(00:31):
Welcome back to the newest episode ofbear Talk. I'm your host,
Abby Scobi. For this episode,Mallory and Bella will be combining forces for
a new segment of bare Beats, and lastly, Isabella Lesher will be giving
you your weekly update with the JuniorAct coming up on March twenty sixth.
I wanted to use my segment onbear Talk to point our listeners to a
(00:52):
few resources available to them at ourschool. I recently had the pleasure of
talking to Miss Holloway about some ofthe libraries lesser known ACT resources, and
honestly, I was a little disappointedin myself that I didn't ask sooner.
Did you know that we have multiplephysical study guides and prep books for the
Act available for checkout? I suredidn't, and I could really use that
(01:14):
sophomore year. Also, if you'relooking to go the more digital route,
you can access similar test prep materialsfrom the Tennessee Electronic Library or better known
as TEL. To get there, you go through the launch pad tab that
pops up as soon as you loginto your Chromebook and then go to the
search bar, look up the telapp and click the pop up box.
(01:37):
Once you're on the website, allyou have to do is click test prep
and choose Peterson's. If you donot already have an account, you'll need
to make one, but don't worry, it's free. Additionally, the library
lets you check out TI Inspire calculators. This can help you prepare and get
familiar with the math section. Speakingof math, Muelfa Theta provides tutoring for
(01:59):
students who need extra help with mathand science. They offer tutoring on Tuesday
and Thursday afternoon from three thirty tofour thirty pm in Miss Kent's room,
which is C one six. Ifyou don't necessarily need tutoring but a quiet
place to study instead, Muffatta alsohas you covered. The tutoring session can
also act as a study hall forall students during the times provided. Finally,
(02:22):
I wanted to talk a little bitabout my personal experience with studying for
the Act. I was fortunate enoughto be able to spend a little extra
money on an ACT prep book andit really helped me understand essential concepts that
I was unfamiliar with. I usedthe Caplin Act prep book, which is
retailed for about twenty thirty dollars dependingon the website you get it from.
(02:43):
And this was because a friend frommy GOUV school recommended it. As a
testimony to its power, it broughtup my score five composite points over the
summer between my junior and senior year. However, this book isn't just good
on its own, it's what you, the user makes of your resources.
Can have all the opportunity in theworld and not use it. So please
come to the library and tutoring andmake the most of your resources you have
(03:06):
here at school, and don't forgetto try your best on both the free
Junior and Senior Act provided by ourschool. And however, to Mallory and
Bella, Hey, guys, I'myour host boa and welcome back to bare
Beats. Today I have a specialguest joining me. Hi, I'm Mallory
Hey from flick Fix. But todayinstead of talking about like local national artists,
(03:30):
we're gonna talk about music that we'relooking forward to in the new year.
New releases, new albums, newtours, whatever. Can I just
say that this yere is like it'sgonna be such a good year for music.
I'm so excited. I'm so pumped. Oh my goodness, everybody's releasing
an album. It's gonna be soexciting, crazy lineup. But it actually
also has me kind of worried becauseyou know, that means next year there's
(03:52):
gonna be like no music coming out. That's true, and you know,
I just want to cherish it nowwhile we're here. But I had a
very hard time coming up with likejust two artists that I want to talk
about for this episode. So I'mvery excited. It's okay, it's okay,
we have limited time. Well, you go ahead with your you can
go first, because you have twoand I have one. Okay, Well,
(04:15):
I'll try and keep it short, you know me, I like to
ramble. But first I want totalk about Adrian Linker, who has a
new album coming out so soon.Adrian is most known for being in Big
Thief, the band, which haskind of been blowing up recently, which
I'm happy about because not to bethis person, but I'm going to be
(04:35):
this person. I've been a fanfor a few years now, but you
know, I'm so excited that BigThief is like getting the recognition deserves.
Though I do worry a little bitabout the tiktokification. She knew them before
they were popular. That's not whatI'm saying, you know. It's just
like whenever a fifteen second snippet ofa song gets on TikTok it, like
(04:57):
you know what it can do.I just understand that. U. I
don't know. Okay, I'm actuallygonna butcher it because I don't know how
it's supposed to be pronounced. ButDJ is in the beginning, who oh
yeah, I'm a guys. IWell, the thing is that so first
for that one, there's like nogate keeping that because it's literally the dude
from first. I mean, Iknow that's why I can't be upset about
it. But it's like, ohyeah, I just someone there's a part
(05:19):
of me that really wants to gatekeep. Well, I think it's natural.
This is something I think about alot. I feel bad for wanting
to keep Some times, I'm like, you should just be happy that artists
are like getting success, But it'slike you want to feel like you're a
part of a special middle club,Like you want to feel cool, that's
my artist, Like what are youtalking about? But yeah, so okay,
(05:43):
Adrian Linker. Yeah, new albumcoming out. Just released two singles
for it, and I think they'rereally good. It's very on brand for
like the general sound of Adrian andBig Thief, which is just like the
alternative indie folk thing, which I'mreally into right now. Okay, so
very excited for that one. Uh, you go ahead with your artist,
all right. This is one thatwe have literally both been talking about.
(06:06):
Well, I was about to saythis entire week, but we're recording this
on a Tuesday, so I guessall of yesterday. But wallows they are.
The new album is coming, thetour is coming. Your Apartment has
been released, and I am obsessedthe tease. It got me searching for
clues like I was a Taylor Swiftfan. Like I felt like I was
going crazy. Okay, Yeah, they've been like teasing something because they've been
(06:27):
on a little bit of a hiatus, right, they all don't released anything
in two years. Yeah, andthen they come back with this breakup album.
It's gonna go crazy. I know. When I first found out about
the breakup of Okay for context,Yeah, Dylan is kind of like the
frontman for the band. Yeah, and he was dating this girl who also
was in a band, and Iloved them. You know, I hate
to be that person who's like intolike the pop culture, like internet relationships.
(06:49):
Like I was a fan, Isupported them. I like both of
their music, and they thought theywere cute and it was like it was
pretty sad. But you know whatthis, like you said, this means
the breakup album is gonna go crazy, and I'm so excited. Wallows has
been like a very integral part ofmy like your life, I guess your
(07:10):
spirit, your soul. It's justlike the it was kind of like,
I don't know. Their music hasbeen the soundtrack for some of life's big
experiences for me over the past fewyears. And that sounds so goofy,
but like like I just SNG theSummer, I like your apartment song of
the Summer. I like them alot and their music, Like I don't
(07:33):
know this, I feel so cornysaying all of these things, but it's
okay, No, it's okay. This entire segment feels really corny sometimes,
but you just have to push through. Yeah, music is like I don't
know, I'm it's it's always beena big part of my life, and
it's like very important to me,So this band specifically, I feel like
when I listen to them, youknow, it's just it's just always a
(07:55):
good time. It's always a goodtime. I'm having such a good time.
I've been listening to Your Apartment almostevery day since it was released on
February sixteenth. The first time Igot into my car that day, I
turned it all the way up.I have not stopped streaming since. I
am I am ready. If theycome here, I'm buying tour tickets.
They better not go to Memphis likelast time. No, me and you
were going, Oh we're going frontrow. Yeah, even if it's in
(08:18):
Memphis barricade, even if it's inMemphis. I'm driving you, and now
we can drive. Yeah, becauseI couldn't convince my parents let me go
last time. No, we're notgoing to Memphis for a concert. I
was like, but it's overfall brick. No, I will literally drive you.
We're going. I don't care.We are going to wallows. You
will see us there. Yep,don't doubt it. All right, Right
now to your second one and thelast one. Yep. The artist that
I'm really excited that also hasn't releasedmusic in quite some time is Vampire Weekend.
(08:45):
Oh which, oh my god,to Miss Richie. Shout out to
Miss Richie. I know she likesto Vampire Weekend. Yeah, that's like
one of the first things I learnedabout her, Like Richie has she has
a very good taste here she does. I'm very excited for Vampire Weekend.
They have slowly been like spacing theiralbums out more and more. I think
they released they released like kind ofa crazy amount, like the first three
(09:05):
years of their career, but sincethey were kind of launched into you know,
the mainstream, they kind of they'vebeen slowing down and I appreciate it,
focusing on quality over quantity. AndI'm very excited too because like one
of their shows that comes out,I think the album comes out April fifth,
and then if you didn't know, there is a huge eclipse happening on
(09:28):
April eighth. Okay wait, Iactually didn't know. Okay, I'm so
excited. Please Okay, I'm likea really big space person, so I
can't go on a tangent about this, but I want to know about the
eclipse. Okay, we'll talk aboutit after. But the eclipse is very
exciting and they're doing a show onthat day. Wait, that's Sick in
Austin Moody's Amphitheater. So like,I'm I'm very excited because it marks the
(09:48):
eclipse and like that's so cool.Anyway, I'm sure this will sound similar
to their stuff. They want aGrammy and twenty twenty for Father of the
Bride, so I have a lotof hope for this album. And one
thing I want to talk about VampireWeekend is their album covers. They're always
so good, right, and thisone is specifically from I think it was
(10:11):
a photograph from nineteen eighty nine.I'm sure they learned their lesson with copyright
this time after I have the matterlaws. You can't just use whatever picture
you want. Well that's not whathappened, Okay, so another tangent.
Sorry I don't know the law.So for context, their album Contra is
really good and the album cover islike a polaroid of a woman who that
(10:33):
was like once again that it's avery old picture and they bought it from
someone. But apparently that person didn'tactually own the rights to the picture or
something. I don't know if that'swhat. I don't know, if I'm
misunderstanding it I try to understand, and I like still don't get the lore
every time. But the story goesthat the woman's daughter was just out and
about and like this album was gettingpopular and like saw the picture and was
(10:54):
like, that's literally my mom andshe was like what is this about?
And her mom was like, Ihave no idea. I haven't seen that
photo, and like I in forever, like I don't know who why that
picture is everywhere, and they gottena lawsuit and got sued and I was
like it was really messy. SoI just like, I love the fact
that they're using another photograph from likeeighty nine, but it's like a really
(11:16):
cool picture. Like I don't know. I love the album cover stuff with
them. It's very interesting to me. And they've already have two songs out
from the album and they're pretty good. So yeah, yeah, I love
them. Parer Weekend, I'm hype. I'm hype. Yeah, So anything
else you want to add before wehop off? Thank you so much for
having me. I hope we cando more, Yes, more things together.
