the show, mister Jordan Jackson at he's in the ATL
parts of the world right now. Jordan, how you doing tonight, sir?
Speaker 4 (02:16):
What's going on, sir? Doing well?
Speaker 3 (02:18):
I'm glad to be on around the attL on Sports
Visions ninety two point one fl I was always a
lot to talk about in the nat of sports today,
sir so would that being said, let's talk about it.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
So needless to say, there's a lot going on over
the last couple of weeks in sports, so let's go
ahead and get into it. As Jordan mentioned, first and foremost,
let's talk Atlanta ID. They lost to the Vegas Thrill
three to one on the road. Leah Edmund last year.
Last year's MVP had nineteen points in one ace. They
(02:52):
next played the Orlando Valkyries on February sixth, and don't
forget you can watch these games on the Pro Volleyball
Ration YouTube page at Real pro VB Victor biz In Boys,
so make sure you check them out. The Columbus River
Dragons they were beat by the bing and Binghampton Bears
five to one recently. Not too good, but there was
(03:14):
one bright milestone for Ford Alexander Jamais. He scored his
two hundredth point of his career in that particular game.
And I know they're gonna win their next one. They
actually played the Athens rock Lobsters on February fifth, on
the road, So go check them out, and they'll be
coming back to the Columbus Georgia area very soon for
their next home game soon. So let's go ahead and
(03:36):
just we gotta read the room. I'm we're doing this
quick tonight. The Atlanta Falcons, we were bamboozled, lied to
whatever you want to call it. Cousins, Morris, everybody, Now,
I said this, two things can't be both true. Pennick's
drafted eighth but can't play. Kirk was healthy but playing
really bad, and we can't bench them per the money.
(03:59):
But we know he was benched, and we know Pennix
can play, and now we get the confirmation from Kirk himself.
And then we lost four straight games for no reason
basically except that the head coach could have made a
decision that he didn't chose not to make a move.
And then guess what, just throw that throw a little
bit in there. Miles Garrett asked for a trade, y'all
(04:20):
out of nowhere from the Cleveland Browns. So do the
Falcons pull the trigger? Can they pull the trigger? Do
we have enough to even make a move in the
first place, But we know we need it. He had
fourteen sacks last season. That's almost as many as a
whole Falcons team put together. And he has one hundred
and two for his career. And he doesn't need a
special system, quote unquote to make a difference in the game. So, Jordan,
(04:43):
with all that being said, what do you think with
these new happenings in the Falcons world right now?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Well, I'll start real quickly with the Biles Garrett situation,
with the fact that the Falcons Achilles heel has been
passed rusher for many many years. I mean, we haven't
had a dominant assistant pass rusher this John Abraham, you
absolutely have to make an offer for Miles Garrett. Now
Leeland was general manager is saying that he's not gonna
(05:11):
train Miles, so hes like we might be here for
a bit of a standout there, but absolutely, you pick
up the phone to make a call. You offer some
draft picks, you know, you see, you know if they'll
take a player or two off your team, and you know,
Miles Garrett is such a good player that he's worth
restructuring contracts for and everything else to make him fit
(05:32):
under your cap. Because the generational pass rusher like him,
a future Hall of Fame pass rusher just doesn't come
available all the time. In regards to Kirk Cousins, I mean,
this guy has been doing nothing but getting the facts
into messes when he opens his mouth in press commases.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
And clearly this was intentional for him to let it
out that he was hurt.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Now you see the videos come out showing the play
which he got hit very hard against New Orleans and
that's when the losing street started. So I just think
this is kirk Cousins posturing, trying to let other teams
know I can still play. I deserve to be a
starter somewhere next.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Year because it's not.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Gonna go like it did at the end of that year.
And that's basically a response to the Falcons saying that
they're comfortable with him being the backup here next year.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
But with that being said, so the Falcons could be
in trouble. You couldn't see a fine coming.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
But even sending one drought of the draft picked being
taken away, possibly because they did not disclose this man
on the entry report except for one day after that
Saints game.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Sir, it's a mess, And like I said, those we
should have won a division. We should have been in
the playoffs and maybe even a playoff win, and it
was all basically just erased in front of our eyes
for no reason at all. So we're going to see
what happens in the near future. Moving on, we gotta
go quick tonight Atlanta Dream Before we recorded last week's show,
(07:01):
all of a sudden, Britney Grinder is on the Atlanta
Dream Guy seventeen points, seven rebounds, two blocks in her
career so far. She brings sides to the team which
they have never really had, and so with Ryan Howard
Alisha Gray, they finally have a core that actually might
be able to compete. We also know they have a
coaching change that they made Carl Smesko, who has six
hundred and seventy two coaching victories under his belt out
(07:24):
of college, but now he's going to be in the
w NBA. Jordan, do you think these things are going
to make the Ladies of the Atlanta Dream a contender
this season?
Speaker 3 (07:33):
I absolutely think that it's making the formidable Brittany Grinder.
Though she's a veteran, he's still a presidence in the middle.
She's still like you said, well, you mentioned her career numbers,
but She also still averaged close to her career numbers
last year seventeen point eight points per game, six point
six rebounds per game, a block.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
And a half per game, still playing.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Basketball at a high level, still protecting the rim at
the high level. She shot fifty seven point nine percent
from the bill and seventy seven point seven percent on
the free throws, so still playing very well. Also think
the acquisition of Breonna Jones coming over to the Dream
as well. He averaged thirteen point seven points per game
(08:18):
with five point five boards with Connecticut last year, three
time All Star, one time All Defensive team player. So
with the new coach and with those acquisitions to go
along with Ryan Howard and.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
Alisha Gray, I just literally think that Dre could make
some lewyds. This your sir.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
I'm looking forward to just having a fresh season and
one that's competitive because we've needed that for a long
time with the Dream per their past, right, So Atlanta United,
they brought back Miggie then, think this was really out
of the blue here. Miguel Almeron is back on the
team at least until twenty twenty seven. He was actually
(08:56):
one of the main reasons that Atlanta United has an
MLS Cup currently, So, Jordan, how big do you think
this move is for the Atlanta United plus some of
the other moves that they made lately.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
I think it's a very big move.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Number one, if you just judge off of the fan
reaction from the move, you had fans of contingent of
fans meeting this man at the airport carrying him off.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
He's stopping side a lot of graphs, you know, just feeling.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
The love from the Atlanta United faithful, which is absolutely
one of the most rabid fan bases in MLS.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
And it's to the point where other fans up soccer
around the world know who you're Atlanta United FC is.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
So with that being said, I also thank you to
help we're getting other guys in here to playing, because
Miggy has always been a guy who said sets other
players up, well, it looks to you know, facilitate. In fact,
he was the facilitator for the reconsenting season of Joseph Martinez.
So yes, I think this is absolutely step in the
right direction as well as having a new coach also,
(10:00):
and so I think a eleven n is gonna be
looking to make a return to the top of the
table to sticks year, Sir.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
He definitely helps fill the void of Martinez being gone
because he was he was a catalyst basically for all
those seasons. So this is definitely renewal and it definitely
puts the fans in a mode where we've been filling
up Mercedes Bens all this time. Give us something to
go there for though, just instead of just being there
(10:26):
at a certain point.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Right.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
So with all that on the professional side, let's get
into some high school and college sports for a little bit.
Let's talk. Let's talk Columbus Georgia high school sports first.
So Carver Tigers. They destroyed Columbus High seventy five twenty seven. Recently,
Spencer beat My Kendrick Cherokee sixty one to thirty nine.
I don't like that. Shaw beat Columbus sixty eight to
(10:51):
forty hard the way loses to Cover ninety one twenty four.
That's not great. And Jordan loses to Columbus sixty eight
forty sis for the ladies. Jordan loses a Sumter County
on the road sixty nine to twenty five. Spencer showed
no mercy to Kendrick again eighty seven to ten. I
don't even know how that happened. Sumter County beat Shaw
(11:12):
sixty five thirty five, and Hardaway beats car For sixty
nine thirty nine. UGA Bulldogs didn't play well against Alabama
Crimson Tide. They lost ninety to sixty nine. They're fifteen
to seven overall in the SEC. However, Georgia Tech beat
Louisville seventy seventy seventy seven to seventy, but they're ten
and twelve overall in the ACC. Currently, and Georgia State
(11:35):
they lost to Appalachia State in the closet one eighty
to seventy six and they're eight and fifteen overall, so
they're having a really bad year. Actually, Georgian any scores
that you got for us on the HBCU side of
the offencer.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Oh yes, I do.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Fitsbino just wanted to give a shout out to LiTi Censub.
I attended a long time in high school. Lee County
High School beat North Side sixty five to twenty nine,
and the school I graduated from, Doherty beat Spouting fifty.
With that being said, in the HBCU arena, we've had
some interesting batchups here lately. Albany State defeated Fort Valley
(12:13):
State seventy three to fifty two in the big rivalry. Also,
most recently yesterday, Albanie State defeated the Skeating Actually I'm sorry.
Fort Valley State defeated the Keeping sixty six.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
To sixty five. Also, you have more House. You have
more House seventy five, Clark Atlanta seventy one, which is
the key Atlanta area score.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
And you also had some Battle State losing the Morehouse
as well. Recently Morehouse beat them sixty five to fifty nine.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
So as we get ready to train possition to our
next seven, we're gonna take a very very quick pause.
We're gonna see we can make this work.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
So, first of all, you are listening to Around the
at l with Chris and Jordan will be right back
with more Atlanta sports talk. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Around the eighty m to the time is where I'm going.
Around the eighth we take to it like Yung eight.
You know, the young keep in the streets, bright, the bite,
like the beat. But you can't do it like me
(13:44):
every time a bit. Yeah, you know that it's flame.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah, they come and seat rough man on my head
of the game, my crime.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And we are back on sports Visions ninety two one FM.
This is a around the atl with Chris and Jordan.
How are y'all doing tonight? So let's talk Atlanta Hawks basketball.
And we have a lot of stuff that's happened obviously
in the last really twenty four to forty eight hours
in the last week, A lot of stuff has happened.
But first and foremost, let me just say this, Luca
(14:16):
was traded first, Okay, just wanted to get that out
there now Before we talk about that in general, I
want to talk about that Pacers game that just happened,
right and the fact that Trey Young had sixty eight points,
that he produced thirty four points, seventeen assists at thirteen
points in the fourth quarter, three assists in the fourth quarter.
(14:37):
He is fourth in the NBA in sixty four passes
a game. He's first in clutch points, first in points
created by assists at twenty eight a game, first in
potential assists at twenty one a game, and leads the
league in both a total assist and assist per game.
Yet we're having a problem building a roster around Trey Young.
Since twenty eighteen, Trey has been no less than six
(14:59):
in per tent assists the game and was first both
last year and this year. Trey is shooting forty five
percent on shots that either tie a game or took
the lead in the game, nineteen for forty two and
I got that from mister Rashad Phillips aka Yoda today
on Twitter. That's almost fifty percent. Guys. He's one of
the most clutch players in NBA history, but the Hawks
(15:21):
again refuse to bring in consistent shooters or a big
that can score. The Hawks have never had it right.
Trey is a career twenty five to ten player and
despite this, which no other guard in the NBA can say.
By the way, he can't get into the All Star
Game for some reason. He's one of two players in
the NBA to lead the league in both points and assists,
(15:41):
and the only one in history to do it both
in the NBA and college. He's third all time in
thirty point ten assists games, only with James Harden and
Lebron James ahead of him. Trey is pacing to be
top ten in both scoring and assists in NBA history.
Yet again, Trey Young can't any respect whatsoever. Trey Young
(16:03):
just had another game winning shot against the Detroit Pistons
walking all over people, right, and we needed a lot
to win that game, Trey and the rest of the guys,
and Trey is still passing the ball each game, as
I mentioned, sixty four times a game. So again it's
Tony Wrestler as the owner of the Hawks, really trying
to win a championship in Atlanta. Jordan, tell me your
thoughts in regards to the Luca trade. Trades continued disrespecting
(16:27):
the NBA, Sir.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
The Luca trade was absolutely shocking, man.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
It really has gave a lot, given a lot of
credence to the conspiracy theorists to think that the league
will go out of the way to help the big
market teams.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Continue to stay relevant. Because it's just amazing. I mean,
my child life.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
You've gone from magic at Kareem to Kobe is Shocked
to Kobe again with Paul Gas, all of those guys, them, Lebron.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
James, and now Luca is the.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Next great Lakers star. Take It's a shame that a
GM would do a disservice to his friend Chibs by.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Not letting the whole league fel on a guy like that.
If you're gonna put him on.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
The trademark, Let the whole league bed and take the
best offer for your team.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Otherwise what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (17:17):
And you're not trying to make your team as good
as possible. So that's what I thought it was in
the Lupi trade, sir.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
And when you when you let me just say this
about Trey Young and you know he hit that shot.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
It's a dagger in their heart.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Thank you Dominique for that. And you see that. And
everybody in the league is of course online social media
and everything, and they're seeing this and they're and now
again it's stuff. It's stuff like this that puts it
in the forefront to say, why isn't Trey on the
All Star team again? And they see this for themselves
and it's like, well, what's really going on? And it
(17:56):
just makes it more blatant and more blatant and more blatant.
That's personal somehow, and how is that really possible? It
doesn't really make sense. And then again for the fact
that Luca was traded before Trey Young, Trey Young is
on him. There's only two people from twenty eighteen that
still are on their original teams. The other one is
Triple JM Memphis. Right, So just that right there just says, okay, well,
(18:20):
maybe it is not Trey for the people who hate
Trey Young obviously right, because Luca was the one who
got traded first for all the different reasons, speculation, whatever
they are. He's not a Dallas Maverick anymore, is the point?
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Right?
Speaker 2 (18:34):
So again, the other part of this is how come
the Hawks won't build around Trey. It's like, are we
are we looking at? Are we watch this? Listen?
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Are we about to get Bobo instead of actually giving
a bona fid center that could actually score in the post,
hit all the jump shots, the elbow jumpers, the ones
from the free throw line, you got. I just posted
it again on Twitter. Let me see if I can
pull it up real quick. I just posted just a
minute ago on Twitter. Here's what the guys are doing
tonight at the center position. Everybody. I'm gonna just read
(19:11):
these off to you. And some of these games are
not even over yet. Okay, they are not finished. Let
me see if I can post this up. Give me
a second here as I do this, because I just
posted this, so this is fresh, okay. Joel and B
twenty nine ten eleven, triple double, Cat twenty seven and
twenty one, Allen seventeen and nineteen, porzingis nineteen and seven.
(19:36):
So Gooon twenty five and nineteen where seventeen and twelve.
Why can't the Hawks have that? Because if we did,
guess what, Trey Young wouldn't have twenty one potential assist
the game. He would have actually twenty one assists the game.
That's what that means. And if we don't do that,
how can the ownership and the general manager tell Hawks
(19:57):
fans who keep emailing us to get s and tickets
right Jordan, and to spend money and they don't say
anything about winning. I talked about that earlier on on
the Live. They emailed me today talking about they want
me to buy some tickets and they say all these
things except winning. Is winning important or not? And that
upset That really upset me earlier just to see that email.
(20:21):
Knowing what we've seen over the last couple of years
and even this year, that doesn't look like they're trying
to be competitive.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Yeah, it's it certainly doesn't look like they're trying to
be competitive.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
And when you look at the Los Angeles Lakers about lifetime,
they probably had twenty two superstars and the Hawks have
only had two Dominique Wilkins a trade, and it's like
we're repeating the same mistakes of the Dominique Wilkins that
are a by just not having enough around our start
and not giving them a chance to go to battle
against these teams he's facing.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
That has two or three All Star type.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Players or two All NBA players at all defensive player
and that type of deal.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
And so you know, you're seeing.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
All this movement around the league and you want the
hows to get involved and do something.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Now.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
I have heard some names out there. I've heard Paul
George's name today. I've heard Brandon Ingram's name for about
a week now. So we'll see, you know, if the Harps.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Are able to get anything done.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
And I'm not here at Mussovich, who would help big
time in the center position. I haven't heard really anything
about the DeAndre Ayton, who you know, he has his
his issues, but he's still a very talented player, forming
number one overall pick, and he you know, would definitely
thrive playing with the best pass in the game in
Trey Young.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
And so while I.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Do think that this particular team this year was better
suited for trade than some of the more recent renditions
when everybody was healthy. Unfortunately, everybody healthy thing is gone
by the wayside.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Jaylor Johnson is out for the season. You know, who's
our second best player, And we just don't have enough depth.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
And I just think ultimately we need to change out
a few more pieces from the previous regimes team and
move forward. But you know, just a new ad literation.
So I'm hoping, you know, we got you know, to
Thursday at I forget I think four pm Eastern time
or something of that nature, till to trade that line.
(22:19):
I'm just hoping and hoping and hoping that they allowing
the hats able to get something done.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Sir, Well, the five things that makes your team a winner.
Your owner wants to win and does everything necessary to win.
You have a general manager that makes wise decisions over
a long period of time. You have a good to
great coach, you have good to great players, and you're healthy.
Health has destroyed this team over the last six seasons.
It's prevented us from doing a lot of things. But
(22:44):
then also you got to look at it from the
standpoint of personnel, and that's where management comes in, and
we've had chances to do it and we just did
not do And that's where the competitive spark comes in,
because I said this team should be a sixth seed
this year, maybe even higher. But that was president on
everybody being healthy and everybody doing their job right, being consistent,
(23:06):
and as you mentioned, they don't have to be necessarily
an all star, right, there's all NBA, there's all Stars,
and then you're very good and consistent, and we can't
even get really good and consistent sometimes. And that's upsetting
when you have Trey Young on the team and you
have our rookie doing what he can do. He's been
playing very well lately, right, but it all has to
(23:27):
happen at the same time, and then for games again
and again and again and again, not just once every
couple of weeks. You know, you had Hunter the other
day have four points in that Pacers game. We lost
that game by five. If Hunter gets his average, we
blow the up, we blow that team out, right, But
he had four points in that game in twenty nine minutes.
(23:47):
So it's just games like that that should not have
been lost, and we lost them just because we don't
have the depth or we don't have people performing on
a regular basis. But yet you have Trey Young out
there doing everything in his power to try to help
the team win each game, and he sees all his capatriots,
so to speak, on these other teams continue to get people.
(24:08):
Remember we're talking about that Luca trade. Luca had Brunson, Porzingis, Kyrie,
clay Right, Gafford, he had PJ. They got all these
guys for him, and he has two conference championship appearances
and he's won one. Trey and his third season got
to the Eastern Conference finals. We were two wins away
(24:29):
from the finals. And the very next season, the Atlanta
Hawks organization did nothing to follow that up. And at
that point it's like, well, what are we even doing?
And Damian Lillard stayed in Portland for twelve seasons and
they did nothing to help him win a championship over there.
I don't want to see that happen with Trey Young
here in that round.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Well, on a positive notes, sir, you kind of stole
my thunder with a quick mention of Zachary Risha say
he has been outstanding here. In his last three games,
he scored a total of sixty four points, with zero turnovers.
In his last three games, He's averaged twenty one point
three points per game, three rebounds.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
One point, seven assists.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
One steal, as I mentioned, zero turnovers, sixty five percent
from the bill and fifty nine percent from three point range.
So that's a very encouraging sign. Now, you also mentioned
DeAndre Hunter. He had a rare game in that went
over Detroit. He had twenty points, zero rebounds, zero assists,
(25:34):
zero steals, zero blocks, four fouls, so all we had
was points and fouls. He did nothing else in the
statu sheet whatsoever. So, like I said that, that was
very a very interesting game. And you know, as he mentioned,
he just recently had a full point game, and I
have heard his name come up in trade rumors. I've
(25:57):
heard the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Have called the a Lavahawks about DeAndre Hunter. So we'll see,
you know, if anything happens to that.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
I don't know what Cleveland has that we can won't,
but you know, there's always a chance to get some
kind of.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Three team deal together as well. And to be honest
with you, sir, you.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Know, if we get a good return, I'm all for
selling HI on DeAndre Hunter. I'm afraid that, just like
the story Cinderella, the clock is gonna strike midnight, He's
gonna turn back into a pumpkin, you know what I mean.
And with Ars signs up here recently, it could definitely happen,
or even worse, get hurt, which he does have quite
