this evening is a long.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Time sports fan in Atlanta, current Atlanta resident Jordan Jackson.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
How you doing tonight, sir, Doing well.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Sir, Just surveying the Atlanta and Georgia sports scene as usual.
A lot of exciting happenings going on in particularly in
the sport of basketball currently, and so I'm just excited
to get into it, sir.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
All Right, Well, that being said, let's go ahead and
get into our first segment of tonight. That's gonna be
a little high school basketball. And I was trying to
find it on here and I can't find the office. Sude,
Ain't that how it usually works on live radio Jordan.
So that being said Shaw, and actually this is the
end of the year for basketball for most schools, so

(02:39):
we're about to go into tournament time.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
So let's go over that.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Shaw won their last game of the season seventy three
fifty over Jordan to end the season ten and fifteen.
Carver won against Kendrick my school a seven to forty
seven to end the season twenty two and two. That's
very impressive. Kendrick does get a chance to qualify for
the tournament, though. Spencer beats hard Away sixty to forty
five and they end their season eighteen to six. Columbus

(03:06):
loses to Sumter County sixty to forty seven and ends
their season at ninety sixteen, and North Side loses their
last game eighty nine to fifty six to Stars mil
Here are some of the schools that are going to
be participating in tournament play. Kendrick versus Hardaway, North Side
versus Jonesboro. Carver will play the winner of Kendrick versus Hardaway,

(03:28):
And for the sake of time, we're going to do
a full, full review on next week's show of all
the tournament games, so stay tuned for that. You gotta
be listening, though, all the schedules have not been updated,
so that's why we can't do it tonight.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Jordan any Atlanta schools of note that we need to
pay attention to.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yes, Sir. Six to A.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Region seven leader North Cross defeated Duluth seventy to forty eight.
Five A Region four leader Woodward eighty three, Arrabia Mountain
forty eight. Region five leaders Southwest the cab fell for
the first time.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
This season, losing fifty six to ninety six to.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Northview and reason four A Region ford leader Pace Academy
beat Maynard Jackson seventy seven to sixty seven. Also three
eight Region five leader Cedar Grove sixty eight, Luela thirty seven.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Sir, A lot of billouts in those scores.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Those some high scores there, I'll tell you now, as
far as college basketball goes, UGA is in the mixed
still sixteen and eight is their record. They're thirteen and
two at home. Recently, they lost one of those two
games against Mississippi State unfortunately seventy sixty seventy five heartbreaker there.
They're gonna look to bounce back against Texas A and
m Knnesas State. They're fourteen and ten, so they're still

(04:49):
in it a little bit. They recently lost, however, the
Middle Tennessee State same score, seventy six to seventy five. Jordan,
what scores do you have in regards to our HBCUs Yes, sir.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I had very interesting weeks for Morehouse as well as
Clark Atlanta. Morehouse defeated my college Alburina State University eighty
three to.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
Seventy nine at overtime, but then they.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Fell to the rival of my college, Fort Valley State University,
sixty six to sixty four. Park Atlanta, who's having a
great season this year, defeated Fort Valley State seventy nine
seventy five, and they also defeated albin the State eighty
three to seventy five.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
And Clark gots going on this season, don't they.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
Yes, sir, we.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Need to find out a nice interest music for our
Atlanta Vibe team, our professional volleyball team. First off, they
have the All Star match coming up the Atlanta Vibe
do and they have four players named to the team.
Leah Edmond, last year's MVP, Morgan Hints, Merritt Beeson and

(05:57):
Corey Lewis have all been named to that team. So
congratulate to the ladies on the court. However, they lost
again unfortunately, this time to the Omaha Supernovas three to one.
Leah again led in points with eighteen, but didn't have
any aces this time and in fact only one ace,
only one ace was half for the match total. Currently

(06:18):
they're four and five, which is their record. Their next
match is actually going to be against the Grand Rapids Rise.
And if you haven't been to a game yet, make
sure you get tickets, make sure you support the team
at the Gas South Arena there in Atlanta, and you
can get those tickets on the Atlanta Vibe website. And
don't forget you can actually watch these matches on the
Pro Volleyball Federation YouTube page at Real pro VB via

(06:40):
Victor viaz in Boy. Now, when it comes to the
Columbus River Dragons in Columbus, Georgia, they came back in
a big way. As I said, they would last week right,
they lost to Binghamton Black Bears and also to the
Athens Rock Lobsters right after that, but they've won their
last two games since then against the same team.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Eive it or not.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
They had a home and home with the Biloxi Sea
Wolves and they won seven to four and then again
nine to one. In the first game, Kyle Moore had
one goal and four assists for five points total, and
then Justin McDonald had two goals and three assists for
five points. And then the second win, Kyle Moore again
had three goals and then Justin McDonald had two goals
and two assists, so they were really playing well. They

(07:23):
next played guess who the Athens rock Lobster is. They
playing them a lot for some reason, and hopefully they
beat them this time. They're currently third in the Continental
Conference and they're looking like a playoff team so far.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
So again, if you're in Columbus, Georgia, make sure.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
You support and buy tickets to watch them play any
other follow ups before we.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Get into the next seven.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
Jordan, Yes, I just want to give a shout out
to one of the high schools I attended.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
Lee kind of high school.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
They currently leading five to a Region two and defeated
Coffee County eighty to forty five.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Sir, appreciate that. Get ready to merge into our next semon.
We're gonna take a very very quick break. Don't go anywhere,
and especially if you're watching on the live stream i
MT and Worldwick Radio. Again, thanks for your support on YouTube.
We'll be right back on Sports Visions now YouTube one FM.

(08:18):
You're listening to Around the at l with Chris and Jordan.
Will be right back with more Atlanta sports talk. Much

(09:01):
and we're back on Sports Vision's ninety two to onefl
Around the atl fourth week of our show on the station.
We appreciate all the support so far. So we're getting
into pro basketball now in the Atlanta Hawks. And last week,
of course, we know a lot of stuff happened. Luca
was traded.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
First.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
We talked about that at length and by the way,
before I get started, congratulations to Trey Young. He is
on the All Star team again. It was much deserved.
We needed him on this team just for the principle
of everything, for the fact he's leading the league and
everything that's important. When it comes to a point guard,
he's the best. So we really want to give a
shout out to Trey Young. So we know, the trade

(09:40):
deadline was something that the Atlanta Hawks did have to
pay attention to, and it was kind of one of
those deals where we had to try to replace a
lot of what we did not have.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
So what was the options?

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Bogie, unfortunately is having a really bad season, his worst
buy by the numbers as a shooter, having his fourth
straight down year, was an option to trade and then
assorted pieces around that. Hunter was a possibility only because
he was having his best productive season as of Atlanta Hawk.

(10:13):
And then how else would you know, put together a
team around Trey and Jalen Johnson areas of need replaced
Jayden Johnson's twenty points, ten boards and five dimes of production.
Backup point guard was an option as well. What did

(10:34):
we end up doing though? Oh and also getting a center,
a center with skill, a center with size who could score.
That was another option, right, So the decision was made
to trade Bogey and Hunter. Inevitably, Bogie was traded to
the Clippers for Terrence Mann in Bones Highland. Hunter was
traded to the Cavaliers for Georgia's Niang and Karris LeVert

(10:54):
now Initially, I personally was not happy with the trade
for a few reasons. One, I thought we had enough
pieces to get Vucevich, who's giving you twenty and ten
forty from three or eight, or even John Collins who
gives he eighteen and eight, top finisher in the league,
has a great rapport with Trey. And Secondly, I would

(11:14):
have liked for them to kept bones Holland for a
number of reasons. Jordan, can you give us a little
bit of background on those three players before I get
into my actual reasons of why I do think that
these trades will help the team.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Yes, Sir karas Lerburg veteran sixth man player guard.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
He's not a point guard.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
In the traditional sense, but he can run a second unit, attacks,
will off the pick and roll going downhill, and also
shoot the three ball. Career ten point I mean he's
averaging ten point four points per game this season, thirteen
point eight for his career, three point six assistant season,

(11:55):
four point one for his career. Also, George's Miyang averaging
eight point eight points and three point eight rebounds this season.
The deal with mister Nang, though, is he's a career
thirty nine point eight three point shooter. He is shooting
forty point four percent on the season from three, and
it's shooting fifty percent from three in his two games

(12:19):
with Atlanta, So he gives Atlanta much need and stretch
for to help space the floor portraying the guys. Also,
Terrence Man, who came up from the Clippers career eight
points per game and three point five rebounds, came in
this year having a six point one points and two
point eight rebounds. But the big deal with Terrence Man
is he's a great defender, in fact, a better defender

(12:40):
than DeAndre Hunter, who he traded away, and he had
a defensive rating of one eleven with the Clippers this
season before coming over to Atlanta. So it just gives
Atlanta another guy that they can put it to slow
down good scores, aside from just using Dyson Daniels in that.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
And so some of those reasons you brought up, So
when I thought about it, I looked at depth.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
We needed the help there.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Obviously, we have three players that can hit shots on
a regular basis now, and you have a player in
Man that also gives you another defender on the court.
As you mentioned, I think you said one to eleven
defensive rating, which is going to be important in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Obviously.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
In the Yang you have a career forty percent shooter
from three. In Lavert you have her own version of
the microwave Vinnie Johnson as the old Detroit Pistons teams
used to have, right, and he gave us eighteen just
the other night in a win. The team's bench production
as a whole has also increased, with new players given
them a boost, as evidence in the three game win

(13:44):
streak that we have currently as a team as of
the recording of this show. Obviously, and I said, for
the rest of this season, all the players on the
roster are going to have to do their jobs. Whatever
that job is, you got to do it to the fullest,
to your extent, to the best of your ability. Larry Nats,
for example, can't have a one point game anymore. Kumo
Gi Muhammad Gay he has to be consistent as a

(14:05):
contributor on this team. But Congu, he has to be
solid even if he's not scoring. He needs to do
those other things well that he's able to do if
he's not needed to score. Our rookie Reshould saying he
needs to have the biggest second half of rookie has
ever had, because if he does that, he really makes
us over the top competitive as a team. And so

(14:27):
far some of those things are happening all at one time,
which is very exciting to see. And again, as of
the recording of this particular episode of Around the atl
on Sports Visions ninety two to one FM, the Hawks
are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. They have
the fourth best conference record at nineteen and thirteen. They're
only one game out of seventh, two games out of six,

(14:50):
three games out of fifth, and four and a half
games out of fourth place. So despite all the bad
and crazy things, the injuries, the trades, the Hawks still
have a opportunity to finish at least six in the East,
as I predicted on October second of last year. So, Jordan,
a couple of questions to you, sir, What do you
think about the trades overall and what do they do

(15:11):
now with Clint Capella who still has not appeared in
the game since January twenty seventh in that loss to
the Timberwolves. Can the Hawks avoid the play in and
can the Hawks win a first round series?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
What do you think.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Sports Visions ninety two point one FM around the atl
As far as the trades overall, I know a lot
of people are disappointed with the return we got for
DeAndre Hunter, and I understand that he was having his
best season, but just like we had concerns about him
possibly getting injured again, other teams obviously had those same concerns.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Also the fact that he.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Was making over twenty million dollars a year to come
off the bench, and so basically around this time last year,
the Hawks couldn't move him for anything without having a
had the first round pick to him to get rid
of him. So the man to get rid of him
for two productive players was a win. When you look
at that in comparison, I think that we've gotten deeper

(16:13):
overall by trading two ropes play players, one who was
struggling mightily in bogie this year for three guys who
could play, so that gives us more depth. Another interesting
part of that trade is Terrence Man is a very
experienced player, A veteran, he's played a mini playoff series.
When Kawhi Leonard went down with the Clippers, he was

(16:34):
the guy that Tyron lu trusted most guarding Luka Dantic
and he's also an excellent three point shooter from the corners, uh,
shooting forty six point from the left corner and fifty
percent from three on the right corner. And that's on
thirteen and twenty attempts. So we're not talking about, you know,
just a few shots.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Uh here fo all, I like, what what we done?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
I guess the only question I have is we really
didn't get a long term piece at all for Hunter
because Harris Laverge is a free agent after this year, so.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
We have to see what happens with that. We'll clear
some money up on.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
The salard cap going forward, but it just remains to
be seen how the Hawks use that.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
And it's short to answer a couple more of your questions.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
I do think it's a chance we can avoid the
play in. We've won three games in the row. We
can keep up this momentum and keep playing defense at
a high level.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
We can indeed still that sixth seed, and can we
win a first round playoff.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Series if we get the sixth seed?

Speaker 5 (17:38):
I think it's possible. It makes it more likely if
you're playing from the seventh and.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Eighth against the one and two seeds, it makes it
a lot harder to see Cleveland or Boston up at
the top.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
So exactly, I agree.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
I agree with that, just how this team is set
up now, it definitely would be harder to try to
do it from doing a play in and then getting
the eighth and or seventh seed and having to actually
play either Cleveland or Boston right off the bat. If
we were able to, you know, play some of the
other teams that are gonna be in the middle and
then go to the second round, I think you have

(18:11):
momentum at that point, which going into right now, going
into the All Star break, the Hawks have a little momentum.
Hopefully they would have beaten the Knicks again for the
third time this season, which would be awesome, and then
come into the you know, out of the break and
continue pushing forward. I will say this in regards to
Plint and not being able to trade him to another

(18:34):
team and get something for him because he is going
to be a free agent at the end of the year.
I wish they could have figured something out. I think
the next step would be a possible buyout. I just
don't agree with that, but it is what it is,
because if you're not gonna play him, you can't just
have him sitting there obviously, right And I can't remember

(18:56):
what you said in regards to him sitting so far,
but anything to that right now that he's been sitting
this long, because again, he hasn't played since January twenty seventh.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
Sports Radio ninety two point one FM Sports Visions.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Around atl Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
Well, at first Quin was listed on the injury reports
for backspasts, then that designation changed.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
To out for personal reasons.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
In the last two games, he's not been listed on
the injury report at all that has not played, So
I'm not knowing if there's something really going on with
him in his personal life or with his family, or
if he's upset because he wasn't traded but yet we tried.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
To trade him.

Speaker 4 (19:36):
But I do think that what you mentioned about a
buyout could possibly be where we're headed.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
I just can't figure out.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
Whether I hope he joins the Lekkers or doesn't join
the Lakers, because we have the Lakers first round picking
this upcoming draft unprotected, so I don't know if I
want him to not go there since they're lacking bigs
with the trade of Mark Williams being rescinded due to
Mark Grig'.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Spelling is physical or about wanting to.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Go to the Lakers hopefully, you know, miss enough layups
at the basket to help the Lakers lose some more games.
They've been playing pretty well right now, so can't I'm
not sure how I want that to go, sir, to
be honest.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
With you, I just had to throw the chuckle in there,
just because I just had to. So that is a
good point though that pick is again the position that
we're in right now that we don't have any picks.
Is this the other part of the trade down line
and what we could or couldn't do restraint wise, go

(20:38):
all out things.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Of that nature.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
But I still thought we had enough to where we
can fill in some of those blanks in regards to
the big and a point guard. But these moves that
we did make to get the three players that we
did get, I believe will help us short term and
then possibly long term depending on how the season goes.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I think the end of this season will kind.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Of dick take who we bring back obviously right to
a long term deal and things of that nature, and
then again the off season as far as free agency goes.
So because I think again it gots to go back
to you have Trey Young having another stellar yet really
one of the best seasons in point guard history for
the last twenty years plus. As far as what he's

(21:22):
doing right now, we've talked about that on the last show.
I just wanted to see us have a shot to
do something, because again, you can't win a championship without
being in the playoffs. And for the period of time
that we've not been in the playoffs as a Hawk squad.
With Trey Young as a Hawk, I harke him back
to the Dominique Wilkins years where the Hawks, out of

(21:43):
the eight of twelve seasons they were in the playoffs,
they never really had a chance because they never decided
to put anybody around Dominique Wilkins. I did a tweet
on Twitter into let atl and another interview of Dominique
Wilkins talking about Larry Bird, right and how Larry Bird
and this is his rookie season, and Dominique is like,

(22:03):
you know, he just wants to shake Larry Bird's hand,
and Larry's like, nah, you ain't shaking my hand. And
then you know, Larry Bird is hitting shots on Dominique,
and I don't know why they got you guarding.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Me homes right?

Speaker 3 (22:16):
And Tom is like he's mad now, and so Dominique
got He told one of his teammates, Hey, next time
I'm on the wing, give me the ball, and he
dumped it on Larry Bird. Larry Bird decided to jump
for some crazy reason he didn't know, I guess, and
he put him on the ground. And then Larry Bird
gets back up and say, Okay, I like you you you.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
You're a player.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
But they never put any other players around Dominique for
twelve seasons. And it's just frustrating that we could be
looking at that again, happening with another All Star player
and Trey Young, and I hope it. I hope it
doesn't end out like that. And I've talked about that
the myriad of times on another platform. So what else
do you think about the Hawks going into this second half?

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Now?

Speaker 2 (22:59):
There is the All Star our break, Jordan that you
can think.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Of that will put the Hawks in a position to
have the momentum to get into the playoffs for sure.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Well, first of all, to add to the story you
told there, Larry also told Dominique, I like you, rookie,
but I'm still scoring thirty on you, and he actually
did score thirty and they're over thirty at the game
as well, So that was actually absolutely a classic story.
One of the keys I think going forward for the
Hawks is going to be the play of Jekka A Coongoo.

(23:30):
I'm still not so long a Congoo long term is
the center. Sometimes he has these spectacular games where he has,
you know, twenty six points and twenty rebounds, but he
has too many games where he has a triple singles, sir,
where he doesn't get ten points or ten rebounds, and
that that that could be quite a problem you're talking

(23:50):
about long term though, when it comes to these trades.
I do think Terrence Man could potentially be a long
term piece.

Speaker 5 (23:57):
For sure.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
He has at least another year after this year. I
think two more years after this year left on his contract,
and I think, you know, he'll fit right in given
the team, you know, just another defensive presence. One other
note on the DeAndre Hunter trade. Apparently the Hawks tried
to get protected future first round draft pick from Cleveland

(24:21):
as part of the package.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
Cleveland said no.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
They also tried to get the twentieth pick in the
twenty twenty or NBA draft shooting guard Jalen Tyson and
Atlanta also said No, that's a little bit disappointing because
I would have liked to have seen the Hawks, you know,
get a future asset poor Hunter. But ultimately, I think,
you know, we did the right thing to go ahead

(24:44):
and get off of that contract. Unfortunately, Sir, I was
afraid that his story was gonna be a lot like
the story of Cunderella where the clock struck midnight and
you know, her coach turned into a pumpkin.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
I was afraid DeAndre Hunter was gonna turn into a
pumpkin or work get hurt. So I do think the
move was made.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
I guess the true hell of that trade will be
what happens in the off season. The latter has cleared
some you know, more face to maneuver in the offseason,
and so hopefully, you know, we can continue to get
another outstanding player to go with trade, because getting more
depth is great, getting more role players is great.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
Ultimately, in the NBA you need stars to winning this league.
We have one in trade.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
We have a budding star in Jail, and we have
a defensive star in Dyson. Would be nice to get
one more offensive star and with that being said, I
think a lot of this source of disappointment for the
fans from the trade deadline was the reports that we
were so close to land and brandon Ingram We along
with Toronto with the final.

Speaker 5 (25:49):
Two teams in for a bi trade.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
Unfortunately, Toronto stepped up and offered a pick that's.
