(01:56):
our co host for tonight's show, longtime Atlanta sports fan
and sports right who was always around the atl Jordan Jackson.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
What's going on? Man?

Speaker 4 (02:06):
What's going on? Chris? I'm glad to be on a
Round the atl Those Ports Visions ninety two point one FM,
just keeping a finger on the pulse of all that's
going on in Atlanta and Georgia's sports and as always,
there is a lot going on. So with that being said, sir,
let's talk about it well.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
First and foremost, we know it's free agency time, so
I gotta go ahead and play this real quick. The
draft ain't that far away, is it? But right now
is NFL free agency, So let's talk about it. So
right now, Brady jaredt we have to talk about him.

(02:45):
He is one of the last players from the Super
Bowl team from a few years ago. He was released recently.
He did a lot for the city, He did a
lot for the team. He is now a Chicago Bear.
Drew Dohman also a Chicago Bear. Ritchie Grett went to
San Francisco. What if the Falcons done so far well?
We kept Jake Matthews for extra two years, We brought

(03:08):
back Mike Hues. We did go out and sign linebacker
Devine Diablo and edge rusher from the forty nine ers
LETTERD floor. He had sixty six sacks since twenty sixteen,
eight and a half last year. However, is that enough?
Are we making enough moves to become a contender again?

(03:29):
And a lot of people are very upset right now
because it doesn't seem like the Falcons are doing anything.
In fact, they're so upset.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
You don't know the power of the dark side.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
All of a sudden, there's sounding like Darth Vader. That's
kind of scary there. So, Jordan, what has to happen
for the Atlanta Falcons to start making some moves to
actually affect what happens on the field every year.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Well, first of all, we just got to continue to
add talent to the defensive side of the ball, Chris,
and especially the past rush. And now the side of that,
little Floyd made sense. He's from Georgia. He's a Georgia Bulldog.
He also has a relationship with Rahem Mars, having played
under Mars with the Rams in Los Angeles. He was

(04:17):
on the twenty twenty one Super Bowl team in fact,
and so that signing, while a good veteran signing to
help mentor guys like Honold Hippy Candy and Braylen Trice,
him alone, is not enough to fix this past rush.
That being said, I'd like to see us go out
and make a trade for Trade Hendrickson of the Cincinnati

(04:37):
Bengals all through defensive end this past season, seventeen and
a half sacks each of the last two years. Now,
if you're able to make the trade, you are gonna
have to pay a large amount of money. But that's okay.
Because then the fast count tracks can be kind of
moved around and structured where you would take a big
cap hit on him this year, and then his bigger

(05:00):
happen numbers could go up the following year once we
get a certain backup quarterback off of our books.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Sir, which we hope, we hope happens soon.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
But you know, you know how that goes sometimes to Jordan,
I mean, let me see if I can find that
one real quick, because I have to play this one.
Just because you mentioned that that particular quarterback. I don't
know if I can find it. Now here we go.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Congratulations, you played yourself.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
We might feel this for a long time unless we
are able to pull that off. So right now, we
don't have a lot of people on the board anymore.
I see von Miller is still out there as a
possible pass rusher. There's not a lot of defensive tackles.
So again, back to Jordan, you know, it looks like
trade is gonna be the only way to get some
pressure on the quarterback, hopefully, unless we can do something

(05:51):
with the backup quarterback and get him off the books
and we'll see what can happen. So that being said,
let's go ahead and translate over to our Atlanta Hawks
are beloved Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta. Now, if you've been
listening to around the atl on Sports Vision's ninety two
to one FLM for the last seven weeks, you know
at the very start I mentioned that on October second
of last year, I predict that the Atlanta Hawks would

(06:14):
finish sixth in the Eastern Conference. That was before all
the injuries at the beginning of the year. The middle
of the year, the trade deadline happened, and everything we
got a brand new team almost right now right, and
it didn't look like it could happen until the last
few weeks have passed. The Hawks are now in the
midst of a three game win streat and as the
recording of this show, they are seventh in the East Okay,

(06:37):
leading the division by one and a half games, and
they are five games out of fifth out of six.
That is five and a half out of fifth and
six out of fourth. But believe it or not crazy
right now, no matter how this regular season ends, this
team is much better than last year's team. Okay, Zach
our rookie is playing like the rookie of the year.

(06:57):
Dyson is playing at an ultimate level right now. But
Cargo has been very consistent. The bench with the Yane,
Carris and Man have stepped in and stepped up. In
this three game win streak, they beat the Pacers back
to back in Philly without Trey So, Jordan, how do
you feel about the Hawks and how they can finish
this season up?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I feel that the Hawks have a great chance to
secure the seventh spot, which would be the home game
to start off the play in tournament. They have now
opened up a one and a half game league on
both Orlando and Miami, who are in eighth and ninth place.
I know you've been to the sixth point, Chris. I
just think it's gonna be too much of an obstacle

(07:40):
to overcome. To get to the sixth by five and
a half games back with seventeen games to play, it's
quite a bit. It's gonna take a catastrophic losing streak
by one of the three teams directly above us, whether
that be Milwaukee, Indiana or Detroit and along winter streak
where the Hawks get hot of the fiscreet in order

(08:01):
to for us to get to the sixties. But you know, look,
at least with the seventh seed, we would have a
home game. For some reason, we didn't win said home game,
we would have another home game with a chance to
grab the eight seed and advance on to the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
So the Pacers are five and five in their last ten.
The Bucks are on a current three game losing streak themselves.
The Pissons have one too in a row. I think
seventeen games is a little bit of a wigger room.
I think again, the pressure is much more on everybody
above the Hawks than vice versa, I think, so. I
think they do have a chance to maybe make some

(08:39):
moves there, especially with how they're winning some of these games.
They're able to prevent some of the points in the paint.
Sometimes they're hitting some big shots at the same time
as well. Of course, Trey Young has been distributing the
ball at at an all star superstar level obviously, And
I think they have an opportunity to get to the playoff.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Now, let's say they do make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Let's first of all, let's say they whether or not
they make the play in and or the sixth seed,
and move on.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
They make the.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Playoffs, Jordan will making the playoffs make a difference in
regards to their franchise going forward, in regards to being
able to get some more players into the organization or
make a trade here, or you know, they can they
make better decisions on the draft side of things to
where the next five to ten years we can actually

(09:31):
be a contender and not a pretender.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
What do you think, Sports Radio not at.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Your point one FM Sports Visions, thank you for listening
to your folks on the round at ATM. First of all,
I do want to say congratulations to Trey Young for
being named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, led the
Halls to that three and one record during the week
and average twenty five points and thirteen assists for those
four games that he played in. As far as winning

(09:59):
go making the playoffs and winning always matters, Chris, one
of the biggest things that would do is give Zachary
Reached Shade or a rookie number one overall draft pick
his first to taste the playoff action. But he can
get a real feel for how much more physical playoffs
he is, how much more for of a half court
game the playoffs can be.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
At times That will help him.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
A lot down to.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Down the long in the long run.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
But that being said, you know, it's shame that Jayalen
Johnson isn't here to get even more experienced as well.
But to have this group just play together and to
have a chance to make adjustin for a seven game
series but definitely help. It would also help in terms
of bringing in future players and free agency. Now, don't
I don't think the holls is gonna have a whole
bunch of money to play with as far as free

(10:48):
agency goes, but it should the team decide to actually
use their mid level exception, you have a better chance
at getting you know, some real quality vets with that
mid level reception if they do as a playoff team,
just closer to be able to take that step from
a playoff team to a continuity.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
And I believe that this is the point of no
return for the Hawks really in regards to saying we're
actually gonna build a winning team. You know, we need
that winning attitude back because we had it four years ago,
because we were two games away from getting to the
finals and for some reason the organization said, well let's
go backwards now for all this time when you have

(11:28):
a lot of talent that has come through the organization.
So I'm hoping that we can make the playoffs, make
a dent in the playoffs. Anything can happen once you
make the playoffs. Nothing can happen if you don't make
the playoffs, and that's pretty obvious, right. So as we
get ready to transition into the second half of our show,
everyone make sure you subscribe to the i INT and
Worldwide Radio YouTube channel because you get to see more

(11:49):
of Around the atl to follow up on more Falcons

all of those who took home to crown this year.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
And to finish up, the last high school for the year,
Hardaway High in Columbus, Georgia have won their first state championship.
They beat Murray County and Macon, Georgia forty seven or
thirty four. Congrats to coach Kelly Ellison for a well
coached season. And also shout out to coach Mills, who
actually know who he is, I've met him before, who
was named Athletic Director of the Year. So tremendous achievement

(17:21):
for all of these high schools. Let me go ahead
and give y'all a little bit of an applause. I
gotta do this for y'all. Great job for all the
young men and women Columbus Georgia, Georgia Choo championship. You

(17:41):
really really are excited about y'all going into next year.
But guess what, we still got a lot more high
school for the year, so we'll come back to y'all
a little bit later. Let's get into some college basketball now, Jordan,
go ahead and break us up in regards to the HBCUs.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
For Georgia.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
Yes, sir, in the SNIAC Tournament, which is where all
of our Georgia h all of our Georgia HBCUs are
in that particular conference. In the quarterfinals, Tuskegee beat off
of the State seventy to sixty eight. Central State ended
Morehouse the season seventy seven to seventy, Savannah State in

(18:19):
sixty three miles sixty one, and Clark seventy seven Kentucky
State seventy two. In the semifinals, Savannah State Kevin advancing,
beating Central State fifty three to forty eight, and Tuskegee
ended Clark season with a sixty eight forty six win.
Savannah State did take home the crown sixty seven to

(18:41):
sixty six, so we did have a Georgia AHENBCU win
the championship, and Day King of Savannah State was the
tournament's most valuable player. He was joined on the All
Tournament team by aj Plain and Jabate led the two
of his teammates.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
All right, the Bulldogs Uga. They finished their regular season
with the four game winning streak. They beat Vanderbilt seventy
nine to sixty eight. Really really really happy how they
finish up the season. The SEC tournament is next.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Up for them.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
I believe they play Oklahoma off the top of my head.
Then we got selection Sunday, So right now it looks
like I'm not I hate they use the word shooing.
I think they're in, you know, but that's just me.
I think they're I think they're in, So definitely excited
for the tournament coming up. So congrats to UGA. Columbia
State University. The men's team, now they were delta blow

(19:34):
as they losing their conference tournament to usc Buford in
a close one ninety one eighty seven. They finished the
season twenty six and four, So right now they're gonna
be waiting for their selection Sunday to see where they
stand in regards to their Division two basketball championship run.
That's gonna start on March fifteenth. By the way, the ladies,
they earned an at large bid for their Southeastern tournament

(19:55):
as the fifth seed. They have a twenty and eight record,
and they're gonna be going for their fourth championship, believe
it or not. So for both the girls and guys.
Columbus State University team, good luck. Hopefully y'all bring that
championship home. Let's go ahead and merge into some more
Atlanta sports. The Atlanta Vibe our volleyball team. Now, they

(20:16):
were fresh off of three game losing streak unfortunately, but
since then they've won two in a row. First against
the Vegas Thrill at home at Gas South Arena three
to two. Last year's MVP Lea Edmund had twenty seven
points in two aces and Morgan Hints chipped in with
eighteen digs and five assists. Then they won against the
Indie Ignite three to one. Pee a Timber at thirty

(20:40):
one attacks, seven killed seven, six digs and two assists
for that win. Now, remember this is a professional volleyball team,
y'all there repping Atlanta. Have you been to watch them
play yet at Gas South?

Speaker 3 (20:52):
You need to do that.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
So your next chance is March fifteenth against the San
Diego Mojo. Go support them Ladiators. Guess who where they play?
Also Gas South Arena. They're a pro hockey team in
Atlanta if you didn't know, They recently lost their most
recent game to the Toledo Walet five to two. Carson
Diamoni and Randy Hernandez had to had a goal apiece. Actually,

(21:17):
make sure you go support them too, guess what. They
next played March fourteenth against the South Carolina Steamrays at
seven point thirty. So make sure you let them know
around the atl centur to go watch that. Jordan, we
have another Atlanta team to talk about. They kicked the
ball instead of sliding around.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Who is that?

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Oh, yes, sir, that would be the Atlanta United Football
Club Atlanta United FC. Unfortunately, their last match ended in
a zero zero draw against.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
The New York Red Bulls.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
I guess the key that that game was Atlanta had
six shots on goal and New York zero, But unfortunately
Atlanta could not convert any of those shots on goal
and to get and the match did in the the
drug Christmas.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
That's messed up.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
Let's see College Park College Park Skyhawks. They're always doing
a little something there in the Airlanta. We always get
to see some of the players get to the Atlanta
Hawks as well. So what have they been doing lately, Jordan.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Well, they've actually turned around and had a bus better
week this week than they had the previous week. They
had a two game set against the nine oh five Raptors.
They won the first game of that set one seventeen.
Jacob Topping led the Skyhawks with twenty seven points. Nicolo Durasich,
our second round paper from last year, had six points

(22:39):
and two assists.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Then they also took the second.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
Game against the nine to five Raptors one thirty four
to one twenty seven. Devon Harris led to the Skyhawks
with thirty five points. Derrisich had a bounce back game
with twenty four points, eight assists and five rebounds on
nine to seventeen shooting, and Jacob Topping had sixteen points
and twelve rebounds in that particular ball game. They also

(23:07):
had a third game this past week to beating the
Delaware Blue Coats one twenty four to one twenty so,
just like the Atlanta Hawks, the Cottage Parties golfs all
of three game winning streak. Jacob Topping again led the
Skyhawks with thirty two points in that game. Dwight Murray
Junior had seventeen points and seventeen assists, which is two turnovers,

(23:32):
which is quite impressive. U n Cola dura Sis had
fifteen points, seven rebounds and three assists, and day Kawhan Ploten,
who be seen up with the big club a little bit,
had just seven points on one of five shooting from
three these street three straight wins get up the Skyhawks
a fifteen and eleventh record that is good for six

(23:55):
in the Eastern Division.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Chris, before we end, I might ask you to follow
up on Jacob Topping and talk about him just a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
So keep that in mind. Let's talk Columbus Storm.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Back in Columbus, Georgia, coach Brad has the guys playing
pretty hard early in the season. Remember they are the
defending APDFL champions from a year ago. But this time, however,
they did take a loss to the seat Seaville Cheeze
thirty one to seven. Now, on the defensive side, you
got de Terrian Davis who had five tackles, four tackles

(24:28):
for a loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery, so
he was doing what he could. On special teams, he
had Kobe Collins had three returns for seventy yards twenty
three yards per average. And also on the offense, he
had Cordell Johnson who stood out with twenty carries for
one hundred and eight yards had a touchdown. He also
had three catches for seventeen yards. But again they did lose,

(24:49):
so they dropped the two and one on the season.
Their next home game will be March fifteenth at Garrett
Harrison Stadium against the murph Free Murphy's Borough Tar Hills,
So make sure you go and buy your tickets and
make sure you support them. The Columbus River Dragons they
most recently split their two games with the Carolina Thunderbirds
at Winston Salem. The first game they won seven to

(25:10):
six Kyl Moore. Kyl Moore had a goal and three assists.
Ryan Hunter had two goals, but in the second game
they lost four to one. Now interesting enough, I do
want to mention this. They have a Legends Night coming
up on March fifteenth.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (25:27):
That's where players from both the Columbus Countain Mouse and
the River Dragons will be a attendance and the compon.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Mouse of a lot of fans.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Remember they were the team from back in the day
in Columbus and they actually have a couple of championships.
So if you want to meet some of the old guys,
make sure you show up on March fifteenth before the game.
They will be there. Last, but not least, the Columbus Lions,
the Arena League football team here in Columbus. They just
destroyed and I gotta say this. I had to look

(25:56):
at it Trice to make sure I was right. They
destroyed Peach eighty five to nothing.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
You heard right.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
So remember the Lions are the defending league champions too
from a year ago as well. They play at the
Columbus Civic Center and their next game is March twenty first,
so make sure you go and support them as well.
It's a great football team to watch. I've been to
a couple of their games. Jordan, we got a few minutes.
Can you tell us a little bit about Jacob Tomping
and how do you think he can? Do you think

(26:25):
he has a chance to make the team at a
certain point?

Speaker 3 (26:28):
What do you think?

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Well, I mean, I guess he always has a chance.
What happened was center for Dominique Barlow was given an
NBA contract basically upgraded from a two way contract tour
standard NBA contract, So that left the Hawks with an
open two way contract spot and they signed Jacob Topping

(26:53):
to build that spot. Jacob Topping is the brother of
Indiana Pacers board Opie Topping. He was with the New
York Knicks before being waived in Atlanta signing him and.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
He didn't played a.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Lot with the New York Knicks, but with their G
League affiliate, he was averaging twenty five point two point
eight point three rebounds, four point.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
One assists, a little bit under a block and under
a steal per game.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
So, like I said, undrafted guy out of Kentucky, but
he has a chance, I think, you know, especially with
what we've seen out of him so far at college
bar to you know, maybe work his way up. He
should definitely be on the team to get an invite
in the training camp next off season and that give
him a real chance to compete head to head with

(27:44):
the guys on the big club.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
I just had to ask us because of the production
he's given us so far. I mean, you know, every
little bit counts right now at this point of the season.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
So also has he also has goodn't lift being six
foot nine as well. You know, we could always use
those forwards that can play that power forward, maybe a
little small forward as well.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
That's something that we can always use with the eleven
homes exactly. Well, again, guys, we have fun tonight on
