Speaking of the famous ornament, we have the creator and
designer of this year's ornament.

Speaker 1 (02:14):

She is a very busy woman. She is owner of
Lift Vera Fitness with her husband, Steve Feaster. She is
a dog mom and my friend. She has been a
member of the Garden Club of Indian River County since
twenty twenty one. When she's not at the gym, you
can find her performing with a Riptide band as horn

(02:35):
player and lead singer. Her most recent addition to her
resume is an ornament creator and designer. She's the creative
mind behind one of Vera's favorite holiday traditions. Now in
her fourth year, she has not given up. Fourth year
designing the beloved Garden Club Christmas ornament, she continues to

(02:58):
bring sparkle our bubbles. Sparkle sparkle bubbles anyway, we just
discovered that was her favorite word. Anyway, She continues to
bring sparkle, our artistry, and hometown charm to our holiday season.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Please welcome my friend and guest, Bonnie Feast. You're awfully swee.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Don't what to expect in all of that. I'm thinking,
what else does in my resume? Tell me?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
What do I do? What else am I doing when
I'm walking at night?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Oh my gosh, So listen body before we unwrap, yes,
all the details about.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
This year's ornament. I have a fun little icebreaker I
want to do with you. Okay, you good for it?
I am, okay.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
So you know I got to do a Shenanigan. So
I'm going to show you four types of ornaments. Cindy,
You're part of this icebreaker, I know. So I'm going
to show you four types of ornaments, and you're gonna
tell me which one you would be if you're an ornament?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Which one you would be if you were.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
An ornament okay, and then I'm going to tell you
what personality you are.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do,
but i'll do it. Okay. So here we go.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
So, uh so, if you were an ornament, you would be.
So I'm gonna show you four ornaments. Okay, so don't
tell me yet. Let me go through the four okay.
So the first one we.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Have is the classic glass ball.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
All right, let me make sure the let's see, let's see,
I'm gonna go this way. There we go, the classic
glass Ball. That's that's number one, all right, there's four choices.
The next one is the glitter glitter glittery Star, which
is kind of uh right here okay, all right, okay.

(04:44):
The next one is handmade or wooden ornament okay, this
little guy, okay. And then the final one is a figurine,
which I had to throw in some baby Jesus because
in my opinion, that's what Christmas.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Is all about.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Okay, So that those are your choices.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
You have the classic glass ball, the glitterally glittery Star,
the handmaid or wove it or wooden ornament or figurine.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Bonnie, you're gonna go first.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Okay, which if you were an ornament, which ornament would
you be?

Speaker 4 (05:24):
I would definitely be the glittery.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
I need all the help I can get, Bonnie, you
are our glitter glittery star.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
I would like to be like Jesus.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Cindy says, she's Jesus siddy. What ornament are you?

Speaker 4 (05:46):
You know what I I have never heard.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
You know?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Let me review.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
No, no, I know what they are. I know what
they are. I would want to be the tree.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
The tree. That's not part of the choice.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Okay, So the four choices? What am I doing?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
You're down to the glass ball, the handmaide or wooden
ornament or the figurine.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I'll do the snowflake whatever that one is.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
That was that was glitterally glittery star, which is Bonnie's.
I'll be the ball. You'll be the classic ball. We
will have Bonnie hold that just for processing.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
I'm classic.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Okay, okay, okay, wait, let me it's my job to
tell ya.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Okay, here we go.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Now. Well, so I'm kind of the glass ball, but
for today's sake, I will say I am the homemaid.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
All right, So Sindy's the homemaid.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Do you want me to hold that one to We're
just going to hang it on the or put them
on the tree.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
We needed somebody else in production, I know.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Right, Gosh, you know, I'm on a limited budget here, Bonnie.
So you are the star, the glittery star. So that
means your personality is vibrant, bold, center of attention. So
you're the You're the glittery star, bright, confident and ready
to shine. You light up every room and bring joy

(07:26):
whenever you wherever you go. You love a little sparkle,
and you believe life's too short not to dazzle.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
That's a pretty.

Speaker 5 (07:33):
Wait wait wait wait wait yeah, except for the center
of attention, I'm not really which just sounds silly because
I'm always I am on.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Stage at.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I totally agree you're the glittery star. I like you,
all right, So, Cindy, we decided you are the question.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I know this is going to be good.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
I am just waiting for this. Can't even talk right now.
You are the classic glass ball.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Your personality is timeless, elegant, and sentimental. You know.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Actually that's right.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Yeah, you're gonna get your own little button. So you're right.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
So you, Cindy, are the classic ball. You're polished, graceful.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
And full of heart. She really is.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
You appreciate tradition and fine beauty in the simple things. Yeah,
you're You're study and dependable, the person everyone can count
on to bring that perfect touch of holiday magic.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That's wonderful. Okay, thanks Bonnie for giving me my boat.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
All right, So I took the little handmade one, the
little ginger red.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
I well know, and now that I know what this is,
I think we share the star.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Let's see what the handmaid one is.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Personality, creative, grounded, heartfelt.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Yeah, I didn't make this up.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Let's see it says you're the handmade wooden ornament. Authentic,
artistic and full of meaning. You love things with a story,
made with care and intention. You bring warmth and heart
to everything you do.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
There's a tissue, right, I want to thank the academy.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Mom.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Okay, let's see if we can pick out who do
you think would be a figurine?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Is your? Is your? I can say Steve is a
figurine because it doesn't have to be Jesus. It could
be an ELpH, it could be but it's a It's
either an animal a figurine. Let's pretend it's Steve.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Right, Okay, Steve, here you are personality. You're playful, your imaginative,
your fun loving, that's him.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Frames So you're.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
The sparkly figurine, whimsical, spirited and full of surprises.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Oh boy, that is right.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, you bring out everyone's inner child, a figuring.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
And remind us that Christmas is meant to be fun.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
Oh my gosh, guys, he's already has a Christmas tree
app and we've already decorated the background, the house.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
You're creative and a little unexpected the life of the tree.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
That's crazy, Steve.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
That was for you since you weren't here is he
is the figurine.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
The one that's been Christmas shopping since September. I love it.
I love it and had the Christmas tree the day
after Halloween.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Oh my gosh, well them, that's wonderful. It's pretty.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
That was fun.

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Actually, yes, Cindy, Yeah, it's like you scripted it. I
didn't know. I know, nobody knew. You did not know?

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Did you really just made it up? As She's like,
oh she got that means the season?

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Well listen, and Bonnie, you are so busy. You're an entrepreneur,
You're an entertainer. What makes you bloom at the Garden
Club makes me bloom?

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Bloom?

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Why did you get involved? Why does it excite you?
Why have you designed this ornament for multiple years in
a row.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
What what's so special about the Garden Clubs?

Speaker 5 (11:30):
Well, you know, I joined the Garden Club because I
do enjoy working in the yard and creating. I have
a I do have a creative mind. I like to write,
I like to do artistic stuff. But I also really
enjoy the time being outside of the house, out from
the computer, and you know, just that quiet time and

(11:52):
just enjoying the simple things. Yeah, and uh and you know,
so I enjoy that time. But when I joined the
Garden Club as a guest of one of Steve's clients,
a matter of fact, I really hadn't even thought about
joining until I went there. And I also realized that
this is an opportunity. So since I'm newer to Viro,

(12:12):
it's not like I was born and raised here or
moved here in two thousand and three, it's an opportunity
for me to to glean on you know, other other
leaders that have come before me that that can teach
me how to do some things that I that I
can take over and help, you know as far. And
also I learned so much about the city and our
county at being a part of the garden Clubs with

(12:34):
our outings and some of the things that we've been
involved with. So I just found it was a good
way for me to connect with a community and in
a way that is fun hobby wise for me.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
And then the ornament.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Thing was just honestly was just a accident. I mean
that was like, you know, there their person that had
done it for all these years retired and some I
don't I think actually the same person invited me the
club said you know, maybe you want to do it.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Because she knew I was artistic and I like.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
A challenge, so I like, yeah, right, and I don't
really do love a challenge.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
I was like, yeah, I'll take a challenge and I'll
try that. And then I enjoyed.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
I realized I hadn't drawn and since I was in
high school, so it was really kind of a fun
outlet for me to to.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Another challenge for me to tackle.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
And so here I am, wow, well, I know you've
definitely really strengthened your green thumb through the Garden Club,
and I've seen pictures, but we are here today to
talk about the ornament and it was a little bit
of a struggle.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
We'll get into that and.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yeah, but for those that don't understand how special this is.
So it's it's thirty fourth year and the very first one.
Do you want to tell them what the very first
ornament was?

Speaker 5 (13:48):
I can remember, I know I was supposed to know
this by yeah, okay, the railroad because.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
I want to say that. I want to say that
they had.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
One that was for auction at some point a year
or so ago. I can't remember, but yeah, they have,
but said some of the early ones were all your
first you know, your big ones that early that are
still around today and stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
So I'm going to.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Mention a few just so people, you know, if you
live in Vera or you're new to Verra, you'll you'll
appreciate some of these icons. The Vera Beach Railroad was
the very first ornament. You got Hummiston Park, you've got
Heritage Center, you've got Jungle Trail, Memorial Island, McKee Botanical Garden,
homean stadium, Go La Dodgers, and then of course you

(14:33):
pick it up, you pick the ornament ball up.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Twenty twenty two of the garden Fest, right.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
It was yes, yes, and then twenty three.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Was the Riverside Theater. Twenty four was the Seminal Indians. Yeah, okay,
so drumol. So we are now up to this year's ornament,
which I freaking don't know how she did it. So
last year was a tribute that you did which was
so beautiful to the Seminal Indians of Indian River County.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
This year you almost gave up. You almost gave us.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Steve almost made me give up.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
So what was the challenge about this year's ornament?

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Okay, I cannot reveal what the theme is. So this
year was an easy choice because you know, every year
the committee gets a variety of different things and we
all decide on, you know, what we feel like is
supposed to be this year's ornament. Well, this year is
our one hundredth anniversary of Indian River County. So it's
like one of those things where you have to do
it right. Yes, And so the idea was is to

(15:39):
encompass the three cities in Indian River County and try
to bring that, bring.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
That to life.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
And so I first started doing the ornament as this
collage of all you know, like things like the the
peer Peer Passion and let if froglet festival. You know,
Vera Beach is known for our golf and you know
those beautiful turtle the turtle tracks, turtle sculptures and just

(16:08):
what there was all these little things that were like,
what is what a special about Vera? But how do
we put this in all one ornament?

Speaker 3 (16:13):
And guys, we're talking about an ornament which is about.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Three and a half inch three do you know an
exact time?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
You know, three inches, you know in diameters? So okay,
keep going.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
So I did an ornament that was not this, you know.
I did a design, a complete design, and.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
I did the best I could and actually it looked okay,
but I liked it.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
I like, I didn't submit the photo, but you did
send me a rendering of the what you first.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Came up with, ye okay.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
And the center was Vera Beach Country Club because they
also celebrate their one hundredth year and golf is such
a big thing. So I used kind of their a
golf course or whatever, but and their their wall to
be able to separate the three quadrants because that was
my big issue is like, how do you separate three
different quadrants of clusters of things?

Speaker 4 (17:02):
Anyway? So I honestly thought, I.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
This is way above my pay grade, and uh not
that I get paidd up, you know, like.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
I was way by my skill level. This was just.

Speaker 5 (17:11):
Supposed to be a hobby and I was failing miserably.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
And Steve was like, you know, he saw the hours
and hours of me drawing and drawing and drawing and drawing,
and then and then when we're like, I have to
start over.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Basically, I suddenly at the like I think it was
in the middle of the night, I woke up with
one hundred in my head.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
It's gorgeous, and I'm like, one hundred three things three
I can, then I can.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
I just I felt such a new freshening of just
a creation.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
And then this has happened, so so there.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
So for the ones that are actually listening to radio
and can't see you holding the ornament, she literally says,
Indian River County, it's brass, which gold brass is a
signature of the of one hundred year anniversary, and so
you've got uh, Indian River County on the top, and
then it's.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
A century in paradise, and I.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Always call this paradise. And then you've got literally one
zero zero.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
You've got one hundred as the ornament, and then each
each number is a city.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Tell us about that.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yeah. So the so in the one we have Hibiscus flower.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Which is our flower, so Citia Vierra.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Yeah, and we have the air show, the Blue Angels
flying over because we're known for our air show. We're
so lucky to have them come. We have a golf,
a little golf green and flag and sand and just
like some some beechy type stuff like a palm tree.
And we've got the turtle sculptures, which we're just you know,
they have to go in there.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
So that's the zero.

Speaker 5 (18:37):
And on the back of the ornament it has the
cities in case somebody doesn't know too, so they know
the middle.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Zero is Sebastian.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
It has the Sebastian Endlet Pier, and it has the
big wave because there's people, you know, when I was
in I was from Tallahassee and I and I dated
some surfers and they would go in the summer to
Sebastian to surf wow. And it's glow known for some
of the some surfing, so we had to have that.
And then we have the Sebastian Skydiving Final Zero Frog

(19:07):
Leg Festival.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
We have the Fellsmere water Tower. We have the ferris
wheel that we all know, the frog like vest Rodeo.

Speaker 5 (19:13):
Yeah, and then we had put the cowboy hat and
the vest on the frog so it would represent Rodeo
because my my bucking cow was too.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
You couldn't tell what it was.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
It was so small, so hard to put all that
together in one So anyway, I really am actually excited
how it turned out.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
It's a miracle. Yeah, it truly is America.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
We need to go to a station break you guys,
you have to get this year's it's absolutely amazing, absolutely gorgeous.

the creator, the designer, stayed with us.

(22:46):
got the Environmental Learning Center, the Heritage Center, Key McKee
lee Jewelers, so many where what is the address of
the website where they can find all the retailers.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
It's Garden Club of irc dot org.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Okay, I want to be clear. How much does the
ornament and what does the money go towards.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
It's twenty five dollars it is it goes to support
the Garden Club. It's the second largest fundraiser for the
Garden Club, and the first being garden Fest, which is
coming up at a couple of months. So we have
everything that that comes from that is going to go
right back into our community to beautify and educate our community.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Wonderful, wonderful.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
I have a personal question for you.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Yeah, as a designer, you're kind of like mama to
these ornaments that you've created, these last four. Which is
your favorite?

Speaker 5 (23:41):
I have to say Riverside Theater is my close second, probably,
I really I love how and plus our band plays
there so it's kind of fun.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
But I really love this ornament. I don't know if
it's the hard work or what, but it's brilliant.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
It truly is.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
With the one zero zero and having each city, Sebastian,
Via Beach and Fellsmerr All collaborated on this little ornament
is absolutely amazing.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Cindy, she did such a good job, didn't she.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
And if anybody is new to ornaments like me, I'm
still learning the ornaments. I encourage them to reach out
to the Garden Club because we have back ornaments from
other years if they want to, if they want to
build their collection, we really could use the support in
getting some of those ornaments out. So don't feel like
they have to get it only now.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Okay, I love that, all right, you guys, So one
more time, if they want to find information on where
to buy these, they go.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
To Garden Club of i RC dot org. All right
for having your Chris Christmas to you all right, See
you next time. Love you guys,

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
