From Studio A in Sunny Florida. Welcome to Beauty and
the Beach Radio, where it's all about Who's beautifying Vero Beach.
Today's show is brought to you by Dale Sawrenson real Estate.
And here's your host and Glamour Girl makeup artist Cindy
gets Well.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hello, everybody, Welcome back to bed in the Beach Radio,
where's all about his beautifying Vera Beach and you guys.
Today is going to be a sweet show. That's right,
It is going to be so sweet. Literally, I'm so excited,
you guys. One of my favorite holiday traditions with my
family growing up was baking cookies in the kitchen for

(00:50):
the neighbors for family. Oh my gosh, I can still
see the flower everywhere on my apron, in my hair,
you know, all over the calendar. That was the worst part,
having to clean up, Cindy, Yeah right, I don't like.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
My mom did do a lot of the cleaning up.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
She let me do the fun part and then she
she would, you know, clean up the baking bowls and
then yes she would, you know, but she didn't want to,
you know, she was very you know, controlling of her kitchen,
so she liked being able to do it her own way.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
But yeah, we had the little cookie cutters.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
That was.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
We had Santa, we had the Star.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
It was always a bell, a bell, yes, and it
was it was the It was like aluminum aluminum.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
I mean, they were not plastic anymore. Now it's plastic right.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
For the Yeah, it was like the real deal.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
In my day.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
They were probably I don't know whatever.

Speaker 6 (01:47):
Stone stone, well anyway, and you know, we would make
them and we would you know, take them to neighbors.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Oh my gosh, I missed those days. So I guess
we need to do that. And we used to carol. Yes, yeah,
well we're doing that this season too.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
By the way, I stay tuned, there's going to be
caroling on Beating the Beach Radio. Because I love bringing
all my favorite holiday traditions.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
So today that's one of them. It's cookie baking.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
We'd have Christmas music on, we'd have the Christmas lights going,
and so I thought it'd be really fun to bring
one of my favorite holiday memories and traditions to you
to the audience. And I have two bakers on the
show today that have volunteered to be here to bring
their favorite treats.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
I cannot wait.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
It's it's always a surprise, so I didn't know what
they were bringing. We're going to taste it right here
on the show. And then we have Kim who is
one of the owners of the studio.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
She is the judge today.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
She will be coming in and she will be presenting
awards to the bakers.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
So we're going to get right down to it.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
These team bakers in the studio today, they're ready to
share their favorite homemade Christmas treats from Bold Flavors to
create a spins on holiday classics. We're tasting the sweetest
creations this season from them. Let's meet those bakers. The
first one, she is sixteen sixteen years old. She's a
baking enthusiast who loves creating treats that bring joy to others.

(03:21):
She's inspired by the smiles and reactions of family and
friends who try her desserts, and their support has helped
shape her passion for baking.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Please welcome, kayleb bare Hi, Hi, welcome.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I am so excited to try your treats. I cannot wait.
So we'll get to that in just a minute. Let's
introduce the next baker, Okay, so the next baker he is.
He usually spends his time gaming, but he loves experimenting
in the kitchen.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
He is thirteen. He's a self taught cook. I even
heard that he makes like burgers and.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Like steaks, So maybe next time we'll have him on
a for a burger show. He never never uses boxed mixed,
uh mixed.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Boxed, mixed box mixes.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Box boxed mixes like Betty Crocker, and enjoys creating everything
from scratch.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Lucas is also an animal lover.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
And dreams of attending m I T one day Wosa
Wosa which if you know, I know you guys know
this Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is a key school
in helping America science and innovation lead the world. Guys,
please welcome our second baker, Lucas McIntyre.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Look at these guys, they're so legit. Cindy the real deal, right,
the real deal. I know at that age I couldn't
even depend on bacon.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
So let's get started. I'm gonna start with you, Kaylin.
First of all, tell us about your love for baking,
Like when did this star? Was it when you were
two years old? Was it last year?

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Was it last month? Was it yesterday? Tell us about
your love for baking.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
It was more during COVID when I was stuck in
the house and kind of do anything. And one time
my mom was like in the hospital for situations, and
I just felt like I just wanted to do something
for her, and I just went around my house during
COVID and baked her like cookies for her, and when
she came home, I gave her there. Oh I love that.

(05:27):
Since then it just progressed.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
And it truly gets so sweet. And it really does.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Like I was saying at holidays, when we give you know,
the cookies to neighbors, that reaction, right, just like your
mom probably like, oh that's so sweet.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Right? It makes you feel good.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Doesn't it. Oh?

Speaker 4 (05:42):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Kaitlin Lucas, where when did this love for cooking get started?
And obviously it's not just baking, it's cooking as well,
But when did this get started for you?

Speaker 7 (05:55):
So mine mine's not as sweet as kiln, But I
maybe say a year and a half ago. So the
summer before, like seventh grade, I there was nothing to do.
We didn't go to we usually go to New York
for the summers, and we didn't go that that summer.
So I was sore just around the house trying to,

(06:17):
you know, to find things to do with myself. And
I saw some I saw video and it was this
coffee cake recipe and I went into the kitchen. We
had almost everything, we didn't have card the mom but
and I saw of just made it, and I realized

(06:37):
that I really liked it. I like the freedom of
it and the you know, the ability to experiment with
it and make my own things. So and then I
branched out into you know, I do steaks and all that,
and now I'm here.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
So now do you cook the dinners every night for
the family.

Speaker 7 (06:59):
My my cooking tends to be a bit what's the
word more. It takes a lot more time when I
do things.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
So okay, so it's a special event. Yeah, I gotcha.

Speaker 7 (07:09):
I cook every once in a while, but it still
is majoining my parents.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Well that is exciting. So let's get started, kaylin. Let's
start with yours. So each of you are asked to
bring two of your favorite treats.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
So I'm gonna have you start.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
We're gonna taste and then we're gonna have our second baker,
So kaylin, start with your first cookie if you like.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
It's a sugar cookie with vanilla frosting on it with
like Christmas tree if you.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Want to hold it up.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
So those that are watching and just hold the first
cookie in your hand that way they can see it
a little bit, and then we'll do the next one.
There you go, okay, perfect. So for those that are
listening on the radio, it's this. It's it's a very
traditional sugar cookie, but it is jacked up. There's a
lot of fun stuff on it. So talk to us
about this cookie.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
It's like it's a sugar cookie with sprinkles inside of
it and then white frosting, white chocolate chips, just everything
I could find in my kinchen.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yes, lots of pretty colorful sprinkles on top, right, and
I think you've got icing drizzled. And it's also it
looks like it's you know, put on by a knife.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
As well, like you've got two layers of that. Is
that right?

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Wow, Cindy, we could run like to Miami and back
with that cookie.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
I know.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
But you know what it looks like a palette knife?
An artist did it?

Speaker 8 (08:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (08:35):
Doesn't it. Yeah, yeah it does. Yeah totally.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
So okay, So that that's your sugar cookie. Love love love,
So wait, I gotta taste it, Cindy, can you you
want to just like a little bite here? No, nope, Okay,
here we go.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
Uh huh m hmm.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Wall oh my gosh, So Kylin, I am the girl.
That one's the most frosting all my cupcakeers possible. This
is absolutely divine with all this yumminess like frosting on top.

Speaker 8 (09:04):
Love.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Hold can you hold it up Cindy in your camera?

Speaker 5 (09:09):
Mm hmm, just a closer shot.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
M h oh wow, okay love.

Speaker 5 (09:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
As a matter of fact, I'm going in for another
BikeE yep, I'm gonna be speed talking about the end
of the show.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Oh okay, So, Kaylin, got your got your first cookie,
sugar cookie? What's the next one you bought?

Speaker 5 (09:32):
The next one is a brownie chocolate with white chocolate
chips inside of it too. It's like a melted snowman
on top decoration with marshmallows and pretzels as arms buttons.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
So this is freaking adorable. Little little snowman here, kind
of melted snowman. All right, there we go if you're
watching the camera and you can see my little snowman
on a brownie. So talk to us about I think
was this the one that you kind of created out
of tell us about it.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
I was on call with my friend who was baking
at the time, and she was baking for like a
week prior, and we both just like, I'm like, I'll
just join you because I was like we're on coughs,
like I got nothing better to do, and I was like,
I don't have anything in my house to like bake,
no eggs, no nothing at the time, but like I
had the basics, and I looked up on TikTok like

(10:22):
edible cookie dough, and that's what I was gonna make.
I'm like, I want to do the full process if
I'm doing it. So I was just going through my
cabinets and I found like an old box of not old,
but it was like half done. I don't know how,
but we grabbed. I grabbed it and I was like
what if I just had this what And I just

(10:45):
added it And at the time they were little. I
only made like ten because that much I had. But
I took a little chocolate piece and I put it
in there and like ever since then, it was like
I brought it to school. Everybody loved it. It was
just a conceant brown and cookie guys.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
I love the attention to detail too, because if you
really look closely at the snowman, he's got the buttons.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
I'm not is that is that part of the batter
or is that like some chocolate icing? How did he
get the buttons chocolate icing? Chocolate icing?

Speaker 3 (11:12):
He's got pretzels for arms, He's got a carrot on there.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
I'm not sure. How did you do the orange cart
for the nose icing with like a little toothpick cheese?
And did the toothpick also do the mouth?

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (11:25):
With the chocolate icing?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
And then he's got chocolate eyeballs, right, and then he's
even got a little garnish on the top of his
hat which is green, green and red?

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Is that icing?

Speaker 5 (11:35):
Also? That's actually sprinkles?

Speaker 4 (11:37):
Is this sprinkles? Oh my gosh, that.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Is that is pretty pretty detailed, pretty amazing and so
delicious too.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
So thank you all, Sorry Snowman, sorry Frosty.

Speaker 6 (11:50):
Okay, all right, Lucas, thank you, Kayalen lucash all right,
so tell me are these family rich traditions on the
plate like talk to me.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
So this first one is halva. It is my grandmother Joseph.
She is Greek, and it is.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
I've never seen or heard this of you, Cindy, h A,
it's h A l v A.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Okay, it's like it's like all the way and then
va okay, got it, and then.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
You show it.

Speaker 7 (12:27):
The majority of the process is just in making the
dell and then it is you shave. You shave it
with the spoon, you press it and you can you
can I use two spoons, making too a little ball
oval shape.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
And what ingredients are in it?

Speaker 5 (12:46):
And is its secret? No?

Speaker 7 (12:48):
So it's so technically. The recipe calls for a cup
of water, a cup of milk, and then.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
You do a cup of it's all a cup.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
I I I realized, I love that a cup of.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
Yeah, I can do that. So yeah, you could do that.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
And then you take farina and you use the powther
and you once you have your your water and sorry,
your water and milk mixture're boiling, you pour the furina
into it and you stir it around and you add
the sugar and you end up and after you like

(13:27):
cook enough, it'll thicken up into the paste mm, which
you then press with a spoon and then you uh, sorry,
what's the word you cover it in cinnamon?

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Yeah, dude, I could totally have these at coffee in
the morning. And it's it's hard to tell you guys,
but it's super moist. It's very moist. It's not like
a biscattie. It's it's just a really moist doughey. It's
not even doughe, but it's it's that kind of going.
It's very hard to describe. Actually, Yeah, and I love

(14:00):
the cinnamon. I can really taste the centnament.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
So what I tend to do when I do make this,
which is pretty often just considering how simple it is. Yeah,
instead of doing a cup of water, you do three
fourth cup of water and you fill the rest of
that cup with vanilla.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Oh snap, I.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
Know it core. The cup of vanilla's a lot, but
there's so many we didn't bring all of it. I'd
say it's probably fifty fifty of the little balls that
you get out of this recipe.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yeah, that's really cool. Never had that before. I really
I really liked that, Lucas, thank you so much. Okay,
and what's the next one.

Speaker 7 (14:38):
So the other the other one is apple. It's apple
cake for lack of a better words, and it is.
So the story behind this one is I got I
got nominated to go to Washington, d C. For an
academic thing. I want to say, like maybe December of
last year, and it was set for like this July.

(14:59):
So in order to raise money for it, I did
a bake sale and we signed on Apple Cakes. And
so I look up some recipes for it. We you know,
we combine them together, just find the tone works best.
And then once we have the recipe, I asked my
mom to give me a cup of flour. Oh, and

(15:19):
we do. We make the recipe and afterwards I take
a bite and it tastes just you know, amazing as
you have it. And then we go to make the
second battery, the second serving a batter, and we realize
that she used bread flour instead of the all purpose
flour that we're supposed to use. And I think it

(15:40):
gives it a much cake ear texture, a much It's
less not less moist, but it's less apple like it
it holds its structure Betther, sorry, Yeah, And so we
decided that we like it weather with the bread flour.
Then we do it the all purpose flour and yeah,

(16:02):
it's so good.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Oh my gosh, it's very comforting.

Speaker 7 (16:06):
Yeah, yeah, it is very comfort food. We usually we
usually make it in like a pie shape, but it almost.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Looks like a thing of corn bread. But it's it's
apple deliciousness.

Speaker 7 (16:16):
And then there's there's apple chunks in there. We're like
half corn apple chunks.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
You can see them. Which amazing.

Speaker 6 (16:21):
That's a good breakfast food, right, I'm all of those
could be breakfast.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
Yeah, wow, that is amazing, Lucas, thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
You guys.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
Mmm, when your family wants you to make something, I'm
gonna go back to Kile and what do they like
you to make for them.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
I've tried a bunch of things, mostly cupcakes, yes, but
I tried the nutella. I've done this nutella like the
you know, the fruit dip people have, but I mix
it in with nutella. It's like the fluff and cream
cheese and and I did that as a topping and
I brought it to a party and they loved it.

(17:05):
And that's like the one thing they loved to make.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Okay, So if you're back, I would dig that I'm
just saying, I love Newtella. Okay, what about you, Lucas,
is there something that your family.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Goes, Oh, would you please make it? And maybe it's
one of these.

Speaker 7 (17:19):
So my my biggest hit, at least I've seen some
of my family is it's not there. It's French onion steak.
So if you've ever had French onion soup, it's the
same idea with saute onions and the balsamic vinegar and
all of that. But then once you have the saut onions,

(17:41):
you cook the steak and the onions when you have
and so it cooks into the steak and you have
a very like, very rich oniony steak.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (17:53):
And that's that's mostly my mother and I also do
garlic steak bowls, which are pretty big hit for my
extended family, my aunt in particular.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
All Right, we are so going we're gonna have them
make us some dinner. Lucas is going to be doing
the steak and Kaylin's going to be doing the cupcakes.
We're going to be so happy.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
I am impressed.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
We need to go to the station break, but I
am impressed both of you have figured out how to
make money at this craft, and I think that is
brilliant and I can see why they taste amazing. We're
gonna have to go to a station break. When we
come back, the judge is gonna come back and reveal
the awards.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
So stay with us, guys. We'll be right back.

real fast.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
I did a sugar cookie with icing all over it
and a bunch of sprinkles and just stuff. Wather, don't
do it? And then a brownie chocolate cookie with a
melted snowman okay, with a bunch of others all.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Right, and lucas you brought.

Speaker 7 (22:27):
I did Helva, which is a it's a cinnamon covered
pat sorry, oh wow. And then I have my apple cake,
which is has a little apple chunks in it and
is covered in cinnamon, and yeah, it does actually resemble
corn breath.

Speaker 4 (22:47):
Yes, all right, So our judge, Kim, how did you do?
How did they do? Great?

Speaker 8 (22:51):
I want I had a few notes if I can't. Yes, Kaylin,
I loved the brownie cookie, how it has the mellow
and the pretzel. I put it all in my mouth
for one bite and got it all in there. And
I loved your story about how you just found the
mix and didn't have cake mix, so it was really creative.

(23:12):
I loved it, Lucas. I loved your story. This is
a family recipe. The flavors were great. I could taste
of cinnamon. My favorite was the chunk of apples.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
That was awesome.

Speaker 8 (23:24):
So I have a couple awards. I have three awards
to give out three Okay, for the best flavor, I

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
