Speaker 1 (00:02):
EGM Network.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
From Studio A in Sunny Florida. Welcome to Beauty and
the Beach Radio, where it's all about who's beautifying Vero Beach.
Today's show is brought to you by Dale Sawrenson real Estate,
and here's your host and Glamour Girl makeup artist Cindy Gets.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hey, guys, welcome back to Beauty in the Beach Radio.
I know I probably sound weird if you're not looking
at your screen and you're.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Hearing me on the radio. I have a mask on,
I do. Why does Cindy have a mask on?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Well, today's show, we are talking about hidden faces. Okay,
have you, guys, ever felt hidden? Have you ever walked
into a room and nobody noticed you, nobody looked you
in the eyes.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
You felt like you were invisible?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Okay, so my guess they are there behind a mask
as well. I'm going to introduce that they are hidden faces.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
I will properly introduce them in a moment, but I
think Cindy's gonna actually show you their faces. But guys,
have you ever felt that way?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Have you ever been like nobody notices me, Nobody you know,
thinks I'm important, nobody's.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Looking me in the eyes.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
You feel like you have a mask on, an invisible mask. Okay,
So today we're going to talk. The topic is hidden Faces.
And there's there are my guests right there. They are
hiding behind masks. They are hiding their faces. They are
hidden faces.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
But what is this all about, you guys? This is
about one of my favorite events that happens in Indian
River County.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
It is the third annual and guys, it is so powerful,
it is so powerful, and I'm going to introduce my
guests so they can help you understand what this Hidden
Faces represents. Okay, not just Cindy in a silly mask
or my guests in a mask. But why are they hidden? Okay,
So we're going to talk about that. And I am
(02:16):
actually going to take my mask off so you can
actually see me now. But we're talking about the Source Ministries.
And if you guys don't know anything about the Source,
they are amazing. They actually began in nineteen ninety five,
originally serving the needy by offering free meals you guys,
(02:37):
and Bible study from a are you ready six hundred
square foot storefront?
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Now the Source has grown into over five thousand square feet.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
This is an outreach facility.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Open seven days a week, you guys, addressing the complex
needs of the poor and homeless right here in Indian
River County. The Source offer rates a diversity of programs
and services to assist the homeless in the community to
better their lives and help them out of homelessness into
a life of dignity. My guests, they are hidden right now,
(03:13):
but not for much longer. I want to introduce them
to you. They are Marty and Bev Paris. They are
a husband and wife team behind Paris Productions, a dynamic
pr agency to.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Gather you guys.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
They have helped bring the Music Works concert series to
life in our community for thirteen years. Love going to
those concerts, and one of their most meaningful, meaningful projects
has been promoting the Source, a vital ministry serving the
homeless in Indian River County. Please welcome back to Beauty
(03:48):
in the Beach Radio Marty and Bev Paris. Okay, you
will get to take your masks off very soon, but before.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
You do, I want you to give the audio.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
It's the inspiration behind Hidden Faces because there's a lot
of people that have never been What is the idea
of Hidden Faces well, first of.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
All, I would like to see if you have any
fava beans with God Kante. I feel I Cannibal elector, but.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
Hidden Faces has several meanings. Some of it is about
the homeless people and how as you mentioned people, when
they see them in the streets, they will not look
them in the eye and they almost try to avoid them.
And I used to do that myself, so I am
was not immune to that. After working with a Source
for the past five years, I am just so honored
(04:45):
to be part of the organization. I'm friends with all
these people who are haven't been homeless and are trying
to get their life back together. So those are the
hidden faces that you're talking about. But in addition, it's
to honor the hidden faces behind the scenes of the Source,
the people who work there, who do all the programs
and services. They're an amazing group of people. And uh,
(05:09):
it's it's a double meaning. So we're talking about those
hidden faces also and trying to bring them out and
give them the respect that they deserve.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
You know.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Bev Tony Zorah is the executive director and I believe
this was his you know, baby two almost three years ago. Now,
what is your take on the Hidden Faces, on this
idea of people being able to meet these homeless, these
members being able to meet them face to face.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
So there is a face, there's a name. Tell me
about that. What is that the thing mean to you?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Right now?
Speaker 6 (05:45):
You're one hundred percent right. The face and the name
of really important. In addition to that, it's the life
that they're coming out of and what they're moving into.
And the success stories have been a mess, and the
Hidden Faces event educates the community about what is going
(06:06):
on behind the scenes. And when I tell you there's
barely a dry eye and you're one of them, two eyes,
two eyes that are filled with tears when you walk
out the door. The stories are amazing. And when Marty
said about you don't want to look one of them
in the eye. Yesterday we were at a meeting at
(06:26):
the Sauce and one of the members came in and
he walks over and he gives me a big hug.
And you know, it's wonderful that the respect goes back
and forth, and that's what they're feeling. They're getting respect
and they're giving it. Yeah, all right, it's amazing.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Let's have you take off your mask.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
You can.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Tell you I couldn't breathe.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
And probably the way some of these you know, homeless
people feel is all of a sudden, you know, they
can take that mask of of you know, being ignored,
and all of a sudden people see them for them
and not this homelessness facade.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
There's no question.
Speaker 6 (07:10):
And these members, as they're called, they are out in
the world working there, have roofs over their heads, they
have families. The sky that gave me a big hug.
He's reunited with his family, has a new baby on the.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Way, you know.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
So what you're seeing are people that have totally changed
their and they're committed to it. These are not people
that are panhandling. They want to be helped and they're
working towards it and many many have achieved. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
One of the big words that they use is transformation.
They're trying to transform these people from what they have
been to a life of dignity.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Absolutely, And I know dignity is also a big word,
which we'll get into in a minute.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
So okay, so since and I we have not missed
a Hidden Faces event. Absolutely love it.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
The first time I wasn't sure what to expect, So
I want the audience to know what to expect. So
we're going to go through it line by line, and Marty,
so the first thing, behind the scenes, are we going
to be able to look at what the Source does
behind the scenes? Is there going to be a little
bit of a take of that on the event?
Speaker 6 (08:21):
Well, not physically, we're going to be at the Riches
Center this year. We've grown and we're almost all sold
out for the Richesness Center, so people who are listening
should get their ticket spot before Monday. But so not physically,
but you'll see it in videos. You'll see the members,
you'll see you'll hear the stories, which are incredible. Marty's
(08:45):
got the agenda, but we've got guest speakers who are
able to give testimonials on their affiliation with the Source
and the members of the Source, and they'll be speaking
in their words, which is really important to hear that.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
So I want to make sure people understand because I
know I've got the lingo because of you guys and
Tony and Jonathan. But the homeless people that sign up
with a Source program are called members.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
So when we say members, that is their correct.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
It's a terminology.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Terminology used for the homeless that use their program.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
So what to me is so important is they get
and you just said it, they get to meet the members.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
To me, it's so absolutely amazing. Marty, tell us about that,
because I know there's pictures all over.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Tell us about just that portion of the evening for
Hidden Faces to have the members that get to dress up.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Tell us about that.
Speaker 5 (09:45):
Well, we try to get them to interact with the guests,
and some of them are a little shy because they
have not been interacting for several years, maybe because.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
They've been on the side of their comfort zone, the sources,
their comfort zone.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
So now you've got people in the community coming, so
I can see where that would be a little nerve wracking.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
Yeah, but they they do interact and and they they
love to be with people and they love to talk.
I mean, they have been sheltered or unsheltered actually for
for several years, and now they are being transformed, and
the programs and services at the Source to give them
this life of dignity are just incredible. I mean, they
(10:25):
have karaoke. When I walk in there, and these these people,
they as soon as you walk in there, there are
tables where they have lunch, breakfast, lunch, and dinner and
they sit at tables. Somebody comes over gives them a menu,
they order off of a menu restaurants styles. So they're
treated as as uh, you know, regular people that and
(10:48):
they haven't been treated like that in a long time.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
I'd like to give you an example. We just had
a photo shoot with a group of members who will
be there hidden faces, and one of the fellows I
hadn't seen in a really long time, but we knew
him from the day he started as a member. And
I'm looking at this guy and I'm feeling, what's so
(11:11):
different about him? Well, he had a brand new set
of teeth because the dignity smiles wonderful. He got a
full time job. He's working at a restaurant in Sebastian.
He is living with a roof over his head. He
just got his license and got a brand new car.
And I'm looking at him and I'm saying to one
(11:32):
of the other people there, I'm like, he's really cute.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
He is outfit everything and it.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Was amazing Brandy food truck for a while, because I
remember he went.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
To Caria, I got a job.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Some of the success stories are incredible. They really are.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
And that so speaking of success stories, and I thank
you for mentioning that bad and every time I go
and rehann I with a source, I always love to
see the members and see where they're at and the
progress and there's always progress.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
And so the video there's usually a video.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Are we going to be able to see a video while,
you know, trailing some of the members and their success
story on it?
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Because that I love that part.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
Yes, it's usually the close of the event where they show,
as you said, the the journey that some of these
people have been on. They pick three or four people
each year and then they showcase them at the end.
They come out and they they are introduced to the
crowd and it's just a very.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Tearful, moving, very moving absolutely, so the testimonials you just
added will be part of that.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Definitely good good And another thing mingling is that the
culinary program, which trains the members to be self sufficient
and get a job and then to mingle with people
they are helping to cook and through the catering company
that evening we'll be serving and so there they will
come up to you.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Would you like this?
Speaker 6 (13:07):
So what is it? Andy?
Speaker 4 (13:09):
You'll have that conversation and you beat me to it, Bev.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I know, Cindy and I absolutely love love the food
anytime that the source provides, they do a fantastic job,
so abundant, so delicious, so creative, so colorful, and like
you said, there, so you've got two parts going on here.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
You've got the people, the members that are actually.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Making the food in the colony of program, and then
you've got the servers that are learning the hospitality.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (13:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
Oh, there's a whole hospitality section of the Dignity Programs
now which is new, and so the interfacing is such
an important part of the growth of the members. So
it goes on and on.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
I love it.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
Yeah, we do too.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
And I know last year there as a cash bar
for those that are coming to Is that going to
be the same for this year?
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Same?
Speaker 4 (14:04):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (14:04):
And it's a twenty dollar ticket okay. And the food
is all included, wonderful and it's going to be some
network in the beginning, but most of it is programmed, okay.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
And I particularly like the prizes and the parting gift.
Is that still going to happen this year?
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Yeah? We do have a few little surprises on that
which is very exciting. Okay, by the way, okay, yep,
Marty will introduce it that night.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
But it went about parting gift. We left gift.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
That will be the parting gift.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I'm going to make it a surprise.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Just about Okay, you're going to spend twenty dollars to
show up and which is worth it?
Speaker 6 (14:39):
One dent, No, it's definitely worth it. It's a very
important evening I think.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
For the community. Wonderful. Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, if I can, I want to, let's mention the
time again of the all the details of the hidden
faces please.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Okay, it's five thirty to eight pm. It's Thursday evening,
October sixteenth, next month, at the Richardson Center at Indian
River State College. And uh, it's just going to be
a great event. So we really hope that you will
be there and meet some of our members and some
of us staff.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
And pretty good chances it's going to sell out, you guys,
if you want a ticket, I think it's five six
four zero two zero two extension two one nine.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Jonathan, Is that right?
Speaker 5 (15:23):
That's correct?
Speaker 6 (15:23):
Okay, Yes, that's fine. That's probably better to call Jonathan
directly because he's got a good handle on those chickouts.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Okay, all right, great, and I see there was a
QR code, so if they go onto the website they
could also find that as well.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
Absolutely, which is I am the Source dot org.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
Okay, so guys, I want one thing that I love, love.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
That the Source is doing, and it's huge in the
news right now and it's so amazing what they're doing
is the Dignity Bus. And I can't I'm almost speechless
about it because it's just an absolutely amazing project that
the Source has wrapped their arms around.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Do you guys want to share about it? I think
we're up to seven buses.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
S buses in their fleet.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Yeah, that's insane.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
So Marty, how about share how this kind of blossomed
and then where we are and where we're going with
the Dignity Bus.
Speaker 5 (16:15):
Well, they started with one bus. This was Tony Zoba's
dream idea to get people that are homeless off of
the street at night, because his concept is that if
people do not get a good night's sleep, they really
cannot do anything. And it's just one of the most
important things. And if you're obviously unsheltered, it's very difficult
(16:36):
to get a safe sleep at night. So he came
up with this idea to take a bus, take everything
out and put in twenty or twenty two or eighteen
sleeping pods they call them, and they are fantastic. They
have a place for your cell phones, they have a
place for your luggage, they have place for your pets, bomblow,
(16:59):
some of them have washers and dryers on them, and
they have been just going across the country. He's got
one now in Chicago, one in Rhode Island. Just a
couple of weeks ago, we brought two to Orlando, and
Orlando was just so excited. They're actually going to be
at the program next month. Is the executive director of
(17:24):
the Christian Service Center in Orlando, and also a couple
of people from that organization are going to come and
talk about their experience getting the Dignity Bus in Orlando.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
So let's just really quickly before we go to break,
make people understand there's so many wins here. Okay, So
the homeless people have a place to sleep safely. It's
either a seed or heated depending on the climate, so
climate controlled.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
So the homeless wins there.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
The source is winning because they're producing income for the
Source to be able to make more buses, and they
are actually making them for other states so that.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
They can also help their homeless population. When when win
win whin.
Speaker 6 (18:13):
Yeah, they've got an unbeatable blueprint. It truly is.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
And the one in the ones in Vero Beach, the
three that are in Vero Beach and in the morning
after they've been sleeping safely and securely all night long,
they have breakfast and they can get a shower at
the Source.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
And it's three dollars, So it's making it responsible and
they're failing secure and they get a good night's sleep,
and I love it. It's incredible.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
You guys have to go to a station break.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
I want to make sure, Marty, will you give them
one more time if they want to go to Hidden
Faces this wonderful event October sixteen.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Details, Yeah, that's that's that's the details.
Speaker 5 (18:49):

the Richardson Center. Tickets are very very scarce at this point,
it's almost sold out, and just come and get a

(22:13):
sell out, so get your ticket. Marty Bev, I know
you're so passionate you help run the show if you
will with all the events that the Source does.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
What do you want to say? What do you want
people to kind of lead with with the source ministries?
Speaker 6 (22:29):
Well, Tony has his vision and that is to eradicate
homeless and no severo beach and one by one, day
by day, he's getting pretty darn close. The latest numbers
that come from the Treasure Coast are just under two
hundred homeless in a June River County, but that kind
of changes all the time, sure, but I just want
(22:49):
to give you a few figures that currently there are
one hundred and ten homeless people that are no longer homeless.
Out of that just under two hundred, one hundred and
ten and that includes the boss that sleeps fifty five
and various off site locations that sleep forty forty five.
(23:13):
They just started partnering with the Homeless Children's Foundation on
a multiplex house that sleeps fifteen thirteen thirteen. It's their
first venue that they are doing other than men and
women their families. They project in the next two to
three years that they will be just at two hundred
(23:37):
and therefore eradicating homelessness and Indiana River.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Oh my gosh, I love that. Alaza for sure.
Speaker 6 (23:46):
Yeah, talk about having a dream come true. It's so close,
it's within reach.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Well, MARNI final thoughts just we.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Are so honored to be a part of this organization
and they are just doing in a amazing job to
solve this problem. I mean, it's a problem that nobody
thought could ever be solved in our little corner of
the world here. I think it is going to be
here reality in a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
You know, Tony reminds me of the starfish story.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
We all know it, right where the little kid goes,
why are you throwing the starfish back in the ocean?
Speaker 4 (24:19):
And then the or the person's like, well, I got
to save it, you know. I saved this one so
one at a time, and I think that's how he fits,
one at a time.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
So, Tony, congrats to you on all that you're doing
for us in vere Beach, in the Source and Bev
and Marty, thank you so.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Much for great here as always.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yes, all right, you guys, we'll see you hidden faces
October sixteen. Get your ticket and we will see you there.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Have a great day.
