A new musician, well not quitenew, but to some of you
he may be new. Definitely tome he's new. But oh my gosh,
I'm gonna after we're done, I'mgonna roll a couple of cuts from

(23:22):
this artist and you're gonna see whywe have him on. And you need
to be listening to it stuff. You need to be streaming it. You
need to be wherever mister Ahmad McCowanis doing his thing. Mister Ahmad McCowan,
how are you today? I amfantastic. Thanks for having me,
Oh our pleasure. First off, from from the door, you I couldn't

(23:48):
help it. But when I sawyour photo, I I'm like, he
looks just like my cousin Nikia,And I'm sure. And there are some
people that you know, when Igo place, they swear down I looked
like a relative of theirs, evento where there was a point where one
lady even thought I was her daughter. I was in my cars had my
Texas place at that time, wasin Texas. Now I'm in Illinois.

(24:12):
You know, at that time he'sliving in Dallas. Now'm in Chicago.
But anyway, so she literally cameup to my car and was knocking on
my window, and as I rolledit down, she was saying, oh,
so you wasn't gonna let me knowyou in town? How low you
get it down? I was like, I just got in town. I
was like, I don't know you, ma'am. She was like, oh,
wait a minute. Now, she'slike, oh, you ain't my

(24:32):
daughter. I'm sorry, Dode, your kids offer from people that you look
just like. I'm talking about setan image. The only difference between you
and my cousin Nikia is the factthat he's about ten years older than you,
and that's it. But you lookedjust like Nikia looked when he was
like around in his early thirties. You can get that office, Well,

(24:56):
I do get I do get acelebrity. You look a like the one
I used to get all the time, especially back when I had her.
I used to get jillil White fromFamily Matters. Oh, yes, I
used to get that all the time. I'll never forget this. I remember
I was in line at the cafeteria, and the cafeteria lady said, do

(25:18):
you know what you look like?I said, who do I look like?
Not Steve uncle, but the guythat he turned into when he stepped
into that machine. I'm like stepodd step fun. But now that I'm
bald, I don't get it.I don't get it that much. That
is too fun. But yes,you are as cute as can be.

(25:41):
But and then and that leads tonaturally the next question. You know people
want to know some people you knowwant to know. You know whether people
are single, and if a personis married has kids. Is there anything
that you'd like to share with thelists about your personal life or family life.

(26:03):
Well, I am single, Idon't have any children. What I
like to say to people is Iam married to my purpose, meaning I'm
just focused on building myself and makingsure that I'm in a right space mentally
and spiritually, because I believe thatas you continue to grow and build yourself,
you're going to attract the right personand the right people into your life.

(26:26):
Yes, yes, yes, Andfor those of us who are wise
from life, we know that thatmeans prime specimen and so yes, and
that's what everybody should be seeking tobe is their very best. But you
know that takes a lot of introspection, and a lot of people, we
find are not willing to take thattime to number one, be with themselves.

(26:48):
Number two, look within themselves andwork on themselves. And I know,
of course, with your being acreative person that not only its introspection
something that's a value to you,but you've been able to as you go
within find messages that not only helpyou, but can help others. Then

(27:10):
you're able to put it in thispoetic form and apply it to the melodies
and the rhythms to it and makeit music. And you even play instruments
if I'm not mistaken. Tell meabout how you first got started or first
realized that you were not only amusic lover but a creator. Of music.

(27:34):
Okay, Well, I come froma musical family on my father's side.
My father sings, plays the keyboard, the saxophone. Also have some
uncles who played multiple instruments as well. My grandmother, God rest her soul,
she sang, so music's naturally inme. As a toddler, I
would quote song lyrics and I wouldwatch music videos. I wasn't like most

(27:55):
kids, I say to people. While other boys and girls got Gi Joe's
and Barbie Dolls for Christmas, Igot a boombox. And then as time
went on, I joined the churchchoir and school choir and sanging, talent
shows and things of that nature. But I say when I decided to pursue
it, or when I knew thatit was my calling, was my high

(28:18):
school talent show, when I gotthat standing ovation from the audience and I
said, okay, I think Ifigured out what I wanted to do.
And I did the other things too. I went to school, got my
degrees, things of that nature. But I knew my calling was still music.
It wasn't until I want to say, maybe twenty seventeen was when I
kept running into people that didn't bebecome like okay, God, is telling
me, this is your time. This is your time to go after what

(28:41):
I blessed you with. You knowthis is your gift, and you know
your gift will make room for youto put you in the presence of great
people. And that's when I knewthat, Okay, I have to go
out and do this. As faras creating, I was always making up
little random songs as a child.I was always making beatside of anything.
I had a little keyward when Iwas a kid, and then when I

(29:02):
was a teenager, my parents gotme one for Christmas and everything's been musical
ever since. So I'm very gratefuland blessed to come this far and I'm
not done yet, yes, andto have been a part of a family
that provided that support. And I'mwith you, how you know, I
too am thankful for the same. But I know that there are some people

(29:23):
who are like, oh, youknow, I didn't have that when I
was growing up. And what wouldyou say to those people who are listening,
The adults who are listening, whohave some kinde of dreams and they
have been holding on to that sincethey were a child, and they didn't
have that family support, They didn'thave that network of extended family that even

(29:49):
you know would guide them, supportthem, mentor them. What would you
say to remind them that as adults, they still can start from where they
are and can use the skills andnetworks they have now to build their foundation.
Absolutely. Absolutely, Just know thatas long as you're continuing to wake

(30:11):
up every day, it's never toolate. I say this all the time.
Every time that you wake up,that's a sign that God is not
dealt with you. So age doesn'tmatter to me. I also like the
youth examples such as look at ColonelSanders. You know, he was in
his sixties when he found did KFC. Look at Sam Walton, he was
in his forties when Walmart got started. Ray Kropp was in his fifties when

(30:32):
he founded McDonald So it doesn't matterhow old you are. As long as
you continue to wake up every day, it's not too late. Another thing,
think about the environment that you're in. You know, you want to
surround yourself with people who have thatmotivation and grit, surround yourself with people
who are interested in the same thingthat you're in, or surround yourself with

(30:55):
people who know things that you don'tknow. Because if you continue to tell
your vision to the wrong people, you know, you're not really gonna go
an go anywhere. I mean,a person without a dream or vision is
gonna perish. So the important thingis surround yourself with people who have a
strong mindset. Because I said thisbefore, environment is key. Environment is

(31:19):
everything. Become a master of yourenvironment. Surround yourself with positive and lack
minded people and you can achieve whateveryou want. Yes, that is so
true, so true. And whenhe said whatever, I mean, that's
for real. It's for real, for real people. And for those of
you who are just tuning in.You're listening to Articulation Radio. My name

(31:42):
is God is stage and I aminterviewing mister Ahmad McCown and we are talking
about his great music that is outthere for you to get. And as
a matter of fact, you areright on time because people, you can
go right now to some whips dotcom. That's s O N g w

(32:02):
H I T like whip that songbaby song whip dot com and it's slash
a mod McCown. That's a hM A d m c c o w
n A h M A d Mc c o w N song. Whip

(32:23):
dot com slash a mod McCown. And if you're there on say Twitter,
you can get him at a modMcCown ninety. If you're at TikTok,
it's at a mod McCown. Andif you are on i G, it's
at a mod underscore McCown ninety. And so be sure to head on over.

(32:45):
People make those connects. But ofcourse songwhip dot com slash a mod
McCown, get your You can evenfind him on YouTube. Put in dot
a mod McCown, dot A hM A D M C C O w
N and yeah, we're gonna votesome of his cuts. But yeah,
you all will be able to see. You can hear his my destination.
You can hear what's best for me. You can hear something new. You

(33:08):
can hear Ahmad is my name, and he has other projects as well.
So let me ask you real quick. Mist fenm accounts now for people who
are like, Okay, you knowI have this music that I've already recorded.
What do I need to do toget my stuff out there? Like
you tell them, like did youlike go through and like wait until you

(33:31):
got some major deal with somebody,or did you just step out there on
faith, and you're like, hey, you know this is mine, I'm
gonna put it out there, andyou just took the steps necessary. Let
them know what you did to getyour work actually to where it is available,
to where they can hear it,and tell them in ways I would

(33:52):
say, generic ways to where theycan see the steps they would need to
take. Of course, of course, so for me, what I did
is I went through a distributor.I have a distributor. When I say
distributor, there are different platforms thatyou can use to download your music.
There's distro kid, there's CD baby, there's Tunecore, there's United Masters,

(34:13):
and then you can actually take yourmusic and upload it through those sites.
But before you do any of that, what I advise you all to do
is get your legal stuff done first, meaning get your songs copyrighted, get
your lips look at also look intosigning with a performing rights organization such as
BMI and ASCAP, and there's somany others as well. Get that done

(34:36):
first, because you definitely want toprotect your work because if you find out
that someone took your material, you'renot going to be happy. And once
you release your music, understand thisthe real work starts after you release.
It's time for you to market andpromote. It's time for you to market
and promote yourself. Don't spend allthis money and all this time in the

(34:57):
studio and not take some time toinvest in yourself and put yourself out there.
I mean, think about it likethis. If you want to study
culinary you could probably cook the bestchicken in the world. But if you're
looking to get your restaurant off theground or your food truck and you don't
promote yourself, you can't expect yourselfto go very far. So bottom line

(35:19):
is invest in you. Take sometime to learn the business side of things,
because if not just music is abusiness, learn that. Take some
time to learn the business and thecreative aspective things, meaning take some time
out of your week, you know, a few days focus on the business

(35:39):
side, and then maybe towards theend of the week or later in the
week, focus on the creative side. So basically, separate music from the
business. Yes, do both sidesof your development. You know, do
your business development and do your artistdevelopment, because definitely you don't need to
be walking into the say you're spendingall this money to record and you go

(36:04):
in and you're just rehearsing in thestudio. It's like, no, that's
not what that's for. You know, you should have it down, should
be able to run through that songand sing that song a few different times,
and each time should be good oreven better. You shouldn't be rehearsing
and figuring out there, you know, but yes and strategizing, like he

(36:24):
mentioned to you do your time managementbecause it and especially if you know you
have a lot of things going on. You know, you're working a job,
you have a spouse, you havea teenager, you have a baby,
you have the parents you're taking careof, you have all these other
things, all of those things thatyou know that you're doing that required time.

(36:46):
And if you're already feeling overwhelmed bythose things, all the more reason
why you need to take his adviceand apply some time management. Schedule some
stuff house, you know, lookat it on paper, and that way
you can see what free time youhave, and then you can get some
kind of consistency in what you're doing. Even if all you see is,
hey, all I can carve outis like ten minutes a day for whatever

(37:09):
else I'm doing to work within thatten minutes. It's worked. Commit yourself
to saying, okay, well I'mgiving five minutes to this and the other
five minutes I'm just gonna breathe dothat, do that. That's you got
it? And another thing and anotherthing I want to touch on to me
to cut you off. Another thingthat I want to touch on. Another
thing I want to touch on isdon't dedicate eight hours of your day working

(37:34):
for somebody else and not working onyour own dreams and aspirations afterwards. Now,
if you're nine to five, isyour dream, I'm not talking to
you, but you know that youIf you know that you has big dreams
outside of your nine to five andyou can't dedicate maybe at least one or
two hours, then you've made thedecision to be mediocre, which is unacceptable.
That's what I keep in my mindall the time I have to do
something related to my gifts each andevery day. Remember, you are worth

(37:58):
more than a paycheck, right andif you can get someone else your time
and focus and energy, surely youdeserve it as well yourself. You know
who else is it going to bethere to replenish you after these people have
drained you? You know yeah,so you owe you and now amad let
them know. Tell um, let'sdive the more into your songs and everything.

(38:22):
Now know that hearing your stuff,I'm like, I already know that.
Anybody who's around is probably like, yeah, you know you got some
tracks to me? Can you dosome tracks to me? Can you do
do you do tracks for other people? And? If so, is that
something that they would could reach outto you on a specific platform about?
Tell us about whether you create orcollaborate with other musicians? Right well,

(38:49):
I have been getting people asking askingme about collaborations. I haven't collaborated with
anyone as of yet, but I'mopen to it, definitely open minded about
that. But for me, itdepends on what they want to talk about.
It depends on their message as youas you know, I promote love
and positivity and enjoy. So ifthey want to come to me and talk
about something that's outside of that, then I don't want to participate in it

(39:13):
because I'm thinking about myself as well, because I'm thinking about my image and
I'm all about I'm all about authenticityand when people talk to me or when
people hear my music, they cantell that it's genuine because people can tell
when you're not being authentic, theycan see you right through that. So
I believe that if you're going toyeah, I believe that if you're going
to ask me to collaborate, thefirst question I'm going to ask you is

(39:35):
what type of message are you goingto send to people? Like? What
type of story are you try totell? Because for me, it's not
just about making music, it's aboutmaking memories. I think about are people
are still going to listen to thisten years from now, twenty years from
our, thirty years from now?Are people still going to listen to this
when I'm no longer here? Isthis the type of music that you can
play in front of your kids?So these are the questions that come to

(39:58):
my mind on that I accident asfar as collaboration. So when it comes
to collaborating with the gonna come correct, baby, say that exactly, exactly
and definitely I understand the whole aspectof you know, any music that's being
performed just things that I have tofeel and know. If I don't agree
with that message, I'm not gonnado that. It's even certain gospel songs

(40:22):
that I quit singing as a teenagerbecause it's like, oh, maybe no,
not these words, not no no, you know, so yes,
definitely, definitely. And now forpeople who are like, well I like
his songs, you know, I'vebeen on him a long before, y'all.
I'm glad Articulation Radio finally got upon and glad you caught up got
a stage, you know. Butthey're like, hey, where can I

(40:44):
catch him this year? I wantto see him perform and I ain't seen
instead such and such as so andso and twenty twenty two, Boll twenty
twenty three. Do you have anyupcoming shows or performances that people can look
out for? Uh, well, right now, I'm currently busy promoting what
I currently have as I've just been. I plan on traveling and meeting a

(41:06):
different type of producers into and studioowners and things of that nature. For
as shows, I'm concerned. Iam looking to audition for a show in
my area. I believe it's sometimein April, so I hope to get
a chance to perform and be infront of people and expose my music.
So definitely putting myself out a lotthis year. So that's the main plan
to put myself up more and networkand meet people like yourself as well,

(41:30):
and to grow as an artist aswell as a brand. Yes, yes,
and you are definitely putting in allthe foundations. You're doing that leg
work, you're hitting the ground running, and yeah, and you're i would
say, as people would say, making sure that you are checking the boxes,
you know, doing those things thatneed to be done, because people,
that's really what it takes, becausein reality, how can we expect

(41:52):
to get something if we haven't reallyput forward all of the effort that's required
to get it. Even if someoneelse is like, oh, well I
know so and so and they cando it for you, but you've been
sending up waiting for those people tocome through for ten months something that would
have only taken you ten hours todo, but you've been waited ten months
for somebody else to get it done. So do what you can do,

(42:15):
and amd like, what would youfor people who are like, Okay,
well, I know that he hasa lot going on, and you know
he's open to collaborate with people andeverything, but I want to be able
to chat with him and communicate directlywith him. Is there a certain one

(42:35):
of the social media platforms that's bestfor you or are you pretty much on
all of them equally? Your TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Is
there anyone that's the best for youFacebook? If they would like to reach
out to me directly. I'm onInstagram the most, so definitely Instagram,
yep, and also TikTok, butmostly Instagram. And tell him again your

(43:00):
talk yep. Yeah, TikTok isa mod mccount and Instagram is a mod
underscore mccount ninety carey good, yes, yes, and your songs, I
know that it's on multiple platforms. They're able to stream them, they're able

(43:20):
to download them, and I hadpreviously explained to them how the best place
with songqi dot com backslash a modnaccount. Is that the only place or
the only website or do you haveanother website that they can go to?
Right now, that's the only website, but I do kind of creating a
website soon. I'm and talk ofit, so you're going to look out

(43:44):
for that. Don't have a dateset yet, but it's the works,
so y'all stay on it just forright now. You know, you got
him at songwip dot com slash amodaccount, so go there, get it,
get it in. Even at Instagram. You got him at a mod
on just Store McCown ninety, yougot him at Twitter at a mod mccount

(44:04):
ninety, and you have him atTikTok at AMD mccownt, so you already
have multiple ways. And you havehim at YouTube. You can find my
on YouTube under a mod mccownt,so you have a lot of options.
And for those who did not hearus spell it out previously, it's Ahmad
m c cwn AMD mccount. Andmister, my very last question to you,

(44:31):

investing in myself and everyone else youknow who you are now. For those

(45:15):
who are on the fence of breakinginto the industry or wanting to pursue whatever
it is that you're what you wantto do, just remember one thing.
It all starts with your mindset. You are in control of that. Become
a master of your mindset. Andalso remember the importance of being in a
positive environment. And just to letyou all know that once you're on this

(45:37):
path to pursuing your dream and goingafter what you want, you are going
to go through what's called a seasonof separation, meaning you're gonna distance yourself
from people because you can't. Youcan't continue to elevate if you're around people
who have been bringing you down.I mean, it's gonna get lonely.

(45:58):
It's gonna get lonely sometimes. I'mcurrently going through it as but it's definitely
going to be worth it. Andremember the best investment that you can make
is in yourself. So invest inyourself. It pays the best interest.
And it's not going to be aneasy road. It's not You're gonna go
through some bumps. I've gone throughsome bumps. Just remember that the road

(46:19):
to success is always under construction. The way you live your life depends on
you. That's all I've got tosay about that. And all of that
is so true people, because it'slike, I'm sorry, how do you
expect your balloon to fly when youhave it tied to rocks? You know?
So, no so, And understandthat the only person who is with

(46:43):
you twenty four to seven and whomyou can rely on twenty four to seven
is you. You're the only personwho knows every single thing about you.
You're the only person who really controlsyou. And so you know for back
that this good music that we're aboutto roll, you're not gonna be in

(47:06):
control of this great message that you'reabout to get. Both of them filled
with great messages. And for thoseof you who just love to listen to

you. For those who it's thelyrics, it's the messages. Baby baby
