Speaker 1 (00:00):
Do you know what is Appetite for Distortion?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Welcome to the podcast Appetite for Distortion, episode number four
hundred in eighty six.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
My name is Brando.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
We probably will join us later my sotimes co host,
Baby Brownstone. He's currently playing with blocks in his little
play area lots surrounded by dinosaurs and Natra turtle stuff.
But when he gets bored, he'll probably probably join us.
And by the way, when he turns two next in April,
do I still call him Baby Brownstone? Does it have

(01:00):
to be? There was a toddler. We'll get into that.
Let's talk about twenty twenty four. This is the year
in review for Guns n' Roses for Appetite for Distortion.
So let's kind of talk about what guns and Roses
did or didn't do which was scheduled not to be done,
if that made sense, and then some of the guests

(01:22):
that we've had this year and some of the episodes
that we've done. So first of all, let's start off
with Slash, the guy who is always always busy, of course,
Orgy of the Damned. His blues album, a blues covers album.
There was one original on it, an instrumental metal Chestnut
that was on it, but a new album with a

(01:43):
lot of different singers, kind of going back to what
he did on his twenty ten album with all those
singers like Ozzie and Adam Levine and when he started
with Miles, kind of starting the friendship there. And also
the tour, the Serpent Festival tour. So I I enjoyed
the album. You can read a review on the website
afdpod dot com, and was lucky enough to see Slash

(02:07):
come to Peer seventeen this summer in New York City,
which if if you've never been, as a very very
cool venue. It's on a rooftop, the rooftop at Peer seventeen,
so you're overlooking New York City.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Initially, when I bought the tickets, in my head, I
kind of wanted to bring my son started taking him
to concerts. I was kind of jealous that my wife
had already taken him to Dave Matthews. But the big
difference is that's Dave Matthews. It's a very quiet band.
Her seats are usually far in the back, so it

(02:42):
was no harm. I mean he has headphones, but still
but for a rock show. And I remember asking some
of you on social media, and he thought it was
perhaps too young, and I'm like, you know what, I
have plenty of time to take him to shows. Slash
is going to tour, whether it be with guns or
roses or whatever he does. He's gonna tour until he dies.
You know that for a fact. So I'm gonna have time.

(03:05):
And it was the right decision. We were really up close.
I park well, I park both with my car and
my keyster in the handicap spots. Now, you know, in
the early days with my neurological disability, always a challenge
to get to shows.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
You know, I've been wearing leg braces since I was ten.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
The cane probably started, I don't know, twenty years ago, fifteen,
twenty years ago. But now I use a wheelchair because
it's just too difficult, especially with the.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Sun, you know, And.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
There are shows that happened like what happened was Slash.
It was raining for parts of the day, so I'm
just not good at implement weather. So it was unique
to have to sit there in a wheelchair to watch
the show, which was a great time. Finally got to
see Teddy Zigzag live and in person, and I hope
he does it again, Slash. I hope he does another

(04:03):
blues album, whether it be covers or originals. It's pretty
cool if you go back and you look at Slash's
Blues Ball, which is what the name of the band
is again and they've played like back in the nineties.
The songs that they recorded are some of those songs.
So it's almost a very full circle moment for Slash

(04:25):
is that you know, they kind of bring back Slash
Slashes blues Ball or Slashes Blue Balls. Some people love
to the joke about it, but it's very cool to
see Teddy doing it and Johnny g up there doing it.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
So I hope Slash continues to be busy.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
He's always showing up at different award shows, showing up.
He was recently at the Almond Betts Family Revival in Nashville, Tennessee,
so he showed up there, And I mean, he's always
just popping up.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
So it's it's cool to see.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
It's gonna be awesome to see Slash pop up with
Guns of Roses next year. And all year he had
been saying twenty twenty five is the Year of Guns
and Roses, that they were taking a year off. He wasn't,
so we knew to really expect nothing from Guns and
Roses this year.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
We knew that going in.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
And very little bred Cromse He's given As far as
new music, you know, we have ideas or the kind
of It's interesting when Hey and Duff talk about they
don't know how to put it out yet, and that's
a common question. Now, how do you put out music today?
Do you put it out physical, digital? Do you put

(05:43):
it in EP singles?

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Albums?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yet some of the criticism goes to, well, Slash, do
you know how to put out your own album? Duff,
you know how to put out your own album. But
Guns and Roses is totally different monstrosity. So I yes,
they don't know or at least at the time of
those interviews, or are having discussed or able to share

(06:06):
what they're gonna do, which is going to keep us
guessing for twenty twenty five whether they're going to be
some singles, an EP.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
An album, Dare We Dream? Dare We Dream?

Speaker 2 (06:17):
So cool stuff from Slashing in twenty twenty four, and
the same thing goes for for Duff. G and R
took the year off, but their members did not, So Duff,
you don't hear me talk about Duff's solo music too
much on this podcast, And I begrudgingly say it's because
I'm just not the largest fan of his soft voice.

(06:40):
I like Duff when he's punk, attitude.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Loaded.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
It works sometimes, you know, like I'm so fine even
when I was younger, though I didn't really It took
me a bit to warm up to that song, but
I liked the Neurotic Outsiders. It's just something about the
singing style of these last two records. It's just not
for me. And these last two records of Duff have
been critically acclaimed, so what do I know. It's all subjective.

(07:14):
It's just not for me. So what am I gonna
do give a review of an album I'm just not
a huge fan of.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
For what purpose?

Speaker 2 (07:20):
It's I'm here to make things look good, and I
just know if i'm I have nothing really to add
to it positive other than I hope you like it,
and maybe I need to spend more time with it.
Because Chinese Democracy, which I praised, it took me three
times to get through it and to really process and
to enjoy it. So maybe it'll take like that with Duff,

(07:42):
or if I could see him live, which he did
come to the area. Played pussin Rouge in the city
a few years ago. I saw Blind Melon there, of course,
with Travis Warren as the lead singer, and it was
a nice little place.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
In New York.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I'm not the most handicapped friendly. You know, there's an
elevator there. I have to keep that into I got
to keep that in mind wherever I go, especially with concerts.
So it just with Baby Brownstone aka Harrison Rex. By
the way, people need to be reminded constantly that his
name is not Brownstone, right, It's just a cute little

(08:21):
radio name. Like my name is Brandon Brando. It's just
a radio identity radio alias. So his his Baby Brownstone.
Maybe there was a toddler at some point, we'll see.
So I didn't go to that, and I was actually
invited to that by a radio friend of mine, so

(08:43):
I could have gone for free. But it's just didn't
work out for it, and it wasn't motivated like Slash
when he went on tour, I'm like, I want to
see this. I want to see this blues ball a lot,
So that goes in hand in hand. If I was
a bigger fan of solo solo stuff. Then perhaps I
would have found the babysitter or a reason to go,

(09:08):
but I didn't. You're another member of the classic lineup
of Guns and Roses, who unfortunately is not in the
band right now, is Steven Adler, and he was busy
this year with his band touring, getting good reviews from
fans and critics alike. And this is pretty cool, man.
I mean for Stephen to get an award. So this

(09:30):
is from councilwoman Tracy Park. This happened maybe a couple
of weeks ago in Venice. She presented him with an award.
And just for everything that Steven's been through, I think
this is a pretty special moment.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
My incredible honor to get introduced to you is Stephen Alva.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Oh god, David, come on.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
This man has been making you think rock and roll
and legends. Yes, stavins On behalf of the entire city
of Los Angeles and Council District eleven. It is my
privilege to recognize and congratulate you for being the OG

(10:26):
bad ass.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yes, damn you. Thank you guys. This is amazing. Whoo oh,
thank you guys so much. It's so great being here.
Thank you for letting me share your EVIW with you.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
So very cool for for Steven to being honored for
being a badass. You could be honored for anything in
these days, but he is. He has survived a lot. Man,
some things that I've been told that he just went
through that I can't share. It's just this guy is
lucky to be alive, things that were not even included

(11:10):
in his book. So I'm just happy for Steven, proud
of Steven, and you just hope that there is a
window in twenty twenty five for him to be a part.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Of this band again somehow.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
And Matt Storm recently came out that he was offered
the same thing as Adler, you know, play a song,
a couple of songs and that's it. And allegedly Matt
Sorm turned that down, And you know what, it's kind
of I just don't know whose choice this is. Is
this axle dictating? Is this the management? You know? Is

(11:46):
this the people with whose hands are on the money
because they don't want to spend too much money on
Steven and and Matt and even is he that they
don't want to pay them because they're they're checks will
be like us.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I don't know. If you read.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
The first draft of Matt Sorum's book that went out
before he was published, I mean he's pretty rough in there,
so I towards like slash and towards some people. So
I can understand that being a reason now why maybe
that's the offer. But what's the issue with Steven necessarily

(12:25):
is because things that he said in the past being upset.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
But he had his moments with Axel on stage, and
you know, not exactly brotherhood and and you don't see
them in and out Burger hanging out like Axel likes
the frequent, but they had that moment and we were
close with Izzy, we were close, as Alan Niven told
us on this very show, that is, he showed up
at a soundcheck. Something bothered him and he left. We

(12:53):
don't know what it was, whether it was money, whether
it's personnel thing, whether it's issues that came up that
were from the past.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
No idea, no idea. Maybe if we.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Get Allen on again, I can ask him. We'll see,
we'll cross that bridge up. It happens when it happens,
So it's it's it's just sad. You hope that but
I want to see Steven's bands. I hope they come
to New York. I keep trying to get interviews with him.
It's just which is first, primarily which you get. Stephen

(13:25):
also has, just like everybody else, has to be careful
with what he says, what he doesn't say, so he
wants to focus least. I've been told by his manager,
you know, radio stations on where they're selling tickets to shows,
So I get that. I don't know if I'm really
going to help Stephen Adler sell any tickets. I can
give the interview exposure, but am I really going to

(13:46):
help him sell tickets?

Speaker 1 (13:48):
I don't. I don't know. Maybe if he comes out
with an album, No, I guess don't know.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
We'll see. And as far as is he is, he
did make an appearance this year. We saw him with
Bernard Fowler of the Rolling Stones. They took a picture
before one of their shows. So is he went to
go see the Stones this year? And I got to
interview the legendary and Bernard Fowler about it and talk
about Izzy and Izzy was they were talking about music?

(14:16):
Is he's always writing and making music? So are we
ever going.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
To see that?

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Either? Or was he just writing to write and keep himself,
you know, creatively, his creative juice is flowing.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
We'll see, so will we see where's is he in
twenty twenty five?

Speaker 2 (14:33):
But we know he's alive and well so with the
classic five here for a little review. Slash new album tour,
Duff new album tour, h Stephen Touring Honored. Is he
is alive? Which is great. Axel also alive, which I

(14:56):
don't know if that's breaking news or not. So Axel
appearances with Billy Joel again.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
This year.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
You've seen him with fans. I did an interview with
the band. A couple young kids in the band stand
By that met Axel an in and out Burger, and
Axel gave him some career advice, you know, welcome advice.
So if you want to go back and listen to
that interview. But also Axel released music this year. Well

(15:25):
it was released by Michael Shanker if you wanted to
be technical about it, and I actually did speak to
Michael about it, so you can hear our interview. And
it was in my interview with him that it was
revealed that Axel did three songs for Michael for his
UFO covers album. I don't know if you can cover
yourself or ufl reinterpretation album, whatever it is. So Axel

(15:47):
sang I Love to Love, but allegedly or did recorded
two other songs, but wasn't couldn't focus on that those
other two enough because they were on tour at the time.
Stayed on one and said maybe that he wants to
tour with it and do some vocals with Michael Shanker
when they tour Japan. So is that gonna happen in

(16:08):
twenty twenty five when they're touring, when Guns and Roses
are touring. So Axel he's been out. We heard his voice.
He has a website too, which is funny. That was
such a big deal at the time. Oh my god,
Axel Rose is a website. What is he going to
do with it?

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Nothing?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Nothing's been going on Axel Rose dot com. I'm gonna
go on to it right now. And as goes w
Axel Rose, they signature and the news section is just, oh,
you know what they have this. This is a new
news thing. So it is being an updated which I
think is really cool.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
I shared this.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
This was a Forbes article that their biggest hits.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Are like.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Are getting like hitting the charts again, Welcome to the
Jungle and swedshot of the mind, Like how cool is
that that their songs are? I mean I joked about
it online. Why release new music if your old stuff
is still dominating the charts, you know, forty years later.
It's insane. But yeah, not much going on. Why did

(17:20):
he make that though Axelrose dot com we speculated at
the beginning with the lawsuits that lawsuit, which by the way,
is settled, has been settled recently. Actual those sexual harassment lawsuit,
which does not mean he's guilty it just because he
still maintains his innocence. Doesn't know what this woman is
talking about. I did a whole episode on that with

(17:42):
a lawyer to go into a deep dive about it.
If you want to go back and watch it, because
you know, we're real on this show. This is something
that happened, and let's talk about it, let's handle it
in an intelligent way.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
And I think that we did so.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
I just think that Axel, It's just like, it's enough,
this woman hasn't stopped. Let's just move on. We have
to move on and unfortunately have to pay her. So
he's no Diddy, He's no jay Z.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
You know. There. It's sad. There are actual people who really.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Commit these crimes, and there are those who try to
take advantage of that situation, being like hey, I can
get it.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
So I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I mean, I wasn't there, but I still maintained belief
in Axel the entire time. Whether that's biased or not,
I don't know. But an Axel I trust and it's
nice to I'm sure he's relieved for it to just
move on and be done with it. But there was
rumors that the actual the website was just to kind
of change the search history for Axel, like when people

(18:46):
google him, it wouldn't be all these allegations. It would
just be the news on the website. But that was
just a theory. So I don't know if that's real
or not, or is he going to release solo stuff
or a book. The book was a rumor. So axilroos
dot com is just there to be there right now.

(19:06):
Will it be updated in twenty twenty five? I have
no idea, but we do know again, Guns of Roses
in twenty twenty four recently just announced a twenty twenty
five tour. Right now dates in Europe, dates in the
Middle East. My wife and I are thinking about going
somewhere in Europe. We were thinking about maybe Austria or

(19:29):
even Bulgaria because those were lining up with my wife's
work dates and when she would be available.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
But we're going to.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Take time, wait until the new year, see where we're
both at schedule wise, money wise, and maybe we'll go
to She's like, I would love to go to Finland
or Norway or Sweden, so we'll see. So hopefully in
twenty twenty five, I will be abroad seeing Guns and Roses,

(19:55):
and don't forget when I do these. When Guns and
Roses are on tour, I'm inviting you to come on
the show. So if a lot of you have already
bought tickets, so if you want to, if you're excited
to be on the show, on the go to the show,
and you want to come on this show to talk
about it, let me know. So Fan Reviews will be
back in twenty twenty five, so a lot to look

(20:18):
forward to next year with Guns of Roses. We know
they're back. We have a lot of speculation with new
music what we're gonna get, But I'm just glad that
they're they're back in business. I'm excited that whenever I
see them next, I'm taking my son and I'm passing,
you know, the legacy of Guns of Roses on to
another generation. So this is most likely the last episode

(20:40):
of twenty twenty four, unless, for whatever reason, GNR announces
new music. Yeah, I know that sounds crazy, right, mister
baby Brownstone over there, But I always say the conversation
continues in between the broadcasts on social media Facebook, Instagram, Twitter,
tiktokafdpod dot com. So I'm going to be active every

(21:02):
day regardless of whether the podcast is happening or not.
But next year, and you know what, I'll give you this.
I already booked my first guest for next year, Oni Logan.
He is the original vocalist for Lynch Mob. So Ony
Logan the original vocals for Lynch Mob. And what's really

(21:25):
cool is he was a candidate for the original Slash's Snakepit.
We're going to get that story next year, so stay
tuned for that. When will the next episode come In
the words of Axel Rose concerning Chinese democracy, I don't
know as soon as the word, but you'll see it.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Thanks to the lame ass security.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
I'm going home.
