Speaker 2 (00:09):
From Studio A in Sunny Florida. Welcome to Beauty and
the Beach Radio, where it's all about who's beautifying Vero Beach.
Today's show is brought thrated by Dale Sawrenson Real Estate
and here's your host and Glamour Girl makeup artist Cindy Gets.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hey, guys, welcome back to Beauty in the Beach Radio.
I'm Cindy Gets your host, and I'm inviting you to
join us for our bonfire today on the show. That's right,
you heard me, a bonfire. I got my marshmallows ready,
I got my favorite person ready. I've got our fire
going here. And guys, don't call the fire department, although

(00:50):
maybe you could.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Man, that could be interesting.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
But yeah, but we're talking about the bonfire that is
happening on our beach. It's coming up, and I have
someone that's been with it from the beginning. He's going
to talk to us about it. It's going to be
so much fun. We've got our skiers ready, we got
our marshmallows ready, and by the end of the show,

(01:13):
we're going to have some toasting marshmallows. So please welcome
one of my favorite human beings and he is.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
You see him at Waldos.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
He operates one of our most wonderful restaurants on the
beach and just a great friend.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Please welcome back to Beating the Beach Radio. Lee all said,
thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
Okay, I always love coming back here.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
You need another marshmallow because you're just shove that on there.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Okay, God, So what do you think of our fire?
By the way, look at us, we look legit.

Speaker 6 (01:49):
Nobody in town goes above and beyond like you do. Mean, yeah,
here we are.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
And it's like what one hundred degrees out? We have
our jackets. But it's all about, you know, presenting the
image anyway. So Lee, I am so excited to talk
about this.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Tell us about this bonfire on the beach.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
You know, for those that have not.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
He keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. How many
years is this now?

Speaker 5 (02:15):
This is our tenth year.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Tenth year?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
That's crazy. What is it all about? Is it entertainment?
Is it fundraising?

Speaker 5 (02:24):
It's all about it.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
It's all of the above, Okay, all the things you love.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
You're very good. You love fundraising, you love Dmontaine. So
that's right up your alley.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Yes, it's.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
We call it the party of the year, okay, every year, okay,
and we've all we've also rebranded ourselves as the Fab five,
the Fab five, the Fab five okay, so i'll tell
you the Fab five.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Are I think it should be the Fire five, but.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
The Fab five okay. So November eighth is Bonfire Fest.
It is a joint venture of all the business side
hotels and restaurants. So this year the Fab five is
Vero Beach Hotel and Spa is a location, the Boiler Okay, Mulligan's,

(03:18):
Costa d Este and then Waldo's. So that's your lineup
from north to south. But it's a great event. Everybody
loves it. Unfortunately, the last couple of years.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
We weren't able to light off the bonfires, so.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
It was really dry, right, it was.

Speaker 6 (03:40):
Very windy windy Yeah, yeah, so the wind. But it
doesn't matter. The party goes on regardless. But it's also
a fundraiser. So this year, and actually it's our second year,
we are teaming up with next Gen Next Gen Generation
Veterans Siation Great Association, Great Association, So they they do

(04:06):
a lot with our local vets, both active and retired.
So if any of our veterans need a hand, you
just reach out to next Gen and they will get
taken care of.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
So I saw something about a passport, and I bring
that up because it has something to do with next Gen.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
So talk to them about the passport.

Speaker 6 (04:26):
So what you do with the passport? Passports are available
at all five locations.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Okay, so we're at Hotel, Boiler, Mulligan's, Costa and Waldoz.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
Yes, so you take your The passport is a twenty
dollars suggested donation. Yep, of the proceeds go to next Gen.
You take your passport as you visit each of the
five properties the night of the bonfire, Yes, the night
of the bonfire, you get it stamped, and then your

(04:57):
last stop on the on the trail. Once you have
your card filled, you can just drop it at any
of the locations and then we do a huge drawing.
Each property puts up at a gift basket. Yeah, well,

(05:18):
I know like Vero Beach Hotel and Spades, Waldos, Mulligan's.
We all do a night's day plus you know, gear
and food and beverage. So we draw five drawings, one

(05:39):
for each of the properties. Because each of the property
is doing the basket and it's just.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
A lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Now, the last couple of years, like.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
I said, we didn't have bonfires except the Waldos because
ours wasn't it virtual? Ours is virtual, So we have
a huge screen that goes pool deck that our bonfire
is a virtual bonfire because when you work at a
place called the drift Wood, open flame is not recommended.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
So you know, but I mean it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Each of the properties have different entertainment, different food options.
They had their bars set up on the beach, and
then of course Waldo's you come up and we have
all our stuff going on up on the pool deck.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I mean, let's take someone from the beginning that has
never been so let's say, would you suggest they start
either north or south, doesn't matter.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
I mean, well on that night, tell us how you
would idealize.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
Closest you can get from your parking space should be
your starting Okay, is.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
It like the parade where there it's just so many
people that it is hard to find parking.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Yeah, it's the last couple of years, we've estimated the
crowd anywhere between two thousand to three thousand people come
out for this event.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Amazing.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
Yeah, so we raised a ton.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
Of money for the veterans, which is super important. But
regardless of whether they the other properties can get their
bonfires off or not, it's still a party. It's fun,
it's really local motivated.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Absolutely, So, Lee, I'm going to pretend like I'm gonna
be able to park. I love the guys, uh that
valet at Vera Hotel, So I'm gonna I'm gonna go there.
I'm gonna get my car valeted because i love them
so much. I'm going to go to the beach and
they're gonna have their own bonfire going. And then there's
specials on drinks and food each each passport.

Speaker 6 (07:46):
Sorry no, no, no, because everything is cash and carried. Okay,
so all you gotta do is show up, go down
to the beach, enjoy yourself, get it, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
So they'll have like fttle drinks set up on the beach,
so you're okay, So you're not like buying something in
Cobalt and then going which is the restaurant for those
that don't know, and then you go down to the beach.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
It's all kind of on the beach.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
Well yeah, but you could and the nice part is
you can either stroll the beach uh huh to each
location right, or you know, if that's too much or
you're unstable, you can Certainly there's enough party in going
on that you don't actually have to go down on
the beach.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
So personallyly, if I'm doing this, I would want to
do the beach, So I would want to either wear
flip flops or maybe even take my flip flops off
and just you know, walk in the sand with my
bare feet. It won't be hot, you know, because it'll
be evening. It starts at five pm, right.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
Five to nine, five to nine.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
So what I would like to do is, let's say
I start because I want to finish with you.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
So I could start at your hotel and maybe can
raise right, make how far is that? Do you think?
Half mile? Maybe it's not that far.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
It's not people want they're going to walk.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Yeah, So then the next stop would be Mulligan's then,
and they.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Would know the Boiler, the Boiler, sorry boiler, Yes, So
the Boiler would have their own bonfire and their own
drinks and specials and are there games at each stop
as well?

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Some people do?

Speaker 6 (09:20):
I know at Mulligans they had people out there doing
what the heck the namehood?

Speaker 4 (09:29):
Oh, I don't know what you're doing. He just did
some sort of jiggy and you don't know because you
to make it work.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
Limba not not limba pulla.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Sorry, there we go. Okay, hallo, okay, hullo.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Okay. That sounds fun to be.

Speaker 6 (09:53):
And this is and I I love to put this
out there. This is a family friendly that. Yeah, bring
the kids. It's a lot of fun. They love the fires.
I'm going to get I'm going to give out a
little secret because it's going to be very cool.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
So yeah, I know. So Costa has a wedding that night.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 6 (10:20):
So when we were all at our meeting talking about it,
I said, well are they are they Bridezilla or are
you dealing with a really cool bride? And she's like,
oh no, she's like a really cool bride. So what's
really cool about Costa est the bride and groom's going
to light their fire.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Oh my gosh, that is so cool. Yes, there you go, she's.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Got that is so freaking cool.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Way to rally and be a part of the show.
Love that.

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Oh. I mean, they are like so excited and they
have put it out to all of their wedding guests
that even though we're having our little shit and dig here,
this is going on along the street and it's really
a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Wow. So I would stop at Mulligan's and then I'm
gonna walk in the sand.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
I'm going to keep going.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Cindy, I'm gonna drag her with me, and then we're
going to go to let's see so it's it's vera hotel.
Then I hit the boiler, then Mulligan's Costa, maybe we'll
see the ride and groom, and then of course finish
with Waldos and Waldez is going to do the virtual
of fireplace screen again on.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
The absolutely pull deck Yep, it's yeah, it's right where
the Barbary Coast sign is.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Yes, we have.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
I had a screen made that goes from end to end.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
I love, So we project ours on that screen and
then what.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Fun things are you doing at Waldo's.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
We're going to have a barbecue buffet.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
Okay, each property does kind of their own thing.

Speaker 6 (11:52):
Sure, so what we do with ours is it's it's
ten dollars or your travel card.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Now let me re reiterate this is.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
Only a Waldoz okay, Okay, So your travel card or
a ten dollars donation gets you the slider buffet, okay,
and all of our proceeds from that will go to
the veterans.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Okay, So it sounds like it's a good idea.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
People have some cash ready.

Speaker 7 (12:23):
Sprin cash, yeah, that's always yeah, yeah, a lot of
possible tipping and just enjoying the service from all of
the beautiful resorts and restaurants on the beach, so wow,
oh my gosh.

Speaker 6 (12:36):
Yeah, and it's not just on the beach. So each
of the other properties will have stuff going on on
their pool deck at heat and okay, Mulligan's is pretty
much sustained there at Mulligans Casadest, there's going to be
stuff going on at the beach, plus up on the

(12:57):
pool deck and then Waldos is all around them pulled.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
So love it. Okay, So let's make sure everybody knows.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
So it is Saturday night, November eight, it's five pm
to nine pm to nine pm, and in advance they
can get their passport. It's a donation situation, suggested donation
of twenty dollars. What if somebody says I only have

(13:25):
ten I mean, I know the answer to this.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
But suggested donations.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Okay, yeah, you can't when you're when you're doing a
fundraiser for five.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Who one ceed three?

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Yeah, you have to use the words suggested donations.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
So now if you want to write a check bigger.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Yeah, yeah, and buy a bunch of tickets.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
Absolutely, yeah, okay, And then they go to any of
the Fabulous five.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
The Fab five, the Fab five five five.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
Any of the Fab five to get these passports. Is
that correct?

Speaker 5 (13:59):
Correct? They were?

Speaker 6 (14:00):
There will be volunteers from next generation on each of
the properties. They'll be signed up of purchase your travel
paths or have it stamped, and you just walk up
if you've already purchased your card, get it stamped at
that location.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Each of us have a different stamp.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Nice, okay, yeah, it's no shenanigans.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Each one of us has our our our initials.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
Is a fundraiser, yeah, but it's just not only is
it a fundraiser, it's fun.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
It's fun.

Speaker 5 (14:37):
It's a great night out.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
People have always asked why don't we do this in
like January?

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Huh?

Speaker 6 (14:46):
And the reason why we never booked it that way
is we want it to be all about the locals.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Oh that's cool.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, so I mean and which, by the way, if
you have your Waldo's Love So Local card, your ten
percent card is available.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
You can still get ten percent off even though.

Speaker 6 (15:07):
It's a an event.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Look at that. Look at you.

Speaker 5 (15:11):
We love the locals.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
So we're gonna go to station WREK in just a minute.
But tell me what do you hear from your uh
you know, not clients, but people that come to the restaurant,
your locals, your regulars. What do they say about this
this event every year?

Speaker 5 (15:28):
They love it?

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Do they?

Speaker 5 (15:29):
They love it.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
It's become, like I said, it's become like the biggest
event before season begins.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Okay, so it's a cool, cool kickoff. Yeah. Absolutely, Oh
my gosh, I love that so much.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Lee, I think our marshmallows are done, So let's go
ahead and grab one, and let's go ahead and do
a little taste tests to make sure that.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Eat on radio.

Speaker 4 (16:00):

Hey, guys, welcome back to Meeting the Beach Radio. Here
you go, Lee, you're running out of marshmallow's there. Okay,
So guys, we are talking about the yeah, marshmallow fighting
beach side bonfire fast right here in Vero Beach and
that is when November.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
What November eighth from five to nine.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Excellent, excellent, And we want to make sure that we
do a shout out to Dale Soorns in real Estate.
They always make sure that we're on air and we
can share great stories like Lee's and great events in
our community. So whether you're buying or selling a home,
definitely reach out to them. You can find them at
Sorenson real estate dot com.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Those marshmallows were good, by the way, Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Yeah right, so Lee, one thing we want to make
sure that the listeners know because it has grown, This
bonfire on the beach has grown, and there's a several
thousand people and parking can be a little bit frustrating
and a little hard, So tell us about that. How
can they make it as simple as possible with the parking.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
Well, my first recommendation would be ridhair over lift, whatever
one it is.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Or even carpool if you're going with meeting up people,
maybe carpool on the mainline and then go over so
it's one car instead of five.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
And also you know we have the beachside buggy that
runs around golf cart. Yeah, yeah, that Adam and it
is Adam and his wife Am. They'll have two on
that night and they will make trips over to Riverside Park.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
And I'm never parking office.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Is there a fee and then a tip on that
or just tip? How does that work?

Speaker 5 (21:11):
Do you know? It's just tip?

Speaker 4 (21:13):
Tip?

Speaker 5 (21:13):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (21:14):
So again, make sure you have some cash on you.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yep, exactly.

Speaker 6 (21:18):
But it's just it's a lot of fun and I
can't reiterate it more.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Even though we all love the tourist.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Of course we do.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
This is this is for us local before the crowds.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Yeah, I love it. I love it. It's a kickoff to
the season.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
So here we are, we're roasting our marshmallows right here
on Beauty the Beach radio getting ready for the bonfire.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Does anybody bring is there any roasting marshmallows or lake?
How do people s'mores?

Speaker 8 (21:51):
Do?

Speaker 4 (21:51):
We have s'mores going on stations.

Speaker 6 (21:53):
Some of the some of the properties actually do because
of the bonfires. And there is a safety perimeter, yes,
set up around each of the bottom fires. But I
forget one of them has maybe I can't remember who did.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
So listen, you were impressed.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
So we got to show off because if there's a perimeter,
they might want to have our marshmallow sticks.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Look at that. So we have extenders.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Yeah, so so let's just show off for a minute
because you know they might want these.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
This might this might pass over the or we could
just yeah, just have like mar shammellon games.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Anyway, and open fire.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
That's right, that's right, Well, that sounds good. So and
bug spraye they need to you know, is a buggy?
I mean it is Florida, but.

Speaker 6 (22:46):
Really, you know, because we're in November, it really hasn't
been that.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Bad, okay, And you're walking or at least you're on
the coat, literally on on the beach. So you've got
that beach breeze that probably helps with some of them, the.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
Little hopefully not too much of a briest, right, you know,
the wind, the wain, the fire marshal and all of
India River Fire Rescue are so awesome. They have people
on property with us, the fire marshals.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
Okay, so those that are a little nervous about that, the.

Speaker 6 (23:22):
Fire marshals and one who pulls the trigger as to
whether it's a go or a no go. Okay, and
he really the last couple of years you talk about
the one person who walked around with a sad face
was him, because you know, he was the one that
