Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to arawon the air. I'm your host Alex Barton,
and in today's episode, we'll talk about how Stimo men's
basketball made program history Thursday with an eighty eight sixty
seven win over Western Illinois, the RedHawks eighth straight win.
Then Niva would a check, will dive into a new
dining spot in downtown Cape Girardo, and finally, ri Ortz
reports on how Semo's sykesed in regional campus helps students

(00:23):
stay close to home while earning their degrees. Let's get started.
Simo men's basketball has made program history, setting a new
all time regular season win streak record for themselves. Head
coach Brad Korn reflects on how his team has improved.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
The thing I like the most is when I watch
Rob play the growth that he's had in that position.
The point guard position in the center position are the
two hardest to recruit and get a good player at.
But then they are also the two hardest positions to
learn because so much has asked of you, and so
I think a year ago Rob was asked to score
on a bad team, and then now learning how to
assist and score on a good team and defen and

(00:58):
block out and do all of the thing and really
understand and learn the game at a different level.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
The player's growth has been crucial to the team's success,
with coach Korn noting how they've not only improved individually,
but have also strengthened their team chemistry.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
They're a competitive group, and again they have a high
basketball IQ. They have a high basketball maturity. So what
I mean by that is we don't have to spend
a ton of time on the court walking through thirteen
players or certain offensive things. I can verbalize some things
to them and we can get it executed.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
As the team comes together, their chemistry on the court
is just as strong as off the court. The team's
ability to move the ball and trust one another is
evident in their performance, highlighted by low turnovers and smart
decision making. As the team heads of their final stretch
of the season, Coach Korn and the team have their
sights on a bigger goal, but for now, they're taking
it one game at a time.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
The nice game is the biggest game because it's a
nice game. These games won't have any more or less
weight because it's linden Wood or Siue or Little Rockets.
A wins and win and losses a.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Loss as they push toward the end of the regular season.
Their success is a testament to the growth of both
their individual players and their collective team chemistry. Now, we
turned to a story for our food lovers, where Niva
wooded Check covers the newest restaurant making waves with Mac
and Cheese.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Ronnie's Macbar is now open in downtown Cape Girardo, bringing
a unique twist to the city's food scene. Owner and
general manager Grace Keene says she discovered the franchise through
TikTok and decided to bring it to Cape.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
We moved to Dexter after we graduated from CIMO, and
we actually kind of pitched Dexter first and they were like, no,
Dexter's too small, And then we thought about downtown Cape
and it just made sense.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
The Mac and Cheese Bar concept started in Wico, Texas,
where the original owners went viral on TikTok for their
early struggles. Keene says they took customer feedback, improved their
business model, and started franchising. Now, their online presence is
a key part of their marketing strategy.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
They have like I think, over one point five million
subscribers They're huge on YouTube, huge on TikTok, huge on Instagram.
I guess them are just trying to promote their business
when they first opened, but as soon as they went viral,
they just kept going and found that marketing was definitely
where they were at. And once they got all of
that feedback, they just continued and ran with it and
things went really well.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Roney's Macbar offers customizable mac and cheese and grilled cheese options,
with the possibility of future menu expansions. Keane says they
planned to engage with SEMO students through tailgates, pop ups,
and catering events. The restaurant's grand opening is set for
March first, with a drive through launching later in the month.
For Air on the Air, I'm Neva with.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
A check Now, we turn to Ari Ortiz, who reports
on Simo's psychs in Regional Campus and how it provides
students with an affordable, close to home college experience.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
For many students, going to college means packing their bags
and leaving home, but for some in Southeast Missouri, there's
another option. Southeast Missouri State University's sikes in Regional Campus
with small class sizes, lower tuition and access to the
same resources as main campus students. Sykeston offers students a

(03:54):
chance to pursue their degree while staying close to home.
Shan Howard, the Region campus directors, says, students quickly find
a sense of community here.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
So students usually commute to our campus. They do have
some benefits such as not needing parking passes, but they
also benefit if they want to go to Kpe they
can take advantage of Cape resources as well, and then
there's a lot of virtual resources they have access to,
like tutoring, the library and.

Speaker 7 (04:24):
Things like that.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
Many students start their college journey in Sison before transitioning
to Simo's main campus in Cape. Girardo Shelby Mayeb, a
former six and student, says the regional campus helped her
ease into college life.

Speaker 7 (04:39):
I think there is something special about the Sixon SEMO campus.
It does have a little bit, like I said, the
family type of aspect. It just feels a little homeier,
like there's not as many of us in the Also,
with everything being in the same building, I feel like
we get a lot more friendships between majors.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
For many, affordability is a major factor. Tuition at Sychson
is two hundred and fourteen dollars and ninety six cents
per credit hour, compared to three hundred and thirty dollars
and nine cents at main campus. Students can also take
advantage of Missouri's A Plus Scholarship, which helps cover their
tuition costs. For students who want a strong start to

(05:19):
their college education without leaving home, Simo's sychsent Regional Campus
offers them a stepping stone for Southeast Arrow. I'm Ari Ortis.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
That's it for this episode of ARA one the Air.
