I will be back with another segmentof bear Beats. Now, here's Morgan
with the twenty twenty three Senior HomecomingCourt. Hey everyone, I'm Morgan Monaco.

(00:43):
I'm here with the class of twentytwenty four senior Homecoming Court. Hi.
I'm Ren Lindy. Hi, I'mMercy Straden. Hi, I'm Rickie
Anderson. Hi, I'm Analyst Ryder. Hello, I'm Eppie Scoopy. It's
great to be here with all ofyou. I was at the game on
Friday. You all looked stunning andpersonally, I feel like this is a
great court. Have any of youever been nominated before? Yes, that's

(01:08):
awesome. So that was Abby.Mercy and Brooke, how did everyone feel
whenever you found out that your peersnominated you this year? Rn? Do
you want to go ahead and start? I guess I was just excited and
excited to get a pretty dress.Okay, really sorry? Okay, Mercy,

(01:32):
I would say that I was excitedand I'm a little nervous because all
those eyes would be on me,but it was fun. It was Yeah,
Brooke, I'd say I felt veryhonored to represent my high school in
the homecoming court. And I definitelywas excited to definitely get a new dress

(01:56):
and stuff like that. And atlast I was very decided because I've wanted
band queen for a very long timeand it was fun to actually get that
right. And Abby just to secondwhat Brooks said, like it was such
an honor for me, and Ialso want to say, like it this
is something I've been dream about sincelike elementary school, and it just it

(02:16):
felt like such an honor to beable to represent the senior class out of
that night. And another question forAbby, how did you feel whenever you
found out that you were nominated forqueen? Oh my goodness, it felt
like like electrifying almost, and itwas just so surreal to like look back
on the photos because it almost feltlike I just blacked out as soon as

(02:38):
they said my name, Like Ijust did not even catch anything whatever everyone
was saying, like my crown evenfell off, I knocked my oh my
gosh, what's it called? Mydate? My escorts boutineer off, And
like I look back on the videosand almost like it just doesn't feel real
because it's just it was amazing, all right. What has been everyone's favorite

(03:01):
memory from this year's homecoming brand? You can go ahead and start with that.
Probably getting ready for it was excitingitself, just the build up until
I was going to like be there. The build up was like exciting.
Getting to get there and then takingpictures with all my friends was really exciting

(03:22):
and all that all right, AndMercy, I would say, all of
the pictures that everyone wanted to takewith me, and hearing everybody like scream
for me, scream my name, and like everybody complimenting me that night,
I've said so many thank yous mymouth started to hurt. But it was
fun, all right. And Brooke, I'd say getting ready was fun because

(03:46):
I got to get ready with myfriends and then trying my vest to not
fall in the field with my escortbecause he tries to push me when we
were walking. So I say havingfun with my escort on homecoming night was
probably my favorite. Annelie walking downthe field was fun, but my escort

(04:10):
was awesome all night, so Iloved getting to spend time with him and
he was totally incredible, so hewas lifting me up all night. And
my favorite part was just hanging outand having a great time with one of
my best friends and finally Abby. One of my favorite memories was actually just
like seeing Oh. Actually before homecomingactually started, we had a homecoming parade

(04:38):
and my dad somehow got his handson a Corvette and having people tell him
the revet was probably one of thebest parts of the day. Awesome.
And my last question is what haveall of you gained from this experience?
N you can go ahead and start. I think appreciation for like the school

(05:00):
almost in a way, and likeour student body, and it feels like
a good I don't know how toword it. I feel like it brought
me closer to the senior class itself, just to see everyone and like get
to represent the senior class and mercy. I feel like I just gained a

(05:23):
lot of memories from that night, being with everybody seeing how like happy everyone
was, like see me in thatpretty little dress, and like everybody just
holding me and like taking pictures ofme. I just think it was really
fine. It was a lot ofmemories from that night. Brook. I'd
say what I've gained the most outof this year in junior year getting homecoming

(05:48):
is really feeling rewarded from my schooland feeling like I represent very well my
Jaw High School, and also havingappreciation for my high school because putting homecoming
and everything together takes a lot.So I'd say I really appreciate everyone who
puts things together from out Jo HighSchool because without them, our school would

(06:11):
be very boring. And I thinkthat's what makes our school really cool.
Yeah, all right, And Analise, I gained an even bigger appreciation for
how awesome and supportive all of myfriends are. I feel like I couldn't
go five seconds that night without beingtold how pretty I looked or how gread
I looked on the field and justcongratulating me. So it really made me

(06:33):
realize that. All right, Andfinally, Abby honestly analyze took the words
right out of my mouth. Idefinitely would like to second that. But
it was also like I feel likeI gained a new perspective on just like
how like inviting and appreciative like everyonein our school is. Like it just
felt like throughout the night like everythingjust went perfectly because people cared so much,

(06:58):
not just about me, but likeeveryone on the court, about the
school and just spare pride, Andit just felt really amazing to see all
those people. All right, everyone, that is all I have for all
of you. Thank you all forcoming in to talk to me and answering
all of my questions. Thank you. No pap, hey there, I'm

(07:24):
Mallory Lowing. Welcome to my segmentflick Fix, and this segment, I'll
be discussing all things film, fromreviews to local film news. I'll be
talking about it all. So,unless you've been living under a rock,
the Barbie movie has been all therage recently, and director Greti Gerwig has
been getting a law of attention. With all this discussion, I've been inspired
to revisit my favorite film directed byher, Ladybird. In her debut as

(07:46):
a director, Greti Gerwig manages tocapture youth in such a fresh and unique
way. The film is a comingof age, a twenty four film focusing
on a chaotic mother daughter relationship. The main character, Christine, goes by
the name Ladybird in an attempt tocreate her own identity. As high school
senior who lives in Sacramento, sheis desperate to escape her lower class roots
and attend a pretentious East Coast college. The story begins when Ladybird and her

(08:07):
best friend Julie decide to join theirschool's drama club, where she develops a
crush on a boy named Danny, who seems to have everything. Ladybird wants,
a big, pretty house and afamily that isn't constantly bickering. She
believes that by getting close to Danny, she'll be one step closer to becoming
cultured and escaping her family's poor financialsituation. This idea continues when Ladybird befriends
Jinna, the stereotypical rich girl,by lying to her about who she is.

(08:30):
Through Jenna, she meets Kyle, who is a pseudo intellectual jerk who
seems exactly like the person Ladybird wantsto find on the East Coast, but
in reality it's all fake. However, the biggest part of the film is
definitely the relationship between Ladybird and hermother, Marian. They are extremely alike,
opinionated, strong willed, and stubborn. Ladybird has a hard time recognizing

(08:50):
the significance of all that her motherhas done for her because she's so focused
on getting out of Sacramento. Infact, it's not until she's at her
dream New York college that she ishow much love she has for her hometown
and her mother. I won't spoilthe ending, but I will say that
I think it was the perfect noteto end on. It leaves room for
two paths, one on which Ladybirdand her mother heal their relationship and one

(09:11):
where they don't. There are twomain messages of the film, one that
love is the same as attention, and two that you should value what surrounds
you. Both got me thinking aboutmy own life and completely change my perspective
on the depths of love and myown tendency to think that life and culture
are happening somewhere else. And eventhough there are a lot of cliches in

(09:31):
the film, they're presented in atotally unpredictable way. There is never a
dull moment, and I mean never. The characters are so through dimensional and
easy to love and empathize with.I think Greta Gerwig does a really good
job writing characters that are relatable, flawed, and real. Adding on to
that, I definitely appreciate all thechoices made cinematically as well. For example,

(09:52):
I love how the scenes are oftenvery choppy and the dialogue is random.
I think choosing to drop viewers intoa conversation right in the middle of
it adds to level of realism andsheer awkwardness of being a teenager. For
example, I love how the scenesare often very choppy and the dialogue is
random. I think choosing to dropfevers into a conversation right in the middle
of it adds to the level ofrealism and sheer awkwardness of being a teenager.

(10:16):
The movie feels like a string ofmemories and a glimpse into Ladybird's life
rather than a continuous plot. Itfeels very nostalgic and comforting, and this
is partially things to the brilliant useof color by cinematographer Sam Levy, who
I just adore. He's also workedwith Greta Gerwigg on Francis Haw, which
is another incredible film, But that'sbesides the point. Another thing that made

(10:37):
this movie so great is the actors. Sirscher Ronan and Laurie Metcalf specifically had
amazing performances and captivated me from thebeginning. Their on screen mother daughter relationship
was painfully relatable and well done.Benie Feldstein also really stood out to me
as well, being the funniest partof the entire movie. The film really
is an emotional roller coaster that Inever wanted to get off of. It's

(11:01):
apparent that a lot of work wasdone in pre production in order to create
that potent sense of nostalgia. Iwould even go as far as to say
that Ladybird is something of a periodpiece two thousand and two period piece in
which there was an extreme amount ofattention to detail, whether that be the
posters in Ladybird's room or the referencesmade by the characters. It's truly an
immersive experience and a standout compared toother indie films. In my opinion,

(11:24):
the movie is like a love letterto teens, relatable, awkward, and
humorous, yet emotional dramatic incomplex.I think it's obvious that I definitely recommend
this movie to anyone who is afan of the coming of age genre,
or really just anyone, because Ithink it's amazing and I have so much
love for this silly little movie. So yeah, definitely check it out,
especially if you liked Barbie and wantto explore more of Gerwig's filmography. I

(11:45):
think this would be a really goodplace to start. I think everyone will
dawn long enough, so I'm goingto wrap it up. Thanks for tuning
in till next time. Hey guys, Bella here again and welcome back to
Bear Beats. I'm really excited tobe back, so let's get into it.
For this episode, I want toreview an artist that leaned a little
more towards what I typically listened to, so I headed over to The Tower
nash on Instagram. Their bio describesthem as a publishing and promotional company for

(12:09):
live gigs, album slash, singlereleases and more for Nashville collegiate level artists,
so basically the great forsourcing local artistsand shows. The artist I chose
for this episode is a band calledRosetta, a rock trio that recently debuted
this year in Nashville. Its membersinclude Luke Moran their frontman, Anders Hansen,
their guitarist, and Dylan Duffy theirdrummer. They describe themselves as a

(12:30):
unique sound that is a musically diversetake on rock and roll, mixing the
sounds of blues rock, folk rock, progressive rock, and alternative music to
create a sound that is entirely theirown. And their description on Spotify,
they explain how they place a highvalue on creating original music which holds their
honest and genuine personal sound, describinghow elements of nature, literature and storytelling,
and their own self expression are infusedinto every song. They end this

(12:54):
description by stating that their musical andthematic roots are laid in a collective belief
in spreading love, piece and preservation. So far, their discography really only
includes their debut EP, Rosetta. They also released two singles, but they're
both included on the EP, soit's not like any separate projects or anything.
It's actually a little crazy how newof a band they are. When
I say they recently debuted, Imean they literally release their debut EP on

(13:16):
September eighth of this year, which, by the time this episode gets released
was only a couple of weeks ago. Kind of crazy anyways, getting into
the EP, Rosetta is twenty threeminutes long and comprised of six songs.
Like last episode, I won't havetime to touch on all of the songs
in the EP, even though there'sonly a handful, so I'll only be
sticking to those that really stuck outto me. Alongside this, I won't

(13:37):
really be able to do a lyricaldeep dive this time either, as there
are no lyrics to look off of. I can kind of tell what they're
saying, but if I'm going toanalyze it, I want it to be
exact. So this episode is reallyjust going to be me saying what I
like about the songs. To begintheir EP, they start with the roughly
one minute long, fully instrumental Introduction, cleverly titled Introduction. Immediately I was

(13:58):
hooked. They stay true to theirvalues, creating a unique sound that it's
very reminiscent of rock but also hassome of their own sound mixed in.
It's not very fast, but it'sa very full sound, if that makes
sense. There's a lot going on, however, they're able to make it
all blend beautifully. Also, Iread on my website that one of them
plays the organ. I don't reallyknow what the organ sounds like, but
I think I heard it in thereand in a few other songs. That's

(14:22):
not really that important. I justthink it's kind of cool. Anyways.
From there, they blend the beginningof the track seamlessly into the next,
slightly continuing the sound into their nextsong. Have you heard? Even without
knowing the lyrics, you can tellhow much emotion they put into their music.
Also, they make a very uniquedecision when singing the chorus. I'm
not really sure how they do it, but it makes it. I'm not
really sure how they do it,but they make it sound almost like they're

(14:43):
singing underwater. I don't know.I think it's a really cool choice.
Also, the guitar solo is sogood. I always love the guitar solos
and songs, and they're often myfavorite part of the song, so obviously
I loved it. I love theirsound overall. Their unique spin on rock
is so interesting and very fun tolisten to. Overall, great song.
All Right, The last time I'mreally going to touch on is probably their

(15:05):
most rocky and upbeat song in theEP, Lost my Mind Again. They
have this filter on their singer soundthat really makes it their own. I
mean, I know they're not thefirst people like ever to do this,
but it still sounds cool. LikeI said before, this song is really
upbeat, probably the fastest side ofthe whole album. Also, the chorus
is so good. They sing Ithink I lost my mind, but where's

(15:26):
yours? It's just a matter oftime before I and then a little guitar
riff and it's it's literally perfect, like it cuts off and it's just great.
I love it so much. Iwish I could analyze it a little
bit more, but sadly, I'mnot that musically trained, so this is
about as much as I know aboutthe technical side of music. To end
their EP, they finished with aslower folk year track I Shall Be Released.
Their vocals are much different and muchclearer, and their overall sound is

(15:48):
slightly different. You can really hearthe folk inspiration in this track. I
think ending this EP on a slowernote is a great idea, and it
really helps tie the whole EP together. It kind of makes everything feel complete,
you know. Overall, I thinkRosette is a great band. I
love their debut and I can't waitto see where they go in the future.
If you want to keep up withthem as well, you can find
them on Instagram at Rosette of theBand, or listen to them on Spotify,

(16:11):
Apple Music, YouTube, iTunes andDeezer. I really don't know what
that is, but it's in theirlink tree, so I guess it works.
I've also included their EP and ourplaylist that's linked in our bio of
our instagram at MJA Underscore Bear Talk. Anyways, that's all I've got.
