Speaker 1 (00:00):
Missed Opportunity. I love sharing conversations. Hosting them requires a
lot of show prep. My podcast platform features thousands of
different guests. What you don't have access to are my
missed opportunities. The show prep was one hundred percent completed.
The conversation didn't happen. I keep all of my notes,
and the reason why is because I believe that paths
(00:21):
will one day cross again. Let me explain missed opportunity.
It's my questions and statements without their answers. I'm leaving
open enough space at the end of each question hoping
they'll download the talk and insert their answers. Missed opportunity
is a lost piece of history, like that of a
message in a bottle. It's been tossed out to see
(00:42):
I hope to locate a destination. This week, we're putting
focus on my missed Opportunity with singer songwriter Dave Mustaine
from Megadeath. Okay, Dave Mustaine from Megadeath not just a
legendary rocker, but a graphic novelist. Dave's goal was to
promote the thirty fifth anniversary of the album and with
it would be a novel as well. It was dubbed
(01:05):
the anniversary collection Warheads and Foreheads. The rocker had teamed
up with some of the biggest names in comic book
publishing heavy Metal to create the ultimate fan experience with
a three hundred and fifty page anthology of comic stories
inspired by the songs of this one particular album. The
project was carefully curated by Dave and Heavy Metal. Dave
(01:28):
was extremely excited about electrifying fans around the entire planet.
The CEO of Heavy Metal was totally charged up about
this collaboration with Dave, saying Megadeath has always been one
of his all time favorite bands. The box set in
twenty nineteen was leather bound with clear vinyl albums. The
(01:50):
invitation to spend time with Dave Mustaine was received in
March of twenty nineteen. I was scheduled for a conversation.
How we got to be a six minute window seemed
to be way too good to be true. All of
the paperwork was in and the phone not zoom because
zoom conversations weren't happening in twenty nineteen. Remember we didn't
(02:12):
start doing that until the COVID lockdown. The phone was
ready to go. The twenty seventh arrived and there was
no Dave Mustaine. It was a missed opportunity coming up next.
I still have my notes and questions from March twenty seventh,
two thousand nineteen. Hey, thanks for coming back to Missed
(02:36):
Opportunity this week. It's my missed opportunity with Dave Mustaine
from Megadeath Death by Design. You've collaborated with brilliant creative
minds on this project, the writers invited to bring these
stories to life. What was it like to sit down
with them and have this graphic novel all of a
(02:57):
sudden become an actuality rather than something that sits inside
the theater of your mind? In creating the book, where
did your imagination and heart go? Did it inspire a
soundtrack all its own? People are going to want this art.
Is it going to be in a gallery? Can we
purchase it somewhere in a gallery? They're going to want
(03:18):
this art. The thirty fifth anniversary of Megadeth. There's never
been a celebration like this. The anthology has three hundred
and fifty pages of comic stories. There has to be
a way to turn this into animation, something that is
going to move with those pictures do you still ask
(03:41):
what's next? Or does everything just naturally fall into place?
The attitude of your music has always been fast punk
as well as well focused. The first demo three songs.
In today's digital world, would you utilize the availability? Final question?
(04:01):
The creation of Megadeath gave birth to a new genre.
What does it like to know it's still alive in
this moment of now missed opportunity? It is a lost
piece of history. You now know my questions, so let's
locate the reactions. The door is always going to be open.
If you are or no Dave Mustaine of Megadeath, please
