundred
(31:14):
pounds heavier than Paul Turner now.Yeah, he looks younger now than he
did in two thousand and three becausehe was one hundred pounds heavier here.
I guess I don't know about younger, but yeah, Paul, Paul has
the Benjamin Button disease he and ChrisDaniels, is confirmed by my doctor.
(31:41):
Okay, your big age in reverse. Yeah, yes, yes, I'm
aware of what you're saying. Ithink more. Chris just doesn't age period.
He's encased in amber. And yeah, Paul's just healthier now than he
was, so he looks fit andwells well. Speaking of fit and well,
(32:07):
we go to the next tag teamcontest of the evening, because why
have a singles match? Will youhave book a million people? It's the
Ring Crew Express of Done and Marcostaking on the back Seat Boys of Johnny
Cashmere and Trent Ascid and we knowthe back seats from CZW and I guess
(32:29):
that's where I got to do thethe pose if you're watching on Patreon,
the Zatan Nick Pose. And they'verecently made their way over the Ring of
Honor, and here they are takingon Ring of Honor stalwarts, the Ring
Crew Express. No show without theRinker Express. Its very true, very
true. Um, it's amusing whenthey you know, again, you're just
(32:53):
you're selling the idea of what somethingis, but just anybody knowing the reality
you bring of Honor and then talkingabout them signing during of Honor. It's
two thousand and three. Nobody's fuckingsigning anything except you know, an autograph.
There's no signing name, yeah, yeah, why and and everything behind
(33:15):
with our wage quote on the backthe back seat boys, I think last
nine months, I think, youknow, pretty much my final battle as
a team. There there now theymade they made the second anniversary show as
a team. Yeah, yeahs wasit the Briscoes match? Yes, yes,
(33:37):
yeah, yeah. The Briscos areinexplicably if you recall from us to
talking about the second Anniversary show availablein the archives, the Briscoes were pulled
from the Pure Title the Pure WrestlingTitle Tournament, and uh so they could
have a tag match with the briskwith the back seat boys. Hey,
(33:58):
at the time it was a dreamtag eighteen match for sure. That's two
of the best, all six minutesof it. Yeah, so here here,
Well, if you ever want tosee somebody, they get five twenty
three. They don't need six minutes. I was gonna say more, I
(34:19):
think get like ten minutes. You'vetaken Trent's and portion of the entrance and
him probably you know, walking outwith like an extra twenty five thirty bucks
on his pay day, stuffed inhis shorts by a sort of fans at
ringside, some of whom I rememberbut can't remember names. Um. Yeah,
definitely definitely some familiar faces that stuckaround. Uh a year later when
(34:42):
I started popping up. Yeah, man, they stuck around him, stuck
their hands in his pants. Yeah, none of their good kids were in
my pants. Good good on Trentto I'm gonna leave that one alone.
Good on Trent to make some extramoney on his pay day. Um.
I think the one thing that stoodout about this match to me obviously rink
(35:05):
or expressed bumping machines making everything thebackseats do look credible. I love the
dream sequence in the T gimmick.Um, I'm begging somebody to adopt that
Sonny and Joey as a tag teamtook dream sequence. Um, that's no
longer to be fair. Damn nearevery team on the indies that did some
(35:28):
variation of the dream sequence. Themachine Guns had some variation of the dream
sequence as well, yep, butthey had their own twist. I want
the original dream sequence in the Tgimmick as somebody's finisher on TV today.
Well, it's not really the Tgimmick, but you know, the the
Dark Order had the silver dubbed themeat swing that was the BDK finish was
(35:51):
BDK yeah, BDK finish. Yeah, that's kind of T gimmicky, So
sort of it's close. Um,but it's uh, it's just a cool
looking move, especially like when youhave the setup to the finishing move.
I like that, you know, the the T gimmick worked when it was
(36:15):
people smaller than Trent and Johnny,And uh, i'd tell you that Trent
and Johnny were like five eight fivenine. Yeah, so it wasn't always
the most visually impressive move depending onthe size of the people they were doing
it too. And you're doing itlike I've done Marcos. It's very you
know, saying it like already likethe Special k guys or somebody more.
(36:38):
Yeah, but they're not about tobe busting this move on like Samoa Joo.
No, it's the angle of thedrop Claudia always more impressive to me.
And yeah, Claudio and Chris didthat as a finish amazing guys,
be a choice that would have beena but that would have been a fascinating
(37:00):
match though. Backs pois against theKings and wrestling. Yeah, but I
mean this match is a great show, like just how over done in Marcos
were two by this point, youknow, they'd be a figure. They've
been around, you know, theycame in pretty much a year earlier,
just and uh, they've gotten quiteover by this point. I mean the
(37:22):
music, the fun loving like happyto be here, the murf at ringside,
Yeah, and his beautiful blonde locksand straight out of the eighties.
Uh, Rody look, you knowhigh five and done in Marcos. The
(37:43):
murf was there. I mean, there's just there's something special about those guys
from the early days. It wasone of those. It was it was
a staple that in the grand schemeof things, they weren't main event guys,
top tag team guys, but theymeant something to the audience. And
(38:05):
it's part of what began the processof turning Ring of Honor into the Ring
of Honor that it became at It'syou know, Zenith. It's true.
You know, people truly characters, truly embraced by the fans, not just
because they were, you know, the top tier wrestlers of the day,
(38:28):
but because they were truly endearing charactersand fun. They added a fun during
of honor instead of just serious wrestlingis serious. They were they were fun.
There will be no fun or restthat kind of thing. But they
(38:49):
go five to twenty three here withthe back seats, and after the match,
trying to asset that gets on themicrophone and he tells us that the
back Seat Boys are the best tagteam in the world. And uh,
then the back Seats make their wayout of the ring and up the aisle.
Uh, and looking at those guardrails, my goodness, concrete blocks.
(39:13):
Yeah yeah, I dude, Sowatching back some of the stuff that
I've watched for the book so far, like specifically by the Honor Invade Boston's
fresh in my mind because I justwatched it. Um Paul wanted to get
shoved off the top rope by MichaelShane, and you know from the camera
(39:35):
angle that you're seeing it at helike misses impaling his headd on the post
by like inches and lands right andeven stars Moore's lap. But it's like
the number of times I've watched I'vewatched people come near death experiences with those
guardrails. Uh, It's like, yeah, they collapse much upon impact because
(40:00):
it's just fence held with zip ties. But the concrete bottoms and the you
know, the metal post that wasyou know in them, those things are
far more terrifying than the than themetal signs that could cut you. Like
fuck, yeah, it's it's scaryshit just even looking at it. But
(40:22):
speaking of scary, as Trent Acidand Johnny cashmar and make their way through
the curtain, they happen to runinto a little tag team I like to
call the hit squad Monster Mac andMafia and uh, kind of a bit
of foreshadowing, if you will,so, which I don't think we ever
(40:45):
got. No, it happens onthe next show. It's like the last,
it's like the last. It's squadto match. I think it's close
to the last hit squad match inRing of Honor there. Yeah, I
don't, Okay, I'll take yourword for it better than me. Yeah.
I only know because I also thoughtthe same thing. So I looked
(41:06):
it up, like whether or notthey actually had a match, I really
don't recall them ever crossing paths hisopponents. They did, I'd be curious
to whether it was the next showor do or Die, whether it was
the next show or do or Dieor round robin challenge to like, yes
they do, m but so wouldthis made this recall them again? It's
(41:27):
just because I've watched so much stuffrecently like that how many times that Gabe,
I guess Dug in this case, because he's the one round in the
camera would do these follow them backthrough the curtain promos because buildings all still
lit up, you can still seethem you know there's no adjust like because
that's what the Crowning a Champion promowas after key when the belt, Like,
(41:52):
there's a couple of them through thehistory of bring up Honor that are
this where you just follows somebody intothe curtain, something happens right behind the
curtain, and then eight yal thencut to the next thing. Or in
this case, Doug Williams music juststarts playing and he just turns around and
follows Doug right back out to thering and one continuous one continuous shot.
(42:15):
Yeah, I am an anarchist, hits and Doug is his way to the
ring for the next match, whichis the Frontier Wrestling Alliance title and number
one Contender's Trophy match with the rightsfor Doug Williams to be allowed to shake
hands again on the line. See, then Doug should have his own stipulation
(42:36):
added in there. Well, ifI win, then you have to shake
hands with no hand sanitizer or wipes. I don't really recall hand sanitizer being
a thing in two thousand and three. I'm retroactively adding it in. Do
you realize that, like, ifthe Code of Honor was still an important
(42:57):
thing that like there would be handsanitis tier in the ring for shaking hands,
and like two twenty. I mean, when we do the Ring of
Honor matches, there's codes, theCode of Honors acknowledged for we're a little
bit. Are you really worried abouta fucking handshake, needing hand sanitizer and
a professional wrestling match? I mean, I don't shake hands unless it's like
(43:22):
somebody I know. Are you reallythat concern with a hand to hand contact
for a few seconds in a prowrestling match. No, exactly, it's
just the germophobe in me coming outthat it's like that is yet another reason
(43:45):
why you could not have been involvedin pro wrestling. Inside the ring,
Yes, inside the ring, Ihad no thank you. Um, it's
funny. I had a dream lastnight actually kind of related to this show,
to where I was wrestling Zimboe Joefor the Ring of Honorable title and
(44:07):
he was not wearing the blue andwhite that he wore on this show.
He was wearing red and black. But like we had the match, but
I refused to shake his hands,so he punched me, and then I
woke up and uh I then helike he punched me. I woke up.
(44:28):
I went back to sleep, andI'm I'm asleep and I'm in a
headlock. And he said, whydidn't you shake my hand? I said,
so your dream picked right back up? Were left off? Yeah,
weirdly. And that's like the secondor third time in the last couple of
months that that's happened. It's verystrange. You get a new new brand
(44:49):
of gummies or something. No,Um, I'm still in the same brand
of gummies. I just haven't hada lot of like deep sleep lately.
So um last night, especially afterthe way the last few days have been
for me. Um, I didget a really good night of sleep.
And uh he he's got me ina side headlocket. He said, why
(45:13):
didn't she shake my hand? Isaid, I'm a germaphoe. I'm sure
head is in his armpits. Andthen he then he chuckled and hit me
again. Oh god, it's justlike he took It was like he took
I think his left hand and justswatted down on the top of my head.
Uh. So, thank you. He's trying to he's trying to beat
(45:36):
you into a deep sleep. Beatthe I didn't get really good deep sleep.
That was great. Um, butwe've got ourselves a match here for
the FWA title, the Number oneContenders Trophy which I love so dearly,
and the right to shake hands, which I don't love at all, the
the oh so high quality looking onit, number one Contenders trophy. This
(45:59):
thing had been through the kay Thisthing had been around for later. Where
did it live when when it wasn'tthe show day? I don't know it
was aside from I want to saymaybe two shows that I now one.
Final Battle two thousand and three isprobably the last time I ever saw this
thing when it fell apart in BJ'shands, or was it the first time
(46:22):
BJ won it that it fell apartin his hands? No, no,
wait, hold on when he did? Who who won the field of honor?
J R. Schmad Striker, Sonow there was BJ's hand. It
fell apart in BJ's hands. Ithink when he won the Number one Contenders
Trophy a deck before his honor, and then I think Final Battle three is
(46:44):
the last time I really remember seeingthe thing like intact. But it was
just it lived in the office,in the RFF office. Because that thing
didn't make it to Bristol. Nothing, that thing was gone like out
of existence by the time of theyou know, the full split of the
companies. Um, maybe it shouldhave been a plaque and maybe it should
(47:07):
have been I don't know. Imean, somebody liked trophies. We had
the tag title trophies to start beforewe got the ones from the Dollar store
to replace those tag belts, beforewe got the good tag belts. Uh.
And it could have done metals.Metal could have been ahead of you
(47:27):
know, thirteen years ahead of Codyand got in the ring. Yeah,
there's ring c we did. Acontender's ring. Could have been an actual
fun ring and you could have gottenlike a cheap one off the eBay.
It could have matched with the originaltag titles of the whatever toy store or
(47:50):
wrestling superstore dot com that we gothim off of it. They made my
five ten dollars version of the goldEagle Belt look expensive. Yeah, I
mean there were just some some jankiestuff back in the day. Man.
Yeah, I mean it it was. But it's what made it special because
(48:12):
it felt bigger than and this match, that trophy did not feel bigger than
that trophy felt cheap as fuck.Okay, love cheap as fun, but
being in a match for the numberone Contender's trophy meant something. Yeah,
and I we both said it's anidea we both wish would have persisted and
(48:34):
it would have actually been used alittle more as a as a something to
be defended, because that's one ofthe story points of this is going into
it, Daniel saying if I winthis, or more as he'll win I
win this, that he's just goingto use it as playing defense for Xavier.
Like, if Daniel wins this,he's never gonna cash it in.
He's just gonna keep a death groupon it so no one else can wrestle
(48:58):
Xavier. Title and trophies equal power. Um, but I like this match
feels like a main event match, and it's after literally a bunch of tag
matches and scrambles and stuff that inthe grand scheme of things matters not And
(49:22):
was just man, yeah, thisis this is the Ring of Honor that
I loved this kind of match. It's not the No, the just ring
of honor. Okay, it's thering of honor. I love it's this
Ring of honor, and this isthis is the this is the the Ring
(49:43):
of Honor. No, no,it's not. Don't say the trying to
be grammatically correct here. That wasalways that was always a that was always
a thing. It's not it's notthe Ring of Honor. It's not the
heavyweight title, because those are alwaysuh um directed direct directing, narrative directing
(50:06):
points. As for commentators, it'snot the heavyweight title, it's not the
Ring of honor um. And atthis point it's not the world it's not
a world title either, not yet. Those are always things that commentated the
commentator, and you know, Iguess that's part of the reason why Doug
and Gabe doing it. It's likethey know these things. They know the
(50:28):
things that are you know, theforbidden words, a ring of honor and
the ring of honor lexicon there itis. It is my favorite word.
I didn't even get the using um. So so this one is uh.
Daniels is here with Aliston danger atringside, Williams out to the ring,
(50:53):
and we're often running with this one. I love the start of this match.
Doug just desperately trying to get likea quick pinfall, uh, you
know, catching Daniel's off guard whilehe's you know, kind of still in
the cocky cult leader mode. Um. Before he really gets his I don't
(51:19):
know juice is flowing for a matchor mojo going into the match. I
don't know what word you're looking forthere, but you know what I'm saying,
it's a It's a really fun start. So Daniels quickly takes it out
to the outside to regain his mentalcapacity, his his composure, and once
(51:43):
he gets back into the ring,um he goes right to work on Doug's
arm and Doug's neck. Um.This, uh would eventually lead to Doug
counteracting with work on Christopher Daniel's neckto weaken him for the chaos, which
we know is Doug's signature finishing maneuver, and these guys proceed to have a
(52:07):
match that had way more psychology init than anything we have seen all night.
It is yet another variation to thegreat wrestling matches of the day,
and it was one of those thatmakes me miss Doug Williams. Yeah,
(52:29):
it's been seeing Doug Williams matches becauseme just it's they're so good, like
just both and both I mean bothof them together, but I mean like
Doug is one of those who Ithink because at the time when he was
at the kind of his peak.Um, not. It wasn't in a
(52:52):
time where exposure was so like readilyavailable. You know, there's no uh,
there's no internet streaming service. Yeah, the YouTube there's not. You
know, hundreds and hundreds of matcheson YouTube, there's not. There was.
It was tape trading really to seeDoug stuff. And he's just he's
(53:17):
so good at what he did andso and just such a physical presence as
well, like sh Boy is abrick shit house. And like the most
exposure he ever got, at leastin the States, would have been whatever
the fuck his faction was with Magnuson whatever that I forget what their name
(53:39):
was on British at all, justBritish Remasion. Yeah, but like that
was his biggest exposure. But weall know in the landscape of like TNA
and impact, they're generally not getting, especially on TV, You're not getting
these fifteen twenty minute matches, uh, where he did. Just this is
(53:59):
Doug being fucking awesome and this batchwas that like it was hard hitting with
a strong like narrative through it,as you were mentioned about, like the
network, and it just this isthis is what the kids would call a
banger. Doug Williams is a completewrestler. He has the personality, the
(54:22):
entering skills, the smart psychology,He looks the part. He's a legitimate
tough guy. I first saw Dougin two thousand and one, I do
believe, or maybe like late twothousand, there used to be a program
(54:43):
called MURK I believe, M AM I R c ys, an internet
relay chat where you could download inlike thirty five or forty parts little R
A R files and then you wouldunzip M to to get like a full
hour long footage. You would,Yeah, you'd spend seven days to download
(55:06):
one hour of footage essentially, Yes, hey, kids match watching porn back
then? Yeah, Well I wasdownloading FWA and Clash of Champions and all
sorts of stuff. So I sawDoug and Jodie Flesh before they came the
(55:27):
Ring of Honor, and to me, I mean, I looked at Doug
Williams and I go, how isthis guy not in WWF, Like,
look at it, Jesus Christ LikePaul Burchell was on the show that I
saw. He was another one thatlooked every bit the part that didn't quite
(55:51):
have Doug's wrestling ability. And therewere a couple other you know, outcasts
that just don't know they were thereto be there. Johnny Storm was on
the show as well. We'd seea Ring of Honor over time. But
in terms of Doug, I lookat him as a guy that could have
(56:13):
been, if he lived in theStates, a major centerpiece for Bring of
Honor for as long as he want. Yeah, so would snatched him up
for TNA or whoever. He wasthat good. Yeah, I mean he
made his trip because his first timehere was two thousand. Its first time
(56:36):
over here was two thousand or twothousand one two Iron of coursing I didn't
exist. His first time the Statesis for Sheldon Goldberg's Northeast Championship Wrestler in
New England Championship Wrestling. Oh wow, Yeah he made that was right before
then King of the Indies. Helike, he came in, did some
showhows for Sheldon and then did Kingof the Indies and then came back um
(57:01):
and right before Road to the Title. I think he wrestled like another little
bit of shows for nor for ANYCWand then Road to the title. Well.
The only reason I mentioned Pro WrestlingIron is because when Massalid did this
shows for them, Progressing Iron didn'texist in two thousand and two thousand and
(57:22):
one because yeah, I know,I was just trying to think of what
it was three Maybe that that wasbecause Doug was on that show. Pressing
Iron didn't because even when when theyfirst brought in, when We're Gonna first
brought in like monest you know, that was one of the or Morgan,
I mean, that was one ofthe hype things was, you know,
(57:42):
from Pro Wrestling Iron. So Ithink those first shows were in two thousand
and one, okay, or twothousand and two. I mean, well
maybe two thousand I have to look, but yeah, like two thousand and
one, two thousand two would havebeen the first like Proressing Iron shows.
Yeah, those would have been likeDVDs that you got it f ye or
say I'm Goodie, or we solda couple you know once what did post
(58:05):
Juno for? We sold a coupleof the Pressing Iron shows. Um,
but that was the point where wewere just selling whatever the fuck we get
our hands on. I mean, yeah, well back to this match.
There's some really good stuff here, and this is one of those ones I
would recommend you go out and watch, just because especially if you're a Patreon
(58:28):
subscriber, This show is right therefor the watching, go watch this one.
There's rib work in this match, and that popped me up. Well
no, like for those that don'tdon't know, my dad is presently suffering
(58:49):
from broken ribs. Um, andnot just like fractured ribs, but broken
ribs. And h Gabe says aline in there, uh something about oh
my god, he's going to breakhis ribs and uh, I just I
got a good cackle, um sayingthe ribs popped you. They pop yes,
(59:12):
um, which get well soon dad, Um, no more, no
more falling on boats, boat rampsor whatever. Um. But yeah there's
rib work. Um. There's somereally good like counter wrestling too, where
Doug is like avoiding daniels offense andthen Daniels is avoiding Doug's offense, so
(59:37):
there's kind of a nice exchange there. Um. Doug avoids the iconoclass him
and then hits this awesome looking ddtum he can't get a pin, immediately
gets a two count. Um.Daniels of course calls for the bme.
Uh. Doug pops up, knowingwhat's coming and eventually puts on the cross
(01:00:01):
face Daniels gets the ropes, breaksit up, and then we go into
our finish with Chris Daniels blocking thechaos theory. Williams snatches Daniels like just
picks him up with the swinging cobraclutch, which is awesome, awesome,
(01:00:21):
awesome. Doug then does the bombscare onto the back of the injured neck
of Christopher Daniels, and Daniels getshis foot on the ropes. In the
pinfall. Daniels tries the punch thatdoesn't work. He turns around, Doug
grabs him, rolls him backwards, and then drops him right on his head
(01:00:45):
with the chaos theory for the windbut the number one Contender Trophy, the
FWA World Heavyweight Title and the rightto shake hands again and shakes shakes off
Christopher Daniels for the win at eighteenthirteen. He then shakes Christopher Daniels hand
as Daniels is out cold, andI fucking love this match. It's kind
(01:01:10):
of cool, even at this pointin a fair where a year into the
company's existence and how many outside titleshave been defended. I mean, you've
got the i WA Puerto Rico Intercontinentaltitle on the fucking very first show,
you get you X division title, the defense when AJ is the three way
(01:01:30):
um n WA title. N WAtitle gets defended on the show at something
that was before that, that wasyou know, but that was after this
um oh yeah, Summer of boththree Yeah, um this tighter defense,
(01:01:51):
you know, the on that firstBoston show, you to ANYCW title defense,
Like there's you know, there's there'sall of these other companies that are
at least getting there getting some representationon these shows of their assorted titles,
which is kind of cool. Andthen we do any zero I don't think
we do it. Surprisingly there's nozero defenses, which is kind of surprising.
(01:02:14):
Um, but hey, that wouldhave been nifty, if you know,
instead of missing a show, thusrobbing us of ever seeing Brian versus
Spanky into two out of three fallsmatch. But it was like, Okay,
instead of defending the zero one titlein Japan, you can get defended
on the Ring of Honor show.Instead, it was giving us to Brian
(01:02:36):
versus Spanky two out of three fallsmatch we were robbed of in two thousand
and two, Yes, which wouldhave been a definite Match of the Year
contender. Yeah, but that isthe other thing was going to say is
that it's with this too, Dougand his size. So it's like you
think the thought of a because nowthat Calo Riley uses it to himself,
(01:02:58):
like the knee drop off the toprope as a finish, I love that
fact. I got when when Kyleused that as a finish, it was
kind of got the same like,oh, that's fucking cool, like I
did the first time Aj used hisphenomenal forearm, like it's springboard elbow that
being used as a Finnish. Ienjoy that. But now take that from
(01:03:20):
somebody who is Doug's size. Itis it's a mass of humanity just flying
through the air and dropping in thedude's head like that in itself, you
know, it's like the King Kongknee drop like that in itself is a
fucking finish because of the mass ofthe man dropping the move. Yeah,
(01:03:40):
it's it's just another kind of oneof those like interesting factoids about a guy
that not enough people know of DougWilliams or have seen and been fortunate enough
to see all the stuff that wehave seen of Dougs. Yeah, lost
(01:04:00):
to the stands of time. Youknow, this is this show was nineteen
years ago. Yeah. Uh,Doug Williams is amazing. He's he is
amazing, um and probably one ofthe most underrated workers to never work for
major television promotion in the US.In the US, Yeah, US based
(01:04:24):
major television promotion that aired on Saturdaysat two pm and your local lives adding
addendems to this, but yes,now do Doug is another one of those.
Doug is another one of those peoplethat I hope get some additional exposure
from whatever happens to the Ring ofon our library going forward US. He's
(01:04:45):
one of those many names that Iwould love people too. I hope that
the larger audience gets to experience,um some more of well and Doug is
still active, um just to retirefor a bit. Yeah, he took
a break. Um Congression retired him. I believe wasn't his last match against
crush him? Oh I would likeor was it? Or was it?
Or was that what he was supposedNo, no, no, no,
(01:05:08):
he was supposed the future versus Pastshow. I think maybe that's what I'm
thinking of. Boy, I wouldlove to see that. Oh boy,
oh, you got my my excitement. We actually for a shoot? You

we go from a banger of asingles contest here with by the way,
no outside interference from Alison Danger Nope, very enjoyable. Well did I think
(01:06:15):
we've well defined it? For themost part, the only thing that really
defines the prophecy as heels is thatthey don't shake hands like I think.
That's why it's fair to say thatthis company as a whole only ever had
its first real heel. Didn't comearound until about a month before this,
(01:06:40):
not even a month, two weekssorry, a week before this is when
the company got its first real heel. It expected the unexpected. Yes,
every time I say expect unexpected. You must make the amazing red hand sign.
That's right again, you didn't doit that second time. My hands
were still locked into the pose. But so like, yeah, there's this
(01:07:08):
how they how they won the title. That would be one for one thing,
but for the most part, likea lot of the the existence of
the Prophecy is heels is just basedaround the we don't shake hands, which
I mean, I think it's acreative way to make a heel and Daniels
to still get the baby face goodwrestler pop I guess you could call it.
(01:07:30):
Yeah, well in Chris's case, like great wrestler pops um if we're
being fair. But yeah, it'sinteresting special k. I think our heels
who wrestle like baby faces, they'rejust I don't even know what to call
them. They're they're rich kid,Yeah, I mean, I like,
(01:07:54):
it's a full blown, like fuckingheel that you actually want to hate.
Um punks the first one in likethe company's history once he turns uh in
the Raven with the Raven feud thatstarted two weeks a week before this.
More on that coming soon. Yeah, first we must talk about Samoa,
Joe C. W Anderson and Ronniesimply luscious Stevens who make their way out
(01:08:19):
to the ring and they are JohnJakin if you will with Julius the devil
son in law. Jay Train smokesand Jack Victory jumps. Julius smokes from
behind, aligning himself with the group. They brawl in the crowd and Homicide
runs down. He attacks C WAnderson and I guess this sets up quite
(01:08:45):
the six span tag and Ben Beckyfriend about Becky Baylis. Oh, yeah,
Becky, Becky Bayliss's here too.Rebecca let school and before Special K,
which I very I don't know howshe went from this to Special K,
like I have no recollection, Yes, but I have no recollection of
(01:09:06):
how she went from being with HomicidesCrew to being in Special K. I
feel like she was just in SpecialK one day. There was no real
like bridge between the two. Itwas just now, I've been Special K.
Well, they don't just do drugsduring the wrestling show. They do
them out of the rest, yesshow, they just do drugs and raves
(01:09:29):
in braves, yes, yes, which which yeah, you gotta imagine that
the Special K where well, I'lltalk about it the next one. I'm
I'm gonna bring up my my Hollywoodmagic point of the special k Raves.
So, I guess the one thingI wanted to mention here in particular is
(01:09:49):
Joe's getting a title shot and thenalso having to do double duty in this
sixth van here and thank you Howard, and uh. I cannot think of
like a less interesting assortment of peopleto surround Samoa Joe with. Well,
(01:10:14):
why didn't Michael Shane wrestle? Yeah, like no Michael, But I mean
but he's there, Yeah, noCarino? Well, and who's not there?
That's the thing. Like, soin that in that respect, Steve's
gone from the Anniversary show until abit of friends, different enemies, Like
he's gone for six months. He'snot on any of the shows, which
I think you know, we allknow in hindsight that kind of for affects
(01:10:39):
this whole angle, Like the wholepurpose was Carino and Daniels, um.
But you know, Steve's not therefor whatever reasons. Um. So that
kind of takes away from a Jackvictory being tied into it without Steve's presence.
You know, that's the connective tissuewas Jack Victory and you know the
ECW tie with Steve other than otherthan that, like Jack Victory's presidence is
(01:11:04):
kind of weird. Maybe maybe theyshould have brought in Electra and was a
mouse. The musketeer was Simon Diamonds. People, Oh it wasn't. It
wasn't Jack Victory in with Simon diamondafter Steve, I don't know. Steve's
(01:11:26):
just Steve's there until very end, pretty much the last Victory and Simon Diamond.
I don't know. I don't knowMLW, maybe I don't. Yeah,
but I mean it's so the sixman tag that we're setting up here
(01:11:50):
is homicide and the Hit Squad takingon representing the group Samojo, C w
Anderson and Jack Victory with Ronnie Stephensimply less just at ringside, and I
got it. I mean, Ilove everybody in this match is wrestlers really
(01:12:16):
aside from like two thousand and twoJack Victory and two thousand and two cw
Anderson. But yeah, it's justa cluster fuck of a match. It
was an unnecessary and what's soholeilarious aboutit in the big picture is the insistence
(01:12:39):
of Gabe that, like this doesn'tbelong to Ring of Honor. You know,
this is the outlier for Ring ofHonor. But if you've watched any
show in the last fucking year fromday one, this should happen to Ring
of Honor all the time. Everyshow has some it feels like, has
some sort of match like this, they're bringing the streets to Ring of on
(01:13:00):
or it was you know, thatwas a through line that ultimately paid off
nowhere and then I guess kind ofpops back up when the rott Wilders formed
in JULYBO four. But like, but it's like, you get the Boston
Massacre match, the first Boston show, every fucking match involving the Hit Squad,
(01:13:20):
the Carnage Crew in the natural barncenters prior to you know, Bugaloo
picking XPW. Like, there's somany examples of this happening prior to this
match, and they're still insistent thatthis doesn't belong to Ring of Honor.
Something happens at the fucking time tonight. Ask a real serious, like logic
(01:13:44):
question. Sure, and I knowit's one of my favorite sayings of applying
logic to an a logical situation,But why was nobody punished for the riot?
I mean, if you're applying reallady, if you're trying to sell
it as it really happened. Thenyeah, yep, that it was a
(01:14:05):
shoot was legitimate, Yeah, absolutely, Okay, that was kind of like
the only thing I could think ofduring this match. But not only that,
they're all invited back, they're allallowed in the building, like everybody
who who instigated it, and they'renot a scheduled match, and one of
(01:14:25):
them comes to the ring and bringsa machete. Low Life Louis shows up
the fucking machete at the end ofthe match. So so low Life Louis,
I would like to note, justout of respect to him, from
being a legend of Jersey all prohis two most notorious famous moments in the
Ring of Honor bringing a machete tothe ring and falling over the rail when
(01:14:48):
Homicide wins the Ring of Honor Worldtitle. It's, uh, maybe yeah,
if you applying the idea that, okay, that the riot is a
legitimate shoot, this happened. Whywhy are they even allowed in the building.
Why are these people allowed in thebuilding. Well, it's it's nobody
(01:15:09):
in this match. I'm talking aboutthe people who were you know, the
outside, so as you know, the smokes, Low Life Louie Becky Umu
the DRS, because they can endup coming out there the ship. Like
all of these people who were inHomicide Crew as they're unnamed at the anniversary
(01:15:32):
show, they're all allowed in thebuilding. I mean, I know that's
kind of like what the deal waswith Gabe at the beginning, and you
know, confronting Smokes and Louis andout security coming to them, we just
throw them the fuck out. Ohwait, they just can't da. They
got back in and they they're inthe ring now, like, get them
the fuck out. Oh wait, now Smokes as we will see, is
(01:15:54):
in the backstage fucking area with homicides. What the fun if all of this
is supposed to be legitimate, welland in trying to sell it as a
legitimate, this riot happens, Sowhy the fuck? Yeah your spot?
Even additionally to that, let's saysince some of this talent that's in this
(01:16:15):
match wasn't involved in the riot.Obviously, we know Samo Joe punched a
guy like as hard as humanly possible. We know that it was Homicide's Crew,
we know who the perpetrators are,so to speak, Why And I
really could make a comparison to somethingreally really horrible that has happened in this
(01:16:35):
country. I am not going toout of respect to homicide and wrestling,
but if Homicide's crew set up thisriot on the behest of homicide, why
is homicide allowed here? Well,I mean, I think the the instead
the idea even then though, wasthat Karno instigated it? Okay, remember
like that was the idea at theanniversary show. Was Karino instigated it?
(01:16:58):
Okay, this happened because Karina instigatedit. So so then I really hope
this is not quoted in any nationallycosed hearings that we're applying this kind of
logic. But um point being likehe's still a participant, there was still
violence committed in dangerous situation. CW Anderson, for example, got into
(01:17:19):
a fight with Gabe during Men righthere is yeah, yeah exactly, and
CW wasn't even supposed to be thereand whatever, like yeah, the whole
CW Anderson logic of why he's evenyes, yes, I just I know,
I know, say, speaking ofrandom people at the very beginning of
(01:17:42):
this, I do enjoy the randomfan who seems to be trying to join
me to follow along with him,and he even takes like Alice security a
minute to realize, oh wait, this dude, this bleach blonde fucking hair
is not supposed to be with theseguys, because he was gonna go ramp
along with him and hop in thering. If they would all at him,
sure what a chance he a piece? Yeah piece, you know,
(01:18:08):
we wouldn't come get some bad decisionthat would have been Yeah, yeah,
it was just it was chaos. It was chaos, and yeah, you're
it is definitely applying the the logic. It's right out the fucking window with
any of the if you put itunder these the the even the cheapest of
high school science class microscopes, yeahit logic falls apart in the big picture.
(01:18:33):
So like there's a brawl at thestart of this one, h simply
let's just jumps into the ring. After Becky jumps the rail and she runs
right into homicide and she gets acop killer. So man, a woman
violence check. Yeah. As uncomfortableas ever to say, refers to her
(01:19:00):
as his as Steve's real life girlfriend. Yes, not not pretend girlfriend,
but real life. It was oneof those things where I was like,
yep, I know what I knew. It was one of those I knew
what you're going for, trying toapply very like shooty logic to this.
(01:19:24):
But what it's one of it's oneof those things where it's like, Okay,
well the other girlfriend's not real lifegirlfriends with anybody on these shows.
Um, you know it's it's it'syou're just a girlfriend. But as we
also know, commentary is it's notdone with any kind of editing or it's
(01:19:44):
literally just go because that's how wehave to Also it's yeah, out of
respect to Gabe. Gabe is nota professional broadcaster now now No, and
a lot of this is just goand do it and it comes oncause that's
what whatever comes out, that's what'sgoing on to DVD because I don't have
time to do this again. Yep. So this all ends at seven minutes
and eight seconds when the ref throwsthe match out and smokes and company.
(01:20:12):
Why the ref throws a match outthat I have an issue with because of
the master in a garbage can?Right, So the match is thrown out
because of spinebush and garbage can. It's not a blood feud match as they
like to say, So the codeof monitor technically should apply to this match
because it's not a blood even though, so they throw it out because of
that trash can spot. Okay, fine whatever, hold that thought, wait
(01:20:34):
to get to the next match.I just wrote. This is an utter
mess and it added nothing to thestoryline of anyone here. Thank God.
Joe, what's the belts and getsaway from the ship. Um. We
go to a Doug Williams promo. He's pumped about finally beating Chris Daniels,
(01:20:56):
getting his FWA title back, andhe's looking forward to his upcoming title shot,
which would turn out to be againstSamoa Joe and uh, yeah it
was a banger spoiler alert. Yeah, it's a it's a glorious question mark
of because of commentary whether or notthat's Joe's first Tighter defense or not.
(01:21:18):
So uh. We we go tothe ring again and Buffy is not here.
It's Mace Mendoza's there well, buthe can't participate in said match.
It's but hurts. Yes, hisbutt hurts quote unquote quote unquote the quote
(01:21:41):
to be asked his ass hurts isthe actual quote. According to Mace,
Mace Mendoza and Hot Stuff Fernandez versusthe Carnage crew of loc and de Vito
is our our next match, andboy, it's fine. Everybody works hard
and they do their thing. Itjust it's not anything that's not it doesn't
(01:22:06):
have any weight or cache. Nowmy issue, all right, can I
can I point out one high spotreal quick that I liked? That's fun.
There's one one spot of the matchthat totally did not mean to make
that a ject victory joke, didyou No? Okay no, I had
(01:22:29):
to think about that for a seconduntil you was waiting. I was like,
oh, yeah, I'm sorry,my two thousand and two thousand and
one ECW reference fell on deaf here. That's a that's a good point.
I haven't thought about that in twentytwo years. But okay, yeah,
that was good, very very welldone. Um there's a fez press from
Mace Cat Invasion by the way,on the podcast if you're watching in the
(01:22:50):
video version, Um, so Macedoes a really super high fez press on
Oak and I just fucking lost it. I laughed. It was like a
tea bag. Yeah yeah, yeah, it was. But it was perfect.
(01:23:11):
Yeah, for the character, justthe way he played into it.
It was awesome. But now goto the finish and talk about why this
is such nonsense. Well, becausethe last match ended in a the ref
through it out because of the spinebusteron a garbage can. Why didn't the
ref throw this one out after Locande veto use trash can leads on the
(01:23:32):
outside. M That's all. It'slike the inconsistent logic, which I'm assuming
is pretty much, Ah, thiswasn't the finish, so therefore we're not
gonna call it. But or ora chair shot you know that occurred,
is That's what I'm talking about, the chairshot, not the trash in the
(01:23:53):
chair shot. Okay, I mean, like the chair shot happens on the
outside. So okay, through thematch, you through the last match out
because of you know, a movehappening on an object. This is the
object actually being used as a weapon, and the match continues. But you
know, the assumption is that's notto finish. The rough was given,
so therefore I just would say that, but it's not. But if the
(01:24:18):
rules of ringham on, this isnot. This is not one of those
blood feed matches. Yeah, efreediscretion is reserved for matches of stakes and
importance with their championships on the line, or massive grudge matches, and then
you let things slide. Random tagmatch after intermission not so much. Yeah,
(01:24:41):
this was um, yeah, it'ssix twenty five. Um spike pile
driver on the mace gets the windfor the carnage crew and crowds seemed to
enjoy hot stuff for an end ism um? I think just because he
was drastically different than everybody. Ohit was in the company. Yeah.
(01:25:01):
Um. And now we get toa point where it's like a whole new
show starts. Yeah, absolutely sowelcome to Night of Champions two thousand and
three. Two electric boogaloo. Peopleneed to know, let's not use people
need a new joke because that isthe default night. No, how about
(01:25:23):
just part du part due. Itmakes it sounds dumb. No, it's
fucking French for two part du umthat part duh part. I wish I
remembered how to count in Hebrew becauseI would make it like that. It
probably sounds like, uh, yeah, I think it. I think it
(01:25:45):
actually does. Yeah. When you'veyou differ, you sounds very flemy.
Uh stam is two. It's agod dime show. It's one two,
three man. Yeah, it mustbe very difficult to have a lisp and
(01:26:08):
speak Hebrew. Because that was alot of Oh my god, you have
no idea. We had a rabbiwith a list. Yeah, I mean
that's a lot of like just thewords you said are a lot of um.
Yeah, God, what the hellwas his name? He was only
there for like a couple of years. David uh Roan David, Yeah,
(01:26:30):
Rabbi ron Um. He was ourrabbi for like two years, and he
had a lisp and it used todrive people insane. Um. But nice
guy. Uh. Can't say thesame by his wife. She was very
mean. Um. She's a preschooland a Hebrew school teacher. Very mean,
lady, uh hire world title aretag team titles on the line here
(01:26:56):
aj Styles and the Amazing Red managedby Alexis Larie taking on who else.
It's a Ring of Honor tag titlematch. It's the Briscoes, Jay and
Mark No no, no, nono. At this point you can't say
who else? Is their very firsttime as a tag team and Ring of
honor. This is a historic Wewe have done two hundred and two episodes
(01:27:18):
of this here podcast. Yeah, would you say at least ninety percent of
the tag team title match, probablyincluding Mark. This this this is a
historic show. This is their firsttime wrestling as a tag team on a
Ring of Honor show. Mark hasfinally turned eighteen. Frank Talent has finally
(01:27:39):
given him the whole pass its bestin peace, Frank Talent. Yes,
yes, the list one percent legitimatething, Like I've I read the fucking
code, you know, in inbook research. You know, I read
the PA Athletic Commissions bullshit because ofhow it all wraps up with czw Dring
(01:28:02):
of Honor and the Briscoes and thatshit show of two thousand and two.
But yeah, getting a mention inthe book. Yes, yeah, he's
already gotten once. He's already gottenone. Yeah, guy, May he
rest in peace? Yeah? Ithink I mentioned him for the first time
(01:28:23):
in reference to Spain Hey bleeding inthe match with Jay Brisco and now Frank
probably could easily stop the match, considering that's one of the things in the
PA guidelines is a relation of bloodum select But like, this is historic
for that in that venue. Man, It's a company has been around for
a year, and you think ofthe Briscos is such like a fuck the
foundation, and they are. Butthis is their first match ever as a
(01:28:46):
tag team for the company. Anddepending on how why not and in depending
on how you look at it.I mean, Jay and Mark are involved
in the very first official quote unquoteRing of Honor match, um, with
Mark seconding Jay against Amazing Red.So there's some connective tissue all the way
(01:29:11):
back to the Air of Honor beginsin this match, and uh, it's
it's a pretty cool, um littlehistorical note on this show, amongst so
many other things that we've yet totalk about tonight. But um, this
is, in my opinion, Ithink this is the best of the three
(01:29:32):
matches that they had together. Iagree. And we've done this, We've
done two of the three. Yeah, this is this is the third.
You've done the first and the last. Ben because or what have we done?
Would we have now done all threeof them? We did? We've
done epic encounter, this epic encounterdeath for his honor? Okay, so
yeah, yeah, because and they'rethey're progressive. The first one is the
(01:29:56):
best one. That the last oneis in large part due to how fucked
up Red Knee was by that point, but like, yeah, the last
one is the worst one. Yeah, And this is like all effort AJ
styles and the finish man is ita is it AJ or a dot J
dot? Because only on a Ringof Honor DVDs is it ever a dot
(01:30:21):
J dot. It's supposed to justa j Alan Jones. I know,
got um uncle Alan. I guessyou could go with that one too,
But yeah, I mean, thisis one of those matches where you know,
it starts out so perfect because Jayand Red uh face off to start
(01:30:45):
the match. So they've had battlesover the last you know year in a
month, and they're starting this historictag title match off. Um AJ gets
a really hot tag right at theopen and he drops Uh Mark to the
mat. They do a wrestling sequenceand then he just drops Mark right on
(01:31:10):
his head. Yeah, welcome, welcome to Philadelphia. Enjoy your your broken
heads. And it's an intensity,there's a there's a just there's an intensity
to this match too, like fora first time meeting between a makeshift fucking
team that wasn't supposed to be becausesupposed to be Paul one didn't not amazing
(01:31:30):
Rad who was TV with Ajo,but Paul in his sinuses then you know
didn't make the show. So Red, the impromptu partner a Jane Red beat
them, beat the knock Tag TeamChampions of Christopher Dane was an Xavier,
but hey, prophecy he can defendthe belts, they enact the free bird
rule or that's right, stupid shit. I don't know. My assumption,
(01:31:57):
I've mentioned it before was just alwaysthat have been Morgans, So Xavier's got
to come in here to take theball. So yeah, it's this makeshift
team of AJ and Red and theBriscoe is teaming for the very first time
in the company, and there's justa fucking intensity and there's a chemistry between
(01:32:20):
them and this match that I justdon't think they recapture any other two matches
quite as much. Um. Ithink there's also a really interesting spot from
Mark Um and it's really just onesingular move, uh that he does.
He blind tags in it's a missiledrop kick, and then does this the
(01:32:45):
gut wrench knee drop combination gut wrenchsuplex knee drop that he still does twenty
two years into his career. Um. I just think that I don't know
whether it's like a comfort a comfortmechanism for some people that they just do
(01:33:06):
every one thing like their entire career. It's like a staple of their their
thing or they really like it,or people have like there's there's signature.
I mean everybody obviously, I meantalking about the styles clash here twenty years
later, are just still doing South. It's not but it's there. It's
like signature sequences. You know,Joe still does the fucking power bomb.
(01:33:31):
Oh they kick out and I turnit into an STF for a cross space
or into a submission. You know, it's it's still that's still a part
of Joe's repertoire. You know,Punk still has you know, he's still
well more came on later, butlike when he started w W of him
doing the essentially the Kenta sequence. You know everybody, you know, Brian
(01:33:55):
would run up the turn bucco, the tiger mask into the you know duck
one, you know, running elbowor you know they're flying elbow finding or
mass. But there everybody has theirlike signature sequences that kind of you know
them and they're they're they're a familiarthing. So fans can also be like,
(01:34:17):
Okay, they know what they're goingfor. So if somebody counters it
or blocks it, you know,it's a it's a it's a call to
go back to spot it's a familiarspot that's ingrained in the fans minds as
that wrestler does this signature sequence. So when it gets countered, reversed,
blocked, it studied tapes. Yeah, the signature spot. It's just it's
(01:34:42):
cool to see see it done, you know, so many years later and
it still look exactly the same asit did nineteen years ago. Um.
But this this match just continues actionwise. It's a constant like stream of
consci justousness of moves. Oh yeah, it's this is like it's just a
(01:35:04):
it is NonStop and and it iswhere where the Daniels and Doug match was
like this technical, you know, very cerebral match that just I was on
a number level. This is thetag team insanity of just move move move,
(01:35:25):
move, move, move, movemove like go go, go,
go go, with some serious heatto it for a match that had no
issue aside from who being champion. It's it's an incredibly um innovative tag match
(01:35:46):
as well in all the ways thatyou know, I think you see from
some of the high flying tag teamsof the modern era, like the Bucks,
where you know they're constantly involving, evolving new combinations and move twists.
(01:36:08):
I guess you could say a PrivateParty is a team that does that as
well. Um the top flight whenthey're both healthy. I mean, it's
just a constant state of change andcreativity and athleticism. UM. I do
(01:36:29):
think I'd go back to the onestaple of this match that has kind of
remained consistent, and that is thehard hitting style of Jay Briscoe as he
basically decapitates Red with a lariat atone point. Um. I don't know
if Red had suffered a broken jawor bruised face or what the good lord.
(01:36:54):
Um, there is a hammerlock suplexthat that Mark eats. Red and
Mark both go for shining wizards offof their partners, but they hit each
other in mid air, which Ithought was really cool. Styles comes in,
he hits the phenomenal double DDT andJay Driller, and then the Styles
(01:37:19):
clash is blocked. We get thescrewdriver on Aju and he takes a crazy
bump on that, just like thatbouncy bump. Um. It's not quite
RVD out of the Tommy Dreamer piledriver, which I'm still trying to figure
out how that was done, butit's just like yeah, yeah, that's
(01:37:44):
amazing. Next strength to get, next steroids or something. I don't know.
Um, Red heads to the toprope looking for what we think is
the Red star Press, but no, it is the top rope code Red
into a leap frog super runa on. Mar Aj then catches Mark with the
styles clash, and of course MarkBriscoe in two thousand and three eats the
(01:38:08):
finfall from the styles clash read andAJ retain And yes the finish does sound
like a bunch of jarbold words ina form, but it is a legitimate
thing that happened and you need togo see it. The visual of AJ
catching him and not like the stylesclash is just even ninth year we are
(01:38:33):
nineteen years later, is still suchan impressive thing. Well, and this
is one of those matches where youknow the like last ten to fifteen seconds
of the match by memory just becauseit was b roll material. Oh absolutely
absolutely it was. I I justlike anxiously waiting for the finish again,
(01:38:58):
like to see it again, becausebeen a while so I can't remember less
when I watched this match. Sobut man, yeah, it's uh that
that is a in the in theyou know, that is a giftable moment
if this was a match happening now, and I hope somebody has gifted sense
because it's it's just such a superfucking cool finish. So it is up
(01:39:23):
there where I saw somebody recently regiftthat Briscoes uh Sagora Marfuji match that you
and I have talked about and weshared as a non our WACH Match of
the Week on YouTube. Um,I sell somebody recently regift that finish,
and this is up there with that, Like it just it's so fucking cool.
Yeah, and it's so different too, which is just the kind of
(01:39:45):
the story of Ring of Honor ishow many ways can we reinvent the Wheel
International Wrestling? And and it's aJ and Red who don't who aren't a
tag team, They don't have tagteam moves, you know, they don't
have a but they found a wayto incorporate two things that they do separately
into a tag team kind of spotthe finish why and then watching the crowds
(01:40:13):
reaction behind them, because that's that'sone really cool thing about these old shows
in the Murphy Reck is that youcan you can almost watch you can watch
the crowds momentum of their ups anddowns and seeing their reaction before Aj even
drops Mark down in like fully intothe when he first catches Mark and you
(01:40:38):
see the crowd like, holy shit, hands on the head, on their
feet, just that that part evenhappened before he does the full blown styles
clash. It's like while watching thecrowd is super cool too. This crowd
on this show has been given alot of mediocre at best stuff, but
they've also been given so far twoincredibly strong matches that are incredibly different.
(01:41:04):
And that's one they I will say, uh one with the with the Murphy
ret crowd. And this is youknow, as I say this again as
having watched a lot of two thousandand two stuff, you know, as
so the as I'm writing like, they're given a lot of dog shit and
(01:41:25):
they respond to it. I shouldn'tsay dog shit, because it's not all.
They're given a lot of subpar stuff, mediocre, average stuff, but
they treat a lot of it,almost all of it, like they're watching
some fucking you know, current anglematches. They yea even though even the
worst of what, even the worst, the Ring of Honor in the Murphy
(01:41:46):
Wreck building gets love. It's suchan interesting thing to watch that they how
they respond to everything, like they'rethere for almost everything. Well. It
also, I think one of thebig reasons I really want to go visit
this building so badly the next timeI'm out your way, just because you're
(01:42:10):
fucking full gear twenty nineteen chair outof my ship. That's true. Um.
And obviously I want to meet Catalinaand ce Nate and Mary, but
also you, um, I knowI'm also also featuring you. Um,
but I uh, I kind ofwant to see if you can feel that
(01:42:35):
building. Like We've been in alot of empty buildings over the years,
and there is a feel to them. There's a life, there's um like
an energy to the building. Mhmm. And even the arenas, I would
(01:42:56):
say, you know, that's verytrue. You you, It's like you
can feel who's been in there before. And I really want to see if
the Murphy rec Center kind of givesthat goose bumpy feel. I would be
very curious to see. Um.I definitely got it when I went to
(01:43:16):
the arena for the first time, and that's probably the most closely you know,
associated building with the Murphy Wreck.Man. Mine, I've told you
for mine was the Manhattan Center.Yeah, and it's that that feeling was
there. Um. The Hammerstein Ithink was a little less than the Murphy
(01:43:42):
Wreck or than the upstairs at theManhattan Center for me. Um. And
I don't know why. I thinkit was just the idea of like,
oh, pan Heatant Center. Iwonder if anybody goes into the Frontier field
House and it's like like, oh, this is where Joe punk Too happened.
Like I mean, I the lasttime I was in Chicago for early
(01:44:08):
age she was. It doesn't countbecause you lived him. I'm talking about
people who were like us that Ididn't go to fucking raw in the Manhattan
Center. I didn't go to saidthe arena. I told you, I
walked in the first time the cageat the five and it's like there's a
shittle. I didn't get those magicvibes from the arena like you did.
Um. But the people who didn'texperience the events in that building in real
(01:44:30):
time, you know, if they, if somebody of Ring of Honor fandom
would walk into the Frontier field Houseand have that vibe or walk into um
camics not there anymore, but thefairgrounds, the Government Fairground sounds are,
you know, go into the Idon't know, the fucking case Gymnasium and
(01:44:55):
b used campus and be like,uh, you know this is where Kevin
and Generica won the tag belts ofthe first I'm like the ring them honor
fans who didn't get to experience thosethings live but only like on tape or
whatever did they get those But Iwas never in the Murphy Wreck. I
was never, you know, solike I feel like that I was.
(01:45:16):
I'm saying, like, you can'tgo on, it's someone who's been in
the Frontier field House in real time, you know. But really I did
get a special feeling being in theFrontier field House the last time I was
there for that Global War show becauseof all the things that have happened inside
of that place, and you experiencedalmost all of them live. Yeah,
(01:45:41):
sixties seventy percent probably. Yeah.I'm looking at it more from the perspective
of building you were never in forwhy it hadn't any That's like I think
if I would have been at likethe Forum something not the same though,
(01:46:04):
because because it's all, yeah, everything in there is a concert venually it
which is super cool. It's alot of really cool pictures up there,
and like, I don't know, there's something cool about seeing Rick Rubin and
like him standing next to pictures andme just being like, hey, I
wonder how many of those hughes reallyhe's connected to UM. But like you
(01:46:25):
know, I went in there hopingthere was Lakers shit. I'm saying this
as I'm wearing our Lakers themed aE W logo shirt that we had the
purple and gold one, But likeI was hoping for this Lakers shit,
and then I was explained like,no, the Clippers actually owned this building.
I was like, well, that'skind of a hilarious fuck you from
the shitty LA franchise to the goodLA franchise. The building that is famous,
(01:46:48):
and there's the only remote thing thatis like lake is a in the
collection of stuff. There is apicture of Magic Johnson and some of the
celebratory moments, but there there's verylittle sports related stuff in the forum.
It's just, uh, it's interestingbecause you know, even at like quicken
(01:47:13):
loand or well Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse nowthey've done a total revamp of the building
inside to outside, and it doesnot feel like the place that I grew
up going to Cavs games and watchinga young Lebron James play or the Cavs
(01:47:34):
championship team playing. And even thoughthat's you know, six years ago,
yes, six years ago, itdoesn't feel like the same place. Even
looking at the banner doesn't feel thesame. But it's there is something about
a building in the Murphy rec Centeris a perfect example where whether it's acoustics
(01:47:59):
or a look or the color orwhere the cameras were, that makes it
feel something. Yeah, it's atsome point. Maybe I'll go find it
and uh, remind me if wehave time when we when we wrap,
to tell you, tell you somethingarena related, off off off air.
(01:48:21):
Okay, um, I'll make anote. Um, but before I make
historical, historical, historically related.Nothing, nothing modern or present day historically
related to you. No, no, no, I'm just gonna make a
note so I remember. Uh butyes, so, but probably I would
put this as, probably to date, a year into the company's existence,
(01:48:45):
the best tag match the company hasseen. Yes, I don't even think
Revenge Revenge in the Prophecy. It'sbeen a long time since I've watched that
show. Like that tag match wasreally good. From what I recall,
I remember, like I believe thetitle change match here was pretty good,
(01:49:06):
even with the Xavier's concussion the weekbefore. But like this match I think
kind of blows away any other tagmatch that happened in the first year of
the company's history, and probably wouldprobably, I mean, there's so much
to choose from if you get intomore of the wealth of the tag team
(01:49:28):
tag team scenior Ring of Bonnor,But like this, I don't know.
I put this this might be likean all a top ten or of all
time tag matches in the company's history, like I would say, so,
I just it's hard to rank,I think because not just for the innering,
(01:49:50):
but also the historical significance of thefirst time the Risk was team in
the company. Take that on topof the quality of the inn ring work,
and I think it makes it oneof the best, one of the
most significant and tag matches in thecompany's history. I think it's fair.
(01:50:13):
Um. I also, you knowgrand scheme of things, if we're doing
a ranking system, you know, let's say top five or top ten,
twenty years over five plus shows, six hundred with TV something, I mean,
they had five hundred episodes just ofSinclair TV. Okay, yeah,
(01:50:38):
some of that is just you knowrecycled right well, and recycled content of
like the road rages they would dolike take a paper review of Breakdown into
three episodes of TV, therefore, you know, making any replay value worthless,
um or you know clip job showsstuff like that, you know,
year end away shows. Regardless, there's five plus episodes of Sinclair TV.
(01:51:01):
We did one hundred episodes of HDNAT, most of which is original material.
I mean, I'm factor in theDVD slash you know VOD events that
have been done like yeah, whatwhatever? The grand total is a ring
of honors shows. Um, thisis this tag match is pretty significant nigh
(01:51:28):
up there? Yeah, and especiallyfor the Briscoes. Um. So we
go from from an incredible tag matchto our very first exciting, high flying
singles match of the evening. Yeahyeah, the second singles match of the
evening too. Yes, your ninematches deep and this is just the second
(01:51:51):
singles match. Um it is lowKey taking on the Phoenix Joe Fish.
Mum. I guess the first thingI wanted to point out here is that
low Key is looking to teach specialcase and manners. He did so over
(01:52:13):
it expecting unexpected, and Gabe isin full blown it's caliber rundown. The
next two weeks of television shows modeabout Jodie Fleish not doing the drugs of
special k, what these damn kidscould be if they just got off the
goddamn drugs, And at the endof it, he just goes, yeah,
(01:52:40):
I think and I forgot to makea note of it. It was
this match, but I think thismatch two is one of the ones where
they run down the Code of Honor, And my thought process was, man,
they really just should have had aCode of Honor graphic that started every
show, like every show began withyou pit play on the menu screen and
it's here's the Code of Honor graphicof what it means. That way,
(01:53:01):
they don't have to force feed itinto a nine matches deep. We're finally
rattling off with the Code of Honoris for our first time viewers who didn't
know, Yeah, it's should Weshould have just had a graphic that said
it right at the top of thehour, you know, well, or
you could have had like a runningticker across the bottom of the screen with
(01:53:25):
it that uh well, I meanyou could have done that with the L
I'll pretend you said eighteen video phonenumber, but the it was verbal because
a lot of these matches were beingindividualized and put on Khaza and Morpheus.
(01:53:45):
Is that the other one, limeWire? Lime Wire at the bootlegging services?
Yeah? Yeah, Um, sothis is this is a literal dream
match at the time, Yes,like the epitome of dream matches. Yeah.
And the only time it ever happenedis it singles. It's um.
(01:54:11):
It's one of those matches that Ireally didn't have a clear memory of,
so I was curious to watch itback, and I actually went and rewatched
it a couple of days ago asecond time because it had been a while
since I watched this um for thepod, and I gotta say, like,
(01:54:32):
it doesn't quite go to where Ithought it would go, but it's
it's it's good enough, it's it'suh, it's it's a damn good match.
And then I think, there,it's you know that feel of that
old styles make fights mentality, Likeyou have a very good balance of what
(01:54:58):
Fly springs with the table and lowKey brings to the table, you know,
as low Key being essentially the prototypeof what the Ring of Honor style
is at this point, and thenFlish is like the high Flyer of sorts.
It's, you know, got thestriker on the one side, the
high flyer and the other and they'rethey're the The way they gel together is
(01:55:20):
just really good. In Fleish, even though he's only been around a little
bit, has a really strong cachetwith the fans just because he does cool
shit between that seven twenty DDT injust the match he had with Jodie Flish,
I mean with Johnny Storm, eventhough it is for all intents and
(01:55:41):
purposes and everything I've read, it'sthe worst of their singles matches against each
other, like the three that theyhad in two thousand and two, like
all in the same like six weekperiod, because they did their first match
for Northeast Championship Wrestling. The bestof the best match is kind of held
up as the best singles match againsteach other in that loop. And then
(01:56:02):
that first one you ring him onor was kind of like this is the
worst one they did. Um,But it's like he's got he's built up
enough of a cachet where the fanslike, like they enjoy him, they
want to see more of him, even though he's now with special K like
it doesn't matter, Like he stilldoes really cool shit. They're gonna cheer
him. He doesn't do anything tomake the fans hate him or dislike him.
(01:56:25):
No, and it's not even inthat I do cool shit. And
then I felt like a cocky, arrogant asshole. He just this is this
is two this is a this isa baby Face versus baby Face match.
Yeah, And I mean it's oneof those things too, where you see
these two guys do this incredible lookingstuff with the force behind Loki's offense and
(01:56:51):
the flashiness behind everything Jodie Feisch does. I think I went into this with
unfair X difectations in hindsight, ifthat makes any sense. Um, it
was okay. There were a couplethings that stood out to me, the
(01:57:12):
quote unquote Shooting Star pile whatever, which I watched it like three times just
trying to figure out how because it'sa fucking botch like he too. It's
it's definitely intended to be like aShooting Star body press, but Key's too
close, so Fleish goes behind him, and I just kept watching it back,
(01:57:34):
like how they fuck did they manageto turn it? Because he lands
on keys back, but they managedto then rotate to the side to make
it a pile driver. So itisn't just this fucked up move. They
recovered it into something that could probablynever be replicated, and from anything I've
(01:57:58):
read, hasn't It wasn't something Fleshever did again, which further lends the
idea that this is just some abotch that they turned into something, which
is, you know, a signof some Seriously, I don't know what
to call it because there I don'tphysically, I can't physically imagine how it
was that instantaneously he lands on keysback and then they just kind of just
(01:58:21):
doing a they go backwards the well, no, he lands on his side,
he lands on keys back, andthen they rotate to the side like
a cart wheel to do the pileto turn it into a bow driver.
Like all right, cool, it'sjust one of those how the fuck did
you correct into that? I don'tknow. It's one of those things that
(01:58:43):
you watched it three times. Iwatched it a couple and I was just
like the fuck yeah, and andand you know, my the program I
used to watch these ISO files,it's not we allowed for rewinding and fast
forwarding, so just picking on thetimeline hoping I get into the right spots.
So it really needs like a secondby a second adaptation to rewind.
(01:59:11):
I feel about half the wrestling streamingsites too fast forward. Why can't skip
the chapters? Why do I haveto start the show at the beginning when
I left off three hours into it? God damn it, I don't want
to watch this anything I know.I don't want to watch all this again.
Or I can fast forward in thirtysecond increments. I don't know.
(01:59:35):
Maybe it's just the interface between mymy fire TV and i WTV, but
God damn it, I just wantto skip ahead, Jerry anyway instead of
a lot of the show. Ifeel like, Um, I had a
lot of ranting today. It's goodcontent. Yeah, the people, Um
(01:59:59):
what I do? What? I'mRickishi in nineteen ninety nine or two thousand?
Austin got hit in nineteen ninety nine. But when did he say I
did it for the Rocket? Ohthat was in two thousand, Okay,
but the act I was thinking nineninety Yeah, Survivor series ninety nine,
but I was thinking ninety eight. But that was deadly game. Yeah,
(02:00:23):
it's just a deadly game, godlythat would play with our lives and our
laz a Jeff saying that just mewho he's fucking Kawata kicking him on the
top of rope and they damn theirfall to their deaths trying to do the
key crusher off its top rope. That was terrifying to watch. That was
(02:00:48):
that deserved a dangerous But I guessdangerous didn't exist yet. Um, when
was the first dangerous was? Ithink it was Trevor and Mack. I
think it was Jen next. Oh, dangerous? Was dangerous existed before Gen
Next? As Trevor? When thefirst dangerous was Exploder through the table?
(02:01:12):
I don't know. The can counterliterally going to masters right now, will
know I have an answer before we'redone recording. Um, but I the
one like the title crush in thecorner was awesome. Um. Jodi Fleish
even like did his own set ofstiff kicking. Um. He hit two
(02:01:39):
really nice looking in ziguri's and theyhad a nice chop exchange right before that.
Um, low key counters a satelliteheads scissors by slamming Jody Fleish's head
directly into the turnbuckle. Then thetitle crush Fleish goes to the floor and
(02:02:00):
he then would be the springboard backinto the ring for the quote unquote shooting
Star. Pile Driver Finnish comes atnineteen minutes forty seconds. Low Key rolls
to the outside, Jody brings himback in. Key kicks out of a
pinfall. I think mainly they werejust trying to recover from that Shooting Star
(02:02:23):
there. Jody goes up top withthe springboard for the seven twenty DDT.
Key is not getting up, soJody gives up. He gets down,
He drags Key up to the toprope. He fights him off, recovering
just in time to finish him offwith the super Key Crusher. And I
(02:02:44):
mean this was like a just weirdmad science wrestling match. Me I love
going into the finish. How Keybasically was dead from the pile driver until
he recovered enough through the Key crusher, but then he was just a limp
corpse in the ring that Fleish hadto drag around if he was going to
(02:03:09):
get anything out of and an appropriatesell for that move, and then he
also Key Also it was a momentwhere taking the finish after he hit the
Key crusher was another logical for whyit took him seven hours to crawl over
for the pin, because that wasa death move. Like literally, there's
(02:03:30):
no reason, yeah, like hewould all why why would Key be like
quick to be right on the cover, Like no, he's selling his tailbone
like mad as well as he finallygets over for the pin, Like it's
one of those moments where then't no, it's completely acceptable that it took him
so long to get over for thepin because it took it out of both
of them. I think that thisis probably the second best finish on this
(02:03:57):
show. Um, just as faras like the look and the impact.
Um, just a fun, funsingles match, maybe not a match of
the year of candidate or anything likeI don't remember it in my head.
Yeah, but at the time itwas filled with super innovative stuff and very
(02:04:19):
creative ways of doing things. So, you know, it's another one of
those matches where maybe age doesn't necessarilyhelp it, but it's still but it
holds up well enough that it's it'snot a doesn't mean it's not a must
see on this show, but it'sa it's like an added bonus to go
along with you know, the thef WA title and the tag title and
(02:04:40):
the main event. It's a curiosityfactor, like you shouldn't say the main
event. As far as like then ring the entering, the two best
things are the f WA title thetag title by by a long shot,
yes, but even this next match, you know it's got it's it's you
know, if you like, ifyou like that good old plunder, Yeah,
and some twists and turns and ringof Honor's first actual hateable heel m.
(02:05:06):
But first we have to go tothe back where Jodi Flice is still
in a world of hurt. SoTerrange is here to give him some drugs.
Of course, care everything uppers forJody had I guess, yeah,
and give him some muppers and needssuddenly back and do the dance party,
(02:05:27):
which was my Hollywood magic point, because I'm assuming that this is just dubbed
over music in the editing process, and that's much like a Hollywood moment.
They're dancing to nothing. There isno music there except the music playing in
their heads, and Doug edited thismusic over the top of the video.
That is my assumption. That's notan assumption. I'm just gonna determine that
(02:05:54):
is a fact. Yes, itis decided it is. I want to
hear the AD three version of thisshow and get it early. Become a
paid for him today at pagereon dotcom slash an hoarable pod. If you
become a patron, you'll get earlyand add free access to the show with
several tiers to choose. Run thatstarted just a few bucks a month,
and each tier comes with more bonusperks like bonus content, merch, and
(02:06:18):
so much more. Support the showat pagreon dot com slash an arble pod
and get early, add free access, and be worthy of an honorable mention.
See him Punk makes his way downto the ring with a steel He
runs down the fans for drinking anddoing drugs and sleeping with people they don't
(02:06:40):
even love. He would never workinto a bus as it's two thousand and
three. There, of course,Gage jokes because it is two thousand and
three, and that is every promohe says that he would never work for
a boss that he hates, anyelse that they're rides them for praying to
a god that he knows doesn't exist. And tonight Raven is going to be
(02:07:06):
made an example of Hey, andI'm gonna come out and do a stand
up comedy routine. So then it'sa it's a Raven's rules match because Raven's
involved. It is Raven and ColdCabana taking on CM Punk in a steel
(02:07:30):
and Punk is of course be ratingCabana for being brainwashed by Raven, tagging
against his own trainer and his bestfriend. Of course, we recall back
to when Punk called out Raven earlierin the year when Raven came to Ring
of Honor. They fought at Expectthe Unexpected in the Boston area where Punk
(02:07:57):
and Raven went to war. Raventapped, which doesn't necessarily sound like a
common thing. Um, and theythey isolate Cabana to start this match,
which I thought was interesting. Um, kind of a twist. You make
(02:08:20):
Ravens stand on the outside and Ravensgetting the hot tag. He ain't doing
the work, He's getting a hottag. He's gonna He's getting the hot
tag and cleaning the house. Plusthey plus you'd also be able to store
a Raven can't get his hands onPunk. You know, it's very much
an inverse of the dreamer in Raven. You know, Well, Cabanah does
(02:08:46):
give a double knee to Punk andthen does make a tag to Raven.
Let's say it's a lukewarm tag toa Raven. There and Punk. He
slides to the outside and a steelwaits for Raven to turn his back and
he whacks him with his chair.M Raven then comes back, does his
(02:09:09):
you know, typical Russian lights sweepthat we know, and um, Punk
gets in. Punk is gonna rustlehim. Ah, there's some some slight
contact, but Cabana tags himself indoes a clothes line. Um, there's
(02:09:31):
some good like Cabana Punk interaction herethat I found enjoyable. Um, but
we have ourselves a little bit ofShenanigans's Uh. Cabana gets his hand on
the ropes after a bulldog, andCabana catches Punk with the quote unquote honor
(02:09:52):
roll and tags Raven. And Ravencomes in. He cleans house. He's
got a ash can. Punk triesto hit a van daminator. Raven throws
the can right back at Punk inhis face, and Raven hits a running
PLUNCHA how about that. This istwo thousand and three Raven. This is
(02:10:15):
Raven like this. He was doinggood, he was doing the you know,
he was doing work during this timerame year. His impact back stuff,
like he was doing some good stuff. Here, can we book Raven
on this show? Charge us probablyhave to talk to Joe. I would
like to talk to Raven. Uh, what's fascinating is at the same time
(02:10:37):
for him. Also, every companyon Earth was running Punk and Raven.
TNA literally and Norm did it aweek before their first match and Ring of
Honor. Norm ran it, andthen TNA decided to put him on the
same team. It's like everybody went, huh, it's working for Gabe.
(02:11:01):
We're all gonna do it. We'retaking it around the loop. Yeah,
and they ran with it, soit worked. Um even the yeah f
w um. So after the plaunchat Cabana, heads to the outside,
he does a moon salt and uhhe uh is clutching his knee at the
(02:11:26):
end of it. It's now twoon one screaming. Yeah he's it was
almost gruesome, but yeah, everso, well, I don't know.
I mean, it's that high. It's that he's screaming to that point where
your voice cracks, and yeah,it was. It was enough to me.
He like, fuck, yeah, you never want to see anything like
(02:11:52):
that if it's legimate or legitimate orlegit or just you know, the spot.
He sold fuck out of it.So then we kind of go back
into this two on one thing.Raven tries the even Flow Ace cuts him
off with a missile drop kick.I guess it's not the even Flow DDT
(02:12:13):
anymore at this point, it's theRaven effectum same same, Raven thrust kicks
Punk in the jaw. Yeah, but it's a beautiful one. At that
Steel sets up a table and Punktries the elbow, but he misses.
He goes through the table. Raven, of course pops up like he's Superman.
He hits the Raven Effect Slash evenFlow Slash DDT for the win at
(02:12:39):
fifteen fifty three to get his hisvictory here by himself, and after the
match, Punk refuses to shake thehand of Raven, so Raven tries the
DDT on him. Punk fails.Raven gives a Steel more punishment and gives
(02:13:00):
him an even for a version effectthe ETU. He's on the mic.
He wants to rematch, wants hisrevenge, He wants to Pinpunk Um Park
Punk Park. Punk is yelling atCabana and then Punk attacks Raven from behind
and Cabannah turns on Raven and theyreveal it was all a ruse. It
(02:13:24):
was not a ruse. It wasnot a ruse. It wasn't a plan.
Just talk some sense into Cabana. And no point was it ever a
ruse or a plan or anything. It would have made no sense in the
in the way this was constructed. It was never It was never a ruse
(02:13:48):
or anything like. It was literallythem saying what the fuck are you doing
in Cabanna finally being like, you'reright, they shouldn't be fighting with my
trainer and my best friend. Itwasn't an It wasn't them having some master
plan against against Raven. It wasnever sold like that ever, So I
(02:14:11):
don't know the reason I theorized thatwas because you have Cabana moonsulting out and
then being down as the the endof the match comes, Raven wins.
Obviously he was couldn't He was injuredso he couldn't be involved in that point.
It took him out of the match. But it was never sold as
though they had some master plan likethey any did. It was never a
(02:14:33):
you know it would do. Therewas never there was we got you right
now, not at all. Itwas very much like what the fuck are
you doing? And then now thisis you know, we talked some sense
and to him and now the SecondCity Saints are born. Thank you,
Josh Prohibition. Yeah. Um,Punk gives Raven a drop to hold onto
(02:14:58):
the chair, which we it wasa Raven staple. Commander gets on the
mic and says he's not going tofollow Raven because Punk is his best friend
and Raven is a washed up husband. What now, imagine how fuck we
have one match, scot I'm gonnashove in this anecdote, real quiquick.
Imagine if Raven had been a twothousand and two version of Seth Rollins and
(02:15:22):
was taking everybody's eyes, not justScottie Ravens. Scottie Rex is the only
person unfortunate enough to lose their eyeto Ravens drop till old boy. But
it made the spot for the restof Raven's career. Yeah then, and
(02:15:45):
uh, you know rain Mysterio theonly wrestler that I'm aware of to lose
an ice sense. Yeah, yeah, No, there wasn't that part of
that now, No, No,that was part of of of of alistair
Blacks, that story that has continuesto this day. Was it? I
just remember it was like a droptotal hold onto the stairs that caused I
(02:16:11):
didn't remember who Yeah, yeah, yeah, Seth Rollins taking eyes now he's
taking pecks. Yeah, that's thebest of what's just to Cody and yeah,
but that was a hell of amatch, hell of a hell of
a hell in a cell match, great man without leaving in the cage a
(02:16:33):
warrior's effort from Cody. I thoughtthis was this was a damn a solid
tag match. Continued the story becausethat's what really the Raven and Punk stuff
is. It's there they are makingthere, They're they're telling stories, baby
ye speaking as much as they arein the in the in the in the
having matches because it's Ringham honor andyou know where the the insert vomitous work
(02:16:58):
rate word promotion. Um, youknow, they're they're telling the stories.
They're telling the stories tear you know, with the Raven and Punk and prolonging
that and I said, you gotthe birth of the Second City, same
side of this. So also inhistoric night in the company history to go
along with the Brisco's first tag matchand what we're about to see in the
(02:17:20):
main event as spoiled by your DVDcover. Yes, so we go to
Homicide. He says that he's doingto bring a real bunk house legend to
the bunk House Brawl next month. So now he participates in a riot.
Then he participates in a six mantag. It turns into a riot,
and now he has to invite guestsand his friend gets to hang out backstage
(02:17:45):
with him after Gabe threatening to throwhim out earlier in the nights and them
showing up with machetes. Yes,yes, yes, In other words,
there are no repercussions anything. Toquote the great Dusty Rhodes, the special
guest of Notorious twenty seven Homicide. Then among thieves, baby yes, um,
(02:18:11):
the Dusty's coming into our age anduh, God, God blessed Dusty
Rhodes, the greatest of all timeand one of my favorites. Um,
but Loki uh pops into camera frame. He wonders why Homicide wants to bring
the street life the Ring of Honor, and it doesn't belong here, so
(02:18:33):
he wants to know why, andthis goes nowhere. It's correct. Ultimately
it is main event time here onan honorable mention and Patreon dot com back
slash, Honorable Pod presents the Ringof Honor Championship match. It is Xavier
defending his Ring of Honor world title. Well it's not a world title yet.
(02:18:56):
With Alison Danger and the Fallen AngelChristopher Daniels against Samoa Joe in pants.
Yes, strange thing. It's aweird thing to see Joe and pants.
I you know what, I'm thinkingback to Pittsburgh. He had on
jeans and I think I got wrestlinggear him wrestling in in long trunks like
(02:19:22):
the first time when Punk came outwith him. Now when you wrestled Darby.
It's weird to see him in longtrunks and long long boys. It's
just I'm but I was thinking backto like that, and I'm like,
I don't ever remember him being likebackstage in a professional atmosphere where he's not
just wearing like sweat pants or shortsdepending on where what time of year it
(02:19:45):
was. He's got on nice dresspants and a nice jacket. And am
I I look at him classy SamoaJoe just for the adult occasion success,
yeah, and growing up learning todress like an adult. Yeah, I'll
figure that out. Someding. Yeah, Yeah, I'm not dressing that's no
(02:20:09):
fun. I think the most Iget dressed up is when I come visit
m um. But before the matchbegins with Samoa Joe and his long boys,
Michael Shane comes down. Did wepay Michael Shane just to do this?
Did Ring pay Michael Shane for this? And the same thought I had
(02:20:31):
a special K? Did they justdid special K? The twenty seven members
that weren't involved in the match getpaid just to stand there at ringside.
Michael Shane get paid just to comeout and super kick Danger. My thought
process is a flight delay for MichaelShane or he had another booking somewhere close
and just make it. I'm noteven looking up that I'm just no because
(02:20:56):
I don't know I mean yeah, because the whole start to this match,
as the circus so Daniels is laidout, CW Anderson grabs Alison Danger,
he kidnaps her to the back andthat leaves just Joe an Xavier out at
ringside and we get the most beautiful, like dominating performance from Samojo right at
(02:21:24):
the beginning of this match, establishinghim firmly that Samojo is God and he
is professional wrestlings. But he alsomakes Xavier look like the champion. But
Joe is on another level. Yeahyeah, Like Xavier lays in some really
(02:21:46):
brutal chops and Joe just says fuckyou and slaps him. Yeah. I
think this, I look at thismatch is a great so for all of
the shit and hate Xavier got fromfans for being the one who beat low
Key and being the champion. Ithink this match is the payoff for that
(02:22:16):
because Xavier had really good matches. We've talked about him matches with Paul,
the Three Way, the matches withyou know, with Jay Brisco, Like,
he's had really good matches as champion. But he wasn't Key, who
hasn't like Daniels. You know,he wasn't like the the guy. You
know, he was the second youknow, he was the B plus player
(02:22:39):
of sorts, you know, forit's just what popped in my head of
carrying around the belt. But inthat same regards, he'd done more than
Joe yep in the company. Youknow, he had been establishing himself whether
or not. You know, Iafter watching several of them back, like
the the Scoot Andrews matches, likethey don't really hold up all that well
(02:23:03):
and one of them has clipped allthe shit uh, like really badly the
one in crowning a champion. Butlike he'd been in the company, he'd
established himself, Joe had done, had had some like he'd done like four
or five six matches, you know, and he had like but he was
(02:23:26):
he had established himself solidly with theFight without Honor. He had good match
with Doug, good match with Brian. There was the Doug match after this,
after this, but a couple ofgood match with Brian, solid match
with Homicide, but like enough thingwhere you remotely going into it like this
is the next world champ based onwhat had come before. But I think
(02:23:48):
Xavier was so hated by the fansthat watched their reaction in the crowd,
you know, talk about it forthe tag title match. Watched the crowd
when Joe wins this match there,Yeah, they're fucking they explode for Joe
William this match. Kenta Kobashi wasthere and lost his fucking mind. I
(02:24:11):
mean, yeah, you get nothing. I get nothing from me for that
one. I mean it just there'sa a certain quality that Joe has.
I don't think it matters. Idon't think he was there yet. I
(02:24:33):
see, I don't think he wasquite very The very first time I saw
Joe, I said, you know, this guy is gonna be a mega
star. I'm saying I don't thinkhe was there yet with the fans like
he they liked him. He hadestablished himself as definitely a force. But
I think in the fact that itwas how he was built after this too,
(02:24:56):
that what established him. I thinkpart of that reaction that he gets
is because he's beat Xavier and theyfucking hated him. They hated Xavier.
I think that's part of it.Um. One example of the running knee
through the ring barrier outside on thefloor, the crowd loses their fucking minds.
(02:25:20):
Yeah. Um, there's more likechicken shittery from Xavier as opposed to
wrestling, which I think is brillianton his part, Like he slaps Joe
in the face instead of pinning him, trying to be cocky. Once they're
back in the ring, he hitsa seeded drop kick, and then Joe
(02:25:43):
is just annoyed. And then Ithink that the cocky arrogance comes from what
Xavier said that goes back to thepromo you lost to low Key, I
beat him m So you know themathematics of pro wrestling. That means I'm
gonna beat you, of course makessense. So basically, this is a
(02:26:07):
very short main event all things considersa level minutes and it's fifty five seconds.
It's not the huge work main event, but it is a historical main
event for all the right reasons.Joe kind of goes into this like sequence
of domination. It's a German suplexand then a Dragon suplex and another German
(02:26:31):
suplex. Xavier rolls out of thering and Joe counters the X Breaker to
a brainbuster. Xavier knees him inthe head on the way up. Xavier
does hit the X breaker and goesfor the four fifty splash. Joe gets
his knees up, Joe needs himin their head repeatedly, and then chokes
(02:26:54):
him out, and we have ourselvesa new Ring of Honor Champion. And
at that very moment, on Marchthe twenty second of two thousand and three,
the Ring of Honor belt found itrightful home in the crowd with bananas.
(02:27:16):
Yeah. And if you watch thevideo package that preceded Joe versus Kobashi,
you're a really keen eye for frame. By framing something, you'll see
the kent to Kobashi was in factin the crowd on this day. What
(02:27:39):
what do you want to tell thestory behind that? I know we talked
about it on the Joba Oh thatEric Eric Santa Maria just edited a flash
frame of Jocobashi over the head ofDavy Andrews watching this match. Is Davy
Andrews in the crowd and he flashframed Kobashi over his head on this and
(02:28:01):
maybe even a clip of Joe's debut, uh, possibly, but definitely this.
So it's just a flash frame. It's it is maybe one frame two
frames of video. It's the funniest. It's like, right when Joe holds
up the belt, there's a flashroom of Kobashi and the crowd watching the
match. It's the funniest fucking thingbecause it's such a little inside hidden yeah
(02:28:26):
bit and that is just it's great. It's one of the one of the
few random things. Now there's there'syou know, there's an easter egg on
the Brian Final Countdown the Road toGlory like single disc comp that we did
for it in two thousand and nine. There's like a hidden easter egg on
there. I'll be curious that Iactually forget what it is. That might
(02:28:50):
be the um, that might bethe one of bird on that show on
that it might just be birds sweepingthe ring I'm from Brian and Nidol's last
show. I don't know, butit's yeah, it's aletely insignificant thing.
It's just if somebody finds us.I don't know anybody ever did, because
(02:29:11):
you know, these are the dayswhere you would go on on a DVD
menu and to try to find theEaster eggs, you'd like, you know,
highlight something and push right on theDVD menu twice. So it's one
of those sorts of things. Soif you have Brian Danison Rise the Glory
or whatever the fuck it's called, and trying to go find the Easter aggun,
well, this is a brilliant Itwasn't. I won't say it was
a true squash match because you know, I think you need like nine less
(02:29:35):
minutes for to be a squash match, but yeah it was. It was
a champions squash match. I guessyou could say, oh, just Exavier
throwing everything he can at Joe,and this is just establishing Joe as a
fucking monster, like you don't fightGodzilla with your fists. No, now
(02:29:56):
you fight Godzilla with Mecca Godzilla.Sure you don't know anything about I just
assume there's like, oh, youknow it's Matthew Broger Gunzell. I'm sure,
No, no, no, thenew one, cong gotcha, gotcha
Acid Trip. Now we have thenew champion and Rain Rain Rain for the
(02:30:22):
next you know, the two yearsI wrote the New Era of Roh is
here. Let's fucking go. I'mexciting, solid enough way to start to
start to kick, to to toestabue established this champion, and I can
honestly say, you know, toSamoa Joe individually as the champion, um
(02:30:48):
that played into my willingness to becomeas devoted as I was and and make
the commitment to travel and gotcha notby himself, but I think if you
(02:31:09):
made a list, that will bethe first name I'd put on the list.
And the man that will be talkedabout in the next backstage promoto is
probably number two. But Ven,No, not Raven, the man he's
gonna be talking about who's paired withSamoa Joe for many iconic matches. Three,
(02:31:31):
But they actually had five that Iknow of that I've seen. But
Raven, He's impressed, will seeon Punk's potential. He says it in
a very condescending way. He says, unfortunately, he thinks Punky's a jackass.
He calls Punk's little group a freakshow and a group of misfits.
(02:31:54):
He says that they can do whateverthey want to him as long as he
can give them the Raven effect DDT. And when those words are coming from
somebody who's entourage at one point wasStevie Richards, the blue Meanie. Uh
and he pit bulls, um itmeans a lot to call him freak show.
Yeah, he knows as and heknows and you know, also the
(02:32:16):
flock with young Kidman and Lodi andso Raven. If anyone's going to know
a freak show and he sees it, it's going to be the guy who
is the leader sick boy in Reese. Yeah, you know Horace, like
you know Ravens. Raven knows hishis freak shows and in pro wrestling,
so that he does. Um SoRaven Warren's Punk to watch his back look
(02:32:41):
over his shoulder. I believe itwas the quote. Christopher Daniels says,
this has been a horrible week forthe prophecy. He's lost the FWA title
and the Ring of Honor tag titles. Xavier lost the title. He'll be
out several months. And to topit all off, Carino's group fired a
first shot. It's like the seventhtime the first shot has been fired.
(02:33:05):
The seventh first shots, like whenthey have eighteen first pitches in their baseball
game, which one's the first pitch? He says, it doesn't surprise him
Michael Shane would be there and bethe one to fire the first shot.
He tells us that he'll be back, and so will the prophecy, and
his eyes are on Michael Shane andSteve Corino. So the final thing we
(02:33:28):
see on this show is hysterical tome because we catch up with Steve who
is on the Internet, which hadto be some sort of like inside joke.
Made me think of that one youknow in your house where it was
the show Sean Michaels on the onthe AOL chat room and he's single finger
(02:33:52):
punching all the keys. Yeah.Yeah, he strikes me as a finger
finger pecker um or a keyboard peckeror whatever the word is. You know,
you know what I mean, whereyou type of huntin Peck whatever.
Um Corino says that Homicide is lessthan a man for giving his cop killer
finisher to simply less just Ronnie Stevens. And he's gonna come back to Ring
(02:34:16):
of Honor soon and Homicide better watchhimself five months. H Yeah, it's
gonna be a lot. Hey,at least he comes back for the Best
Match of two thousand and three. It's true he does. Yeah. You
may have seen the runner up tothe Best Match of two thousand and three
on this show. Yeah, I'mvery possible on this show though historic obviously,
(02:34:39):
as we said for Birth of theSecond City Saints, the first time
the brisk was the team. Butas far as the Inn Ring, it's
like a fifty fifty show. That'spretty generous. Well, you know,
there's thirteen matches and uh, twelvematches and well, yeah, just twelve
matches, and I'll give four ofthem, you know, the last five
(02:35:00):
of them. So the last five, the last four matches they have to
be a title match. Yeah, five out of twelve thirteen. Yeah,
I'll give it a fifty fifty.I thought the show was all right,
Um, obviously there were you know, important moments and matches but yeah,
(02:35:22):
I don't think this is what Iwould call a great wrestling show more historical
now, but I think the strengthof what's good is so fucking good that
if this was in the era whereyou could you go to the website and
order this DVD, I would sayordered for those matches. Yep, absolutely
(02:35:46):
m And you know, if you'rea Ring of Honor fan, you got
