The chair. He being so hardyourself and your wrists. I balanced it
on top of my head my netwos hellod Okay, Hello, hey guys,

(00:36):
welcome, welcome. I'm Abby andI'm Shauna and this is Anxious and
Afraid. It's a podcast where wetalk about things that make you have chills,
yeah, or you know, getanxiety. Like last week we talked
about plane crashes. Of our faves. It is one of our faves.
We do love a harrowing survival story. You got a lot of those on

(00:57):
this podcast. That's us. Hmmm, take it or leave it? Yeah,
take it, but take it.So what's up? Things have happened?
Have happened? I think I'm supposedto ask you first. Yeah,
that's technically what we do. Okay. I feel like the last few weeks
we've had the same things. Wehaven't gone you know what. I feel
like, I never ask you andthat's my bad. How rid of you.

(01:19):
But I'm still gonna ask you first. Maybe I have I don't know.
Sorry, Please forgive me. Imean you don't have to apologize.
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm surefall on you. Abby, I know,
Shanna, what made you anxious orafraid? The people want to know
how Mexico was. I know everyone'sdying to know, and you're alive.
I am alive. Oh my god. I survived, survived multiple plane rides,

(01:42):
and let me tell you they werescary. Yeah, despite me doing
a plank cross story right before youleft, everything turned out fine. Well,
I no doors flew open, thankgoodness. And that was something I
totally forgot to mention in our lastepisode. But yeah, that's the thing
that scared me the most. Soif you haven't heard, like a month
before I was supposed to go toMexico, it was on an Alaska Airlines

(02:07):
flight. It went out of Portland, which is PDX, which is literally
what the same airline and the sameplace I flew out of, and the
door flew open at like shortly aftertakeoff, and it was the scariest thing
I've ever read. I was like, this is why I'm afraid to fly
people. It was like the emergencypanel or something, the emergency door like
in the middle of the plane, like people sit next to it. Ah,

(02:30):
that is so I just don't Ifthat happened, I'd be like,
yeah, okay, it's the end. This is how we die, Like
right, I mean, everyone's fine, and they did an emergency landing and
what not and the but if thedoor had flown off when they were like
higher elevation, it could have beenreally bad. And apparently, I mean
everyone literally, not just you.Everyone tried to hide this from me,

(02:52):
like the more the news came out, because I was trying to avoid it,
but I also not avoiding it atthe same time. But I know
that they found more loose screws andtheir planes, which is absolutely and we
looked up. We had like we'reon the same We were on the same
terrifying Boeing model. They had thesame door. We looked at it afterwards.
Anyways, have you heard those evenmore recent stories about there was just

(03:17):
one another one in Portland. Iwas like, what is going on?
I didn't hear about that. Theygot they landed and realized a panel was
missing on the plane. It wasn'tone I guess that would have been open
to the air, but it wasjust missing, a missing panel from a
plane that shouldn't have anything flying offof it. Yeah, unacceptable, Boeing.
We're gonna have to respectfully ask youto get your shit together. Yeah,

(03:38):
they have gone downhill and their safetyis not their priority. And I
know this. Did you also hearabout that guy the well? I mean,
it's all still under investigation, butthere was just recently a story of
a former Boeing employee who was founddead in a parking lot. Conspiracy.

(03:59):
There's a lot of conspiracies flying aroundbecause it was he was found in his
car outside of a hotel. Itwas supposedly a self inflicted gunshot lies and
he was supposed to have a hearing. He was a whistleblower and he was
supposed to have a hearing in June. Get out of town. But wait,
this happened in Portland? Is thisthe same person? No, I
don't think it happened in Portland, but I mean if it was Boeing,
but it's pointing, okay, Buteither way, it's a it's a past

(04:23):
ploying employee, employee. I can'tspeak. Oh yeah, he had worked
there for several years and I guesshe had had issues with like quality and
like the way things were being done, and they were just like they would
just move him to a different partof the plant. After he complained.
It was like, that's sus itcould he could just be you know,
he could have just been really depressedor something, but like also that that

(04:44):
is very possible. Lastly, becausehe like if he knew too much,
he maybe couldn't have handled it andhe just wanted to go. I mean,
totally possible, and he had thiswhole hearing. I don't know.
Maybe it's trying to think it wouldgo well. I don't know, but
like rif Thing, just because hewas a whistleblower and then he's found dead,
you're just like the coincidences. Conspiracyis a bound a bound a bound
It's our new favorite word. Ialso, I mean, I don't think

(05:08):
Boeing would off someone. They haveso many lawyers they would probably just bury
them instigation and not murder them. But like it's it's just too like juicy
to not think that maybe something.I just can't get over the documentary I
watched. I think it's on Netflix. John A did a special on it
and it they like there was aperson with a camera who was asking like

(05:28):
Boeing employees that like we worked onthe planes, like to get put them
together, and they were like wouldyou fly this plane? And like it
was like ten out of fifteen saidno, oh no it was and one
guy to make it even freakin worse, said, yeah, I would,
but I also have a weird deathwish. So that's like not okay.
No, we like and we livekind of close. I mean we are

(05:49):
just one stayed away from Washington, which is right. I forget Boeing is
headquarters. I think it's in Seattle. They're based out of and very true.
We like work in the finance world. We do loans all the time
for Boeing employees. And it's true, like inspectors and I'm always like,
what do you know, sir?Are you doing your job? Maybe not,

(06:10):
I don't know. It's all verystrange. Anyways, to bring it
back to me in Mexico anyway, about Mexico, that was our Boeing tangent
are bad? Are bad, ButI mean it was. I mean,
I guess starting with the I mean, Mexico was great. Oh my gosh,
I had great time. What anexperience. The food was devoine,
it was so fun. It wasvery hot over there, so it was

(06:30):
like a very hard trip. It'slike very jarring, very different climate.
Yeah, and we had our youknow, two year old, and so
it was a lot. It was. It was very hard work. But
it was like worth it. Areyou talking about the Karen on the plane?
Oh my gosh. So yes,our first plane ride. I got
really scared. Of course, myanxiety was building up, so I like
started to cry, it's fine.I had it, let it out,

(06:55):
it's fine. And I mean itwas kind of early in the morning.
We had to like wake up atfour o'clock in the morning, so like
Rylan had been up, we onlyhad like a few hours of sleep.
Such an early flight, and thefirst flight was obviously really scary for all
of us, Like it was herfirst plane ride, and I was obviously
anxiety off the charts. And yeah, so she did have her moments of

(07:15):
screaming it take off was really bad, and I mean at least it was
short, but she did it kindof often. Yeah, and we were
obviously doing everything we could and comfortingher. But yeah, we did have
a Karen across the aisle from uswho would just always look at us every
time she would start having a fit, which I mean, it's my daughter.
She has a voice on her,so she she screams real loud.

(07:36):
She is you know, her emotionsare audible. You know what she's going
through. It makes it out,so I get it, like it's her
scream is a little jarring, butman, it was all the time.
And then Chad was just about tohave it and was just like can I
help you? And Mom was like, oh my god, no, I
love that he said that though, because he was about to throw punches.
Did it shut it down? Likeafter he said that, was she like

(07:59):
did she might? Yeah? Ithink she kind of like was oh okay,
and then like it didn't look Andthen luckily another passenger guy next to
us like talk to us after thatfirst plane ride and was like, don't
let anyone gets here. I meanshe's just a kid. You guys are
doing great, like yeah, andI was like, oh my god,
thank you for saying that. Itmakes me so happy. That's so nice
of him, Like I mean, who hasn't heard a toddler scream like that.

(08:20):
That's just what they do. Andthere is like literally nothing you can
do to make them not do thatif that's what they're going. It's public
transportation. She has a right tobe on there to be Yeah, it's
her seat, we paid for it, so I have headphones. I'm sorry,
go ahead. So yeah, therewas that little incident, but it's
funny on the way back. Okay, so obviously it was a little bit
easier on the way back. Thetime was better, and like we knew

(08:43):
kind of what to expect with aplane ride. And Ryland did amazing the
second on her way back. Shedidn't cry at all, She didn't really
realize takeoff and landing. She wasjust on the phone the whole time,
living her best life. And Iwas so proud of her. She's so
great. I on the other hand, so our first plane back, it
was a three hour ride and itwas back to LA and it was the

(09:05):
most turbulent plane. They kept puttingthe seat belt light on the like attendant
was like had had a stern voiceon the intercom, like it is not
safe to be up right now.You need to be sitting with your seat
belt. And I was like, this is really a little too intense for
me. And I was like,oh my god, I can't handle it.
And they're like, yeah, we'rego. They even like warned us
we're about to hit this area andit's gonna be bumpy ride, so everyone

(09:26):
needs to sit down. I waslike, this is literally my worst thing
there. And Chad was a champand he always had his arm on me
and he's just like, it's okay, it's okay. And all I had
to do was like hold the chairin front of me like with my arm.
And when it started going boom boomboom, and it like had those
deep like feeling like where your likestomach drops into your butt. Yeah,

(09:46):
it feels like the plane is justdropping. And that happened a few times,
and I mean I was sent.I was silent, but I was
bawling. I was like, oh, I got candle it, like I
wish I could hug you. Ohmy god. Chad was even like out
that was scary for me, butI could not show that too. And
I was like and apparently I kindof like and it was a good like

(10:07):
ten fifteen minutes of like that heightenedkind of bumpy turbulence where I like just
had to cry it out because itwas just so scary. And the lady.
There was a lady next to me, and she I noticed that she
was like really intensely looking at me, like bug eyed intense and I was
like, oh my god, I'mscaring her or I didn't know. I
was like, oh my gosh, she's really looking at me, and she
had noticed it too, but apparentlyhe told me later because obviously I was

(10:31):
too busy, you know, crying, but she was. She seemed also
to be very afraid. She waslike holding across and like doing the prayers
and like I think she was justlike looking at me because we were both
like terrified together, and she probablylike probably seeing me didn't help her anxiety
because I'm just like gripping the chairfor my dear life, balling silently but

(10:52):
like so dramatic. Was so dramatic, but hey, everything is okay.
Yeah, it finally smoothed down andthen we got to land and it was
fine. But yeah, that wasa hard one for me because of the
turbulence. I can everything else. All the other flights didn't have that much
turbulence. Oh I feel I mean, people, I think have a lot
of empathy for others who don't dowell flying because it is you're not supposed

(11:16):
to be up there. Okay,it's scary. You're in a metal tube
flying a gazillion miles an hour.It seems it's not right, Like so
many things have to go right foryou to not fall out of this guy,
So it's okay to be scared of. Yeah, it's just like,
looking back, it's kind of funny. It was just like a very dramatic
moment. He kind of told me, like more of her reaction afterwards.
I was just like, wow, just very dramatic and funny because I don't

(11:39):
know, it was just a heightenedmoment. But that's I guess that's the
story I kind of wanted to startoff with since I know that we always
talk about planes and Stuffah, butyeah, do you have any other questions
about Mexco or should I say anythingelse about Mexico? I don't know,
I mean, did you I know, well, we already talked about it
a little bit, so you said, like the food was great, the
vibes were great. Even though youdidn't have air condition, we had fans,

(12:01):
so I mean we survived. AndI mean like it was hot during
the day and so that was likepool time and that was great. And
then in the evening it did cooloff really significantly. And I always loved
it because I would always make sureI like stay up past everyone else,
like everyone be asleep, and thenit was just like quiet time for me
at night. Yeah, and Iwas just out there like I didn't need
to have clothes on it was sowarm and put my feet in the pool

(12:24):
was so great. That sounds nice. Yeah, did you say you saw
a big bug you were going totell me about? H I want to
save that story. We can,Yeah, we can save my bug story
for the n Okay, okay, something for people to look forward. I
do have a Mexico bug story. Was not fun. I'm glad you had
a good trip though, and thatyou survived the flight. Oh yeah,
and even though the plane rides wereterrifying, a lot of like part of

(12:48):
me definitely wants to go back nowthat we know what to expect and kind
of like what's around that area,we like already want to go back.
I would too, well, Imean, Jesse and I were really freaked
out because you guys didn't have service. We did it, or at least
on my phone did it for afew days. Yes. The last we
heard from you was at the PortlandAirport, knowing you were terrified of flying,

(13:11):
and then we don't hear from herfor literal days and I was like,
sorry, checking the news, Okay, no planes went down, like
I feel like we would have heardabout that, And I was just like
Jesse, is she dead? Likewhat happened to their family? Why are
we not hearing from them? Like, surely there's a Starbucks nearby with like
internet, And we were both justlike they probably don't have service, like

(13:35):
I'm sure we'll hear from I evenlike reach out to your mom, like
did you hear from Shauna? Isshe alive? I'm taking care of her
cats? Are these my cats? Now? Is am my new cat?
Mom? Like what is happening? And she's just like I haven't heard from
her either. I'm also kind ofworried. I'm like, well, that
doesn't make me feel better at allat all. I'm so sorry. I
thought about you guys every day,and I tried to contact it was it

(13:56):
was mostly my phone and I forthe first couple days was trying to text
you guys, and it wasn't goingthrough. And I didn't like see that
until the next morning, and Iwasn't hooked up to the Wi fi apparently,
and that was my mistake. Sono one helped me with the WiFi
for a few days. So that'swhy my phone mostly didn't work. But
even with it, you had tobe in like a certain part of the

(14:16):
house for it to like really work, and then if you were anywhere not
near the router, it was likeso slow, so and like I mean,
we were kind of just like allright, next, you know,
we're waking up early morning doing atour, and it was like a very
intense tour or like you know, when we go out and do things,
we don't really have reception to call, and so it was like by the

(14:37):
time we got home, we wereso exhausted that we just wanted to crash.
So like, that's just that wasthe pattern for three days. And
each time I was like, theyliterally think I'm dead and I know this,
and I feel so bad that wehaven't tried to contact them. So
finally I just took Chad's phone andI made the calls. Oh yeah,
And then the call coming from Chad'sphone, I was like, this is

(14:58):
Chad that they He's calling me toinform me that he is now a widower.
Hopefully Rylan's alive, but Sean isdead for sure. Oh my god,
I'm so sorry. Somehow, ina Mexican prison, I'm not sure
what she did, get taken bythe cartel. Immediately, Seana gets in

(15:18):
trouble to the Cardel, I wouldwouldn't I you offended someone, I'm sure,
but yeah, we're all very happieralive, even though you did get
sick. Yeah there. I mean, I was kind of anticipating to be
sick with traveling, but Ryland gotsick had like halfway through the vacation,
so that was a little bit unexpected. That was really kind of a bummer.

(15:41):
And then it went to Chad, and then when we made it home
it came to me. And thenwe're in Death Valley, which is allergies
all year round, all the time, and so I haven't really stopped blowing
my nose since coming back, andthat makes me really sad. Yeah,
because I felt so much, like, like physically, I felt so much
better for Mexico. It's so sad. It's so sad to realize the place
you live is like your body literallyjust wants to not be here, just

(16:04):
sneezing and clearing your throat all thetime. It's kind of a bummer.
Yeah, I didn't realize. Inever realized how bad it is until I
leave and I was like, wow, I can breathe weird, my chest
feels clear and light, my eyesfeel good, I can breathe through my
nose, just fine. Well, the only other I was going to tell

(16:25):
you a story. So Shanna gotsick so she couldn't actually end up she
didn't go to the baby shower forJesse that we've been talking about. Oh
my god, this is the longestintro of all time. And why were
you anxious? In a sorry tobe asking you. Okay, so there's
this baby shower right for our friendJesse, and it was in like for

(16:48):
all intents and purposes cursed. I'mpretty sure everything went wrong at Eddie every
step, just at every step, something would go wrong or get missing or
go missing, or you'd have tochange it. So the last thing that
the last two things that went wrong, which are kind of funny, so
one of them is I realized theday of that the photo back drop I

(17:11):
purchased was not with the stuff thatI had bought. I have since found
it, by the way, Ohmy god, I knew I would,
I knew I had time had itthe whole time. I knew I was
going to find it somewhere unexpected,And I found it still in the bag
under like in the little basket ofTheo's stroller. So of course, of

(17:36):
course, that's where that was thewhole time. So anyway that that was
missing. The day of I waslike, crap, like we already don't
have that much decor. We getthere and I realized that we were given
the wrong address. No I didn'tknow this, Oh my god. So
like I I get on the invite. Yes, So I get a phone
call from Jolie like when I wasalmost there, and she's like, I

(17:56):
don't know if this is the rightplace. This looks like someone's house.
And I was like, no,it's just that's the worst mistake to happen.
It was like, give me twominutes, I'll be there. We'll
figure it out. So we getthere and it's like a it's like a
manufactured home like park community kind ofplace, and they have like a rec
room, like a giant rec roomthat we were gonna have the shower in.

(18:19):
And the address they gave us endedup being a random old man's house
just down the street from the recroom. Oh no, so it wasn't
that far off, but it wasdefinitely not correct. So I like start
panic changing everything. I changed theinvite. I changed like the physical invite
like photo that I had. Ichanged the address on there, and we

(18:40):
already had to change the date once, so oh my gosh, yes,
and like this is hours, likemaybe an hour before people are supposed to
be getting there. So I'm like, okay, Jesus, I'll change it
really quickly. People won't even belooking at it yet, you know,
because they're not even on their way, so I'll just change. It'll be
fine. So we like set upeverything, we get it all going.
Two people still went to, ohno, poor old man's house, and

(19:03):
one of them was like one ofour bosses at work and another friend of
Jesse's. Like they showed up tothis. He's like new to the community,
he's got a couple of chihuahuahs.Sle old man and they're just like,
is there a baby shower here? It's just like, I don't know
what you're talking about. So I'mglad he wasn't an axe murderer. They

(19:26):
made it eventually, but it wasjust like so comical all the things that
is comical. I did make abeautiful chark COOTERI board though, You've made
the most beautiful shark cootieri but I'veever seen it was like put that on
Pinterest. Somebody needs to see itpintress level Foreshore, and I don't have
any interest in making another one,but now I know I have that skill.
Of course, you have all theskills. You can do anything you

(19:48):
set your mind to heavy, youknow. Thank you, my hype woman.
So yeah, that was well, you survived that. I mean,
I was unfortunately not a part ofthe baby shop because I was part of
the curse. Part of the curse. I was too sick at that point.
But yeah, what what a mess. But you did it. We
did it. I've lived with thiscurse for so long that I just power

(20:10):
through. You do you know howto handle it? Anyway? Sorry for
the longest intro we had to catchup. That was a lot. Wow.
So sorry. Wow. Maybe we'llput a time stamp in the action.
I actually feel bad a little bit, like you can skip to this
time if you don't care about us. Yeah, for sure, Michael,

(20:32):
just note that, so the editornote it right now. Okay, So
am I doing episode now? Soare we just going to dive in?
I think? So? Oh lord, let's get this over now. This
one is actually uh one I've alwaysbeen really fascinated with. It really bothers
me. This one that I'm aboutto tell you it bothers me because it

(20:57):
don't make no sense. Yeah,it's kind of one of those really popular
true crime cases. I feel likeit's been done a lot. You might
recognize the name knowing, you know, yeah, we do this. Yeah,
yeah, So I'm curious to seehow much you remember, if you
know it. But I needed tokind of do a little shorty since I

(21:18):
went to Mexico, then I gotsick, and now I'm moving and everything's
crazy. So but a good kindof shorty to go to is like missing
persons for me. And so I'mgoing to go back to this topic and
we're doing a crazy missing person's case. Okay, so I'm doing the disappearance
of Brian Schaefer Brian Shafer. Youdon't know. I'm trying to remember because

(21:42):
I definitely have a missing person's onmy list named Brian. But I think
there's a few missing Brian probably sorryBrian's. I wonder if it's they.
It might be. But that's kindof fun too, because then we can
like together, oh for sure. But yeah, okay, I'm excited.
I love a missing person. Imean I don't, that's not how I

(22:03):
mean it. But like, weget it. The mystery of it is
it's very odd. I try toalways look for like the really bizarre are
odd ones because it's just like, how in the world does someone like this
go missing? Okay, okay, okay, okay. So we're gonna kind
of start in the beginning. BrianSchaeffer was born February twenty fifth, nineteen
seventy nine. He grew up inPickerington, Ohio, Okay, which is

(22:27):
right outside of Columbus. He graduatedhigh school in nineteen ninety seven and then
went on to college to Ohio StateUniversity. It took him six years to
earn his degree in micro biology intwo thousand and four micro biology another biologist.
I know, it's kind of cool, two episodes in a row.

(22:47):
I don't even realize. Yeah,so he totally graduated with that season thirty.
He's very smart. Yes, Hismom, Renee, was a nurse,
and Brian was very close to hismom, kind of a MoMA's boy.
He decided to then follow in herfootsteps, and so he began studying
medicine to become a doctor. Okay, his mom suddenly ended up developing a

(23:12):
really rare form. I believe itwas blood cancer. He would always be
in the hospital with her as shewould try to go through her treatments,
so like, unfortunately they kind ofhad to like watch her decline for a
bit. God, that's so sad. Yeah, it's a bummer. And
two years into studying medicine, sheended up passing away in early March of

(23:33):
two thousand and six. Family andfriends said that her passing was really hard
on him, but he seemed tobe handling it, you know, fine,
okay for the most part, youknow, as well as you can,
right and you're in college, andwhat a hard time to go through
something. I mean, it's nevera good time to go through that.
But like in those formative years whenyou're just trying to like figure out how

(23:56):
to be an adult, super youngadult college life, Like you're the mama's
boy. So it's like that's someonereal close to you, like really significant.
Probably had to grow up really quickly. Yeah, let's see. He
was able to still manage to cramall of his studies in for and pull
like all nighters for the finals rightbefore spring break. Brian also had a

(24:21):
very pretty serious girlfriend at the time. Her name was Alexis Wagner. A
yeah, a little bit. Alexi. By the way, this is not
the Brian that I was thinking of. It's not, you know for sure,
Yeah, okay, okay, cool, I didn't steal anything from you.
Then. No, there is avery real figure that one day we
will pick the same thing. Ifeel like it's gonna happen at some point,

(24:42):
at some point, it's got it. It's gonna be hilarious. But
well, it'll be fine. It'sthe dangerous like surprising each other with the
story and having the same interest, you know, very true, very true?
Okay, So yeah. Her namewas Alexis Wagner. They were planning
on spending their spring together with aweek long, trick trick week long trip

(25:06):
to Miami, Florida. This wasalso like a last minute gift from Brian's
mom Ornee that she was able togive them, so it was a very
like needed and meaningful trip for themto take. Friends and family also speculated
that this was going to be thetrip where Brian might have proposed to Alexis.

(25:26):
They were like that serious I thinktrip, Yeah, so I mean
like crazy, yeah, So sadlywe know this doesn't end in a proposal.
Yeah. By the way, thatyou worded it. I was like,
oh, I know. So it'sa Friday night. It's March thirty,
first, two thousand and six. It's so it's the very very beginning

(25:48):
of spring break. The last classjust happened, and it's the evening to
start spring, right. He goesout to eat with his dad, Randy,
and then joyous steak dinner together.Oh, Randy, Dad, Randy,
that's nice. Yeah, Randy andRenee to our names. That's cute.

(26:10):
Randy said that Brian did seem prettyexhausted from all the schoolwork and all
nighters for the last minute tests, that he didn't think he would end up
going out with his friends that night. Well he did, because you're in
your twenties and you still go out. I mean, you just got done
with finals, you got the emotionsare high. You gotta blos exactly immediately.

(26:32):
Yeah, celebrate. So he stilldid, and he ended up meeting
with an old roommate named William ClintFlorence Okay, and he goes by Clint
okay, which is like one ofmy least favorite names of all time.
Clint. I hate that name.I'm sorry. You don't offend any Clint's
but I don't like that name,Clint. It's too close to the other

(26:53):
word I don't like. Wait,there's two I'm thinking of. Oh they're
both probably bad sea words for thearea. We're thinking, yes, well
it's not bad. Well they're notbad. They words aren't bad. I
just don't I just don't like thesound of it. Okay, that's fair.
I don't know. I were liketiptoeing around it when we curse like

(27:14):
sailors. But okay, this isthe PG rated episode, I know,
very true. I'm just not gonnasay it. That's fine. You can't
say you up, but I'll hateyou Clint. No, the name's fine.
But yeah, alright, so Eastwood, Clint Eastwood, we hate him,
Okay, sure, okay, allright, he's enemy number one now,
got it? Oh my god,we're offending so many people named Clint.

(27:38):
Anyway, so he decides to meetup with his friend Clint and they
go to the Ugly Tuna Salona. That's awesome, greatest sala. Yeah,
ugly Tuna Saluna. It's so funto say. Saluna is what got me.
I love that. It's a greatname. So they meet up around

(28:00):
nine pm that night and they dothe classic bar hopping. About an hour
into the night, so it's aroundten PM, Brian and his girlfriend Alexis
are on the phone together. They'relike having a normal phone call. They're
talking about their trip that they're goingto take on Monday, and they're going
to meet at the airport on Mondaybecause Alexis at this time was out of

(28:23):
town visiting her parents for the weekend. Oh okay, so that's where they
were going to meet. The conversationwas normal and relax and they said they're
good nights and I love yous, and sadly that was the very last conversation
she would ever have with her boyfriendBrian. It's really sad. I can't

(28:45):
like I just put myself in hershoes and that's just it's just sad,
devastating, Like you're so excited totake this trip together. She's probably feeling
giddy because she thinks he might propose. Yeah, I think she kind of
like was thinking that too, andthey're just like a young, hot couple
in love and they're both I forgotto mention this. She's also a med
student, so there are like,oh my gosh, the like they're both

(29:06):
med students. Wow, So perfectlittle match. Yeah. Yeah, man,
they would have made really smart babiesprobably probably all right, So they
have that conversation. The bar hoppingcontinues and Brian and Clint end up taking
one shot each at each bar thatthey go to. Oh that's not that
bad unless they were drinking more ontop of that. But that's pretty honestly

(29:29):
subdued for a college student. Sure, sure, I mean, yeah,
that's doable, one shot each.I mean I think they went to at
least a few bars. I thinkit was like maybe indicated like four or
five different bars, So I meanlike they're having a good amount of shots.
Yeah, I'm a lightweight. Iwould be toasted after four or five
shots. But right, but theseare men, like college men. Yeah
specifically, yeah, probably have beendrinking. Okay, yeah, so that's

(29:52):
what they're doing. Then they wantedto meet up with another friend of theirs
named Meredith Reid. She ends uppicking both Brian and Clint up, and
sometime after midnight, they decide toend the night and go back to where
they started, which was the UglyTunes Stupid Ugly tun Saloons, got it,

(30:14):
Ugly Dune saloons? Yes, Okay, so they end up going there.
They all go to the bar togetherfor a last round. Uh.
There was also a live band playingat that bar that night, so it's
a very crowded bar. It's veryloud. It's one of those bars with

(30:36):
you know, live music, fun, super fun. But at some point
Brian is separated from his friends andmaybe he like went to the bathroom.
I don't know how long technically,I guess I'll tell you later. But
it's two am at the time, and it's time for closing for the bar,
and Clinton and Meredith are calling hisname. They're like, hey,

(30:59):
where did he go? And hehas nowhere to be found? So he
went to the bathroom? Has notbeen seen since. I'm speculating. Did
he go to the bathroom? Idon't know, but he just like ended
up separating from both Clint and Meredith, gotcha? And you know, I
guess the most reasonable thing you'd thinkof is maybe he went to the bathroom.
Maybe he went to get another drink, maybe he left. I don't

(31:19):
know, but they were like, okay, so where is he where it's
time to go. He never comesout. They're calling his name, they're
calling his phone. He's nowhere tobe found. So they're like, Okay,
that's a little weird. Let's see, did everyone just hear Roscoe burp?
Because was that a burp? Yeah? I thought that was a growl.
He just dog belched. Impressive,he's making some noise, It's fine.

(31:44):
Yeah, sorry if you hear anyrandom noises. Roscoe literally has no
ability to be silent. It's notin his genetic makeup. Uh okay,
where were we? So they're yellingfor him? Looking for him, they
ended up assuming maybe he got liketoo tired and ended up just like leaving

(32:04):
the bar, like walking back tohis apartment because it was only like six
blocks away. It wasn't too far. So eventually I guess it wasn't that
weird. And after looking for him, they were like, Okay, well,
I guess he just like took offon his own, And what's the
worst. Yeah, yeah, he'sso close to home. He's a big
adult guy, grown man. What'sthe worst that could happen? This is

(32:27):
also what the aughts? The twothousands? Is that what they're called the
aughts? Yeah? I had noidea, right, I just called them
the two thousands the naughty ADDI it'sthe NAUGHTI addis on learning terms. Yeah,
it was two thousand and six.Okay, I'm trying to remember if
we had a cell phone yet. This is also if you're in his cell
phones early yeah, I would sayearly cell phones. Also, this is

(32:50):
before Uber, right. I alsohad that thought and I was like,
ooh, when did Uber exist? And that was in two thousand and nine,
which is really weird to think about. But yeah, it's not like
it was a lot more recent intwo thousand and nine. That's wild.
It probably wasn't as like pop.It probably took a while to get like
really popular, because I remember hearingabout Uber but not using it yet,
you know. Yeah, so yeah, I guess. So, I mean,
I guess back in those days itwas just taxis or walking with bus

(33:15):
ride or yeah, yeah, youknow what I mean. It's just I
had to like, I don't know, I just had to put myself back
in that time and I'm like,oh, yeah, Uber wasn't a thing.
Yeah anyways, So yeah, Imean, obviously they're thinking, what's
the worst. He's an adult man, they just saw him. He must
have just left. We gotta go. So they left. Alexis his girlfriend
tries to reach him all week andlong but with no luck. But when

(33:39):
Monday rolls around, she still goesto the airport and waits for Oh man,
Oh that's so sad. Can youimagining imagine the anxiety of just waiting
in that build up of like he'sstill not shown up. He's still not
shown up? No, like likewe're about to go to Miami for our
trip together from him all weekend, which I'm sure is out of character.

(34:02):
That would be a mess. Iwould I mean, I don't even know.
If I would have gone to theairport, I'd probably be calling it.
I think she was just so hopeful. I mean, I mean I
probably would just in case. Yeahthat's true. Man, You're like,
did he ghost me? Like? Are we? Yeah? Like is it
me? Or are we broken up? Is how he's breaking up with me?

(34:22):
I like yeah, I just can'timagine the thoughts and the anxiety around
that. So, yeah, shestill goes to the airports and wait for
him, and when it's finally timeto board the plane, Brian is still
not there. So this is whenshe ends up calling his dad and because
that was something Brian would have nevermissed that trip, so they were like,

(34:42):
there's something wrong, Yeah, missingpersons report is now made. Okay,
so the investigation starts Columbus, Ohio, where OSU is is actually the
city in Ohio that has the mostsecurity cameras. Really, yes, so
much so that it has more thanthe cities of Cleveland, Cincinnati, and

(35:07):
Toledo all combined. And those arelike, why I do think there was
like more crime. Okay, maybebecause it's also a university, but it's
just yeah, they really it's reallyheavily camera there, surveillan surveill. Yeah,
but that's crazy. It makes iteven more infuriating to me, right

(35:31):
that he just disappeared, so surelybecause this is camera's abound. Surely Brian
is seen on some of these cameras. So the police go right to work,
and of course they start at theUgly Tuna, so they are scanning
all of the security footage from theUgly Tuna. Brian and Clint and Meredith

(35:54):
are all seen together riding up anescalator to the bar because it's a second
floor. Okay, so you gointo a building and go up an escalator
and then there's the bar. Okay. The camera says it's one fifteen am.
Brian is wearing an olive green Tshirt, blue jeans, and white
shoes. Okay, Brian is sixto two. He's pretty fit, like

(36:19):
he has muscles. He's super goodlooking. Okay, I'm sorry, but
I'm sorry, but he's beautiful. He is easy on the eyes. He
has short, dark hair with theshort you know haircut, super big hazel
eyes, very strong jaw and chin. He has like those deep smile lines

(36:43):
that we all love. I mean, she does love with Brian. I
mean he's cute. Like, Okay, so do you know Dylan McDermott.
Yes, he looks like his youngerbrother or son. He's very that good
looking, like all American, veryclassic good looking, like like Brad Pitt
vibes. Like even if he's notyour type, you know, he's a
good looking person. Like dudes, admit he's a good looking good so he

(37:07):
would stuck out kind of like youwould notice him. Yeah, like he
I mean, I don't know ifyou'd say average, but like he's a
good looking You have to like pauseand like take it in. Yeah,
you have to. You're stuck byhis handsomeness. Like time slows, tall
boks in a room and he justslowly shakes his hair out I think maybe

(37:28):
he smells good. I bet hesmells He smells really good. Probably look
at him and be like, yeah, he smells good. He just has
to do that whole like hand inthe hair thing, and then just like
everyone's pants off. He's like,I do have that effect on people.
Sorry, you put your pants backon. So I mean, like that's
what this guy looks like though,Okay, So I mean it's just it's

(37:50):
more intriguing to me. Is thatterrible to say? But it's just like
it's just I don't know, makesit more like what the fuck happened?
You know? Sure, I don'tknow. So that At the security camera
at one fifty five am, Brianis seen at the bottom of the camera.
Again, it's right outside the entranceof the bar, and he's chatting

(38:10):
with two other girls, oh randomgirls that are there outside. There's also
two security guards that you see thatare like right next to him in the
camera or their pants are all on. Yes, okay, okay, yes,
So everyone looks relaxed and normal.Brian isn't like stumbling, he's not

(38:30):
acting obviously drunk. It just looksnormal. Okay. Then he walks off
camera in the direction of the entrance, so it looks like he goes right
back into the bar. Real quick. Okay. So it's two am that
the bar closes. I know.I was just thinking you said that the
other two left around and he wasout there at one fifty something. Yeah,

(38:52):
you see him on the camera atone fifty five. They're all still
there there. They don't leave untilclosing time, which is at two.
But that's only five minutes. It'sonly five minutes. It's only five freaking
minutes. Okay, how is that? Pop? I just don't know if
he went back into the bar.He went back into the bar, okay,
because there's no other there's no otherdirection. I think he could have

(39:15):
gone. Waitbe he said he wasseen outside or he was seen in the
lobby. He was seen outside ofthe entrance to the bar. So like
by the escalator again, like betweenthe escalator and the door, okay,
that area. Okay, so youhave to go back up the escalator to
get to the bar. No,sorry, So they're scene going up the

(39:35):
escalator. Then there's like an openingand then there's the entrance to the bar,
and the camera is looking right atthe very top of the escalator.
Oh okay, Okay, So they'rescene going in. He's seen right at
the entrance again off the side ofthe esk, the top of the escalators.
Gotcha. And the direction he goesin the only place to go is
back inside to the bar. There'sno other doors or directions. It's a

(39:58):
closing to the entrance of the bar. So goes that direction the only way,
the only way. I thing he'sdoing is going inside the bar.
Gotcha. I was like, well, if he's outside, you could have,
you know, gone somewhere else.I guess if there's an escalator.
But okay, so that's the logicalchoice. He's going back into the bar,
right that is the last time he'sseen it. Okay. It's very
confusing. The police are literally ableto account for everyone who walks into that

(40:23):
bar on camera then also leaves outthe same exit on camera. Every person
they see going in comes out exceptfor Brian. I want to ask too
many questions yet, but I reallywant to know is there only one entrance
and exit to that bar? Youare so reasonable as for asking questions.

(40:44):
As a white woman in my thirties, I do believe I can solve crimes,
So yes, I will get tothat in one second. There's also
I'll mention, there's no extra personson camera. There's like no one that
appears to be in disguise. Okay, it's just who they see coming in

(41:05):
is the exact people they see comingout, except for Brian, which is
so weird. So weird. Yes, but since they just saw him,
I know, five freaking minutes.I don't understand the five freaking minutes.
Very strange. That's what really irksme. Okay, so there is one
other exit he technically could have gonethrough at the time, but this led

(41:27):
to an area that was fully undermajor construction. No person really could have
gone through it. I know, keep that, keep it, kind of
put it in my little pocket ifI don't have pockets because we're women.
We're women and we're not allowed tohave them. Ah, it's the worst.

(41:50):
Fo gets bigger pockets than I do. I know, even Ryland gets
pockets, and I'm like, whyyou don't. You literally don't need them.
We're gonna do put a wood chipin there, like leaf she always
collects. Leave. Okay, policestudy all of the other cameras also,
like from the other buildings that arenear the bar. Okay, no one

(42:14):
even close to Brian's appearance is seenon any of the other cameras as well.
What the fuck? I know,it really seems as if Brian never
physically left the bar area. SoI guess this is one of the theories.
But I don't know, I wantto say that, Okay, I

(42:36):
mean, it's just maybe. Iguess I'll just say it later. Okay,
let's just take a break, rightnow, Okay, Hi, Hi,
all right. So, okay,so you might be thinking, well,

(42:59):
did he find all in the constructionsarea? Maybe he was thinking that
I kind of knew you were.Yeah, so maybe he was like drunk
or maybe by accident he like fellthrough something couldn't get out. I don't
know. Sure, that's kind ofwhat I lead to. But then,
okay, so I'm sure we're notthe only ones thinking that. The police
then take cadaver dogs and they're goingin and around the building. They're even

(43:22):
checking dumpsters and the sewage areas. There's no scent or trace of him at
all. Interesting, So I mean, I guess, maybe do you trust
all cadaver dogs or they are thebest boys and girls? But they are
the best boys and girls. Imean, there's probably a lot of smells.
I would imagine, like, butthey know what the difference is with

(43:45):
like human remains. Oh yeah, definitely they would, they would be able
to pick that out. But like, were they able to pick up his
scent? I wonder, like Idon't know, but think they were able
to track him from the bar,Like were they because there's so many you
know, people sense in there.I wonder if they able to pick him
up individually. Yeah, I don'tknow, but I mean, I mean

(44:05):
they've freaking tried, and still nothingwas leading them to Brian doug on it.
They tried their artist. Oh yousweet sweet okay, sweet sweet idiot?
No okay, So okay, Sothe dapper dogs are no are a

(44:27):
no okay. So if you remember, his apartment is only six blocks away
from the bar. They check outhis apartment obviously two. His car is
still parked outside, and there's nothingamiss inside the apartment. Nothing looks to
be touched. It was kind ofexactly how he left it, okay.
Both his father Randy and his friendMeredith were asked to take a polygraph test,

(44:51):
and they both passed. When Brian'sfront Clint, was asked to take
one, he did refuse, andhe did immediately lawyer up. I mean,
that's his right, it's absolutely hisright. And honestly, yeah,
a lot of people pause here becauselike, yes, your initial reaction is
like hm, why like sketch susor whatever. But that's also something probably

(45:15):
I would do, knowing what Iknow now, you know what I mean,
like that's the smart thing to do. Absolutely innocent, you need to
lawyer up and not like you,I would do the exact same thing,
honestly, And I don't trust polygraphslike people don't and as they shouldn't because
they're not known to be solid.Course it doesn't even trusts polygraphs. Yeah,
so I mean I guess it's Iwrote it as like it's something,

(45:36):
but it's also nothing at all,it truly because like they saw him leave
the bar, Clinton right, theysaw Clinton Meredith leave the bar, so
like they're accounted for. I feellike I would be like, well,
clearly they're grasping at anything and tryingto find someone to pin this on at
this point, like I'm not gonnalet them have that be meat. What
I'm trying to say, I mean, you're one of the last people to

(45:57):
see him. You of course youwould naturally kind of be a suspect.
And I think if you know that, I would be nervous too, and
of course, like I would wantall of the protection I could get.
Yeah, and you know, Imean and if they cleared Meredith and they
left together. Sure, yes, you're a good point, Like, and
what is he going to have donein five minutes? You're right, no
cadaver dogs picking up a scent?Sure? So yeah, I have good

(46:21):
points. I do the same thing. Yeah, it's it's not really that
weird. We don't like your name, Clint, but we do respect you,
we do respect your rights. Ithink I only heard on one podcast
that there might have been a disagreementslash maybe altercation between Clint and Brian that

(46:42):
night. But again, you knowthat's only five minutes time, right,
what would have really happened? Likethe only thing I can think of,
like, oh, did he pushhim down the construction site area and then
leave and somehow? But yeah, how would that not have been witnessed?
Still, the dogs didn't pick upa sense, so it's like m m,
yeah, it's tough. I don'tI'm also not sure like how true

(47:06):
that is, Okay, that therewas an altercation or maybe just even a
disagreement, like I don't know, that's allowed. It's allowed, you can
have a disagreement. I think it'sjust Yeah, I think it's just people
maybe like kind of grasping like ohhe he is more involved or knows something.
I don't know. Okay, anyways, Uh, there's also the two
girls that were last seeing talking withBrian, like right before he left or

(47:27):
back into the bar, probably mesmerizedby his smile, his good looks.
But they said that they were nevertalked to by the police and weren't asked
to take a polygraph. But maybethat's because it didn't really shouldn't matter.
It was such a quick interaction.Yeah, like what are they're gonna know?
Yeah, but I mean it wouldhave been interesting to well maybe you'll
say, but like what they weretalking about or like true, I think

(47:52):
I kind of sorry, I don'tknow like which exact podcast it was because
I listened to a few, butyeah, I don't. I think there
was just like maybe kind of aflirtatious nothing serious. Yeah, cute back
and forth, cute young people ata bar, cure young people at the
bar. You're gonna yeah, andshooting their shot. It doesn't seem like

(48:14):
anything serious or important, you know, but yeah, good Good points back
to Alexis being this is what hearingher side of it. But she's devastated.
Obviously, she lost the love ofher life in her early twenties.
They were going to like start theirlife together. Just like not knowing what
happened. Not knowing is also justso infuriating. I would hate it.

(48:37):
How would you not think about thatlike every single day? Like what happened?
For sure? What would my lifehave been like? Well, one
heartbreaking detail is that one of herways to kind of cope or deal with
it. As the months and weekswere going along, she was calling Brian's
cell phone number every night, butit would always go straight to voicemail.

(48:59):
Yeah, just hear his voicemail.Uh yeah, probably that's sad, okay,
but then this is weird. Sosix months later, in September of
that year, two than six,she calls his number and for the first
time ever, it rings three times, and so that's like the best sound

(49:21):
she's ever heard. She's like, even though no one answered, it gave
me a slight possibility of hope.Oh that's so eerie. Because that means
like the phone had to have beenturned on or working, like not dead
right right when his this number notdisconnected or like maybe they kept paying for
it just in case. Ooh goodquestion. I don't know, because you

(49:45):
think they would. I would justjust assume it it would die or he
you know. I mean, butlike your phone, like if you don't
pay for your phone bill, likeif you're not using it, wouldn't they
get disconnected? So maybe they were. Maybe they were still just for it.
Yeah, maybe just for the hopesthat he still had it. Weird
anyway, so this happens and it'sweird. So this means that the phone

(50:06):
was able to ping a nearby tower. Oh yeah, so this tower was
fourteen miles or twenty three kilometers awayfrom the city of Columbus. Okay,
so it's still in Ohio. However, the cell phone provider at the time
explained this as an unfortunate glitch, like they don't think it's anything. It
didn't amount to anything. It's justlike just a fluke, terrible thing that

(50:30):
happened that kind of gave him hope. Yeah, what the heck. It's
just a weird detail and was ifit run especially six months later. Yeah,
right, that's weird. It's veryweird. That's why I mentioned it.
Tell me where that tower is,I'm going looking. Okay, So
Randy the dad who if like hejust lost his wife to Canaca. Oh,

(50:52):
you're right, and then his sunpoor and now he's literally searching for
his oldest son one month. Ifyou didn't put those two dates together,
God, that is that's devastating yourwife and your first born, Oh,
Randy, and such weird like not, I guess cancer isn't weird, but

(51:13):
that's traumatic. And then this mysteryof like your son disappearing without a trace.
That poor guy, there's just likeno no time to process, no
time to process, man psych Okay, so he's determined to find his son
Brian. And so I mean I'dprobably do this too in this situation.
I would go to a psychic justfor anything, just in case they were

(51:37):
right or whatever. I mean, yeah, I mean, every once in
a while they can turn up somethingthat hasn't been considered or I do believe
some totally have good intentions to workwith police like and people like this,
but it also bothers me because Ifeel like, as not some of them
I know there's so many stories ofones that gave people false hope or there's

(52:00):
but then there's also other ones thatlike help solve crimes. I'm like,
and that we're right. Yes,so you never know, So I guess
I would definitely take the chance andjust you know, if you know who
you are empty anyway, I mean, you might as well see if there's
something out there. Yeah, that'strue. So and I also like kind
of think this is the stereotypical thingfor psychics say. But of course when

(52:22):
he goes to a psychic, they'resaying, oh, well, I see
that his body is in a bodyof water near a bridge. I just
always feel like they're always saying itthey're in water. Yeah, so just
me yah, eh man, Idon't know enough, I guess to have
a definitive. You haven't listened tomany psychics in your life. I I

(52:44):
have listened to a few. Uh. The first one was that Seaside lady
that we went to. Yeah,it's a real one, we went she
was wrong. Yeah. I watchedSylvia Brown a lot. She wasn't always
right. Yeah. I watched DonEdwards sometimes. I don't think he's the
best. John Edwards yeah, Iremember John Edwards. Oh, Michael,
Michael does he's like super fan overhere during the like talk show times,

(53:08):
it was, oh the times anyways. Yeah, I just feel like that's
always something that's like the stereotypical thingsI could say, I think vague.
It's very vague, you know, yeah, body of water, which is
also really hard to search through.Yeah, that's very true. Like it's
hard to prove if it's them wrongbecause and you're obviously not specific. Yeah

(53:30):
maybe they were. Yeah, yeah, anyways, so they run with this
because what else are they gonna do? They were gonna try everything. So
they so Randy and then he hisonly son left was named Derek, and
he's just slightly younger than Brian.Sorry. So they would search the shores

(53:51):
of the river together themselves on theirfree time. They would get like those
big like rubber pants and just likewalk through the hip waders. Is that
what they're called. Yes, yes, I think you're right. Big rubber
pants is funny though, big rubberpants. Gotta get my big rubber pants
on. Yeah, but I meanjust sad to have to do that on

(54:13):
your time. Really depressing looking forany sign of your son. Anyways.
So they do that. It's heartbreaking, but of course nothing turns up.
Okay. Then just two years later, okay, things get worse. What
It's September of two thousand and eight, and tragedy struck the family again.

(54:35):
Now, poor Randy, is it? Randy? There was a massive windstorm
and Randy was outside trying to cleanup falling debris. Randy when, in
true freak accident fashion, somehow atree branch fell, flew and fatally hit
him. Randy. No, what, m okay, that family has a

(55:00):
curse on them. I think Iwould be scared because that's three traumatic ways
to go, and they're all sodifferent, also different, and all within
like two to three years span atime. God, like just a branch,
like a tree branch, probably likehitting his head, I assume.

(55:21):
Yeah, Oh my god, that'sawful. His body wasn't found until the
next morning. He was just layingoutside. So yeah, can you imagine
being Derek, the last one?Poor Derek, my god, like,
his entire immediate family gone within twoyears, gone in such crazy, weird,
traumatic ways. How do you evenlike tell anyone about that? Because

(55:45):
that just sounds so much therapy.Yeah. I would also be like scared
if I were him, like,I would feel like you'd be like in
final destination in life, final destination, Like it's coming after me? What
weird? Way am I gonna go? Yeah, he's alive and well,
but okay, he made it,but like tear, what I tear?
Such a young age too to haveto do with it was like mid twenties,

(56:08):
So sad. That's I just can'timagine that poor guy. Yes,
okay, so a few more weirdthings. Randy's obituary was posted online on
a form where people could comment onit, okay, And there was a
comment that popped up that was weirdand it said to dad love Brian with

(56:28):
proventheses saying us Virgin Islands. WhatThat was a whole comment. That was
a whole comment, and so obviouslypolice had to still investigate it. I
guess that could be a place thathe could go with just his idea on
hand, if he were to somehowescape and start a whole new life.

(56:49):
I don't know, every possibility atthis point is possible. Why why though?
Yeah? So, I mean theytracked the IP address pretty quickly and
the comment was from a sick personclose by in Ohio who just thought it
was funny. See. That's whyall of these like red herrings are always
almost always just red herrings because people, I don't get people suck. I

(57:10):
do not understand taking time out ofyour life to purposely do something so shitty
like that, knowing it's gonna causesomeone who's already gone through a ton of
shit more pain yecause they're gonna. They're gonna even if they're like that's probably
not real, they probably have atiny kernel of hope, like make sure

(57:31):
and like the police still have toinvestigate it, so you're just wasting their
time and money and resources and like, yeah, you don't think about the
family, like that's so sick.Yeah, and they are asked why,
they're just like I don't know.I just thought it was those funny I
don't Yeah, our voice, that'swhat they sound like. Yeah, bro

(57:52):
oh god that makes me so mad. Yeah. I do not get people,
And people do that a lot andit's really weird and you shouldn't do
that. So there's also a briefperiod of time where police investigated the theory
that Brian fell victim to the SmileyFace killer. Oh that bell, Yeah
it does, so I guess themfor that was young college men that were

(58:16):
found killed and left in bodies ofwater. If I'm remembering it correctly,
I'm not that sounds familiar, superfamiliar with the Smiley Face Killer, but
I think it. Yeah, itwas young men. Yeah, it was
young college men. So he kindof fit the profile. But if he
was one of the Smiley Face Killervictims, he would be the only one
whose body wasn't found. And wasit even in that area? Was that

(58:39):
where he was operating in? Ithink I think technically the Smiley Face Killer
was a few across a few states, so it was in line. It
could have been in line with that, okay path if there were the trucker
or not more than one trucker serialkiller, Yeah, it's probably a trucker.
I also heard that I don't know, you should look into the Smiley
Face Killer. I'm not sure itactually on my list, but serial killers

(59:01):
are just so daunting to train.I don't I'm not sure they even found
the Smiley Case killer, or ifthey might be right, they might they
think that he doesn't exist, ormaybe there's connecting cases that don't actually connect
kind of thing. Maybe maybe it'sjust a coincidence. That their smiley faces
painted by these I don't know, something to look into. Something you should

(59:22):
definitely look into. Not me,but you you should not going to be
doing that, but you should doit. You should do Okay, Michael's
probably looking at the Wikipedia page forit as we speak. Is that what
you're doing? I do it?Any way? Wait? Do they exist?
Do they ext? I just started? Okay, we'll get back to

(59:42):
him. Okay, okay. Soeven the FBI looked into this theory and
they got involved, and they determinedthemselves that Brian's case wasn't related. It
just didn't seem to fit enough,so they don't think it's related. Well,
they also don't have like a body, so it's like, yeah,
that's also true. Like that sucks. They can't even say that he's dead

(01:00:05):
technically. Yeah, I hate it. So there's that. Then Clint's attorney,
named Neil Rosenberg, decided to contactthe private investigator that is working for
the Schaeffer family. His name isDon Corrett Corey. I don't know because
it end in two t's in ane going with the French pronunciation or American.

(01:00:31):
Yeah, I don't know, it'sit's both. I'm sorry, okay.
Anyways, regarding why his client Clintrefused to take the polygraph, he
already told the police or no,do I want to read that? It's
free country. You can read it. Okay, let me see. I

(01:00:52):
might just repeat it a little bitlater. Anyways, But he was saying
he already told the police all thathe knew, and he didn't see the
value retelling it, okay, whichI guess I can call also get but
whatever. So Rosenberg himself then saidhe had a reason to believe that Brian
was still alive because he learned thatthe Columbus police might think Brian is still

(01:01:14):
alive. That's what he's saying, not the Columbus police, So it could
be I don't know, huh.So he's quoted, if Brian is alive,
which is what I'm led to believeafter speaking with the detective involved,
then it is Brian and not Clintwho is causing the family pain and hardship,

(01:01:35):
Rosenberg wrote, Because that's the lawyersaying that. Yeah, that's Clint's
attorney, okay, And he continuesto say, Brian should come forward and
end this so high truck there's abig bad truck outside. Sorry, there's
a bunch of Brad's Chads and Trevorsthat live next door her. Brad's Chads
and Trevors. I think I allhave trucks. Yeah, okay, that's

(01:01:59):
a weird thing for the attorney tosay. If the if that's like going
directly against what the police are saying, unless they're holding back information they're holding
back. Oh so yeah, Ijust don't it's it's coming from the attorney
so that. I just wanted tomake that clear, so it could be
just him saying it, I guessto like take the heat off of his

(01:02:19):
client. Yeah, I mean he'sjust fully saying that it's Brian's still alive
and it's Brian's fault for putting hisfamily through this not clearly. Well,
if that's not true, that's avery shitty thing to say, very shitty.
Excuse me, sir, I know, I don't like it. Derek
is quoted. I've always thought hedefinitely knows something, he just won't come

(01:02:39):
forward with it. So Derek thebrother does still kind of have hope that
Schaeffer is alive. Hmm. Butthat okay, So then he's also quoted
if Brian did take off somewhere ifthat is the case. We just always
had a strong feeling that Clint wouldpossibly know that, so would know that.

(01:03:02):
Yeah, oh and there that's whythey're suspicious of him, right,
and that that Clint is still holdinginformation if he knows where Brian is or
if Brian wanted to vanish escapes ournew life, he knows it. That's
what his brother is. His outlookis kind of at let's see, Yeah,

(01:03:27):
would Brian run away? Oh?I guess Okay, I forgot to
mention this too. So the theoryof Brian possibly running away to start new
life gets fire because in a badway or good way. Sorry, I'm
sorry, feel to the fire,I should say. I was like,
like gen Z, Well, maybethey don't say fire anymore, but I'm

(01:03:51):
really showing my age needs to bea good thing. I know, I
still call things fire. That's probablygross to say, No, it is
very cringe. Sorry, but fuelto the fire I should say with this
theory because I guess, you know, in Brian's old social media days when
it was MySpace, Shungin's there wason five was in top eight. Oh

(01:04:15):
yeah, you're probably right. Maybeit moved to a top five. Yeah,
it was a glorious time in theinternet where you could rank your friends.
You can rank your friends, poston a bulletin a song, have
a song. This is where howwe how we all learned how to code
and make our own profile themes.Yeah. Anyway, So on Brian's MySpace,
I guess there's record of him sayinglike how much he loves like the

(01:04:40):
tropical lifestyle and that's like what hestrives for. He wants to actually start
a band and like play Jimmy Buffettkind of music. Okay and so and
he I think also said online beforethat, which is really kind of funny.
But he was like, Yeah, this doctor thing, I hope is
really temper like, it's not mymain thing. I want to start a

(01:05:01):
band and live the best life.Doctor is not a casual thing to pursue.
I know. I was like,Wow, what a thing to think
casually of just massive amounts of moneyin school for a doctorate eight to ten
year endeavor I'm going on. It'sjust my backup plan. I think he
was like maybe thinking, or Iguess if you're going this route, if
you have that mindset like get richquick, even though it's not quick at

(01:05:25):
all. And you have so manybills to pay after that, but and
then maybe retire early and live theyou know, tropical island lifestyle, like
who wouldn't sure who? Everyone dreamsthat. Yeah, but anyways, he
could just be saying that, likethose are his dreams. It honestly could
be a joke. People don't knowhow serious to really take it, but

(01:05:47):
I guess they kind of grasp onthat part of it if they think he
did just wanted to start a newlife or whatever. He's like playing the
bass somewhere on the beach with longhair. I would, oh soo.
It just made me think of likethat scene in Barbie when Ken was just
serenading her with guitar. It's themost the best scene of fallse time actually

(01:06:11):
the rest great movie. Okay,so Alexis the girlfriend also thinks that Clint
is withholding information, but she doesbelieve that it's more likely that her former

(01:06:35):
boyfriend is dead because she's quoted.I just or I can't imagine he would
have just done that. Yeah,it's so sad the timing. People think
like maybe he was so grief strickenabout his mom and school was maybe too
stressful snapped, But like I feellike a strong so far, there's just

(01:07:00):
there's no indicate indications like, yeah, you would want to pack stuff,
you would want to have a passportmaybe, I'm sure your credit cards would
be tracked, Like how do youand it? I mean obviously throughout the
years and months they check his accounts, there's no activity. Yeah. See,
I just feel like he would havewithdrawn all the money he had,

(01:07:23):
I mean at least right yeah beforethat. And why would you go out
drinking all night to then leave whenyou're exhausted, And why would you miss
a paid vacation from your you know, deceased mom, right like that you're
so close with, Like it wasgonna be in kind of a more tropical

(01:07:43):
location, like he was looking forwardto it because he is into those vibes.
Like duh. It's just I don'tfeel like he just left and disappeared
me neither in my personal opinion. But like, sorry, that's a Heather
thing. I love it, heygirl, I still love from her.
But yeah, like, and hedidn't have any indication on the phone with
her that he like it was somelast conversation. I don't think they were

(01:08:03):
having like problems or fights. Imean they were literally thinking he was gonna
propose. Yeah, but then it'slike, what happened? Honestly, how
does a six to two guy vanishwithin five minutes inside of a building?
That is so bizarre And like Iwant they must have checked the security footage

(01:08:25):
and the surrounding areas just to see, like, yet passed up anywhere I
mentioned that, Yeah, yeah,so what I don't understand it. It's
so bizarre, like in a city, Like he's not seen anywhere else in
the city, right, and itwould be hard to overpower someone that size,
true, so I do lean morelike accident mm hmm. But then

(01:08:50):
it's like, well, why didn'tdog smell him? Or like I believe
that the ugly tuna has now closedsince like twenty eighteen. I think I
think they would have looked, ohyeah, and like during the rest of
construction, you'd write you had noticedit down yeah something or smelled something unless
you found him and then wanted tocover it up. But then like,

(01:09:12):
why, yeah, you're not thegovernment, like just like there's no there's
no yeah, I mean bad repbut still like, so are we going
with aliens or I ratherical aliens, wouldn't you? Yeah, Like he got
abducted. That's the only logical answer. It's so, this is why it
bothers me so much. It doesn'tmake any sense to me. Yeah,

(01:09:33):
especially since we see him on cameraand then there's just no trace. It's
one of those stories. It justdrives you insane, drives me insane trying
to think of what the f happened? Uh huh when there's so few options.
Right, So, Columbus police saythey do have three theories on what

(01:09:53):
happened with Brian, but they willnot discuss these theories in public. Why
even say you have three? Right? That's annoying. Now we know that
there's threeations, So now I'm justhaving to wonder what the three are,
right, I'm so curious. ButI'm sure there's a reason. I would
hope there's a good reason for notdiscussing them. It's also frustrating because in

(01:10:15):
cases like these, there's always moreinformation that they just don't release because it
was a killer or something like theyhave to save that information. It's true,
and I get it, and thatsucks. Yeah, Like who am
I I don't deserve it, butthe information, but I want to know.
Sure, sure I understand why theycan't release it, but it's just
so frustrating. Frustrating. In twentynineteen, real quick, we're almost done.

(01:10:38):
Okay, the America, there wasan American homeless or houseless I don't
know PC version. Oh what isthe PC now? I think it is
houseless house? Is it house?I think it's houseless, unhoused, unhoused,
thank you. I think that's theright one. Yes, okay.
So there was an American unhoused manfound wandering in Mexico. The FBI was

(01:11:01):
informed they were able to like trackhim down in some way, but in
the end they were able to usefacial recognition to officially determine that it was
not Brian. Okay, but Iguess he looked a lot like him.
Oh okay. It was like, why was the FBI caring about some random
man? I guess, I meanbecause they strong jaw. But dang jah,

(01:11:24):
however, I guess there's there's twomarks on Brian that are really distinct,
and that's one of it. Iforget, which I apologize, but
there's an eye that has a verybig fleck in the color part of the
eye, so they mentioned, yeah, so they imagined that detail, and
he has one tattoo on I believehis right arm of the stick figure from

(01:11:45):
Pearl Jam's album Alive. So Iguess those are the distinct features that are
kind of on his flyer to lookout for if you see it. As
of this year, twenty twenty four, it's been eighteen year since Brian has
disappeared. He would be forty fiveyears old today. He was twenty seven
when he vanished. God, that'sso sad. It's so sad. I

(01:12:10):
don't understand, and you just there'sno way I feel like he would have
stayed disappeared, especially after his daddied, like, yeah, he still
has his brother, Like why wouldn'tyou want to be in contact with your
brother? Yeah, I just Idon't think. I don't think he's alive.
I don't either, which is reallysad. I don't understand how he
don't have his body. What theheck? Don't understand what happened? Like,

(01:12:32):
what the fuck? I feel likeOver the years, I will probably
keep googling this one just to seeif there's any updates, because obviously there
was this like twenty nineteen. Yeah, you know, I guess a little
update, but I mean, God'sShane Age There's been a lot of cases
solved that no one ever thought wasgonna get solved, So you just really
never know. But then that's likeyou don't have DNA or anything left from

(01:12:53):
him. Maybe they'll someday randomly finda body and it'll be his, But
I don't know why or what happenedto him or what it's it's a hard
far on it. I know it'svery feeling, and I'm sorry, but
that's all I got ruining my afternoon. I got obsess over what happened.
My wheels are spinning. Yeah, this one really bucks me. So I'm

(01:13:15):
curious to think what other people think. But yeah, what are your thoughts,
what are your theories? M sorry, Brian and fam Oh yeah,
that's really sad. It is reallysad. Well, okay, the end,
the end, All right? Doyou want to hear my cockroach story.
It was a cockroach You're right.I was looking forward to the cockroach

(01:13:38):
story, just to break this bummerof a story up a little bit.
Tell us all about it. Sowe saw a few cockroaches in the house,
which I mean whatever, It's Mexico. Hello, cockroaches love to be
everywhere everywhere. Yeah, I'm not. I wasn't like scared of them.
I saw them a couple times onthe floor whatever. However, I did

(01:14:00):
not appreciate when one of them decidedto crawl on my arm in the bed
at like one thirty in the morning. Could you see it? Was there
lights or did you just feel it? Ew? Okay, so my hair
just tickled my neck and I freakedout. Oh my god. Okay,

(01:14:23):
So I like just got into bedbecause I was like doing my outside calm
thing. And then it was likeone o'clock. I decided to go to
bed. The lights are out,the fans going. I'm trying to like
shove Chat a little bit because he'ssnoring a little too much, and I
really want to fall asleep, Andso I have my arm across a baby's
in the middle of us. We'reall in one bed, it had to
be that way, and I'm soI have my arm across her, and

(01:14:45):
then my arm touching Chad's shoulder, and I'm just like kind of just barely
trying to get to sleep. I'mlike about there, you know, yeah,
in that kind of hazy state.Yes, And then all of a
sudden, I feel the most disgustingcrawley bug, which ended up being the
cockroage crawl across my arm. Iflew my arm up, not knowing where

(01:15:08):
it was going, like I justgot a phantom tickle on my arm and
I scream. I'm like, Iwas like, turn on the light,
turn on the light. And Chadjust like jumps out of bed so confused,
and he's like, okay, lightlight. And then I'm like,
where'd they wear? Are they? And it was crawling on baby's blanket that
you made her. She was stillcuddled even though it was so hot.

(01:15:30):
Oh she still had to have thatblanket. And it was crawling on the
blanket and I was here that bugtouch that blanket. I know. I
was like, oh my god,it's on the baby. And so then
I just take the blanket and Ifling it off and it's sorry, Ry,
let me have to burn this now. It flies into the hallway and
then they like, you know, broom it outside. But like I woke
up the whole house. The momscome coming up from their bed. They're

(01:15:53):
like, what's wrong, Oh mygod, what's wrong? And I'm like
then Chad's like they're like speating howit got on the bed or whatever.
And then they were like, well, maybe maybe it crawled on you because
you were spending time outside and thenyou brought it in into the bed and
I was like, that doesn't makeme feel any better. Actually, it
makes me feel a lot worse. So you're saying I'm a cockroach TAXI is

(01:16:14):
that what you're saying. I waslike, that thing is huge. I
would have felt it crawl on myskimpy little cover up that I was wearing
that so light because it was sohot. You didn't have like jeans on
hers. Absolutely not. It wasnot on me. It crawled up into
the bed and violated my space,is what it did. That baby never
woke up a miracle. Wow,that is a miracle because I've heard the

(01:16:35):
volume that you get when you're panicked. Thanks, but yeah, validly so
during this moment and then served tobe lou that is horrifying. It was
so gross. And then we're justlike sleeping with a sheet and the fans
blowing on us, so I canfeel the sheet, you know, like
tickle me and move and I'm justlike laying there now like paranoid, and
he's like, are you okay? And I was like, no, every

(01:16:56):
touch that I'm feeling is upsetting me. Actually, right now, I don't
feel safe, hyper aware, piper, aware of everything touching me right now.
So that's my fun little cockroach storyfrom Mexico. I survived a cockroach.
Wow. Hey, you're probably astronger woman for it. Thank you.
I've grown. I've grown from thisexperience. You survived turbulence and a

(01:17:18):
cockroach. Wow. I deserve anaward. I should gives you, like
make you some like little girl scoutpatches and one has a giant cockroach on
it. The other one is justa plane. I'll take it. Yeah,
I'll take it. All the fearsI've conquered. Wow. I mean,
we saw some creepy crawleys in Thailand. There was like, I don't
we never found it. But inour room there was one on something on

(01:17:40):
the wall that fell to the floor. We searched for it forever. Gecko
couldn't find it, couldn't find agecko. I was like convinced it was
a huge spider. But we sawa lot of geckos. They make a
lot of loud noise, but they'recute. They're cute, they're not creepy
anyway. Should we do city ofthe week. Oh my god, let's
do that real quick. Let's dowhat do it? Oh my god?

(01:18:11):
