(00:31):
Welcome back to bear Talk. I'myour host Will Blackman. Today we're gonna
be visiting multiple topics as we talkabout the local sports here at MJ and
how the basketball season is closing up, and then we'll head into the Super
Bowl and the NFL Honors and theawards handed out there. First, we're
going to start with Mount Juliet HighSchool sports as the boys and girls teams

(00:52):
will travel to Gallaton this Thursday. The girls played Gallatin at six o'clock and
the boys played green Hill at sevenpoint thirty. Taking a look at the
girls standings, Beach sits eight andoh at first place, Greenhill and Hendersonville
both at five and three, andGallatin and Mount Juliet both at one and
seven. Heading over to the boys, Beach is six and two in first

(01:17):
place, Gallatin five and three, and Hendersonville, Greenhill, and Mount Juliet
all sitting at three and five.I want to give a shout out to
Johnny Fefferley for being named to theAll District team for District twelve four A
and Ashton Kirkandalf for being named tothe All Defensive Team for District twelve four
A. As we head into theoutside world of sports, the NFL season

(01:38):
is completed. The Kansas City Chiefsare the Super Bowl champions. They won
in overtime with three seconds to go, twenty five to twenty two over the
San Francisco forty nine Ers. PatrickMahomes finds mi Cole Hardman for the three
yard score to boost the Chiefs totheir third Super Bowl victory. Patrick Mahomes
threw for three hundred and thirty threeyards and two touchdowns and was named Super

(02:01):
Bowl MVP, his third of hiscareer. Looking at the forty nine er
side, Brock Purdy threw for twohundred and fifty five yards and a touchdown,
while Christian McCaffrey had eighty rushing yardsalong with eighty receiving yards and a
receiving touchdown. The player I reallywant to talk about is Juwan Jennings,
the ut vall graduate. He hadforty two yards receiving in twenty one yards

(02:24):
passing. He had a receiving touchdownand a passing touchdown there in the second
quarter to Christian McCaffrey. He's onlythe second player in Super Bowl history with
a passing and receiving touchdown in thesame game, joining Nick Foles from Super
Bowl fifty two. It was kindof a slow game to start out.
It was low scoring, zero tozero after the first quarter, only ten

(02:46):
to three at halftime, which wasin favor to the forty nine Ers defense.
They have had a good defense allseason long. But you really can
never count out Patrick Mahomes. Onlythree points in the first half, but
again, you can never count outMahomes magic. I want to talk about
Travis Kelsey. He was almost nonexistent in the first half, only one

(03:07):
reception for one yard, and thenI don't know if there was a halftime
speech for him or something like that, but eight receptions for ninety two yards
in the second half. Just acompletely different player in the second half.
I don't know if they stopped guardinghim or stopped double teaming him or something
like that, but he really showedout in the second half. Super Bowl
fifty eight is just the second everSuper Bowl to go to overtime. The

(03:30):
other one was Super Bowl fifty one, where the Patriots came back from twenty
eight to three. Kyle Shanahan wason the sidelines for the Atlanta Falcons that
game, as he was for theforty nine ers in this game. He
has lost the only two Super Bowlsto go to overtime. Now, something
I really like every year is theNFL Honors. It's where different awards and

(03:53):
accolades are given out to pretty muchthe top players in the league. First,
we're gonna look at the MVP finalists, which included Josh Allen, Lamar
Jackson, Christian McCaffrey, Dak Prescott, and Brock Purty. Now you look
at Josh Allen, I really don'tthink that he deserves to be here.

(04:14):
I couldn't tell you who would replacehim. But you had eighteen interceptions in
the regular season. You had anine game streak where you threw an interception
at least one in a game.So yeah, the stats are there,
the rushing touchdowns are there. Butif you really look at MVP the most
valuable Player, the best player inthe league, I don't think Josh Allen

(04:35):
deserves to be on this list. Now we take a look at Lamar Jackson,
who was actually named the MVP ofthe league. I mean, all
the stats are there. He ledhis team to the number one seed in
the AFC, he deserved to bethe MVP, and I totally agree with
that decision. Let's take a lookat Offensive Player of the Year. Those
finalists include Tyreek Hill, Lamar Jacksonagain, Ceedee Lamb, Christian McCaffrey again,

(05:00):
and Dak Prescott. The winner herewas Christian McCaffrey. He led all
running backs in rushing yards, allrunning backs in total touchdowns, and was
just an absolute machine all season long. When he is on the field,
when he is healthy, he isa problem and he is fully deserving of

(05:21):
this award. Taking a look atDefensive Player of the Year, Deron Bland,
Max Crosby, Miles Garrett, MicahParsons, and TJ. Watt.
Miles Garrett was named defensive Player ofthe Year. In my opinion, I
think it could have should have beenTJ. Watt. He had nineteen sacks
on the year to Miles Garrett's fourteen. He pretty much led in almost every

(05:46):
other stat compared to Miles Garrett, but not my decision to make just my
opinions. Now, Offensive Rookie ofthe Year. We had some amazing rookies
this year season, including two fromDetroit. We had Jamier Gibbs and Sam
Laporta pukin Nakua from the Rams,Bjon Robinson from the Falcons, and c

(06:09):
J. Stroud from the Texans.C J. Stroud an amazing story and
amazing season. Texans were three thirteenand one last season and he led him
to the playoffs, fully deserving ofthis award. He was named Offensive Rookie
of the Year. As we takea look at Defensive Rookie of the Year,
Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, JoeyPorter Junior, Kobe Turner, and

(06:32):
Devin Witherspoon were finalists. From thatWill Anderson Junior from the Texans and from
Alabama. He went home with thataward, fully deserving of it. I
agree with that, but I dowant to shout out to Devin Witherspoon.
He was a top ten pick andsure as heck played like it. He
was a monster all season long andI could have seen him winning the award

(06:57):
as well. Next up, aswe look into come Back Player of the
Year, this is an amazing waraward all throughout. The finalists Here where
Joe Flacco, who came off hiscouch three months ago and then led the
Browns to the playoffs, who wereon there he was their fourth quarterback of
the year. You have DeMar Hamlinwho suffered cardiac arrest, died, came

(07:18):
back to life, came back onthe field. Something special there. Baker
Mayfield who is on his third teamin two years and then led the Buccaneers
to the playoffs. That's pretty specialas well. And then Matthew Stafford in
two of Tugo I LOOA, bothcoming off of injuries last season and leading

(07:39):
their team to the playoffs. JoeFlacco ultimately won this award, well deserving,
completely deserving. He was on hiscouch three months ago with his kids,
didn't have a job. Browns neededa quarterback. He came up with
him. He won four games withhim, led him to the playoffs.
Amazing work. Speaking of the Browns, Kevin Stefanski won Coach of the Year

(08:05):
with the Browns again completely deserving. They started with the Shawn Watson, then
they went to p. J.Walker, then they went to Dorian Topson
Robinson. Joe Flacco was their fourthquarterback. They were in need of a
quarterback and he came through for them, completely blowing out all expectations. And

(08:28):
just for Kevin Stefanski to it tookhim four quarterbacks to get there, but
he made the playoffs and that's justa remarkable. As we look at the
other candidates, Dan Campbell, wholed his team to its first division title
in thirty years, just unbelievable.John Harball, who led the Ravens to

(08:48):
the first seed in the AFC,Kyle Shanahan who led the forty nine ers
to the first seed in the NFC, and then Dmiko Ryans, who came
in second place for this award. It'sble what he did in his first year.
The Texans had thirteen losses last season. Dimiko Ryans comes in brand new
head coach. He was on thecoaching staff for the forty nine ers.

(09:09):
He leads him to the playoffs witha rookie quarterback and that's why he was
one vote short of winning Coach ofthe Year. As we close up on
these awards here, one of thefinal ones is Assistant Coach of the Year.
That award went to Jim Schwartz fromCleveland. He was the defensive coordinator.
Cleveland had a top five defense theentire year. We're holding teams to

(09:30):
under fifteen points. Absolutely ridiculous. As a Titans fan myself, I remember
watching Derrick Henry Rush for I thinkeight yards at one point against Cleveland,
and that's when I knew they werethe real deal. The finalist for Assistant
Coach of the Year was Ben Johnsonfrom Detroit, Mike McDonald from Baltimore,
Ted Mounkin from Baltimore, obviously,Jim Schwartz from Cleveland, and Bobby Slowick

(09:54):
from Houston. One more award, which I think is the most important award
is Walter pay and Man of theYear award that went to Cameron Hayward from
the Steelers. Just amazing work thathe's done with his community and it's just
a great award that they give outevery year. Before we catch you on
