Don't forget that today's show is broughtto you by Let's see if I can

this is our first shirt ever forAround the ATL. Very happy about
it. But Price Design Club actuallyoriginally created the first logo for Around the
ATL and the current one as wellas other projects. So if you ever
(03:34):
need to like prove professionally present yourbusiness to somebody and make sure you hit
him up. Jamal Price is agreat person. I've known him for many
years now. I wouldn't send anybodyto anybody else but him, So make
sure you let them know I sentyou in. Around the ATL is the
one who sent you that. Beingsaid, let's go ahead and get started.
So oh, actually, well he'snot here yet just yet, so
(03:58):
I can't introduce him just yet.So let's go ahead and introduce our guests
for today. So, as Imentioned earlier, we have two special guests
today, now our first one.It was my very very honor and privilege
to have him on the show forthe very first time a couple of years
ago because I really looked up tohim in the broadcast industry. He is
(04:18):
a veteran broadcaster. He's most notedfor the thirty eight years of being the
voice of the Atlanta Hawks. Hispassion capturing the action on the floor is
unmatched, and you'll never ever everbe able to say he's not a fan
of the team. Let's go aheadand bringing our guests for it today.
This is Steve Honing Prince. Greatto see you, Thank you, Thank
(04:43):
you man. I just saw aco hosts come in, so I'm gonna
introduce him in the second. Sohow's your day going now? I know
we got a brief time today, but I do want to kind of mention
the people that are in Florida rightnow. I've seen some crazy videos down
there. I don't know if youknow anybody in artist Steve Oh, we
were just there though we're in Miamithe other day. They all it did
(05:04):
was rain for two days, soI can see they're having all those problems
down there. Yeah, it's it'sit's a mess down there. I hit
up a couple of people I'm inperson. We just make sure that they're
okay. Let's be we can goahead and bring in mister Jordan Jackson,
co host for the day, andokay, not there and all right,
(05:29):
so he's having a little technical difficultythere. Slow. Yeah, well he'll
come in in a second. Solet's get starting. There are there's a
couple of questions that we were goingto ask today, so I'll ask my
out a little bit out of order, but that's fun. So he asked
me how it was what I wasdoing today mostly, And there there's my
scorecard for oh boy, oh wow. Right now again there is what I've
(05:53):
used for all thirty eight years.Oh wow, man. Well and again
you know, old school always works, Steve. There's no there's no substitute
for the game winning sport card.Wow. That is awesome. That's that's
that looks Steve. That's on bin museum one of these days, I
swear, um and actually that that'sactually a good segue because I did want
(06:16):
to go ahead and talk about theMiami game. So you know, Jimmy
Butler actually guarantee you to win, right and um? And then the hawkspital
seat that has seven you know, players in double figures. But you know,
I actually predicted the Hawks who actuallywin. I said they would win
by ten points. Analysts. Wasn'tthat something? This is I've already said
(06:40):
I don't watch ESPN anymore, Butthat was kind of just startling right there.
But the reason I predicted the Hawkswould win by ten was the following
reasons. One, we were healthy. Weren't healthy last year at all um.
Two our bench is much better thanlast year um. And then three
I felt with Snyder being here, you know, with the rains at the
helm, I felt that just onthe adjustment side of what the other team
(07:02):
would do and read and react wouldbe better overall. And they kind of
play it out as so us becauseevery time Miami did try to come back,
or at least will Carl Lowry tryto come back, the Hawks had
an answer. So, first ofall, the Hawks won, they beat
Miami. Where are you surprised?Of course, I know you were excited,
But where are you surprised at all? And what stood out to you
(07:23):
regards to the win and who stoodout to you in particular in regards to
the win? Well, number one, I wouldn't say I was surprised by
the win. I was surprised byhow they won, you know, opening
up that big League? Was ittwenty four points at one time? Miami
did come back, as you wouldalways expect a NBA game, everybody makes
runs. They got it down tofive and six, and I thought the
(07:46):
most impressive thing was that every timeMiami made a run, you know,
the Hawks gate right back and didsomething good again and built it back up
to fourteen or fifteen. Yeah,And I think maybe in a previous time
here that you know, when itgot down to six, the Hawks might
have hold it and that might havebeen the end of it, but they
didn't. And you mentioned Quinn Snyder. I think he's really instilled a lot
(08:07):
of extra defense into this team.I think that the offense is certainly up
three or four points since he gothere at twenty games ago. And you
mentioned, you know, the improvedbench. I think Jayalen Johnson since Quinn
got here, is a totally differentguy. Right now, he's a totally
different kid. He's carrying himself withso much confidence. Now Quinn has put
(08:28):
the ball in his hand. Somehe brings the ball up. Sometimes he
plays defense. He's long, he'ssix eight. I mean, you could
see some of the things he didthe other night, and a couple of
offensive rebounds and he jammed home.It was it was really great to see.
And of course Clint Capella with allof those rebounds that he had,
putting eight offensive rebounds at John Collins, who had kind of a quiet night
(08:52):
up until the end. You know, Johnny came up with three really big
offensive rebounds down the stretch in thatgame. And the Hawks, uh,
I kind of it was surprising tome was the way they out physical Miami
that they're not we're not really knownfor that, right, but they were
more a lot more physical in thatgame. So that's why I'm looking forward
(09:13):
to the series with the Celtics, because I don't think anybody knows the changes
that have been made here over thelast twenty games, and and the guys
that are playing well like a kuhe has really benefited too since Quinn came
in. Uh you know, he'saveraging ten points almost by eight rebounds,
and you put him with Clint, but there's twelve and eleven. It's pretty
good. The center duo and anduh double. Oh you know he could
(09:35):
even shoot the three now he's beenworking on that. He's made four of
them now, so you know he'sa threat there too. Yeah. When
when it comes to just those things, the physicality, I mean, Trey
of course mentioned that in the inin his press are on the interview side
of things, um, and andyou can see brains being taken off for
a little bit, especially with JJyou know. Um you can see it,
(09:58):
you know. And that's where thatvocal being vocal in regards to certain
things instructing I think comes into play, because when the player is basically told,
Okay, look, I'm going torely on you. Whatever little mistakes
you might fake here and there,I know what you can do over a
period of time, you know,So that comes into play, I think.
(10:18):
And definitely with oh oh, he'salways been able to do that,
but now I think he's really comeinto his own for sure. His confidence
is sky high. We know hecould play the defense, and now we
know he could hit threes now, right, But the block shots, yeah,
he off the bench. He's likeone of the league leaders in block
shots. Like that's not typical, right, So no, I mean he's
(10:39):
and he's his defense. If youremember earlier in the year, he would
get in file trouble all the time. Seemed like he has always had like
three or four files had to comeout of the game. And a couple
of little adjustments that Quinn has madewith him has changed all that he doesn't
get into fall troubles and the wayhe did. Yeah, and they set
up some defenses against Miami the othernight. Uh, that's kind of I
(11:03):
think the way Clint explained at theshooter around was, you know, a
transition of defense instead of trying tochase everybody around, they kind of built
what he called a wall and thenonce they get stopped at the wall of
other words, you know, thenyou could go play your man. Yeah.
So it's it makes it make perfectsense to me because an X and
(11:24):
O guy, but it made perfectsense to be it apparently. And on
the X and O side is oneof those basic basketball teams in regards to
being able to adjust with what oneof our weaknesses is, and one of
those is rotations, staying with yourman off of the switch, you know,
and and overhelping that that game inMiami, we did not overhelp nowhere
(11:46):
near what we have been doing. And that right there, all you gotta
do is look at the point, and the paint was low, the second
chance point with almost non existent, and we didn't give up a lot of
fast break points. And that rightthere gave that cushion to where even if
the Hawks had a little bit ofa law, the heat could not really
come all the way back because wewere holding them back from all those other
(12:07):
things that usually heard us. Itwas a genius move. Jordan actually had
mentioned in regards to John Collins playingJimmy Butler, like he was having a
bigger guy on Jimmy limited what Jimmyusually would be doing against us. And
it was for me, even thoughJohn didn't have the biggest offensive game of
all time. That and again Quinnrolling with what was happening in the game,
(12:28):
not just changing you know, playersout just because and just going with
the flow a little bit more reallyalso put the Hawks up on the heat
pretty big too. Well. Ithought one of the things too that you
know, if you remember back inthat third quarter, when Miami started to
make their run, they just keptgoing to They kept going to the Hero
every time, you know, attrade pretty much. And you know he
(12:52):
called a quick time out, Quinndid, and that he switched off and
put the jatte on him, andthat pretty much stopped all that for Miami
because the first i think three orfour baskets of the third quarter, we're
Tyler Hero going right right at tray. Yeah, so that that he made
that adjustment called the time out.I think Siliver ten minutes to go at
the third quarter. He saw whatwas happening there and it called that time
(13:15):
out. So Timehouse was perfect.Yeah, the timeouse. We're big too,
so I'm it really kind of justshow, you know, even though
he's trying to work out, youknow, bringing in his own and doing
what he needs to do in basicallytwenty games, that was going to be
hard no matter what. I feltthat it mattered. And because of that,
(13:35):
we're going into this actual playoff serieswith the Boston Celtics now because we
are out of the play in UMand gives us an opportunity to maybe do
something. I know a lot ofpeople have discounted the hawstall all together again,
but yeah, there there's we're inso you know, there's there's always
a chance. And again, younever can tell. I was watching one
(13:56):
of those Boston talk shows the time. You know it's on the direct TV,
I can watch it, So Iwas watching that yesterday, and I
mean, we might as well bethe Washington generals as far as they're concerned.
I mean, they just give usno no respect at all, and
in fact, they went as faras to say if the series goes six
(14:16):
games, it's a failure for theself. I heard that. I was
like, I heard that. Iheard that team. I was like,
okay, all right, here wego. I think this is great for
the Boks. I think it's agreat position to be in because you can
go in there and surprise and shockthe world. I mean, and the
Celtic's probably better than anybody know thatover the last you know, the Tazas
(14:39):
series against Garnett was at two thousandand eight and then the last time the
two teams had a series went sevengames too, So you know, I
think the Hawks are in a positionwhere they can do something. And we
all know the Tray is a bigtime player. He likes it when the
big lights go on, like hedid in New York a couple of years
ago. And I still I swearif he didn't step on that referees foot
(15:01):
you all know, box fight andgot to the final, we were two
games away and we had all themomentum. I think all of us pretty
hurt. Janie was hurt. Uhand and Tray steps on that you know,
Sean Wright's foot, and that thatmessed up. Everything exactly looks like
we have Jordan, but we havehim on the radio. Jordan, can't
you hear sir? Yes, sir, I am able to hear you.
(15:22):
Um, there's a storm going onwhere I'm in a lotta right now.
And so for anybody who knows thelott of traffic, you know, rain
on the ground equals terrible traffic. And also for some reason, I'm having
a hard time joining you guys onvideo. So hopefully y'all able to hear
me on phone. Just time.No worries, No worries. Go ahead
and say ahead and Steve, Steve, how's it going to good? Jordan?
(15:46):
Good? Be careful of the traffic. Yes, well, I'm Jordan.
I actually I know you have aquestion that you wanted to ask Steve
directly. Go ahead. Um,yes, well, I'll be honest with
you. Like I said, I'mjotting into where y'all were coming. I
heard y'all were speaking over some ofthe things that happened with the coaching adjustments
(16:11):
as well as the mind the heatgame that just took place. I guess
the next thing I wanted to goto Steve is what do you see upcoming?
Is going to be the keys tothe Hawks having a chance to win
this Boston series. I know thatyou know that we've been up and down
a little bit this season, butas you've mentioned, we know Tray love
(16:33):
when the lights come on. Andthe one thing about it the Hawks team
to actually rise to the task andplay their best basketball against some of the
best teams. So what do youthink to be the key to take in
at least one of these first twogames in Boston. Well, I think,
Jordan, one of the things thatI have been really you know,
looking at, especially with the merchantsof Jail and Johnson, is the size
(16:57):
differential of the Hawks will have. You know, the Celtics like to play
Tatum and Brown together in the portand the front part, and you know
with John Collins and then you bringin Jalen Uh. You know, I
think the height advantage is going tobe big. And Clint I, you
know, can I think he canmuscle al Uh, you know, all
likes to stand in the corner andshoots those threes. He's very good at
(17:19):
it. But as far as themuscle thing, which surprised everybody, I
think against Miami that the Hawks wereas physical as they were, But I
think Jalon's going to be a realtea. That's only six foot eight.
We get a size advantage against thosetwo guys. And you know, if
we can get anything out of DeAndreuh, you know, he had a
he had a rough game against Miamithe other night. So if we can
(17:41):
get what we usually get out ofDeAndre Hunter to go along with John and
then Jalen coming off the bench,I think they've got a big advantage up
front. And the way and Yetis playing too right now that you know
that give the Hawks of advantage there. And then you've got to force the
Jatta playing the defense. He playsa trade stepping up on the offensive side.
(18:03):
And then Bogie is healthy, youknow, he wasn't healthy all last
playoffs series last year. Healthy cancome in and knocked down those three pointers.
And that's one of the things Quinndoes too. I mean, he's
he's he's an analytics guy, butnot one of the you know, not
like a nerd analytics guy. Youknow, he goes by the simple math
of the three pointer is more thana two pointer. So if you have
(18:26):
a good chance to shoot a three, shoot it, because if you get
three three points and the other teamteams getting two, you're going to eventually
win the game by math, youknow. So I really like the way
he looks at that too. Andthe other thing I think about Game one,
the Celtics haven't really played it overa week. You know, the
game that we played against them onSunday, the final regular season game.
(18:48):
They didn't play anybody. We didn'tplay anybody. I mean we left you
know, five guys at at homeeven make the trip muston. So they're
they're starting you that has not reallyplayed and we have the advantage of playing
it was essentially a playoff game theother night against Miami, So I think
we have a little edge there. And if there's a game to be stolen
in Boston, it might be Gameone on Saturday afternoon. They won Game
(19:15):
one in that series in the EasternHills, went off from forty something,
and I think that's a good chanceto catch a team is in that first
game. Game one puts all themomentum on the opposing team on the road,
especially, and it puts all thepressure on the Celtics because just like
you said, there's gonna be somematchups and I think, Jordan, you
(19:36):
said something about Brown having an injuryof some sort too, right, Yeah,
And I was just gonna ask Pepabout that. Um. I don't
know if you're hearing anything about JaylenBrown, Steve and where he's at.
I know, about a week orso ago, he apparently cut his hand
water on his flowers. I'm notquite sure if I bothered that. I
don't know about you guys. Ifyou believe that I've got some land I
(19:57):
can sell you there in the swapland near Miami. Uh stand, but
I guess we'd go with the wateringthe plant thing. That he broke the
vase. I guess that's what happened. But I mean the last I saw,
and it was they were saying theywere hopeful that he would be able
to play in the first round ofthe playoffs. So mean a sure thing.
(20:21):
They They've got enlisted on their notesas the starter. Uh. They
also have all listed as the startertoo. Um, So you know,
I don't know. I don't knowwhat the Rob Williams thing is, either
if he's a totally healthy or they'replaying on starting al But of course they
everything they put out on their uhgoats and every they could be, you
(20:41):
know, totalized too. You knowhow they you know how they operate up
there. Yeah, well, onething about Boston I was gonna stay real
quick as well, is that,Um, the reason that the Boston Selty
do have the record that they dohave is because of that bench. That
bench wasn't just a bunch of justrandom people. Are anything those guys can
play is just their minutes are justreduced because they do have that starting lineup.
(21:04):
So if our bench can match theirbench per intensity and everything else that
we already know they can do,I think we can even the mount in
certain cases. So then it comesdown to Tatum, of course, and
who's gonna lock them up. Isit gonna be Hunter or are you gonna
put Murray on him a little bit? And then you know, can the
Hawks do what they did in Miamifor you know, for a whole game
(21:26):
forty eight minutes because at that point, yeah, we have as easy a
chance because they need to get agame one rather than trying to win game
two after losing a game one.You never want to be in that situation
and going back home. So yeah, and well, one of the rebounding
is going to be so big andone of the real emphasis points for twinn
Snyder has been offensive rebombing. Hewants guys to hang in there or an
(21:48):
offensive rebound and get those second chancepoints and you'll keep the ball alive.
And we certainly saw that against Miamithe other night. Time and time again.
They kept getting these big offensive andyou know, if you get enough
chances at it, you're eventually goingto score. You get you were free
cracks at it on one possession, you know you're the ball's gonna start to
fall for you. And they didn'tshoot three very well the other night either,
(22:10):
So if they starting forty one andthree the I think they shot twenties
six percent something like that, SoI mean that wasn't very good, but
they were able to get them, and that's a lot more than they normally
shoot the game, and I thinkthat was that was part of the game
plan. Let's go out there andyou know, T and I and let
it fly, as they say,and you know, if you've got the
shot, shoot it. Because it'sa it's a league. They always say,
it's a it's a disc or makeleague. And if you shoot forty
(22:33):
one three and you start making abunch of them, all of a sudden,
you're gonna have a nice big leadin the game. Yeah, And
you can tell that it was atheme in regards to like you said,
the offensive rebounds as a result ofthey were going to be shooting a lot,
so they had to do that.So you can tell that that was
it. That was part of thegame plan as well that they look,
guys, we have to hunker down. You gotta stay with our man.
(22:55):
I can say there was not alot of people not on their man after
switch. They were talking switches. It was amazing, like everything is coming
together, all of the us inone game. Can't we translate that into
a sperience because if we can't,Again, storing has never been the problem
for the Hawks, have it right. The thing too, is that,
uh, you can really see thatthe guys are excited right now. I
(23:18):
mean, they feel good, theyfeel confident. If you remember, um
I had on disjat day after thegame on the post game show the other
night, and uh, like hesaid, everything is behind us down,
Everything that happened all year, it'sgone. This is a brand new thing,
which is where we win the gameagainst Miami and here we go.
You know, maybe maybe this willbe where the deep comes together and uh,
(23:42):
you know, PlayN has got themplaying so well, and I think
the bench, you know, it'sonly going to be an eight or nine
man rotation for the you know, the playoffs, as it usually is with
post teams. So I think theyfeels themselves. I think they feel confident
going into this and uh and weknow that they don't. We don't pray
especially not going to be afraid ofanything. I mean, it's not shy
(24:03):
about coming down the floor and shootingit from that uh, just over the
LEPRECD there and uh, I thinkit's gonna be a fun speries. And
I think the Hawks, you know, no, they're not getting any credit
at all nationally, as is theusual case you have you looking last night
(24:26):
in the bo Uh. But Imean in general though, the national media
is is you know, they're they'rethey're kind of poo pooling us against the
Celtics here. And the thing aboutit is, I mean, thank goodness,
you know, we're gonna have thelocal radio broadcast and for this first
round series, we're gonna get Boband d you know on TV. The
(24:48):
press release. Yeah, they don'thave to depend on uh, you know
broadcasters because you know, as goodas they are on T N T and
ESPN, you know White honestly,I mean some of those guys could ride
up on the elevator with Jayla Johnsonand not know who we want. And
so I think that's the advantage you'rehaving the local guys on hand, you
(25:11):
know, for the TV, inthe in the radio. Exactly. Yes,
just a quick comment though, Itold him to grief Steve. And
as you pointed out on the broadcastlast night, seventeen of seventeen ESTN quote
experts unquote uh experts uh took themind the heat to win that game last
night. Um. Also thank youfor the point. You know that's because
(25:36):
none of the out of the seventeenprobably fifteen had seen the Hawks play once
all year. Absolutely, absolutely right. And I thought you point talking about
the off they were changing channels toget to the Laker game. Absolutely,
but also thought you better investing pointtalking about the office of lead by the
(25:59):
last night time at the time.At the time, those guys got big
officers and rebounds, had big baskets. I mean all of the big John
Collins had a huge than the fourthquarter had had a huge one. UM
a lot of all huge offers ofrebounds and most of the time he passed
it back out and they end upleading some baskets. Jalen Johnson had big
office rebounds, a call who hadbig office rebounds, and even said Bay
(26:22):
had a couple of great officers reboundsand a couple of difficult mats afterwards.
So I thought you were right alsothere and also right, and also I
thought you was right on the pointtalking about as well. He scored four
points, I mean, but hepulled out all of his rebounds, and
uh, that was terrific. Imean it was such and the game was
(26:47):
you know, Miami put it veryeasily, ended up winning that game at
the end when they got it downto five or six points. And like
I said earlier, ye coming backto Hawkstead, and I think that's one
of the big differences I've seen twoover the last you know, third of
the season, is that games.Remember during the year, they had a
lot of games they'd have a tenpoint lead or more and I point lead.
(27:07):
We lost three in a row likethat after that, well two in
a row after the Houston game thatwe lost fifteen points. An epidemic there.
So the whole leagues is important andyou know they were able to do
it and they haven't been able todo it, and and the other The
quick thing about Quinn being here forthe last twenty games is I think it's
been so important for him to actuallysee it up close and personal, uh,
(27:30):
and not have to you know, get here after the season and then
start to you know, acquaint himselfwith guys during the summer and summer league
and then the training camp. He'sbeen able to see it and have hands
on here for twenty games, bustout with these playoff games and the play
in game. So I think he'sgoing to have a good handle on uh,
you know, the personnel that he'sgot here and what he wants to
(27:52):
do with the personnel moving forward andwhuis sees in projecting in key positions on
the even I think it's been areal advantage that he's been here for as
long as he has done exactly absolutely, And that kind of leads into my
question, you always couldn't seem todo this, Steve. But we'll ask
some of the major coaching differences, and you've hit on some of them already
(28:17):
that you've seen with the change fromNate McMillan, Uh to quinsnidd and I
don't ask you to after this question, but I make a comment. I
tell you I'm not sure if weare able to weather that storm under the
previous coaching staff that we love itlast night, Well, I don't know.
I mean, it's it's a goodquestion, Jordan, but I will
say, I mean I love Dave. You know, Dave McMillan is an
(28:38):
NBA guy. I mean he is, he's old school, he's uh,
he knows what he's doing. Imean he knows he knows the game as
well as anybody out there right now. After being in it for fact bite
for a year I started doing theHawks broadcast eighty five. Eighty six was
his rookie year. So uh,you know, we can have the whole
thing together. And but don't countNate short. I just think it's been
(29:00):
a different voice here with Gwynn anda few little nuances that have changed.
I think quinn is is probably alittle more hands on. I think Nate,
uh, you know, would allowhis assistant coaches to do a little
bit more, but he likes tobe hands on. Quinn does, and
I think that's been one of thethings that's kind of gotten the guys.
(29:22):
I think they're kind of juiced upby it, you know, because the
old thing is if you hear onevoice long enough, you're not going to
be listening all the time. Buthere, you know, Quinn's here is
a new voice coming in. He'sgot a few new ideas. He's got
the guys laughing, joking, talkingduring practice and on defense, and I
think they really are enjoying playing basketballright now. Yes, sir, absolutely,
(29:48):
absolutely, saying from a skymatic standpoint, Well, we were just talking
about the defensive side, you know, on transition defense, Quinn has come
up with a few thing where,uh, instead of chasing guys around,
you build a wall and then stopstop the run a little bit, and
then once you get them slow down, you can go in and starting your
(30:10):
own. Man. I think that'sone of the big defensive things. I've
also on offense, seen you know, some some new wrinkles on things like
in bound plays and stuff like thatthat uh, you know, you don't
really see often in a game, but you're ready for something. So I
think that that's been you know, one of the smaller things that's happened that
has really helped one of the biggestthings I've noticed is just cutting the basket.
(30:33):
You know, Trey Young is thebest passer in the game. If
you I've always unstaying it. He'strying to get fifteen to sis to night.
So if you cut to the basket, you move without the ball,
he's gonna find you and ever tobelieve you, if you're always moving around,
it's twenty fourth seconds in the stock. I think some of that is
also coming from our old buddy KyleGormer, who was very good at that,
you know, perfetsional motion for theopen shot. And I think you
(30:57):
know, he's helped out something practicethe two. Uh and and although I'll
say this that you know it wasover four the other night from the free
throw line, but I think Kylehas really had helped it with his free
throw shooting. You know, hewent from like fifty two or fifty three
percent most of the year. Uhhe's up to sixty right now. Uh.
(31:17):
So he ended that game, althoughhe did, you know, he
missed the four in Miami, butlook at Toronto in last night's game.
They they missed eighteen free throws andthe cost of the game the game was
I thought that game was over,Stephen, I flipped back and I was
like, they blew that lead houseand I love the free throw. Yeah,
they missed eighteen free throws, Imean. And the other on the
other hand is you know the Lakerswere able to survive there is because I
(31:40):
think the free throws are The fourthquarter from that game were seventeen three in
favor of the Lakers. Prize hasyou Has you mentioned the trace Steven on
the official foot earlier? I was, I was a little disappointed that you
call him by Sean right though, because on the radio broad podcast you see
him tend to use my morning whichyou saw him wrong. It's good it,
(32:07):
yes, But I wanted to addthat I've seen from a strategy standpoint
is I've seemed like more of dridablehandoffs and things of that nature and left
not in particularly. It seemed likewhen they were doubling the trade, he
was making the point to get tomake the pass and did to run to
a spot and they were getting himthe ball back on the move and that
was allowed him to attack and reallyget to a floater. So that was
(32:28):
just one other thing I saw schematicallythat I wanted to mention as well,
Chris, go ahead, Thirsty.Well, I mean it's always a good
thing when you can see the ballmove. I mean, that's you know,
that's a good thing. And oneof the things about that is,
you know, Quinch says, youknow, move the ball around, get
as many passes as you can toget a good shot. But if if
after one pass you think you havea good shot taking that's one, don't
hesitate. He's don't you know hedoes all these guys don't hesitate. I
(32:52):
mean, we'd like to see threeor four passes in the last but if
we can't get that on a onepass, if you're open shooting. So
I think the guy Steel good abouthaving the green light on everything like that.
Yeah, exactly. As I gotanother question for you, and it's
kind of a big deal now youprobably know, and as all of us
and we saw that little article thatkind of came out right before our game
(33:16):
against the Heat, and basically synopsisof it is that, well, the
Hawks would be open to you know, trading everybody, including mister Trey Young,
right, and despite it being thebunked initially right off the bat from
the Hawks organization and then even onthe T ANDT broadcast, they said there's
no merit to it, things thatnature. He still had a lot of
people in Atlanta sports media continue tokind of push that article as if it
(33:40):
was a fat and even some doubledowns on it, despite watching the Hawks
beat Miami and they still kept onwith it. And you know, over
the last few years, I've noticed, you know, there are more and
more Atlanta sports talk you know peopleand journalists and community and things of that
nature, that they really never haveanything positive to say, even when things
(34:00):
are positive. So, Steve, why do you think there's so much at
least perceived animosity towards the Atlanta Hawksand unfortunately specifically Trey Young. Well,
I think, you know, there'sso much to do with that. That
article, it was in The Athleticearlier this year, came out and people
starting to buzz about that, andthere are so many media people now,
(34:21):
you know, around the country thatare all looking forward to, you know,
stories, and it's been trying tobreak stories. But I think they
come up with stuff and you know, the old saying you've thrown up against
the wall, something's gonna stick, you know, And I think that's part
of it. People sometimes get carriedaway when they read things like that on
Twitter and all of you know, these are all things that I mean are
(34:44):
still fairly do over the last tenyears or so. Before that, there
weren't these things. You know, you had your local newspaper, you had
maybe the USA Today or you knowmaybe what are two national shows. Now
you've got serious example, shows allday, and the NBA radio has shows
all day, at the app isrunning things all the time. ESPN has
got their own analysts, Kendrick Perkinscoming out saying he had the Celtics on
(35:07):
an upset alert because Miami could beatthem. Well, Miami sucker Hawks are
playing the Celtics. Yeah, sohe has to change his tood on that.
So that's to me, that's whythere's there's so much of that goes
on that you really can't take it, uh, you know. And then
the players, I think, ignoreit to they're pretty good about it.
They get out to do what they'resupposed to do, they play the game,
(35:29):
they let all that noise stuff happen. But I really do think that
a lot of it is just overblownand and and there's really only there's three
people that know what's going to behappening. And one is Tony Wrestler.
The other two are our Landry Fieldsand Kyle Cormer. And you know they're
not running to wloads or you knowshams or any of those guys, but
(35:51):
they tell them, well, Ithink you just mentioned one of them.
At a certain point, isn't there'ssome kind of journalistic responsibility and not just
say things for the stake of saying, you know, without some kind of
backup to say is this correct ornot? Because a lot of times,
unfortunately in the world that we livein now, you kind of alluded to
it, technology and everything to bethe light. People take stuff with the
(36:14):
brain of salt because they saw it, they speak it right right, And
so at a certain points, alot doesn't matter of after the fact that
you know it is not correct tonot actually go back to at least do
a retraction, at least put putyeah it is to me, there's there's
no no real credibility anymore in anyof that stuff. Uh. You know,
(36:35):
it's like if you go on andsay something and it's wrong, like
you say, nobody goes back andsays, oh, gee, I made
a mistake with that. They justgo on to the next thing. That's
wrong, yeah, and you know, and and and just act like it's
it's true, and and just youknow, they pull pull their way right
through it. So that's why Ithink fans have to be careful about what
they read and what they jump onand uh, you know, the twit
(37:00):
or followers start repeating things that someguys say that don't really know anything.
And that's why I just you know, you have to just let it all
shake out and let the people thatare running the basketball run the basketball.
And to be and I can includemyself as a fan, fans have to
be fans, you know, justlet it happen. Be happy with what's
(37:20):
happening on the floor. You know, like if you're winning the game and
you've got three minutes left in thegame, you know who a you're gonna
win, So start worrying about what'sgonna go wrong the next game until this
game's over, you know. Andit financial And that's why I mentioned it
because because that part of it,the human nature part, you know,
listen, piece, Michael Jackson,is that you you you unfortunately poison part
(37:42):
of the fan base that was alreadysome of them kind of teetering on the
edge of being you know, allthe way, or you know, whatever
it is. Maybe they don't goto a lot of games and they're just
about to start going, or theydon't watch any they haven't watch any game
since the sixty wins season for instance, or whatever. Right, right,
So I look at it just fromthat staff point to this. For who
have that kind of power to beat least cautious a little bit, you
(38:05):
know, because I said, Ipride myself on doing a lot of resource
before I put anything out there. You know, they're got asta fix it.
But they don't all do that, especially those national guys. I mean,
they are in such a battle witheach other to try to get things
out first. Uh like if ifyou if you follow those guys on Twitter
and and have alerts on your phone, they're almost simultaneous on every story.
(38:28):
Uh you know, one might beatthe other by ten seconds or the other
one might you know, but it'sthey're always right there. So um,
you know, it's a it's it'scompetition. And there's some big money for
those guys too, those national guysthat were making you know, I think
boach I read something that he's gota ten million dollar contract. You know,
that's a little bit different. IfI bet you know Jeffrey Didberg is
(38:50):
sitting up there somewhere watching it histypewriter. Now, you know, after
passing away twenty years things that youknow, but he should have been twenty
years later, you know, kindof money voting around Jordan. Go ahead,
yes, sir, absolutely, AndI guess the disappointing thing for me
about the whole article situation. Andthe article was written by a guy named
Kevin no clickbait, I think that'swhat his name is. And the thing
(39:15):
is he framed an article for marshto said like it was new news or
something, and then all the articlereally said, and as you missed this
team. The Tony Russeler was saying, look, I let my basketball people
handled that. And so they said, well, you're not saying for sure
that you won't trade trade trade trade. He says, Look what I'm telling
you is I won't be involved boldin it whatever my basketball people want to
(39:37):
do. But instead if it showsyou a lot of people, but I'm
just what they do is they justread headlines because like it's Chris said,
I did some writing for um fanside at atl allday dot com as well
as Bulldog Sports Illustrated and I alwaysnever put anything out there without researching.
But what happened was guy read thatheadline that was framed like new news.
(40:00):
And the most disappointed part for mewas Kendrick Perkins. As long as Kyle
Cools were on Twitter, both manystatements like why would the Hawks put something
out like this right before a playinggame? Well, the Hawks didn't put
anything out and all you had toreally do was to read the article and
click on the article, and thearticle told into the force with the March
third article, that was the most. I haven't seen him, but I
(40:24):
met Kendrick Perkins says, not mentionedonce that he picked Miami to upset the
something since that the Hawks game.I bet it's like that never happened,
you know. I agree, Iwould. I would take that same bit.
They pretended something didn't happen, youknow, and he will see you,
(40:45):
right, So, I don't know, I want at least bring it
up just because again, we're inthe playoffs officially now, guys, and
we should be hype about this. And here's the little dark cloud. It's
like, you know from the Peanutgame, you know, pig and you
know, just floating around, youknow, and it's like, can we
just want to kind of go intothis with hope of some sort and excitement
(41:09):
to say we have a chance again. You can't win an NBA championship without
being in the playoffs. The Hawkshave now been in the playoffs a few
years in the row again now, right, so we have a shot.
So like the Georgia Lottery, yougain't expect to win if you don't flay
tickets. Exactly. Absolutely, it'sno way. It's in poferable, right,
you don't just snap your fingers andyou win. So UM definitely appreciate
(41:31):
you answering that. Fore, George, you got anything less, sir?
You know, I just think Stevensas always answering everything beautifully. And I
agree. You know, these guysthey put stuff out and they and they
don't do, you know, anyretractions. But I'll just my final thing
about that, I'll just say isthat Ringer has seemed to me has had
(41:53):
it out for Trey Yon since beforehe came into the league. They named
him as the most likely guy,and history took the draft to be a
bust. And it seems to methat they're continuously trying to validate their bad
pre draft take rather than a missingthe wrong So you know, that's my
final comment about that particular situation fromthat draft. We see, you know,
(42:14):
who's in the playoffs this year andwho's not in the playoffs. Thank
you, Steve. I didn't wantto go there. I knew it.
I knew it. Appreciate that.Oh right, you know the other guy
can the other guy can enjoy watchingon TV and all night boy somewhere he's
(42:36):
watching. Oh man, Well,Steve, again, sir, we appreciate
you so much as taking time outof your business schedule. I know you're
gonna be getting prepared to go outto the other side of the world there
and again, um, this isthis is a period in time that we've
been waiting for to say, wereally do have an opportunity here, we
(42:58):
have a window. We haven't hadthat in a legit long time, and
so here we are now. Andthat's why I'm expired about it. And
I will just say violent, nomatter what happens in this series against the
Celtics, I mean, the futurelooks pretty bright right now. This is
just yeah, that Quinn Snyder's sun, you know, to a four or
five year contract. He knows whathe's doing. He's going to have a
(43:20):
say, I think in the personof l department, you know, with
Landry and Kyle and uh, heknows what he wants and he's a he's
a deep thinker, I mean, and he presents that to the players that
way. So, like I say, no, matter what happens in these
next four or five, six, seven games, you know, hopefully we'll
advance. If we don't go not, you know, don't start jumping out
(43:42):
of windows. It's not the endof the world because it's just that we're
just on the first step of thisbuilding thing right now. So I think
there's a lot of reason for optimismand and and be happy about what's coming
forward for this team in the future. Exactly. I'm excited. I'm gonna
try to get to a game nextweek. I don't know yet. I'm
trying. I'm gonna see what happens, but if anything out definitely here well
(44:02):
the nineteen nine for your podcast aswell as absolutely and before you go,
Steve, I just want to say, man, you know I've been regular
with you all year long. Man, I love about the Nick tooth Man,
but it's just something about your broadcastthat I'm just, you know,
forever captivated by I'm a I'll justevery game listener to you, and sometimes
(44:28):
I even you know, if I'meven at mat home, I'll have it
on the radio and be watching onTV. S y'all. Don't tell Bob
that, though. I just wantto say, man, you've been up
just a third enjoyment to listen to. You never know what I'm gonna say
next, So that's probably part ofit. Makes every time I keep my
(44:50):
county pull off the tongues or something, I know I've seen something you said
that's actually that's awesome. I'm sayingthe very beginning I forgot is that part
of the broadcast is part of beinga fan, you know. And when
we had Jerome Duranovich on last year, we talked about that, how he's
opening raised live and talks live. That's part of the environment. That's part
(45:14):
of the experience all the way through, is being able to either watch Bob
and Nique or to listen to youand content doing his thing. That's part
of it. And we've been we'vereally been privileged to have you with the
organization all this time. So Ijust wanted to say I appreciate it.
I hope to be there for along time to come. So another forty
years ago, Steve, let let'stray know that he can come on the
(45:37):
show anytime this this, give hima shout out of the company, tell
him I'll let him know. Allright, all right, people, go
back to your people. I appreciateit. Appreciate Thank you. Man to
Boston, all right, Thank you, y'all, Thank you soon. That
(45:59):
was the man, the myth, and the legend, thirty eight years broadcasting
Atlanta Hawks basketball. That was SteveHolman, real voice of the Hawk on
Twitter. Make sure you follow himthere. George in the business, shouted
the best of the business, shoutedthe right there, ladies and gentlemen.
I'm telling you, man, sowhat we're gonna do because I think I
(46:22):
scheduled this for an hour, evenjust in case we had some three times
so six four six six five twofour four seven nine. I don't think
the people at work are gonna mindme doing a little bit extra, because
yes, I am on the clock. People anyway. UM, we talked
about a couple of different things.Um uh, coaching, change, the
(46:43):
Miami Heat series, UM, animosityand get in regards to Atlanta sports,
especially the Hawks and things of thatnature. We had we had a real,
great, great discussion. But ifthere's anything that any of you fans
might want to call in and talkabout, of course the Celtics series.
Um call in real quick six poortssix six four two four Pourt seven nine
(47:04):
and I'll take a caller or twoif I can. We got about twelve
minutes now, Um, Jordan,go ahead, So if you have any
thoughts, well, sir, youknow my thoughts of Steve Halt is just
great as usual, man. Imean, he gives it to you like
it is straight nose chaser, isnot afraid to speak what's on his vine.
Now, I had und attended consequencesby bringing up that pre draft Ringer
article. Uh, and let toSteve, you know, keeping the riddlers
(47:30):
he always does. And let thethird of the certain gentlemen from that draft
was watching from the couch. Soyou know that was a matter the highlight
for me, sir, I wasone say, he beat me to it
this time. I'm just sad,you know, I was ready for it,
but he beat me to the thistime. Yeah, he tends to
do that, man. He alwaysseems to leave you right into the next
question you're asking bad. You know, it's like he's second is it for
(47:52):
you? You can tell he's maybedone this a time or two. I
don't know. I don't know forsure, but um, but yeah,
man, I always enjoyed the talkto the great Steve. I hope to
better catch the playoff game here umthis upcoming week and get a chance to
actually, you know, talk withSteve before the game as I did um
that last game we attended the Minnesotagame. I'm sure a lot of our
(48:13):
Twitter listeners out there saw me postthe picture of Steve, you know,
and the pictures on the new UHpromo, not the intro I did at
the last minute last night at fouro'clock in the morning, so I added
that on there. So you know, I try to do a couple of
(48:34):
other things, but eventually I justpassed out, so I couldn't do but
so much on the last minute thebasis, so everything worked out pretty good.
Um. The first Boston goes um, I think we have a chance.
I mean, it'd be stupid tosay we don't have a chance in
the world. Number one, wedo have trede On on our team,
and as I mentioned at the verybeginning of the show, we are healthy.
(48:55):
All the people who are injured lastyear are healthy now, right,
we have extra people that we didn'thave last year. We have Murray as
our shooting guard. You know,JJ is going to play right, so
you know, you have all theseaspects that were different from last year this
year and again at the end ofthe day, Quince Snyder has a history
(49:15):
of being able to make some choiceswithin the game within a quarter, within
a minute that can change things. And I think that's going to make a
huge difference. And right now,the guys are listening, they're paying attention.
You can see the implementation. Again, even when Steve mentioned about the
offensive rebounds and everything, you couldtell that that was being force fed all
(49:38):
throughout the game, whether it betime mounts, whether it behalf time.
You can see that it did notstop, and in the past it did
and that that makes a difference whenyou're trying to win a game. That
means everything that was one and doneright there right, Well technically not,
but you know what I mean.So I think we should be excited about
the possibility of what this series.Camera ring also the the what's the word
(50:05):
Jordan robbery part of it with theCeltics over the last few years. As
far as playoffs series, yeah,we didn't really play the Celtics as well
in the regular season this year, but that's over with now and the Celtics
are the defending Eastern Conference champions. They have all the pressure to get back
there again, you know what I'msaying. And if all of a sudden
they could run into the bus songcalled the Atlanta Hawks. Hey, he
(50:28):
doesn't never know. And again youwin game one, you definitely never know
at that point. All right, now, it's pouring down here, Jordan,
so hopefully electricity don't go out,but go ahead, sir, Yes,
sir, I do agree. TheHawks do have a shot here.
I think Jaylen Brown his health isgonna be a big key. If he's
not able to go at all,or if he's not able to make shots,
(50:50):
it's gonna be a lot harder forthe Hawks. For the Celtics to
score with the Halls, because weknow the Hawks to score the mall.
As Steve mentioned, I think thecenter matchup is going to be key,
um, you know, with witheither big the sitting there or there's Horford
or Robert Williams against Capella and aKongbu who dominates the boards is gonna be
key. Al Horford making outside shotsis gonna be key because I don't think
(51:12):
he's gonna be able to get domuch inside um against the hosts Biggs,
Um and so. Yeah, man, I think we are actually the healthier
of the two teams, um andso I certainly think we have a shot
um and the other key two keysthat I want to mention is one,
we need DeAndre Hunter to be athis best defensively. We need him to
(51:34):
slow Jason Tatum down. You know, you can't let him get the thirty
points on you know, eighteen shots. You gotta make him take thirty shots
to get thirty points. Um.That's gonna be a key, or the
other kid is gonna be setting atone of physicality early like they did against
Miami and letting Marcus Smartin know thatthey're not gonna put up with his mess
because you know he's gonna come out. He's gonna try to antagonize trade.
(51:57):
I don't know who, but somebodyneeds to do it right. I mean,
you know he's gonna come out andhe's gonna try to throw his martial
arts moves out there, and he'sgonna do his pro wrestling moves that he
does, you know what I mean. So it's gonna be imperative that the
Hawks show him early that that's notgonna be tolerated and that we're gonna be
just as physical as he wants tobe. So if they're able to do
(52:19):
those things, UM, control theBirds, UM slow down, take them
and make him inefficient, UM andmatch Boston's physicality. We couldn't be looking
at the upset here, ladies andgentlemen. Somebody needs to put the walls
of Jericho or angle slam on smart. I don't know who, but somebody
needs to do. UM. Beingsaid, that being said, folks,
(52:42):
go ahead and try to wrap thisup. UM. I do appreciate everybody
who either got to watch it liveand I know this is the middle of
the day or work day for somepeople. But UM, I did try
to get it out long in aheadof time enough for people that you know,
kind of square out the hour orWHATNOTUM. But of course watch it
after the fan, you know.UM, if you subscribe to the IMT
and Worldwide Radio page, that's easyto do. But don't forget. Later
(53:04):
on tonight we have another interview withanother legend in the Hawks broadcasting and that's
gonna be bought rapping. But let'sdefinitely again shout out to Steve Holman again
he's been doing this for such along time. Again, he is a
fan, he said, he saidagain. That's why one of the biggest
things about being a fan of theAtlanta hawkses he is part of it.
He is vested. He has avested interest in what this team does.
(53:25):
And he noticed this all this foolerythat be going out there in the city
of Atlanta. Just letting you anup, all right. So it's one
of those deals where be a fan, be a positive fan. You could
be critical about stuff, but stophating that. That does nobody any good.
And again, when you hear somethingor read something and stuff, check
(53:47):
it out a little bit before youshare it and make it fast because there's
some people who, again they're very, very very casual, and now they're
just gonna be looking at stuff andbe like, oh, that must be
true. Right, So let's tryingto kind of be careful about that.
Within the city of Atlanta. Ifyou're in Atlanta especially, kind to be
careful about that. Just say,um, but let's be excited about this
(54:10):
series coming up. Let's Steve,we can get back to the Eastern Conference
finals again. All bets are offat that point. I believe the Hawks
could win again. You know whatI'm saying. We're still healthy right now.
We're dangerous team as far as ourconcerned. So I'm excited. George,
any final? Where is real?Quick? Um? Yeah, just
(54:30):
the same man, you know onceagain out set an interview by Steve Holtman.
You know, seven lots of balls, so personable. Um. You
know, when you've stopped by thefilm, he's just as nice as could
be. You know, when youpost a picture or shout him out on
Twitter, he responds to the people. So here's a man of the people.
Um. And so everybody, let'slet's rally behind these Hawks. You
(54:52):
know, let's get excited. Likeyou say, we know we've had some
ups and dials this season, butas Steve mentioned, the comments such as
say, all of that's behind usnow we are in the dance and so
you know you can't win for yourain end like both of you guys said
as well. And so let's rallybehind this team or support this team.
And if you can, and Iknow, well you know, people's fighting
(55:14):
uses are different, but if youcan make at a point to try to
come out to State Farm Arena forat least one of these two playoff games,
Let's touch this house out with Hawksfans. Let's limit the number of
green jerseys that are in the building. And you know, if you see
somebody with a green jerseys, don'tstart a fight or anything like that,
but boo them mercilessly. I mean, let them know that that is not
(55:35):
welcome here in Atlanta. And Ithink if we do that, we have
played our guys, we can helpprepared the Hawks to winning both of these
games in Atlanta and hopefully the seriescomes back to Atlanta one one and we
can leave Atlanta three one. Exactlythat being Stair Sulster are gonna go.
Get out of here and make sureyou are subscribed to the IMTAM Worldwide Radio
(55:58):
YouTube channel. Make sure you canfollow on Instagram, I MT and Worldwide
Radio Instagram and on Facebook. Ifyou can follow us on Twitter and to
let at L and Jordan twenty threeat L, make sure you do that,
please, please please, and belooking forward to uh I mt and
worldwide Radio website in the near futureas well. That being said, thanks
again for Steve Holman being on theshow, one of the greatest guests that
(56:21):
