started in a future episode. But right now, let's go
ahead and bring in our co host for tonight's show.
(01:44):
He is a long time Atlanta sports fan. He's a
pass Atlanta sports writer as well current Atlanta resident Jordan Jackson.
Let's go ahead and bring Jordan in. How you doing tonight, sir?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
What's going on, sir?
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Happened to be I'm back on the Rodney atl on
the very first episode of Sports Vision ninety two point
one fl that's always love to talk about these Atlantas
Georgia sports, sir.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
So if you happen to be watching on IMT and
Worldwide Radio on YouTube, you know we usually do a
two hour show. We talk Falcons, Braids, the Hawks, Atlanta United,
Atlanta Dream, the new volleyball team Atlanta V that's already started.
We talked college sports too, Uga Georgia Tech, Georgia State,
Clark Atlanta, and all the HBCUs in the state of Georgia.
(02:36):
We're also going to start talking about high school sports
as well. Also sports in the Columbus Georgia Area, the
Columbus Lions, the River Dragons, the I'm forgetting some of
them now all of a sudden, here we go the
River Dragons. Oh, and the Klingstones, the Braves doublea farm
(02:59):
team that's here now, and also Columbus State University and
other teams. But tonight we're gonna focus on two sports
for our new listeners for our thirty minute version of
this show on Sports Visions ninety two to one for
the next few weeks, we're gonna talk Falcons and we're
gonna talk the Atlanta Hawks. But we're gonna talk Falcons first.
So the Atlanta Falcons, they had themselves a pretty decent
(03:21):
off season, most people thought, right. You know, they were
supposed to fix all the issues from the twenty twenty
three season. New head coach, new offensive and defensive coordinator,
new quarterback, drafted some new players, got some free agents.
We were looking at a ten win season, probably right,
division win, playoffs all on the horizon. Eight and nine
(03:43):
was the resultful, folks, a one game improvement, just one
missed the playoffs again. What went wrong? Was it too little,
too late to switch from Kirk to Pinnix? Was it
the change going from a four to three to a
three to four defense. Was it the management of game
situations by the head coach? What was it? So, Jordan,
i'mna allow you to go first. Were some of the
(04:04):
things that you say most attributed to the season leading
to a failure.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Well, sir, honestly, of those things you mentioned, it's all
of the does. A big part of it was absolutely
sticking with Hurt Cousins too long after that Denver Broncos
game where the Falcons were going out pretty badly. I
thought that's when the switch should have been made. Instead,
Cousins was allowed to stay here multiple weeks after that,
(04:32):
one of which resulted in the loss through the Los
Angeles Chargers in a game in which he threw four interceptions.
Another big part of the west the Clark management, because
had we won the Wasshton Commander's Game, then it would
have put us in a situation where we could have
win an end situation against the Carolina Panthers in the
final game, but unfortunately coach Morris stilled to call time
(04:55):
out vote before the half limited us to three points
when we could have got seven, as well as after
at the end of the.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Game when we didn't get anything when.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
We should and we should have won the game at
the end. So yes, that was a big part of.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Everything.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
And so I think the biggest factor was indeed coaching. Sir, Well,
here's how I think about it.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
You played to win the game.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Hello, Thank you coach Edwards for reminding us that is
the goal is to win the game. Right. So one
of the things I kept saying for a while, two
things can't be right. Pennix can't be drafted eighth and
be really bad, and Kirk is healthy and also playing
really bad and just being bad and still playing because
(05:51):
of the contract. We now know that Pennix was ready
to make the throws that were needed to be made.
We know that Kirk couldn't have been healthy because of
the throws. He wasn't right. And so I said that
after that Saints game where he threw for three hundred yards,
no touchdowns but the interception, we couldn't lose to Denver,
after that where he only threw for one hundred and
seventy three yards in an interception, no touchdowns, and then
(06:13):
definitely not to the Chargers, who right after the bye,
he threw for two hundred and forty or five yards
and four interceptions. That move should have been made earlier,
you know what I'm saying, because then we would have
had a little bit more of a chance. But what
happened was no change was made. We lost to the Chargers.
We lost to the Vikings as four games in a row,
and that basically lost us the division because we just
(06:34):
won one of those games. We end up tied and
we win the division. If that move had been made,
we beat Denver, we beat the Chargers, we keep eating
better with the Vikings. I think we still beat the
Raiders in the Giants, but Pennis would have been better
ready for Washington, I think, although I don't think we
lost a game because of him, and definitely that Carolina
(06:55):
mishapped because of the defense that just gave up all
those points to Bryce Young. But now here we are
scaring down the barrel of the Falcons having a backup
quarterback for one hundred million dollars a year. Still no
pass rush, still no corners, no depth, fat linebacker. We
just hired somebody else who's already been here and Jeff
(07:16):
Ulbrick to be the defensive coordinator. So what has to
happen for our team to finally build a complete team.
It's been nineteen sixty six, two Super Bowl appearances. I
just don't think it's enough. What do you think, Jordan, Well.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
First of all, I mean the attention has to be
placed on the defensive side of the football, and not
just by bringing in veteran free agents, which is the
route we've gone recently.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
But that needs to be some first.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Round draft picks being spot on defense so that you
can get some young defenders in here that are on
the four rookie scale contract and then something and that
guys you can deal with to have on your team
for that game, plus should they work out. So that's
a big part of it. Until sir you mentioned Jeff,
only bring me a new defensive coordinator, and I just
(08:08):
gotta say, I don't feel like it's fair that Jimmy
Lake has been made to take the brunt of all
of what's going wrong on defense. Don't get me wrong,
I don't think Jimmy Lake was a great defensive coordinator,
but I'm not buying the fact that Raheem Morrish just
took over and put a bigger hand on the defense
after the bye week. So you need to tell me
(08:28):
that our hair couldn't try the first.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Year defensive coordinator who's never.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Called pensive NFL level, and he just took his hand
off and let the man do whatever he wanted to
on defense.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That's a hard set and be the bye, sir.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
That's a hard pill to swallow, right, you know when
you just put it just like you said it. And
that's why I keep complaining with other people. It's like,
let's be reasonable about this at a certain point. Right.
So again, it's gonna be a long off season. You know,
the draft is a couple of weeks or months away,
I guess, but we need to see some some major
(09:01):
changes at this point because we can't do this again.
I don't believe what do you think, Well, certainly, I
don't think we can do this again.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Auton Blank will put up with this again because on
this particular coaching staff, Raheem Morris and his staff came in.
There were promises that we can win now. They was
taught that we can compete in a superban right now.
So this is not a rebuilding project. And this was
not a rebuilding effort. But you know, I honestly, I
(09:33):
just I don't know what to make of the staff.
When I look at the history of Raheem Morris, he's
never coached the top fifteen defense in yards allowed, but
he's the only coaching were top ten defense in points allowed.
That was number nine win back when he was the
head coach of Tampa Bay. So the track record of
success just isn't there, sir.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah, I completely agree, and we'll get to talk about
this a lot more of the next couple of weeks.
So let's talk to Atlanta Hawks basketball. Now, I do
miss my sounders for the Atlanta Hawks. We're gonna figure
out the way to do that next show. Twenty twenty
three was a disaster for the Atlanta Hawks for all
intensive purposes. We had five players missed twenty five games
(10:16):
or more, including Trey Young with twenty eight. We finished
tenth in the East, lost twenty games by seven points
or less, twenty six in blocks, twenty fifth in points
in the paint, giving up twenty eighth and fast break
points giving up we had no bench. Hawks lost the
last seven games of the season, three of them where
they gave up eighteen threes, twenty three threes and eighteen
(10:38):
threes in a row. And by the way, Trey didn't
play any of those Just let you know, now that
being said, if they just won two or three of
those games, the Hawks would have gotten home court for
the play and and hey, we might have beat the Bulls.
You never know. This all season was the first time
since twenty twenty that they made moves to fix some
of the issues from the previous two seasons. Dyson Daniels,
(11:01):
who's pacing to be defensive player of the Year. They
drafted Zach Recerche who's gonna be our future small four, permanently,
move Hunter to the bench, which he's pacing to be
six Man of the Year. And by the way, Trey
and Jalen Johnson should be All Stars this year, right.
Larry Nets Jr. Was a solid move as well. The
Hawks at this time last year were eighteen and twenty three.
(11:23):
Now at the moment of this show being recorded, they're
currently twenty three and twenty. No matter what, that is
a huge turnaround for how they were playing last year.
This team is better than a year ago. Now. Some
people are out there saying stuff like this, though still
people say that they can't play defense with Trey Young
on the floor. That is false. People say that team
(11:43):
loses games because Trey Young and his defense loses games
for them. That is also false. Trey Young is not
the player that gives up the most points per game.
People also say they don't want Trey because he's a
bad player. That's also false. Okay, you can't say these
things on a regular basis because they're just not true.
(12:04):
And I've shown this a lot, but I just wanted
to emphasize how untrue these things are. Let's see if
I can make this happen real quick and here we go.
Just had to put that out there. As far as
(12:25):
my disdain of those statements. There so one thing I've
always talked about, you got to prove it, you know,
Denzel Washington and training, they said, it's not what you know,
is what you can prove. Right this summer on around
the ATL I explained why the Hawks would be better
using game results, stats and game film. October second, I
posted on Twitter and to let ATL that the Hawks
(12:47):
would finish sixth in the East and look where they
are right now. Then I said, I believe they could
finish higher and have a shot at the Eastern Conference finals.
What do y'all think and do you think the Hawks
with Trey Young can win a champion, should why or
why not? It's gonna be the question. So Jordan, what
are your thoughts on the season so far? Sir, Well, sir,
(13:07):
there are a lot.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Of things I've been pleased by in the season. Number One,
We're playing much better defense as a team overall this season,
and a big part of that I think is due
to addition by subtraction, in other words, getting to Jeant
Murray out of here and bringing in Dyson Daniels. It's
(13:28):
been just a major all the difference in the world
because you have a guy who could actually stop the ball,
who can play defense at the point of attack, and
who really wants to play defense, who this goal is
to be all defense first team, and the fact that,
my cream, he should be the leading candidate for Defensive
Player of the Year right now. But one of the
other things I've been extremely pleased by is the continued
(13:53):
ascension of Trey Young as a passer.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
We know he's been one of the best young passes
to come into this game in a long time, even
prior to this season, but we've seen him take another
leads the sense of improved every year and now he's
on the same trajectory as a passer as guys like
Magic Johnson and John Stockton, who also took a big
(14:17):
lead at.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
A similar time in their career.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
In fact, one of the things I saw this week
I thought it was very interesting is that Pram Young already.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Has more assists in his NBA career.
Speaker 4 (14:33):
Than ninety seven point nine percent of all players in
NBA history.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Sir, So you know I can, I can go on
and on regards to mister Trey Young, but I'm not
gonna do that just yet, because I do want to
mention a couple of things that you touched on as well.
The Hawks don't allow shooting guards to drop thirty easily anymore. Right,
despite the Hawks being last, than three is given up,
though that has been offset by the fact that they're
(15:00):
better at some of those other categories. The points in
the paint giving up, the fast break points being given up,
they're not doing that anymore. We can complete, we can
compete per the matchups better again, as you mentioned, addition
by subtraction of certain players not here giving up a
whole bunch of points anymore. I still feel though we
are center away from being a true contender. It's one
(15:22):
of the positions we've been weak at for really decades. Actually,
one of them I do want to mention is Vujovich,
who's right now averaging twenty and ten forty five from three. Right.
I do want to play something though. There's a game
that was played a few weeks ago against the Spurs
and the Hawks, and people keep talking about defense and
(15:45):
things of that nature, which is fair, but in this
particular game, we lost that game before it got to overtime.
I'm gonna play those two plays real quick, and I'll
describe them probably later on the show, but for those
who are watching, let me play those real quick.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Calden Johnson steping in kicks it out the cell quick fire.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Jerseys, and there's Jens Johnson. Those two plays where we
basically let two people hit wide open freeze or while
we lost that game because we had to leave both
times by three, so we stopped one of those threes
that just got hit in the in the highlights there,
(16:37):
we win that game. And Trey Jon wasn't in either
of those plays. Okay, so I'll talk about that another time,
but I just had to say that, actually, you know what,
we have a caller. Let's bring this caller in real
quick Go ahead, caller, and let us know your name.
Where you call it from, sir.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
How you guys doing time listener? Love the show? Or
excuse me, first time? Call it a long time listener.
My name is Blake. I'm from Marietta, Georgia, and I
love the Hawks. Like he's how you do it tonight?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
You're pretty good Marietta. Where is better? Huh? I hear
you pretty much? Oh, we're talking Hawks right now, Blake?
What do you think about the Hawks so far?
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Obviously today it was a tough loss up in the Garden,
but I didn't expect them to go three now against
the Knicks.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
But I mean the kind of what you guys were
speaking on a moment ago.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
I definitely think the team is more complete this year
than they were last year.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
The defense hasn't improved. I think a big.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
Reason while the Hawks are sitting at a positive record
halfway through the season unlike the past couple of years,
is because they've actually been playing better against the teams
at the bottom of the conference, teams like the Hornets, Bulls, Raptors,
next even the Heat. The Hawks have lost the season
season series two the last couple of years and it's
been a big reason as to why we've ended up
in the nine, ten to eleven spots and the playing
(17:56):
outside of five to sixty seven. Now, the Hawks are
gonna have to continue to do that in the second
half of the year and repeat what they did if
they want to have a chance at that five to
six seed, as you guys were talking about a couple
of minutes ago. But it's definitely been a major improvement
I think from what we saw last year. Yeah, I
think they've done a good job handling the contenders. I
think they're a more complete roster overall. Still think there's
(18:19):
some inconsistencies out of guys like Bogie Papella even Dre
that long term we have to find better spots to
fill the roster with. But overall, it's been a lot
more fun this year than I thought it would be.
And if we can get healthy down the stretch like
we did for the Vegas run, it might be a
very fun summer like we had a couple summers ago.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Thanks guys, I appreciate that, Blake, And before you go, Blake,
I want you to mention how we actually met a
long time ago, and mention what do you do.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Oh yeah, very funny story.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
So I'm a one to be Atlanta sports broadcaster, a
fanatic of all the teams just like you guys. And
I met Chris up here through the Twitter waves and
I believe the A YouTube podcast because my show had
a very similar name to yours around the A and
so very very good stuff there, and I love doing
(19:11):
Twitter spaces.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
With these gentlemen.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
We talked live Atlanta Podcast on all three teams on
X so good stuff over there as well.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Man. It's always been fun getting to hang with you
over the last couple of months, Blake, and definitely make
sure you continue to call into the show man. We
definitely support each other.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Okay, yes, sir, I think I got a brave space
this week, so yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I'll be there. Thank you, Mike.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
And I'm not sure if I follow you on TULA
or not, but I we would be if I don't really, Okay,
I try to follow people back about toll sir.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Okay, you guys.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Have a great night, all right, man, Blake? That was
Blake from Marieta. Where is better in Atlanta, Georgia. We
always appreciate some of our longtime listeners and callers to
the show. So as we kind I want to close
out just the Hawks and the Falcons talk. We just
we just are looking at just wanting to get better
as a whole, but definitely competing. And the Hawks are
(20:08):
right now they're competing, you know, and they have a
chance to do something I think, you know, pretty special
this year. Health, like Blake said, is definitely gonna come
into play right now. So that's the thing. I mean,
we still have that issue year after year. Somehow I
don't know what Emeriy is doing to our guys, but
we'll figure it out. So Jordan, let's do this. I
need to talk about some college stuff now, because we
(20:30):
hadn't done that in a while actually, So okay, So
for the folks that are listening, are you fans of
a college team in Georgia? Did you graduate from one?
If so, which one, let us know? Hit us up
and to let atl or Jordan twenty three atl on Twitter.
How about high schools? I graduate from Kendrick High School
myself in Columbus, Georgia, and I do plan on concentrated
(20:53):
on some of the other sports in Columbus life. Again,
I mentioned earlier the Columbus River Dragons, the Columbus Lions
Arena football team, the Columbus Clean Stones. That's the Braves
double a team that's moving to Columbus. Now, I do
want to broach a couple of things real brief. Uga
did not mate the college football playoff unfortunately. Should we
(21:14):
be worried about the quarterback situation? The Braves are having
the worst off season and basically the last ten years
at this point, should we have any expectations per what
the Dodgers are doing. They're spending like a trillion dollars
on everybody, right. Can the Atlanta Dream do anything this year?
The Atlanta Vibe are two and two so far this season.
Their next match is January twenty third at Gas South
(21:34):
Arena in Atlanta. Make sure you get your tickets, Jordan,
I believe you had a couple of points of interests
of Atlanta United. I believe.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yes, sir.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
The reports are out there that Miguel L. Molune We
will be making his way back to Atlanta United. He
was a keypiece Atlantic United Women in their first MLS
Cup championship when he was the main setup guy for
mister Joseph Martinez.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Wow, that's pretty big news. All of a sudden there.
I didn't know that because Atlanta United does have an
MLS Cup everybody, if you didn't know. Now, the Columbus Lions,
they don't play until March, but remember they actually won
their championship last year. All the Columbus fans, so make
sure you go and support them this year if you
enjoy hockey. The Columbus River Dragons next game is on
(22:26):
January twenty fourth at seven thirty five in Columbus, Georgia.
They're playing the Athens Rock Lobsters and the Braves double
a baseball team, the Klingstones. They actually don't start until April,
but it's never too early to plan. Season starts April
fourth and the home schedule starts April fifteenth, I believe, yep.
So that being said, we're gonna start kind of widen
(22:47):
things down just a little bit here and again thanks
for everybody who's gonna be supporting around the atil here
on Sports Visions ninety two to one FL This has.
Speaker 4 (22:56):
Been, you know, a long, long, long, long.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Journey and all you know, intensive purposes, but we're we're
definitely looking to have fun. We want you to listen,
we want you to share the show too. If you're
in Atlanta, Columbus, Texas, Australia, tele a friend that enjoy
Atlanta and Georgia sports. You can keep up with future
shows on Sports Vision's ninety two to one UH ninety
(23:22):

and Worldwide Radio dot com page. I'll have it there,
post it and of course subscribe to the I M
T and Worldwide Radio YouTube page. If you want to
watch the live stream as well, make sure you bookmark them,
put them on your computer, put them on your phone,
and make sure, of course you follow myself on Twitter,
intellect a t L and my co host Jordan Jackson
(23:42):
Jordan twenty three at L. There was something else I
wanted to mention too. I have a little bit of time.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
One thing.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
That's to my heart.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
It's gonna take place Columbus, Georgia this year, as it
does every year. There's the Fountains City Classic. That is
the yearly class in football between my school, Albi, the
State University and the hated brother Film Valley State University.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
And I'm gonna try to.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Make the trip down there live, you know, so I
can really give y'all a real skinny on what's going
on with the Fountain City classes this year.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
Sir, that'll be awesome. It's been a while since I've gone.
I won't lie. Sometimes it's just because I wasn't living
in Columbus at the time, I couldn't make it. But
we'll see. We can make that a live remote show possibly, right.
So that being said, I do want to mention this.
If you're in Columbus or Atlanta, do not forget. And
(24:46):
I want to say again thank you to Southern Classic
Transportation for becoming our first sponsor. Let me throw them
back up here real quick. Their number is four O

give a shout out to the guys in a Southern
Classic Transportation. They will show you a new standard in
service if you give them a chance.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Like you said, if you want.
Speaker 4 (26:06):

Nashville or Chattanooga or a person Mayham, the guys in
the Southern Classic Transportation will certainly take care of you.
And so yeah, give those guys. Give those guys a call.
I promise you you won't be disappointed. One last person
(26:27):
note I also wanted to add was the Hawks record
against the top teams in the East this year. Is
seventh and three. That's also a big factor of what
they're doing. Look a fair to just getting more into
