Speaker 1 (00:00):
I like asking questions, and the reason why is because
the fund begins when you start researching for answers such
as why are there two sides of the fence when
it comes to aging? It's getting old versus trying all
you can to stay young? Who's winning this? My name
is Errow. I'm a daily writer, a silent wolf. I
stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen, study,

(00:22):
then activate. I call it the daily mess, a chronological
walk through an everyday world. Yeah, it's my morning pages.
As receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend
to throw it to the side because we think we're
going to deal with it later on. Well, when a
subject arrives inside of me, I know it's time to
dig in. It's still keeping that daily journal, but by

(00:43):
doing the research, the picture becomes clearer. This is the
daily mess. What is it about getting older? People can
be troubled by it, or they can find it amazing
and they find their peace and gratitude. Why is there
such a huge valley between being middle age and beyond
and staying healthy and very young. The deep root to

(01:04):
this observation is based on how we personally perceive aging
and the value of life. Why do some people like
getting older? Wisdom and perspective. I mean, seriously, how much
of what you know can actually be learned in a book?
Number two, Older adults feel less pressure and more freedom,
the physical act of feeling less concerned about what other

(01:27):
people think of you. Number three legacy and its meaning
those who take pride in what they have accomplished, be
it family, career, creative work, and or contributions. And number
four a big one gratitude. When it really boils down
to truth. Wherever you are on the age list, you

(01:50):
need to let your inner coren know that it's outlived
so many challenges. Gratitude is knowing how lucky you should
feel forgetting the opportunity to be in this moment of
right now, because it can all go away at the
drop of a hat. Hey, coming up next, we've just
seen the positive sides of getting older. What are the

(02:13):
negative sides? What's keeping people not wanting to grow into
those older shoes? Hey, thanks for coming back to the
daily mess. Now that we've heard why people are happy
about getting older, that's not always the case for all
who are involved when it comes to traveling through life.
I'm sixty three years old. I know a lot of

(02:34):
aging naysayers. They want nothing to do with reaching those
later chapters in the Book of life. Why is that
a fear of decline? Physical aging invites health issues, pain,
and limitations. Number two This is a big one. I've
had to deal with it, and I've learned to kind

(02:54):
of walk with it, seeking inner peace. Why do people
dislike getting older? Loss of identity? Most cultures value youth.
The elders feel lost and unimportant. Number three, unfinished dreams,
that dull ache of running out of time to get

(03:16):
stuff done. And number four it is so natural and
filled with a lot of fear mortality. There are many
people who see aging as a daily reminder of death.
This in itself will and does trigger resistance. It's all
about attitude, culture, and your personal experience. The battle between

(03:41):
accepting aging versus staying young. Really, just be yourself. I'm
ryl and that's the daily mess.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
