Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, welcome back to the conversation. Let's do some pod crashing.
Episode number three ninety is with actor Winemaker and internet
sensation Kyle mcgloughlin from the podcast what are We even doing?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I am good? How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Very excited to share a conversation with you? Because I
want to officially welcome you to the world of podcasting.
It's it's not just an outlet for creative people, but
you're I'm sure you're seeing that it is a lifestyle.
It's consuming a lot of time and my goodness sakes,
but it's fun to do.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
You summed it up perfectly.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
And the way that you're going at this, I mean,
first of all, I think it's amazing that you're talking
with people about their creativity and everything that they do
on that level, because I still believe that one of
the misunderstood conversations or languages is the art that we
have inside us.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
We don't know how to talk about it.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
But a show like yours opens up that door.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well, that's very that's a really nice approach, and that's
that's exactly how I feel. I'm not interested in sort
of gossip news or you know, asking questions or probing
into different directions that are uncomfortable. This is really about
sitting down, bringing my creative self, them bringing their creative
selves and having a conversation about it and sort of
meeting and what's different, you know, what's different over thirty years,
over forty years between us, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
And it's funny enough, there's a lot of similarities.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
I love the way that you're saying conversation because that
is so valuable and so important because that's the difference
between talking to someone and talking at someone.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, and I don't know how to talk at someone.
Earlier on I learned I just sort of sat down.
I've been I've been on talk shows where that's happened,
you know what I mean. And I'm like, this isn't
really a conversation, is it. But what my intention was
to make first of all, the conversation with people at ease.
You know, if you're really curious about them and you're
really asking questions and you really want to know. People
seem to be like, all right, I'm willing to share

(01:42):
because I'm sharing stuff as well, and I think that's
where you can get to the meat of thing, core
of things, you know what I mean. And that's what's
really important to me is to get to that place
so I understand them better.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Isn't that because I mean as creative people, I mean,
we all get in our circles that are very tight,
but we really don't have those conversations because the competition
is so high. But now with a podcast like yours,
what are we even doing? It opens up that door
for you could be my biggest competitor. You still have
something that I need to hear and I can learn
from you.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
It's a it's an amazing thing.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
And I was just I've got a series that's just
dropping next week called The Lowdown, and I work with
Ethan Hawk, and I've worked with Ethan over the.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Years, and he is one of those actors.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I mean, he's very successful, very smart, very talented, and
we talk about our process and we share and the
same thing happens when we're in front of the camera.
It's like we're helping each other out. It's like suggesting
to each other ideas, really trying to put a scene
together that makes sense where.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Both of our characters are supported. There's no ego.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
It's just as kind of working together to make something better,
and that ultimately is what my experience most of the time,
my experience in film and televisions, you're working with people
I do exactly what you do, and you know that
if you're good, then they're going to be good, and
if they're good, you're going to be good. So it's
kind of a it's a meeting of the mind as
a mutual approach to something that's really.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Important conversation, like you said, I mean, and that to
me is where it all begins because if you go
in there with the physical act of learning how to listen,
then you're able to activate inside that conversation.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, and questions just come.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
You know. It's like there's no there's no map that
we'm following. We're kind of all over the place, depending
on you know, what comes back. And that's the you know,
that's the best acting is like when you say something
and you don't know how the other person's going to
put it back at you, you know what I mean,
and then that changes how you respond to them, and
back and forth and back and forth, and pretty soon
hopefully you have an interesting scene together.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
So please do not move. There's more with actor Kyle
McLaughlin coming up next. The name of his podcast what
are we even doing. Actor Kyle McLaughlin, we got to
talk about something we in reality, we come from the
same region of the country. I'm from Billings, Montana. You
you're you're from Yakama. We used to go to Yakama
all the time to get peaches. I mean we would

(03:50):
fill up that truck with peaches and take them home
to can them.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I love that to can them. That's what we used
to do when I was a kid. My grandparents come up. Yeah,
they lived down in Portland area and can They would
come over for the peaches exactly. And Cherry's We did
that as well in pairs because there's an egg it's
an egg region, right, And we would go to the
canning places down in the Lower Valley. I go with
my grandmother and my mom and we would spend and
we were we were the labor. I have two younger brothers,

(04:14):
and we were the labor, blanching the peaches, getting them,
coring them. I mean, this sounds funny. We sound like
we've had a very similar upbringing. That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Oh yeah, and then wasn't Earl what was it? Earl
Anthony the professional bowler, also from Yakama. I mean It's like, man,
I came from the coolest place on the planet.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
I don't know, it's getting cooler. Oh, I remember that name,
Earl Anthony. That's funny. We have Yeah, we have some
of our people that are well, I know the mayor brothers,
Phil and Steve Mayer from the my area actually from
that cheese. But we have a few people that have
come from Yakama exactly. Oh gosh, the names want to

(04:52):
run out of my head.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
But yeah, So now in putting the podcast together, what
what is the the daily discipline for you? I mean,
there's got to be show prep because I mean I mean,
even though you may not be reading word for word,
what's your show prep is? You still have to go
in there knowing a process.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, I do, so I do.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
I do my research, and sometimes I know some more
about some people and less about others. So I'm sort
of blown up on what they've done, who they are.
But I definitely I follow a line of what interests me.
So you know, I take a particular guest and and
I'll dig in. And I had Dylan O'Brien on, and

(05:31):
he had done a movie called The Outfit with Mark
Ryland's which I really really loved and he said, and
I brought it up, and he said, oh my god,
you're the one of one of ten people that saw
the movie.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Not many people saw, but I really enjoyed it. I
really loved that. I thought it was beautiful, and I
thought his performance was great. Stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
You know, I'll go down a thread that interests me
and and and that usually you know, leads to a
kind of a cool conversation with different people.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, but don't you love those moments. So when you
make a connection that even though it's in your notes,
they already brought it up in the conversation you're going
I was paying attention during that show prep time.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Exactly right, Like it does make a difference.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Yeah, It's funny how people they do respond and they
do appreciate a little bit of research. Now I don't
go in cold by any means, but at the same time,
it's like this things that that there's other things that
I could talk about, but there are certain things that
are just like really speak to me, and I'll follow
those follow those threads, and it really it pays off
nicely and just really wonderful conversation and learning more about

(06:30):
someone that I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Absolutely where can people go to find out more about
everything that you're doing, because you have got to be
one of the most active actors I've ever experienced.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
God, thank you. Well. The podcast is where you get
your podcasts. iHeartRadio. Of course, we dropped today and so
you can find it. What are we even doing?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
And and otherwise I've yeah, I've got a couple of
things that are happening.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Fall Out will be out at the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Overcompensating has been picked up for a second season, so
we'll start filming that in February, and Lowdown with Ethan
Hawk drops next week next Tuesday on Hulu FX and Hulu.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
So got a few things happening.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Well, you've got to come back to this show anytime
in the future. The door is always going to be
open for you.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Kyle, Eryl, thank you, I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (07:14):

the world of podcasting.
