Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bart Talk is produced by the Golden Beer Gazette Mount
(00:02):
Juley High School student newspaper.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hey everyone, welcome back to Barrett Talk. I'm your host Sheldon.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
And I'm your host Jasmine. In today's episode, we will
be talking about Billie Eilish's new album and the shoe
trends you see in school.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
All right, So we're gonna jump right in and I
am going to be covering our first topic, which is
a song on Billy Eilish's new album called Wildflower. And
there is a little backstory about the people who are
involved in the background of the song. So Jesse Rutherford,
if you do not know, is the lead singer of
the Neighborhood and he dated around for six years someone
(00:54):
named Devin Lee Carlson and she is a model as
well as a brand owner. And there really ended in
around twenty twenty one, so they dated for a while
and then when they broke up, Billy comforted Devin through
the breakup, which she does write about in the song.
And then later on in twenty twenty two, Billy and
(01:15):
Jesse Devin's X were spotted together and dated for around
a year or less, which is definitely crazy. But the Honestly,
the craziest part about it was that the song title
is actually named after Devin's phone case brand. So her
brand is called Wildflower phone Cases and the song is
named Wildflower, So it's kind of not very undercover.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
It's pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, aren't those of phone cases that are like like
sixty dollars?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
They're actually not as expensive. I will tell you I
actually have one on my phone right now. Oh is
that case case? If I is a sixty dollars one.
Guys don't buy them. They're really expensive. Anyways, do you
want to talk about our next song?
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, so Birds of a Feather. I personally like this song.
I feel like everyone loves this song because it's like
a new TikTok trend. You bring in your friends or
just like people who have like are close to your heart.
So the song is about like friendships and relationships. So
anytime we see a video, it reminds people of like
friends and family, and we think that's a powerful thing
(02:16):
to invoke in others. So back to the TikTok trend
song with posting about friendships and families. I think it's
like cute to like just be like looking back on
like where like your friendship started or just like the
peaks of your like cousin.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Friendship type of things. Yeah, just to.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Look back on that and then like transition into like
friendships now and like, I don't know, just a big
change in that.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah. I think it's a very versatile song. I've seen family,
I've seen partners, I've seen friends, I've seen everything. I
just think it's so sweet.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, So I feel like it's more than just friendships
and families. I feel like it's the feeling that you
get and like just blasting it down the road with
your windows down. From personal experience.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
No, for sure, especially with your friends.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yes, you're a fun experience, like seeing to the top
of your your lungs exactly.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
All right, are we going to get into our next song?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yes, okay, So I am going to tell you some
more lore behind a different song. This song I think
is the funniest and also like so sad thing behind.
Like the song just has so much behind it. This
song is called the Diner, And the part that makes
me giggle about it is that Billy and Phineas. Phineas
(03:33):
is her brother in case you don't know, they write
most of her songs and her music together. In this song,
they sampled the Halloween Cahoot music and when I heard it,
I thought it sounded like cahoo and then I like
went and looked it up and it was a Halloween
and I like flipped back and forth and they are identical.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I definitely didn't know that that was. It made me
giggle so much. I thought now that I play who,
I'm like, oh, this is definitely.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know, exactly exactly so.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
And so this whole song is crazy and that just
the fact that it's sampled off the Helming music makes
so much sense because this song that Hineas and Billy
wrote was actually about her stalker. Billy had a stalker.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, but she had a stalker and I don't know
like sentencing. I don't know if he got caught. I
don't know about that or anything like that. But she
does talk about sentencing in the song. But basically it's
the song is written from the perspective of Billy stalker
and the lyrics are just like they're insane. If you
haven't heard it, go listen because it just all makes sense.
(04:36):
It talks about breaking in and creeping through yards and
jumping over fences. It's very crazy, and I'm sure she
is telling the real experience. So I think that one's
one that you have to go listen to to really understand.
But it has great imagery and I would just just
going to listen to it.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Our next topic, we want to include concert fits for
your upcoming.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Tour exactly it starts. It's here in October. Neither of
us going. Guys, please be sad for us because we
don't have tickets. If you have tickets, give them to us.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Bless up. I personally love concerts. I feel like it
just like brings the vibes and like it allows everyone
to come together and like sing their heart outs. The memories,
the memories, like the outfits. Oh my god, they're going
to eat this.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I think it's a more common idea that people have
started to dress up and have a theme for concerts,
Like I know Chapel, she's literally when she was a
smaller artist, she would do themes for her concerts and
it's so cool. So I don't Billy hasn't really put
on a theme or anything, but I think a lot
of people just kind of follow her style and follow
the album style. Yeah, and so do you want to
(05:45):
start with what.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
You would wear. I'm sure we're probably gonna wear.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Something like the same thing. Yeah, Like, I honestly think
that like more of a baggy look like she. I
just love Billy and her outfits, She's no for it. Yeah,
I feel like her outfits are more of a baggy
or she doesn't like tighter clothing, which I agree with
(06:10):
because I'm.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Real, I would not want to. Yeah, she's so real.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, Like, whoever is your style is?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
They do the work. You need to hit them up.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
A lot of like chunky jewelry, silver for sure. Yeah, silver.
I feel like silver is her color. Oh, very much
in silver. Do you have some outfit ideas?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, so very This is very like niche and very specific.
So if you know what I'm talking about, you'll get it.
But jeorts is obviously a big trend right now, and
I do not own a pair, but I think it
would be great to own my first pair for this concert.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
I need something.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
But there is a pair that I've seen online several
times recently, and it is the pair where they're shorts
and they have like a star on them, like a
big Normally it's black. I've seen black. I've seen other
colors on like the back or the front, and it's
just like on the legs, like up to the waist,
just a star and I love it so much, and
I think it's very billy.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, I've seen that on like she you know she
makes like that because of outfits. Yeah, I've seen that.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Ye, yeah, I've seen it all over. So I would
like to maybe find some of those or just some
plane sewords. And then I've seen a lot of people
say they're gonna wear like jerseys, and so I think
just Baggasi's in general, but I think jerseys would.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Be really cute.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
And then I have a friend who has mentioned several
times that he would like to wear a bandana. I
think that would look really good as well. I think
it would match just the whole outfit.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
And just like the glasses she wears, like even though
we're gonna see glasses, yeah, even though we're going to
be like a clothed in dark space, Like I feel
like the glasses would bring out.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
For the vibes, yeah, for the vibes.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
And so now we're gonna talk about our favorite songs
on the album. Would I like to go first? You
can go first, Okay, So my favorite songs are probably
the Greatest and Skinny. I think both of those songs
relate to me. Yeah, no, And I think they're very
personal songs.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
We did not cover.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Either of those, yeah, but they're very good songs.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
They are very personal, and I think that those are
my favorites.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
So I was gonna say the same thing. I like
Skinny and Blue. I don't know if you Blue. I
love Blue, Yeah, and I like the Greatest. I feel
like Skinny relates to like how we all used to
feel as like going through high school and like hormonal
(08:23):
changes and all that. I feel like that's a good, very.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Teenage experience, especially a teenage girls experience that.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah. Yeah, what do.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
You think of Billy as the whole?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
So my dream with Billy I've lasted for a while now.
I love Billy. I am Billy Eilish. When I was
in sixth grade and she had just come out with
I Want To Not she had not just come out
with Ucean Eyes, but that was very popular at the time,
and I listened to that song and I went into
her other music, and so there were songs like Copycat
(08:54):
and stuff like that that I, you know, got into
and then I think, for a while, this is actually
really funny.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
My ring tone or like my alarm sound in the
morning was lovely by Billie Eilish, and imagine it or
you gain from that. I know, I know every morning.
So now when I hear that song, I actually hate
it because I listened to it every morning when I
woke up. But yeah, so I've loved her for a
while now, and my sister has a big love for her.
Even my mom is a big, big fan because they
(09:22):
went to her concert. So in my family she's definitely
on a high horse.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
We love her period as she should.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
I think she's really getting into her own, you know,
way of things, in her style and her way of
singing and what she writes about now more than anything,
I know she's most proud of what she's done recently.
So I think I'm continuing to grow as she grows. Yes,
that makes sense.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
I love her vibe, like the way she dresses and
the way she has like her own vibe, Like when
you listen to the radio, you don't hear anything like her,
like anything that she sings, or like her infinias, like
producing all that. I just like how she has like
a different, like little vibe going on. It's just like
love it.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
She's new. She's definitely new from what we've seen.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
I love her voice and it's just something different.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Beautiful vocals. She's amazing.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
All right, I think we're gonna move into our next topic,
which is shoe trends that we've seen recently. Yes, you know,
you guys might have seen something different, but these are
what we've seen the most recently.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
So the first thing we want to talk about is,
of course the dda's campuses and sambas. I personally have
the regular just sambas, the white and black ones, and
then the gray ones. It's funny because I purchased the
gray ones not too long ago, and my brother called
them chuck e cheese shoes. I don't know, I mean,
(10:42):
because they're like chunky.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
It's funny.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
I mean, I think there's a little bit of accuracy
to that, but I still love them.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, shout out Ryland, thank you for coming back.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Hey, I have the green ones, so mine are probably
more chucky cheese than the gray ones.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Yeah. The color, yeah, I've been seeing them a lot,
like the most basic fits, but like they're just like
the good fit, like with jeans and like a little
cute like little.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Basic talk casual fits. Yes, for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
I also love them with jawors I personally wear, I
wear geors like there's sweatpants or something, but them with
like long socks and like a cute oversized graphic tea
or even just like a tube top.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
But that's not school yeah, not school appropriate, but in
your free time, would recommend wearing that house.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I've also been.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Seeing them with like more baggear style, especially because the
chunkier shoes like gives a little I don't know how
to explain it, but like with a bag ear fit
and like a little chunkier.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Shoe, No, for sure.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Together some main colors I've saw, like I don't know
if you saw, like all the black, the black ones.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Black, I feel like black and samas and campuses are
very popular, as well as the green.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I have the green ones, yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Because it goes with everything you know, you don't want
to have like a bright orange one and like, yeah
nothing bright orange and green is a pretty common color,
especially like black, gray and white. The basics yeah, yeah, yeah,
I feel like they're comfortable. The campuses are not as No,
the campuses are comfortable. I feel like it.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Okay, so I have both. I love both of them.
I think the campuses are actually a little bit more
comfy because they're chunkier. They got more room in there. Yeah,
the salmas can be a little tight to your foot.
But I have two per sambas. I have a white
and a black pair. They are wearing the white ones
actually right now. They have never done meat dirty. I
love them, but once I got my campuses, I like
love the chunky look like jeans and everything. It just
(12:33):
I think it's more of a statement to your outfit.
The sambas kind of blend in a little.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
But I think they're both.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Pretty comfortable in my opinion. I think I'm sure one
is more.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Comfortable than the other.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah yeah, Okay. Pricing, so they are gonna cost you
a little bit of a pretty penny.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I feel like they're worth it, though, Like one hundred
is like a neutral, like basic.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
I agree. I think I've seen them on sail.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Yeah I have.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
If you go on shoe reselling websites, I've gotten mind
for cheaper than one hundred, so you just got to
kind of look. But they do retail for around one
hundred dollars, so I wear mine. I've had my white
sambas for over a year and now, oh, I took
a trip in Europe. I wore them all day, every
day walking, and I love them so much.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
I mean, I feel like they're worth it. And yeah,
it's like it's either too cheap or too expensive, and.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I think that's perfect middle Yeah, yeah, Okay. So our
next shoe is one that you guys might not have
heard of. It's a little different, and I did, in fact,
just buy these shoes yesterday. They are Moto boots, and
I've seen them a lot on Pinterest, a lot on TikTok,
but not a lot in school. I think they're very edgy,
very out there, so I think a lot of people
(13:41):
are trying to stay neutral. But I've seen them a
lot on the internet, and I love them. They're essentially
just like what they sound like. They're these tall boots.
They're like mid calf boots. I've seen brown and black
law and they have a bunch of buckles on the
side and I think it just looks so cool.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
And the ones that I.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Bought yesterday have a square and I think it looks
just beautiful.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Immaculate. I think it looks amazing.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
How would you style them?
Speaker 2 (14:06):
So, the way I've been stiling mine is that they're
really good for fall, and so I've been using lots
of greens, browns, and oranges, which are very fall colors,
to like go with the brown of the boots. And
I have a white skirt that I really like and
I think it matches with But I think my favorite
way I've seen them styled is with either like a
(14:26):
bloomer short, which are like really cute fluffy shorts, okay,
or I've seen shorts, which is I think an unpopular opinion.
I think a lot of people would look at it
and be like, but we hear our fashion icons.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, so I love a good like I feel like
if you were like a little tinier top, like like
a tube top or just like a tingle or like
a big jacket, Yeah, it would like bring in like
the baggy, it would like take away from the baggy
a little.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah you know, yeah, no, I understand what you're saying. Yeah, yeah,
with like obviously guys, school appropriate we're talking about here,
but outside of school, which I haven't even seen any
in school. So but other than just you know, a
long skirt. I would say, a short skirt with maybe
like some sort of cute sweater for fall, maybe some tights.
And then I think, my favorite way I've seen them
styled is like a long, chunky sock, So a sock
(15:14):
that's almost like a knee high.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Yeah, so it sticks.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Out of the boat a little bit, and I think,
I just think it's so fall. It's so it honestly
is going back to the like you know, basic fall girly.
But it will never fail us and so I'll stick
with that forever. Oh. Also, they are very comfortable. Just
wanted to say that they are expensive. I will not
lie to you, but your girl with the dupes has
(15:37):
found one for you. Target fifty bucks. They have a
brown pair and a black pair, and that's where I
about mine yesterday. Yeah. They like very close to the
ones you've seen on Pinterest, which are like the Mew
Mew or the Steve Madden very expensive ones, super super close.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
So yeah, so they're fifty bucks, which is pretty hard
to beat.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
If you ask me.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Yeah. Most definitely. Our new topic is gonna be Brickenstocks clogs.
I personally have the the Target version of them because
I'm not spinning one hundred dollars girl.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
I got the Amazon version.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah, they're I think they're comfortable, they're cute. They're like
a basic like fall need like, which is like a comfy,
like chunky.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Sock, if you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
I've been seeing them styled like most of the boys.
They'll wear them with like athletic wear.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Yeah, sure, I seem wise.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
And sometimes they wear like George's like a big oversized
graphic tea. I think that's cute with like socks, it's
like basic like Pinterest.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Yeah, that's very like both girls and guys.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yeah yeah, I mean I wore one time. Yeah anyway, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I have a pair. They're super comfortable.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I just think the pricing of the actual Birkin Socks
brand one hundred and sixty.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Dollars, I'm like, should I buy it? Should I not?
Like I want the black ones so bad? The Black
ones are like should I spend one hundred and something
dollars plus shipping exactly? I'm like no.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
So yeah, I got mine from Amazon. They were like
maybe fifty or sixty, which, yeah, not bad at all.
And I mean the clogs are pretty universal, so it's
not that hard to mind it do right.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
And you can like wear it with anything I feel like.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
So yeah, all right, we're going to get into our
next one, yes, which is ballet flats, which is not
something you've seen around school as much, but again another
thing I've seen a lat on the internet. I do
own two pairs. I have a red pair and a
cheataprint pair, and I love them so much. I have
the ones with the strap, which I think is much
more comfortable. Yeah, versus I've seen a lot of just
(17:39):
like the classic ballet flat, but I love them styled
with like big baggy jeans maybe oh yes, jean and
then like a cute little sweater or I've seen them
with skirts as.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Well, which I really like.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Those are cute.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Yeah, so I think they're pretty pretty universal. Yeah, I've
even seen them with georts. It's not my favorite, but
it's not bad.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Yeah, it looks stylish.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
I watched this one TikToker. Her name is Emily Kaiser.
I don't know if you know her, but she wears
them with like a cute, like elegant like top, like
a sweater vest or like jeans, and like she just
pulls it off so well. She'll wear like the red
ones and then like a black top so it's like
it ties it in.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
They're super elegant, yeah, think, and pricing really really depends
on where you get them. Mine are from like a
cheaper website from cider, so they're a little cheaper.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Mine we're like.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Thirty forty, yeah, which is pretty average for a ballet
flag something too crazy, but I'm sure some brands are
probably pretty expensive.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I mean, same thing with the clogs. I wouldn't want
to spend one hundred dollars for ballet flat exactly.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Like it's just a little slip on shoe. Yeah, it's
like a sneaker.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yeah yeah, all right.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Our last one is Cowboy boots, which I do want
a pair. I do want a pair of every single
one of these now of Cowboy Boots. Oh yeah, all
the shoes we've covered today, I have a pair of
all of them, but period. I have some red Cowgirl
boots that I just recently bought and I love them
so much. WHI they're very versatile. You might see me
and them tomorrow, okay o when this comes out because
(19:04):
it's USA Day. Yeah, you'll be perfect. I think they're
pretty comfortable, but it really depends on the ones you
buy mineor again, cheap from Amazon. Don't go expensive guys.
Mine are cheap from Amazon. I don't remember how much
they were. They were probably around seventy, which is pretty expensive.
But they're actually nice quality, which I was not expecting. Yeah, Amazon,
(19:26):
but you know, if you were to go to like
boot Barn, they would be like two hundred dollars.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Yeah, which ye if.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
You want a nice pair of boots that are gonna
last year. But I'm not going on a farm or nothing,
so I don't need.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I went to downtown Nashville and I looked at all
those shops and they were like.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
So expensive three tourist track.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
And I was like, I'm not spinning that much pair
of boots.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
I'm not gonna wear like, yeah, so mine I read.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
They're like almost to my knee, which is a little
different than what most people have, And I really like them.
I think there's so many just out of cowgirl boots
or cowboy yes, however you want to call them. But
I've seen I like them with like a white a
long white skirt. I think a long white skirt is
really cute. Maybe like some sort of denim, I think
(20:12):
goes well, so like, yeah, yeah, white skirt I think
would look really good. But yeah, and so I think
they're comfortable. But again it's really where you get them from.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yes, most definitely, and depending on how you style them,
Like if you just straight up where Farmer's outfit with them,
then it's.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
I mean, we're Tennessee, so yeah, I expect to see
it for sure, but I've seen that a lot around
school for sure. All Right, I think that's all for
