Recenti sondaggi dimostrano che la stragrande maggioranza dei cristiani, coloro cioè che affermano di essere nati di nuovo, crede che la loro salvezza dipenda, almeno in parte, dal proprio comportamento e dalle proprie azioni. Certo, credono che Gesù sia morto per i loro peccati, ma una volta che lo accettano come Salvatore devono comunque raggiungere un certo standard per essere “buoni” abbastanza. Se questo fosse vero, la domanda da porsi diventa: qual è lo standard e come fai a sapere di esserci finalmente arrivato? La Chiesa ha cercato di dare una risposta a queste domande per secoli ed esse finiscono sempre per mettere le persone sotto una schiavitù religiosa e legalista. Perciò qual è la risposta? Direi che sarebbe meglio cominciare facendosi la domanda giusta che non è: “Cosa devo fare?” ma piuttosto “Cosa ha fatto Gesù?”. Comprendendo la rivelazione dell’apostolo Paolo riguardo a quello che Gesù ha fatto, che scopriamo nel libro dei Romani, non ti chiederai mai più se sei arrivato allo standard.
